This has to be one of the clunkiest and half-hazardly put together games I've played in a long time. They took the only interesting aspect of The Edge Of Time which was the VR experience and tossed it out the window for a game aiming to be console friendly. The controls are clunky, and for those who want to change them in the settings, you can only change the aspect ratio, gama, and v-sync. The idea to launch a game with the released less than bare-bones settings is downright unbelievable.

While it's nice to see some new content in the game, it's overshadowed by just how uninteresting it is with a game that seems to have been put together by 3 students as their final project in a game development class. The Doctor Who Adventure Games of old as well as Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock run so many circles around this game that it almost reverses time itself to an age where we actually had real talent and passion baked into games set in the Whoniverse. You know how bad the game has to be when not even the great David Tennant can save the story or experience. It's like having the worst meal of your life with an old friend, you're happy to see them, but hate that it had to happen like this.

It's safe to say that if you are looking for a good Doctor Who video game to sink your teeth into, you better get back to looking. Because The Edge Of Reality is most definitely NOT what the Doctor has ordered.

The story of Doctor Who: Edge of Reality follows the classic canon of the series, developing very vigorously and featuring interesting plot twists and a stunning end. The game is worth playing through, but the number of bugs and glitches interfere with the enjoyment and can force you to restart your playthrough. The idea and certain features such as the mechanics of riddles, musical accompaniment, the story of a huge universe filled with detailed lore are amazing, but the realization leaves much to be desired.

It’s a fairly bog-standard sci-fi show at the end of the day, but it’s mine and many’s favourites because of the Doctor. The Doctor is the show’s edge, a lovable idiot that’s too smart for their own good tying everything together, ending up in random situations and being forced to interact with strangers to uncover plots of intrigue. We do none of that here. You go to A, do what you’re told, go to B, do what you’re told, until the game ends. Given how short it is, you’re better off watching a few episodes from the show, because this is barely Doctor Who, let alone a good game.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality is a game for people who are already fans of the television show and care about the characters and all the references to their past adventures. If you come into this experience cold you will need to constantly consult a wiki or a video to understand what and why you have to do. Even for fans, a straight-up television arc based on the concepts of the video game might be more enjoyable.
