    Looks pretty but the movement is painfully slow. A bit of a frustrating experience. Enemies can spawn out of cleared corridors, which feels odd.

    Doom 3 has aged remarkably well. Even today, it retains a relatively pleasing visual appeal. Its ambient sounds and atmosphere are truly exceptional. Despite having completed it numerous times over the years since its release, I still find myself startled and experiencing unsettling sensations at night while wearing headphones. (Something that modern horror games struggle to achieve.) TheDoom 3 has aged remarkably well. Even today, it retains a relatively pleasing visual appeal. Its ambient sounds and atmosphere are truly exceptional. Despite having completed it numerous times over the years since its release, I still find myself startled and experiencing unsettling sensations at night while wearing headphones. (Something that modern horror games struggle to achieve.) The level design was crafted by a genius; believable maps like these are a rarity even in the present day. One genuinely feels as though they are navigating through a functional facility. If hell truly exists, then within it, Dr. Betruger will be haunting you with his eerie laughter.… Expand

    The best DooM ever created. The best sound in the videogame industry (Trent Reznor soundpack, if you want even more). Top notch horror, top notch shooter, the last masterpiece from ID software. SHOTGUN FIX MOD is strongly RECOMMENDED! Flashlight mod too, but do not use the flashlight all the time and do not use the SoulCube, guys.

    This is the best Doom experience. Dark, creepy, fun, slow burning tension, and lots of Horror in a sci-fi setting. The story is simple but not bad, and thanks to the graphic style everything has a certain... "weight", a certain presence, that makes you feel like if you were trapped there, surrounded by monsters, lonelier with each passing second.

    Brutal.

    I do have mixed feelings about the jumpscares. They started to feel like overkill not after a long duration of my single player expericence. Then again, when I came back to this game recently, I was somehow pleasantly surprised, simply because I wasn't expecting some of 'em.

    Doom 3 is amazing. It is the long awaited sequel from its 2D predecessors to the new 3D era. And it did exceptionally well. I enjoyed every minute of it and it marks the beginning for my modern age gaming, because of the enormous upgrade in graphics.

    In Doom 3 you play as the good old Doom Guy that we know and love. You did not get a name to keep the mysterious character of “Doom Guy” intact. You arrive on Mars as a soldier, ready to join the military there. You already have been given an secret assignment and need to see your superior, Sergeant Kelly to discus further details. But once there, all hell breaks lose and your arch nemesis attack the base. You get your trusty shotgun and start killing your way to the Mars station to clean up the infestation and, when possible, try to rescue your fellow humans stationed on Mars.

    All the classic enemies from Doom I and II are there. The Imps are ready to throw their annoying fireballs at you once again, the zombie soldiers point their rifles at you and the Revenant is just as overpowered as he was in the previous games. They added some new enemies and they are well done. I have to say that the baby-mermaid-fly abominations really creeped me out the first time I encountered them. They came out of the blue and took me by surprise.

    Doom 3 has some unique features, especially for its time. You interact with a lot of monitors and displays without entering an overlay GUI and use those screens for opening doors, read lore and information about the station on Mars or just to play a nice game of Turkey puncher. The use of your PDA is also a very nice feature to keep all your lore, weapon information, quests and map in one place. It is organized and I like it very much.

    The AI in Doom 3 is also incredibly decent. They react to your movement and when you stare too long at their computer screens, they get annoyed and let you know. Later, the possessed zombie soldiers use cover and actually use tactics and care when attacking you.

    The graphical upgrade from the previous installments is legendary in contrast. It looks really beautiful, while still maintaining that classic dark corridor theme from earlier installments. The new weapon models, enemies and environments was, and still, is amazing for its time. I especially like the really clear and sharp text that is displayed on TV screens and computers and many times you can interact with it.

    Doom 3 has one of the best sound designs that I experienced in games so far. The effects for loading your weapons, shooting your weapons, bullet impact, enemy hits and the screams and death rattles of your foes is just epic. You can almost feel the impact of your shotgun, blasting an Imp into oblivion and the scream it makes afterwards lets you know: “Oh yeah, I murdered your ass”. There is almost no ambient music, so you are left with your own thoughts and the creepy unexplained sounds in the distance.

