    This game is is a masterpiece, never before this had i played a 3d game with not only such a large number of decisions to make every step of the way, but also to give so much meaning, and purpose to so many of those decisions, i was blown away.

    Its also worth mentioning that i did not like tactical combat at all until dao.     Its still not my preferred combat type, however dao had this like **** 3rd person mode they put there (likely for idiots like me) to sort of ease them into things.
    you can play 3rd person, then the more your ambition grows, the more the game cranks things up to make tactical combat more, and more essential.

    Game is sitting here with a 8.8us as of writing this, despite that being a great score, i still feel the game is largely underrated.
    If i had to guess it must have to do with when it was released, from what i remember most people i talked with just where not interested in a crazy deep rpg, with lots of dialog choices.
    For sure some people loved the game a ton, but things seem different now, and i think many more people could be interested in something like this now days.

    Even all these years later i could not find a similar game until bg3.
    Looking at the reception of bg3, also makes me feel like things are a bit different now, and many more people would be interested in a game like this.

    I hope when people finish their bg3 playthroughs, and look everywhere for something to scratch the same itch that they find this game, and consider giving it a try.

    I know maybe its like "bro, i thought this is a review about dao, why are you talking about bg3?"
    It's because the games are so incredibly similar in more ways than i could count.
    To list a few similar things they do as an example.

    movement & controlling the game.
    super custom playthroughs each time.
    brutal world.
    blood gets sprayed all over characters, and stays in cs.
    Fancy hidden auras you could obtain, that give special effects.
    very funny banter between companions, especially if they are very different from each other.
    notes, and books to read for lore, and reveal secrets in the world.
    Worlds setting.

    I can't recommend it more highly, and hope many more people can enjoy this great game in the years to come.

    -also it seems essential to include some kind of warning as well that da2, and da3(inquisition) like them, or hate them are really nothing like dao, and more comparable to a generic action game.    … Expand

    Despite the frustrations of playing and the simplicity of the story, Dragon Age manages to build a great narrative and a compelling world.

    Very good history and very good game, with the essence of the BG saga. It lacks more classes and deeper mechanics for customization your avatar and your in-game style.

    Just everything feels right!

    Played as human, royal lady and married Alistair at the end haha

    no joke, story, romance part, even fighting siystem was nice (bcs i used the tactic one bcs i dont like action system)

    storywise one of the best games i played, one of my most fav games

    Best game of the series and of its genre. Nobody has done it better yet. Baldur's Gate 3 is a joke compared to this game.

    Still one of the all time great role playing games. Choices have an effect on what occurs throughout the story, and the gameplay is also challenging, but still fun. It's too bad there's never been a better Dragon Age since.

    Lo he vuelto a jugar hoy en 2023 y aunque se nota que algunas cosas no han envejecido muy bien, el juego sigue siendo un espectáculo, el diseño de mapas, el árbol de habilidades, la estrategia en como enfrentar los combates, sobre todo la historia y sus ramificaciones posibles en base a las decisiones, es todavía un disfrute al día de hoy.

Two of the companions in this game rank among the best ever RPG companions and the central narrative is engaging. The whole origin mechanic is incredible, its woven in so seamlessly you wouldn't notice if any was the only origin. It also packs a DLCThe quality of the RPG is absurd.     This game is extremely EPIC, one of the best RPGs you can play, the story is just wonderful and the characters are well written and fun aswell. Also the world is very beautiful too. One other wonderful thing about this game is the level up system, as you can unlock epic abilities, you can even become a giant spider or bear and maul the enemies.     My favourite RGP of all time. Worth playing in 2023 still. If you like classic RPG where you control and micro manage a party of fantasy heroes this game is a must play

    One of Bioware's top 4 games I've played - ME Trilogy and DA: Origins. Everything after that is not bad but they haven't been able to get the same great writers for their games.

    I still have great childhood memories of this game and i wish i could go back in time and play it for the first time, that is how good it is. From the background story to the decisions you make, each playthrough can be very unique. The story, the maps, everything is gorgeous and make you feel immersed. This is one of the greatest, most immersive RPG of all times.     it is still very hard so if you are new to these games try the Easy difficulty.
    - Amazing Characters - Good Combat / kinda like WoW - Really cool armor and weapons - Great dialogue - Really cool for roleplaying - 6 movie worthy starts with three races (each of them could be its own game) The Awakening DLC was really    One of the best cRPG games of all time, maybe even the best.

    I really like the characters and main story, but the combat and level design is just not good in my opinion. There were times where I just wanted to finish as fast as possible because I got so impatient of fighting 50 of the same enemies with really boring combat. Because of this I finished the game pretty fast, but the amount of choices you can make in this game is simply astonishing andI really like the characters and main story, but the combat and level design is just not good in my opinion.     In my opinion this game is still one of the best western RPG's around and deserves the same remaster treatment given to the Mass Effect trilogy. Combat and Graphics have definitely aged but the engrossing story and endearing characters you can help becoming attached to more than make up for it. Hoping BioWare can being back some of the magic for Dreadwolf.

    Best DA game from BioWare. Well written characters and incredible story, but gameplay is old. I hope in the future we may got remake of this beautiful game ❤

    Advantages: + Amazing story/lore + Great characters + Interesting abilities and skills, many different classes + Alot variability of playthrough Disadvantages: - Old gameplay - Many gray nondescript locations - Some of    Best DA game from BioWare.     The last great CRPG. While decried by CPRG fans as casualization of the genre, Dragon Age actually made it accessible without sacrificing the depth. The choice and consequences narrative is here, although not as extensive as in some games. The story is cliche but with a somewhat interesting universe and decent subplots. The characters are brilliant.

    The main thing that drags this game    The last great CRPG. While decried by CPRG fans as casualization of the genre, Dragon Age actually made it accessible without sacrificing the depth. The choice and consequences narrative is here, although not as extensive as in some games. The story is cliche but with a somewhat interesting universe and decent subplots. The characters are brilliant.

    The main thing that drags this game down is the combat. The combat itself is quite good. The classes are horribly balanced though. The encounters are too similar and are far, far too frequent. Combat should not be focused on THIS much in a CRPG game.

    That said, a solid effort by Bioware. The series would only decline from here though.    … Expand

    If you're into rpgs, or rather if you love roleplaying in general, there's really no need to waste time reading any reviews of this game. The same goes if you regard games like Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2 and the Baldurs Gate-series among the best computer games ever made. Because this game is everything a person like you look for in a game, and so much more. Be aware though, Dragon Age: Origins is not a revolution of the genre, rather it is an evolution, where Bioware has refined everything that made them into a formula as close to perfection as possible. Without a doubt one of the strongest Game of the year-candidates so far this year and a game we will remember with warm feelings many years to come.
