Divinity: Original Sin is easily the best RPG I've played in a long time! The turn-based combat is challenging and fun, nearly perfect. The freedom of choice and the deep characterization of the world is astonishing. The story is good too. This game reminds me of the RPG's golden era, back in the nineties. Congrats from Italy, Larian!

Awesome game, so great to see the Baldurs Gate/Ultima type RPG is still popular. This is a 'proper' roleplaying game, not just a combat-heavy, monster-grinding money-spinner!
Believable characters, wonderful sound and graphics and a great interface.
Hoping this means the start of many similar game in the near future :)

This game is on the top 10 list of my 30+ years of gaming. The intense care and attention to every detail, the level of freedom, the sheer amount of options you have to solve quests is mesmerizing. My only hope is that it will not finish quickly and there will be a lot of DLCs and mods. My hat is off to Larian Studios

That is how the RPG should look like. Great game, challenging and beautiful. For three days now, I have been wondering just in one city, but there are so much to thinks to do that sometimes you feel you are reading a very interesting adventure book.

I was not expecting Divinity: Original Sin to be this objectively great.

My favorite CRPG from back in the day is Arcanum, and also I love the other top-rated RPGs (Baldur's Gate series, Fallout series, etc), but Original Sin has quickly become not only my GOTY, but one of my top 3 favorite RPGs of all time.

Everything from the turn-based combat with reactive environments; to the characters and humor and lore; to the exploration and immense satisfaction of completing areas . . . Original Sin is almost perfect.

The only real issue I have found is NPC chatter is somewhat repetitive and happens during conversations. That's it. I know Larian will fix that in a patch at some point though, so that's why Divinity gets a 10 from me.

Phenomenal game. I am enjoying it as much as or more than I enjoyed Baldur's Gate 1&2 and Planescape many years ago. I have waited a long time for a high quality turn-based combat RPG like this. The depth is impressive, the storyline is good, and the combat is perfect. I haven't experienced any bugs yet, and have many hours in game now. If you like the genre, definitely give this game a try.

Many of the things associated with oldskool are recreated, improved, even evolved. The attention to detail and the variety offered to the player more than make up for the few flaws, which are primarily interface frustrations, and could be patched. The tactical combat is the best of its type, the constant possibly of failure is back as the AI will use the landscape too and has access to a similar skillset as yours, which is itself more than satisfying to experiment with and learn, which you'll be encouraged to do, plus character customization actually encourages some roleplay choices both solo & coop.

This feels like the game we should've had 10 years ago, and should make Larian proud, and others drop to their knees and beg .... "how?".

Get it . Play it. If its not a future fondly remembered classic already, people will still be talking about it for sure.

I'm addicted. I felt hesitant buying the game because I have a hard time getting into single player games, but I'm actually getting into this game big time. This is coming from a multiplayer-only gamer. There are so many good things about this game. I'll just list them here.

    1. The sense of exploration. DOS is a rich world full of hidden treasures. For example you can get around 6000 gold worth of stuff from the Legion Warehouse that you encounter soon after beating the tutorial. It's near the burning ship. You will need to kill the legion guards (fight will be pretty hard) around the warehouse. You will also need Unlock Magic Door scroll (for some reason I had one, don't know how I got it but whatever!). Go in and you will find great equipment and plates that can be sold for a ton of money. Stuff like this just makes me so excited for a game.

    2. The combat is amazing. I just LOVE the combat. It's kind of like playing a game of Magic the Gathering, where you spend "mana" to cast spells, walk around, attack with your sword, etc. The magic system is well thought out, with elements interacting with one another. Fights are TOUGH and you will need to use tactics and your environment to your advantage.

    3. It's like reading a good novel. This game does a great job of immersing you into the world though dialogue.

    4. The game doesn't hold your hand. Quests are text only. You will have to listen to the dialogue and look at your journal to have a clue what the hell is going on.

    5. The music is really really good. All of my roommates have commented on how good the music is while I'm playing the game.

The cons of this game are only "inconveniences" that can be fixed in future patches like inventory management and some clunky controls. Seriously, the core game design itself is simply perfect. And I'm not trying to overhype this game, I think it deserves the hype and the glowing reviews.

Currently standing at 9.0 for the user score, I have to tell you that isn't fair. They deserve a 10 for this.

