Better than the second game but much worse than the first. It's an average game in short. Even if I say it's better, I have to say that I liked it less than the second game.

DA:I is an interesting case, it is an RPG and they put in a lot of effort to try to establish the world and characters but at the same time, most characters are boring. The only memorable ones are Cole and Cullen, the latter from the first few games and maybe Dorian. The rest are just poorly created, the VA saves them a little bit but there's only so much you can do. The rest are just poorly created, the VA saves them a little bit but there's only so much you can do. I played a male Inquisitor and the females characters in the game are some of the most boring and poorly written stuff in the last decade. It's an insufferable lesbian, a token black character and an uglified 'butch' female compared to DA:2. Awful, I feel like the writers for the game are either gay men or far-left women, there is no chance there were straight staff in the writing room. They brought back Leliana and Morrigan which are from the first game and written infinitely better than the rest so there is that at least.

The world is an MMO, great main questline plus some decent side companion quests but outside of those, it's usually collect 10 herbs and find my mirror type of garbage. One massive positive are the locations and also the animations, those were 10/10, way ahead of most other games for its time. This game would become the Harbinger of woke in gaming as it has many of the SJW points that were so popular in 2010-2015 before it morphed into the current woke when Americans elected Trump and 'creatives' lost their mind. Considering the company (Bioware) has been going down since ME3, I fully expect them to bomb and lead to layoffs when going broke with DA:4 but we'll see. This is not a bad game but only do the main questline and the side characters and slay some dragons, the rest is MMO garbage and there is some woke, though not obnoxiously much, if you also like/hate that.

If you want a better continuation to the Dragon Age series than Dragon Age 2. You got what you came for. Only bad thing is, it's not as good as Origins...Nothing will be better than Origins. Also no blood mages as a specialization...and they cut a lot of stuff that was in previous games.

Combines elements of predecessors in a pretty unfortunate way: reminiscent feelings of Baldur's Gate, dialogue system of Mass Effect and an MMO open world. Story is pretty good, but can be skipped as just a setup for 4 which hopefully turns out great.

Frankly before playing that game I have read a lot of bad critics... and while most of them have the point, I would not describe Dragon Age Inquisition as a bad game, rather average game, which is not a success for AAA title. While it starts good, it seems varied and with a lot of high quality features, I cannot help but feel bored after some time. There is simply no motivation to go up to the end with enthusiasm, no mystery, not enugh of specific ambance making it a special experience.

DAI will not remain in the history of glorious creations, in no way it is comparable to the Witcher 3 or Dragon Age : Origins, still it is better than Dragon Age 2 for sure.

The story is kind of generic, little broken, but still could be followed, like an average TV series; there are some party members that I have found interesting (Solus, Cole), amusing (Varric, Dorian) or bizarre (Sera) ... and even though they are not on the level of characters from Mass Effect series or other CRPG's mentionned before, still they manage to get the job done on the limited level. During Covid-19 confinement that game managed to keep some pace of adventure, even with all its fedexes ... however with erosion of time the boredom outweights the limited storyline/background. Romances were kind of disappointingly boring, as was the supposed villain; too bad that the main one is hidden behind a DLC paywall. It can be noted that player has some impact on the gameworld, both to modify the ending and during gamplay (the main hub area of the player changes as she/he advances, side areas are also visibly impacted : it is good; on the other hand the stakes are not motivating so that in the end the changes seem meaningless. That brings us to the player character, which somehow has quite low charisma for a role that she/he is supposed to play; even Mass Effect Andromeda protagonist left me with more memories than generic paper-cut protagonist of DAI. In the end I simple did not care at all. In time the interest of player is just extinguished, despite of big beautiful gameworld and huge quantity of (mostly meaningless) dialogues done with good voice acting.

The areas are geographically varied and interesting to see, almost like in the Skyrim. Main issue here is maybe that they are kind of generic: we have seen that before in so many other games and the lore/sidequests hardly give the shiver to discover something particularly exciting and areas do not have that much of ambiance to keep interest beyond first several hours (compare that even to the ambiance of procedurally generated Diablo 2 !). I agree with argment concerning too big number of generic "fedex" and "collections" quests: in Witcher 3 at least it had some sens and applicability for Gwent cards and crafting schemas; here it is mostly collecting random stuff, which mostly gives some quantitative "powers" to advance the game or occasionally more or less redundant rare items. The delivery of lore in DAI was simply not interesting, despite apparent formal high quality content.

I see the big problem with limited gameplay options: the tactical camera mode is useless and broken, in the end of the day we just use autoattack all the time and not much of tactics can be applied (it is surely not as rich as DA:O or older Baldur's Gate games series). The choice of skills to use is very limited by game's own system, that boils down to the Action "RPG" type.

I liked the OST, loved Lace Harding voice acting (mostly because it is the same voice actress as Liara T'Soni), and found generally the game to be well done on technical level.

It remains a solid 6/10, diminished back to 5 because of hiding important main story stuff behind a DLC (EA style players trolling) ... not a legendary stuff, but not a totally bad stuff either.

    6. Charismatic and nefarious antagonist;
    7. You can judge your prisoners! I have waited for this feature to return since DAO:Awakening;
    8. There are interactions with environment for all types of classes - mage can create bridges, warrior can break the walls;
    9. Balanced choice of companions - we have 3 mages, 3 rogues and 3 warriors.

    Bad things:
    1. Stereotyped plot;
    2. Badly written and generally boring companions (with exceptional Cole and Solas);
    3. Bad romances. Seriously, even in DA2 romances were more exciting!
    4. Excruciatingly slow and boring combat;
    5. Huge empty spaces in all locations (ther reminded me of Mass Effect 1 - in a bad sense);
    6. Quests like "gather 30 flowers" - I would really like to look into eyes of man who thought smth like "yeah, it's great idea, players will enjoy this!"
    7. Bad design of locations - sometimes you have to go across half of the map to climb on a mountain, and no, you can't give your hero a target and click on it like "go there". Even in DA2 that was possible;
    8. Max level reached too fast.

Overall it was not a bad game. Not complete disaster (like I thought it would be when I first saw it). But still Bioware can do much better then this.

What you got instead, is an equally simple and bad 3rd person hack-and-slash solution, where all you have to do is keep pulling the trigger to attack and unleash your skills/spells, when they're refilled. That's it. No tactics, no skill based 3rd person action, it feels and plays like a mobile game, really.
And although everything looks interesting, I'd love to explore the world (there seems to be a LOT to do), I'm just bored by this unchallanging combat and lame looting.
Also, the levelling is too slow, and when you finally level up, all you get is ONE (1) skill point. Are you kidding me? Some FPS/non RPG games have more RPG elements than this game.

Bottom line: I really wanted to love this game, as I loved DA:O and also DA2 (yes, it was more simple, but I still liked it), I wanted to play a good fantasy RPG, but this just feels like a mobile-like, single player MMO.

I even prefer the gameplay from Dragon Age: Origins better than this one, it's stiff and weird. Dragon Age 2 improved on it alot, but while Inquisition tried to make it more action pact, that wasn't at all what it needed. The graphics in this game was quite good, but nothing special everyone just kinda looked the same for some reason and the expression weren't that good. All the romances and characters are boring except for Varric of course. Everyone is some whiney peasant, who needs your help for everything and oh lord the romances can get awkward. everyone is either gay or too weird. And why would anyone even bang some person who just jumped out of a portal claiming they say god or something like that. There is no origin or originality to the, main character. Just a boring and stale dude/chick. This game should have been writin better and had a longer development time. And the horses where really just (retarded) they ran so weird, that i didn't even use one through my playthrough. Boring and repetetive game overall Expand

The PC version of this game is really let down by an absolutely terrible interface. It exists in an uncanny valley between the first two games in the series, where rather than having improved the controls it instead has made a clunky mashup hybrid.

it's hard to describe what is wrong with this game. It's just an empty shell of a game. There is no soul to it what so ever. Everything feels empty and soulless from the story to its world to the gameplay. Even though the world is detailed and beautiful it still misses soul and life.

I thought DA-Origin was one legend of a game. I skipped DA2 because its really bad. Now to inquisition.

There is nothing important pushing you to want to play the game to know more. The combat feels limited there are not that many spells and ability for every character which makes the gameplay limited and repetitive.

Inquisition is sadly nothing on the same level. The only point where the game excels is the art and graphical design. The world is amazing, but much else is on poor to mediocre level. The worst is the combat system which is very boring on hard difficulty, there is mostly no challenge but on the other side combat takes forever because enemies have extremely high health pools. This is the reason why it did take me 100 h to finish the game (without DLC content) and because in general the experience was boring I had to take 2-3 years in breaks to find motivation.

