This is the worst game I've tried. It could be fun if they fix all the bugs that exist, but I don't really think this will happen. The most annoying part is that you have a button to dodge, but you just can't because it's completely lagged.

It doesn't actually work correctly, so it can't really be called a game. IF it functioned, it'd be a completely forgettable action game you might play one day on game pass or something since it's free anyway. The fact that it punishes solo play by just giving you the same encounters as multiplayer but has a god awful multiplayer interface should probably be an indicator to stay away.

On top of that, you can’t add friendly bots if say you wanted to play offline for a bit to collect loot before the next online session. Furthermore, the difficulty won’t scale for singleplayer, making things even messier.

This is 100% a game in Early Access. They need to get ahead now with patch release details assuring this will be a proper game at some point.

Not to mention the broken hitboxes, traps that damage you even though they are not on and the horrible AI, 6/10 times the AI just stand there. Without even attacking. If you play on the difficulty that is recommended for you, you 2/3 hit every enemy. Play on 1 difficulty higher and every enemy becomes a bullet sponge like a mini boss..

Levels do look great though and really captures the D&D vibes.

I ask why? Why does such a wonderful universe have to get something as terrible as this game? I will not elaborate here about the qualities of this game (there are none). At least it couldn't be done in the style of God of War or Devils may Cry?

For the historical record, at the time of this review the following scores were given by these highly trustworthy source:

PC Gamer, and Eurogamer Italy gave it an 8 / 10

Millenium (?), IGN Italia, God is a Geek (ok that has to be fake), GAMINGbible (?), Shacknews, and Attack of the Fanboy (another fake?) gave it 7 / 10

Multiplayer.it (worst webpage I have seen in decades - plural) gave it a 6.6 / 10 but did not bother with a review. So you know they are professional.

I had been looking forward to DnD:DA for a long time. I saw the first reviews were overwhelmingly negative, so I held off. I instead watched a considerable amount of streamers play this game before playing it myself, and each one seemed to be having fun with it. The game looked great, so i decided to try it myself.
    I'm very glad I did.
Let me address some of the "issues": 1. "Bugs":

I instead watched a considerable amount of streamers play this game before playing it myself, and each one seemed to be having fun with it. The game looked great, so i decided to try it myself.
    I'm very glad I did.
Let me address some of the "issues":
    1. "Bugs": After about 20 hours of gameplay, I have encountered 1 game altering bug, which caused my character to become stuck on an enemy mob. This occurred once in 20 hours, and while annoying, I was able to just kill them mob and become unstuck. I can see how if this happened on a boss, you would likely die. As unfortunate as that would be, a 10-20 second bug within 20 hours of gameplay is not much to complain about.
    2. General QoL/Clunkiness: There are a couple clunky spots such as the "loot reward" chest, where if you click it while empty, you get hung up for a couple seconds while the game informs you its empty. It's a bit awkward, but after doing it once and learning not to, the 2-3 second inconvenience is not enough to warrant any type of negativity towards what is otherwise a really fun game.

    The Good:
    1. Combat: A very fast paced, while tactical brawler/hack and slash. Your very first game will be a bit slow/difficult as you only really have your basic light and heavy attack, and depending on your class, maybe a block and dodge. I also had anvil and taunt skills, but those are on a long cooldown when you first start so you won't be using them much. The game, if you select the proper difficulty for your gear score, strikes a pretty perfect balance of difficulty and progression. The fights are hard, can be long, and if you are skipping the "Short rests", the levels are a real challenge. I love 5-10 minute boss fights that boil down to not making any, or many mistakes. And when you do make a mistake, it is costly. As you level up you learn new moves and skills, and the game really opens up. You start doing new combos that completely alter the way you fight, and you feel "strong" pretty early on while also being aware that mobs still do a considerable amount of damage to you. Again, if you are level 15 with good gear doing tier 1 levels, you will 1 shot everything and the loot will suck. If you are level 1 trying tier 6, you will die to everything in one hit and the game will be impossible. This game gives you a lot of freedom, and unfortunately the reality of people, and gamers specifically, is there's more low iq types than high. With that freedom, these low iq types set the game difficulty to a setting that ruins their experience, and they come here crying.
    2. Progression: As the game goes on, you unlock new moves, passives, and skills. Additionally, you find new loot and there are sets with bonuses, you upgrade your gear to buff the stats, and you can do cosmetic changes to each piece to make custom sets.
    3. Graphics/Levels: This game has some of the best looking and best designed levels I've played in a long time. I am honestly hoping this game Dev makes more games in different universes (Warhammer / 40K PLEASE). There are 4-5 different environs all with different enemy types. Goblins will be a constant, but within goblins you have about 6 archetypes, there are also multiple verbeeg, Deuregar, etc.

