Short version: This is not worth buying until they pull their heads out of their posteriors and fix some of the major bugs.

Long Version: This removes or rebalances pretty much everything in the original. The changes are a mixed bag in my book. Detail below.

    + No hacked characters/items.
+ More balanced loot system (no longer are there more drops in a wave than the max item count, item loot is now specific to each player and tends to be of a useful type for the character being played).
    + New mobility mechanics.
+ Eggs for pets and more interesting pet progression.
    + Consumable items.
    + Reasonable currency system.

+/- Visible equipment is nice, but a way to turn it off would be nice too. At least the head slot. The items in this game are wild, zany and garishly colored. I shouldn't have to spend all of my money trying to keep my equipment dyed to non-eye-melting colors while I'm leveling.
+/- Weapon swapping coming to all classes is nice. But this robs some of the individuality from the classes that already could.

    - Playverse. Buggy as all get out (still haven't had a party work).
    - Steam features almost entirely disabled! I can't stress this enough, your Steam friends or groups CANNOT be invited to a game, nor can they join one. Hideously massive step backwards.
    - At first there was NO private play, now there is crappy private play. Still no private taverns. For those new to the game, the tavern is something like your home base. Now you have dozens of people running around your home with interesting names like P00pface or Shartnado doing stupid crap and generally just being as annoying as they can.
    - Convoluted menu. It took me multiple sessions to figure out how to upgrade an item (used to be blatantly obvious). It seems to be impossible now to mouse over the effects on items to get a tooltip description of what the heck they do. Coupled with the icons being changed, this means I don't know what about 30% of the effects on my equipment does. I can see how many ranks the effect has, just not what it is.
    - For absolutely no apparent reason, the character creation system was almost entirely removed. Now you start with four pre-made characters with great names like Squire112. It is possible to make more, but feature poor and a bit buggy.
    - As most everyone else has stated, the classes have been rebalanced and not always in a good way. The summoner used to be a good class on its own and a great class in a team because its defenses were both mobile (slowly) and used a different unit cap than all of the other heroes. It was wise to have one on a team. The tradeoff was its inability to actually fight. Now they share the same unit cap, their units seem weaker, and they still can't fight. Total nerf. The monk was classified as an expert class and was a slow starting powerhouse. Now starts slow and goes nowhere.
    - I'm not sure if this is just perception, but everything seems to be slower. Like you are playing the game while wading in honey. This feeling robs all of the excitement out of the game for me.
    - The store page puts much merit in the fact it has all of the original DLC at no extra charge. I counter with the argument that you could buy the complete pack of the original with all of the DLC for about the same cost as the base price of this version (not the sale or upgrade prices).
    - Microtransactions, even though for now they are purely cosmetic, are never a good sign in a buy to play game.

Do NOT buy this game. This is a complete ripoff, the devs call it a 'definitive' version of the original game. It is NOT, in ANY way, better than the original. They took the mobile port and ported it back. Really?

This game looks like its in early pre-alpha state. Constant server problems, connection problems, terrible menus, half of its features disabled, horrible balance problems.

    That's pretty much it.
    Bad things:
Most of the classes nerfed do the ground. Summoner... just forget about it. Its no longer uses its own defense units and its units is terrible now compared to harpoons. Monk has its auras radius completely nerfed and because of only that they are very weak waste of defense units.
    Balance issues:
    1) DPS heroes - while physical damage is total crap, towers do about 100k dps at level 60 (which is max level now by the way), elemental damage heroes can do... 2 million dps at level 20. Yeah...
    2) Survival - developers decided to rebalance it by... making it a single wave, so you cant swap heroes. Complete trash mode which also had no pet rewards. So one of the nice features of DD1 - combining different defenses, just got removed.
    3) Bosses - completely not tested and impossible to kill sometimes.
    4) Crafting - you get this blueprints dropped occasionally. Which require some crafting parts to craft that drops from chests. And from 50 hours of playing it I never saw a single one item that worth wasting them. Its like a regular dumpster drop that just requires you to waste some materials to be able to get it. Complete worthless addition to the game.
    5) Challenges - no point of doing them now. No rewards, no drops, not even experience from mobs. Nice change trendy, nice change indeed.
    6) Vywerns is a nightmare now. If it started to hit crystal/tower, its invincible to half of your towers because they just cant hit it.
    7) Dark elves warriors - not affected by slow auras, ignore towers, they will kill you and then kill your towers from behind. Good luck loosing the map because one elve just destroyed all the towers

