12 hours so far. Feeling bored already.

1. Alot of bland filler content that they added just for timesink. 2. Tactical camera is terrible. Cant zoom high to see battlefield. 3. I hate a switch from traditional healing through spells and abilities to healing potions spam. This dumbed down tactical depth and made playing on Nightmare torture instead of challenge. 4. Looting is clunky

4. Looting is clunky and bad. I want to grab stuff quickly and move on.
5. Graphics is decent, but nothing jaw dropping. Believe it or not, my modded Skyrim looks way better.
6. Main story - mediocre.
7. Character development could be better. Some abilities are just not fun. And Id like to see more ranks of improving useful skills.
8. Poor optimization. Battlefield 3 on same engine flies like a batterfly on my PC. DAI isnt smooth at all.
9. Many annoying little things that they could easily fix before release but didnt care. Like when you run forward and press M, map appears but imediately scrolls up. Or your character doesnt autoattack in normal mode.
10. Followers stuck and dont listen commands sometimes.
11. Enemy patrols respawn constantly which I hate.
12. Goddamn chests and gold piles put in random places ruin immersion for me. Skyrim did so much better job at treasures placement.
13. Character creator is bad and doesnt offer variety in characters you can make. There are many sliders but I just couldnt make what I want.
14. Crafting - I dont know where all those praises come from. THey just made you grind more resources, thats it. Not much real depth here.
15. Multiplayer - boring grindfest where you forced to grind and grind and grind to even make class you like. Played one match. Never again I touch this garbage.

There are good things too ofc.
Follower characters are pretty cool and Id like to learn more about them. Music is awesome, especially bards. Also big bosses look cool until you realise combat is so **** that you dont want to fight them unless its easy difficulty.

Bought it since I liked Origins, and there were "parts" of DA2 I could enjoy.
This was like playing a single-player MMO, having to grind and do sidequests for hours between every main quest.

The story is nonsensical with major clichés, written like it was done by a 14 year old who's only experience with Fantasy is through videogames, using simplistic events to bring the story forward, i.e. "use the magic sword". The story lacks basic storytelling structure and is just the good guy winning and being cool, thanks to a very bad plot device,
time travel.
This might seem like a stretch, but I got more out of the "story" in Dragon Age 2. DA2 was a bad game in all respects that had three different stories going on, but atleast I can recall what those stories were. This was a generic fight between a good guy and bad guy.

Mixed in with all that there's Freemium iphone app devices like having the player wait x amount of hours to get small rewards.

It's amazing that an AAA game can be this bad, and yet a game like "The Banner Saga", which was made by 3 people, can make all of the same aspects for so much less and be so much better.

In total I spent about 40 hours on the game, about which I assume 6 were around the main storyline. Nothing outside of that felt like it mattered, and as if it was thought "more time spent" = good game.

The story is very weak and lame, lacking any suspense or twist. You just couldn't care less about it as you play. NPCs have nothing good to say and there's absolutely no epic moments/cutscene in this game whatsoever. And omgg the characters!!!! How?? The characters are sooo stereotypical and extremely annoying. It's like Bioware is trying to force down their political correctness down your throat. Instead of being creative, Bioware opt to make the cast as multicultural as possible which makes the whole thing cheesy and utterly cringe worthy. You have the token Hispanic Josephine with the forced stereotypical Mexican accent; the African Vivienne, bald and exaggerated lips; one lesbian (Sera); and one gay (Dorian); a big brute 'American tough guy-badass attitude' Iron Bull; and a tough woman Cassandra to appease the feminists. These are unoriginal, poorly designed characters. Please, stop...

Another example of how they try to force it on the players, is they actually went as far as making one companion mission revolving around the issue of his homosexuality. Come on!! Look, I've got nothing against homosexuality. So we don't care about your sexuality, stop being insecure and sharing it with the rest of the world!! Bioware, if you want homosexuality/minority/females to be accepted, then you'll have to make the characters respectable. What you're doing is perpetuating their insecurities and making them vulnerable!!

Let's talk about the open-world aspect. Guys, you can't create a large map to explore and call it an open-world. You'll need a world you can interact with and to be able to immerse yourself in it. DAI fails to do this. The locations are very bland, and there's nothing to do!!! Not one side activity. Wtf??

I play on the highest setting, graphics looks washed out for some reason. It looks generic but I suppose it's an improvement over DAII. Combat mechanic, nothing to write home about. Better played on a controller. Romance is poorly implemented. And the game just feels rushed. It excels in nothing.

Overall, I'm so disappointed. It's Dragon Age.. I expected so much more. I didn't enjoy my time playing it and therefore can't recommend this game to anyone unless you're really bored and have nothing else to play. Bioware, please you'll need to step it up. I'm so worried about the upcoming Mass Effect.. Please don't mess that up like you did with DAI and that Mass Effect 3 ending.

Inquisition will be very fun for you if you enjoy MMO-like design in RPG's. I quite like that, I find some care-free grinding and exploration relaxing and it helps me get immersed in the world. The game takes its time and implements those mechanics well. However, if you prefer RPG's that are shorter and more to the point (like Witcher 2), you may get bored here. However, if you prefer RPG's that are shorter and more to the point (like Witcher 2), you may get bored here. The story and dialogue is also great and moves at a fine pace, but in order for you to not constantly wonder what the hell is going on I recommend that you refresh your knowledge of the Dragon Age world and lore, as well as what happened in the previous games. The Keep website is a good place to start and you should definitely do that, but I'd also recommend reading up on the world's different factions and what they are about, it will really help you appreciate the methodic world building that's going on here.

Unfortunately, the game has one fatal flaw: crashing. Performance-wise, I had no problems on ultra (4790k, 16g ram, 780 Ti, Win 8.1), but it crashed probably around once every hour. All my drivers are of course up to date, and I don't have any hardware or temperature issues (just finished Far Cry 4 without a single problem). I have no idea what's causing this. Could be engine related, could be DRM-related, I couldn't say. Will they fix it? Probably, but I decided not to risk waiting and refunded the game through Origin (and kudos to them for allowing you to do so if you are not satisfied, as opposed to Steam).

As a result, although the game seemed very interesting, I can't in good conscience rate it high if it was unstable enough for me to get a refund. You might not have problems with it though, so I guess there's nothing stopping you from checking it out and then getting a refund if you are unhappy.

This game is a mockery to PC gamers.

This is another example of why you shouldn't get anything from EA.
CD Projekt is the only company that makes worthy PC RPG titles, I'll be waiting for the Witcher 3.

Bioware once known for their strong writing in RPG franchises such as Baldur's Gate, Jade Empire, KOTOR, Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 1 and 2. Have now produced a game equivalent to Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning. The dissapointing part is that while Amalur had a beautiful environment and solid combat the questing and storyline was horribly dull, however Kingdom of Amalur had some solid gameplay mechanics which helped make up for this weakness. Inquisition does not, the tactical view is unnecessary and broken on PC and the mechanics are dumbed from Dragon Age 2 which many critics believe were dumbed down from Origins in order for the gameplay to work on consoles which lack the necessary buttons. However this is not a sufficient excuse for two reasons 1)The Port could have actually had some effort put into it. 2) There are issues here not related to controllers. Like the fact that healers no longer exist, that you can't select your followers and que any actions. All of this makes for a terrible experience for anyone who was hoping to see the decline in Bioware's mechanics and writing to reverse itself here in this game. Most of the old Bioware staff have been replaced by EA or internally, or in the case of its founders jumped ship. It is a sinking ship.

Well that's my review of the game, but I'd also like to discuss the decline at Bioware and why it has more significance to it than this one game. Near the end of Origin's development cycle Bioware sold out to EA and their has been shakeups at the studio where staff have been replaced by Corporate shills and Social Justice Warriors. This decay can even be found in Origins to some extent where large boring sections of the game were written in by Jennifer Hepler a self-professed admirer of Anita Sarkeesian as is David Gaider the lead writer for the series. Why is all this relevant? Well Anita Sarkeesian is a proven con-artist who scams people for money and criticizes everything that has so far helped grow gaming into a mainstream hobby. In a world where Sarkeesian dictates what defines a game and what acceptable speech and thought are classic RPGS that got many involved in this hobby would not exist. I'm talking about classics such as Final Fantasy VII a game which under these people's views would be sexist and racist and therefore should be banned. For many people this was the RPG that got them invested and interested in games or RPGS as a whole. Hell Anita even openly criticizes Mario, you know the lovable plumber that was part of our childhood dreams? The average guy who rescued the princess and found love. Nope according to these people he's just part of the patriarchy treating women like weak feeble minded creatures who need rescuing. It's honestly so ridiculous how fast this Cultural Marxist insanity has spread from the Media to Academia to Politics to Video games media and now to video games themselves.

Many of us play videogames to get away from the degeneracy and craziness we see in the world. All we ask is to leave us alone while the powers that be continue to be like parasites sucking up our time and money, leaving us wage-slaves to this communist state. Everyone recognizes there is a problem in this country, but the Media have shaped opinion not to blame the Republican and Democrat communists who have shat all over our constitution but instead to blame working class white heterosexual males, the same people these parasites make their living off of. At this point I feel like those of us who are likeminded individuals need to stand up and say enough is enough, we tolerated all the **** and all the lies and propaganda they've thrown at us but this is going to far, now you want to police our thoughts as well and indoctrinate your message even into video games, the very means which we use to escape the insanity you fling at us daily? NO!

Don't buy this game, don't throw your money at a shoddy product that only received good reviews because the media is part of the cultural Marxist machines which will make us all wage slaves helping the rich to get richer and turning the poor against us as the rich offer them breadcrumbs and exploit their ignorance. This is truly 1984.

I loved Origins - I liked *some* parts of 2. (not a lot - the combat was ridiculously simple & I'm a very casual gamer. I did not like the 'Hawke' idea, because it felt like playing someone else's story/character, but the actual character of Hawke was agreeable enough, if weirdly passive & lacking in any heroism/heroic journey.)

Inquisition may get better, but I doubt very much I'll play long enough to find out.

First, I hate the combat. I really despise it. It's awkward, slow, unsatisfying and feels badly conceived. (mage was best - I tried all but 2h warrior) Character creation is ok - the hair is horrible, however. (hair matters!)

However, while the combat would put me off, it's the story that really shocked me. Unlike the brilliant start of Origins, & the at least initially involving story of 2, I do not care in any way about Inquisition. It makes little sense - in the space of a few minutes (if that) you are moved from 'everyone hates you' to 'exalted one!' For no good reason, other than some people saw a glowing woman and decided she's Andraste. They'd seen her before, too, but you vaguely touching green stuff changed their mind. For some reason.

It has to get better, but I don't feel compelled to find out. My character is bland. Almost nothing. Whether elf or Qunari - just - eh. (and their voices are all the same between races, so - eh. That's ok, but certainly isn't impressive..) You get drawn into the 'Inquisition' - again, for some reason, with no real input of your own.

Truly, most off-putting is your first companion, Cassandra. I absolutely loathed her - and I say this as a feminist type myself. She seems to be yelling at you constantly, she's abusive, she's sneering, she's obnoxious. I've heard people say you have to read the comments, & the only response to that is, "No." If I wanted to spend hours with an angry companion, I could - I don't know - hang out in the subway! Or DMV.

The name, too, remains questionable. Joining & recruiting into something called 'The Inquisition' could be comic, but doesn't exactly inspire confidence. If I can't scream, "NOBODY EXPECTS...!" then it doesn't work. Neither does Cassandra's incessant 'Most Holy' comments. She comes off as an angry fanatic, & I don't care if her back story involves sad puppies. It's obnoxious, & reason to avoid.

Maybe the action is better on consoles - but I don't enjoy console games. Either way, the characters & story really lack whatever it takes to gain interest & keep it, & get me, at least, to play again.

