Utter garbage, literally the worst game on Steam. The devs promised so much, charged so much for lifetime expansions. Barely 1/10th of what was promised was delivered, and what was delivered is broken. If you complain at all on any forum related to the game you are instantly banned because the game has lost nearly all its players and the mods are in full damage control.

I love it. It is beautiful and deep and I have sunk way too many hours of my life into it. Not a 10 as it’s too grindy and the graphics could be better but fantastic anyway and I keep coming back.

My post was "Buy Starfield. ED is over." Literally 5 words.

Surprise surprise the hateful E:D moderators issued a ban for this, with the excuse being "Spamming" and nothing more. I suggest you steer clear from toxic teams like that of E:D. The game is abandoned anyway. They only release paid cosmetics.

There are some story events but they are all aimed at end-game players so i never actually seen any of that.

Even just starting up my ship is a euphoric experience for me in Elite Dangerous and I never get tired of it. The ships are overly complicated in Star Citizen and the set up is intimidating. Playing it feels more like hard work. That's not to say I don't enjoy Star Citizen, it's the second best space sim in my opinion and there are aspects of it that are better than elite dangerous ( I love my persona and character development in Star Citizen as well as walking around my ship). What I usually do is play Star Citizen for a few hours and when exhaustion sets in and I get tired of the bugs I switch to Elite Dangerous which feels more polished and way more chilled to play. But we really are spoiled brats when we get to play such amazing games and we fight over which is better. Play your favourite or play both and just be grateful you are born in a time that we can have such amazing experiences in video games. When I was a kid I used to fantasize about exploring space and having amazing adventures there. 10 year old me would have pissed his pants with excitement if he could have played either of these two games back then. The developers never really achieved anything with the game over the years that it has been out, only adding few new things each major DLC which you have to buy to get access to them. The problem with this game is that it is too grindy, you would have to spend thousands of hours to get some of the better ships and grind out your ranks within this game to actually get anywhere. And the grind isn't even fun, it is extremely repetitive and becomes boring very quickly. Any new content that is released just adds a massive amount of grind into the game instead of some compelling and fun gameplay. And with the fiasco release of the Odyssey DLC the developers just completely cancelled any future console development for this game as well as cancelling that DLC for consoles. The game had a lot of potential but it was completely and entirely wasted by the developers and the game is just a dying waste of time right now. Expand

It certainly isn't perfect, but with Odyssey and after a very rocky launch it's the most feature complete and rich space sim experience you can have on PC. It looks and runs great (Admittedly this is on a 5900x with a 4070ti and 64GB of RAM) and has an absolute ton of different kinds of content to do and places to explore. The king of the space sims at the moment!

I didn't had a Metacritic account, but i've created mine today just to review Elite Dangerous here, after seeing so much cowardice in some reviews.

I didn't had a Metacritic account, but i've created mine today just to review Elite Dangerous here, after seeing so much cowardice in some reviews.

First, Elite Dangerous is not meant for everyone, if you want a all colorfull LGBT flag like space, forget about it, it's a spacesim, a real, genuine spacesim, if you love sci-fi, space tech theories, physics and space itself, you name it, this game is for you! (watched Interstellar or a similar movie and liked it? It's for you too).

Now i'm addressing most of the things i saw here, and explaining why the opinion of the people who wrote them, can't be considered. As i think these people haven't played enough,

    1 - It's boring and grindy:
Again, it's a spacesim, you are just one person in a full scale galaxy, if you don't want to work your way to be good in the role/roles you chose, go play something else, not a SIMULATOR, and i have bad news for you, space is not for you, as it is mostly, well, boring. Long time to travel (for explorers), a extensive list of succesfull combats is needed for your ranks (well, it's combat), trading, exobiology, etc, everything needs some work.

    2 - It's buggy:
I have nearly 1000 hours of gameplay, and yes, it does have some bugs like any other software, but none of them broke something or happened frequently, indeed it's pretty rare to happen. It's a network heavy game, if you have a decent internet connection and is not running P*rnhub along with the game, it will work ok, try it.

3 - DLCs for walking and bla bla:
The game was released in 2014, it didn't had a way for landing on planets, let alone walking on them. So FDEV at the end of 2015 released Horizons (it did cost a lot of money, do you expect it to be free? It's optional anyway, the base game is there at a low price) after one year of release, and then in 2021 they released Odyssey (7 years after the base game! is that bad for you??) whicn again, was expensive to make and the EXPANSION costs money, it's OPTIONAL. Note that the Horizons has been made free after the Thargoid war started, it comes in the base game.