In conclusion, inquisition is what you get when the marketing department says: make something that looks great and is simple to play on consoles, do everything else when there is time left in-between. Interestingly, this game got far better reviews than for example Fallout 76 which is a more interesting game. For me it is on the same low level as dragon age 2. However, when you are a fan of the dragon age world you can do not much wrong with the GOTY edition for 10€ on sale.

Another thing i really liked was the amount of choices in dialogue. Being able to control what your character says almost every time he/she speaks was nifty even if useless. The music is also phenomenal but seems to be rarely used to great effect and only really has any emotional impact right at the end of the game.

Where the game falls flat is with it's bad but playable Mouse and keyboard controls, useless Tactical Camera, War Table feeling like a tacked on mechanic to fool players into thinking there's more content then there really is, useless and unrewarding chores like finding crystals or connecting star constellations whenever you go to an open area to explore that makes doing anything but big side quests or the main quests feel tacked on or boring, and the inability to transfer previous game saves on pc which felt like a bad attempt at making the experience ever so slightly worse for pirates.

The only side activities i really enjoyed were the dives into the history of Thedas. Either the side quests that involved previous characters or just historical figures of thedas, or the walls of text that enlighten you about previous events in the world, that probably no one would read unless they really cared about the history or world of the game.

In the end it feels like a good game for anyone looking for a good story and some fun game-play but not for anyone looking for a classic RPG. I would love to see a Dragon Age Inquisition 2, but i also want a true sequel to Origins and Dragon Age 2

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have spent 314 hours of my life on this game playing every class and almost all the races (except Qunari). I am a huge fantasy fan and Dragon Age has one of the best lore foundations IMO (their interpretation of magic, dwarven culture, elven history, vast and intricate history of Thedas including the various religions etc. is just amazing!) This being said the game is the one thing it should never have been and that is average. I will list shortly the pros and cons and then give a short conclusion to why this game is heart-breaking.

    Pros:
+ Great lore still there although somewhat hidden or of less importance
+ Voice acting is pretty decent
+ Some weapons and armour looks cool although the variety is poor
+ Skyhold probably the coolest castle in any RPG I have seen although it’s not important in any way.
+ Mounts look cool although not very useful
+ Graphics is good especially the Emerald Graves (but by no means great)
+ Companions are much better than DA2, but not nearly as good as DAO, that being said it is light years better than any other non-Bioware RPG
+Dragon fights are cool and can be exciting (where is the dragon fight at Skyhold?)

    The Cons
    - One of the most boring combat systems I have ever played, even WoW is better.
    - The ridiculously small number of abilities that are tied to your attributes I mean it has at most 5 active abilities per tree and ~4 passives. WHY?!?
    - Gone are the days of personalizing your character, dexterous warrior, strength rogue, tank mage NO, now you must follow a simple tree. IMO you could just leave your companions to auto level up.
    - The game's balance is broken as an example the arcane knight can kill Hakkon Wintersbreath 1v1 on nightmare with Even Ground, Walk Softly, Rest Easy, and Rub Some Dirt on It trails active. While the warrior and the rogue cannot survive even one hit.
    - Its pacing is of and that negatively effects the story as you are constantly busy with side quests and don't feel the rush to do any main quests (and you must do side quests to complete main quests this ties in with next point)
    - I am a completionist and must finish and area before continuing to the next area and this is really challenging in the beginning (Hinterlands) but as you level it becomes tedious even with trails active.
-The collectables is irritating to a completionist and the amount of it is just ridiculous and why lock the coolest (dragon decor) behind Multiplayer or DLC.
-Controls and PC optimization is really bad
-AI can be infuriating and the tactical screen is useless, the AI do not obey basic commands
-I feel that a lot of good lore was disregarded for this Mage/Templar war, it’s not bad, but come on, they trampled on the Wardens, making them into scared puppets.
    - It has a bad replayability as your choices are actually inconsequential so the only reason you will replay it is to try different races and classes and even that does not make a big difference as in DAO and then the grinding on top of all this just kills all motivation there was to do it.
    - The DLC’s are average and they feel like they could have been added to the base game (except Trespasser), some areas in the base game (hissing wastes, Storm coast etc.) have no real impact on story just like DLC and are only there to farm for Power and to lengthen the game.
-Lastly and most damning, who is this game made for, kids? It has sex violence and all the other goodies, but its gameplay is for dummies (it literally has no learning curve), gone are the dark or gritty dialogue options (killing all the elves in DAO as an example) and the story is predicable with no real branching of narratives just one big grind fest.

In conclusion the third instalment of my favourite fantasy RPG series has truly disappointed me. It is by no means a bad game in fact in 2014 it was probably the best RPG, but that's not saying much when the competition was that bad. I will probably never come back to play this game, which is sad because I have over a 1000 hours in DAO and still play it. Most worrying of all is that recently (2018 I think?) EA announced that they feel that single player games are dying and DA:I is proof of their mentality in 2014 already!! It is a MMORPG in an action-RPG skin. I have no problem with Action RPG's not everyone likes games like Divinity: Original Sin 2, but this game is neither. It tries to be tactical but is not and the “action” is boring. This game has made me worried that all companies will follow this trend of reaching for a wider audience (dumbing down) and creating larger and longer games that feel emptier and more tedious (Shadow of War). Lastly a good game is not measured in the game’s length or size or graphics, but in how emotionally attached you become to the world and its story, characters etc. and in this regard the game fails spectacularly.

The main culprits here are the overwhelming number of side quests and "items" you can collect... it may not be to far to say this game is more of a collect-a-thon than and RPG as it certainly does not discourage one from playing it that way. I found (after a second playthrough) that I enjoyed the game a lot more when I focused on things that actually drew me rather than just chasing every tick that lights up[ on my mini map but there is still this sense that a lot of the side quests, not matter how unique, seems incredibly hollow and almost pointless... if it were not for "its for the war and inquisition etc."

*rant*The bards music is excellent but just like all Bioware games I've played so far the music is not compelling or interesting at all besides that one little do-dad that is played the whole game. The sound design is okay or decent but I just cannot take fighting a dragon as seriously when nothing is playing in the background or if it is just like "do dedede dumdum doooooo dooooo dum dum" but I also cant hear it and it jsut stops sometimes. I heard there were issues trying to use the Frostbyte engine to develop the necessary systems, and it does show in some places if you look hard enough, but this is still an underutilized catagory imo. I will give them that the quality of the music is good but it just does not work with the rest of the game.*endrant*

Overall, I found this game provides a lot more good than bad although one might need to discipline themselves in order to avoid over-stimulation and boredom.

I came to this game wondering whether Bioware would return to form and make something good - it's been a while since they release anything worth having and for me Inquisition represented the last time I would shell out for one of their games.

Glad I did - it's absolutely a triumph and it would appear Bioware have found some of their old spark again. The scope is epic and the atmosphere

Glad I did - it's absolutely a triumph and it would appear Bioware have found some of their old spark again. The scope is epic and the atmosphere and story is great. There's always stuff to do and if you get bored doing one activity you have move off and do something else for a while. They seem to have borrowed a bit from Skyrim - though that is hardly a bad thing.

There seems to be a lot of mmo mechanics in there and collection type questions but all in all it comes off well. The visuals are great and the music is brilliant. Characters are engaging (for the most part) though they aren't as good as the companions in the Mass Effect Series.

Not much to complain about here - some activities can get a bit tedious but on the whole - really, really good game.