AUnfortunately follows the pattern BioWare set up with Mass Effect of one cool game with a lot of promise and a few kinks, one awesome game that blows your socks off, and a third sequel that leaves you wishing they hadn't bothered. The interface for the PC version is atrocious, I was constantly battling the camera. Tactical camera is a joke compared to earlier iterations in this series. A huge chunk of the new NPCs (once a Bioware cornerstone - remember HK-47?) are so annoying I found myself partying up with a half-full roster just to have them out of my hair (some rise to being merely ok, some are particularly loathsome - Sera feels like handholding a particularly bratty 14 year old Cockney moppet throughout). The returning faces from earlier in the series are as cool as they were, but AI glitches mar their usefulness in combat (why would Varrick armed with his Bianca constantly be running up to blast away at people at point-black range, even when he had a clear line of fire?).
The maps are bigger and have more secrets to find, but the way they're put together and interacted with is still primitive, and possibly constrained by this being a poor-quality console port. I can't think of any other reason for the multi-level Val Royeaux marketplace to be chopped up into 10 different, tiny quadrants that have to be fast-traveled between - either a limitation of how much can be rendered within the console version's constraints or a bafflingly poor design choice. Other games in this genre - Skyrim, the Witcher series, etc - have done far better and looked far better doing it.
Combat is a meh affair where, in addition to fighting the camera, you will often be fighting your own party members' AIs. There are some tweaks you can do to have them prefer, disallow or use normally their powers while under AI control, but often when you give them orders in tactical view they will simply disregard them and do whatever they want. This is especially frustrating with the protagonist while engaging in rift battles - you may leave him or her covered and give them the command to work their magic MacGuffin on the rift to seal/weaken it, then look back moments later and find out they decided to run around or fight some random mob nearby instead. Bioware billed Inquisition as the triumphant return of tactical view that had been missing from II, but what they dredged back up is a flawed and creaking shadow of what once was.
The overarching plot is... okay, not great. The pacing is extremely offputting, particularly towards the end and around the Hinterlands portion, as many reviews have noted. It's not as compelling as Origins or II by a long shot, however.
I haven't mentioned multiplayer because I haven't bothered to play it - after the lackluster singleplayer showing it seemed pretty pointless.
Long story short - like ME3, this game seems to be Bioware so up themselves about their craft that they completely forgot to put in the heart and good character writing that they were once known for. Probably the last of their RPGs I'll buy; there are better choices on the market these days. Save your money, pick up the new Witcher for something that will out-Bioware Bioware, or Divinity Original Sin for something more retro, indie, and silly/funny.

I spent countless hours battling through repetitive uninspired quantity-above-quality time-wasters just to see the next cut-scene! While DA:O and ME:1 were genre-redefining in combat and story-telling, the current trend is hollowing out their basic principles. Better call it Action-RPG and use an other brand.

REVIEW: I feel that from DA:O, the series is going downwards, which urged me to write my opinion. First the good points:
* Story is OK in the sense that it keeps you interested. At least me as a somewhat fan. But most narrative is just mediocre, while some narratives like the Corypheus encounter in Haven, are small masterpieces.
* Voice casting is good. Cassandra and Varric are convincing. Dorian also. Well done!
* Visuals are good, although based on quantity instead of quality. Dragons are very well done.
But now the very bad stuff. Where to begin??
* Quantity over quality. Not everything one makes should end up in the final release. Not so in DA:I. It seems as if they committed themselves putting every bit they made. Was there any quality testing during development?
* The tactical camera is a mess. In 50% of the cases, the first thing you do in tactical view, is try to get the camera right because either some tree is in the way, or you see the feet of someone, or whatever other glitch. 50% of the time!!!
* Combat system. The tactical system in DA:O had such potential to mix action with strategy. The best DA:O mod: "Advanced Tactics" proves its potential. In DA:2 they striped it down, and in DA:I removed it completely. The companion controls are on par with Fallout 1, and that was 20 years ago! What remains is brainless AI combat that is artificially prolonged with massive health of the enemies. I wasted a few hours to take down Saraath, who had 500 times more health than my tank. That was the worst case. On average they have 50 times more health, and it mostly revolves around waiting for the adversaries to fall. And this is on the highest difficulty. I can't ask it more politely than: Which idiot made this combat system?
* Intrinsic timewasters. You wander around and suddenly your companions say "there must be something here". So what do you do? You search! It could be something important! And you find a bottle of wine?!? Time and time again. The game is littered with such crap. Now, you could say: don't bother. But it could as well be something hidden that is important to the story line. And that is not all. There is astro- and shardcrap that literately litters your map so it is hard to discern which is important and which not. The maps are huge but are stuffed full with stuff at most nonsensical places, in every bloody corner, bringing nothing to the story apart from prolonging it artificially. Then there are these requisitions that burn your resources (that you have to gather manually!) in exchange for power and which apparently have no other use. Took me a while to figure out that quests offer more than enough power, and gathering resources is a time-wasting chore. At least they could have placed a button for your companions to gather resources in a 20m radius.
* NPC interaction. This is an RPG, but no-one seems to care whether you loot his dear box in front of him. WTF?!? Doing odd stuff to progress the story, like climbing a wall during a gala-ball, is very normal...
* Companions like Sera or Iron Bull: Hardly convincing for even a 10-year old. And Cole: good try, but if something doesn't work out well, then you remove it from the final release!
* War room. By far most of the side missions don't add much to the story. The inquisition soldiers could have done these errands as well. But no, the player is supposed to take on every uninspired errand, to satisfy an NPC who doesn't even influence anything thereafter.
* Controls: from the first moment it is obvious that this game was polished for the consoles, and not much time was spent to adapt it to the PC. Using the mouse just seems awkward.
* User friendliness. If there was ever some beta-testing and feedback, then surely a conversation log would be top-priority for every self-respecting RPG. Also, the load screens show random Codex lore, which occasionally is a great read, but you should have time to read it! Deus Ex:HR solves this with letting the player enter the level with space-bar when done reading.
* Aftermath: this should be based on the main story and the decisions you have taken. The fact that in my play-through I didn't save the miners of Orzammar has little to do with the main story or my evil predispositions, but everything with me refusing to waste another +20 hours on some side-quest.

It would be best to have a more linear, well written and memorable product like DA:O than something fluffy without substance and generic. Expand

Having been a Bioware fan since the days of Neverwinter Nights I can honestly say that they have peaked.

DA 3 is a mediocre game with an emphasis on MMO combat in an MMO-like world. It has improved on the debacle that was DA 2 but fails to live up to the high standards of DA1.

What I liked: The graphics were good and I was quite impressed with the music. The tavern songs are folksy and have been performed by an actual artist making them pretty easy on the ear.

What I didn't like: The story felt pretty shallow and strongly reminded me of Mass Effect 3. It was like a cheesy hollywood B list film broken up by MMO side quests that didn't have any great reward.

The companions were terrible. The only one who I actually liked was Blackwall who felt more than two dimensional. The rest annoyed me and I only used them out of necessity rather than out of a feeling of companionship.

Conclusion: The game is okay, more of an action RP than a story driven one that you would expect from Bioware. I think their best work is behind them and this game is made worse when you consider just how good Dragon Age Origins was.

-Massive environment, unlike Dragon Age 2, no more recycle environment which is a good point.
-A lot of new features such as crafting feature
-Stunning graphic, beautifully designed environment. I can see Bioware learnt from the previous mistake.
-Interesting characters, I am glad to see Hawke's return. Wish to have a DLC so I can play Hawke again.
-War table feature sounds good

Negative
-Constant lagging and high frame rate even in high end machine. After the patching, the issue is still unresolved. Disappointed.
-Lack of facial expression animation, in fact, I prefer the graphic in Dragon Age 2. The characters look so unreal.
-Bugs, a lot of bugs. and crushing
-Unnecessary item pick up animation. Dragon age 2 did just fine.
-Combat is bad, real bad. In Dragon Age 2, the combat is very smooth. When I use a rogue, pressing "Attack" button and my character will automatically seek for nearby enemies. In Dragon Age Inquisition, the character has to be very close in order to hit the enemies. Most of the time I just hit the air. It's very frustrating.
-The skills animation is boring, Dragon Age 2, again, did a better job on this.
-No autoattack, seriously Bioware??
-Too much grinding. Most of the time is used to pick up the herb, shard, running around to put landmark like an idiot. I prefer more combats instead of picking up herbs.
-Unnecessary romance locked choice. Why can't a male Inquisitor romance with Cullen or Blackwall? Why can't a female romance with Dorian???

Overall: I wouldn't even play this game if it is not about its story.

First things first... Am a white straight gamer.. that`s really a Nazi Zombie as far as reputation goes these days and this game will remind you plenty that this game is not made for making me have a fun and evil male power fantasy.

The Sosial Justice Theme is there , for each 2 scouts for the inquisition you meet one of them is gay and you WILL be told about it. Its not too much in your face but it can get a bit tokenism and annoying.

Its ofcourse issues with companions yelling out but its low and tolerable.
The main problem is that the companions are so dull you dont really care who they sleep with and all the women look like men anyway so u wont really be thrilled about any form of romance. And that will be fine since there is only one straight woman to romance in the game.

Combat is also boring and the plot is a 30 fps blur that i couldnt care less about after just a few hours.

The quests are straight from a mmo, kill 10 goats for meat. and about as epic as a trip to wallmart

This is basicly Dragon Age 2.5 , a bit better plot, a bit less bisexual, allot more dissapointment.

Enviroments however looks great. and thats basicly the only thing i feel they did right

Take my advice, save your money for Witcher 3

More importantly, they had heart. Players felt one with the worlds (and universes) that the company created. This was certainly true with Knights of the Old Republic, Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect 1 & 2, and Dragon Age: Origins. These games are timeless and will always have a place on my shelf even as other games come and go. But DA: Inquisition lacks something. It lacks emotion. It lacks heart. Over its last 5 years, Bioware has catered to the lowest common denominator of gamers. Now owned by EA, Bioware is destroying its brand for mass market appeal. Inquisition is a boring hack and slash that is one part RPG and two parts MMO wannabe. Even worse, it's not optimized and horribly buggy. Inquisition lacks elements that made DA: Origins great while delivering tons of frustrating problems we shouldn't see from a venerable developer.

Foremost, DA:I is buggy garbage. Its hardware demands are outrageous even on modest settings. On Ultra it merely looks OK. But older games like The Witcher 2 and Far Cry 3 look better and require less power. Overheating is a persistent issue with Inquisition. And I thought Shadows of Mordor was a resource hog. Nope. DA:I wins the prize. Even this year's terrible Wolfenstein performs better. That's saying a lot. Constant fps drops, abysmal tactical view, and stilted character animations break the immersion. The tactical view should've been one of the best features of the game. After all, DA:Origins provides a pretty good template to follow. Right? Nope. In DA:I, the camera gets hung up on nearly everything. Plus, other problems with the game render it pointless. Most of the time, DA:I won't acknowledge my 360 controller. So I have to log completely out of my desktop, log back in, turn on the controller, and then open the game. If that process doesn't fix the issue, I have to close the game, disable my controller in hardware settings, enable it, then open the game again. Sheesh!!

Gameplay is a mixed bag. Companion AI is stupid and useless on harder difficulties. So constant babysitting is required which makes fights more frustrating (I should say annoying) than they should be. Commands cancel each other out, and characters generally won't perform the actions you specify. The deep AI customization of DA:Origins is not perfect, but better than the tripe served to us here. Inquisition's worthless companion AI and buggy tactical camera means the game is hardly playable. These problems affect the game so adversely I can't recommend playing it on Nightmare.

Leveling up is a bland affair. Forget attributes such as strength, cunning, and dexterity. The game allocates those points on the player's behalf. Bioware obviously believes more options would confuse its new mass market. Diablo 3 does the same thing, and fans don't appreciate it there either. For players who want a two-handed warrior focusing on dexterity and not strength. Nope. You want a mage with huge mana pools and low health. Nope. A strength-focused rogue? Nope. But players can craft. Oh yes, who doesn't want to spend hours searching for elfroot or crafting shoes? Every warrior must have secret dreams of being a cobbler, or blacksmith. *Roll eyes*. Armor ought to be buried in a crypt so I can don it after an epic boss fight. Simple. Rewarding. Better.

The voice acting is laughably bad. Characters sound like they're gargling marbles. Sometimes I turn down the volume so my ears don't explode. And the music, or lack thereof, is completely uninspired. The story lacks urgency. And why would should players feel pressure to save the world? Bioware would rather players craft obsidian fanny packs or whatever. The world is shallow, and attempts at depth come thru corny voice acting and hokie faux religious dogma.

And then there is the tacked on multiplayer. It sucks. Dragon Age was a fine series without it. But EA ramrods multiplayer into every game. All wasted resources that could've been used to fix the dozens of problems with the campaign.

This review is not as thorough as I'd like, but I honestly have nothing positive to say about the game. Inquisition is so buggy it's a beta. Another product rushed to market by EA. EA's philosophy of sale a buggy game first then fix it later is EA figuratively putting its middle finger in the face of gamers. With every release EA is saying a big "F U" to players.

