Breath of fresh air with elements from Baldur's Gate, Ultima, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dungeons and Dragons, and Dragon Age. SCORE 95/100.

Truly challenging, deep, immersive, and entertaining. It does not hold your hand in any way and is not for casual gamers. Old school RPG fans will need a change of underwear.

    Fantastic game.
It draws heavily from old masterpieces like Ultima or the Baldur's Gate serie, giving the player a world to explore and enjoy. Fantastic game.
It draws heavily from old masterpieces like Ultima or the Baldur's Gate serie, giving the player a world to explore and enjoy. It feels like a real, living world and there are a lot of quests and stories all around, dozens of things to do, from crafting to fighting to investigating a murder and so on, all interspersed with excellent dialogues and a nice enough backstory: you could spend hours just exploring and talking to NPCs and you'll always want more.
It's a party based RPG, you'll make two characters - and can recruit two more or play coop with a friend - and they could have different personalities based on your liking, so they can end up bickering and bantering all throughout the game.
The combat is awesome, very tactic, hard but not frustrating with a clever use of magic combinations which can turn the tide of a difficult fight.
The classes are very customizable, you can decide to take every single skill or abilty with any character, leading to a very open game experience.
Technically, it's good but not something jaw-dropping. The engine is light and runs well even on old computers, the graphics are good, clean and easy readable and the magic effects are appropriate but not too uselessly flashy so you rarely get confused in the action. The music is also good and it never gets annoying.

    The flaws:
I really feel the need for a "undo" button, even if there's the problem that it could be abused (but you can also abuse save/load and the fleeing mechanic, so...). Too often I click on an enemy and get a misclick, moving my character where I don't want him to go. Also, finding the right spot for backstabbing is a tremendous pain.
Another useful thing would have been more keybinds... the classic shift+1,+2,+3 for the quickbars and one for trading with the npcs... I would have mapped many more things.
I don't really like the random loot. It's silly in a game with predefined encounters and no respawning enemies.
Sometimes it's very slow. The wait times on save/quicksave/load/transition van be insanely long.
Also I personally detest the rock/paper/scissor... it's a terrible way to handle the arguments and kills immersion (also it always looks like the PC is cheating which - true or false - it's annoying).
And, more than everything, a full world like in the Ultima games would have been fantastic, instead of a series of maps like it is.

But those are just minor flaws, and all in all, it's undoubtedly one of the best RPGs of the last years: it's an awesome game that is making hard to turn off my PC.

Every person that likes RPGs and thought-provoking games in general, should say a HUGE thank you to Larian studios for setting the bar so high! Kickstarter games of the genre must now compare to this masterpiece and not be content with "good for a kickstarter game" status.

I have not played an RPG this interesting . People say it is like Ultima VII. I wouldn't know, have never played any games in the Ultima series. It is the kind of game that gets me excited to explore, to see what is just around the corner. And, even in the starting zone, it manages to not disappoint. There is always something interesting to do, to see.

Oh, you can talk to animals. And like i always suspected cats are well spoken and dogs are lovable retards. 10/10. Have never played anything like it, and i can't get it out of my head. 10/10.

One of the best games I've played in a while, wonderful world-building, deep turn-based combat system and the game doesn't hold your hand at all after the tutorial dungeon. Co-op is also a lot of fun, though a little bit flawed when it comes to the way dialogue is handled.

Larian has managed to pull off an incredibly ambitious idea with a nearly perfect result. Original Sin a game that is engaging, challenging, fun, and lovingly crafted, with tons of detail and world reactivity.

The seamless co-op makes the experience even more fun, as your partner will be able to challenge many of your decisions through separate dialogues - or distract a shopkeeper with idle chat while you might rob the store behind his back. Toss in a really easy to use editor with a huge range of options and scripting capability and you might just end up with hundreds of additional user modules like those made for Neverwinter Nights.

The story is fun and interesting and serves as an excellent excuse to set the party loose upon the huge areas in search of treasure, secrets, side-quests, exploration and puzzle-solving. The writing is often light-hearted but certainly knows how to pull off dramatic moments - a pleasant change from loads of the recent "grimdark" stories.

The game's combat mechanics are just as great - it's possible to spill oil on the ground to make ground slippery, set it on fire, put the fire out with water, turn the water into an electrocuting deathtrap and then boil out the water with a fireball to turn it into a wall of fog - or freeze it to have everything entering it slip and fall. Melee and bow-based combat is also full of various options, and the classless system permits mixing up skills in any way you'll like. There's even a skill that lets you talk to animals. And a spell that lets you throw people off a cliff.