Of all the previous greats - Planescape, Planetside, Baldur's Gate, Oblivion, SkyRim - this is the best. It should become the new yardstick for RPG's, eg: "This game is good, but it's no Original Sin.."

To repeat: This game currently stands rated at 9.0 and it's underrated. It's a 10.

You must try it, if you like RPG's and like deep games you will love it.

Divinity: Original Sin was the RPG I've been waiting for...for a LONG time. I just want to put this out there really quickly, that I am an RPG veteran, dating back to the mid to late 80s, so I've had my fair share of CRPGs. Anyhoo...

Divinity: Original Sin is the prequel to the first Divine Divinity. Like the first game, I had no idea this one even existed. I had never heard of Larian Studios at the time of release for Divine Divinity, and happened to pick it up at Best Buy one day, and fell in love right away. The same happened with this game. Somehow, I never knew it was coming and just saw a Web ad one day and immediately downloaded it.

Character creation is very solid, and can be daunting for those who don't really like to get into too much detail (though not nearly as hardcore as a D&D game). You create two main characters, picking sex, face, portrait, hair, voice, starting skills, attributes, and 2 talents. Depending on what class you pick, these will all be pre-assigned, but you are free to modify and rearrange them if you wish. As the game progresses, you can build your character in anyway you choose, and either stay on the path you chose, or create a hybrid class. Hybrids will not be overpowered machines, but they can easily be viable and fun.

The story isn't anything extremely original, but it is engaging, especially if you've played the other games. Fans of Divine Divinity will get some chuckles out of Larian's usual humor or some old references, but you don't need to have played the other games to understand this one or enjoy what's going on. The NPC's do feel a bit one dimensional, and there isn't a lot of voice acting, but it's still engaging and there's some lore in books that you find. You can also make your characters argue with each other, and the dialogue options that you pick will alter personality traits, which in turn alter certain skills. This is quite useful to help beef up some skills without wasting valuable skill points.

Combat is turn based (which I love in an RPG), and does require some thought. Early on, you can't just go off and think you're going to steamroll everything (though towards the end you might be able to do so. I always found battles much easier as the game went on, save for boss battles). You can use objects and the elements to your advantage. Spill water on the ground, toss a lightning spell and electrocute/stun your foes! Great times! If you've played Fallout or Fallout 2, you'll kind of feel the combat system in there a bit, as everything is done with action points. The good news though is you can adjust combat difficulty at anytime, even during combat, if something is too hard and you don't want to wait to try it later when you're better prepared. Spells are quite fun, and there's a lot of useful ones. The only downside to this is that sometimes there are too many spells to deal with, and a lot of them become useless later on as you gain more powerful spells, but that's usually the case with most games.

For most modern day gamers, questing might be one thing to upset you. Be forewarned that this game isn't a hand holder like today; You will not get direction as to where to go or what to do. You will be given a few hints here and there, then the rest is up to you. There is a journal though that records quests and conversations so you can refer back if you forget what to do.

My only real gripe with the game is the rock-paper-scissors mini-game. It's fun at first, but it's completely random. Even if you seem to have more points per victory than the NPC you go up against, the computer always seems to win no matter what (maybe I just have bad luck). I rarely ever get a victory.

While most people seem to hate the camera angles, it doesn't bother me. I get enough of a zoom in or out, and am able to rotate the camera just fine. If you need a full top down view during combat, just press the "B" key (I believe that's the default)

The graphics are pretty and the world is large and lush. There are several large maps you will travel throughout the game. Those who played Divinity or Beyond Divinity will understand this, and probably relish in it. Just like Divine Divinity, monsters do not respawn during the game, and it isn't like Diablo where a whole new game starts every time you log in. The single player mode saves and stays in the same state. The level cap is somewhere in the 20's, so it's pretty short in terms of leveling, but there's enough content to keep you going for hours.

To sum it up, Divinity: Original Sin might not be for the faint of heart, or those with short attention spans. It does require quite a bit of thought and strategy, but the game has so much to offer. I'm hoping Larian takes it even further with mods, because there's so much more that can be done with this game. The story is good, the combat is good, and the puzzles are fun and challenging. I highly recommend this underrated gem.