Overall, Inquisition is a failed effort by Bioware to relive its glory days. The game is a step back in all the areas that made Origins epic. Instead, Bioware pushes the same tired elements on players which have worn out their welcome in every other rpg/mmo. Namely tedious crafting, fetch quests, and stripped down leveling systems. So many elements are tacked on, I doubt Bioware and EA are trying anymore.

All in all, if you liked Dragon Age Origins or Dragon Age 2 (I liked both), then do not play this game.

Summary
-Combat is terrible, mechanics are really really clunky, bugged, slow, and impractical. Expect to get pushed back by auto-attacking your enemy so that your next auto-attack misses from the distance. Expect to get stuck on a pebble. Expect to miss your opponent because you tripped him and you can't reach him when he's lying down.
-Story is impersonal. At no point do you feel drawn into your character and immersed.
-Conversation options feel fairly limited, and unlike the two previous games, I frequently felt that my desired path through the dialogue was unavailable. Prepare to be religious at worst, reverent at best.

-Dumbed down, and then dumbed down some more. For those who enjoyed the combo system of DA:O, and then sort of could appreciate the team combo-setup system of DA2, this new version is terrible. The new AI system (that you aren't allowed to customize anymore) is so damn terrible that a pidgeon would offer superior tactical choices.
-Ugly people. For some reason, Bioware decided that everyone should be ugly. No more hotties (male or female), now it's ugly for everyone. (Note that this one is pretty damn subjective.)
-Why the hell are Qunari talking about transexual lifechoices? What in the nine hells does this have to do with Dragon Age? Take your ideological agendas elsewhere you douchenozzles. I seriously recommend you switch your lead writer. (I think he/she would be happier in HR anyhoo.)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I set up camps in all the locations, closed almost all the rifts, killed dozens of groups of bandits/Red Templars/Venatori only to arrive at the end and realize none of that mattered since all I get is a simple boss battle and I win anyway. And I'm not even talking about the pointless war table-only quests for my advisors.

The main story is not half bad, but I expected more. I was excited about seeing Corypheus at first, but honestly did not believe he was all there was to it. Kill one bad guy, everything is solved. Seriously? Perhaps I wouldn't be so disgruntled if I didn't spend 80% of the gaming time doing absolutely meaningless tasks that had no impact on the main mission whatsoever. But the game required I have enough power and I listened to its instructions about the recommended levels for each stage of the main quests, so now I feel like an idiot for wasting time hunting for exclamation marks in pretty bland locations. Skyrim was repetitive too, but it was still more immersive to me. It didn't have the shiny bright colors of DA:I, but looked more realistic.

I would've loved to read codex entries, but they are written in an incredibly annoying all-caps font WHICH MAKES IT A CHORE READING PASSAGES ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE QUN AND WHATNOT BECAUSE YOU JUST DON'T USE ALL-CAPS FOR NORMAL TEXT UNLESS YOU WANT TO PISS OFF THE READERS.

I would've also loved to do some companion quests without them being awfully bugged or unavailable altogether. Not being able to do Dorian's quest was a real bummer to me since he's a great character with some depth (although he, too, has his infantile moments). The advice I got was to re-load a save from 40 hours earlier and try to trigger the quest - no thanks, that's ridiculous, no way am I ever setting foot in the Hinterlands or the Western Approach again. I don't have unlimited amount of time on my hands.

Also, for the risk of sounding like an asshat because in all the 80 hours, I just didn't find the right button, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to make your character walk. You know, walk, like a normal person does. I suppose that from now on, when you write something in the Dragon Age universe, you shout it in all caps, and when you want to move, you run. This was really awkward in some moments, for example when an ancient elven guardian was leading me somewhere at a slow pace and I was jumping all around him like a horny mountain goat.

I had been looking forward to this game for years, but I'm overall very disappointed. There are some good parts, but right now, I just feel like it was all a waste of time and I definitely should not have done an incredibly primitive quest for every random loser that crossed my way, hoping it would somehow help the main cause. The game artificially prolongs the time you spend playing it by forcing you to gather power to progress in the main mission. Logically, once you realize Corypheus is immortal and at large, you should drop everything and stop him and, ideally, only after that deal with some aftermath and possible new problems - but no, you have to randomly click on one of the maps and close a couple of rifts here, find a stolen ring or buffalo there because apparently that's required for you to be able to defeat the bad guy on your own.

The UI uses too big console fonts and nonsense menus-into-menus on PC. But why? I am not playing on TV, i am sitting in front of a 32" monitor.

If we get a patch where they fix the controls and the UI I will gladly give it a 8 or 9, with no problems.

I play on PC, I laugh at the idea of ever playing on a console again unless its an NHL or Mortal Kombat game, and have a rig and a battlestation of a life long PC gamer.
Now that this is out of the way, the game.
I preordered this game. After watching youtube videos of the PC version,I thought to myself, "Bioware are really gonna blow the doors off with this game being that its been so long since DA2 was released".

Well, the game is really a middle of the road game. Its okay. Its not terrible, its not amazing, its not really bad, and its not really great. Its average.
As I mentioned, I preordered this game, and played it for a couple weeks after it released. After that, I have not loaded it up since. Not once. That right there should say a lot coming from someone like myself who plays games and can spend hours playing a game that they like. Not once, and not only that, I can't even see myself every loading it up again.

On PC, this game was neglected for sure.. I can totally see how its been made for consoles, and honestly, as much as I have a problem with this, I still think that I could play the game happily despite of it. What grinds me though is that they (bioware/EA) blatently stated that the PC version was designed specifically for the PC gamer.

What a load of complete bull$hit. Nothing but crap to get pc gamers to open their wallets and spend $60 for a game that truly is not worth it.

The Environments and graphics are top notch. This to me is one of the only things that this game did really and truly great. The engine really works great and although the performance is not as optimized as it could be, the game really looks beautiful. Full marks to them on this part.
Animations too are done well. not incredible, but definitely good.

Some of the banter between characters and the members of your team that you meet are also humorous and keeps it light. This to me is what Dragon Age is really all about. Commanding your squad, exploring together and playing off of each member's skills to complete objectives and grow in power, influence and skill.

Once you get past the above, the grim reality of this game really punches you in the face, hard.
If you are someone who played the previous versions, its tough to gauge at first why you don't care about Inquisition the way you did for Origins and DA2.. but then over time you realize why.

Its because the game really has no soul. It may have the looks, but like finding a partner to get married to and spend your life with, looks are only a fraction of the larger, more important whole. It lacks that feeling that inspires you to explore and play more.. fight more.. proceed further into the story.

The combat is simply not fun. I don't WANT to get into another fight, because fights are tedious and repetitive. AI is stupid, so you're constantly having to worry about your squad doing dumb **** instead of what you're doing. Times that by 3 and its a mess.
Tactical Camera - I don't even know wtf they were thinking honestly. Does anyone use it? I think it would actually be better if they removed it entirely, because its almost added into the game forcefully as it doesn't really gel with the way the game plays otherwise, which is much more like skyrim than dragon age.

Add to that the fact that the skill tree and tactical menu are either noobed down immensely or removed entirely. Tactics menu? Gone. Widdled down to almost nothing. I can only imagine that featuring this was "not cost effective" and would only serve to "alienate more casual players", so they just removed it. Yes, I'm assuming this is why, but I also don't think my assumption is very far off. Skill tree? Totally uninspiring.

Then you have the big expansive world that they've provided. Only problem is that once they created the game world, they had an "oh $hit" moment when they realized that now they had to fill it with content. Oops!
Well, lets just fill it will meaningless fetch quests to gather xyz for the sole purpose of? That's right, there is no purpose. If I wanted to play an MMO, I would. What I wanted was a true successor to Dragon Age.. this game is not that.

I haven't even gotten into the story, which as cliched as it is, still shows moments of potential.. but sadly, its not long enough, nor is it immersive enough to save the rest of the game from itself.

Truly saddening this game is to me. I want to like it, but I don't want to play it. It tortures me, and yet I'd rather choose to not even think about it and just play something that actually provides enjoyment.
I gave the game 4/10 because I know that there are talented designers that have worked on it, and they deserve credit for making it look nice.
Unfortunately, this does not make a game great. :(

The visual effects are gorgeous at times, and the sound effects/ambiance are adequate for the settings. The voice acting is solid, and I particularly liked the style of NPC interactions, which felt like an exchange had actually taken place.

I didn't experience any bugs or glitches, other than the party members sometimes taking up very odd positions (e.g. balancing on a rope, standing on a goat). My party members freaked me out too often for me to like them, always lurking a few steps behind me, and appearing to embarrassingly scatter if they ever did get in my way. It was liked I was being stalked by characters who wanted to be my friend, but didn't ever actually say anything to me.

The party AI and tactics are nothing less than appalling. Mages and rangers tend to pile in to melee positions, ruining any tactics planned, sometimes they just run about like headless chickens not knowing what to do. The equipment and provisions are so clumsy to equip that you can't make tactical decisions on the fly anyway ( e.g. easily swapping from range to melee weapons mid-combat). If you leave your character to try to rectify this by taking over one of the others, your main character then decides the best tactic is to do the opposite of what he was doing under your control, so if you flit back to him, your plans are ruined.

DA:I has, quite probably the worst UI ever invented as far back as I remember, with virtually everything going through the start button each time you want to make a slight change, look at the map etc - this coupled with an over exuberance for useless titbits of lore information completely destroys any immersion.

I really wanted to enjoy this game, but had to call it a day after 20 hours or so, because it just felt like a chore, rather than a pleasure to play.

It was just run of the mill, maybe a bit below. The game play wasn't very good. It was a single player MMORPG at heart. And progress was slow, and the zoning for high level and lower level creatures was very lopsided. Like you'd be fighting wolves that no longer yield experience for your level, and then a level 9000 zombie comes flying in out of nowhere. It made no sense whatsoever. Fighting pointless, grey level enemies then getting clobbered by a red elite just isn't fun.

I liked it, but then all the little things started taking the fun out of it. Gameplay, the world wasn't immersive, it wasn't like DA2 enough for my tastes, cookie-cutter character builds, cookie-cutter NPC's with low-content convo, strange looking people with shiny lips and skin that looked like they were wearing baby oil, poor mob level zoning, cookie-cutter quests, long drawn out missions, slow gameplay, clunky interface, no easier difficulty setting, large low content zones that got depressing and dragged on forever.

It didn't really deliver on what it said it was, like it only made a half-hearted attempt, kind of like they half-arsed it and then said it met their criterion. I didn't really want to live in that world and couldn't get immersed in it as much as I did in DA2. I missed the snappy conversations, easy and quick quick action, and cheesy yet charming Hollywood-style convos and gameplay.

It was fun but the newness wore off. I'd say DA3 was maybe a 4. Which means it really isn't worth playing in the long run. I spent the $60 and at first I liked it, but after about a week when the newness wore off, I found the game to be depressing and disappointed. I'd say it's really a $20 dollar game. I probably won't revisit it, since there will always be something better to play, and if I need to, DA2 hits the spot for my Dragon Age fix.

For these reasons, I must reluctantly chop the game with a big red 4. It's 'almost' an average game that I could replay. But not quite.

Because I hate EA's guts for ruining franchises like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. DA1 was an excellent game, DA2 was console catering piece of crap, Mass Effect 3-endings/Catalyst you know how that one went. DA3 is a game that does some things great and then fails in many other places, lots of potential but the execution lacks in many departments.

Graphics are nice and most locations are well designed, there are many different armor models (a big plus), but faces of NPCs look kind of odd, cartoonish sometimes, similar art direction to DA2 which is not good at all, bald female characters in the character creation get a huge and unnatural looking top of their head. And dont get me started on the unnatural looking ears and terrible hairstyles. Qunari look like humanoid cows. Many characters from DA1 that appear in DA3 underwent a bad redesign and look much worse than in DA1, some dont even resemble the look from DA1. And the game seems pretty big if you explore everything which is a plus, but again ruined by too much grinding.

Combat-the core of any RPG and the place where DA3 spectaculary fails, party based RPG that DOESNT HAVE AUTOATTACK, automatic fail of the highest category, game was obviously designed for consoles and more arcade RPG players, was it so difficult to implement autoattack for PC version? Seems so according to EA. Lack of autoattack makes the combat nothing more than button mashing.