4 - It's an MMO but not enough interaction and bla bla:
This argument is really messed up. The galaxy is HUGE, and if you are outside of the most populated systems, of course you'll find no one or just a few people, now if you go to systems like Shinrarta Dezhra, Sol, etc, the chat is non stop, you see ships supercruising all over the place, stations full, combat zones with lots of players participating, you name it.
And, the background simulator makes it feel really alive, all actions have consequences and a lot times you have to work with other people to achieve things, mainly if you are part of a squadron.
I receive friends requests at almost every play session as i find a bunch of players and interact with them. If you play the game now during the ongoing thargoid war, you will see lots and lots of people on the systems which the attacks to repel the aliens are being coordinated to(via a huge Discord server of the Anti Xeno Initiave, by the quick progress you can see how the players are truly engaged, and in masses). The game let you wing up with other people, and shows to you, in which system your friend actually is.

5 - The controls are complicated you need bla bla:
You don't need anything special, it's a complex game and you'll get used to after some play time, be it a keyboard+mouse (the way i play) a controller/pad or a HOTAS, it works pretty well, you just need to learn, play the tutorials. You don't want to jump in a game like Elite, not even knowing the difference between normal space, supercruise and witchspace, for a basic example.

    6 - Bad support:
I needed FDEV support just once, and they were pretty quickly to solve my request. Anyway, it's pretty hard to think about cases that you'll need support. I opened a ticket when i was new to the game and i didn't understand why my ship got destroyed inside a station, well, they explained to me why (I did a bad thing) but they just gave me back the credits i've spent to pay for the ship insurance, and i didn't even asked for it.

I could talk more about the cowardices, but i'm reaching the 5000 char limit.
Just to finish, the topics i've talked about is what i most saw in the "bad reviews", i am a space enthusiast, i love sci-fi, i love theories and the idea of travelling out there, for me, Elite is the only piece of media that can fulfill this desire of mine as for any other person with a similar profile, for me is the best spacesim game ever made, it's amazing, massive, complete, believable and every people make a difference in this ever changing Milky Way.

Read what i wrote carefully, compare with the other superficial reviews, and try to conclude if this is or not for you. o7.

The VR is terrible, i dont even know why they added it because it is totally useless. You gotta use your keyboard to do everything, the controllers arent used for anything, you cant sit while your in the game because then youll just clip inside of your body, you dont really get motion sick TOO fast but its still pritty bad. This feature needs to be removed because it serves no purpose besides make you sick while you play. Update: After not playing for a year almost all bugs still exist, gameplay is still horrible and multiplayer is even worse with constant disconnects. You can be in the same system with 20 people and see 3 people, jump out then in 3 more new people.. P2P is trash, and this multiplayer is very very limited. Fleet Carriers are a complete joke, im sure the only guy that put more than 2 hours into them was the model designer that could have been done when this game was released as easy as now. They are the only "end game" content, credits are pointless and you cant even share them without a huge hassle of dumping cargo or using a fleet carrier to set prices. Yeah the galaxy is big, but after you've seen the a handful of the models and find out theres nothing actually special to find...

New update: Now it sucks even harder with the stupid space legs DLC breaking compatibility with Horizons so now even fewer people can play together. The next update will separate everyone running original, horizons and space legs no one will be able to play with each other without matching versions. Nothing has improved still and its plagued by all the worst UI and connection bugs I've ever dealt with. These people hate you

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a large enough pool of cash, as other games that haven't delivered, so it's not evolving as fast as fans wish it to. 700, 1000 hours in, people get bored. Oopsy... but that doesn't mean new players shouldn't try it, even if they only intend to put in just 50-100h into it.

It has a great concept, decent visuals, amazing audio and it can be played solo (as I played most of it) and/or cooperatively or in PvPvE mode (with MMO features if you so choose).

I had the most amazing experience a few years back, I explored the Milky Way as it is recreated in the game (they hired experts in the field to make sure that the galaxy is recreated according to data we have, the nearest 150k systems that were mapped by astronomers are present in the game, while everything else that we don't have data for had to be guessed so that the number and types of bodies match what scientists would expect with our current understanding of things - how cool is that?).

The journey took 6 months IRL (playing several times a week 2-3h each play session). In game I jumped over 60k light years and visited 3000 star systems across half the galaxy, looking to chart at least one star of each class and size, at all stages of development recreated in the game (made up my own challenge, because this is that kind of a game). Not going to lie, it's a boring experience, it's about the journey not the instant gratification. While playing I watched all the TV series, YT content that I never made time for and re-watched some sci-fi shows too. The difficulty comes from the fact that if you die, you loose all the data you collect and the boredom makes it easy to make mistakes and get burned by jumping into a dangerous system because tens of previous jumps were safe. If it were any other way, you'd lose interest really fast. But in of itself, this approach is a very realistic portrayal of how such a journey would be 99% of the time. It's just that in that other 1% you find something that is so amazing or breathtaking that it makes it all worth while. And this is just one of the things I've tried.

