    I'm just not as smitten with Electronic Super Joy 2 as I was with the first. The free price tag makes this a lot more palatable, but I do believe more could have been done here. It's a little disappointing, but still a fun time that fans of the first are sure to get something out of. Just don't go in expecting anything dramatically different.

    With over fifty levels to vault yourself through, hacking and slashing the entire way, mind you -- you'll deal almost as much death as you receive. Electronic Super Joy 2 is incredibly unforgiving. A brutal platformer like its predecessor, the objective is to make it to the end past the moaning checkpoints (A feature that can be turned off) to cleave down 4 insanely difficult boss fights.

    Learning the basics is easy, as the game does a great job at explaining itself in the first couple of levels. As you master the controls, you'll be pitted against not only enemies but the terrain itself. The environments are a wonderful use of gradient tones in pixel art, making a huge impact on the mood of the game. In cohesion with that, we have a fantastic soundtrack that you can groove along with whilst dealing out wanton destruction, a combination I have come to favor in my time playing.

    More mechanics get introduced gradually throughout the game, which amplifies the fun, but at a slight cost: there are no enemy health meters for the FPS sections and the UI is not incredibly supportive.

    Controller support is there for the game, but buttons cannot be individually remapped and navigation through the level select is incredibly difficult as of now. The developers are honestly known for quality, so my guess is that these issues will likely be addressed soon.

    Even as it is, the adventure is there, the mood is there, and this is still a very polished product that most players won't be tempted to skip out on -- because its being listed at $0.00 with DLC at $12.99 in the future to support the developers, which we ALL should do.

    Cons:
    -Controller button mapping is wonky
    -Level select screen is hard to navigate