Also there is NO AUTOLOOT and your character does not move when you click on the container, you must literally walk up right to it, also you cannot click on a location and have your character move there like in DA1, you must use WASD all the time or extremely poorly done top view.

Reputation/power points-while it is logical you need to gather influence for your cause the way it is implemented in the game is terrible, you literally grind pointless side quests and farm for ingredients so you can gain enough Power that is necessary to unlock missions. This has two big downsides, first this artificially makes the playthrough much longer and is boring to do, second it makes replayability low because do you really want to go through all that grinding again and again? I dont. They should have scrapped this and do it like in DA1, you need to gather allies through quests. Visiting new areas serves no purpose whatsoever than gather power in usually pointless grinding quests, here and there some quests are more interesting, but that doesnt happen too often. What makes it even worse you cant even cheat on that for your new playthroughs, I didnt find any console commands to get power.

Squadmates-generally not very interesting at all, some are even outright annoying or one sided (Sera/Iron Bull). I cant believe they didnt bring back any squadmate from DA1. I felt zero connection and empathy towards my squadmates, unlike DA1 where I really enjoyed all of them, even those I didnt like because they had character and were well written.

Story and quests-they range from stupid and one sided to some pretty well written ones, most of them are stupid and one sided, also game confines you to certain decisions you cannot reject or overrule, including some pretty stupid twists, that are also lore breaking, only idiots at EA can write, but after Mass Effect 3 ending nothing should surprise us it seems.

If you loved DA1 but didnt like DA2 then dont buy this game, you will be disappointed. If you are really that keen on giving it a try, buy it when it gets dirt cheap like I did. Favorable "critic" reviews are not to be believed, game is bland and lacks depth and atmosphere, has terrible combat and your decisions are mostly cosmetic similar to DA2, while in the first game your choices actually mattered and had an impact on the world, you could choose many paths, goody two shoes, neutral or outright sadistic psychopath, hell you could even execute your whole party except for Oghren and Morrigan. Having Alistair for the whole game and then siding with Anora and letting her execute him was priceless, that amount of freedom of choice is non existent in DA3. EA basically decided everything for you and let you have a few choices that dont really make any significant difference. And by the way even if you killed Leliana in DA1 she will appear in DA3, how? Well the Maker brought her back of course.

EA can go **** themselves with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire for ruining franchises with games like this.

I put the game down because it felt more like a chore than a game.

I loved DA:O and it kept me drawn in all the way to the end, I've even gone back to play it a few times but DA:I just doesn't cut it.

I tried coming back to the game several times, to see if I could get into it but each time failed.

Overall it could have been an amazing game but it sadly fell short.

I have given dragon age: Inquisition a fair chance because I really really wanted to like this game. I have spent an ungodly amount of time playing the first two installments of the dragon age series. Adored Origins and still uphold it as one of the best games ever made, I recognized dragon age II's many flaws but still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Let me start off with what in my opinion is the biggest problem that Inquisition has: The controls. In the first 15 or so minutes or playing i already felt incredibly irritated with how bad these controls are. In an rpg, it is pretty standard that holding both mouse buttons or clicking on a location on the floor causes your character to move, in this game it causes you to attack, which forces you to wait out a tediously long attack animation before you can move again. Which bring me to the second controls problem: the auto attacking. In the previous games right clicking an enemy caused you to automatically auto attack that target over and over again, in this game you only attack once, which forces you to spam your mouse button trough a majority of the game. This is most likely because for a console game this would make sense, as is with most control problems in this game. Looting the enemy corpses is incredibly tedious and much more difficult than it was in the previous installments, which only adds to the irritation. There are many more control problems to go over but since i have a 5000 character max it wont fit into 1 review. I wish i was joking.

Second problem: The gameplay. Gameplay in the first two dragon age games required planning and working out an attack plan before engaging in combat (much more so in origins than in 2) but in this game the combat seems to be completely action oriented with little to no tactics involved at all. 80% of the time you are really just mashing buttons (this counts for normal but also hard and nightmare mode) pretty much all the challenge has left the game and it seems to barely count as an RPG anymore, if it is at all. Another problem with the gameplay is that the RPG elements have been extremely dumbed down: You can no longer assign your stat points to the stats of your choice, you can only have one specialization for your character (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), the skilltrees feel incredibly limited and the skillsets endorse mindless combat. In Origins you had extreme freedom over what your characters ended up being like in terms of gameplay and skillsets, in this game you have option A or option B, which as an RPG fan is incredibly disappointing.

Third problem: Instability. This game has a lot of basic issues ranging from crashing to downright strange and annoying bugs and glitches. I've ended up being stuck in the environment many, many times. And I have had to replay certain parts of the game because of crashes more times than is acceptable. The graphics glitch often as well and some characters look downright ugly and horribly designed. I have a high end gaming PC and an excellent graphics card and even for me the hair in this game often glitched and sometimes even disappeared.

The only good thing i can say about this game is that the characters are excellently written and the environments are beautiful but it suffers form many many issues and bugs that more often than not serve to irritate the player to no end. As a former Bioware fanboy and RPG enthusiast I honestly cannot recommend that you but this game.

Yet the worse thing about this game is the controls for the PC. Buttons all over the place, a Camera movement that was clearly designed for console D-pads only, and unintuitive controls. It's as if the game was developed by console elitist who have no idea what a mouse and keyboard looks like. They probably coded the whole thing through their xbox controller.

There are some good points of this game, but you really have to struggle through at least the first half to appreciate it. The story is all right with some really good characters, a good mix of humour, and a step up on the naughty level from ME. The delivery of lines is painful and has no flow to it, which is linked to just bad timing. This makes the acting a horrid affair to watch and you may seriously consider stabbing out your eyes as relief during cut scenes.

I played as an Archer and found the game practically auto aims for you stripping any challenge away. You struggle with PC controls with its hold right click to use a free aim camera and find yourself in a constant battle with overcorrection wobble.

Then there are moments when the mouse suddenly does comes into play, such as looting the body, which leaves you searching the screen for the mouse cursor so you can right click and loot. I cannot begin to tell you how extremely annoy this is, but the moment you play you'll instantly understand why Bioware must hate PC players.

NPC are actually quite proficient and end up making you look bad. Often battles range on while you quietly become the spectator and deal with any open rifts. Suddenly you realise that you are the NPC "the non-person character/unimportant character" and even though the story centres on you, you realise you're not there because you are talented you're there because you where given a gift by god. It must be what super models feel like...?

The "Mass Effect" combat system seems to be a step back for Bioware in this case. Just poorly implemented and makes you scream in frustration, yearning for ME again. The whole game revolves around holding down the fire button, dispatching enemies, and then wobbling your way to the next group of baddies.

I have played 50 hours on PC version,i have not finished the game and i just don't want to play anymore, this game is that boring.

Let's begin with the cons:

- Multiple side quests...yes,this is a negative here, because mostly of them are pointless and repetitive and accomplish absolutely nothing,i have played 50 hours making side quests and the majority of main quests...i don't want to finish this game anymore...
- No tactical combat...actually i just use the tactical camera to see the weakness of the enemies and nothing else,it's just useless, the game is an improved hack' n' slash button mashing from the previous game, the control is odd also...
- **** ugly character movements and emotions...yes the graphic has improved but the game is just...weird,the armors are ugly, the enemies look all the same and what the hell happened with the badass Darkspawn from DAO?
- **** of glitches...i mean,a lot,people poping in,bears flying,giants flying,two Cassandras in a cut scene,not beginning quests...
- What happened with those nice spells from DAO?Now it is just some explosion or circles in the ground...just meh...i liked the spells in DAO graphically speaking

Now the Pros

- Voice acting is good
- Story doesn't compromise but it's just average
- Mention on the Hero of Ferelden and cameo of the Champion
- Skyhold is nice
- The war table as a good idea, need improvement tough
- Music and sound are really good
- Companions

Unfortunately the pros doesn't even come close with the cons,i actually regret buying this game...even after the deception from DA2...i guess no more Dragon Age...unfortunately they will never deliver something close with DAO that is a masterpiece.

Developers (was it really Bioware?) ... well, they did what they were told to do.
I rated 4 because this game is a nice-looking singleplayer mmo / dating simulator hybrid.

Four words sum up my experience so far with Dragon Age: Inquisition - This is ludicrously broken.

Negatives:

- I am playing on PC, and haven't been able to make it beyond leveling up in the tutorial. After three new characters, I am still unable to level my character up. The game states, "press P to use your ability points," I rush to the screen to level up, and receive the following message, "Some features are currently unavailable"..Flabbergasted, I question, "I'm sorry, wasn't I just told to spend my ability points?"...and it appears as if users on Xbox One and PC are experiencing this issue, in which the "character record" (i.e. level up screen) is locked. Therefore, unless I wish to play the game as a level 1 character and experience NONE of the abilities beyond the base one or two offered, it's impossible to progress further. It's an insult to me as a fan of Dragon Age, as a Gamer, and as a customer, to have to put up with such a grievous flaw in a product. This issue is what primarily resulted in my low score; however, below are some other issues that are far less significant, but still contributors.

- There's a "resource" system in which you essentially have to run around the area mashing the "search for resource/loot" button and listening to its obnoxious "ping-ping"..I don't want to have to hit a button to find resources, it's tedious and dull, and takes me out of the experience. Make the resources/loot stand out more against the environment like in Dragon Age Origins, instead of requiring me to mash a button if I want to gather resources in the environment.

-On PC, the cutscenes tend to stutter as well, apparently, allegedly, due to a 30FPS framerate lock. I haven't bothered to look online for solutions, as it doesn't bother me that much. To those who would say, "It's your computer!!!" I can't really do anything to persuade you otherwise - please go give your, obviously superior, über rig a hug.

- Character creation is not all that in-depth. I found the menus for customizing to be clunky and counter-intuitive. For certain options there's a slider, such as for face shape (there are about 8 or so options), and for others there's a weird crosshair system in which you drag a kind of orange cross across the grid and it changes your character's eye rotation, nose bridge etc., reminiscent of the Saint's Row weight slider system, except the corners are labeled in that. I found this clunky because none of the corners are labeled. Essentially, you just drag the odd cross around until you find something you like - it's a bit haphazard. I would like to have seen more options for hair styles, tattoos et al., as well, but that's just me.

- Another negative of Character Customization; there are no "starter story" options. You can't decide your character's background, you're assigned one automatically depending on your choice of race (of which there are 4) and class (rogue, warrior, mage). Also, everyone starts in the same exact spot...so starting a new game as a dwarf, or an elf, compared to a human, lacks the unique immersive sensation of, "Wow! There are actually different races and classes in this world, and I will be treated differently based on where I come from."

- One last note on Character Customization: There are two voice options. Yes, two. "Average" female voice and "rather manly, not-sure-what-you-are" female voice. Again, perhaps a bit petty, but I'd have liked to see a few more voice options..even just one or two more.

- They still haven't recaptured the beautiful elegance of the tactical view that we had in Dragon Age Origins. Still no surprise finishers (from what I saw, and I do so miss those..) and the combat feels far less brutal than that in the rather lackluster Dragon Age II.

- Tactical view is still...rather odd. If I left click an enemy, for example, a "basic attack" icon might, or might not, appear over my selected character's portrait...so I am unsure if he/she will actually attack the target. It's also odd to move around in the tactical view with "wasd"..it feels unnatural for some inexplicable reason.
------------

Positive:

+ Looks and sounds great. From the crunch of your feet in the snow to the dazzling effects of spells (from the two I saw, as a result of the error mentioned above with leveling up), the game does a great job of immersing you in the action and world.

+ Abilities feel like they have "punch" to them. When a spell impacts, or a greatsword hits, you can see the enemy flinch and it actually feels to a point, as if your actions impacts the target. However, as mentioned earlier in the negatives, the combat doesn't feel brutal, despite that feeling of impact. I'm not sure why this is, perhaps it's because the enemies in this game, as far as I have gotten, have been shades and wraiths.

+ Characters interact more than they did in 2.

+/- It has some form of class-based multiplayer, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Conclusion: I suggest waiting for patches.

Yes, the on-rails gameplay and zone reuse was horrible, but it was still a fun game. I saw how my decisions changed the environment and each time I had to make a choice I felt the weight of it. It was also my introduction to the DA series. I tried DA: O but just couldn't get into it. I've played through ME 3 and part of ME 2. I really enjoyed SWToR, with it's fully voiced dialog and good class stories.

