    A slightly worse game than deus ex. Which is one of the best games ever made. It improves a LOT of smaller things, adds a better atmosphere and music, better core mechanics. And a slightly smaller world and a slightly less fantastic story - With a lot of options of approach, but still less than the original.

    Let me begin my review with a small advice. Try not to compare Human Revolution to the original Deus Ex too much. Why? Because the more you're going to do it, the less you're going to enjoy it. Human Revolution has some similarities to the original, where original still prevails, but it also has many differences, and it's mostly those differences that make it an outstanding and somewhatLet me begin my review with a small advice. Human Revolution has some similarities to the original, where original still prevails, but it also has many differences, and it's mostly those differences that make it an outstanding and somewhat innovative game. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a prequel to the original Deus Ex. It takes place in the year 2027, when human augmentations were still only at their early stages and as a result were subject to a lot of controversy. You play as Adam Jensen, a manager of security at Sarif Industries, one of the leading augmentation tech companies. However, after a surprise attack by secret ops on the facility, Adam was left mortally injured. As a result he got augmented and now 6 months later is ready to uncover the truth behind the attack. The storyline of the game is fairly good, although it is not its strongest point. There are interesting twists and turns along the way of course, and most of the major characters are very well-developed, but I think it's mostly the gameplay that makes this game. Just as with the previous games in the series, DX:HR is about analysing the combat situations and having freedom to approach them in multiple different ways. You can go guns blazing if you wish, or you can sneak in. You can hack to learn the door code, you can utilise your superior social skills, or you can simply find an alternate way in. You get the idea. The augmentation system is slightly different to previous Deus Ex games since you can upgrade them both via special praxis kits AND through gaining experience. The other thing is that if you played through all the side quests and explored, you can by the end of the game pretty much acquire all of the augmentations and enhancements, whilst in the original that was not quite the case. So it's all a matter of prioritising which you wish to get early on and which later. Some new features that really make DX:HR shine that the original didn't have are 1) the takedowns - knock out or kill your target in a special way by coming right up close to him/her; 2) the cover system - instead of just shooting mindlessly, you really need to be taking cover a lot or else you will die too easily; the good thing about it is that the cover system in this game is very flexible and dynamic - you can take cover pretty much behind anything, and you can move between different covers very easily; 3) the hacking mini-game - every time you hack into a computer or a door console, you will have to play a very fun, yet challenging at times, mini-game. DX:HR has a somewhat of unique graphics. The colour palette is mostly in the yellow and golden colours. Personally I am not too fond of it, because I hoped to see some more colour variation in the game, but this "yellowness" is not too bad and you get used to it. The in-game music is very impressive and the voice acting is great too. The dialogues are very well-written and a lot of the time you get to choose what to say, what adds variation and a great degree of role-play, allowing you to mold Jensen's personality into what you want him to be. Finally I'll mention that just as with previous Deus Ex games, you get multiple endings, and those raise some really interesting philosophical issues, which is a sweet way to end a great game. I'll highly advise you to check out each of the endings. Overall a fantastic game. Although in many ways the original is still better, DX:HR offers a lot of new stuff, what makes it a worthy rival to the original game, and overall puts it well above majority of the games out there.… Expand

    It's the best game I have played in years. I couldn't stop playing it...
    I explored as much as I could on my first play-through, it took 39 hours to complete and I loved every minute of it.
    As I was playing, I knew there were a ton of different ways I could approach the objectives and I am really looking forward to playing through the game again, but completely differently. The story is    It's the best game I have played in years. I couldn't stop playing it...

    The story is great, the characters are great, the gameplay is amazing whatever way you choose to play it (and there is plenty of choice).

    Like others have said 'captures the original almost perfectly' Were it falls short of the original it makes up for it with well incorporated additions.
    To those writing bad reviews, that's fine, you dont like it; but 'Bad Game?' just look at the positive reviews from newcomers and die hard Deus Ex fans across the net. Perhaps you should ask yourselves 'do I have bad taste?' The plot that directs the story, and the sub-plots that surround it, are state-of-the-art for a video game. Now a warning: If you just want a shooter to kill some time, this is NOT your game. It's system is not particularly amusing, though is extremely rich in terms of possibilities, but covering and shooting through this game is just not worthy. If you're a fan of the stealth mode, then this game definitely delivers, and lets you choose between a thousand options in every single combat situation.     The game plays more like an immersive sim than a game geared towards relying on a new mechanic. It relies on your ability to enjoy the narrative and story as its selling point, not some stealth mechanic, some shooting mechanic, some cover mechanic, some hacking mechanic, or some talking mechanic. The gameplay itself is means to an end -an end which you choose.

    Fantastic game, quite simply the game I awaited for 10 years. A true Deus Ex gameplay with multiple paths everywhere and a deep, complex and intricate story with memorable characters....the level design is very good, the art direction is flawless. I mean, the game is obviously not perfect and there are still room for improvement here and there, but the general level of the title is of veryFantastic game, quite simply the game I awaited for 10 years.     I was waiting for Human Revolution since I saw the first trailer. That game is full of things I love the most - cyberpunk and specific atmosphere. I wonder who projected the clothes of NPCs and architecture - that person [or group of people] is a genius. The music is awesome too. I wish only that the world in game was a bit more open, but it is still a perfect game for me, so I won'tI was waiting for Human Revolution since I saw the first trailer.     One of the best games I have played in a long time. I believe the game has to be played in its entirety to unleash the full experience. The plot takes a white to surface and the conversations are lengthy, but both are minor hiccups in an amazing game!