I have both pros and cons. There are small frustrations and big ones. I won't stay and write a lot of rows to be hard to read, so I'll try to make it as simple and personal as I can
    Pros:
    - The game looks absolutely beautiful. From the Coastal regions, to the Desert and The Hinterlands, this is one of the most beautiful games I've played in recent memory. They have put so much attention to detail and created atmospheric places, in response to DA2's style.
    - The Inquisitor has been given a bigger and better overhaul in personality and dialogue and options than its predecesors. There are few times when the dialogue seems tiring or rushed out. I loved how many branching paths you have in your relationships.
    - The gear is quite diverse and good looking (well, except staffs mostly)
    - The animations are better than expected.
    - Voicing is actually impressive and diverse.
    - The story is enjoyable, but I'm not sure I really enjoyed it as I enjoyed the first one's story. It was easier to catch up, yes, but at the same time, the quality in writing and main plot, it feels a little downgraded.
    - I actually liked most of the side quests I did. They were vast and not all of them were go there and give or kill that which didn't make me quit my game when the main plot made me burnout.
Cons: Here are some of my reasons why I gave this game, a 5.
    - The mounts are goddamn horrendous. The horse animation is so poor and its speed... and sometimes it is completely unresponsive.
    - WHY IS IT SO HARD TO CLIMB A BARELY CURVED VALLEY? The slipping is annoying at best. You have to destroy 2 keyboards in order to climb a small path to find something that shouldn't have been put somewhere you can't normally go.
    - Textures pop-up. It happened most of the time.
    - T H E L O A D I N G S C R E E N S A R E ------------------- UGH. First of all, I have no idea why they put those reading cards there if those go away in max 10 seconds ... and then... ANOTHER BLACK SCREEN LOADING. Like... Why didn't they leave the card loading screen instead of... Damn. THEN. It takes minutes to load. And I'm above the requirements with a lot. It took me 2 minutes once to be able to cross a small room and then, whoa, another loading screen. Damn EA. This broke the immersion for me. I didn't want to think that everytime there was a loading screen I had time to go eat something. Players shouldn't feel that way. You fkd up at this chapter. Badly.
    - TECHNICAL PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE. Few were the times when after a loading screen I would be able to keep playing because the game would freeze with sound still working or the screen would turn white, also with the sound on.
    - I had a lot of errors with DirectX and from what I read, you messed around with the engine and with even a little overheat or hiccup from the GPU, the game would crash.
    - Frame drops in most of the areas. While there wasn't a vast drop, it's noticeable.

All I want to say is that I love(d) Bioware more before when their games were actually made with heart and care. You'll notice immediately that the game is a port. It was primarily made for consoles which hurt the PC community. What I said here isn't necesarily good. It is good for the Bioware we actually know nowadays, not for the Bioware it once was. The voicing could've been better. The skills could've been done better. Somehow, it feels rushed. And the requirements are waaay overboard for how bad it was done, for PC. All in all, I had hopes... and they were crushed. And I am not saying it's bad. Not at all. It was handed poorly and it could've been way better.

If you think that you can overcome these deficiencies, you will be playing an uninpsiring, dull and anticlimatic story, it is in a beautiful setting though. Very limited gear to be found and a short level cap, 16-19 and you are ready for endgame. I reached level 27 clearing out a lot of really boring sidequests and end game was WAY to easy...BAD BALANCE IN GAME MECHANICS ASWELL...Im REALLY glad i bought ultimate edition at great discount years after the game came out so I did not waste that much money on the game. It has an open(ish) world, the scope of the plot is massive, the characters are varied and numerous, the world looks genuinely pretty. This game is supposedly a repudiation of the 'less is more' philosophy that had taken over RPG design and had even infected Dragon Age 2, at least that's what it wants you to think. The game is undeniably massive, and yet it's only briefly impressive.

A lot is thrown at you early on: you are literally the messiah, are made leader of an international peacekeeping organization, and you are shoved into a war room to plan your next moves; all of this within 30 minutes. By this point in Origins you would have maybe finished your origins mission and been recruited into the Grey Wardens, having only been introduced to the main plot of the story. In Inquisition, the pacing is all over the place. No sooner are you proclaimed to be the messiah than you are given menial chores to build up the Inquisition's strength. You'd think that skipping all of the buildup normally present in RPGs would make the game more epic, but you'd be vastly overestimating the competence of the people who wrote this story. The game is really about doing chores so the plot moves forward. I don't mean this facetiously, gathering pelts and rocks is what will get you the power points needed to pay for the main quest missions. It feels almost surreal to say that you have to pay for main quest missions with points in a single player game, but this is the sick experiment this poor game series has been forced to undergo. The result is a sparse main quest divided by hours of busywork, totally devoid of fun or passion.

The point where you discover the banality of the main quest is also where you realize that the game doesn't play any better as time goes on, either. Your skill set is very limited, and especially as a mage you'll be bored to death of what you're made to use over and over and over. Spamming is the essence of combat in this game. I guess there's a tactical camera in here, and a crafting system, and some collectibles you can find, but none of this matters or makes the game more enjoyable. The tactical camera gets caught on everything and is generally useless, crafting is a grind-fest, and the collectibles serve no purpose beyond torturing those obsessed with such things. The amount of filler content only adds to the drudgery, and the whole game suffers as a result. The characters could have been written to be more interesting, but instead they're just kind of there. Of course which character you're going to find likable in a game like this is subjective, but I I promise you that you won't find very many of them interesting. Indeed, the whole game is largely uninteresting. Once you've played long enough that the graphics cease to impress, there's not much else to keep you engaged.

So if Inquisition is a repudiation of the "less is more" design philosophy, then it seems to have gone too far. A good game should be an experience greater than the sum of it's parts, but Inquisition seems to have been designed around the idea of cramming in as many parts as possible to trick people into thinking that it's deep and interesting.

TL;DR - If you're the kind of person who values quality over quantity then you will not enjoy this game.

I'm not a superfan of Dragon Age to begin with. I played through DA:O and had fun, then let it go. The bad reviews for DA2 scared me away. So I didn't approach this game with any great expectations. I just hoped I would enjoy myself. Unfortunately, it feels like several individual teams made each element, and then smashed it all together.

It's lovely to look at, and absolutely full of deep lore and excellent voice acting. But it doesn't have a soul.

If you like doing meaningless side-quest, or grinding for poorly develop items, this game is for you. But to be honest, I was expecting something better, I believe they tried to make this game too big and get lost in the way. So, if you want to enjoy the game, just do the Main Quests with the Companions Side-quests.

And the bugs, I get a lot of crashing and my config. are goods. Or my companions doing nothing even if I "help" them (give direction). Or a quest where I had to find the Harlequin and it doesn't appeared ever. Oh well.

I was willing to give a 3/10, but I think the guys who work on this game doesn't deserved a 3/10. Maybe they were not ready for the release. Who knows.

My only hope for the future is : Please don't spoil Mass Effect.

    EDIT :
Well, now Mass Effect is out and it's not that good. :(

Also, I had to make a new game, because of a bug on DA:I. And I enjoyed my new play through, 2 years later. I think the hot fixes and all the patch make the game more playable. So I changed my note from 5 to 7/10.

    It's a good game.

Unfortunately, the tense energy of the first hour of gameplay doesn't persist much further beyond this point, and I found completing the game to be more of a chore than a goal worthy of pursuit.

First and foremost, the actual gameplay is enjoyable. The character build variety, the crafting and leveling systems are all fairly intuitive and easy to figure out. The drive to improve your gear and build persists throughout most of the game. And the combat is just plain fun - chaining together massive combos and dealing unreal damage as my Knight Enchanter Mage made me feel like I was in control of the battlefield at all times.

Second, the main story line is fairly well done and executed. The missions are varied, involving a variety of different locations, mission objectives and plot twists. But, for me, this is where the positives end, and the negatives begin.

The game's biggest problem is a lack of direction and creativity with the content outside of the main story line. Players find themselves constantly unlocking new zones to explore, and upon arrival, you're usually given the exact same smattering of quests to go find shards, close some rifts and kill a couple of elite enemies. Ten or 15 zones without much variety in how you must approach each zone.

And it's not like the side quests involve compelling characters, cut scenes or heart-wrenching decisions like you might get from a game like The Witcher 3. Instead, the character you meet are ultimately without character and rarely play a role in what's next for the Inquisitor.

Furthermore, although the main story line is mostly well done, I never felt a real sense of urgency. The final mission was completed within about 10 minutes and it felt like none of the decisions I made up to that point had any real impact on the ending. It was very different from a game like Mass Effect 2, where your ability to build trust with your companions not only impacts the ending but whether or not you (and they) survive. I felt no real motivation to get to know most of the companions outside of my core group, and at the end of the game, the extra companions weren't even involved in anything substantive.

Some of the DLC's are also underwhelming from a story perspective, featuring few cinematic cut scenes and little connection to the new environments.

Overall, DA: Inquisition may temporarily fill an RPG gaming void, but the feeling won't last much beyond the first 10-15 hours of gameplay.

This game is better than the 2nd and tries to address many of it's faults. It has large and varied locations, many of which are beautiful to behold. The combat has less button mashing and is closer to Origins, most of the characters are more interesting and engaging (though still nothing to shout about) and the plot feels more coherent.