It is true that the reuse problem in DA 2 is gone with this game. But "open environment" is really not. It's some very large zones that you can load into--if you've unlocked them. This is not the complete open, wander where you wish, land of an ES or Fallout game. What Bioware has done right is to sprinkle treasure chests around to encourage exploration. And there are plenty of interesting things to see and do. But I'm already less interested in crawling over every inch--since, in many cases, invisible walls prevent it.

Many seem to think the dialog is disappointing. It's certainly not up to my expectations nor to the level of other Bioware creations I've played. DA 2's group banter was so entertaining. Event the characters in Mass Effect were worth talking to. It was one of Bioware's big selling points with me. What happened?

But arguably the biggest problem I have with this game is the character textures and complete lack of facial expression. It's the uncanny Valley of Plastic Skinned Robots with every dialog cutscene. The graphics and animations just don't feel like they are up to standards for a single player game. Is this a result of having MP in the game? Is the engine just not able to handle better?

As far as controls go and combat. I started playing as a dual wielding rogue, but find that in combat, I spend more time using Varric. I just don't understand how the devs missed this so badly. Melee is a pain. Tactical camera? Yeah, don't use it so much as I haven't found it to be very useable. I must blame consoles. If a game is designed for consoles, the PC interface fails. With DA 2 and ME 2 & 3, I was constantly jumping into the tactical mode to manage a fight. It just seems easier to stand back with range and let the NPCs run around. The statement from the game's producer that said PC user experience won't suffer was complete and utter BS. Menus and character control very much favor a console controller. Why do I still believe what these people say?

I'll keep playing just to finish it, but unless some fixes are incoming, I don't recommend this game. And I'll take a wait and see attitude with any new Bioware game.

I've read every single review here (good, neutral & bad), and it's interesting that many of the low-medium rated scores go into great detail of why DAI is bad, whereas +75% of the 9-10/10 scores are often just one paragraph in length, and seem to do nothing but whine "Don't listen to anyone else's opinion except mine", "I'm giving this 10 purely because someone else gave it a 2" or yellI've read every single review here (good, neutral & bad), and it's interesting that many of the low-medium rated scores go into great detail of why DAI is bad, whereas +75% of the 9-10/10 scores are often just one paragraph in length, and seem to do nothing but whine "Don't listen to anyone else's opinion except mine", "I'm giving this 10 purely because someone else gave it a 2" or yell "troll" or "hater" against anyone who disagrees over the game's genuinely iffy mechanics (broken keyb + mouse controls, broken tactical camera, unscaled 'designed for TV' 10ft HUD on the 2ft PC version, no click to move, dumbed down MMO-style button mashing combat that genuinely feels out of place in a "heavy tactical RPG" franchise, etc).

There are indeed some people who may unfairly down-vote good games on the back of who the publisher is, but in DAI's case the low scores have it right regarding the shockingly bad PC version's / tactical camera controls for DAI and very obvious consolization / "bad port" on the HUD & controller vs keyb+mouse inputs. The REAL trolls are those openly admitting their 10/10 scores aren't a reflection of the actual game but rather a childish fake "revenge score" against anyone who "dares" to give it more than 2-3 points lower than they did. And hating / attacking other people for "daring" to vote a game lower than your own score is just chronic "fanboy" insecurity.

I love this site, and am well aware of some "hate reviews" spoiling some good games - but that cuts both ways and also includes high voting trolls trying to pretend that buggy games are somehow perfect works of art. Metacritic needs a huge "user review" overhaul starting with automatic review deletions for anyone who admits "I gave a false score of x purely because someone else said something I didn't like" as that isn't a serious "review" at all, it's exactly the same "score trolling" they falsely accuse the "haters" of. Another thing that needs bans are the sleazy personal attacks on the lines of "Anyone who downvotes Bioware games must hate gay people" false-flag 'hate speech' accusations, of which I've read by at least two childish 10/10 trolls here. Finally, there also needs to be automatic review deletions / flagging for those who vote up the same game multiple times for multiple platforms (have you REALLY gone and spent $300 buying the same $60 game 5x over for separate PC, PS4, XB1, XBOX360 & PS3 versions of the same game? No - so at least 4 out of those 5x 10* reviews are fake then...

Some people are just going to have to "get over themselves" that not every game you personally like deserves a 10 if it has iffy game mechanics that are serious enough to cause a widespread backlash / complaint on multiple gaming forums - and that's DAI in a nutshell - a very pretty game with a good soundtrack that's completely spoiled by some messed up "console first" input design decisions that have rendered keyboard & mouse input controls highly annoying. Same goes for stupid 10/10 reviews with simultaneous "but I'm just waiting for a patch". A perfect 10 should be just that - an infallibly perfect game in ALL aspects, and DAI is far, far from that with even Bioware themselves admitting some aspects of the PC version need urgently patching.

If this is the future of RPG games, then I need to lose some braincells. More and more it becomes a MMO. They didn't have enough story telling. so they added a load of Kill X of Y and Fetch quest. It seems like grinding is the new way to go in games, as if we don't have enough of those games.

I guess this is a new market for Consoles because the RPG market is relative new on console. But on PC it go's WAY back, and most of us PC gamers expect more then just button smashing and Kill X of Y quests. Otherwise your better of playing WoW.

After the first couple of hours I got so frustrated and angry with the mouse & keyboard controls that I had to quit.

I asked a refund immediately after.

(For the record, DAO was one of my favorite games, I actually liked DA2 and I LOVED the Mass Effect series, ending and all, so no BIOWARE grunge here. Also no EA grunge either, they were polite and quick to refund).

Positives: The game looks beautiful (if a little plasticy), when it doesn't crash... As I wrote the refund was issued immediately so kudos to EA/Origin for that I guess...

As a side note it's incredible that all "professional" reviewers who supposedly played DO:I on PC, seem to be so blasé about the Kb&mouse controls. In my 20 years of gaming I do not remember ever having to quit a game because of frustration (and I have played Gothic 2). Yet it seems that every "critic" simply feels that the controls and UI are not something worth mentioning or have any impact on the rating...

So let me me help some poor souls, if you plan to buy on PC and don't own a controller (or don't like using one) you had better wait for a patch...

Generally speaking, the story writing/momentum in Dragon Age: Inquisition is of poor quality compared to Dragon Age: Origins because the "frostbite engine" took up far to much resources/focus/time. While the "intentions/ideas" behind Dragon Age: Inquisition is fantastic, it never "rise" above the standards of an "expansion pack" on it's own. As a side-note: Dragon Age 2 was actually developed from the start as an "expansion pack" for Dragon Age: Origins.

Dragon Age: Origins did run on the "Eclipse Engine" and Dragon Age 2 on the "Lycium Engine", while lot of bad things can be said about the "character designs" in Dragon Age 2 and lack of fluff features found in Dragin Age: Origins the "Lycium Engine" did a really good job, and here we have the core of the problem: Dragon Age: Inquisition is using the "frostbite engine" that has been butchered into something it's not meant to do, and it really shows.

For the sake of discussion; - If BioWare had tweaked the "Lycium Engine" and put all content/resources/time there we would have had a "true" successor to Dragon Age: Origins that most players would have had a "connection with", but as of now jumping into a First person shooter/car driving engine was a terrible bad call!

Design flaws:
To re-invent a "working concept" is a dangerous thing, and how Electronic Art's could allow BioWare to mess with their best IP like this is for me a riddle since each years FIFA only has some new logos/text and still sell good...

Really, if BioWare and Electronic Arts (with respect said) had swallowed their "inflated pride" and contacted Bethesda Softworks and told them about Dragon Age: Inquisition and if they could get a license to use Bethesda's own "Creation Engine" we would have had a fantastic game. Skyrim (running on the Creation Engine) with player-made mods has support for serveral companions and amazing features. So I am not the least exaggerating when I say: Bethesda's "Creation Engine" can do anything Frostbite does right now much better excluding multiplayer.

But oh no, it had to be Frostbite, and here we are just like with Dragon Age 2, a lackluster story that somehow fails to play out as "intended". The best thing that could happen with Dragon Age: Inquisition is that somehow a dedicated player-base convert it all to a mod for Dragon Age: Origins or Skyrim.

While the PR department did a really good job in sending out copies for "early reviews", everything got over-hyped just like a glass of water in a dry desert, and "design flaws" (aka design-compromises) with a "lackluster story" more or less (as usual) was ignored by the major reviewers.

Why all the dual-core hate:
While most people acknowledge that "dual cores" are in the twilight years by now, it was a strike under the belt to "code in" a software non-start routine for the owners of such computers, even if the minimum restrictions is listed as quad-core to run the game. It might even be so that the "Denuvo DRM" demands so much resources on PC so that is the main reason why dual-cores can't play the game (food for thought)...

Multiplayer co-op:
I found a quite alarming newsflash on the internet "EA to "retire" online support for select games" - and my logical question now is what will happen with the co-op multiplayer and "the keep" when EA decide to retire Dragon Age: Inquisition?
Source: http://www.pcgamer.com/ea-to-retire-online-support-for-select-games

When looking on the "EA Online Service Updates" (their own official list with all titles they terminated support for) I see that the Dragon Age franchise already got hit "Dragon Age Legends for Facebook and Google+".
Source: http://www.ea.com/1/service-updates

With a future like this in store for Dragon Age: Inquisition I would think it really would benefit the game with the following changes (mentioned for the sake of discussion).

a. include a offline co-op mode
b. include co-op LAN support
c. include co-op Direct IP support
d. include "The Keep" as a DLC (for "future compatibility") since something similar was done for Mass Effect 2 when a port was done for Playstation 3.

People who buy DA:I should not have a "critical parts" of the game "die on them" just because they don't have internet access or EA shut down support for their game (remember what happened when Gamespy shut down multiplayer support?)

Final words: Dragon Age: Inquisition does not play well in a semi-open corridor environment. The Frostbite Engine is a fiasco and the Lycium Engine, Unreal Engine or Bethesda's "Creation Engine" had done much more justice to Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Final Score: Buyer beware!

You basically become the tag-along in your party, as opposed to being the hero, because every AI controlled character is leaps and bounds ahead of what you can do stuck fumbling with controls and camera angles.

Alot of spells share timers, so even if you want to use them, you're suck auto attacking most of the time. I don't care how cool an attack animation looks, after you've seen it for the 1000th time, it gets old.

Undefined leveling areas. I'm constantly running into enemies that are 6 levels above me and then being lost on where to go next.

Until the tactical camera is made more useful and I don't have to constantly mash a button to attack, I don't think I could play this game again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. In fact, I have already convinced others to not get the game yet or possibly at all until many of the issues mentioned all over the net have been rectified. Hopefully this review will help me do the same.

I did get some fun out of exploring and the the companion interactions, so basically none of the actual 'game-play' aspects of this game are any good, but the rest is amazing.

First off I have to say the game isn't terrible, it's not great, but not terrible. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get that far into the game due to game breaking bugs. I'm on my fourth character now due to said bugs. My first character, a Qunari, wasn't able to level up because the Character Record was locked forever after leveling in the prologue. My second attempt, a Dwarf, was stuck inside the area of the first cut scene with the spiders and the glowing lady after the cut scene was done playing, unable to do anything. I tried another Dwarf and it did the exact same thing.

Bugs aside though unfortunately you can tell this is a poorly done console to PC port, the "tactical camera", if you could even call it that, is clunky and weird and obviously made for console controllers and not keyboard and mouse. The tactical aspect of this game, and a big selling point for most PC gamers that bought the previous DA games, is completely swept aside and irrelevant in this game due to poor AI programming and lack of tactic scripting the player was able to due in the previous entries. Bioware has obviously catered to the console and casual players with this entry by getting rid of the need to use your brain and instead just running into groups of enemies and slashing away at them instead of giving every engagement thought and planning. And that's fine for console gamers, but PC gamers 9 times out of 10 are not 12 and want to use our brains to gain the advantage in battle and make the experience of every enemy fulfilling and not seem like your just slashing away at a mindless drone.

The graphics are decent if your rig can handle, if not be prepared for hair that looks like it's wrapped in saran wrap. Also, the cutscenes are locked at 30 fps in-game rendering, why? If they were pre rendered cutscenes it would be a different story, but when your normally getting well above 30 fps and a cutscene kicks in and your all of a sudden shot down to 30 fps it's very noticeable and creates stuttering effects. Why was this decision made? I guess it'll just go down as another corporate mystery that we plebes will never know, just like why Destiny was cut and hacked like a Jeffrey Dahmer victim. Also the UI is not that great, giant buttons overtake the bottom of your screen, and a simplistic mini map that shows no detail at all except for icons and your pointer. And good luck seeing any loot unless your standing right next to it.

