This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An interesting concept. But totally awful realization. All your actions are taxed on several levels. And since playerbase is declining trade even in trade hubs is very slow/quite horrible. And trade is the only way you can earn some buck here w/o investiing thousands of dollars. Outright bad chat/trade systems plus casino system instead of loot. World is dynamic means they change whats good and bad every so often. Most of game information is outdated/ and or deceptive. Despite that game is addictive, but not on good side of it. Really, there are way better games out there that will provide more fun for less money Expand

Unfortunately they would not allow me to login. I downloaded the entire game and it said my account was locked. Support said I was masking my identity. No other online games have given me issues on logging in.

Difficult to maneuver in (movement keys/options), not similar to other games. Lost interest even before I got to the point where they started asking for money. Graphics and character creation are good! Sorry, make it a little simpler. I'm a gamer and got buried in the complicated interface.

EU is not for everyone, and the learning curve can be steep at times and harsh; but if you stick at it can be extremely rewarding and the community in the main are a great bunch.

Gambling site, plain and simple - every PED you spend has a tiny chance to 'hit the jackpot' (global, HoF). With the exception of the auction which is conducting business with other players, the other activities, hunting, mining and crafting - virtual slots, nothing more. US Atty General needs to ban it.

EU is slow to get into, and making an economy without deposit is not done in a day. Some people don't care and spends loads, others - often trader types - spends years rather than cash, and they aim for a profit. There are people living off Entropia. Typically, most will either leave after a week or 3, or go on for a very long time. Get a good mentor, see reviews on the forums. Typically, most will either leave after a week or 3, or go on for a very long time. Get a good mentor, see reviews on the forums. New starter missions will let you do some hunting etc without any depo, let you get a feel for things.

All items can be designated shortcut keys easily, btw. As can all movement, emotes etc.

EU is loved and hated, me I'm kinda well content over time. I feel that Entropia has something special about it - I keep returning while getting bored with other virtuals.

One thing: If you aim to make a profit, trade. it's the safest way. To break even as a hunter you need to keep an eye of the Mark Up (trade) value of loot, not it's Trade Terminal (system) value. It's the difference between a 10% average loss and possibly a profit, over time. Don't depend on hitting one of those 5000-10000 USD loots. Remember when you look at the Hall of Fame lists that there are many hunters/miners/crafters - uber loots are not as common as they may seem.

Also, the skills you accumulate can be sold to other players. For most things, you never need over level 100 (and there's no cap) so skills above that can be sold at a handsome profit.

The company takes it's profit from decay on virtual equipment. As far as I know, that's it. The rest goes into the loot pool. This, off course, means that of what we depo some is milked off. The playerbase total goes in minus. But some people does not seem to care much about spending, running around in armors costing 10000 or 20000 USD (that they bought, or looted though spending tons on ammo - or got lucky - in a few cases) and generally spend. Others carefully reseach the most economical gear and count every cent spent and won.

Don't hop into EU thinking you will get rich fast. The social aspect has been mentioned here - it's excellent. Always a few idiot's but in total an amazing mix of people from all over the world, with very diverse professions and interests in RL. There are several radio stations (web based), many chat's (TS, Mumble, Skypegroups etc).
Age of players differs as wildly as their locations. The minimum age is 13 (with consent) but who's checking. Oldest I know is 72. A great many Entropians are between 20 and 35, thereabouts. There are actually a lot of females behind F avatars (voice chat confirms).

There are a lot of people who will share time - and often resources - with new players. An example: One Arkadia based player has setup a mining deal, where he covers all costs against a 50/50 revenue share. The very valuable mining skills you get is yours apart from the share. A medium skilled miner can easily make a profit here to support other things ingame, like hunting, or just save up. Planet Arkadia btw is a good spot to start - as I see it, good starter missions (free) with relevant rewards.

I do understand people getting frustrated with EU. It is easy to spend a lot of money and loose. Don't get on the drinks and use that credit card every time you find something you fancy. Or please do, if you are rich, add to the loot pool!

Clearly EU is not for everyone - no game is. But it is worth a peek in - that at least is free, with no need to register any cards or such bs.

The biggest issue with this is the game is designed in a way that disallows you from being self sufficient. The game has "jobs" and missions you can take on to progress in game, but the amount of loot you find or is dropped is never enough to actually support you. You will never be rewarded money or find it laying around.

In order to play this game, you WILL have to spend money, I spent some time trying to farm some monsters, just out of the newbie zone; the rewards VS work ratio is terrible. The game developers even stated the game was designed to cost $2.00 an hour or so to play.

Garbage game, garbage game mechanics, outdated style and game play and terrible real currency conversion system, stay away from this at all costs.

Entropia is an exciting game, they have improved over the years and are constantly working on making the game better. You can also invest in the game and earn like 8.5% annual return on your investments by investing in land deeds. They have an auction house on which you can trade and make real money. People should check this game out, id give it a 10 on 10 because those who like it, love it.

This is not a game, this is not a virtual universe, this a scam. No matter how much time and money you spend, no matter what you do, you will always lose money. You spend $10, you get $5 back. You spend $100, you get $50 back. You spend $1000, you get $500 back. Skills don't matter, equipment doesn't matter, all that matters is you MUST get lucky to break even or profit slightly.

If you want to sit in the auction all day, make the game more expensive for other players, pay a ton of fees and make a couple cents per hour, go for it. Everything else is just too expensive unless you can afford to dump thousands of dollars monthly into this random number generator engineered to be as addictive and expensive as possible.