The combat system is the absolute best part of this game. The story is engaging and the art style is beautify, but it is the diversity of combat scenarios and solutions that really sold it for me. The only negatives for me were the only average questing system and a few frustrating camera controls.

Without doubt one of the best RPGs i'v played in a long time. Reminds me a lot of old gems like Baldur's gate, though it does not use the same (AD&D) rules but went in a different way. And that is a good thing, the combat is very intense even though it is turn based. Every choice matters and you will likely spend some time pondering which spell to use next or what target to attack. With the right strategy, previously impossible fights turn out to be easy and you will soon feel powerful enough to venture further. But don't worry, this is not just about combat. The world feels alive and exploring it brings you rewards in terms of loot, quests and even some easter eggs here and there. I spent perhaps 30 hours in game so far and I look forward to playing much more in the coming weeks. Quests are fun and clever, mostly there are more ways how to complete them and your actions have consequences that can be seen and felt.

There are however also still some bugs and a few areas might require some polish. I did not encounter any game breaking bugs at all though i saw some annoying glitches - being unable to pickup some loot I had to reload once. Good thing the game keeps several quicksave and autosave slots so i would not worry about savegame corruption. Personally i didn't encounter such issues. Also the "journal" which keeps track of your progress in quests tends to be a bit confusing which is also true for the list of possible teleportation locations. These are however just minor annoyances that can be hopefully fixed in future updates.

All that said, it would be a huge mistake to miss this game. It offers a lot of content and fun things to do (did i mention crafting your own gear? ), it has nice graphics and awesome music. Larian did an outstanding job and i hope they deliver us more games in the future.

Great interactive world with an internal logic that lets you try all sorts of approaches to problems. Really really steep learning curve. Seriously you will likely scrap your initial party and restart after playing a couple hours. Read some online hints to avoid it. If you're a hardcore player you'll probably love it. If you're used to more forgiving modern RPGs you're in for some frustration.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Divinity: Original Sin reminds me of why I love games. For over twenty years I have been a passionate gamer, and Like many adult gamers, I often fondly look back at games and the experiences that will stick with me for life. The games I look back with on with nostalgia aren't perfect, and neither is Divinity: Original Sin, but that's not what makes gaming great. If you are a gamer you will understand that unexplainable feeling of excitement and charm that truly makes the game perfect in your eyes. This is what Divinity: Original Sin is to me.

    The Good:
    - Beautiful World
    - Tons of exploration
    - Great story (often comical)
    - Amazing combat (I hated turn based combat before this game, so don't let that stop you)
    - Large amount of content (I spent 30 hours on the first section of the game)
    - Obviously a labor of love for Larian (A game for gamers by gamers)

    The Bad
    - Very rare stability issues
    - muddy textures up close
    - minor bugs
    - Strange difficulty spikes

It should be said that this is not the casual gamers RPG. Divinity: Original Sin can be very challenging at times, especially on harder difficulties. Encounters may require multiple attempts and careful planning to overcome. The same can be said with the many environmental puzzles/secrets in the world. Finally, there is no quest guidance, you explore, discover, and complete without any "go here to complete quest" arrows. the difficulty and lack of hand holding is refreshing, and adds to the games value. Like I said before, Divinity: Original sin is not a perfect game, but it is truly rare gaming experience that should be experienced by every RPG fan out there.

And Larian even with limited budget can do a better game than Bioware nowadays. I always loved Larian's games, but this time they outdone themselves. Now go, BUY IT! Expand

One common flaw in turn based tactical games is the combat is just not tactical enough. D:OS does an amazing job with their skill system combined with the environmental dangers on the battlefield. I found wasn't doing well until I was utilizing the environment in almost every battle, and it is awesome.

Co-op games are so easy to set up! I had 0 issues getting my friend in my game and its fast every game. If I had one issue with the game it comes in this category though. Conversations started by one person is difficult and sometimes not observable by the other player. I want to see that amazing story too!

Are there bugs? Yes, but nothing gamebreaking and not many considering it just released. The one bug I kept encountering they fixed in one of their 4 small patches in 4 days anyways. I love knowing the devs won't wait forever to patch this game.

Just a handful of points mar a perfect score. There are still some bugs and unfinished bits here and there, which are disappointing. NPC banter is loud, repetitive and annoying. Some balancing issues exist, making a few character aspects or abilities too good. Nothing worth avoiding this gem of a game over, however!