The game is also very pleasing graphically, everything is distinct, stylized and detailed - and the music is fantastic. Connecting for co-op is easy and quick enough, though the initial loading time may be a little lengthy.

Overall, having followed Original Sin's development closely, I can't say it's a "pleasant surprise" - it's the solid dream game that the developers have envisioned, worked on, collected feedback on, and finally delivered. Fantastic and inspirational work.

Let me make something clear: this is NOT "Baldur's Gate 3". It is nothing like Baldur's Gate. Pillars of Eternity is the game that is striving to be like the Infinity Engine classics.

Divinity: Original Sin is more like Diablo with turn-based combat.

It's not a terrible game but I'm left feeling unimpressed. Music is okay. A few songs are gorgeous (e.g. character creation music) but many are forgettable and dull. The opening cinematic was cheesy. Environmental graphics are nice but the level design is a bit repetitive and I don't feel the urge to explore the world because it's not a very exciting one. Character models are hideous and the character creation is very basic. You'd think that in a game where you create two characters at the start, it wouldn't be this way. I had a lot of trouble attempting to get my male wizard to not look like an identical twin of my male warrior.

I'm not impressed by the class system. It doesn't have anywhere near the depth of D&D games like NWN, where you have ability points, feats, skill points, spells/abilities, and various unique classes that can be combined in any way. Instead, you just have class 'names' which attempt to make the game look as if there are classes, which there aren't, really. You just pick a few skills and build your own character from scratch. The limited skills are VERY much like D3/WoW and NOTHING like the Forgotten Realms games.

I don't feel myself enjoying the dialogue as much as PS:T, NWN or BG. It's not as well-written and a lot of it is filler/boring. Still, it's not -that- bad.

I'll say that the game is somewhat charming and the turned-based combat can be fun/creative, but overall it doesn't deserve the high ratings that it's getting.

While it is not "perfect" in my eyes - it's more of the Baldur's Gate reincarnation than that of the Planescape, but it features tons of monsters, quests, dialogues, jokes and battles, with very few bugs and stunning music. So for me it's 10 out of 10, a big classic-feeling fantasy role-playing game where you can be witch, rogue, ranger, mage, warrior, you pursue one big main quest while fulfilling dozens of others.

Attention to details is a strong selling point here. Cats that give you quests. Manipulating the weather to actually make spells like Rain useful. Tactic options in battles. A bit of humor here and there. Exploration. Loot. Crafting, oh, need to try it more.

I've played it in beta, I will go and play it now, I am going to replay it after I finish and I totally recommend it to all RPG fans. I've been following Larian games since the very first Divinity and I am very happy to see their evolution and growth.

I wont **** and moan on the state of gaming right now, but I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like I am being used, patronized, and financially milked by the empty, shallow cookie-cutter games we are offered these days.
As far as my review of the game goes I really only have good things to say. Its an incredibly engrossing world, with interesting stories and interesting characters, that keeps you wanting to play; NOT through cheap tactics like we see in Diablo clones, MMO's, or other gear-treadmill/unlocks type shenanigans, but because of genuine desire.
I know, I know, how can I not find anything wrong? That's impossible right? Wrong. Honestly, Ive not experienced any bugs or crashes of any sort in the short 40 hours I have spent in-game so far. The game was ready to come out of Early Access. (FYI the devs have not stopped to rest and have been hot on the case post release, with updates and fixes).
Who knows, maybe I'm unable to be critical because I've been totally enchanted by it all. Jumping from a solo play-thru to a co-op play-thru (on 2 separate profiles, and I've nowhere near finished the game on either) I am pleased with both, and we only have more to look forward to in the form of developer content and player created mods.
I highly recommend Divinity: Original Sin to lovers of authentic cRPG's with intelligent design, or if you just fancy trying something new to you, this is a great place to start!
    Thanks for reading :)

No is not as good as Baldur's Gate/Planescape Torment, but as a single player game is better than NWN 1/2.
It doesn't give you the "complete freedom" that some Bethesda games give you (Elder scroll saga), but you have a party and turn-based combat (a great one), which have always been a love of mine.

Is it worth a 10? For me yes 'cause I was starting to wonder if I would have been able to feel the joy of playing a CRPG again.

    1. The sense of exploration. DOS is a rich world full of hidden treasures. For example you can get around 6000 gold worth of stuff from the Legion Warehouse that you encounter soon after beating the tutorial. It's near the burning ship. You will need to kill the legion guards (fight will be pretty hard) around the warehouse. You will also need Unlock Magic Door scroll (for some reason I had one, don't know how I got it but whatever!). Go in and you will find great equipment and plates that can be sold for a ton of money. Stuff like this just makes me so excited for a game.