The saddest thing is, this would be a really good game if the balancing team cared about the players having a shot at some sort of progression if they play their cards right. However, all they care about is revenue. It doesn't matter at all how you play, the returns are rigged against you no matter what.

Second of all, when you do figure out how to equip a weapon, you have basically enough ammunition to take out 3 mobs and you're basically done. You have no other way to defend yourself. You can't even melee the ram that is bashing you.

Third of all, the shooting mode in the game is extremely clumpsy and full of bugs. On my computer, when I go into firing mode, there is no firing bulls-eye that pops up UNLESS I go into first person mode. But wait there is more! When in firing mode in first person mode, the bulls-eye can only be moved by holding down the right mouse button and moving your person as opposed to the standard FPS method. But I'm not done yet! The game gets even worse because the same button you use to fire, is also the same button you use to check info so every time you fire you get the info box blocking your cursor. You have to move that info box out of the way to even fire or else you will just go into the info screen which blocks up a great percent of your window.

This game is horrible. Stay away from it.

That being said, you'll start out on Calypso exploring and having fun and quickly realize to do anything significant in the game you need to spend a lot of money. Most MMO's have a subscription of $20 per month on average. In Entropia Universe everything costs money--every bullet you shoot must be bought. Every stitch of armor, clothes, gun, tool--it all costs realworld money and it DECAYS as you use it. A decect set of armor which might last you a month of playing will cost about $30. A decent gun will cost you $10 or $20 and burn out in a couple days of playing and be useless junk. Every time you pull a trigger it costs you a penny or more on average. Big beautiful world, but really nothing mroe than a giant online casino (don't fool yourself). The most disappointing aspect is--a real casino will comp you drinks, dinner and a hotel room for way less than what you spend in Entropia with no reward. If you can afford to blow $100 per month inside a video game--you'll have fun in Entropia. But, most people play for years and spend thousands only to realize there is no real reward for playing. The loot is decent for about an hour after you deposit and fades to a 50% loss on each outing after that. The loot was good once upon a time (useful items, cool guns and armor) now it's mostly crap you exchange for PEDs at terminals. There are people in this game spending $1,000 per month--it's crazy--and you'll see them "globalling" in the chat. However, you'll likely get nothing similar and be frustrated unless you deposit $1,000 or more. Let me add one more caveat!!! They brag about it being a real cash economy and that you can withdraw your money if you "need extra cash" LMFAO. They don't pay out. They take your money in realtime, but wait months (if ever) to pay your withdrawal request--and the skills you build are worth money, yes--but you need empty skill chips to sell them. Empty skill chips cost more than the skills you would put in them and they only drop as loot to big players who then control the market for them at auction. All in all a beautiful world they've created, but a cash-sucking vortex--BEWARE. Expand

Do not come into this game expecting to make money. I see a lot of people complaining about not making any money from this game, you have to remember this is a game made by a studio, of course it was not designed to make people money, they need profits for development and for upkeep of the servers. Yes there are people who have made money in this game but that is a small % of players. You will most likely not make money from this game nor should you expect to. That brings me to the other thing, depositing. This game doesn't hide the fact that you can purchase in-game currency for real money, if you don't like this real-money economy then this isn't the game for you, however in my humble opinion this isn't really a problem. You can deposit as much as you want to or nothing it is entirely up to you and what you want out of the game, I believe the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself, maybe meet some new people. I feel like when people look at this game somehow the sense of what a game is leaves their brain and they stop understanding how video games work and that is you pay for entertainment either by buying the game or in this case buying things in the game. In fact, this is how most MMORPGs work, and I find it funny that the same crowd who is putting this game down and overlooking it because of it's real money economy plays games like BDO which has predatory microtransactions, WoW where you can also buy in game money for real money and other microtransactions, EVE Online - same thing. And you cannot even withdraw anything from these games so everything you put in stays in unlike with Entropia.

Now as for the game itself, it is really fun, you can start out by doing some of the early missions, there are a few things you can do mainly, hunting and mining. There is also trade and crafting but those two are a little more advanced. The game always has something to keep you busy, there are also PVP zones where you can battle other players, in some of these you can also loot players so make sure to keep that in mind, you can go to different planets and explore new locations, missions and activities there, there is also space where I haven't been to yet but there's a whole lot more content there as well as space stations etc. The UI is a little outdated although they have improved it over the years from what iv'e seen. You can level up professions and skills which will increase your proficiency within that particular field. So for example when you level up pistols you will be able to use them more efficiently, but there are also other skills that go into using them like aiming for example.

Overall I think that people see this game very negatively for no good reason when it isn't much different from any of the other MMORPGs on the market right now.

To the point that if you have been hacked and they have emptied your account, they go hey wow that looks suspicious and lock your account AFTER. Than you get to spend days if not weeks working thru to unlock by proving your identity to their Support team that still does nothing they do not freeze your transactions nor send you an email about it either. There are no reports on where your items went ( ie.. transaction logs for you to look at) etc etc. Oh also forgot they can sometimes get your things back but costs 1000 PED (100 US dollars). This all happened as well during their IPO / changeover from the inworld Calypso land deeds change to a 'shares' time as well. Makes me wonder if it was an inside job.

You need to really be careful getting into this game and be prepared for the worse in terms of losing your time and investment. I am glad and saddened to have had this happen after so long and finding how awful their Support is. I never set it up to be connected to my bank or Credit cards.