It's also why I confidently tell you to ignore the reviews and the negativity, dive into a sci-fi experience that is unamtched.

Having now spent over 500 hours and I can say Elite is not a game, it's a boring space / loading screen simulator.

Flight model, dynamics 9/10 it's quite fun to fly and pew pew

Network: 5/10 limited to wings of 4 lots of instancing issues, almost unplayable

Gameplay : 2/10 (very limited and inconsistent, chaotic) This is the biggest problem of this title. The game is split in many activities ( that have little to no-overlap) and gets overall very basic, repetitive and dull. You will be jumping stars and looking a lot at a loading screen and you are meant to like it!

MMO : 0 /10 all you can do is shoot others or drop/pickup cargo ... the money in game cannot be transfered. There are lots gameplay limitation that ruins the game (cannot carry upgrades around ...) pushing players to find loopholes to get around those ... leading the dev to create more nerf / constraints to block players to do what they want = no freedom = more salt = less fun. The only impact you can have is the label of the faction controling a system or a nametag on a planet for having discovered it first. This "thing" is soporific!

Difficulty : 3/10 there s quite a bit to learn before you feel confortable flying around., you may feel like burning your joystick while you are learning... It's really difficult to not get bored too as all the end-game content is simply hidden away behind a soul-crushing repetitive grind that will make you regret to play this game.

If you like space games, have friends to play with, and have a lot of imagination, then this game is for you : it will provide the world for your space adventures. But don't expect too much variety in missions and activities. The bare extra-ordinary content will be created by you and what you decide to do and will always revolve around doing the same missions or shooting others.

Space travel is soooo slow and long, this game will require a lot of patience, a lot of time just looking at a loading screen.

Very bad interface and control schemes. The simplest of actions are made convoluted. Bad tutorials, so you have to spend hours looking at youtube community tutorials instead. This game seems to be optimised for HOTAS and VR, without enough consideration for mouse and keyboard. PvE NPC difficulty balancing is awful, and they cheat. PvP is also broken (engineering etc). I also ran into many serious bugs (my PC runs other games fine). Such a pity, as this game has great potential.

Tolle Entscheidung. Vom Speichern will ich gar nicht erst reden.
    Grafik ist ziemlich schick.

Gets pretty grindy at times, but exploring space is really fun. All the mechanics are well thought out, and graphically, it is beautiful.

This is fine for the first several hours but after that it is extremely repetitive and shows little to no depth in the gameplay. You use tools like "Road to Riches" to find valuable planets to probe netting you 800-900k credits per scanned planet + 25% bonus if you hit efficiency in probing.

Mining: Another type of activity to make money. Surface mining involves using lasers just on the surface and using limpets to grab the materials that are refined on the ship. Then you sell using tools like eddb to find the highest price. Core mining involves using a scanner to see which ones light up (as well as turn dark, and being the right shape). A lot of good tutorials on core mining and is easy if you have the credits to outfit a ship. You lay charges on fissures, blow them up, surface abrasion the surface deposit while limpets again grab minerals you then refine on the ship. Simple. But after doing this for several days, I cant see the point of grinding such monotonous gameplay.

Combat: Played PVP in the Arena. Was OK, you unlock ships really quick and are given a variety of weapons and outfits to choose your play style. Once you have the credits from mining/exploration, you can outfit a ship for PVE. Using the many tools such as Coriolis to see all the options. Did missions hunting pirates. Fought in resource extraction sites. Decided to stop and ask myself what else by looking on Youtube. I saw nothing that called on me to continue playing. Hunting thargoids maybe?

Engineering: Simple gather materials to "engineer" your ship components; simply means you can choose to upgrade specific things at the cost of some negative consequences. Overall your ship will be a lot stronger, faster, and can travel further. Getting this early especially a component that allows further travel (FSD) is key and simple. I used YouTube to farm a bunch of tier 5 materials easily.

Side note: I used EDMC, EDEngineering, EDDB, INARA, several road to riches tools that all work the same, and YouTube. This game just lacks depth and fun gameplay. The new expansion Odyssey might add something worth spending money on.

First minute the game takes your breath away and then it entertains you for another couple of hours to end up like a meditative tool for hard working individuals. What a waste and shame for a game in such beautiful environment. [Issue#253]

Everyone who played the original game back in the 80's, should be right at home. It's the 21st Century version of "Elite." But newer, uninitiated players may find it strangely desolate and repetitive. A grand space simulation, aimed at the series' hardcore fans.

You can focus on the journey, not the destination – even when some "road work" signs will bother you for the time being in the reincarnated Elite. But their numbers are declining with every new update so a thirty-year-old vision becomes more and more complete.