However, there are many things that are still lacking. As mentioned above, though the characters and story are an improvement over DA2, as a story driven Bioware Rpg, they are still mostly sub-par. Some are cliched, some are shallow, some seem like they come out of a modern day sitcom. The script is uneven, as are their motivations and reactions to events.

The combat is the main problem though. Increased difficulty changes nothing about enemy variety, tactics or ability use. They simply have crap tons of health, meaning your tactics are exactly the same, just that the battles take longer and end up in a game over screen more often that on easier settings. Worse still, getting you characters to stay still and do what you say is horrible. If you don't turn off their AI they do some terribly stupid things, like running up to shoot people with bows point blank and getting caught in AoE attacks alongside the melee character currently engaging a foe. If you turn off their AI, you have to micro manage them and given that moving around the battle is atrocious due to the awfully fiddly camera and lack off high above view, this is a colossal chore. Worse still, even then they still sometimes ignore your commands. Put a mage and crossbowman on a high vantage point (to get skill tree bonuses) and guess what? They'll get down and move closer to the enemy based on it's movement, or they'll just stop shooting for no reason.

Enemies are moderately varied, but for a game this big, it wasn't that good. Speaking of big, the areas are very large and give a great sense of adventure, visually speaking, however most of the things to do involve collect items and going to placemarkers, Ubisoft style. It's bland and repetitive.

The crafting system seems like it had potential but there was very little variety to the properties you give weapons and armour and just getting the resources to do so is tedious.

I think it's worth mentioning that this game won awards in a particularly weak year for big, AAA games or popular franchises, particularly multi-platform games. Even then, it didn't win a particularly large amount of awards. I feel Alien Isolation (niche), Shadows of Mordor (new franchise), Bayonetta 2 (WiiU exclusive), Dark Souls 2(niche), Divinity Original Sin (kickstarter based turn based strat) and Mario Kart 8 (WiiU excl) were all far better games, and that's just off the top of my head. Some of them still won GOTY awards though, in preference to DA:I, in spite of their disadvantages compared to a mass-appeal, hugely hyped and marketed, multi-plat, 3rd game in a popular series.

I'm sure they'll make at least one more but I don't feel the need as I think this series has nothing left to offer in its current form and with its current direction. I also think it got inflated scores partly because people were so relieved it wasn't as awful as DA2, but I'm just guessing :)

In your first playthrough of Dragon Age: Inquisition seems like a good game. There's a great story Missy, but they are few! The plot of the game is extremely small, and the main villain empty. Almost the entire game consisted of running around the locations, the destruction of countless enemies, and performing boring tasks.
The game is very beautiful, and the world to explore nice. Nice to just walk around lakaly, but this is the first hour .Afterwards just tired. One of the main problems is the influence points. The game consists of a dull grind and a few good story missions.
The game has beautiful music that is pleasant to listen to. The characters are drawn beautifully, and a romantic line, some of them are really good, and sometimes reveals more of the character.
The problem is that the second time through the game do not want to. You will return the memories of the grind and you will not go further than the first location. Lore the game has moved on, and the story is sometimes really good, but the game immersed in the endless grind.

I even tried to edit the difficulty with the difficulty-mod at nexus but only effect is that the fights take a little bit longer due to more enemy health but your warrior still will tank just everything and cant be harmed.

Experiencing the real ending to the game requires the purchase of the Trespasser DLC. A good game whose world is almost too large for its purpose.
Total installed size on my hard-drive (GOTY edition with all DLC): 39.2 GB.

The story starts well. Fade-rifts are opening all over Thedas. Some creature known as Corypheus seeks to corrupt / gain the power of the land's ruling factions, gathering earthly power as he attempts to elevate himself to god-hood. Is he a demon? A magister? Or some new kind of darkspawn? One of his Fade-rites goes badly wrong, and the player-character gets spit out of a rift with some kind of magical mark on their hand. The Chantry's Divine was killed by the rite (or is she merely trapped in the Fade?), leaving behind confusion and angry factions pointing fingers. In the midst of this, Seeker Cassandra Pentaghast (from Dragon Age 2) initiates the Inquisition to close the breach in the sky left by Corypheus's rite and seek those who assisted him.

This all happens in the first hour or so of gameplay. BioWare created a fantastic setting of investigation, exploration, and expansion as the Inquisition becomes yours, to be built and used as you see fit. Large-scale faction missions (and unlocking new areas) are strategically plotted from the War Room. The Inquisitor builds his / her squad (up to 9 companions are possible), and can spend a large amount of time talking to them, helping them, and, yes, romancing them (some restrictions apply!). Some characters return from previous games. Varric and Cassandra are selectable squad-mates (both from Dragon Age II). Hawke is not a member of the party, but does join the Inquisitor for a mission. Leliana (from Origins) is an advisor, and has a large supporting role to play; Morrigan appears about half-way through. There are also call-backs to the previous games in other ways (with the right choices, the ruler of Ferelden will cameo!). It's all the good stuff we've come to expect from BioWare.

Much of Inquisition is spent exploring areas that are unlocked via the War Room in search of Power Points. There are deserts, lush forests, ice plains, and snowy mountains. The missions that fill these areas vary from helping a widow recover her wedding ring to seizing fortresses from Corypheus' Venatori. While out exploring, be sure to stop and loot any items you see to acquire “resources” - ore, gems, plants and schematics. You'll need them to craft upgrades. There is a lot of loot to be had – almost too much. After a while I just wanted to move on with the story. But that's impossible if not enough Power Points have been accumulated to unlock the next major mission. Some grinding is required.

Dragon Age Inquisition's combat is a refined version of Dragon Age II's: slick, swift, and action-focused, with little need to pause the game. I liked the combat of Dragon Age II much better than Origins, so to see it developed further was something I appreciated, but if you were a fan of the older system expect to be disappointed. Party AI is decent this time around. The Tactics menu itself has taken a severe hit, being smaller and with fewer options. If micro-managing the combat was never your thing, prepare to love the combat of Dragon Age: Inquisition. If you were longing for a return to the depth and detail of Origins, prepare to dislike Inquisition's combat – a lot.

On top of this, the final boss of the main campaign (sans DLC) just isn't that impressive. I was expecting the Inquisition's castle to be assaulted, and to fight hordes of demons (and perhaps also darkspawn) in the corridors, fighting up to the highest tower or lowest dungeon, to be greeted with the final boss. This does not happen. There's some teleportation involved, some cool magically shifting landscape, a three-stage battle, and – that's it. It's strangely anti-climatic. It's only after seeing the post-credits scene that we realize who the REAL threat is – but you'll need the Trespasser DLC to deal with them. After all that time spent gathering resources and steeling myself for the implications of the final boss, it is a deliberate fake-out by BioWare. The final boss is over so quickly, and the post-credits reveal occurs so suddenly that if you didn't purchase at least Trespasser, be ready to yell in rage at the obvious DLC-bait.

So Dragon Age: Inquisition is a mixed bag. I love long, grindy games if they're set in a gorgeous world with plenty of things to do. Inquisition delivers by the truck-load. The story is enjoyable, the characters a pleasure. The combat is an evolution of Dragon Age 2's, the final boss is disappointing, and you have to DLC the real ending. Get the Game of the Year Edition, it's the best bargain. Good, but not great; 7 out of 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

For what is, assuming DA:I wants to be a Michael Bay medieval film, it is a solid game that achieved what it intended. Big budget, flashy non-buggy gameplay, ‘epic’ scenes, and lots of fanservice. Asides open world, it achieved its goals, and thus it’s a solid game.

However as a Dragon Age game, which originally was based off much different roots, this strayed even farther off than DA2 and is very disappointing.

    PROS:

+Vivienne and Dorian are the most consistent written characters.

+ Races are back, plus qunari.

+ Frostbite Engine can make very beautiful environments at times

+ You can make good looking heros in the CC. If you avoid Tumblr and refer to real life photos that is.

+ The game tackles faith and belief, which is something you can roleplay your character.

+ For my hero, I was satisfied with his story, dialogue, and the mistakes he was forced to make

    ++ Astariums

    +++ Loghain wasn’t butchered.

    CONS

    - Bad writing couldn’t rescue the save the world plot

    - A very bland open world was the cause of this

    - And Sera too, probably.

    - Alistair’s face is forever mauled.

    - Many other things others have nitpicked.

Overall, as a standalone game it delievred what it aimed.

But as Dragon Age game, this has shown how little of the old Bioware remains.

Read the GlassDoor reviews and you will understand why its old self will never come back.

    C grade, overall.

