nakedsunJul 10, 2009I've been playing total war games since shogun and this is the first time iv been disappointed. this game countless problems glitches and obvious short comings. I feel ripped off this game was not worth £35. all the professional reviews skate over the problems with this game, seriously did anybody ACTUALLY PLAY THIS CRAP BEFORE THEY RELEASED IT!?!?!?

DuffJul 21, 2009Between all the problems such as the crashes, the glitches, and just the gameplay in general, it deserves no better than a 4 if that. besides that theres basically no objectives besides the new world owning european powers and when will this game ever be taken to having the map play on multi player?! i thought that was part of the game when i bought it =/ major step down from rome and medi II.

MikeWWJul 22, 2009I actually kind of liked the game at first but I just decided after not playing for a few months to start a new game and I keep getting a message that the servers are busy!?!? I HAVE the DVDs - I PAID for the DVDs! This company owes money back to customers if this is not resolved!

SheldonWJul 24, 2009Steam slows installation. Support for installation is patchy, but the game wouldn't install without it. This is not a game you can just go , out buy and play. Nine hour install on a quad-core. I missed the steam sticker on the back. Never again. The last SEGA game I'll buy.

MatsBJul 29, 2009Here comes a low vote from me, because i think this is a scam! Paying about 50$ for a game, that i cant play b/c of all the bugs. Some proper patches, that makes the game DON'T crash when i try to start it, and so on.. It worked for a few hours and now i cant even start it.. I´ve read a lot on the web about this, and it aint just me who´s having these issues.

FrankEJul 3, 2009From the disappointing AI for land/sea battles to the flawed pathfinding and then the horrible crashes you experience, it just makes you want to toss the game into the dumpster and be done with it. The game is rampant of bugs and bad coding. I justify this with a zero

JesseS.Aug 27, 2009This game makes me furious. I've been waiting for a good 4 hours for it to install and it still says it will take another 5 hours. The most retarded thing i have seen out of any computer game !!! Just installing the game is a huge piss off ! I'm already disappointed with it, and I haven't even started playing it yet !

dubidudubiAug 5, 2009DON'T BUY THIS GAME. It is FULL of bugs; some of them appear at the end of great campaign making you lose all the time you wasted on it. Absolutely disappointing that a so good game have so many unplayable bugs... I'm sure that all the development team have been fired after this.

WimpieMSep 13, 2009Empires unfortunately falls short of a complete product as too many bugs plague this once amazing title. However, without all the bugs, graphical glitches, AI problems and incessant crash to desktop issues this could have been the best strategy game to date. There might be too many issues to sort out with patch releases so let's hope Napoleon Totalwar can deliver what Empires should have.

MichaelRDec 1, 2009Spent days trying to install it and then it didn't work properly. Little to no support and married to Steam with no prospects for improvement. Don't buy it, don't buy from CA or SEGA and don't ever have anything to do with Steam. It's just another form of robbery.
-
-
peterfDec 22, 2009Disappointing land battles no tactics needed whatsoever and if you crash one ship into another nothing really happened the AI tries to slow your ships down when it thinks your going to crash as well so where is the control !!!

DanAMar 13, 2009Empire is by far the best strategy game that i have ever played. Grpahics are breathtaking, runs on my xps 400 like silk(8800gts, 3 gigs of ram and intel core duo 3.2).
@ RYAN S
GET A BETTER COMPUTER.. its a mystery to me why people like you even exist, if you cant get a good computer dont buy the game!!!!! otherwise stop your whining becasue no one wants to hear it -
-
BenBoeveMar 14, 2009Although the Steam aspect of the game is somewhat disappointing, the game itself is very good with a campaign map across three theaters. The battles play very much the same of Medieval Total War 2 which is fine because the battles were great. Naval battles are also very enjoyable with a good amount of attention paid to detail.