Some tips: The camera default rotation speed is a bit slow for my liking, I would suggest upping this to max asap.

Haters will always hate, and it strikes me as mostly shut-in types that were hoping this game would be a suitable replacement for their bleak existence. It's a game, and it's a pretty good one. It's not perfect, but it's the best one I've played in 2021.

    Enjoy cause it's fun!

The actions are super clunky, the movements are robotic, and the graphics look like it was made for Xbox360. I struggle to call this a $10 game.

For me this game is solid 8 out of 10. It's fun. Not so hard compared to dark souls. With a friend can be really enjoyed. Many bosses. Not much missions but u get it on game pass. Maybe after a year or two it will get better with some end game content

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY POSITIVE REVIEWS. It's laggy, sluggish controls, camera angles are horrendous, bland throughout the whole game and I honestly don't recommend anyone buying it or even download it from Game Pass. Not worth your time, if I were a DnD fan I would most certainly feel like its a slap in the face.

One thing it could do is explain all the areas a little more but it has the depth of Diablo to the moves and gear.

There are some areas that do need working on but what new game doesn't especially one from a smaller studio. As other people have mentioned whack up the horizontal axis reaction as it is slow to turn but quickly remedied. I am 8 hours in and now running 2 characters to change up play with friends and loving it.

It needs work, it's not a ten. But it sure as hell isn't anything less than 6: so my 10 is to balance out the review bombs.

There's a learning curve and patches needed, but it's fun and isn't that what counts at the end? It's got good bones, need polish.

Overall, I enjoyed Dark alliance, is it game of the year contender? Not even close, but its nowhere near as bad as most are making it seem, its worth running through and playing by yourself or with friends, but there sadly is no life, in the form of content or loot to keep you playing beyond the final boss…
I give Dungeons and Dragons Dark alliance
    a 6.5/10

I was really keen on liking this game. It should be much much better. The basic set up of hack and slash and bite size segments seemed really good to play online with my brother. I was hoping it'd be like a 2021 version of Gauntlet or Golden Axe kind of thing. Unfortunately, the game is basically broken. Biggest issues are:

    - The online matchmaking is broken. There is no way to join a friends game or invite a friend within the game itself. You have to use the byzantine PS4 friends menu to do it. And even then it only works some of the time. For every 20 minutes we've spent playing we've spent 10 trying to connect and rebooting the game.
    - When online matchmaking works and you are able to complete a mission. 8 times out of 10 the party is disbanded and everyone is kicked out of the game causing you to go through the same broken process again.
    - Combat is button mashy in the worse way. Hit boxes make no sense and are inconsistent and there is no way to time anything because there is severe input lag. You can't interrupt an action nor can you interrupt enemies animations...but they can interrupt yours.
    - Lock on is terrible, it works most of the time but in the middle of a battle sometimes you can't switch enemy targets and others you'll random be targeting a barrel in the background. When you are locked on and you try to dodge, the way the camera works, you just roll in a circle around your locked on target. Oh and you can't change or deactivate lock on during an animation from a previous button press. So lets say you've tried to do an over long animated attack but need to retreat you have to 1) Press button to attack 2) wait for animation to complete 3) click button to deactivate lock on 3) retreat...if you push the deactivate while the animation is still going it won't register.
    - The AI is awful enemies won't engage at a distance so you can just snipe everything if you really want to and they will never even turn to face you

There's the possibility of a decent game here but these issues should have been fixed long before this game was ever released

ill get this out of the way now, the biggest problem with this game is the bugs. i play on a base ps4 and my other players are on pros, or ps5 respectfully. we all have had freezing on loading screens, bad framerate and both players and items getting stuck.

that being said, there is a real fun game under it. if your not familiar with the drizzt story, this is not a good introduction, you can get the jests of it through some side comments, but they seemed to leave a lot out, or hinted at, for you to read the books on your own, which i recommend.

gameplay wise, there are 4 characters, you have a barbarian, with a war hammer, a ranger archer, a dwarf paladin, and a dark elf rogue (even though he was not a rogue in the books.) each play different, but you should be aware that there is no dedicated healer, while most characters can get or start with a healing ability, once you unlock more, you can switch it out, to which you will then need to rely on potions.

each character seems to fall into a dedicated roll, and trying to stray from that can be damming. for instance if you run in with your rogue, and try to solo everything, you better get real used to your potion button. as well if your trying to range with your barbarian, your going to be spending a good while on every fight. my advice is to run through the first level with each character and find what you like.