    This game is awesome! One of the best stories in a game, one of the best soundtracks in a game, one of the best protagonists in a game and one of the best sceneries in a game.In short: one of the best games ever! For me, this is the game of the year, sorry to MW3 and BF3 fans.

    This is easily the best game I have ever played in my life. That is an incredibly heavy statement comming from me. Better than the first in every way. It's not just hype either, I've been TRYING to find things to dislike. I can't, it's so fluid, and just.... wonderful.

However after reading a couple good reviews I decided to buy it and i haven't looked back. This game is amazing, from the storyline to the combat to the subtle laughs the game is the best i have played in a while. I am a big fan of RPG's. This game is amazing, from the storyline to the combat to the subtle laughs the game is the best i have played in a while. I am a big fan of RPG's. I love games like Oblivion and Morrowind, yet I can honestly say this game trumps both of those games. The game looks beautiful, despite all those to say it looks like a console game.     Awesome game, thoroughly enjoyed it and played it through twice (2nd run was no kills for achievement), my only criticisms would be the inventory and some slightly wooden voice acting.

    I simply love this game! Great story, great gameplay and full of things to explore.
    Graphics may not be the best, but still looking good.
    First time I beat the game made me start again on hardest difficulty.
    Recommended!

The combat is clunky and awkward, and although the stealth is some of the best i have seen in a while, only beaten out by Splinter Cell and a few other games, it is way too easy. In Splinter Cell you have to plan every moveI never played the original but this game is good, and also overhyped. I like this game but it doesn't deserve the 9's and 10's a lot people and critics are giving it. The combat is clunky and awkward, and although the stealth is some of the best i have seen in a while, only beaten out by Splinter Cell and a few other games, it is way too easy. In Splinter Cell you have to plan every move and taking out a guard is a severe risk because even four or five rooms down the line a guard can discover the body of one of your victims on accident. Guards would realize some of their men are missing if you take too many of them out and radio to other guards to be on alert making the rest of the game harder. The different alert levels also helps Splenter Cell. In DEHR once you get out of a room nothing else really matters. Bodies are too easy to hide and there are no consciences to taking out guards. You can get into a firefight and kill 6 guys only for the next room to be completely unknown about your presence. Without an alert level for the enemy AI this game is too easy. In SC, If you get caught in one room and have a firefight, the rest of the facility is on alert. Im not saying they should have to fight you every time in DEHR, but in splinter cell guards would act accordingly. They would draw weapons and look in places they usually wouldn't, and would also go and get better weapons and body armor to react to the threat making detection in the game actually mean something and add difficulty. After all this complaining, the story is easily this games best part. Its what keeps me playing even through this games flaws. I would easily recommend the Splinter Cell series along with Dishonored and the Hitman Series over this game, but this game isn't bad. Its just there is stuff a lot better out there.… Expand

    I completed DE:HR Directors Cut in 29.5 hours.

    I don't like the colour tint on everything. The only word to describe the graphics is flat, (excluding cut-scenes). The sound and the feel of the guns is not AAA, it's B grade. My biggest complaint though is, it's so slow. Sometimes you are just plodding around and nothing is getting done.     I bet this game has my highest number of time starting it up, because I do ten to thirty minutes get bored and close down. It's so boring sometimes that I have bought and played The Evil Within twice, while playing DE:HR.

    Probably my equal biggest gripe though, is getting lost. The maps are quite big. They are often in two halves and linked by a loading screen. You'll get a task, struggle like hell to find and get to it even with a waypoint. Then you'll struggle unbelievably to get back to base. Only to get another task and sent back again. Finding it second time is just as confusing.

    Hacking, always hacking. Last mission I must have hacked seventy terminals. It's not really entertainment. If I had more sense I would give up. I have Alien Isolation downloaded and waiting. I have the new Wolfenstein. Eight new games waiting for me. Only I want to get unfinished games out of the way first.

    Final complaint being last but not least. This game is full of areas with alarms. Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah! On and on until you find a panel to switch it off. I mean probabaly 1/5 of the game I was listening to a klaxon in repeat cycle.

    Really it's a strong 64% rating. Consider this, it makes you sit through ten minutes of credits for an un-interesting and very short cut scene after. That's a perfect example of the attitude of the whole game.    … Expand

    Awesome stealth action RPG, with a very smart, well written and interesting story. The game has a great art style and near future aesthetic, but the graphics are disappointing even by the standards of 2011.

    I got this game through a weekend special on Steam so my financial investment was not full price, but I still consider it a waste considering current standards. Right from the beginning I found the story implausible and down right ridiculous but I soldiered on hoping that the game play would be worth the investment. But the game never really drew me in, the controls are awkward and the visuals look tacky & ugly most of the time. The last straw was the boss encounters which I absolutely hate. After the second one came up and I wasted an hour in it, I deleted the game in disgust. Why do game designers continue to add these sections? They destroy the flow of the game and have no place in a story driven game like this one, as implausible as the story is. I enjoyed Doom in 1993 as much as the next, but boss fights have no place in a modern PC game IMO.… Expand

    The timespan is huge enough to allow Eidos to do something set in the same world without being tied down by specific ends to the plot, complete with a separate cast of characters and its own focus.