No nightmare, no challenges, no hardcore, no pure strategy, no enjoyable survival, no levels past 60, complete rebalance of gear that feels terrible and unbalanced right now. Survival on insane is simply impossible now at level 60 because it requires to combining buffs and auras and different towers and dps hero, but you cant do this. Maybe if you abuse the completely overpowered elemental damage hero with 20 million damage you can hold one line while second is hold by different hero's towers.

First couple of days game had no single player. Now it has no private tavern and single player is completely loosing to multi player, because with every other player has its own mana chests and can actually use other hero, wow!

Game performance is terrible. New shadows make game have 15-20 fps on my i7-4770k/16 GB/GTX660 PC.

Servers is constantly lagging. If you played Path of Exile - you find something very very similar here. Client-server desynchronization. Constantly. Servers can be offline, you cant launch the game, you cant join tavern, you cant load level, you cant even start the level sometimes. If you are actually playing it - consider yourself lucky. Or not, because you wasted your money on this dumpster game that should be tested for another year before the release.

The only hope left is patches. I suggest you to wait for a year and try this game later. Maybe developers will fix this horrible problems so the game will actually be playable.

Dungeon Defenders 1.5 aka Eternity, I assumed some new features, better balance, smoother menus, at least something that should make this better than Dungeon Defenders 1.
Instead we got even worse balance, more complicated menus and less features (like split-screen, which i miss the most of them)
It got a new DRM as its always on now. tl;dr + most of the dd1 content + better

It is a terrible rehash of DD. An straight port of a cellphone game where you are required to login into a third party service that is always online. That means no LAN support, no local COOP, there is also, in a mobile gaming fashion, a cash shop in what is now a global tavern, right now it serves vanity items only but who knows what the future will bring.

As such the graphics are no better than the original DD, and even when Trendy calls this the definitive version, they left some of the original DLC out, so it also has less content.

Upon release there was no single player mode, something that was quickly added back due to try and curb what has been a massive backlash from gamers and fans alike. Citing monetary concerns Trendy explained that it wasn't added on release to keep the servers' running costs low, which brings me to the final negative point.

What you download from Steam is but a tiny client to login to their Playverse service, a thing that is not that different from GFWL, Uplay or Origin; after you have logged into Playverse then you will be have to stream the game itself into your local computer. As a matter of comparison, the original game is more than 8gb installed whereas in DDE what you download from Steam is 50mb. Take that in mind as you pay for a watered down version of DD that is 100% reliant on Trendy's servers, it's hard to think you will still be able to access the game in a year or two, when Trendy release DD2, for which DDE is basically a platform test.

Trendy is not in the best shape right now having to lay off 20% of their staff recently, citing monetary concerns in server costs to not have single player available at launch, what guarantee there is they will not be closing doors soon and/or will stop support for DDE when DD2 is released?

If after all this you still decide to try it, what positives there are?? Well, the single thing that most DD players wanted, server side item generation, that means cheating and hacked items will be minimal on this iteration of the game. Is that enough for you to pay the price of 0 ownership of a watered version of the game?? That decision is up to you.

