Enigmatis: The Mists of Ravenwood is the sequel to the smash hit Enigmatis: The Ghost of Maple Creek. It is a detective story rich with horror, plot twists, and shadowy intrigue.

A year has passed since the events of Maple Creek. But for the past few months, our detective has been hot on the trail of the demonic preacher she fought one year ago. Yet he has managed to always stay one step ahead. She hoped to bring an end to the chase in the redwood forests of Northern California. But like so many times before, the trail went cold...

Then she encountered an abandoned camper in the middle of the highway. Enormous claw marks scored the roof and the lost family's personal belongings were scattered everywhere. All signs pointed to the scene being fresh. And all clues led into nearby Ravenwood Park...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great point and click puzzle game with a good story.

Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood is a great point and click adventure game and the first I ever played that lasted an impression on me.

You enter a strange park called Ravenwood, where all sorts of strange and unusual things take place. Right at the start, you see a camper with strange claw marks on it, indicating that some beast or monster is lurking somewhere in the park. You discover that some sort of weird preacher dude is behind the mysterious events in the park and decide to investigate it. On your research, many horror elements and plot twists surprise you and the overall composition of the story is just great.

The game also includes a little bonus adventure called The Redeemed Memories, which is a little prequel story followed by the main game and its adventure.

This is one of the many great games from Artifex Mundi. It is also the first I ever played, followed by Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride and Nightmares from the Deep 3: Davy Jones. This installment in the series remains my favorite because of the dark and horror like atmosphere the game has. The other games have some sort of rescue mission, while this one focuses on solving a mystery and keeping you in the dark (and mist) most of the time.

Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood plays the same as other Artifex Mundi games. You follow the story, discover hidden items that you can use to create tools or to open mechanisms, find objects in hidden-object puzzles and try to figure out where to go to next. You got many areas to visit, each with their own obstacles, puzzles and items to find. You explore, tying together pieces of the story in order to unravel the mystery.

The mechanics are fine and responsive, you click and click and need a keen eye to separate the various backgrounds from actual objects you can find. You can use hints if you are not certain what to do next, but it is far more fun to just figure it out by yourself.

Graphically, the game looks just as fine as the other games from Artifex Mundi. It is that soft shader style artwork that looks beautiful and enhances every game, each with their unique theme. For this reason, this game is dark, misty and grim, exactly how it should be.

The ambient music plays a great role in this too. It lets you know that you are on a quest to unravel all the mysteries and weird things that happen in Ravenwood park.

Like the other games, my only complaint is that the hint button is too large and cannot be hidden. This matters, when you want to complete the game without any hints. Any miss-click forces you to start the whole game again and does not offer any retries.

I have to say that Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood offers the most challenging puzzles of all the games so far. Many times, I was not sure what was expected of me and in one case, I even needed to lookup a walkthrough. It is challenging but a little frustrating at the same time.

Overall, I had a good time with the game. The story was interesting and fun, the puzzles challenging and original, the soundtrack is wonderful, and the overall feeling of the game is just great.

Definitely recommend Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood.

The mini puzzles were fairly easy and with 2 different ways to complete the hidden object sections you're never stuck searching for that last item you just can't find. The story was well done and kept me engaged the whole time, wanting to uncover more of the mystery. The only negative was that I didn't realize this was a sequel and the first game isn't available on steam yet. I will definitely play more games by this publisher, although next time I'll up the difficulty as casual was giving me too many hints. Expand

The visuals are actually great this time – a wonderful mix of green forests and purple shadows in a hand-drawn style. While a few music tracks from the first game are re-used, the rest a newly composed and wonderfully capture the atmosphere. The story did a great job at maintaining my interest; the twist wasn’t hard to predict, though. Voice-acting is average, again. But the return of a refined evidence gathering mechanic, coupled with some fun new puzzle twists and environmental riddles, means the gameplay is excellent. And yes, there is fast-travel, thankfully!

Recommended. And if you haven’t tried a hidden-object game before, this is one to consider. Though you might never look at ravens the same way again...
Total size on my hard-drive: 900MB
Wallpapers and music tracks from the game are included when downloaded via Steam.

If you’re a parent looking for a game for your children to play, there is major character peril, as well as themes involving life-force being drained from people . Also some demonic rituals.

I really love the design and the atmosphere of puzzles. Maybe they are not challenging but really fun to play. After playing the first game,I really love the design and the atmosphere of puzzles.