But in the end the game has a bunch of shiny things, and unfortunately in todays gaming industry that's all it needs to make money.

I would like to start the review with the pro's of the game;
-It has amazing graphics, I played it on PC, maxed it out and I thought it looked amazing.
-The characters are pretty interesting, personally I only like Blackwall, Dorian and Varric, the rest just weren't my sort of companions if that makes any sense.
-A large amount of the story is rather interesting. (Expanded in cons section)
-The soundtrack is completely amazing, the tavern songs are really well done.

And now to list some of the cons, keep in mind that some of this relates to PC and may not be a problem on console versions of the game;
-The tactical camera controls are completely and utterly terrible. End Of. There's nothing to say about this, you have to hold both mouse buttons to move the camera.
-Your decisions do not impact the outcome of the game AT ALL, I decided to put this in here as a big point of marketing for this game was 'Your decisions matter', to elaborate on this, no matter what decisions you make your ending will pretty much be the same, the only thing that will change is some extra or less quests and the epilogue narrative.
-Horses are rather terrible, they do not feel very fast and they're more like skyrim horses (going up near vertical cliff sides).
-A lot of the side quests are rather terrible (Note: I am NOT talking about companion quests, I thought those were rather well done), eg. the monotonous gathering of random things (Such as 30-90 different plants to upgrade a part of skyhold)
-The port is rather terribly optimized, it does not do well with SLI set-ups (flickering textures, stuttering cutscenes, which were also locked at 30 fps, otherwise I only managed to get 40-50fps on near max settings with a GTX690).
-The story feels really rushed near the ending, the first half of the story really intrigued me and felt very interesting, but after a certain point (3/4 of the way in~) I felt like the story just lost all meaning and just wanted me to finish playing.

Now that i listed pros and cons I'll try to explain my reasoning behind some of them. Also keep in mind that these are my opinions, although I will try to give a summary at the end without mentioning my personal feelings towards the game. Firstly, Bioware has done something completely new, or at least that is how it feels, DA:I does not feel like DA:O and DA2 did. It is open-world so that is a large part of it but also the huge numbers of pointless quests, none of the companions drew me in like in the other games (Morrigan, Oghren, Leliana, Alistair in DA:O and Isabela, Merill and Varric in DA2). There are some people that are saying this isn't a valid complaint as 'Oh this isn't supposed to be DA:O2, it's DA:I', and while I agree to some extent, this isn't a new IP, this is a sequel to the Dragon Age series, it's supposed to feel like a Dragon Age game. Also, a few of the characters' personalities changed a huge amount from DAO and DA2 to this game. Cassandra suddenly becomes really sensitive to your cause and doesn't seem like the strong 'seeker/commander' (Idk) that she was presented as in DA2, Morrigan becomes all attached (If you romaned her in DA:O) and says things I definitely wouldn't think her saying. And Leliana becomes the heartless spy who 'does all the things noone else will do', coming from her 'religious' and caring personality of DA:O. The choices!, while they do feel important (I couldn't decide what to do when leaving the Fade) and some are heartbreaking, do not matter, no matter what you choose, you still go and kill Corypheus without the help of your army, just your part vs him, it doesn't matter who you rescued or helped in order for them to join the Inquisition, they won't be there to join you in battle. That part really made me feel like all my decisions in the game were pointless, since the only thing they change is the epilogue narrative. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD: If you decide for Hawke to leave the fade with you, he simply leaves to go somewhere for the rest of the game, after trying to decide for 10-15mins on who should stay behind, they leave anyway. Lastly the controls are really weird, the complete removal of auto attacking (you have to hold a button in order to attack, if the enemy runs away, tough luck as you're going to be standing in one spot unless you're holding the forward key) and the terrible tac cam, but after a little while I got used to some of the controls it felt a little better. Lastly I want to mentioned the inability to be a sarcastic **** all the time, there are 'humorous' chat options, but they are nowhere as good as DA2, which made me love Hawke even though I disliked the setting/repetitiveness.

TL;DR I think the game is rather good IF you want to play another skyrim-eque game, it does not have a lot of the elements that made DA:O and DA2 stand out. It has much more issues than good things about

Combat is shallow, non-tactical, and borrows its mechanics from action-games rather than RPGs. If you were expecting Dragon Age: Origins style tactical combat then you are in for a rude awakening. The 'tactical camera' is no use at all for tactical play, and the orders issued to your party members are soon forgotten. You have to constantly fight against the tactical camera to achieve anything, so you soon forget about it and just play the button-mashing game.

Inventory/skill management is straight out of a console game UI, which is ok if you are using a game-pad but extremely tedious if you use a mouse and keyboard. The basics of what you'd expect to do with a PC RPG are missing, or dumbed down.

Movement of the character during general game-play will give you RSI if you expect to use the mouse, as you have to constantly hold the right mouse button to direct them. Just using WASD is better, but not the usual control for a PC RPG. You cannot left-click to select things, such as an enemy, as that will instead take a swing at them (or loose an arrow/fireball). You cannot right-click to activate a remote object, such as loot/door/enemy if it is out of range. There is no helpful 'move to this and activate it' functionality at all.

Your quick-action bar is limited to just 8 abilities, despite the fact that as you level you can gain much more than 8 abilities. This is a limitation directly from the console version, which only allows for 8 mappable actions.

Unlike other reviewers I have had no technical problems (apart from my male character being referred to as 'she' or 'her' on occasion).

The game looks beautiful, but the game-play is exceptionally shallow - not what you'd expect from a developer that used to be the leading developer for PC RPGs. If you play this on a console, or with a game-pad you will probably enjoy it as a shallow action-rpg'ish experience. As the latest chapter in a highly rated PC RPG franchise it is seriously lacking and hugely disappointing.

After 5 hour of playing, I finally gave up and dropped it. It feels like a big theme park MMORPG. Even Bioware admitted this game was originally meant as an MMORPG, then they changed their mind and developed it a single player game. But for what I have seen, this game can be called a single player only because you are alone in the game, but it keeps definitely a MMORPG structure.

Dear Diary,

today i played Dragon Age: Inquisition again.

First i did one of those main-quests where there are cool movies.
It started with an awesome movie. After that i needed to clear 3/3 spots from bad creatures because they were overwhelming my people. then there was another awesome movie and after that i was somewhere else. In that new place i needed to search for 8/8 memories and 5/5 fears, that was so amazing! Because it wasn't easy. There were so many cool fights on the way it was really awesome. When i was done, there was another fight and then a great movie again. How exciting!

After that i went to a new area to explore. First i met an elf. He wanted to join me - i have no idea why - but then there was a papa-elf that didn't like me and he didn't allow that. So i started some quests to get that papa-elf to like me. I collected 4/4 glyphs, 3/3 parts of a key, a talisman and a letter for the elfs. Plus i lead some kind of elk to one of the elfs.

Sadly papa-elf still didn't like me too much. And then something really bad happend. By accident i attacked one of those elks next to papa-elf and killed it. This is a bad thing because the elfs think those elks are holy. I was so afraid papa-elf would be very angry with me, but luckily he didn't even notice.

So i went on to help the elfs. I collected 5/5 Spindleweed, 10/10 Elfroot, 10/10 canine leather, 5/5 iron, 3/3 bear pelts and after that, papa-elf really liked me. He allowed that first elf i met to join. Since then i haven't seen or met that elf, nor have i any idea where he might be. But i feel very happy, that i managed it!

Until now i had very much fun, but then i went into a cave where i had to do something. I had no idea what had to be done and there were no questmarkers at all. That's just unfair! So i went to the internet and there was a video about what i had to do. I don't know how that guy from the internet knew what had to be done. I guess he must've been a developer.
So before i played on i emailed the developers, that their game is far to complicated and that the next game had to be a little easier. I'd like to have fun ALL the time.

After i was done with that stupid cave i met a dragon. Awesome! There was a huge fight with great graphics and even explosions and fire! But it was far too hard and the dragon killed me. I wanted to lower the difficulty but i was playing on easy already and there was no easier level. After another 8 tries i was able to kill the dragon. That fight was far too hard.

Once the dragon was gone i searched for 16/16 shards, marked 15/15 poi, established 3/3 camps, closed 11/11 rifts and burned dead bodies in 4/4 places and blew into a horn. Awesome! Plus, i finally found a ring i needed to deliver to some person. This time it was no wedding-ring though...
The person i brought the ring to was so happy! To thank me, she asked me to find 10/10 supply chests and her friend wanted me to collect 7/7 letters for him.

Once i did all that i was done in that area and didn't had anything left to do there, it had been a LOT of fun again though.

But then mama told me it's bedtime so i have to wait until tomorrow to play further.

Dear diary, i had no idea RPG's are so much fun! I thought they are just boring and you have to think all the time when you play them. Dragon Age: Inquisition is just so awesome and fun to play. Next to wonderful quests there is just so much of great fighting and so much to collect and search for. I still wonder though, why there was yet no tower to climb to get into the next area.

But before i'll start playing tomorrow i have to write another email to the developers, because that fight against the dragon was far too difficult.

In my Opinion all Places should be worked into the Main Story. Why should i visit a Place in DA: Inquisition when it doesn't has anything to do with the Main Story? Its wasted Time! Of Course i will have some Fun there but i won't learn anything new about the Main Story only some minor Stuff, mostly Quest we know out of MMO's like

"some bandits did this and that...kill em please!"

The Developers said they looked at Mass Effect for DA:Inquisition but this not true at all. When i ignored Side Quests in Mass Effect, some People in the Main Story would be lost and the Ending would be negative (in other Words you "win" but will lose every team mate and die in battle).

In DA: Inquisition i could ignore 3-4 whole Places full of Quests and every damn Teammate Quest because they don't influence the ending at all and i could "win" without any problem.

As the Spoiler in the Ending Scene shows there will be at last ONE DLC to finish loose ends, what i already expected from EA but oh well....

EA and Bioware had a Chance with DAI to release a "Mass Effect in the Dragon Age Universe" and they Failed so hard that i don't know if i will replay it only to see what happens when i change some answers...

Cons: Terrible performance; a huge amount of bugs - game breaking and not so game breaking; SSD and Sli/Crossfire problems; the devs actually recommend playing the game without overclocked hardware, despite most of the GPUs nowadays being shipped factory overclocked; console looking UI again; not enough customization; lack of decent tactical camera; key mapping.

Pros: Despite all of the cons I've written I really love the game. The story is quite good for my taste, the gam eplay is pretty neat. The world is huge, although a bit empty. The companions are the most interesting out of the 3 Dragon Age games (personal opinion). The game feels and looks amazing when it decides to run smooth for more than 20 minutes.

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with the game thanks to the cons section of my rant. I definitely regret pre ordering this AAA bug/crash/stutter fest.
I would up my score once the majority of the problems are fixed. Till then I can't recommend the game to anyone. Please, wait for a patch or two or for the GOTY edition before buying.

P.S. Seems that there are no games made with the Frostbite 3 engine that suffer from massive technical problems upon release.

For: Graphics are pretty and the music suits the style and mood. That's probably about it.

Against: Wow, where to start....(takes deep breath).

DA:O was superb in both it's story line and AI tactical scripting. It was a game where the decisions I made had consequences on things that mattered. Nothing I have done in two playthroughs of Inquisition has mattered. All dialogue choices seem to have the same final result, If a companion approves or disapproves it doesn't matter. If I finish any of the kill X of Y quests it doesn't matter. If I run around planting flags like the game wants me to, it doesn't matter. Whatever I do on the tactical table doesn't matter. It's hours and hours of looting, grinding and farming for no real reason at all. Well, that's not terribly satisfying.

Then there's the watered down group AI which makes combat pretty unenjoyable. Call me old fashioned, but I like my tanks tanking, my healer healing, and my dps dpsing. As I can't instruct my group on how they should behave, I can either micromanage them (oh joy !) or let them follow their innate, and bizarre decisionmaking. The tanks doesn't care if a rogue is bashing on my mage, the ranged dps choose to get close and personal, every fight becomes messy and chaotic.