    The overall upgrade from Doom I and II is just great. It is fresh and new, while still remaining faithful to the original series. It really feels like a well-deserved sequel and id software can be proud of themselves for creating this gem.

    Doom is supposed to be fast, fun, quick, and supposed to make you make a decision every second, with your back up against the wall with you versus 30+ demons in the room. "Puzzles" involve either choosing hallways or finding keys, both of which are easy, fun, quick, and fit in with the fast paced game style. This game has none of that whatsoever and instead shoves its head completely up its own ---. You move slow as a snail, the whole game is just ammo management.

    Not being able to have your flashlight out at the same time, in Doom 3, perhaps the game with the least light in it in the history of time, was a stupid mistake. If you see anyone saying this was a good idea, you need to immediately disregard their opinion. When they re-released this game they had a feature where the flashlight is on your suit so you can have it on... but it has a battery so you can only have it on for 30 seconds or so. Which means you just stop and wait for it to re-charge. Nothing can save this game, just nothing.

    The Shotgun
    This is quite literally the game that started the meme of useless video game shotguns. The shotgun. DOES NO DAMAGE. AFTER 2 FEET. You NEED to move up to them until you get blocked by their body, then shoot. It is THAT useless, and the game expects you to use it for the first 2 hours. Most players give up and switch back to the pistol which, is harder and annoying. Of course, when zombies use the gun, it's GOOD for them against YOU!

    Zombies playing dead gets old
    Literally every single room has a zombie on the floor or a chair. This scares you the first time, after that it literally becomes a checklist item where you shoot them with 1 pistol round to see if they are alive or not. Oh wow, sure let's stop every 2 minutes and check if the zombie was alive. Oh wow it was. Amazing.

    The PDA and Lockers
    Do you want to sit there and listen to some guy who's dead now talk for literally 3 minutes as they try to inject a fake background story about life on the base, just for the 5 second part where he says the door code or locker code with a key in it you need? All they did was hire some voice actors to have an excuse to make you waste probably a combined total of 4 hours or so. NO, these are NOT optional and do NOT have text you can speed-read through. Look forward to opening multiple e-mail chains to find door codes as well. LITERALLY every game ever made, even ones at the time, just do it the good way which is "you picked up the thing, you have the code now, go open the door and it will be used automatically".

    Martian Buddy website is gone - Several lockers can't be opened anymore unless you google the code from other sites. They had a cute little website as a joke, which worked but it's gone now, and it shows how much they care about this game.

    Forced puzzles
    They have a crane puzzle where you completely stop the game and sit there for 5 minutes while you ---- around with a crane. They re-use it a bunch of times. There's a bunch of useless puzzles like this.

    Bosses - There aren't any except the Cyberdemon, and you defeat him in the most p---y way ever.

    Story - Forced, garbage, barely there. Not expected to be in a Doom game, but they tried and failed.

    Air - Pointless limitation when you are outside. WHY is this in the game?

    Demons look nothing like anything else. They are HR Geiger "inspired" and it doesn't work. The Cacodemon in particular looks awful.

    Soul Cube - Once you get it you basically can't be killed unless you want to be.

    Double Barreled Shotgun is only in the expansion which nobody played. Come on seriously? What is Doom without the double barreled shotgun? How could they mess that up?

    Platforming - There's platforming in HeII, this is as terrible as you think because of how slow you are. Lots and lots of cheap deaths.

    They didn't even get the helmet right. HOW COULD YOU MESS THAT UP? They made him go without his helmet to seem more "vulnerable".

    Obviously, the graphics were mind blowing at the time and held up for 5 years, and still look ahead of their time even now. That doesn't help the game nearly enough. Doom is about gameplay.

    Doom 2016 is the real Doom 3. 2016 is incredibly fast, fun, basically.... modern Doom. Again, if you see anyone saying 2016 was bad, disregard their opinion.