This would have been okay, but because they didn't let us fix it like we could with Skyrim, the game was not as salvageable. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is probably the worst designed good game I've ever played. I mean, the game is, in itself, quite nice. The main story is decent, the world is wonderful, the war table-mechanic is fantastic and certain parts of the game is breath takingingly beautiful and extraordinarily thrilling.
But the design of the game is terrible. Why on earth did BioWare have the idea to force your character to make a two second animation every. Single. Time. That you loot something. In a game in which you loot thousands and thousands of stuff. In the second game, you automatically recieved all the loot after the fight.
The AI is clunky as hell. Your companions will spend most of their time standing right in front of you in doorways.
There's plenty of clipping issues as well. Unreachable loot, enemies disappearing and reappearing, etc.
There's always rocks in your way that neither your character nor your horse-like-animal are able to run through or above, forcing you to slow down your pace.
The game is open world, but a lot of time there's only one way to reach the things you're after, which means that the open world mechanic is there simply to force you to spend more time searching for the right way.
The fighting is sooo slooow. It's not really hard, but everything takes forever to die.
The characters move clumsily, meaning navigating in close quarters just feel weird.
And, on a more personal note, I dislike most of the companions (exceptions: Varric and Iron Bull, and Dorian a bit). They're whiny and annoying. In DA:O, the companions where mostly awesome (exception: Sten) and in the second game even the annoying companions had good storylines, dealing with real issues. But in this game you feel too disconnected from your friends. Not even Leliana retains her charm and spirit from the first game.

This game was obviously made for console, which is sad because I'm still having fun playing it. But it could have been so much better. I loved the first game, and I liked the second. But this is nowhere near as good as them and nowhere near as good as it could have been if it just hadn't been so clumsily designed.

    Slightly above mediocrity, essentially.
The bad is that the choices, well, are there really choices? And this system of "pick from 3 vague hints and maybe you'll get something related" is getting old.
And where are the excellent characters from before? They even managed to make Morrigan boring...

The combat is fun, but forget tactical. It should be pretty obvious to anyone in game dev that "action" RPGs with skills that depend on positioning NEVER work for anything remotely tactical. Just becomes luck and grinding.

That said, some techniques made combat enjoyable enough, if you didn't take it seriously..
But this meant that all character building and levelling was essentially meaningless. And the difficulty must be horribly scaled: even trying to use some cheats to level more SLOWLY, I managed to outlevel the final boss by too much and had way too many resources without even trying.

Then comes to the rest. Grinding throughout the world was enjoyable sometimes, just boring most of the time. So many archaic mechanics, like not being able to auto loot everything around you, made the game even more of a chore.

I did spend more than a 100 hours of it, so I admit it's not terrible. But there's no excuse for it not being better. And this way, I can't recommend anyone actually paying for this.

The game is certainly one of the better Bioware efforts. Large world, much to explore, if you're into that kind of stuff and some interesting characters.

Three reasons, why I don't rate this any higher.

This doesn't even try to give the appearance of being ported to PC. It's just playable on PC. Slapped on. Smoothly, I give them that. But if you haven't got a controler to hook up, you're in for some fingerbreaking experiences. I am among the lucky ones, owning an Xbox controler, which I haven't hooked up for several years. So I can enjoy my game, but this isn't any excuse for the shoddiest port I've ever seen. I tried to play it with keyboard and mouse, as I'm used to, but that's hard labor and not at all an ejoyable experience. Folks, nothing wrong with designing for consoles, but if you want to cater to PC also, take care of the controls and the UI. This is abysmal.

Second minus is combat. I much rather play my games relaxed and don't care much about combat difficulty. But this is even too easy for my tastes. It boils down to button mashing. Nothing else involved. The major thing, you have to look for, is friendly fire. It does much more damage to your party than the enemies. So I turned it off, since my party killing their own, doesn't add to the absent challenge anyway.

Third minus, as is usual with every game today, are the FedEx quests. It's not my biggest gripe, since it happens all over the board, with every game. As opposed to others, I don't even find it boring, since I always had a collector instinct in games. These quests give you some reasons to explore the maps and there's almost always some interesting loot involved. Minus nonetheless, since it shouldn't be an excuse to not include at least some challenging quests.

So, it's a 7 for me. An enjoyable experience, given that I have a controler. It would be much less, if I was stuck with keyboard and mouse. This, for me, is the cardinal sin on the PC platform.

THE GOOD: You'll never run out of things to do. There's plenty of fairly interesting side quests and lots of lore to be discovered. The graphics are also pretty amazing, and the lip sync is fairly good. If played with a controller (you SERIOUSLY should), the gameplay feels natural and intuitive. The soundtrack is GREAT.

THE BAD: After playing DA: Origins, it's impossible not to find almost every character in this game utterly irrelevant. The story is ok, but has some REVOLTING moments, in which the best parts of an adventure or the toughest bosses are defeated in a CUTSCENE, without a hint of a fight. The graphics are gorgeous but the action during the cutscenes feels unbelievably weird and unnatural, as if it all were some badly rehearsed play. I find the game completely unplayable without the faster looting mod, and I have to say they really messed up the looting system. The "hack and slash" combat is not very rewarding and the tactical camera is basically useless. The voice acting for the main character (male) is poor as well. As mentioned before, the game is terrible without a controller. And what the hell happened to the party's tactics and leveling up?

So there you have it. I won't say "don't play it", cause, again, I think it's playable. But if you're looking for a deep, meaninful and engagin experience, I suggest you look elsewhere.

This is probably not the first user "review" you read, you already know all the crap about this game (after 8 or 9 cosmetic patches) being a terrible console port hack'n'slash fetch quest fest single player mmorpg simulator - even the Garrison missions from WoW (one of WoW's biggest badge of shame) got into this single player game in a dumbed down version, what a joke. Practically the ending was sold as a DLC called Tresspasser.

I can recommend this game only if you are too much of a Dragon Age lore fan and absolutely want to know the continuation of the story of Thedas - even if it transforms the world from Origins into a wonderland of rainbows and unicorns and the lore from the previous games got butchered to match the terrible gameplay. Now, if you can bare through all the incredible ammount of social justice warrior/political correctness content you can get a decent hollywood-kind-of generic saving the world plot in the universe of Dragon Age. Of course you should play this on casual difficulty because setting it higher only makes the tedious and easy fights longer and avoid side content as much as you can. If you really want to waste money no matter what, go ahead and buy it. The actual players are spoken - not those advertising agents called gaming journalists -, you have been warned.

In my experience when the difference between user score and "pro" score is this much it usually means the developers changed the direction of the franchise and the old fans dont approve. Thing is it is actually true in this case but if you rate this game ignoring previous dragon age games it is still a mediocre (less than mediocre on PC because of control/interface) crap. Hopefully in a few years the new consoles (PS4, Xbox1) will be overpowered by the PC-s again and the originally true pc game franchises ruined by the currently mainstream console gaming can be saved. Probably DA will be down the drain by that time and not many will give a crap about it if it comes to PC.

I give it a 5 (now after all the patches) because the game technically works and has potential to be fun for some morons and to show respect for the artists who created the fantastic music, the beautiful landscapes and some voice acting. Because nothing else is in this game matches what should be in an AAA PC game released in 2014, especially not now in 2015 after Witcher 3.

It is like if you pay for an expensive meal but your first couple of bites are really bland and uninteresting so you only continue to eat because you paid for an expensive meal and you're hungry. I plan to keep trying but there are little things that have already really turned me off to this game...and little things add up. For example...

When I want to interact with something (or someone) I have to be right next to it/them. In many games, if you want to interact with something/someone you can click on it and your character will move to it.

Second, when I do stop to talk or interact with someone/something, my companions look like they drank too many energy drinks and cannot find a spot to settle. During dialogues it looks absurd for my companion's to nervously move around in and out of the camera view. Ok people, just chill! I'm trying to have a conversation here!

Third, there are several interface design choices I dislike. It seems quite console oriented and not designed for PC. I am not AT ALL a fan of console games or PC games that function like console ports. Just for one example, it is unclear when leveling up whether a skill is selected, selectable, or "unselectable". This comes down to too subtle indications via color and contrast choices.

Forth...Inquisition? This name brings up two memories for me and neither is conducive to my wanting to be a part of this organization and in no way elicits any sort of "heroic" feeling. First, I of course think of the Spanish Inquisition and their horrible reputation for torture, murder, etc. in the name of religion. Why would I want to be part of an organization called the "Inquisition" when the sole reference in most people's minds to the word is a part of human history most people would be ashamed of or disgusted by?! The second memory that comes to mind is Monty Python and their spoof of the Spanish Inquisition (torturing people with a "comfy pillow"!). These two memories have applied a permanent uncomfortable mixture in my mind of disgust and giggles. Either way, there is no room for any positive connotation of the word Inquisition.