Which also leads to the combat controls. This game would appear to have been designed with consoles and button-mashing in mind. The abilities you have are fairly uninspired and are frequently on cool-down which means that auto-attack something you're doing regularly. Except....to auto attack you have to move your cursor around with the mob and mash the left button. I'm flummoxed why Bioware would have thought this was a good idea. Sure, I 'can' do this, but I'd just as much prefer to stick hot needles in my eyes. It pretty much means that any melee character is nigh on unusable and is a real deal breaker.

All in all, I can't help but be disappointed with this game. If you're after a console button masher with a lot of things to click, you might like this. But if you're after a fresh, shiny new DA:O, I'm sad to say that it's step in the other direction.

Like many others, I liked DAO, but DA2 was lacking. Bioware/EA should’ve learned from previous mistakes, but this was not the case. There are too many negatives for DAI to receive a good rating:

- The K+M controls are awful.
- The tactical view is horrendous and difficult to use. This was an easily avoidable mistake.
- The tactics and strategy have been severely downgraded, if not removed altogether. DA:O had better strategy, and felt more rewarding using it.
- The combat has devolved into holding the K+M buttons down, and not doing much else.
- There is no auto-attack, which is beyond senseless. This makes controlling the characters much more difficult, especially warriors and rogues.
- The AI is deplorable, with the squad often not following orders.
- The menus are unnecessarily unwieldy – the DAO menus and inventory management were better.
- Having to manually loot is a big pain.
- The game engine is not at all optimised, which is quite disappointing. It maxes out the CPU, GPU and RAM while delivering mediocre FPS. Even with top-line rigs, many have complained about the lag and FPS volatility.
- Unlike DAO and many other games, the game does not stop processing when the user Alt-Tabs back to the desktop. Thus, it keeps chewing resources for no good reason.
- While the graphics quality is quite good, it is still below par for what one would expect for a 2014 game. A modified Skyrim (2011) and ME3 (2012) matches or perhaps surpasses DAI when graphics settings are maxed, and without the lags.
- While the voice acting is generally good, it doesn’t seem to match the quality from the ME series. Something just seems off with the VO in DAI.
- The choice of topic in the conversation menu often results in lines which are quite different to what the user had chosen.
- The party banter is often banal, often discussing matters that are not remotely interesting or funny. Both DAO and DA2 were far ahead in this respect.
- Given the issues with the VO in DAI, Bioware would’ve been better off focusing on producing better conversations and higher quality VO, rather than having four sets of VO (quantity over quality).
- The development of the most important character, the Inquisitor, is completely lacking.
- Likewise, the development of the squad is impotent, at best. The ME series, including DAO, was far better in this respect. Only Cassandra appears to have developed over the course of the game, and is probably the most interesting because of this.
- The story felt quite underwhelming, and severely disjointed. It felt that choices didn’t matter, resulting in no clear good or bad paths, just a whole lot of grey decisions that don’t really mean anything.
- Bioware has tried producing a hybrid RPG and MMORPG, and has failed in both aspects.
- The MMORPG aspect is clearly designed to appeal to those types of players, and keeps users in the game far longer than is justified. The grinding for resources turns what should be an epic game into an unsatisfying slog.
- The War Table is the Bioware’s attempt to introduce some small token of strategy (or at least the feeling of), but has simply reproduced ME3’s failed ‘assets gathering’ strategy which leads to nothing more than an endless variety of flavours of the same type (vanilla). It has no real effect on the game, especially the ending.
- It makes no sense at all, from an RPG perspective, to have the player accumulate power points in order to proceed to the next phase of the story.
- Closing the numerous Fade Rifts, which is tied in to the primary story, has been rendered into another meaningless chore.
- The removal of healing spells and auras has made the game worse, removing a cornerstone of both RPGs and MMORPGs. Spamming potions is the new tactic which feels cheap, and is automatically restocked when travelling back to camp.
- The endless and pointless quests get tiresome; it does nothing for advancing or making the story better. The ‘fetch my pet goat’ quests can only be recycled so much. Someone who is the head of the powerful Inquisition should not even be provided the option of doing these utterly inane quests.
- The neutering of the talents, especially the mage, degrades the game. The option for a blood mage, which is one of the cornerstones of the DA series, doesn’t exist. It would’ve been better to have an option to train to become a blood mage, rather than introduce the three new schools.
- There are no skills, apart from the general ones (Inquisition perks). It makes no sense that these neutered skills should accrue according to some generalised ‘influence’ meter. DAO had the correct implementation: skills become available as the character’s experience increases.

After ME3’s horrible ending and subsequent debacle, Bioware should’ve learned its lesson: focus on the story, the whole story, and nothing but the story. With DAI, it is clear this did not occur. The result is a game that is far below its potential - it could’ve been so much more.

There is little to no responsiveness, impact or story in these quests, defying what Dragon Age is famous for.

The zones are huge, which is probably why there is little in the way of story or interaction in them; they've gone for a quantity not quality approach. They're attractive, but wandering around them doesn't evoke a sense of exploration so much as a feeling of frustration: "I want to go there, but you're not letting me, and are forcing me through all this filler to get to the cool stuff".

The classes have also been watered down, having devolved into a bunch of passive abilities and low-impact active ones that now rely on your standard attacks rather than having any weight of their own, and making combat into a grind-fest, again like old style MMO's. The "tactical" combat, whilst giving a bit more info during battle, is incredibly clunky and counter-intuitive to use, and they've slimmed down the AI of companions so that they never use the right abilities at the right time, do not stay in position or do what you request, and require you to constantly micro-manage them.

Big world changing decisions don't seem to actually mean anything, as they rarely result in any demonstrable change, and the limited variety of customisation available to you, your companions and the keep is a let down.

Dragon battles are mostly fun, but are exhausting and can grow tedious quickly

Primarily, the game becomes a grinding, grating chore, and there's little in the way of story or depth beyond the main quest.

To balance this somewhat, the companions, whilst mostly grating are quite interesting, the keep is fun if stale and non-interactive, judgements are cool, the areas are beautiful, and the main story is intriguing and gives some great revelations, it just lacks any of the emotional weight and depth of Dragon Age 2, which was the high point of the series despite its few, over-blown flaws (primarily repeated environments and enemies).

That's bad enough on its own, right? I'm not done yet. Next, we have character modeling that looked like they'd been edited in MS paint, along with a generous coating of vaseline over the models. Still sound good? Wait, I'm not done! Let's continue to the terrible writing, the main villain being a massive cliche, the dragon fights being boring copy/paste affairs after the first fight, then conclude with: WHY, BIOWARE? People were rooting for you to bounce back after the ME3 fiasco and the DA2 issues. Why would you put out yet another less than stellar game, with glaring issues on PC, then expect fans to bypass all of that, just because of the Bioware brand? I'm at the point where I'm seriously considering not buying your games anymore, if this is the best you have to offer. I don't pay upwards of $60 for bad fan fiction, I pay that for my valuable gaming time to not be wasted. I hope you guys don't screw up the next Mass Effect title this badly, or I am legitimately done with you as a business, for good.

I understand that people move on and you're not the same company with the same levels of insanely talented people, and you have to start fresh with untrained writers, modelers and animators, but if you're not willing to hold them to the standards of the industry, they have no business working on lucrative franchises. I genuinely hope Bioware can turn around, but I'm not holding my breath.

And this was RPG of the Year on countless gaming sites! Its development dances well to the status quo of the industry. It has sufficiently high production values to allow the professional blogging scene to praise it to the highest of heavens without losing face. Never mind that it brings absolutely nothing new to the RPG genre. Years from now millions of people who don't know any better will cite its name as proof that Games Are Art. But the truth is that Inquisition is nothing more than an exercise in treating players with a great deal of condescension. I can sympathize with the notion of simplifying a series in order to attract a wider audience but by God, I can't in good faith recommend Dragon Age: Inquisition even as a casual experience. It just isn't fun.

I enjoyed it for about 10 hours, then I stopped playing due to my work schedule. When my free time opened back up I focused instead on other games (Skyrim) when I had time. The reason for this is while character development in Skyrim is not as improtant, I get more control out of what my character becomes, what I can choose to do, and how I choose to do it. And that is the overall problem with this game. It's still too linear for my taste. Yes you get to travel around a beautiful world but what's the point when you don't give us a reason to. There is definitely grinding in most games, but here it felt unnecessary and unrewarding. The characters, while a vast improvement to DA2, were to me not worth investing more time in. I never had that connection to them like I did with characters from Origins. To even learn more about the characters you have to stop everything and go back to your home-base to further any of that along. This is an RPG and the whole time I felt Bioware and EA were trying to put those little things on the back burner to attract a more mainstream audience.
The story, while arguably an improvement to DA2, didn't really keep me invested enough to want to continue to learn more about the world. If I was able to talk to my party on the field it would have made this game more enjoyable and believable. If being able to travel anywhere on the map and encounter randomly generated events like a dungeon or being attacked unscripted by templars, then this game would have won me over. But it feels like a lesser version of what I've seen. Here's a further breakdown:

The graphics are stunning! The highlight of the game. The cut-scenes being limited to 30fps was slightly annoying, but easily fixed if you do some research on Google. But while beautiful there is not real point to travelling the world because we get no incentive to except to to be able to see an accomplishment pop up on our screen. Call me old fashioned but I like feeling like I personally accomplished something.

I ended up relenting and using an Xbox controller because the Keyboard/mouse controls were driving me insane. They definitely put their energy in making the console controls more intuitive than the keyboard controls and that irks me a bit, but to each their own.

It felt like the game mechanics was an even further step back than DA2 took. I loved the control you had in Origins over your party and how you could control every aspect of leveling. Now you only get to choose your skills and nothing more, no more choosing how to distribute your stats or anything to that nature. You can still tell your party's AI what to do, but not on the same level as previous games. All in all I felt the game was over simplified to again cater to a more mainstream audience.

Also, when did it become a good idea to limit potions on the field? It works for a game like Dark Souls because it works in tandem with the mechanics of dying in game. Here it feels like a half-hearted attempt to make the game more challenging and it feels more annoying to me to have to go around, gather items to increase my potions capacity. This is just my opinion but I find grinding to increase potions to be unnecessary and overly tedious. Even in world of warcraft you can at least buy the potions from auction or a store if you don't feel like making them yourself. Give us the option!

Questing was interesting at first, but eventually it became stale. The gathering of items seemed overly tedious and felt like an MMORPG rather than a standard RPG game. It felt like filler because when you take all that away there isn't a lot to do in the main story-line.

But the biggest gripe I will have for this game is the spamming of the trigger button to attack with an occasional special move. It gets really boring after a few minutes. It lacks strategy or finesse. Sure technically you just repeatedly attack the same way in DAO, but the difference is you don't have to constantly hit the button or hold it down to keep attacking. It's an extra step that gives you no advantage.

So, overall, while visually it's a stunning game and holds up for a few hours, eventually the hype and awe wears off after you realize that a lot of the elements in this game are only there to cover up the fact that this game is tedious, over-hyped, and generally doesn't give you a reason to keep playing. Granted this is my opinion, and I know a lot of gamers feel differently. I'm sure a lot of players will find this game hugely enjoyable and that's fine. More power to them. I would advise anyone looking to buy this to be very cautious and make sure you really want to spend $60.00 on this game, because to me it would have been worth waiting a while for it to drop down significantly in price.

The game has a lot of content, but it is rather boring content like claiming some barren wasteland for the 'Inquisition' that you do not need anyways, because you can always just go and punch the final boss in the face and end this mess of a game.

The character development suffers greatly from the horrible combat. I found the combat to be so terrible that I just wanted the game to end. With such a terrible combat implementation there is no motivation to experiment with different builds.

To sum it up:
Only one playthrough, I am never going to touch this game again. Not fun, not epic, just a huge let down.

Overall I was looking for a game that found a middle-ground between Dragon age: Origins and Dragon Age 2, with a little something extra to spice things up. What I got was a very small amount of the Dragon Age I loved (mostly the lore) and a whole lot of the something extra that, instead of spicing things up, ruined the entire meal.

The closest Corypheus gets to his moment of triumph is at Haven, where he sacrifices most of hes army to destroy a small village, again proving he has no clue what he is doing, in fact i fail to take him seriously, i think Turner D.Century or Egg Fu is better villain than Corypheus.

As for the game it's easy even on nightmare, Main Story is mediocre,Side quests have no context nor do they aid you in your struggle against this laughable foe (Corypheus)
rendering them completely useless or not worth your time.