    2. The combat is amazing. I just LOVE the combat. It's kind of like playing a game of Magic the Gathering, where you spend "mana" to cast spells, walk around, attack with your sword, etc. The magic system is well thought out, with elements interacting with one another. Fights are TOUGH and you will need to use tactics and your environment to your advantage.

    3. It's like reading a good novel. This game does a great job of immersing you into the world though dialogue.

    4. The game doesn't hold your hand. Quests are text only. You will have to listen to the dialogue and look at your journal to have a clue what the hell is going on.

    5. The music is really really good. All of my roommates have commented on how good the music is while I'm playing the game.

The cons of this game are only "inconveniences" that can be fixed in future patches like inventory management and some clunky controls. Seriously, the core game design itself is simply perfect. And I'm not trying to overhype this game, I think it deserves the hype and the glowing reviews.

In comparison to the greatest RPGs of all time, most notably Baldur's Gate 2, is doesn't offer quite the same amount of epicness in the story nor of character development and interaction. Which does not mean that there isn't plenty of it too, in fact the discussions between the main characters about their actions are one of the highlights in this game as well.

Any fan of those great RPG classics should like this one very much as well and given the almost complete lack of games like this in the last years, it should be very refreshing for anyone else as well.

Larian took a huge chance with Divinity: Original Sin. Not only is it very much "old school" in design, having challenging turn-based combat, complex character systems and multitude of solutions to problems, it is also the most ambitious co-op cRPG ever. Oh, and did I mention it comes with a complete development kit for making your own games?

Story-wise it is definitely a Larian game.

Story-wise it is definitely a Larian game. Quirky humor and general lightheartedness give a very different experience than the traditional RPG epics do. While some may be left longing for a more serious and thought-provoking writing, most will still find the story and it's intrigue immersive enough, especially with the world constantly reacting to your actions.

While Divinity: Original Sin is certainly not a game for everyone, I have high hopes that the gorgeous audiovisual trappings and accessible modern UI elements and helper systems will introduce a new generation of gamers to a more complex kind of games.

For the few of us who grew up with Ultimas, this game is that rare 10/10 "game of the decade". No doubt about it.

The world is big. And the surroundings are filled with color, life and activity. And when there isn't supposed to be that much life and activity around, there isn't! Enemies are varied throughout the game and battles are often tactical and pretty enjoyable most times. I absolutely love the fact that it's turn-based. I've always loved turn based games like the good old Heroes of Might and Magic games, the Might and Magic games (both from 3DO), Fallout 1 and 2, Wasteland 2, Civilization games, Lords of Magic, Wizardry 8 and even Etherlords games.

So understandably, I liked this game a lot. There's a lot you can do, side quests and main quests and general exploring. There are some secrets too and I really like the fact that your two characters can converse with each other.

It's also really fun to play with a friend, your friend controlling one character and you the other.

Overall, I really recommend this game for any RPG fanatic, and if you like turn-based games, even better.

If you perhaps missed the boat on the older games but enjoy RPG style games, you will probably love this. I hope the developers sell a million copies and make a ton of money on this so we can get more games like this in the future!

Bought it a week or so ago... took , me about 90 - 92 hours for one play through. I consider it the best RPG I've ever played. I will play it through again in the future as I didn't even use half the classes in the game. The only negative thing about this game is that there are some super troll puzzles with hidden switches that ruin my immersion.

This RPG belongs in the pantheon with NeverWinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Fallout, etc...

It's a lot of fun, it offers coop which is very rare in this genre, the tactical combats are really great (especially in coop), the game is challenging, etc etc...

It came with some flaws here and there but overall, it's a fantastic experience.

Probably the best RPG of 2014. Absolutely fantastic game, scenario, maps, theme, music etc. The only con is that since it was crowd funded, the cinematics were just animations of images. Definitely worth playing. Tons of content, twist of scenario, many paths to follow in the conversations. This game is a MUST PLAY.

The soundtrack in this game is freaking amazing. Whenever I boot up the game, I hesitate to load a save because of the menu-music. Absolutely brilliant RPG! No hand-holding (This is what most of the negative reviews complain about - modern day "gamers" expect the game to tell them exactly what to do - heaven forbid they actually have to use their brains :P ), fun combat, good story!