    4)Graphics and sounds. It kinda for atmosphere, but I wanted to make point on it. Game have really awesome graphic for this time and really great, scary and atmosphere sounds.
    So yeah Doom 3 is great game, that always gonna be in my heart. The way you feel like you really on mars is really great. This game kinda changed me. Before compliting this game I kinda liked horrors and this atmosphere, but wasn't that much interested in this. I wasn't even watched any famous horror movies, but this game just changed me. After compliting it I'm since this time really loves horrors, scary atmosphere and etc. So I'm definetly gonna say that Doom 3 is awesome game!    … Expand

I always liked doom 1 and 2, but by 2004 i was already on board with horror games, so doom 3 taking horror approach was just perfect. I think lots of people who's first doom was 2016 doom, will never understand greatness of doom 3, butDoom 3 was actually solid horror game, especially by 2004 standards. There are lots of quality mods to download for this game as well, most notably Redux, Phobos, Last ManWhereas the previous Doom games were pure action against hordes of demons, ID Software decided to present DOOM 3 as a hybrid of action and survival-horror. The graphics, sound, and environment in this game are top-tier for 2004. The story is also surprisingly detailed for a DOOM game. There are lots of quality mods to download for this game as well, most notably Redux, Phobos, Last Man Standing, and Classic Doom 3. Since I especially enjoy mods that are funny, I also recommend Infernal Death Orgy, Duck Nukem, Bubba Lego-Tep, X-Mass, and Damnatio Memoriae (ep. 1 and 2).… Expand

    El alma de los Doom anteriores pero en una carcasa diferente. A diferencia de la mayoría de personas DOOM 3 se me hizo muy divertido y disfrutable a lo largo de toda su campaña. La ambientación mas sombría y oscura es un buen cambio para la saga y funciona perfectamente, su mayor problema creo que es el diseño de niveles, muy diferentes a lo que se conocía en anteriores entregas, el 80%El alma de los Doom anteriores pero en una carcasa diferente. A diferencia de la mayoría de personas DOOM 3 se me hizo muy divertido y disfrutable a lo largo de toda su campaña. La ambientación mas sombría y oscura es un buen cambio para la saga y funciona perfectamente, su mayor problema creo que es el diseño de niveles, muy diferentes a lo que se conocía en anteriores entregas, el 80% del juego son pasillos muy pequeños y sin luz.… Expand

Cinematics are a nightmare. Sound design and effects are okay. Weapons are unimpressive and particularly uneffective even against basic opponents. Interacting with codes and PDAs is really intuitive and well thought out. In general, the gameplay is really boring. You only have to follow long and empty halls and corridors. Progressing through levels is a pain in the neck, especially for the five first hours. Five hours : do you realize how long it is ? Enemies sometimes pop here and there but we are miles away from the intensity I knew for DOOM the 1st and II. Multiplayer is a big mess. AI is awful. The story is dull.

    The first game i've ever finished it has very special place on my heart back in 2006 or 2007 can't remember the exact date, the graphics was amazing back in the days well actually it is still beautiful in ultra setting with advanced graphics setting are on

    Doom 3 is a masterpiece a truly one of a kind game awesome gameplay and atmosphere and everything is just passionately crafted the only game that comes close to this is the original F.E.A.R which is also a masterpiece. Furthermore, i can't express enough how much i love this game and its probably my favorite game of all time.

    This is one of the creepiest and most atmospheric games I've played. But, this game is not fun sometimes. Because you get stuck a lot and guns are not fun to use. But yeah I still recommend it, probably play it once and never again.. Not as fun as the original DOOM

I wonder if made under the direction of most of the original Doom team they would have delivered a better third game or reboot as the results by Carmack alone are disappointing. I cannot argue the game is worth playing as it’s lavishly made. Sequences outside of the Martian base are incredible, especially seen from inside a lift or monorail. It’s an interesting vision: turn an action game series into a survival horror reboot with the odds constantly against you. Unfortunately dealing with limited ammo while trying to predict when the next demon is going to jump out is extremely repetitive. Once you’ve seen one haunted house jump scare you’ve seen them all and the plot doesn’t have a huge amount to offer through its bland characters. Bar a couple of locations like the already mentioned monorail segment and a well realised journey into Hell there just isn’t any variety of locations. Compared to the original game even with the same assets the developers created environments that were distinctive enough to be recognised; here every corridor looks the same. I shouldn’t have to keep comparing this reboot to the original but the weird design choices unintentionally creates a whole herd of elephants in a room that need explaining. In trying to be realistic id Software forgot the Doom series always put fun first. Doom 3 is a failed experiment but it remains an interesting one to experience just to see how the series could be reinvented.… Expand