Gameplay is made for violent 12 year-olds kids, games fast pace and MMO-like combat makes any attempt of skillful strategy useless as game gives you option to just charge in and button mash your opponent to death making tactical screen useless.

Not to mention i want to kill almost every character in the game aside from Solas, Sera and Jossie.Even my Origins favorites like Morrigan, and (unusually happy considering the situation Redhead rouge named ) Leliana.

Overall Dragon Age Inquisition is a mediocre game somehow worst game then its predecessors, made by a studio that is at this point in time a mere shadow of its former glory.

My expectations for the game were that it should have great combat with alot of parameters to fiddle about with - as to be amazed with your tactics unraveling in a glorious new victory - a huge and exciting world with great characters, alot of cleverly constructed dialogue, epic quests with fantastic storylines which made my gut curl as it did with the whole Broodmother incident and huge replay value - because it's DA.

I have now played the game for about 10 hours. I started on hard difficulty, but lowered it to medium because you can't really program and work with parameters for your AI - which was one of the best things about DAO. So, harder difficulties are just annoying; which makes me unsatisfied because I like a fair and decent challenge. Minus five points to my score because the whole combat side of the game is either easy and boring or hard, micro managing and straight in you f'ing face lame.

I haven't really gotten into the story yet. Heck, I barely understand which quest is my main quest cause of all the ridiculous side quest. It's like Bioware have had a corporate **** direct the game because he played Everquest when he was young; it's an out of date way of thinking questing in games should be - look at Dark Souls and why that game is so enthralling to play. Furthermore, I start out as my elven archer, get thrown out of some green rift and everyone start calling me The Herald of Andraste while their saint just died. BOOM. I'm Jesus. Right away. I'm Jesus. I didn't need to strive to get the respect, didn't need to prove to myself as a gamer that I'm worth something ingame. My own war panel straight out of the box. It's so great. Why not just start the game in the end game? That's where all the dedicated players stay and unlock that special gear, storyline, easter eggs etc., right? Nope, Bioware - you're wrong. It's as basic as, and this goes for us humans in general and real life: it's what you strive for that feels important, not the actual scoring of the goal - the rewarding. It's like a build up in a song, and the climax when the chorus hits. This is common sense, but you guys apparently didn't get it. For this I want to give a minus three pointer to my score because story is really important to me.

The game looks great though. I don't really care about that though. For some reason they have placed alot of head sized rocks on the ground for you to jump over - they didn't think of making the character actually being able to walk over them like alot of other games do. I encounter a bug every tenth minute, or something like the rock dilemma, which is just infuriatingly frustrating. Considering graphics, movement and game-feel I'll give this a plus one to my score.

Dialogue? Well, the dialogue is decent enough. I usually never click through dialogues in games, but I can't find myself engaged in it in DAI. Maybe because I already am Jesus. The game gave me the biggest reward right away and now I don't have a reason to be engaged. I think that's it. Anyway, a plus one for dialogue.

And that's it. DAI didn't really live up to any of my expectations and I find it really annoying and weird - the only thing the game had to do was to be exactly the same as DAO, just with new stories, characters and areas. The fact that they over simplified the behaviour system just ruined the whole experience for me right away. They took away the chocolate from chocolate. So now I will go eat some f'ing chocolate and play some DAO - a masterpiece, unlike this toilet paper of a corporate game. And DAI... it's already uninstalled.

Oh, Bioware: get a grip. Listen to your gamers. Do beta tests. Be what you once were: the number one makers of new, engaging and creative RPGs.

Ruben Kildahl saying peace out and f' off.

The game is a total slog of just useless things they tried to consider as features but to anyone who doesn't want to spend 20 hours straight running from place to place to place trying to collect junk. If someone wants to play a game to collect 1000 little things on their OWN time for something outside of gameplay like an achievement great but to make me have to run around like some crack head collecting 1000 little things of LITTLE value annoys the crap outta me. I want to have a strong game and have a character which means something not one which I spend half my game running around because if I didn't do this mindless task my game wouldn't be strong. There was literally a map called the hissing wastes where I put the damn controller down on my desk so it would autorun forward for 5 minutes because it was literally WASTING my time and the map was that big and empty.

Dragon age 1 great, Dragon age 2 good-ok, Dragon age Inquisition failure.
Mass effects 1-3 great except the ending.

They seem to be screwing up more the closer they get to game endings.

For the record there are so many more gripes I have about this game it just isn't worth my time to put them into words because this game is just that bad it's not worth the review.

To me, story must always be the selling point on any rpg game, and DA:I absolutely does not deliver. You should stay away from DA:I because of the story alone, but you may also consider staying away due to:

- Pitiful voice acting (but thanks to Robyn Addison (Sera) and Ramon Tikaram (Dorian) there are glimpses of light.)
- Abysmal crafting system (utterly pointless and useless)
- Too many bugs (they won't break your game, but they'll definitely annoy you)
- Absolutely no choice and consequence (The War Table was touted to be a choice and consequence minigame but it is not. It comes with no mutual exclusivity, no priority, and no significant impact on the game.)
- Combat is hopeless. (I’ll blame it on a pathetic PC port, but it is absolutely hopeless and disengaging. Shame on you Bioware.)

And lastly, a word to Bioware: If you want to do Dragon Age “4” right, simply re-release Dragon Age: Origins with a Voice Pack for the Player Character. Done.

Quests I encountered in my play-through involve going to 4 different places across the map to mark places to build watch towers (I guess you also need to press A when you get there), "solving" the mystery of wolves gone mad which involves going to a location and killing wolves, "solving" the mystery of missing Grey Wardens which involves going to 4 different places and reading 4 journals on the floor, which all tell literally the same boring story, and squashing a murder plot against you which is basically finding items on the floor until you unlock an area which you go and kill everyone there. (Other "side quests," which are hardly quests at all but are what you'll end up losing 80% of your time doing, are walking around killing random monsters with no story relevance, closing tens of rifts that all play the same, and setting up camps---i.e., pressing 'A' at given locations---across the maps.)

Yes, basically all side quests I encountered don't involve actually talking with anyone or making any decision. (Except I guess for NPC recruitment, which is basically "Yes, join" "No, don't" conversation.) If you like this kind of game, side quests which have no story or decision-making, then you'll love this game. If your time has a cost, and you only want to do things that are actually meaningful, then stay away from this horrible game.

Released in late 2014 this game was supposed to be the big rival for the upcoming Witcher 3. In fact, from the very beginning this series was competing with the Witcher series for the unofficial crown of current RPG games. But unlike the Witcher series, which started very well and then only grew to excellence, Dragon Age started superbly and then declined. This decline definitely shows in the Dragon Age 2, which so many people hate, but for me the game that completely broke this series was Dragon Age: Inquisition. It started with big promises of an open world game, which DA:I most certainly is not. The open world aspects are pointless, the maps are either plain empty or filled with boring and useless collectibles. But I will try to first focus on the positive aspects of this game and there are some. The graphics looks very nice, even today, eight years later and it suits the world of Dragon Age well. I like the war table missions, they give you a sense of command, but they have very little actual impact of anything, which is a pity, but more about that later. The crafting system, while it has many flaws and can be pretty confusing to first time players, is still a nice addition to this world. And sadly that is about it. Now I must bring up the negatives, of which there are many. First of all the two major ones, that completely ruin the Dragon Age experience for me. First one is the lack of choices. In DA:I, you play as the Inquisitor, arguably one the most powerful men in the whole Thedas and yet your choices are cosmetic at best, usually there are not any choices to be made at all. What a stark difference with the two previous installments, where your actions had a huge consequences on the world. This is absolutely unforgiveable to me and I cannot think of a reason, why this vital part of the Dragon Age experience was not included in DA:I. The second big problem for me were the companions. In Dragon Age I always reveled in building strong and passionate relationships and rivalries with your companions. In DA:I, the companions are mostly badly written stereotypes of certain Thedas races. It is really disheartening to see yet another great aspect of the DA world being destroyed and spat upon by the developers. Sera of course springs to mind, this incoherent elven lesbian murdering proletary. Or Cole, his story is actually an interesting idea for a character, but somehow he winds up as a self hating crybaby, who for some reason (same as Sera) cannot form a coherent sentence. The best characters in my mind, Varric, Leliana, Cassandra were mostly just taken from previous Dragon Age games. Generally I have a strong feeling that SJW elements were forcibly and unnaturally injected into this game and into many characters. It frankly disgust me. Like the strong woman archetype, which is so prevalent that almost all the important NPC in charge are women, while men generally play menial roles and of course ugly, ugly, racist enemies. Ridiculous! But there is so much more that is wrong in this game. The combat is even further simplified from the DA2 which together with the botched tactical camera and of course the never fixed mid combat freeze bug makes the combat in this game awkward and clumsy. What a decline from the times of DAO, where the combat was just a pure tactical heaven. Another big change is the omission of healing spells, that of course changes the tactics dramatically. The one good thing that could have come from this change would be more freedom in party composition, but no, you still have to have a mage, because of the new barrier spell. Actually if you have two mages in your party, every fight is a faceroll. I do not think this is balanced at all. The changes to the approval changes are also for the worse, it is really unpredictable and it happened to me often that I had no idea how a companion would react at all. Horse riding is badly animated and awkward and seems unnecessary. Also the main story is full of cliches, the main antagonist is a racist wanna be god, who wants to destroy the world, what a nice black and white painting the developers have painted for us. The introduction of Skyhold, which happens just out of the blue, here is a huge castle for you. There is plenty of weird cliche time travelling magic, that does not make any sense. And I could go on. But I believe this is enough to illustrate my point. The game is also riddled with microtransactions (loot boxes, horse armor DLCs, etc.) and, as mentioned above, with a lot of SJW nonsense.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is not a completely bad, I was able to enjoy bits and pieces of it, but on the whole it was a big disappointment for me. Final Verdict: 40%

Dai commits and bioware commit yet again the biggest crime of destroying a legendary fanchice that had deep customization many and useful spells and abilities and a lot of skill slotsto implement them and play around with myriad different builds and ways even if you played the game a builds do not exist here. You only have 8 skills lots with 2 or 3 being always taken by 3 must have spells especially if you play on nightmare which you should if you want an rpg experience otherwise rpg is the wrong genre for you. The only 8 skill slot limit do nothing to the game play or the combat other that making it repearive and destroying the possibilities of having characters that are good with different abilities on different situations. The ai tactics that were one of the best things in dragon age 1 and even the bad 2 are removed Co pletetly and now you are left with stupid ai doing nothing right especially not the combos. You can't andthere aren't any good debuffs or buffs since the aspect of healing buffing and debuffing or heavy control speabilities have also been removed to linear spammable boring and bad spells. The bad abilities and the game play chosen make it impossible and boring to play with fiendy fire on which is the way any rpgs should be played by the way. And that is only criticizing the combat. The game offers nothing but click and kill quests boring keep managent and blant open world areas. I don't know how bioware from the legendary kotor Dao me etc has been brought down to this and I can't play only EA for it. You will only like this game if you don't play rpgs in general and haven't played any good ones or if you are an ultra casual gamer playing 1 hour a week. 5th time or more. Dai feels like a Expand

I really can't get into this game as hard as I try... It feels soulless and they tried to go for to much at once. Buggy. My girlfriend and I both tried starting new games and about 2 hours in, the game froze up and had lots of bugs. Besides that, I didn't like switching to different party members and using time based tactics. It was too simple in the wrong ways and too complicated in other wrong ways for my taste. I got rid of this game.

Deeply disappointing.

DAI is another dumbed down, consolised mess of an 'RPG' (it's really just an action game in disguise). Specifically 1. PC controls are an abomination - if you're going to play it on a PC without losing your mind get a gamepad. 2. No auto-attack - non-nonsensical decision apparently to give the button mashing console kiddies something to do. 3. Tactics

DAI is another dumbed down, consolised mess of an 'RPG' (it's really just an action game in disguise).

Specifically

1. PC controls are an abomination - if you're going to play it on a PC without losing your mind get a gamepad.

2. No auto-attack - non-nonsensical decision apparently to give the button mashing console kiddies something to do.

3. Tactics are gone - meaning you've no way of modifying your party's behavior meaning you either have to rely on the crappy AI or micromanage every single action.

4. Tactical camera is appallingly bad.

Easily the worst of the 3 Dragon Age games - avoid.

The masters over at Bioware have done it again. This epic journey into the world of Thedas will steal more than 100 hours of your time, hours so full of superb gaming that you'll never forget them.

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