I absolutely loved DA:O, played through DA:2 even though the repeating locations really bothered me, but I can't get into this one yet. Several review sites express the necessity of sticking with it and that the first 10 or so hours are very boring.

I do plan to keep trying to get into it as it was expensive meal and I am pretty hungry.

It is repetetive and some battles take a ridiculous long time and while most enemies are a joke, some are really hard to crack. This problem will be increased due to the fact that missions and areas don't have any level recommendation.

So the only thing that keeps you going is the story and the beautiful landscape. The story certainly has it's moments and choices seem to matter, but sometimes it is somewhat frustrating as you expect a big battle or something big to happen and then there is only a short video sequence.
The game isn't really open world. It is divided into several areas, which are big enough to explore. And there certainly is enough to explore, but it seems like a waste of time like in most games. And some areas are so screwed-up like a labyrinth to keep you busy.

And then there are bugs! Many of them. Especially AI bugs or falling through the floor. Very frustrating.

This game has a good story and great graphics but the combat system is terrible. I find that I am hating combat because it feels more like a twitch fest cross between tetris and mortal-combat.

I guess the most helpful would be for me to put the quality of the game based on the others. It isn't as good as Dragon Age I and almost as good as Dragon Age 2.

The camera is almost crawling on the ground and can only capture about 1/4 of the range of your spells (when you have a mage selected). This means that you have to move the camera like crazy to just issue the simplest of orders. Imagine an old man with extremely bad eyesight trying to read a newspaper by holding it 10 cm in front of his eyes and moving the head along each line of text. That's basically how tactical mode plays here. You even see farther away in the 3-d person view. So basically the tactical mode is useless and you need to play console-style, viewing each of the characters from behind. But that's too tedious and it's easier to play just one of them (e.g. your main) and leave everyone else on AI-assist mode. And then it doesn't even feel like a game where you control a group of characters or even as an RPG in general.

The dialog system is handled in console style as well: the "ring" with short replies which don't always match what the character says after you select that option. What a mess really... This game might be good for console players but definitely not for desktop or RPG players.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very, very bad game for a PC owner. After waiting for crapload of patches, dlc's the game is still not optimized for PC.
Simple pros and cons will seal the deal I guess.

+ Graphics are kinda nice. Most people hate them, but it is mostly due to the shiny faces effect.
+ Some of old characters have an action here.
    + Locations diversity.
+ Magic and spell effects feel more satisfying visually than previous games.

Now its time to tell why there is so much rant about DAI. Some caps might appear, so excuse me for that.

    - Controls suck. Mouseover spells and attacks, the added feature of rightclick is a fake - character still attacks the same **** way, you just dont hold the mouse. Animations are long, and static - playing with melee class is pain in ass, since your char doesnt move an inch while performing 2 **** SECOND ANIMATION OF AUTOATTACK. No click - move to loot, no mass loot, no chain spells, all is dumbed down enough so your 6-year old console player wouldn't feel overwhelmed.

    - AI is stupid. they don't know what range mean - all chars go to fight melee, doesnt matter if they have bow, dagger or staff. They do not know how to use abilities, and you cant really adjust that - characters behavior menu became a healing pot macro. Do not teach your characters activatable static stances (like cassandra's) - they will use it and go afk. Game becomes retarded on hard and gothic 3 release on nightmare simply because you basically fight alone.

    - Tactical camera doesnt work.it is too small, doesnt cover all battlefield and range of orders is limited.

    - Tactical pause doesnt work for real here. No matter what order you issue in tactical pause, it will be ignored. like, why?

    - Story is stupid. Random guy/grill just had the mark appear on his palm without any decent explanation. Gratz, this makes you one of the most important personas in the history. However, it is no use, since...

    - 80% of the time is Korean MMO style grindfest. Gather 10 elfroots, kill 5 monsters, explore 5 places. get 6 librarium(or what is that **** called) pieces. Game itself is barely 10 hours, it is stretched forcefully by being unable to level without grinding.

    - Tolerance. Bioware became so tolerant lately. There are 3 types of female characters in the game - 1) lesbian 2) ugly as **** 3) unavailable in the party; 2 types of males - 1) gachigasm gayboys 2) Blackwall. Bioware is forcing you to become minority, to love and adore homosexuals. NO IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT. if you like that, you can have gay activities back there in your places or wherever you like. Not in my game.

    - No healing magic. Oh yeah, now you use potions. only potions. craft potions, gather stuff for potions, save at camps for potions - your group, as mentioned is stupid as **** and tend to receive damage a lot. And now you cant even heal them, yay! How not a challenging difficulty spike (sarcasm)? Basically the game on higher difficulty is - go to random location, find camp - fight enemies - run out of potions - return to camp - enemies spawned again - fight enemies - run out of potions.... should i continue the loop?

    - Final boss. Oh my god, they ****ed it up so hard ////SPOILER SPOILER DONT READ IF AFRAID the final boss is dlc guy from 2nd dragon age//// WERE THERE NO BADASS ENEMIES IN THE WHOLE DA FOLKLORE? Even infamous Mass effect 3 ending did it better.

    - Optimization. Game unexpectedly runs better on windows 10 (kappa sellout), but dont expect decent framerate if you are using something which is weaker than Geforce 970. Forget about the game if you thought about playing it on laptop. Fps drops, fps locks, constant stuttering - all ****gasm of the poor console ports you can experience right here right in the game.

You have it. This game is not worth money, not worth time. You have good RPG to play - DA 1 and 2, Witcher 1-3, SWKOTOR 1-2, Pillars of eternity, Divinity, etc. Not this. This is call of duty from the RPG world. However, COD can be really fun in multiplayer unlike DAI, since

    - Multiplayer is pay2win chest opening simulator.

Character creation is another great feature. You can easily create the character of your dreams and edit every little detail about them. Not only that, you can also choose from 4 different races, which is something that was missing in DA2. So there's definitely room for some good old RP here.

The game looks very nice in the Frostbite engine. I know people say it's not as beautiful as Witcher 3, but it holds it's own and has a very colorful and vibrant world. Some characters look quite odd to be honest, like humans that don't really look like humans with their strangely shaped/sized heads and whatnot.

The combat is pretty dull and offers next to no tactical depth or strategy. Most fight boil down to focus firing targets one by one with your party and there's hardly any reason to use crowd control or combos to they same extent as in the first game, Origins. Sometimes it's hard to follow the battlefield with all the spell effects lighting your entire screen, and it feels like your just mashing buttons.

The story, for me at least, is hardly interesting and most of the time I would just ignore the main story as it is quite boring. Almost all of the characters you meet lack any sort of depth and it's very hard to care about them, so that's a big minus for Bioware. I recently replayed the Baldur's Gate series and there are so many interesting characters in those games compared to DAI. Even in Origins you had Morrigan and Alistair who were very entertaining characters and you really wanted to know their stories. Varric is the only notable character in the sequels and he's kind of lost his charm in this game, at least for me.

    So the final verdict:

    Graphics are good.
Lots of content and a great world.
Combat lacks depth and gets boring really fast.
Story and characters are uninteresting and very dull.

I gave this a good chance and didn't overhype it. It certainly made up for most of the mistakes of DA2, but it still came short as an RPG. It's still a decent game and can be a lot of fun, but if you're looking for good combat and/or good storytelling, you might as well keep looking.

This could've been a great game but its flawed in so many ways.
-The story is unfortunately no where as compelling as Origin. The main character's dialogues are rather weak. What happened to the Grey Wardens? Besides Black Wall, the Grey Wardens are just not there, and Black Wall is not all that interesting to say the least. I just didn't like how the main character accidentally gets

Besides Black Wall, the Grey Wardens are just not there, and Black Wall is not all that interesting to say the least. I just didn't like how the main character accidentally gets his power and calls it done. Origin built the world with Grey Wardens being the champions needed to defeat the Blight, but now they are totally irrelevant in the series.
-The gameplay has improved greatly over DA:II but for some unknown reason the AI hierarchy system from Origin was removed. The game makes for flashy play on normal mode, but when it comes to the highest difficulty your AI teammates are constant liability that always waste away potions and dies in a heartbeat against multiple enemies. I do enjoy the grinding but against enemies from the rift the AIs just don't really stand a chance which leads to frustrating do-overs again and again.
-For some odd reason the elves just look uglier and uglier in each installment. What is even more odd is Dorian is the best looking guy, Leliana and Morrigan looks prettier than Origin while majority of the casts are average to not attractive at all. Its like high quality ugly. The funny thing is that there's actually quite a few interesting characters. Dorian and Cole is two of them. I also find Sera and Solas interesting as well but elves are just ugly to look at.
-Outside of fighting, the animation/facial expression can be rather stiff on many occasions, making the conversation rather awkward to look at.