    Да DooM 3 это боевик-хорор! Для сугубо одиночного прохождения, а не для толпы мокрощелок на пьяной вечеринке! И это здорово!
    В игре наконец то нормально рассказывается сюжет вселенной Doom. В ней появились персонажи и окружение, а так же густая атмосфера, которой напрочь не было в первых двух частях. По сути её нет и в игре 2016 года, равно как и в Eternal. Так как в них всё завязано на зубодробильном геймплее и как не странно это работает!
    Геймплей же третьей части стал тягучим как сгущёнка. Этому способствовало и странное решение с фонариком.
    Конечно мне очень понравились монстры, которые после мультяшных, разноцветных гномиков, шариков и нарисованных рож первых частей, производили ошеломляющее впечатление!
    К тому же это первая игра которая меня смогла реально напугать. Когда у меня за спиной с криком, в кромешной тьме, материализовался "имп", я чуть мышь от неожиданности не потерял! А поступь "рыцаря ада", невидимого пока для игрока, поступь которую слышишь через несколько стен? Непередаваемые ощущения, кто играл поймёт.
    Оружие, как всегда у id, это гордость студии и предмет для подражания другими разработчиками!
    К тому же игра достаточно хорошо выглядела для своего времени.
    Единственный недостаток, это непомерная, для того времени, требовательность к железу. Поэтому игра, на сколько я помню, и стала бенчмарком на долгие годы.
    Резюмирую. На мой взгляд очень прорывная игра для своего времени, одна из вех развития игровой промышленности. Пожелание для играющих было только одно: ночью, перед монитором, в наушниках!

    Doom 3 seems so underrated, but for a game that came out in 2004, it's actually really well made. I like the horror aspect and i understand, if some fans don't, but i really like this game. I would almost consider it a classic.

But the tight/tiny corridor feeling just wasnt Doom. 90s run and shoot action game turned into 20s stealth horror game. Remember when you pumped your shotgun into the monsters body thus screaming in agony and falling into the ground? Not anymore. Well this is a Marine that brakes his legs when jumping off from an two feet ladder. And the Cyberdemon only killable with an artifact...

    Untill you discover you can actually put console commands into the game that speed up the gameplay and the game becomes an new experience more like the first two games.

    Back in 2004 it was a revolutional title in terms of graphics but the gameplay is the biggest problem of the game. If it was called anything else, it would be great but it's Doom and players expect a certain kind of experience from it.

    Now what is there is good but it doesn't have the same feeling and although i still liked it a lot and i enjoyed the horror atmosphere it never reaches the point where you get all the big guns and a bunch of large monsters to fight at the same time The only point where it feels like old school doom is in a couple of the last levels but that's just not enough. Even then, you can use an artifact to make it a lot easier - something a huge fan of the series like me just won't do because i want to blast away with my BFG.
    The last boss is a part of the problem above and is laughably easy. The fight could have been handled better if the additional monsters in the arena were of the larger, more dangerous variety but we got an overall disappointment.
    The game has a very slow start and the tempo never quite reaches a satisfying high point. As mentioned above, there are a couple of levels towards the end that are great and one a bit after the halfway mark of the game, otherwise it's a slog that only Doom fans will voluntarily go through today.    … Expand

Только тут надо стрелять раз в 5 больше чем в ХЛ, ну и сюжет соотвественно тупее раз в 5, со всеми этими задвигонами сатанинскими. Короче, F.E.A.R, который вышел примерно через год, лучше и в плане боевки, и в плане хоррор-составляющей. В фире и стрелять приятнее, и атмосфера получше. Короче, полная фигня, лучше в System Shock 2 сыграйте, чем в это.. А так, среди всех думов и квейков наверное только Quake 3 Arena норм, все остальное - душная занудная фиготень.… Expand

    So i just replayed this game on Switch in 2020 and i can tell that this game is not that great. Probably at the time of the release some of the stuff was a breakthrough but gemaplaywise its very repetitive non intuitive corridor shooter with cool weapons.