    While the "Human Revolution" might have been an interesting plot to explore, it ultimately falls short in the game. While it is clearly noticeable that the population is uneasy about the technological developments and the dangers of augmentations, only at the end of the game will real riots break out - alongside the path of Adam Jensen.
    You feel like an outsider, kept from the actual events that tear the population apart. While being fed information via emails, ebooks, TVs and other sorts of media, the game fails to involve you into its setting.

    Upon hearing that James Swallow, one of the better Black Library authors, is involved, I felt the urge to experience this title.
    The experience I got was unexpectedly forced and seemed awkward. While a lot of the ebooks provided a good read, the story told in the actual game felt shallow, leading you from one job to the next without even realizing its full potential.
    Instead of building up a solid connection to the characters by adding relevant material, you barely get to see them, and what they say is normally so limited, you simply cannot bond with them.

    Decisions don't have a real impact on the story either. Whether you choose to help a Quest NPC or not doesn't matter, even if you do, you'll see him once or twice right after the quest, gain your reward and that's that.
    Instead of incorporating these NPCs into later parts of the game, helping you out, they get abandoned asap. Characters Jensen seemingly knows from a past we've never even scratched appear and disappear without leaving marks in our lives, only adding a few credits to our pockets.

    One thing I regretted was letting my pilot, Faridah Malik die when we got shot down by Belltower soldiers. A short dramatic dialogue sequence via vox and once I passed that area, Jensen got contacted by Pritchard, who was seemingly shocked for seconds but then told Adam to not act out of revenge.
    When you later find her body in Triad-boss Tong's lair, there is no reaction, no line of regret, sadness, nothing. Abandoned.
    If I had rescued her, she'd have evacuated Megan Reed and her team later on, and disappeared afterwards. No impact.

    The end of the actual plot feels artificial, architected and unnatural. Eidos took all of the leading characters and threw them onto Panchea, and left the player with the decision to doom them all.
    Tying loose ends was supposed to work differently, especially when you don't even get a proper epilogue. Abandoned characters once again, Deus Ex Machina.    … Expand

The game's settings especially the city hubs are poorly laid out, the side quests are awful, and having to walk 1 to 2 minutes back and forth multiple times in hubs gets extremely annoying. They should've been omitted completely and stuck to a more traditional format instead of the awful hub. The story was extremely boring because it's so predictable. Anyone who has at least read some literature for pleasure can easily pick up who's the bad guy and what's going to happen. The dialogue and voice actors in general are terrible and really grated me, especially Jensen's voice. Overall the game's average and I'd have a hard time recommending it to anyone unless it's $10.… Expand

Unfortunately, Human Revolution is let down by the story, which feels watered down and all over the place. In fact, from a narrative perspective, it is an utter mess. I did not empathise with ANY of the parties involved and was left feeling that the whole game was soulless. The story was nothing short of trivial, stupid and unfulfilling, leaving many flimsy or entirely loose ends in its wake. HE - I WASN'T EVEN IN CONTROL WTF). Bottom line I ran around and saveloaded for like 2 hours, there just wasn't enough equipment and possibilities to take this "thing" down at easy (EASY!) level, and getting into meele resulted in a funky oneshot punch in my face! Or maybe there was a way, but 2 hours was enough trying for me. I've uninstalled and I'll go back to it maybe in a year to fastforward it terminator way, the way I SHOULD have been playing apparently. The main reason I did that, was simply being told by game itself to go stealth, avoid combat and be a pacifist and then be literary SCREWED OVER, put into exact opposite without any out of jail card available. This is nothing like original deus ex, even tho that game sucked in so many ways, it did give me one redeeming quality - that I could just equip GEP gun and oneshot that annoying boss aug when he ran at me, with his goodies all turned off, trying to initialize dialogue. No, this game designs the gameplay, it tells me what is the right way, what is the wrong way, it sterilizes everything to narrow the possibilities to JUST THAT and it does this so badly as to ruin not only my fun, but literally the game I'm playing, forcing me to start over!!! It is like old tabletop rpg where some jack*** game master suddenly tells you a cow fallen on you from the sky and it's game over. This story repeats over and over in every single super duper rated popular highly marketed AAA title I reach for, so I'm gonna filter them from now on and just outright ignore.… Expand

    The storyline is much in the same vein as the original, but is it's own beast... I think it does well. This is helped by a very richly detailed and immersive world, which really does live up to the pedigree of the original game. It is extremely linear, but such is Deus Ex, and I have absolutely no complaints - to me, it is blasphemy to see some people complain about a "lack of sandbox" here - it is not that kind of game.

    Graphics are not as good as I was expecting, however. There're areas where things are a bit lax (some textures, for example) and animation can be annoying and twitchy. In spite of this, the game has a wonderfully unique black & gold aesthetic, which enhances immersion even more! Music is very much ambient, but it works. The gameplay is good, and much the same as the original. I liked how upgrades worked in the original more, but the (purely) augmentation-based system here works just as well, I suppose. A heavier emphasis on hacking is alright, but I'm sad to lockpicks and multitools go - still ,these are the nitpickings of a crazed fan. :) Otherwise, you really are able to pass through levels in your own way, although certain paths will always require more patience! The game does very well in rewarding such exploration, and I think one of the greatest things about this game is that it's a world you'll *want* to explore.

    I've given it 8 and not 10 because of some annoying technical issues... I have not had any issue with load times, but I have experienced lots of crashes running Dx11 mode... annoying. The game is buggy as hell, but I'm sure these will be ironed out in time.