The game's world is beautiful... but there's just so many things wrong with this game that just adds up.

The first impression is great, but when I play more and more, it starts become dull. I think controls in pc is a little bit complicated and the story is a little dull and I have no feeling when playing the game. I think I enjoyed playing Dragon Age Origins than Inquisition. But good job at the graphics and the effects when in battle, but lack in the story.

the only think that makes this game playable is the too many quests and the large maps.
"no think combat". just use one guy and let rest of your team do whatever they want.
the story was nothin special...basically nothin at all but as the game goes you can stick whith.
i never used the "stop time to make strategically moves" and nothing to change to the behaviour of your allies..

For the hell of it let's say you start at 50 points, the happy middle between 0 and 100.
You gain 10 points for pretty graphics.
You lose 10 points for having the least satisfying combat in the whole world of single player RPG's. (Just because the enemy has a longer health bar - doesn't make you more challenging! If you need lessons for what is the right proportion of damage-to-healthbar-to-player-boredom ratio, talk to Dark Souls. He's got that figured out really well. (You could even talk to World of Warcraft, he got it fairly well too! And it's not like this would be the first thing you copied off of him...)
You gain 10 points for decent voice acting and relatively interesting and diverse characters.
But then you lose 5 points for the fact that the story feels so fake. (C'mon, everyone just dropped everything and decided to all of a sudden follow a supposed criminal who has no experience in leading a large organization? And if i'm the big leader guy, why on earth am i running around putting myself at risk in direct combat when i'm supposed to be sitting in the back leading?).
    Moving on.
You gain 5 points for ok (although not groundbreaking) soundtrack.
And then you lose 10 points for barely using it! (I had my sounds at 50% and music at 100% volume and I could still barely hear it. Probably because it wasn't actually playing for most of the game. Except for combat maybe. Ugh it felt so empty and not involved at all without music, it's like watching a scary movie without sound - it just doesn't work!)
    Anyway.
You gain 10 points for having large custom environments.
You lose 5 points for overloading your players with sidequests. (You are not Skyrim, you're not World of Warcraft, you're Dragon Age! Why are you so confused?..)
You gain 5 points for being relatively stable and bug.. resistant, although not free.
I could keep going, but let's face it - it's really not going anywhere.
Adding all this up in the end - the grand total is 60/100.
Fine, i'll add 10 points for the fact that overall you're a well-made game that seems to have had hard work put into it.
But wait, then i'm going to take 10 points back for the fact that you're a descendant of way more amazing and beautifully made games and i really expected better from you.
    Yup, that's still 60/100.

Pro: Main story missions were mostly well-done and exciting. Some of the Companion quests were also decent if not the most memorable in the series.
Con: open world content is incredibly dull and tedious. "Filler" is not an unfair description. Since I am a completionist I tortured myself with doing most of it - I'm sure if you are not you can skip a lot of this and enjoy the game more. But if the content is so boring people recommend skipping it - why bother having it in the game at all?

Pro: Graphics are good for a hybrid old-gen/new-gen game. World has some beautiful scenery.
Con: World is lifeless. No real dynamic events outside a few quests in a couple of the zones. No really impressive towns or cities to enjoy as most zones do not have any settlements.

If you have t bought the game yet - I recommend waiting until the GOTY edition is in the $20 bargain bin. And then only if you are a fan of this franchise. Else your TIME is probably spent playing something better.

I've spent the last couple of weeks playing this on PC, and while it's not a great game, it's certainly not a terrible one either and all these 0 ratings are just ridiculous and not objective in any way. It's not as good as Dragon Age Origins though, and probably ranks about the same as Dragon Age 2.

    Pros:
    - Graphically, the game is wonderful to look at. Forests, beaches, mountains, castles etc are wonderfully rendered, though sadly there is no day/night cycle which ruins the immersion a little..
    - There is a lot to do in the game and I would think a dedicated playthough should take 100+ hours.
    - Your main character and followers can equip all sorts of gear and the gear is highly customizable as you can create your own and even change the tint of armour and clothing.
    - You get your own stronghold a while into the game which is really detailed and changes as time passes. New rooms get built, people move in etc, and you can also customize some of the furnishings.

    Cons:
    - Even playing with a controller, the tactical camera is not great. There is no zoom capability (I think this was fixed for keyboard and mouse though), no ability to select all characters at the same time except for certain default actions like holding position, and no ability to automatically pan between the 4 characters in your party. You move the cursor around freely and the game treats it as another character for pathfinding purposes, so it gets stuck when characters are at differing elevations on the battlefield.
    - Combat does not seem to feel as "epic" as in the previous 2 games. There are no finishing moves, no option to hide the interface when you want to take an in-combat screenshot, and none of the new combat abilities seem to evoke that "wow" factor when you use them. You do not get attribute points to assign each level anymore to your stats like Strength etc, so about half the abilities in each skill tree do little more than grant a +3 bonus to the relevant attribute and a somewhat naff passive bonus. For example, the two handed skill tree has a skill that grants you +3 to Strength and also reduces your cooldown times by a measly 1 second ON A CRITICAL HIT. Wow. They have also introduced a mechanic called "guard" for warriors which grants them an additional shield against damage which they accumulate by using certain abilities and smacks a lot of Mass Effect. It really makes no sense to me from a gameplay point of view.
    - Combat tactics for your companions have been dumbed down. You no longer have any options to tailor certain actions to certain conditions, but only to specify their preferred abilities to use in combat (which doesn't seem to make any difference), which other character they follow or defend, and the stamina percentage thresholds they stop using their abilities or the hit point percentage thresholds they start using healing potions. Ranged characters still have a tendency to rush into melee combat, and when even walking around in town, your companions just cannot stand still and rush back and forth like headless chickens before deciding to stand on top of a table just for the heck of it.
    - The game throws too much lore at you in the form of books, messages etc, a lot of which is not even directly relevant to the game's story. Do I really want to read a journal entry about some well known Orlesian play based on a thief who saved some noblewoman from being offed by her lover??? Do I really want to do another fetch quest based on yet another message I just stumbled across in the Hinterlands???
    - There is too much emphasis on gathering ingredients and resources in order to craft gear or complete a number of quests in the game. It becomes terribly repetitive after a while. My character is developing a crick in her back from having to stop every few seconds to pick up yet another elfroot/blood lotus/iron deposit etc. It's not fun finding some great unique item on a boss monster you've just dispatched only to compare it to your existing crafted gear which usually turns out to be better anyway.
    - The voice acting and companions in the game are not as good as they were in the previous 2 games. Apart from Varric, I have not really become emotionally invested in any of the companions or advisors in the game. Your main character's dialogue is nowhere near as entertaining or as well written as Hawke's (particular sarcastic Hawke's was) in Dragon Age 2.
    - Long loading screens when you travel between different areas. Take a break and go and make a cup of tea because that's how long it seems to take sometimes.

    - That's about all I can think of for now. Despite my gripes, it's still a decent game, and I would have given it a 7 if not for some irritating combat bugs that still haven't been fixed, like the famous one where one of your characters will just freeze up in combat in tactical mode until you make them jump.

    Final verdict: 6/10

Great world graphically but somewhat weak overall experience due to gimmick battles and unlively meaningless side quests.

    Time Invested: 75 hours.

    Story/Characters

The most important element to me in an RPG is the story and its characters. I did not find many memorable characters in DAI besides the Inquisitor and Morrigan. Morrigan really doesn't even count unless you have played DAO since most of my interest to her stems from unanswered questions from the first game. I didn’t care for any of the companion characters as they all seemed dull and unexciting. As a result, I found myself engaging in less and less conversations with my companions as I progressed through the game because I could care less about them. Additionally, I did not romance a character because, as stated above, I didn’t really like or find any of the companions interesting so why put the effort in.

The overall story was just pretty “plain Jane.” Bad guy tries to take over world and good versus evil. Nothing new or really exciting here as well. To be honest I thought it was a bit boring and the villain was lame which added to this factor.