-
stephenMar 17, 2009this game is now one of my favourites, the graphics are good, gameplay with the formations and all , just like a real battle in the 17th hundreds, i am a real fan for RTS games and this is my first total war game, and i hav to say , not much can beat this this.

leejacksonJun 25, 2009Havering played all the other total war games and owning them i was disappointed by this title, compared to the other titles the game was over simplified for i guess people who don't like learning curve, the ai is terrible at empire management and in battles and will refuse almost all your diplomacy requests

SteveCAug 11, 2009I would be happy to give this game an 8 or 9 if it wasn't so buggy. I have never had issues like I do with this game. I will say I have been using Steam for quite a while and have been satisfied with it. The problems with this bug filled piece of software belong to Creative Arts and SEGA. Fix this darn game and make it a good edition to a great family of games.

Dec 26, 2010Absolute piece of junk. Total waste of money. Took 4 hours to install and update. Graphics come up incorrectly so you cannot make any adjustments to the game to even get it started. Takes over 10 minutes to actually load and start. Total waste, don't buy this game, it sucks.
-
Mar 27, 2012The graphics are beautiful, there is no doubting that. However everything else was a huge step backwards from TW:M2.
Rather than going to one place in every region now you have to click on a bunch of different areas. Haven't been able to figure out how to speed up the enemy or my own troop movement on the world map. In general I just can't stand this new version. -

Jun 4, 2011Incredibly bad, nearly non existent AI ensures this game will get a very low score from me.
The "professional" reviewers should truly be ashamed of themselves. Likely, they are $miling all the way to the bank though. -
Dec 30, 2011The Total War series have always impressed me, mainly due to their vast size, complexity and attention to detail. Empire Total War raises the bar even higher with its absolutely HUGE map size, its meaningful strategy and addictive gameplay. Truly one of the most immersive and engrossing strategy games ever made.
-
Jan 6, 2012I am very surprised at the user score for this game. This is a step up in graphics, and the game involves a different kind of strategy this time around. My pc died and choked to death on the campaign map at 1080p max settings. Endless replayability, great animations, top notch gameplay. Haters get out!

-
Dec 30, 2012The Total war series has had me hooked since medieval:total war. The games are just so epic, especially some of the battles provided your pc is fast enough. I can literally spend all day playing this game its so awesome. An example of how games should be made - it requires a brain!

Aug 14, 2020This game is initially an ambitious and innovative game ... On arrival, however, it is a nameless cloth. Bugged as it is not allowed, we play more to suffer and rage than to have fun.
The premise is good but nothing is right .. Messed up diplomacy, i messed up, messed up morale, town and strong messed up balancing between messed up faction and little that catches up with the title. -
TomL.Mar 23, 2009At this time the game is generally unplayable because of a memory leak that causes the game to crash randomly. Many people have experianced this so far. Check the community forums for more details. If the game didn't crash it would be around the 9/10 mark.

BrianJOct 8, 2009In my opinion this is the best RTS at the moment. - Great game play( As usual for the series) - Great graphics - Lots of new stuff compared to the previous games. There are still bugs, and at release I would have given it 6 or 7, but seeing that they have removed many of the bugs it deserves a 9!
-
-
AndrewBMar 30, 2009As per everyone else here, the game looks great, but its six months too early (Campaign AI & Bugs), DONT buy this game yet, wait for a sale in around six months and you will hopefully love every minute of it.

CarloDMar 8, 2009I think this is is the best game I have ever played, honestly, it takes you back to my favourite time in history, 1700-1850 and immerses you in a true new world. You need some cunning and wits to outsmart your enemies, because the new AI is getting quite realistic now. There are minor bugs, but they will surely be patched by Creative Assembly, just like with the rest of their games.

-
BoKApr 1, 2009High potential, limited by the moderate execution. As from start the game is lacking a lot of details to add that little extra that makes a great game. With a couple patches and updates it is destined to be a truly awesome game, but it's definitely not the game the commercial critics make it out to be, yet.

robosoftrobApr 7, 2009I rate this good game so low because i always get stuck in the middle of a campaign when the game crashes at a certain point. i can´t continue and would have to start a new campaign - this does not make sense. i will return the game to the shop, where i bought it. sorry, could be a good game.