    Ultimately, this is a wonderful game which I am enjoying thoroughly. Like the original, it is not for everyone... and like the original, it may take a tiny bit of a patience to get to the good stuff, but all the same, this is a game deserving of the "deus ex" title. Also, one final gripe: if you're skipping a portion of a conversation with the space key, it doesn't just skip the part that the subtitles are displaying, it skips the speaking character's entire remaining dialogue. Also the dialogue isn't stored for review unlike everything else in the game.
    World depth. The city hubs are very similar to the way that ME and ME2 are handled (the map provides you a view of where you can go, not what is there necessarily, it makes it easier to get around but it isn't very realistic) There is a scarcity of side-quests and the game play isn't as open as I'd like. You're forced to go between the various locations; you don't get to pick where you're going to go. There aren't many NPCs to chat with. If you jot down the codes from the first time through you can save a lot of hassle but lose the experience. Also, for the Ghost and smooth operator bonuses, you never know when they start keeping track of them or when you no longer qualify.
    Inventory: you have a standard grid based inventory with massive weapons (the sniper rifle takes up 2x6) and odd stacking rules (you can stack ammo, health power ups, energy bars, energy packs, but not energy "tubs" or grenades) also, when picking up a weapon, you automatically just take the ammo. This makes selling weapons to get more credits a repetitive chore as you have to drop your weapon (that you've probably modified) pick up the new weapon, go to a dealer, sell it then go back and get your weapon. I think most of these choices were made to encourage players to chose a stealth vs kill play style (with stealth, you'd leave the killing weapons behinds, stock up on stunning weapons and energy packs).
    Bosses: bosses are pretty easy and straight-forward. The big problem comes for stealth players because there's no way to incapacitate bosses and no tricky way to manipulate the environment, you have to kill them with live ammo. Movement: With all the free-running games out there now (especially made by Eidos Montreal) and you being the penultimate augmented human, you'd think they'd have let you climb more. I like the cover system, but can stand to be improved.
    Energy consumption: You need energy to use some of your augmented skills. You can get more batteries as you need them but for some reason only the last one will recharge (unless you only half use one)...I guess goes along with your play choices as to whether or not you want to go stealth and use a lot of energy. The problem there is that there is a scarcity of vendors selling energy products and when they do sell them they have a very limited supply.

    Wow, a lot of complaints! Most of those are pretty nit-picky in my opinion. The game still stands up on it's own.

    The good: The story. The plot is great, in my opinion. It's a bit of a rehash of and remix of other Deus Ex games but what starts out as a simple plot gets more and more complicated. If you've read a conspiracy theory laden game before you'll probably be able to guess some of the twists as they come but it was exciting and kept me gripped. I thought the game play was good, tilted to non-lethal game play (more respect from NPCs, more exp, more opportunities) but I could see turning the game into a bloodbath for fun on a second run through.
    The speaking mini-games were pretty in depth even if they were fairly linear. in the persuasion talks you have, on one time through a speech option that originally worked in my favor was scorned the second time around. I thought it was interesting the bit of realism they added there. The augmentations are great and add to the game play. It's nicely explained away why most of them are unusable unlike in the first one where you had to add on as you played and why they'd call an agent "trained" when they can't hold a rifle steady or hack the simplest computers.
    The visuals and visual concepts are also great. It's a dark renaissance world with bleak and glorious all mixed in.

    Despite the problems, this is a great game, highly recommended.    … Expand

    The mechanics where terrible!! It had the fluidity of bread dough going through a sif. The controls where ok, but the act and reactions of everything where horrible, including animations that seemed to have nothing to do with what was actually happening to that NPC.
    Performance issues! Your telling me that I can run Crysis perfectly but I should lag on this piece of crap that I won't even rank in the same decade of graphical quality?
    I'll admit the only part I'll give this game some points is that the story wasn't too bad, quite cool actually, but it didn't pull me in and make me feel invested in the characters like some other games in the past have.
    It felt too me too much like a failed attempt at copying other titles that did what they did much better... And i know the original Deus Ex predated all these games, but then it only means they haven caught up with the times.
    The stealthy and augmented capability fighting was way better in crysis.
    Oh and then you have the bugs.

    Again i've wasted Money for a incredible boring Game. The firefights are so far not that bad, its just the lack of any interesting story line and stupid gameplay features that pisses me of. There is also the incredible bad Graphics (esp. character design/facial expression) which seem to be from a different century.

    Pretty bad. While the graphics are reasonably good, the frame rate is absolutely terrible even on a reasonably fast computer (5750, i5-2500). Lots of random slowdowns, and 5-10 fps out in Detroit. If you don't like stealth games, you won't like this game; the FPS and RPG angles are pretty poorly done. I stopped playing after about 4 hours.

    So, despite my initial skepticism when I first heard about this game ,thinking it was going to be a dumbed down version of the original ( DE2 anyone) I eventually gave in to the hype and bought it.

