Great game. Better than Dirt Rally in every way. There are some issues with Racenet and the ffb is a little light but I have confidence that Codies will sort it all out.

If you like racing, own a force feedback steering wheel? This is a great game. Be aware that this is just about the rally racing itself. No stories or unlocks/skill trees etc.. Only should have had 2 more maps in base game. For FFB steering wheel owners: download latest driver (otherwise ffb probably doesn't work).

I would even say I definitely enjoy the FFB in many aspects now. It has elevated the driving experince from uninspiring to exciting.

The rest of the game is rock solid, greatly crafted (but too few) tracks and very nice selection of cars. The graphics are stellar with good performance and the audio is great. The pace notes co-driver voice is not to my liking, but I guess that is a very personal preference.

Based on the improved FFB I would now recommend the game and I have raised my score given from 5 to 8. The game will probably never be as iconic as the original DIRT Rally, but it is at this very moment the best new rally game out there.

Other details are surface changes, improved manual gearbox compared to DR1, fantastic FFB, tyre wear.

Some "game-ish" features spoil the true rally experience. The damage model is on the forgiving side, and once you develop your team's repairing skills it's impossible to run out of time for repairs between stages.
Locations are beautifully crafted and rich in details, but stages are too short. I think the longest stages are in the 16-18 km range, whereas the average is less than 10km.
Although tyre wear is there, you always have enough tyre changes to get a fresh set at every service area.

About the pricing policies, the only way to get a reasonable price is to put the full game including all DLCs in your steam wishlist and wait for at least a 50% discount.

    PROs:
    - convincing physics
    - visuals, audio and FFB give a great immersion
    - excellent VR performance
    - the full game has a good variety of locations and cars

    CONs:
    - gameish features prevent a true rally experience: forgiving damage model, easy repairs
    - short stages
    - combined price of base game + all DLCs is unjustifiable

This is one of those games that induces mixed feelings. The way it was delivered to its core audience, however, is regrettable to say the least. I never thought Codemasters, the one company I would trust with this sort of stuff, would implement such extensive microtransactions as they have. 20 dollars for a one year pass? 2 dollars or so for a single car? Even though the GOTY edition is selling for 55 USD as of now, these were (and still are) egregious prices. I understand why they did it - Dirt 4 underperformed massively in terms of sales, so the team probably needed some quick cash to be able to keep the series going - but the way it was done, coupled with the always-online career mode, leaves a sour taste on what is otherwise a terrific game. Were it not for my love of Codies, I'd struggle to rate this higher than a 7. Expand

For £45 you are being served reheated leftovers from a couple of years ago - and not even all of them. You have to pay extra for the remaining ones. At least the dessert is free - track degradation - the only new aspect of gameplay.

And how would you expect such a meal to look like? That's right, it looks dated even at ultra.

    Lacks content, worth ~£20.

DiRT Rally 2.0 plays nothing like the original DiRT Rally, it's not a simulator in fact I'm really not sure what Codemasters is trying to do with the series now. I was under the impression that the Dirt Rally series would be the sim version of the game and just the regular Dirt series was the arcade version. I guess I was wrong...

Lets start with times and balances, Codemasters is all over the place with ai times. I feel like they dumbed down the game to make it easier for people to play and in return they altered the ai times to beat considerably. So basically they added a ton of stability and traction to the game and jacked up the times to beat is what I'm experiencing.

Now it seems like a lot of cars are missing, I'm getting the impression that we lost a bit of inventory and that inventory ended up in a marketplace. It seems as if they are starting to lean towards some of the same shady practices that other developers use to sort of kindly force people to buy cars off the store. Certain races with very limited options unless you purchase them, if you're going to half bake a game then half bake the price as well please. These types of developer choices ruin reputations with the player base, I would urge Codemasters to stop since their games are not popular enough to support these types of practices. Not only that it's shady as you can get.

The game is a hybrid of Dirt Rally with much more control and stability but much faster career competing times. Faster than actual world record times..LOL!! Hilarious.

Overall if you're a fan of Dirt Rally this game is nothing like it as in terms of stability, traction and control. It's very arcade like and Codemasters is starting to lean towards the marketplace more and more taking cars away. If the times were balanced better and more cares available from the start for specific classes I would recommend. As of right now I would pass unless you get a great sale.

Middle of the road rally game, nothing really stands out with almost no risks being taken in the gameplay design and overall feel of the game. Graphics are very average for a 2019 racing game, this is extremely pronounced when the game has you driving through the heavy rain weather scenario, the rain looks terrible and very low res.

The only saving grace for this game is the driving mechanics and the audio, they feel great and give you a good sense of driver feedback, this sadly is not enough to justify the full purchase price of the game especially with a "year pass" attached to it.

TL;DR Stay way for now, this game will go on sale and I predict relatively quickly on the steam store.

There is a lot to hate about this game, the always online thing does not bother me, apart from when Racenet goes down, which it seems to a lot sadly, and you lose progress and get given a time for 800th place when you were in the top 50 with one event to go.

The DLC model has been rightly panned by most, releasing a game with new content is great, but then tying players into a DLC

The DLC model has been rightly panned by most, releasing a game with new content is great, but then tying players into a DLC paywall model which is basically all old content with some new stuff mixed in is weak at best and downright rude at most.

The new stages are good, but tend to be either fast or slow, meaning bunches of very slow low gears bends, or very fast sections, not much in between like the first game.

Physics are a little better, the poor cars from the first game have been improved, the track condition thing is not much of a big deal really.

But some things are annoying, odd penalties for very little, grass that is as slippy as ice in 100 degree heat in Australia, sides of roads that are concrete but look like piles of sand or grass, not being able to use your own car for practice, yet being forced to grind for hours to upgrade tour car to be able to compete in events against other players.

All in all, this is basically a giant patch for Dirt Rally, same vars, stages, but some new ones and a much improved rallycross, but other than that, it is the same game really.

It's an arcade simulator. I get what they're trying to do though, appease both sides of the gaming market. However, it doesn't work well as there are no people in the middle. Make it an arcade game, or make it a simulator. The only other issue I can think of is always-online DRM. The solution to this, buy the game, but download the pirated copy to eliminate that issue.

Graphics 7/10 for 2019, just take a look at Horizon or Project CARS.
Controls 6/10, Awful for Steering system, OK for keyboard

As often is the case with Codemasters, Dirt Rally 2.0 failed to properly build upon the success of its predecessor. Even if we disregard the blatant DLC-milking, there’s still the issue of quirky physics and poor sound effects. [Issue#237, p.42]
