This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I decided to play this and not Disgaea 1 as my first game in the franchise because from what I had researched, the characters and the story appealed much more to me. Less comedy and more plot (that's what I was sold). I haven't played the others yet, but I loved this one, it's a highly solid game.

The chapter is very slow, as it should be, it has several very light moments and near the end we see a little of the protagonist's determination and how he wants to go as soon as possible to kill Maou. In chapter 3 it starts to change. It is amazing how story driven is the beginning of the story, the 2 protagonists mainly, you want to know more about their story and how it affected them (in chapters 3 and 4 there is a lot of it). Even Axel's story is slightly interesting. The arena and her escape are two very good chapters in general. But a little later there are 2 chapters that basically serve only as a build-up and I felt that they were kind of futile, it was 9 (to invoke Maou I needed to go to Etna) and 11 (to get medicine for Yukimaru's brother). At least the end of chapter 11 is very good. The character insights between levels are very good. The death of Adell's parents without him even knowing who they were is very sad. And in chapter 13 the game is over, my god, that ending blew up all my expectations, it’s anticyclical, emotional, tense, it shows character development, with a GREAT twist, ending it all with a rare ending and **** that generated immense respect for Adell .

The script is quite unpredictable, so I didn't expect it.

Until chapter 7 more or less the amount of interactions between the characters was very good, but from then on it decreased a lot and it became practically just excessive dialogue of the plot; in the end it was missing, even between Adell and Rozalin (although obviously still having some great interactions).

In addition some parts of the story seemed a little broken, in chapter 8 for example, we found out who was responsible for the disgust of women that Adell owns, but nothing is specified and lost the opportunity to put a flashback **** for example.

The secondary characters are almost all sympathetic and charismatic. But the stars are definitely Adell and Rozalin, both realistic and very cool at the same time. Adell mainly, is an extremely well-written character (hesitates, has doubts and is multidimensional) and very charismatic. Although I like Rozalin a lot, she is a tsundere too much, in my opinion the dose has gone a bit.
I thought it was interesting to have those 'generic characters', I think it is better than writing several characters badly in each game of the franchise (looking at you Fire Emblem).

The gameplay is very good, tactical JRPG of very good quality the only defect I found was that the navigation in the menus was a little too raw. Despite being in its excess, much like Fire Emblem, it carries several unique and different things (both inside and outside the battlefield), generating its own identity. But in the end, I prefer FE.
The whole audition system is very original and very cool.

Although the quality of the portraits is great, there are very few of them, which hinders the overall immersion of the game; but incredibly, they made up for practically all the lack of hardware, the direction of the scenes (very weak) and the portraits with the AMAZING cast of VA. Seriously, all voices are TOO good.

The game has some very good OSTs, but in general it's just okays. Little amount is worth noting.

    The opening is really good.

After playing the first Disgaea I have to say, pretty much everything has improved a lot, menu navigation has improved (mainly outside of battles), there are more cutscenes (at least 1 per battle, giving meaning to each step of the adventure) and the animations are very better and more epic in general. Aside from the improvement in the story and writing of the protagonists, you may even like the old ones (I'm not sure how, maybe you enjoyed the comedy generated by the chemistry between them) but these are better written.

Taro is too many cattle ... and not just literally ...

What a mess the game crashes each time the controller is disconnected.

It is a great game. The story is good and the characters are really great. The humor in this game is great too. The most interesting of all, even after finishing the main story, there is still a lot to do in the post-game, so it can take hundreds of hours of playing this game.

After all these years, Disgaea 2 is still an excellent strategy RPG. The mechanics are very tight despite advances having been made in subsequent sequels and spin-offs, and it doesn't get old over the long period of time you'll want to spend with the game. The story remains engaging, and the characters and humor have withstood the test of time. Best of all, the PC version doesn't have a majority of the issues that plagued the console original. If you've never had the pleasure of playing this before and you don't own any PlayStation systems, Disgaea 2 is certainly worth checking out on the PC.

The voice acting may be terrible, but Disgaea 2 makes up for that with incredibly solid game mechanics. Some of the mechanic interactions may be a bit obtuse, but there is something to be said for the amount of depth present here.

Disagea 2 is a fantastic release that plays quite smoothly and has a tremendous amount of depth and playability to offer. Granted, the combat mechanic can seem repetitive, but there is a staggering number of classes to recruit, along with new abilities to unlock and level up, and new maps and aspects to explore.