    Despite the fact i can look past the outdated graphics, the outdated mechanics are a touch more difficult to handle. Swapping between weapons is particularly awkward. The bosses are laughably easy to beat. Somehow, the least satisfying weapon to use is the shotgun. There are lots of tiny issues that are likely even more prominent now because i'm playing the game so long after realise.

    Even so, its a fun game, that's still incredibly fast paced playing today. Most importantly, the tension the game sets out to achieve still holds up.    … Expand

    Its not Doom but that doesnt make it a bad game. It tries to experiment a little bit more and set the game as this half life like horror shooter. Sadly gameplay is kind of meh and story is eeeh ok. Atmosphere is what they were going for i guess and its good.

    Doom 3 is an great game. I know that is not like the original doom or the incredible Doom 2016 reboot, but god damn it is a great horror and action game. I found incredible how they make all the classic enemies scary and the game play was great. Doom 3 might not be the classic hardcore experience that Doom is know for, but Doom 3 it is a great horror game and an awesome game

The plot is very similar to Half-Life. The flashlight being separate from your guns is annoying at first but eventually you won't need it. Saved the Rocket Launcher for bosses. Didn't even end up using the BFG because I was saving it for the final boss then realised you can't damage him with anything but the Soul Cube. So like every survival horror game I play I finished with full ammo in everything lol. Anyway it's a good game that doesn't deserve the hate it gets from Doom purists.     Despite this not being as good as the first two games, Doom 3 managed to be fun in a survival horror, trapped in darkness sort of way. It was just a struggle to even play it on a PC when it first came out.

    A legendary action/horror FPS that stays true to the original Doom games. The downside of the PC version is they removed the cooperative mode that the Xbox version had although there is a fan-made mod.

    What hurts Doom 3 most is that it does not know what it wants: The atmosphere and level design say that the game's goal is horror, whilst the abundance of enemies and ways to kill them point at something far more action-packed.

    1) Fall damage is excessive. You'll lose 20 life if you fall 5 feet. It makes the game less of an adventure.

    Lots of people love to talk crap about this game, but in context, it was a huge leap forward for the series you know, being able to actually aim up and down and have environments that were vast and required actual exploration. Sure it was dark but lots of horror games are so that's a moot point.     I really enjoyed this franchised, so I couldn't let Doom 3 unplayed. It was a very nice game, although I think that after we get the Soul Cube it gets a little too easy. The game looks like any normal shooter, then we are sent to hell without almost any weapon or ammunition, and we really feel like we are playing the good old Doom. The game is grim, they brought back the enemies ofI really enjoyed this franchised, so I couldn't let Doom 3 unplayed.     I hadn't even heard of this game until the release of the fourth installment. So I purchased this game (much cheaper price tag than the new one) to dip my toes in the water. I was a little afraid that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the game as a result of outdated graphics, but this wasn't an issue. The game was indeed repetitive but it was also great fun and it has a great atmosphere.I hadn't even heard of this game until the release of the fourth installment.     Doom 3 was far ahead of it's time. I enjoyed it a lot, even replaying it was fun. It has a great survival horror atmosphere, great map designs , great plot , great optimization that let it run on my celeron back in 2004. I still own the box and it's one of my favorite game of all time, I like it more than 90s doom.

    Levels in Doom 3 are abysmal, graphics are bad and the only reasons it impressed people at first was shadowing. Which aged really bad as well. The game tried to hide its awfulness in design department by taking away as much ligh as it could, taking away flashlight from an every weapon. Some people called it "a feature", but it was just an excuse, because having or not having flashlight doesn't affect gameplay at all (thanks to mods you can test it yourself). Game itself is really, really slow and claustrophobic. Enough said that all levels up to the first boss are really just an introduction, where rarely we will be attacked by more than 2 or 3 enemies. The pacing is really off. Compared to classic Doom games it feels pathetic, unfortunately. There are no secrets, no puzzles whatsoever. Don't tell me that listening to badly recorded audio books for boxes' codes or finding a bonus ammo behind a crate are puzzles. The atmosphere could be good (visuals are there), but the overall voice department is mindboggling bad. Every weapons sounds (and indeed is) underpowered. Which leads us to the worst part: gameplay. The shooting is not exciting, most enemies are slow, unthreatening and I wonder who designed some of them. He/she should be fired (and I hope he/she was).