I don't understand developers. I thought that new game will be more clear. I was wrong. They added som crap, like useless abilities. Some things work as they shouldn't. It's still hard to understand why one thing is better than other.
Spiders don't catch you in a web. Ninjas became real killers, they void towers and despatch you with few hits.
As you remember, it was hard to get good

The players that have spent hundreds of hours farming and leveling and practicing with these mechanics. I am one of these people. But I also like the new release. Dungeon Defenders Eternity may be having issues getting started, but I also see more good changes than bad. I believe many Dungeon Defenders players feel like they have been forgotten or insulted by this new game. Not many people will admit to this, it is easier to get behind a bad rumor or the first negative aspect someone may find after playing a few minutes of the game. Jumping on a bandwagon is easier than trying to decide for oneself. The Dungeon Defenders players are not unjustified, this will change the game, which is something they have grown to love. No Dungeon Defenders players will be thrown under the bus because of this new game. Some people will like the old version and some people may like the new one. Things aren't as bad as they seem.

I don't know why some people dislike this game so much. Players that allready own DD1 get it for only 4.99 €. + it has either removed/added or replaced everything that was wrong with DD1.

DDE has all the addons that you would normally have to pay for.

And it is not true that you can't play alone with your friends. You're able to make a private group that will only allow the group members to join your games.

Giving it 10/10 because in my oppinion. It fixes and balances EVERYTHING that was wrong with DD1

    Pros

    - Way more balanced than DD1 ever will be
    - Way better loot system
    - New abilities
    - Game is updated regurlarly
    - Hacked gear + cheats reduced to a minimum because of Online only
    - Proper Currency
    - Crafting System
    - Gear is displayed on characters (Believe me when I say, that this is one of the most wanted features for DD1)
    - You can dye your gear

    Cons

    - New UI (Takes some time getting used to. But this is more of a personal preference)
    - Shared Tavern (works like a lobby, in DD1 players would have their own.) Though it isn't as bad when you first get the hang of it

Don't get me wrong, a 6 is not that high of a score for an awesome game.
I loved the original dungeon defenders, more like i DEVOURED it.
and I like what they did with the maps and the new active abilities here. the only real problem, and this destroys the game... like it is now you are barely able to EVER log in. you just can't join the server, 16 people are trying to join together

that is UNACCEPTABLE for an online game.
I know this game is very early release and that errors like this can happen. Even huge games like LoL and Dota suffer from it from time to time.
But as it stands now a 6 is giving it a lot already, even hesitating to put it down to 5.
I will adapt this once the devs do something about the waittimes. I really want to like this game and I see huge potential!!

Great game, already put in 45 hours. Never played the original, but this is really easy to pick up and learn.
The forced online play is acceptable, because that's the only way to stop these *nerd* hackers. The coöp is very fun, as of now I finished the first campaign on insane, the second is alot harder so I've got something to work towards. Must buy, currently 25% off, value for money is great.

I got this game on day 1 despite the flood of negative reviews on Steam. Seeing as how there was no open beta or early access available for it (I follow a number of alpha/beta gaming sites), I assumed it would be riddled with bugs but I honestly had no idea it would get this far out of hand. Here's the scoop:

When the game launched it was missing some features that never should have been omitted, but Trendy backtracked and added private sessions while fixing/minimizing several issues with Playverse (always-online system to prevent hacking and cause absurd amounts of lag). From launch through August 7th they made a plethora of balance tweaks and changes to start bringing the game up to par, and my score for the review reflects both their effort and the fact that the game was launched as a "definitive version" with game-breaking bugs and poorly tested features.

On August 13th, patch 3.4 was a disaster of epic proportion. Up until this patch, it was known that one map dropped gear that was vastly superior to anything else in the game but players were also led to believe that the previous patch had corrected this and that what was dropping now was legitimate. Not only was this untrue, but all of the gear players had farmed from this map was retroactively nerfed and they were given a small quantity of in-game currency for their troubles. However, the best part is that the nerfed gear is still miles better than anything that can be obtained in the game, so new players are hung out to dry while players that farmed the map now have gear that's impossible to get.

I'm sure they'll get around to fixing all of this eventually, but my recommendation is:

TL;DR - Don't buy the game, but keep an eye on the DDE forums to see if something good happens. Right now there's a lot of hate and disappointment but that could change with a single patch.

Dungeon Defenders Eternity is not so much an enhanced edition but rather an amusing different take on the same concept.