Lovely game. Very deep, conversations are interesting to read and the game does not hold your hand - it allows you to explore and discover. Combat is a lot more fun than I thought it would be, you need to keep your head at it. I imagine reviews will be late to this game as it's simply that big.

Basically what the other ten reviewers said. Nice to have a game that makes you READ the quests to give clues where to go next. I've started to dislike having markers everywhere. Proper hardcore PC RPG unlike recent releases that were obviously made easier for the general console crowd. I have however knocked a point off for the poor inventory and slightly clumsy crafting.

Turn-based combat = great - I've missed this in RPGs, everyone wants real-time 3D, but this trumps a lot of game mechanics if you ask me
Graphics = good - running things on the highest settings possible without any hitches and it looks good for this type of game

Story = good- 3 days in and I'm still not sure what direction the story will take, which is a good thing for me

Voiced dialogue = overall quality is good, but the repetitive nature of some of the NPCs' scripts is torture

Written dialogue = good - think I've only seen one spelling error so far

Interactive environment = good - not quite to the degree I was expecting, but not bad

Stability = good - as noted, no game breaking bugs - way more stable than beta

Leveling = okay - I honestly don't know about this one yet, it seems a bit slow at the start, but now that I'm a few levels in it seems to be speeding up, which seems backwards to me

Game world = Considering how much content is crammed into the starting area, I have no idea since I haven't left there yet... I'm considering this a good thing though, as I can see you'll be able to jump around later on, which means you won't be limited to questing in a single area at a time

Crafting = Probably the one thing that bugs me the most, you need to invest in the ability to craft and early on you'll accumulate a lot of things you won't be able to do anything with; however, this means that you will really weigh the value of that next combat skill upgrade versus a crafting/blacksmithing upgrade - tons of replay value right there alone.

Overall this beats my expectations of an Kickstarter/Early Access game by quite a bit and since they're still working to improve it, I can't see a downside to owning it. The old school feel in a new skin is perfect, but just remember to save often, very often, and things should be okay.

Combat tends to be very messy if you don't have a strategy and is also pretty difficult, excepting the tutorial areas ofcourse. Also if the enemies are even 1 level higher than your party, you're likely to get your ass whooped, especially if you're fighting a group of such enemies.

Money is very easy to make in the game, as you can basically go into the rich people's mansions and robe them blind while you distract them with a party member and then switch to another and sneak around picking paintings off the walls and gold/silver stuff from around the house. It's easy to not get caught. Not to mention you will find some very good weapons and armor in some chests. I left the first town after I bought the best equipment that vendors had.

Melee characters seem to have the role of meatshields while the real damage and utility is possessed by wizards. It's probably very much possible to play an all wizard party with some summons to act as meatshields. Not sure I like that.

One thing I noticed is that the music is rehashed from other Larian games. Noticed music parts from Divine Divinity and Divinity 2.

If you play solo make sure to assign an AI personality to one of the two characters, usually the one you don't consider as playing your part, otherwise you're gonna have to manually select dialogue options for both characters and talking to yourself during dialogues is kinda weird. :D

The only thing which does upset me is the lack of an informative journal. Which is what made the older RPGs so great, studying your journal to find out what to do next was often one of the best experiences of the older RPGs, sadly this isn't present in D:OS. The vague journal can often leave you very puzzled and stuck, but still it doesn't detract from the overall experience of the game. The best thing is by far the combat. It's well done for turnbased, the elements and all their weaknesses and strengths definitely always leave you on the balls of your feet and make each fight unique and interesting. Using water spells to wet your enemies, followed by an electric spell to stun them is one of the few combinations you can use in combat to your advantage.

The graphics are amazing as well, especially for a kickstarter game, like holy **** It looks better than almost anything on Xbox One and PS4 at the moment and it's not even that technically impressive, it just looks really really good.

This does not at all; it's combat is brutally hard without the use of tactics and it gives you no indicator whatsoever where to go for your quests. Questing in it is far more akin to Baldur's Gate or Morrowind, and that's incredibly refreshing.