If you are playing solo, or in quick play its also important to find yourself a backup character, this is because in coop, there cant be multiples of the same characters. so no army of dwarves as fun as that will be. but also that means if your main is a popular character, you will find it harder to get into lobbies with them.

the story is not extremely long, and after finishing it, you will just be running through levels again on harder difficulty's, trying to get more loot. imagine this game with the left 4 dead, level replay, and the diablo loot system.

each run is about the same. there are 3 acts that you run through, most have puzzles, a few mini bosses, and a major boss at the end. the last act is normally the shortest and has the final boss in that act waiting. now the first few are just going to be goblins, orcs, trolls, ect. on repeat. but once you start getting to the later levels, the bosses really start to own the show, unfortunately the minions tend to all go down the same, there is very few tactical stratagems to the combat. while there are only 7 chapters, they can all be run through in a few hours, and that with exploring every inch of the levels.

multiple times in each level, after larger fights are finished you will be offered a short rest, where you can get fully healed, and your potions restocked, but at the cost of your loot getting worse. honestly i never needed to use this feature, even on harder difficulty's, if you just drink your potions before opening a small chest, you stay stocked pretty well.

the developers have already said there will be supporting the game with future content, while they said there will be no micro transactions in the game, and free story updates, there is always the possibility of paid content in the future as well.

in closing the game runs bad, but has great potential. the $40 usd price point makes the blow a bit softer, but doesn't make up for the headaches given through all the hours put in. i hope to see more d&d games coming out in the future, as there are millions of story's to be told & re-told.

it should off stayed longer in the oven, and fixed a lot of bad bugs.

Back in the day, before video games were a thing, everybody used to play Dungeons & Dragons passionately the same way gamers do with video games today, and back then all you had was a set of dice, a few plastic figures and a piece of cardboard. Video games were meant to be the future of fantasy role playing games, but in this case, D&D Dark Alliance was a STEP BACK in evolution! You're far better off playing real D&D with dice, plastic and cardboard! If there ever existed a D&D Tiger handheld game, I bet even that would be better than D&D Dark Alliance.

This is one of the few games recently that I've felt so 'meh' about.
Parts of D&D: Dark Alliance feel okay, and others are severely lacking.

It felt fine early on, then felt a lot better when I opened up more moves and made very effective use of the stamina/parry system, but then it really started to become tedious. To the point that my friend and I just ran past enemies in the last couple levels because we really couldn't be bothered.

The 'RPG' system is incredibly shallow. Stats mean very little, set bonuses are completely unbalanced, and there is very little combo or skill variety if you wish to be effective. There is also no incentive to grind for loot, which is unfortunate in a lotter hack-and-slash game. There is no end-game content upon defeating the final boss. So any better loot is just used to kill the final boss faster, which was already a simple task.

There were a few bugs encountered here and there, the worst offender being a bug that would not send a player back to camp or progress their mission, which resulted in losing their loot and having to redo the same mission to progress the story.

All-in-all Dark Alliance is what I would classify as incredibly 'meh.' The dull combat, little incentive to grind for loot, and shallow RPG mechanics make for an experience that, while fun early, becomes dull at a rapid pace.

If you can get it on sale for pretty cheap with a friend or two, it might be good for some giggles.

Dark Alliance is a disappointingly run-of-the-mill action RPG whose most distinctive features are bugs and connection issues. Solid combat and levelling systems are not enough to outweigh repetitive, boring environments and the lack of decent endgame content. [09/2021, p.44]

Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance is a blemish on a franchise that is always fondly remembered by its fan base. None of its features is up to the series and doesn't even allow us to fulfill the role-playing fantasies that Dungeons & Dragons has given us for so many decades.