    I immediately didn't like the look of the game . The modified Crystal Dynamics engine makes it look & feel like a console game. The overall yellowish hue that has been lauded by some irritated the hell out of me. I mean I really hate it , this alone would be enough to ruin the game for me if it didn't have so many other glaring flaws. The incongruity of some of the graphics was laughable. Some of the 2d backgrounds look like they were drawn by a four year old with a blunt crayon. An absolute terrible choice of graphics engine.
    It is completely devoid of the atmosphere which was a big part of what made Deus Ex so great .
    So many other games look & feel so much better and have infinitely more atmosphere. Eg. Crysis 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Rage etc even the very consoley Mass Effect,
    Of course sub standard graphics are easy to overlook if the gameplay is good . I personally thought the cover system was ok - again it adds to the overall console feel of the game the way it jumps to 3rd person but it was well implemented & it did come in handy. As has been mentioned by others the hacking system quickly becomes tedious and most of the hacking augs are pointless. The weapons were ok if not unoriginal & uninspiring. The auto-kill button (stealth kill) & the Typhoon is pure cheese. The AI is generally sub par . The level design feels narrow & claustrophobic yet it still manages to make navigation difficult at times. The navigational map is truly pointless and clunky to use. There is no feeling of contrast between the different level like in the original 10 yr old game. (Such as the large open world maps , dank sewers & undersea labs in Deus Ex) . As for the RPG elements this game is linear as hell , you don't really get to make choices that matter and as other reviewers have pointed out it doesn't matter if you butcher everything in sight or try and stealth your way through the entire game (btw, you can't) . This becomes very evident at the ending of the game which was just ridiculous.
    The combat is ok , the weapon models are acceptable but this all turns to excreta when you encounter your first (what the ..) boss battle! Really , boss battles in Deus Ex? The overall length of the game is way shorter than the original , it lacks it's depth , it's choice, it's atmosphere . It won't make you want to play it again and again. It failed to deliver what much older games of the same genre to Deus Ex did like Blood Lines:Masquerade & System Shock.
    This game would have been a mediocre 5 or 6 if it didn't have the words Deus Ex attached to it but IT DID so it gets a fat zero.
    Don't waste your time or money.
    On the upside , Skyrim is out in a few days - it will have over 300 hrs of RPG gameplay goodness.    … Expand

If anyone who played this has ever tried sneaking without getting alarms you're in for the hardest time of your life. Or even playing the game on a difficulty above easy. The game was moderately enjoyable,Human Revolution has interesting combat, and an interesting plotline. However the ending has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the series, and the AI is broken beyond all belief.     Gameplay: I'm somewhat confused about the genre of this game, while it is meant to be an RPG, I fail to see the point of upgrading my character, anyone who's been playing for any FPS for longer than 5 years should be able to get through the game without any upgrades, the NPCs are extremely dumb, they have the field of vision of someone who's glued two toilet rows to their eye socket, you can literally walk straight pass someone's side and they wouldn't know, apparently in the future, peripheral vision doesn't exist in human anymore. It's very easy to take out 4 guys in a room without alerting any of them, their predictable, and unrealistic path means you probably don't even have to, and should you wish to knock them out, all it takes is a press of a button. The take-down action looks like a bad mixture between Assassin's Creed and some 80s action flick, extremely exaggerated sound effects, and perhaps most importantly, not one bit stealthy. Were the architects of every building in the world part of Sarif and could see into the future, putting vents at exactly where Jensen needs every single time? Conclusion: This is a stealth game where all environment are almost always perfectly lite, bodies can't be hidden, and lights can't be turned off. It's an RPG game where upgrading your character is purely for jokes as oppose to a necessity to beat the game, enemies take no effort to beat, and are so stupid chances are you just walk straight pass them and they wouldn't care. The worst part about this game is it's shamefully poor renditions of real world cities none of the staff have obviously ever visited. The game starts off in Detroit 16 years in the future with buildings that are miles apart in real life, renamed and placed next to each other on roads that either don't exist, or are not supposed to intersect. This is not an open world game either, the maps are very restrictive, and if you fail a mission, instead of restarting, you continue on with all the other characters telling you how disappointed they are with your performance. They marketed that as a feature. What really threw me off were the high reviews from sources I usually trust. When a game is this well received, it usually does either something truly innovative, or raises the bar on an enjoyed gameplay mechanic. Theres always something there you can use to negate an aspect of gameplay. For example if you can't be bothered to hack you can use automatic unlocking devices; if you find it too taxing to negotiate areas with enemies they'll allow you to see through walls or if you want to be immune to the effects or concussions or gas grenades you can have that too. The skills don't really add anything special to the gameplay. It's like they have gone to great lengths to accomodate the needs of your average short attention span console player.

    Exploring the graphically uninspiring environment is pretty pointless. I got tired of hacking into places or robbing shops for credits or for extra ammo or weapons i already possessed. Occasionally you will find a weapon you might want or upgrades for your existing weapons, but that doesn't happen that often.

    The graphics are blocky and bland, and there is a distinct lack of texture and detail to the envoironment.

    The story is just mediocre. It didn't keep me interested. What kept me playing the game was that i paid for it and didn't want feel like i had wasted money.

