This edition is identical to the XBox One version (Microsoft, d'uh). So I'm slapping down my XBone review below. Enjoy both the review, and also the game :-D

There had never been a time when I didn't enjoy your run of the mill brickbreaker game. From Arcades to my first Amiga to my first BlackBerry, I've been sharpening my breakout skills for several decades now. Doughlings: Arcade definitely put me in the 5th gear from the moment I downloaded it, all the way through the sweet story mode, and all the way to the depths of the level creation engine.

First off this game has really cool designs. The characters and the backstory is a adorable as it can be. The original world created for this game universe seems sizable and expansive. The controls are hella smooth and the power ups are incredibly satisfying. So much so that when the timer on them runs out you are left wanting more, which in turn makes you work harder to achieve the upgrades in the RPG style lab that enables you to keep the upgrades for longer and utilize even further satisfactory versions of the Show off attacks.

There were 75 regular levels across 3 worlds that were different enough from each other to keep things novel. Additionally there were 15 secret levels where the goal of the level changes and it becomes more of a strategic battle. I actually wish there were more of these alternative secret levels. You keep facing more enemy varieties as the game goes along and it helps things never get stale.

The level creation engine is made pretty robustly and I did end up spending a good bit of time on it. Playing games is one thing but designing them seems to be a whole other art form. At first I fumbled all over myself while trying to create levels. But then I played through the story mode again with a critical eye and picked up on a lot of design elements that I was able to express myself with in the engine. I enjoyed the fact that so many other players from all around the world and across platforms played my levels and I don't even have the top score in some of them.

This game is the most technically advanced edition of a quintessential arcade classic. Considering how cheap it is, it is an incredible value. Just grab it and power it up whenever you feel like breaking some bricks, as you've probably been doing for decades at this point.

Once I became aware of the Doughlings line of games, I had to try the brick breaker version and I have to say that I am very impressed! I spent hours playing this type of game on my blackberry back in the day but playing it full screen with the awesome power ups adds a whole new dimension to it. Difficulty gets a little crazy at the end but definitely worth the "dough".

The game is a very solid (and long overdue) entry into the genre and an excellent buy at $4.99. I was expecting another shooter but turns out it's an Arcade Brick-Breaker! System is different but the main DNA is overall the same. Before the Invasion, our protagonist Morpheus, tries to saves its people, so rather than banishing Invaders with weapons this time, he cures it's people with the ball he invented. We simply throw & catch the ball, not to destroy but cure our friends to finish the stage. I've found out that, the DNA mechanic implemented to sequel thanks to its successor Doughlings Arcade. It was a clever and fun aspect, which felt fresh and unique for the game. It also made us take harsh decisions in the nick of time. There are different characters except Morpheus which I found entertaining. Doughlings: Arcade is an insanely fun game, just like it's sequel and Im happy that I've gave it a shot! I'll also try in other hardwares and let you guys know bout my experiences. I definitely recommend this game, especially for brain exercising, it's a great stress killer, unlike it's sequel! :) Expand

Has Doughlings: Arcade succeeded on its mission to bring the classic brick breaking game with some modern features to the screens of 21st century computers? Let’s start with the game pros - classic brick breaking concept that aged well, successful mix of Breakout and Puzzle Bobble concept, good level design, the presence of power-ups and permanent upgrades, reasonable difficulty, online leaderboard, responsive controls, nice graphics and good sounds with great dubbed narration. And here are the game cons - unpredictability of ball bouncing direction when hitting Morpheus, low originality of upgrades and power-ups, very low variety of game backgrounds and music, absence of local multiplayer and creeping stereotype.

    Pros:
    - classic brick breaking concept
    - good mix of Breakout and Puzzle Bobble mechanics
    - level design
    - power-ups and upgrades
    - balanced difficulty
    - online leaderboard
    - controls
    - graphics
    - sounds with dubbed narration

    Cons:
    - unpredictability of ball bouncing off Morpheus
    - originality of upgrades and power-ups
    - variety of game backgrounds
    - repetitive music
    - no local multiplayer
    - creeping stereotype

Doughlings: Arcade is quite a good attempt to bring the traditional brick breaking gameplay mixed with Puzzle Bobble mechanics and refreshed by some new features to the modern PCs. It is easy to learn, has dynamic gameplay with short levels and responsive controls. This makes the game suitable for family playing but it is badly missing the presence of some form of local multiplayer. I have enjoyed this game for a while but cannot simply overlook its flaws and the feeling of early stereotype, so I am giving it Thumbs Up and VideoGaming Father’s Index 7- out of 10 - still recommended.

Doughlings: Arcade, at first glance, may seem like an outdated game from the early 2000s, but spend a bit of time with it and you'll soon see it's a fun, modern twist on a classic.