The dialog is funny and plentiful; it is not limited by having every single line voice acted. The systems it uses for combat are fairly intuitive if you have any experience with tabletop gaming. The quests are interesting. The world is interesting, and you can do more to manipulate it in the starting town then you can do for the entirety of the last 5 Bioware games you care to name.

Buy it if you love RPG's, get ready for a headache and being forced to re-examine how to play them if you love RPG's and are under 20 years old.

I gotta say, I am so glad I was a backer of this game. But considering how much I enjoyed the original, and a few of their subsequent games. I was willing to take a chance. And I'm glad I did.

For anyone who longs for the days of the Ultima series, or the Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale (Planescape too) series of Isometric PC games, this is it. Larian has crafted a true successor to those games. Since it's release, I have been playing it almost constantly (all through 4th of July weekend). It has depth and character and is a joy to play. It's challenging too. Even on the normal level, you'll be challenged by the enemies and bosses. Learning which Player Character types do what and using their skills to the fullest is a must. Likewise, learning which enemies do what and what their skills are are also a must.

The graphics are beautiful (running this on highest settings) and detailed. The game (so far) runs smooth and I have had no crashes. Though I have had the occasional (not game breaking) bug (one bug was sometimes not costing anything to repair gear at a vendor), so far and overall, the game is pretty polished. I will say the limited camera rotation frustrated me to no end. There is an option for full 360 degree rotation, but enabling it comes with a warning that the single player campaign was not designed for it and could cause graphical glitches (or something to that affect). I took a chance and enabled it and I'm glad I did. I have yet to run into any noticeable graphical issues. Having the full camera rotation is so much nicer. Include the Co-op and toolkit and you have a game well worth the Steam price. For those of us who backed it at the lower tiers, we made out like bandits. :D

I really can't recommend this game enough. It brought back fond memories of those early RPGs and I found myself lost in the game and losing track of time once again, something I have't done playing a game in a long time.

The story... if you enjoy reading you will spend HOURS with chit-chat in towns, and if you not, you have no need to talk with anything but quest givers, you can do a LOT of meta-gaming, you can steal every fork of the town, or not, the game greatly rewards the exploration, you get XP only for discover new rooms and moving objects often reveals more things behind them and secret doors, I can speak kilometers of words about how can I enjoy this game but I will resume all of this saying: It is Baldur's Gate, with MORE stuff, modernized and with the toolset to do our own mods. I played this game beginning to end and finished much (70-80%) of the side quests. I played through the game with dual Lone-Wolf on the hardest difficulty to get the best possible experience. I have about 100 hours invested in the game as of the writing of this review. Here is a quick rundown of the pro's and cons from my play through.

*RPG Element - The RPG element of the game is deep and well fleshed out. This is a break of fresh air considering how shallow and watered down RPG games have been over the past 10 years.
*Strategy Element - This isn't a run in and destroy everything type of game. Strategy is very much required and with the interaction with environment and very large skill trees it makes for dynamic and rich strategic combat. Even with a perfectly built out team, best gear, best skills/spells, without implementing good strategy you will get destroyed
*No Grind - One of the first RPGs I have ever played where you don't grind and yet you make it through the game trying to stay ahead of the difficulty curve. Monsters don't re-spawn which means you can level beyond the monster which keeps the game tough, but it also eliminates the type of grinding required in 99% of all RPGs.
Rewarding Battles - This is a combination of all of the above, most battles, even small trash mob type battles took me anywhere from 15-60 minutes to complete. Again the game puts an emphasis on strategy and instead of grinding the same mob hundreds of times for hours, you fight 1 mob 1 time but they make sure you work for it and you get rewarded as if you had been grinding it for hours.
Rich World - The world is rich and vibrant. Some of the world feels bright and happy while other parts are dark and foreboding. The developers did a great job at drawing you deep into the game both through story telling and developing a world so real you forget you are playing a game.
*Good Skill Tree/Loot - The game doesn't shower you in uber gear but it also doesn't keep it out of reach. You feel like you find good gear just often enough to make it rewarding but not so often that it becomes meaningless. My only complain here is that is errs a little to much to the side of being too stingy with gear. There were times where I would go 20-30 hours of gameplay before I found that better pair of gloves. Also there are plenty of well flesh out skill trees. You learn different skill trees, mix and match and try and find the best synergies between different trees. Because of that there is an almost unlimited number of unique character builds.