It doesn't sound too bad on paper, but in my OPINION (key word) it is executed very poorly.     A phenomenal shooter with plenty of scary sequences. One of the best games of 2004 IMO. A must play in my opinion. The graphics in this game, even in 2015, are still great and take advantage of the atmosphere. I prefer the originals a lot more than DOOM 3, but this is still a great modern FPS.

    It was a good shooter game for its time. The graphics were excellent by 2004 standards, with real-time shadows (they look too black and too sharp by today's standards). The gameplay feels very linear, and enemies often appear from thin air behind you - since that's frequently too deadly you would find yourself saving/reloading all the time.

    Wow! Pretty scary game. I crapped my pants couple of times :)) nothing major, but still an inconvenience. Anyway, was fun playing this one. Awesome graphics, really atmospheric environment, cool weapons, good action movie style story, claustrophobic feeling of loneliness and someone watching you. . . BAM! U dead son! :))

    doom 3 combines elements of survival horror and traditional fps games very well. this game is truly quite scary for the majority of its run time and is bloody fun to play.     I have the Steam UK version of Doom 3: BFG Edition and sometimes play the game as well as the expansions: Resurrection of Evil and the Lost Missions but as I still have the original CD's for The Ultimate Doom, Doom 2: Hell on Earth, Final Doom: Plutonia Experiment and Final Doom: TNT - Evilution games I can legally play these games via GZ Doom.     God.
    One of the most overrated game of all time.

To me there's "Very easy" "Easy" "Hard" and "impossible"    This is a modern-version of the classic DooM.

The latter leads to goofy cartoon-gag pursuits around columns and such as the only means of avoiding damage.    Regardless of how suitable a sequel this game is, it's a mediocre FPS.

    Happily, sprinting is fast & doesn't prohibit gunfire. Mobility alone has a nice feel, and it might've redeemed the combat, but for the way it's framed. Namely: ambush after ambush. You are NEVER on the offensive in Doom 3. All good FPSes have a mix of offensive & defensive gameplay, while this one is hideously lopsided. The worst part is once you learn the handful of tricks used over and over by the level designers, you may as well have played the entire game. Not scary. Very obnoxious.

    Some high points are superlative ambient audio design, lots of good lighting design, nice texturework. Shame about the game.    … Expand

    Regardless of its repetetive nature, this is the only game I have ever played that gave me a scare... in broad daylight... in a room full of people... The atmosphere makes up for other less competent parts of the game.

    DOOM 3 is an amazing game. Back when it first came out, I was literally too scared to even play it. Even as an adult now, the game still has it's frightening moments. With a massive weapon selection and immerse story line, you can get lost for hours in Mars City killing demons and sending them back to Hell. A true work of art.

    A great game even after a decade its a timeless master piece. If your looking for a good fun adventure with tons of violence gore and exploration. The story isn't good but the game sure is and for a cheap price of just ten dollars its worth it.

    This game is an old classic. its good horror and fun to play. i recommend this game for the fans of scary games. Now days this game is a little old fashioned and wont look that good i guess, but i think this game is great in any other way.

    When this originally came out it blew my mind. Unfortunately since then other people have took similar mechanics and ideas and took them to the next level so this is no longer an essential purchase. It is however worth it, especially for the atmosphere.

    The graphics were stellar for the time of 2004 but does not hold up too well. The music consists of the title music but the sound effects are Eire and the games tone is nice and dark. The story is almost non existent taking a back seat to the action. The levels are largely the same and the multiplayer is lack luster. Doom 3 is a nice action horror game but the AI, Story and Variety need a little bit of tweaking.

    I give this game a 6/10

    A masterpiece. Deep atmosphere and immersion. You play the role of a space marine as you investigate some serious problems going on in mars base. The AI is brutal and the terrain can be confusing but that is just a test of your survival capabilities. I hope you have good reflexes.

    So perfectly constructed, so deliciously immersive and downright elegant, that demands for more seem crass. It might not be the very best shooter out there, but it's the more visually stunning and successfully atmospheric than any game we've had the pleasure to play.
