Personally, I haven't played any of their games yet; they have a bit of a reputation for having easy games that are glitchy. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good easy game, but glitchy to the point that the game is broken is a turnoff. That doesn't mean I won't give it a chance; it just means I will put it on hold longer as it could still be fun; you never know what you may enjoy unless you try it. Drone Gladiator falls into the glitchy broken pile but has potential if fixed.
What do I mean by this? I mean, the game is broken and glitchy, that's a fact, but there is a fun game here if we take away all bad stuff, plus easy achievements. This is true with anything, but I find it true here more than any other game. Before I go any further, I played the Windows 10 version of the game, but I have played others, and I know Windows 10 has its problems compared to Steam, but not this bad.
Drone Gladiator is a wave-based combat game where players must survive as many waves as they can before dying. Before each round, players can customise what weapons they will have on each arm and the other five modules, ranging from shields and rockets to buffs. At the start, players can choose from one melee and one ranged weapon, but the further they progress through the waves, the stronger the weapons they can use. This doesn't mean it must be one on each arm, but I would recommend it as the option is there. The latter waves can get a tad hectic, making a melee weapon good to get out of tight binds.
Navigating the menus in Drone Gladiator was painful and cumbersome. Whenever I made an input, I felt like I had to wait for a few seconds before it actually registered, or it would go to the wrong section as I needed to use the d-pad, and I couldn't tell what I was selecting. Usually, I would think this was the controller, but I played some other games with it, and it worked fine. Plus, I tried every combination and couldn't seem to work the game with a keyboard, not sure if that was me, though.
The gameplay was enjoyable in the it-is-easy-and-cheap kind of way, and sure, the gameplay was basic, but there was a charm in the combat; not I could play this for days, but more like this will be fun for 30 minutes charm if that makes sense. If it wasn't for the game's laggy nature or glitches, I could see myself actually seeing how long I lasted, but after getting to wave 14 and somehow being thrown off the arena, I gave up and stopped playing.
Sadly, there isn't much else to this game besides having easy achievements and a cheap price. If this game wasn't as glitchy as it was on Windows 10, I would recommend it as a sweet short game, but considering it is, I can't recommend it on Windows 10; maybe the Steam version is better, but I have no way of knowing. For those that are wondering, all the achievements can be earned in 30ish minutes without trying. Heck, I didn't even know what they were and earned all, but one because of me being thrown off the arena.
Added bonus to hunters, the game received a new update which added another easy 1000. I am not sure if anything was fixed in the new update, besides new achievements, but if you need another boost to that score, then why not.
Drone Gladiator isn’t the worst game I have played, but it also isn’t the best. Once players achieve all the achievements, the game is pretty much over and now thinking about if it had more; then replayability would increase.
Drone Gladiator isn’t going to be to everyone’s taste, but if you are looking for something relatively fun and easy to get into then look no further than Drone Gladiator as it is the crown jewel of easy gamerscore and it is cheap too which is a win-win in my books.
Drone Gladiator is available on PC through Steam or Windows 10.