I could probably list another half dozen minor things but those are the major pro's that stand out. My only complaint of this game is that the story line starts strong in the beginning but because a bit shallow and far fetched towards the end. Also the graphics are merely "ok". Although the game does have very nice looking spell animation. Overall any minor cons of this game are all but forgotten with all of the good it has going for it.

It's a breath of fresh air to once again play a real RPG in the 21st century

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not often do I rate a game with 10 out of 10. Divinity Original Sin does not even deserve a 10/10 in a way as it has been released with some uncanny design choices (mostly in the UI), but still gets the highest score because every other game element is so powerful and the game mechanics offer unsurpassed replayability, depth and tactical choice.

Divinity:OS is best compared to classics like Baldur's Gate and older TES titles such as Morrowind. Going back to the old-school isometric perspective feels like a sensible, logical and nostalgic choice that shows its merit throughout the whole game. Not once would I consider playing this game in a 3rd or 1st person perspective. Every single piece of environment presents a potential piece of the puzzle to your quest solution which adds greatly to playtime and a sense of discovery and natural immersion.

Combat and character development rules are original, inventive and understandable, but unforgiving. Imagine destroying a boss made out of lava in one turn, only to walk past its corpse on the next and instantly killing yourself because that boss left a puddle of lava. A simple example of one of the many reasons you will be saving often, retrying encounters and redoing pieces of the game just to experience the myriad of possibilities every little sequence has to offer. Every minute of play is a learning experience, adding new knowledge and depth to the game.

In addition to the astounding brilliance in gameplay just from the original campaign, Divinity:OS also offers a complete construction kit and encourages a vibrant modding community. The first pieces of community-driven content are already underway and the patching and post-release support is fast, active and to-the-point. Larian keeps listening to the community and still strives to improve the game.

Indie gaming at its best. RPG has been re-invented and redesigned. Divinity:OS is the new template for the future of the isometric, true Role-Playing Game.

The combat is quite difficult, requiring some saving and loading, which is a staple of older games like this, but perhaps not so welcome now. However, a properly balanced party could probably reason things through and work out that, for example, rain would hamper the efforts of a fire demon.

The duration of the single player campaign is excellent, with lots of different things to do and see. Overall a worthy game, which promises to soak up lots of time without any grinding or RNG abuse.

Divinity: Original Sin is more like Diablo with turn-based combat.

It's not a terrible game but I'm left feeling unimpressed. Music is okay. A few songs are gorgeous (e.g. character creation music) but many are forgettable and dull. The opening cinematic was cheesy. Environmental graphics are nice but the level design is a bit repetitive and I don't feel the urge to explore the world because it's not a very exciting one. Character models are hideous and the character creation is very basic. You'd think that in a game where you create two characters at the start, it wouldn't be this way. I had a lot of trouble attempting to get my male wizard to not look like an identical twin of my male warrior.

I'm not impressed by the class system. It doesn't have anywhere near the depth of D&D games like NWN, where you have ability points, feats, skill points, spells/abilities, and various unique classes that can be combined in any way. Instead, you just have class 'names' which attempt to make the game look as if there are classes, which there aren't, really. You just pick a few skills and build your own character from scratch. The limited skills are VERY much like D3/WoW and NOTHING like the Forgotten Realms games.

I don't feel myself enjoying the dialogue as much as PS:T, NWN or BG. It's not as well-written and a lot of it is filler/boring. Still, it's not -that- bad.

I'll say that the game is somewhat charming and the turned-based combat can be fun/creative, but overall it doesn't deserve the high ratings that it's getting.

Hard difficulty could have been a bit more difficult in my opinion, other than that i don't have any major flaw to point out out of this epic game. the quests are plentyful but not always too well done. It is just so easy to overlook some key item ( sometimes literally key ) to proceed and get stuck - there are also situations when the game progression gets bugged ( like attacking an enemy before they had their say can lead to a cull-de-sac eventually )

the dual character system is a nice novelty that does not so quickly gets old - however the character "arguing system (rock-paper-scissors)" .. well, i do not like it - like at all.

the game does come with an editor for plenty of new content, truly EXCELLENT combat synergy systems and a huge amount of items to hoard.

what i did find a bit odd was that the world, despite being full of "stuff" sometimes felt a bit sterile - but i cannot pin down why i had that feeling - the NPCs while not too mobile, are not lazier than NPCs in skyrim or similar - so maybe it is just the top-down-perspective.

at its core the game does so many things right that all the nitpicks are but meaningless. - a clear 9/10 from me - a game and game concept to build on for sure - and i just love to see such a great example of a top down RPG again.

oh - and i found the game really hard - and shamefully had to pick "easy" to get my chars rolling for the first hour or so... - so i think it is a tough nut, even for pros.