As for bugs and crashes, cant really say I've found any (after 11 hours of CONTINUOUS play.) - no crashes nothing. Very polished and fun game.

i think its great that you have to figure out your self what and how to do things, the game do not hold your hand much. and that is great. the world feels so alive. in real life, there is no tutorial there. you have to figure out where to go and what to do. when you completed a thing you never thought you would, that makes you feel great. dark souls is that way to. no more tutorial based games. hard, challenging, rewarding games is the best there is.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not often do I rate a game with 10 out of 10. Divinity Original Sin does not even deserve a 10/10 in a way as it has been released with some uncanny design choices (mostly in the UI), but still gets the highest score because every other game element is so powerful and the game mechanics offer unsurpassed replayability, depth and tactical choice.

Divinity:OS is best compared to classics like Baldur's Gate and older TES titles such as Morrowind. Going back to the old-school isometric perspective feels like a sensible, logical and nostalgic choice that shows its merit throughout the whole game. Not once would I consider playing this game in a 3rd or 1st person perspective. Every single piece of environment presents a potential piece of the puzzle to your quest solution which adds greatly to playtime and a sense of discovery and natural immersion.

Combat and character development rules are original, inventive and understandable, but unforgiving. Imagine destroying a boss made out of lava in one turn, only to walk past its corpse on the next and instantly killing yourself because that boss left a puddle of lava. A simple example of one of the many reasons you will be saving often, retrying encounters and redoing pieces of the game just to experience the myriad of possibilities every little sequence has to offer. Every minute of play is a learning experience, adding new knowledge and depth to the game.

In addition to the astounding brilliance in gameplay just from the original campaign, Divinity:OS also offers a complete construction kit and encourages a vibrant modding community. The first pieces of community-driven content are already underway and the patching and post-release support is fast, active and to-the-point. Larian keeps listening to the community and still strives to improve the game.

Indie gaming at its best. RPG has been re-invented and redesigned. Divinity:OS is the new template for the future of the isometric, true Role-Playing Game.

However, the truth is that most of those issues are not addressed at all, and the game just launch in such a buggy status.

So, what 's the result? A lot of users suffer from loading issues, game crash and save corruption.

Therefore, the game is now nearly updated at a daily basis, but unfortunately there are more and more bugs discovered by the community as the game is on sale now.

This is unacceptable for such a long development cycle, and the tons of new bugs identified just make me doubt about if the game is actually tested before launch.

At this rate, I wonder if the game will be at least free of game-breaking bugs one month after the launch.

If you are interested, just check the steam forum for the issues currently reported by the community.

See for yourself before you make a purchase decision. Don't just blindly buy a game if you have to wait for a long time before it is finally playable.

One common flaw in turn based tactical games is the combat is just not tactical enough. D:OS does an amazing job with their skill system combined with the environmental dangers on the battlefield. I found wasn't doing well until I was utilizing the environment in almost every battle, and it is awesome.

Co-op games are so easy to set up! I had 0 issues getting my friend in my game and its fast every game. If I had one issue with the game it comes in this category though. Conversations started by one person is difficult and sometimes not observable by the other player. I want to see that amazing story too!

Are there bugs? Yes, but nothing gamebreaking and not many considering it just released. The one bug I kept encountering they fixed in one of their 4 small patches in 4 days anyways. I love knowing the devs won't wait forever to patch this game.

The good news is that Larian have put most of their effort in to refining the engine and the underlying rule set. In the pipeline there will be a creation kit which will allow the player base to create adventures, the best thing to happen in RPG gaming since Neverwinter Nights.

Larian are putting RPG gaming back on track. Let's not forget that Oblivion is also hard at work on Pillars of Eternity, and Bioware is looking to redeem itself with a (finally) worthy Dragon Age Game. Looks like 2014 maybe the year of the great RPG restoration! praise the RPG gods!

Good old old school game, with amazing new physics and colours.
And, the most important: it's 1st ever huge RPG that really suited for co-op.
All in that game just seems to be right for such an oldfug, like me.

    So, just 3 advices:

    - Play with friend(that you are hated).
    - Hard difficulty.
    - Don't play melee.

It's a conscious decision on Larian's part to resurrect tried-and-true threads that run deep into the bones of the CRPG genre. It's a culmination of those efforts and an unapologetic celebration of battle-tested concepts backed by solid co-op. Most of all, it comes together as a grand adventure that hearkens back to sleepless nights buoyed by the roll of a die and a pad of grid paper shared between fellow dungeon crawlers.

As much as I loved the bulk of the game, by the end I was burning out, and burning out fast. Despite that, I'm glad that some studios are still willing to show an almost insane level of ambition in realizing the games they want to make without compromise, even if it does lead to a few dire moments here and there.