There is a lot of content in this game. However, the problem is much of it is mundane. Such as go to spot A to get this and come back to B. The quests just are not very engaging or have much of anything going on. I will say that the world itself has an atmosphere that it adds to the game and I thought it did exceedingly well at looking as a war ravaged land when it needed to.

I will say that the world state import was a very clever and unique idea by Bioware. Fans of the previous games will probably enjoy that they are able to customize what happened in the previous two games.

    Gameplay:

The controls and menus for the PC are best described as clunky. The tactical camera is awkward and it will take a little bit to get use to; the whole four times that you do decide to use it. Combat feels like a hack/slash and difficulty is lacking which means it stops being fun after about 15 hours. The only real challenge in combat is fighting the High Dragons, but after your first few, it can be a little tiresome since they have so much HP.

Your companions have terrible AI which can be painful at times. They constantly move out of position and fail to follow directions which makes you want slap them. However, the lack of difficulty makes up for their incompetence.

The outfits and weaponry look really cool, but as with many RPGs, I wish there was more customization to your character. Speaking of customization, your stats are really dumbed down in this game. Basically you can only pick certain abilities, but your character auto-levels his/her stats. This was quite disappointing.

This game came with a lot of bugs. Many of them have been cleaned up, but it still does not run nearly as smooth and clean as it should. The first few days of owning it and dealing with the bugs was terrible.

Long load screens….need I say more.

    Graphics/Sound:

I am not the type of gamer where graphics really are a big deal to me. I know many people would disagree, but I thought the game looked fantastic. The environment was wide open with great sights and had a lot of details.

One thing that Bioware seems to always get right is voice acting and it is top notch here. I will say that the music is amazing as well, but it is not playing nearly enough.

    Conclusion:

I admit that I had high expectations for this game which is why it was just a letdown. Don’t get me wrong, there is a ton of content here and room for a lot of fun, but I just expected much more from this series which seems to be declining with each new entry. The button mashing combat, clunky mechanics, bugs, hollow characters, and ordinary story is what makes this game average. I would say it is a slightly above average RPG because of its sheer size and loads of content. If you’re a fan of RPGs it is definitely worth a try, but you won’t be missing much if you do decide to skip it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the first Dragon Age game. It wasn't perfect but it was a classic BIOWARE role playing game focused on storytelling. After the huge mess that was DA2 I really had hopes for this game...

The storyline in DA Inquisition is boring as hell with no real suspense, no interesting plot twists and no real choices maybe except for some political decisions and romance options. The plot is unrealistic.. I mean I am the mighty inquisitor and in the process of saving the world I must gather herbs, stones, animal skin and help every bastard everywhere to do whatever . The big problem is that If u choose to do only the main quests u need a specific amount of power for each mission. And power is gained by doing some **** side quests like helping farmers and killing bandits.

I liked some of the story references to the first two games of the series (like meeting Morrigan or hawke). The graphics looks ok I guess. I liked the dragon design and the different environments but the gameplay is a big **** YOU to PC users. The controls are just bad...

The conversations are juvenile, full of clichés and the plot seems like a Disney good versus evil story in which the hero defeats the bad guy and they all live happily ever after. I never felt like one of the characters was in danger or that my actions would somehow influence their fate like in Mass Effect 2.

Regardless of how you play, the game will end the same... there is no good / evil ending like in KOTOR or Jade Empire. At least in DAO you had some options related to how you could complete the final mission.

DAI is not a bad game it's just mediocre at its best. The main problem this game had was that BIOWARE and EA brainwashed us into thinking this was going to be a game of epic proportions thanks to all the **** trailers and promises from the developers. But in reality it's just an average game. Too bad BIOWARE is not what it used to be.

The characters in the game are a mixed bag; some of them are good, particularly your advisors and some cameos from previous games, but for the most part they are weak: with the exception of three, the rest of your companions are forgettable due to in large because of the weak dialog throughout the game and the poorly done side missions. At the end of the day, you spend the entire game gathering resources and power for the Inqusition, only to find out that you might as well didn't do it, since the final battle doesn't put any of them at use.
Overall, it's not a bad game, at times you can have fun with it, but it is most certainly the weakest entry in the franchise and overall fails to deliver what was promised to us.

It looks good, graphically. There are some places are just gorgeous and others where I found myself going...wow that looks so 2010. I guess the best way to describe it is 'pretty'.

The gameplay was fine initially but I found myself getting progressively more and more bored with it. It starts to feel the same after a while. The combat is one dimensional and being tactical was merely to try and beat the harder fights...and even then there were only one or two different options. Most of the time I was just blowing through fights...and then I'd just hit a wall and have to struggle.

The story was the only reason I stuck around as long as I did, but I found that it still felt rather dry after a while. It wasn't as engaging.

I was not really impressed with the voice acting. It felt forced. The dialogue itself was pretty good, but the delivery left a lot to be desired. It's like they tried too hard to make interesting characters and just ended up making everyone weird.

The romance options weren't that great. The sex options weren't that great. Seriously? Why so many non-heterosexual options? They're literally 10% of the population, come on.

Overall I felt the game had potential but I just couldn't slog through it. I started to lose interest and just sort of stopped playing it. I guess I'll eventually go back and finish it, but the hype just ended up being hype. The game wasn't as great as everyone thought.

This game got a lot of praise from reviewers and i heard terms like "Bioware is returning to form" being thrown around. I don't know what these people are talking about. In my opinion this game is mediocre at best. I will say that it feels like a honest attempt to make a good rpg compared to Dragon Age 2 but the result is just not especially good in my opinion.

Lets start with the technical problems. There are bugs, physics issues, insane loading times and performance issues. The loading times in particularly were truly horrible. But hey i might have been the unlucky one so lets ignore the technical stuff and look at the actual game.

The story is pretty weak in itself. They are trying to explore a bunch of different stuff in the story but the story is basically limited to very few actual story missions which causes most of the story to feel underdeveloped. I don't want to spoil stuff but i just found the main plot to be fairly uninteresting and underdeveloped not to mention that there is a lot of dumb **** in it.

There are some nice character interaction with your companions in the base though and i would guess that this is the saving grace for some people. The dialogue wheel is back and it is awful as normal but there are a bunch of romances and stuff and people into this **** will probably get their fix from this.

But the biggest problem with the story and its character is that 90 % of your time with the game will be spent exploring the different environments in the game. And this is basically totally separated from the plot completely. Sure you can have your companions with you but they don't offer any input or dialogue options except from some party banter so who cares.

These areas do for the most part completely lack interesting quest, dialogue options, companion input or any meaningful stuff that you would expect from a roleplaying game. It is basically just the standard ubisoft open world nonsense combined with some boring as hell mmo grindy quests. I do like the the environments and how varied they are but they are just filled with complete nonsense.

So the majority of the game is just complete filler that has very little to do with the main story and its characters. This could be acceptable if the combat was enjoyable but it gets old really fast. The tactical camera is **** so you want to play this game with the third person camera. Jumping between characters with the third person camera is a bother and since you don't really need to do this at the normal difficulty you will just play it as a normal mmo. This is completely mindless and gets boring really fast.

And even if you are a masochist and want to try to be tactical there are still not a whole bunch of interesting abilities to use.

Being forced to spend so much time doing something that is boring and not plot important is bad enough but it also destroys the pacing of the story entirely.

I am getting sick of writing about this game but here are some more stuff that i would like to complain about.

    - Lot less character customization. Only ability points left.
    -Gui suck
    - less equipment slots than before
    -boring effects on rings
    -few meaning full choices

Overall it was just a very mediocre game. Absolutely not terrible but at the same time not anywhere near being good. I should mention that i have completed the game.

If this video game was not a video game but a manual entitled "How to Ruin a trilogy", I would give it 10/10 any day of the week. Unforunately, this video game is not a useful manual, but a video game. It's a really bad video game.

The Grey Walden, Ferelden Blight --------------> Champion of Kirkwall ------------------> The Inquisitor. Does this progression from game to game make

Does this progression from game to game make sense to you? It doesn't to me.
Why the need to project the player to ever greater levels of global significance? To me it doesn't feel genuine, but rather quite forced - far better surely to build on the strengths of the original game.

It was quickly apparent that with the Dragon Age series, the devs simply made the games they wanted to make in the way they wanted to make them - unfortunately for us fans of Origins, this meant breaking what wasn't already broken - in the way combat was overhauled in Dragon Age 2 for example.

The masters over at Bioware have done it again. This epic journey into the world of Thedas will steal more than 100 hours of your time, hours so full of superb gaming that you'll never forget them.

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