    This game feels formulaic, like its been tinkered with to try and be all things to all people, but ends up being mediocre. It's like one of those movies that are made by producers that throw in all kinds of rubbish to try and appeal to the biggest demographic to increase sales. But, **** me, was I in for a rather unpleasant surprise. Outdated "consolized" graphics and even worse controls, increasingly annoying door hacks, piss-poor AI, generically bland weapons, god-awful cover system and many more. However, all of that bleaks in comparison to, you guessed it, BOSS FIGHTS! In a stealth game! WTF, Eidos? What have you been smoking, when you decided that a full-stealth character (no armour, no aim stabilization - no combat skills at all) can take a minigun-wielding tank of a boss? At least you managed to leave some gas canisters and exploding barrels around the room, but still - this is Deus Ex (sort of) not Quake. For the second boss you have to have EMP Shielding or you'll end up running around spraying lead all over the place trying to catch those telltale circles on the water surface. Up to that point I encountered exactly zero EMP attacks, what on Earth would compel me to get the aug which is in a 'combat' branch I haven't even unlocked yet? Oh, and we still have to stack crates, when all the other cyberheroes learned to climb. All in all, it left a stale, utterly disappointing aftertaste. Your game style (combat/stealth) has no influence on how your boss fights unfold or the choices you get at the end ("push a button to complete the game").     *Story: would be mediocre all on its own, but is rendered completely meaningless by the fact that the main character is a self-contradictory, detached robot who seems brilliant and educated in one moment and then socially, strategically, or tactically retarded in the next. 10 hours into the game, I forgot what was even happening. I still couldn't tell someone else the plot if they held a gun to my head.

    This game should get a zero, but I will give it ONE POINT: nipples. Well, almost nipples, but there is no selection for a half point.

    Do not buy this terrible game, unless it is the first game you have ever played and you have money to burn. In that case, you might marvel at its elements, which appear outdated and generally terrible to anyone who has played a video game since 2005.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall I think this game is good. I hate RPGs, so I appreciate that you don't have to care about the story or listen to hours of NPC drivel. Instead, you can just play it as a stealth shooter-type game or whatever. But what totally kills this game are the arbitrarily difficult boss battles. There is nothing of sufficient challenge leading up to the boss battles to prepare you for them. If you've relied mostly on stealth tactics for other parts of the game, you're screwed because they don't work against bosses. Many have raved about how this game allows you to play in your own style. That's true except for the boss battles. Hopefully you just happened to select the correct augmentations along the way to get through them so they aren't too much of a disruption.

    I was annoyed by the first boss battle but got through it well enough. But the second one where you fight the "she-aug" in front of the giant AI news-bot thing is just stupid. I used my augmented vision to chase her around the arena pumping 200 heavy machine-gun rounds into her then another 70 rounds from the combat rifle, then a few rounds from the pistol. There was no sign of this causing her any harm so it's strange she kept running away. She clearly had the impervious-to-bullets augmentation. By the way, when do I get one of those for myself? So my conclusion is that this game is lacking in continuity to a degree that may annoy those who do not normally play action-RPGs. Given how easily my character can die, it seems like 200 heavy machine-gun rounds should take care of just about any human, augmented or otherwise.    … Expand

    Great game, loved the storyline. Not the greatest game of all time, but certainly worth my 50 bucks.

    If you want a good, sci-fi game that flows well but is challenging enough to keep you interested, this one's for you. But be warned, a few fights in the game can be very hard if you're ill equipped, you need to think outside the box sometimes to win even on normal difficulty.

Now on to the cons. For much of the first year post-release the game suffered from a debilitating stuttering issue. The fact that the game was sold in such a condition is disgraceful. Square Enix should be embarrassed and I never want to see a game released in such condition again. However I believe the stuttering issue has been fixed close to a year after release. Aside from the technical problems, there are other issues with the game. The controls are not customizable enough on PC (e.g. there is no way to hold sights instead of toggle sights) which I found very annoying. Also there is an almost overbearing emphasis on stealth. Sometimes I found missions taking forever to complete because of the difficulty of the AI. You are extremely vulnerable even with armor upgrades. This means that you're almost forced to stealth your way through the entire game. I'm not saying it's too hard... it's hard, but I'm fine with that. I just wish there was a way to play other than sneaking around everywhere, hiding behind boxes for 30 seconds at a time and timing your movements precisely. That gets boring and repetitive after a while. Overall, it's a 6/10 but still worth checking out. It's got many positive aspects and the things that bothered me might not bother someone else.… Expand

Sadly there's no shadows to hide within but I still had plenty of fun sneaking my way through a very convincing science fiction world. It has an interesting story and the varied missions kept me busy. Plenty to do and it had an easy learning curve too. Really nothing to moan about. Oh exceptJust finished it. This game is genre defining title and it is so immersive that you do not know how and the 25 to 30 hours you spent in the game are long gone. The problem is there were a few decent side missions in Detroit and then even less in the second and last city, hengsha or whatever it's called. This is a game with multiple endings, and multiple paths for every objective. I really enjoy games that give moral decisions to players, with differing outcomes. Music: The soundtrack for this game was very dark and visceral, and well put together. It reminded me of the score from TRON: Legacy, which is a good thing. Voice Work: The voice acting was nicely done. I'm not sure that Jensen's voice needed to be like he was whispering most of the time, but I was able to look past it. I am glad that they actually had many of the Chinese characters speak mandarin, and showed English subtitles when they spoke. It is attention to these details that make a quality product. Between that and the beautiful level design, especially Hengsha, I felt very immersed. which brings me to Graphics: This is a game that is easy on the eyes and on the video card. Think Blade Runner dipped in gold. The clothing that the characters wore was very stylized to be a mixture of futuristic and renaissance. I think the developers pulled it off perfectly. Adam's apartment is gorgeous, while watching his blinds open and reveal the city of Detroit below. The technology featured in the game was also very impressive, and came off as believable, especially when you read all of the in-game e-Books that you find, where they describe how the augmentations work. The weaponry came in light, medium, and heavy, for all different styles of shooters, as well as lethal and non-lethal. The hacking mini-game was fun at first, but later started to become a chore, especially after all the hacking upgrades, you knew you were going to win every time. Overall, a wonderful edition to the Deus Ex Universe, and a triumphant game. Congratulations Eidos Montreal. You nailed it!… Expand

    In the first part of the Deus Ex played quite late, in 2004. But from the very beginning I knew that this game is a genius. Extraordinary and captivating story was the biggest advantage of the game. In my opinion Deus Ex: Human Revolution perfectly captures the spirit of the original and moved it in 2011. Absolutely you have to play! For me the game of the year 2011.