-
stevenlMay 16, 2009Steam is crap. I am in Iraq and internet comes in at about 3kbs so having to do anything online is a pain. The game is good though and that is what this rating is for. For people dropping the low scores cause of steam, steam is not the game.

MacJun 6, 2009Great graphics! But boy oh boy the game is filled with bugs, It crashes, freezes and bunch of graphic glitches! AI is poor, The game is simply not finished, And in facts its on Steam. Oh well, This is the first time CA has done a mistake like this. So shameful. But Ill let it side this one time. But overall, games is "OK".

RDOct 10, 2009This idiotic STEAM REQUIREMENT makes this thing a pain. I want to play the game. Not be forced into downloads which wont stop even when you tell them to do so. You're locked out of playing until it's finished doing whatever it wants to do. I'll never purchase any game again from these people.

StevenROct 16, 2009All the way back to Shogun again. This could have been the chance to step up to the next level, but the game has been released too early and just leaves the player open mouthed and screaming WHY? at the terrible AI, especially in the campaign mode.
-
-
EamonOct 1, 2009As of patch 1.4 this game is completely different to how it was at launch. Almost no bugs, better AI across campaign and battle and new units all add up to an ambitious and awesome piece of interactive entertainment. looking forward to campaign multiplayer.
-
-
RenéH.Oct 2, 2009The game was already excellently designed on release but had too many serious technical and gameplay bugs. All serious issues have been fixed by now (current patch: 1.4). The game has improved vastly in the last months.
-
-
AlexandrOct 3, 2009Absolutely awful state at release. It was almost unplayable gameplay wise. And then with a patch they made the game technically unplayable until the following patch. Absolutely disgusting work from CA.
-
-
AshParadoxOct 4, 2009Bug fixes should've been done at the start. FINALLY the game is half-decent, but still not quite right in many areas. Rush-released and incomplete/broken. Had I reviewed on release, it'd have gotten a 5 at best.
-
-
HeinerG.Oct 6, 2009Very nice Game but although Patch 1.5 is released, the Game still crahes to Desktop nearly every turn, in Battles or on Campaign Map. This is very frustrating and sometimes i think its waste of time to play the great Campaign, because its nearly unplayable in the last 40 Turns because of CTD! Too bad.
-
-
StevenS.Oct 6, 2009Buggy game that went from broken AI, missing features (naval invaision AI) to a game that has saved games that corrupt, or won't start up now in the latest patch. Good for maybe 3 hours before you realize how horribly broken the game is, or if the game "helps" you to that realization by crashing.
-
-
MortisN.Oct 7, 2009
-
-
AdamWilsonOct 8, 2009I cant play the single player because it CTDs after every handful of turns.
The multiplayer is in the stone age is well behind the standard of other multiplayer games.
The way the battles play out are very unrealistic and riflemen fire like modern day snipers.
Avoid this game and future ones released by CA/ Total War. -

DirkBOct 9, 2009I consider medieval 2 total war to be the best experience I had in any total war game. However this game is a less popular genre then the mid ages but is still very good, the maps are gigantic and very detailed and there is so much added to the game. I think the main reason why users rate it this low is because the battles are harder to win than in medieval 2. its a very good game .

KlausM.Mar 20, 2009A great game with a bigger potential- when it is finished. Finished it clearly would be 9-10, the best strategy game for the computer. In this sad state, it is a promising beta/demo with which you also can play multiplayer battles. I would advise everyone to buy it- in half a year, when it is finished. Maybe it is even cheaper then!

Astonishing...Immense... A strategy masterwork. [Mar 2009, p.54]
-
In some ways, it's the closest we've come to the enormous social novel from the period after that which Empire chronicles: it's a Tolstoy-esque War and Peace of a game. Its problems may be the inevitable problems of trying something with such sheer scope. As such, if you want the breathtaking vision of the game, you have to accept the flaws in the details - for now, at least.
-
This is the best Total War game thanks to all the little tweaks. Sometimes little differences make a good game great. The battles ask of you that you think more about your actions and managing your empire never was easier. The sea battles are fun to watch, but are a little hard to control. Nevertheless, Empire: Total War is a game that can make you forget about the time.