Especially since Larian is very busy resolving issues through regular patching. This is why I ranked the game with a 10 in stead of a 9.

This is the best cRPG in the last years. This game is awesome.
+ Good Story, not the BioWare Neverending Story "Rescue the World"
    + Good Combat
    + Dialogue
+ Coop Mode with best friend
    + Upcoming Mods

Where to start with this deep and unbelievably satisfying cRPG?

The graphics are gorgeous, the sound is great, the music is awesome but who give a f**k about that? The game-play is beyond Godlike. This is the RPG where you can actually role play. If something looks possible, try it, chances are it will work. you can do so many things just in the first few hours of the game that you

I have not played an RPG this interesting . People say it is like Ultima VII. I wouldn't know, have never played any games in the Ultima series. It is the kind of game that gets me excited to explore, to see what is just around the corner. And, even in the starting zone, it manages to not disappoint. There is always something interesting to do, to see.

Oh, you can talk to animals. And like i always suspected cats are well spoken and dogs are lovable retards. 10/10. Have never played anything like it, and i can't get it out of my head. 10/10.

This is all I wanted in a modern RPG. It's a revival of the great times, with all the good parts of games like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, without the bad parts.

It is so, so deep. Ive been loving every second of it. Spent 4 (four) hours in the game doing nothing but reading and creating characters.... then another 4 (four) walking through the FIRST town. Not even been fighting anyone. Dont expect to have your hand held over game objectives and I hope you like reading text as that is what you will be spending most of your time doing.

While definitely not up to equaling games like Planescape: Torment, Vampires: Bloodlines or Fallout2, this is nevertheless the best RPG of the decade.
If only the tone was a bit more serious and the story a bit tighter and less campy and mcguffiny, it could have been added as the fourth to those great three.

This is what RPGs should be like. Tactical, immersive, open, not pull-you-by-the-nose affairs or cinematic extravaganzas. BioWare used to know this better than anyone, but they lost their way. It keeps you hooked not because you want to see what happens next, but because you want to brave the next challenge, explore the world and improve your character. In order to progress you will not just use your best skills in cooldown order and repeat, but you have to think about your tactics and adjust them to the situation. It is not perfect, but it is refreshing and interesting to the extreme. Expand

A very well made RPG, very much comparable to some of the classics of the genre. Unlike most current mainstream games, it requires patience and thinking in combat as well as the quests. As is the voice acting as far as it exists, because most of the texts are read-only, which of course is not surprising given the amount of it and the development budget. In comparison to the greatest RPGs of all time, most notably Baldur's Gate 2, is doesn't offer quite the same amount of epicness in the story nor of character development and interaction. Which does not mean that there isn't plenty of it too, in fact the discussions between the main characters about their actions are one of the highlights in this game as well.

Any fan of those great RPG classics should like this one very much as well and given the almost complete lack of games like this in the last years, it should be very refreshing for anyone else as well.

It's a conscious decision on Larian's part to resurrect tried-and-true threads that run deep into the bones of the CRPG genre. It's a culmination of those efforts and an unapologetic celebration of battle-tested concepts backed by solid co-op. Most of all, it comes together as a grand adventure that hearkens back to sleepless nights buoyed by the roll of a die and a pad of grid paper shared between fellow dungeon crawlers.

Relatively small Larian Studios finally managed to deliver a really significant game. Original Sin is brimming with ideas on how to bring back old school RPG vibe and make it fit modern times. [Sept 2014, p.50]

As much as I loved the bulk of the game, by the end I was burning out, and burning out fast. Despite that, I'm glad that some studios are still willing to show an almost insane level of ambition in realizing the games they want to make without compromise, even if it does lead to a few dire moments here and there.