But look at the 1998 level of textures in the environments and you can see that they share the same low standards. The game seems to try too hard to compensate for its poor visuals with an 'edgy story' that is really parade of cliches washed over in a dreary and unrelenting sepia palette! The rooms and physical assets of the game feel retro and clunky, the same dumbassed boxes piled literally EVERYWHERE. The same cliched airducts and waist high glass walls for cover. The same dumb computer terminals. All looking like the next best thing from 1998. Playing this game I'm sorry to say I felt embarrassed for the development team. Their hearts were in the right place and the augumentations were kind of ok. In the end I couldn't be assed using stealth, because I didn't want to waste time trapped in the dreary maze of always-the-same places assets and choices. Just run up to bad guys and shotgun them in the face. There is no penalty for failure as death just puts you back a few meters and lets you try again. This game didn't bring Deus Ex into the 21st century. it leaves it stick back in the 20th. Thankfully the publisher understands the real worth (lessness) of this game and often has it on sale for around $7 on Steam. At this price it is not too painful and is recommended as a tutorial in the perils of LACKING AMBITION to shine. The high number of 10 svores in here are unbelievable. I hope that the development team stop spending time creating spurious accounts to boost the reputation of their work, and instead spend their energies earning real 10s by making BETTER GAMES.… Expand

This is not to say that the the story concept was flawed or bad, rather the environments are sterile, overly large, uncluttered, and completely unbelievable affairs. This is not a well thought out universe that feels lived in.     It was a fairly decent game I enjoyed taxing bad guys and shooting gangsters,but when I reloaded the game from a save point the game graphically glitches out I mean you couldn't even see the player in cover that's how bad out it was therefore this game gets a zero

    Story is average at best. The final morale monologue is silly. Action based combat is ok, the sneaky way is super benevolent, guards have like 60degree to see you so you can sneak almost directly in front of them. It gets very fast repetitive. The small city hubs are a joke.

If you made the mistake of focusing on stealth you might have to start over at that point. There's nothing new or innovative about this game and the features they've picked has all been implemented much better before. The story is about how prosthetics are causing worldwide riots and terrorism... come on, prosthetics!? They try really hard to make it seem bad but fail miserably. Humans are already "augmented": glasses, watches, cars, phones; nothing new there. To be frank, the frame-rate issues I have encountered while playing even the first fifteen minutes of Deus Ex: Human Revolution have been unacceptable by any means, practically rendering the game unplayable (let alone an enjoyable experience). Would I recommend this game to one of my friends? By no means. Perhaps the issues I have suffered are individual, but that still doesn't give me a reason to give this game a good score. When I made the Steam purchase of Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Augmented Edition,with the two DLC packages) for $65.00, I also bought The Binding of Isaac for $5. As of now, I have enjoyed The Binding of Isaac much, much more than Deus Ex. I can tell S. Enix put work into the creation of this game, so I give it a 4/10.… Expand

    average at best.it was one of games when all interest is gone and you just want to complete the game.the same theme through, hack computers, crawl through vents, easy bosses even on hard.it just was a huge overrated failure.

The game is linear, the "cities" feel artificial and dead, you can't really interact with anything except through the few obvious paths. Except for that, the voice acting is not convincing and the goldI loved the first Deus Ex game (as a kid) and played it through, so my expectations were high to begin with. Deus Ex Human Revolution didn't get even close to meeting my expectations.     Bad porting for controller on pc again. I have a disability in my right hand so need to use a gamepad to play.
    The controlling I find so sluggish and lagging that I can barely hit the enemy. After 40 mins I managed to take out 4 guys.......the lag is alot less with mouse....

    The audo delay problem hasn't been fixed in one and a half month among with another technical difficulties. Unplayable with continous delay of any sound effect.

    Picked this up on the cheap for $10 at target and I'm just not feeling it. I'm not a fan of the sierra 3d engine, the controls are stiff and lack any type of fluidity found in most fps games. Additionally the acting is pretty terrible in this game. I know most people are fan's of the first game but for me, as a newcomer to the series this just didn't pull me in. I doubt I'll finish it.

    The 3rd person cinematic for takedowns and fall implant breaks up the flow and becomes irritating, the cover mode/look however, is cool. The different approaches, so much spoken of, feels like a repetition over and over, with air ducts, hackable door locks or brute force. The ugly*:
    Finally, the end credits, it feels like I'm visiting some distant relatives which is having a slideshow of people I care nothing about. To be harsh, it breaks the immersion I had in the game, and becomes everything but a reward for finishing.

    The graphics are definitely not top of the range, the K.I. isn't super clever and most of the game inventions are stolen from other games. From my point of view: Totally overrated and another fast food game.

    The most innovative aspect to the first game was the sheer scope to complete levels in multiple ways. The levels were so big and intricate you really felt part of a real world where you had the choices. On top of this the augmentations made a huge difference in terms of how you could complete levels and dictated the kind of player you wanted to be. In this sequel it feels much more rushed and less complete. The levels are populated by very few characters who do more than give you the stock, non-interactive answers, and as soon as you get off the beaten track instead of finding new interesting puzzles and bonuses, you find doors you can't enter and routes you can't explore. On top of this the augmentations just don't really change the gameplay much. In the original I replayed the game several times choosing different augmentations and thereby having a very different experience each time. This kept the game fresh and exciting. In this game the aug's don't really alter how you play, other than making it a bit easier here and there, and in the case of the typhoon system making it too easy really. There also isn't the noticeable difference as you upgrade. In the original game the sniper rifle was pretty useless as a novice; by the time you were an expert with a couple of weapon mod's added it became incredibly powerful. In this sequel the weapons are quite good whatever level you are on, but never particularly great even when you are an expert.
    The sequel does have some new and interesting ideas. The conversation analysis aug that allows you to work out the best responses to give , and the way you can move between cover. But these cannot hide the fact that most of what is here is simply a rehash of the original, and in most cases a rehash that falls below the level already achieved. Add to this some levels that take an awful long time to load I can't give this more than a 6 out of 10.    … Expand

    My review is not enthusiastic and this new Deus Ex chapter really disappointed me in more than one point: dated graphics, stiff animations, very buggy AI, not a sandbox as the previous Deus Ex, ridiculous boss fights, very bad physics in objects and bodies...that's a shame for a game that could have been pretty much better :-(

    To me, this game was dead the moment I shot the first bullet. The controls are just unresponsive, and even though you hit, you don't, or vice versa.
    In order to be playable, a game has to get at least the basics right, and this game just doesn't cut it.

    I feel betrayed by the horrible boss battles. Just got to the first boss battle, I had basically just a pistol and about 50 bullets on me since I had worked primarily as a stealth guy. I had no health items on me either. Tried to get through the first boss about 10-15 times before I just gave up and uninstalled this game. It's garbage.

Lame voice acting (why not get Tom Hall back for goodness sake), boring level design, same run of the mill stealth and first person modes, and finally the horrible hacking crap. I wanna play THE game not a game within a blinking game. Only thing it has got going for it is this weird aug varied world, but it sure as heck doesn't deserve the name Deus Ex.. its got little to do with the original, no interesting enemies (what happened to the robot guys and the creatures from the conspiracy labs?), only 2 hubs, and crappy weapons. I gave it a 4 mostly because it is a semi-good time wasting game if your new to the series but really it has nothing to do with the original which is why I gave it such a low score. Shame on the developers taking this approach to an original universe, guess we gotta live with it. Back to playing the original game for me. oh yeah don't pay 60 dollars for it. I alternated between laughing and crying as I went through them - so ridiculous, so unnecessary, so indicative of a lack of imagination and confidence in your product. I played through all the Boss Fights, but in doing so, I lost all interest in a second play through. You could have redeemed yourselves by providing the player with the choice of skipping this nonsense. The thing i hate most of this game is the slow pace making it feel like a MMO. The skill system lacks any real fun skill to mess around with. The funnest skill by hacking and not for actually hacking the minigame for hacking is complete Its purely luck based hacking and is not challenging at all. The most challenges you will have is lvl 1-2 after that the challenges are simple as You can die from the slightest falls and unless you have the skill to make all falls do no damage but even after that your forced to watch a cutscene every single time you fall... So if your being attacked you watch yourself being shot while standing waiting for the cutscene to stop. The AI is terrible they will walk through walls and doors but not smart enough to look in vents and wth is with vents they are perfect size for you and only lead you where you need to go...? Every single boss is shoot and kill and only in the final boss do they change things up like press button then shoot and kill. The final cutscenes are just video taken from other videos mashed in together... Oh thats great you can't toss in maybe a ending where he atleast walks out of the place or what happened to the people which you just saved. Just unsatisfied completly.. Poor voice acting you always get pulled out of the enviroment or situation laughing at it. The map designs are terriiibbblle Cluttered and one direct. Side quests are pointless and don't change much. The iron sign aim is useless and off aim for most guns that use them. Why has this been reviewed so high? Has these people even played this? Oh and if you do play what way should you go? Hacking because it is the fastest for shortcuts and sneaking is slow as and usually detours you around the whole map oh and going in guns blazing can work until you run out of ammo which will happen trust me. When enemies can waste infinite amount of clips and then be killed and drop usually a single bullet or nothing at all. You must spend your time hacking to get ammunition and taking detours to stockup on ammo. Also something thats annoying its the future it sure doesn't feel like it doors don't even open automatically. Also the running is tapping it every 3 seconds so have fun with that. The funnest part i had in this game was picking up a hacked turret and using it to beat every single boss after playing it by far the easiest way to kill them. I had a pet turret sure made me slow but costs me no ammo and is faster than sneaking and shields you.… Expand

    There are only a few games this year we suggest to 16-yrs old gamers and their fathers together. Human Revolution for sure is a Game of the Year nominee. [Oct 2011]

    So despite the odds being stacked against it, Eidos Montreal accomplished the impossible and brought us a Deus Ex in the true sense of the word, probably the best one that we could have hoped for considering the current "requirements" for being commercially successful nowadays.

    A worthy successor to one of the greatest games ever. It offers a lot of choice on many levels and feels like an RPG from years past - in a very good way. One of the best, if not the best game of 2011. [Oct 2011]
