I am trying to avoid comparison to the initial sets but they had a real ambiance. By this one, paradoxically to the scenario and how the hero is involved in the story, I failed to attach to his fate.

    The good:
    - The fluidity of the gameplay
    - The quality of the graphics
    - The work on the characters

    The bad:
    - The general ambiance
    - The somewhat linearity of the scenario
    - The constant short cinematic for the take-downs
    - I miss a good DLC (I won't go into critics of the missing link)
    - The repeatability of the strategy, or the dullness of the AI

I really like this game, I just cant enjoy it because the developer will not fix the poor mouse support. The mouse aiming seems to not want to respond immediately. It takes about 8 seconds for it to respond when using a controller mouse. That's bad.

AI is purely blind and foolish, and the story is decent which I had already forgotten about it. I still haven't mention about it's bad boss fights, the devs just seem to use normal enemy AI to a more powerful "guard". I managed to survive a boss fight without losing a health since *he* just kept shooting at a wall. Finally, you will find a ridiculous fall damage height in the game to prevent this get an augmentation
Overall DE:HR is a good game but doesn't stand up to be a great game (8-10/10) in my review but it has been a fun ride playing this.

Nice game with great gameplay and freedom to choose your playstyle. The setting of the story is great with a nice atmosphere but the plot itself could have been better.

Individual sequences are not accessible to play individually.I know that they are a whole play built upon what we have chosen through playing and cannot be divided, while I'm not feeling entertained for this a bit "hardcore" set of gameplay.

Maneuver of 3rd person is not so convenient, with the "take cover" part functions like Hitman:Absolution but worse.

That said playing as a Stealthy character is brilliant, taking guards out or sneaking past can be extremely satisfying. The problem is that in Boss fights you are at a huge disadvantage. All in all I liked Human revolution I just felt so much more could have been done and really should have, the games just above average in my opinion.

I tried really hard to like this game. I really did. Ultimately though the experience just wasn't worth it. And its not so much that there was anything particularly bad (apart from one thing which was awful), it was the stack-up of a million little things that made this game unbearable to play.

The good of it was that it was a stealth game. You could avoid combat in almost every scenario with enough time and cunning. The stealth and cover system were basically well done. I can't really complain. The weapons were unique and varied, each one with its own personal flavor and the inclusion of nonlethal weapons was also a nice touch. The game's atmosphere was also well done and well maintained. I had a real sense of investment in the story and when things started turning new directions it actually managed to play with my emotions.

But that is also where the game started falling apart. Atmosphere is broken by the simple ugliness of the game as the graphics are crap and the animations are the second worst known to video games, edged out for last only by Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. Everyone animates like C3PO from Star Wars and apparently have nutcracker jaws. Really disappointing for such a big budget game. The character models are also garbage, having completely unrealistic proportions. On the note of graphics, was it necessary to make the cutscenes prerendered? They were not any better in quality than the 3d engine's graphics and the change was always unwarranted and awkward.

On the note of atmostphere breaking things, I always loved how the smallest most obscure objects managed to hide Adam's bulk. I am pretty sure you can't hide from someone who is literally looking over your shoulder. In that regard the stealth was really forgiving but on other occasions it wasn't. Can I please dispatch people 1 half of a nanosecond after they have spotted me without the entire galaxy being put on alert? No? Well as long as I am asking for things, can I have a sniper rifle scope that is bigger than 4 pixels on my screen (3 of which i should add are completely obscured by fancy guilding and golden pixels)? Ahh, I see that's a no as well.

As would also the answer to my requests for thermal vision to detect invisible enemies (we can see through walls but can't see infrared, wtf mate?), more sidequests, boss fights where the bosses don't get cheapshot attacks and that actually make use of the mechanics other than shooting (bosses are uncessarily tough, they can already one shot anyways), bosses which are explained as to why they hate me, and a story that doesn't have more "PSYCH!" plot-twist moments and ambiguity than any game I've seen to date.

You know what? That was actually all tolerable. The iffy mechanics, bad graphics, hard-to-follow story, the horsecrap boss fights - all that I can live with. The thing that ultimately broke this game for me was the ending, which to give you a taste is actually impossible to spoil because it reveals, resolves, and explains literally nothing. Its just a voice-over of Adam talking about how great he is for his final decision.

So Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Good because I felt invested and it was kinda fun stealthy gameplay. Bad because literally everything else. And compeltely bollocks ending.

Secondly Adam Jensen is the most obnoxious main character I've encountered in recent years. I want to note this game is pretty much as stealth only game, you can run and gun but the difficulty being as hard as it is (a good thing I like hard games, even played on hardest setting) pretty much makes you play stealth and silent. Now a bad thing that really gets this game to drop in rating, not only is the combat just okay but the game can be PAINFULLY boring at some point. The beginning is good, but parts of the middle (a good 7 hours) I couldn't even stay awake it was boring as **** That being said the length of this game is great, its around 40 hours (i completed it in 39.) and for the price (19$ on steam) I almost feel bad paying so low. Also should not people that love realistic future this is a must buy for those people.

In the end im glad I played this game and could see myself doing another playthrough a few months down the line.

I was really tense to play this game. In the beginning, you feel like it is really good! It seems to have a great story, the game play is a lot of fun and the dialogues are maybe not so good as in Mass Effect, but still feel fine. After a while, the game starts to feel quite repetive however. Its ok for the money I bought it, but I would not like to pay the full price for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just thought I'd add my 50 bob's worth and....... pow!! Firstly did they use Thunderbirds for the character's motion capture that was poor. Next .. what is with Jensen's voice, it was just so ..... ...... ..... boring, flat, one tone and just simply no emotion. Also considering the fact he just lost the love of his life yeh think the designers may have added something along the lines of a sad face :( . I ended up spacing through about 30% of the game because of the flat line dialogue and ruined what could have been a more imersive experience..that's my moan out of the way. Game play I have to admit was fun simply put. Storyline was interesting(Illuminati, whats not to like), but I felt it was a little stretched out chucking in the side quests and some pointless and predictive exploration to elongate an obvious short storyline.. just felt like there were some things missing. Graphics interior and exterior were nice and clear, though a little to sharp, could have softened and rounded some edges. Expand

The cover-based combat is challenging and plentiful, and some of the levels are very atmospheric, but there are also constant irritations. Sneaking around knocking out guards one by one and hiding their bodies in the ventilation ducts is fun, as is watching enemies through the walls with your augmented vision and then popping out from behind cover to shoot them in the head. Alas, you have to trudge through lots and lots of tedious exposition to get to the fun bits.

The protagonist, Adam Jensen, is humourless and unlikeable, as are all the other characters in the game, so it's hard to care about their interminable story. Although some of the voice acting is good, some of the writing is really quite bad and sometimes sounds suspiciously like it's been translated from another language, like when Jensen says that an incompetent gangster "can barely tie his own shoelaces without tripping all over himself". Characters are introduced with whom Jensen supposedly has a long history, but since we weren't there for that history, they all just come across as catty. There are some boss fights, but the bosses get no more than a cursory introduction, and most of the fights with them feel like a slog. The ending is very weak: choose one of 4 boring videos made up of cheap stock footage to watch, then credits.

Character animations look good during combat, but up close all the character models resemble shiny plastic puppets and constantly flail their limbs unnervingly. Watching the death of one character (who we only met an hour previously, but who we're supposed to care about) was unintentionally hilarious, like a deleted scene from Team America.

The technology of the game's world is strangely anachronistic. This game came out in 2011, but smartphones don't seem to feature in its vision of 2027. People are getting their bodies augmented and Jensen even has a constant audiovisual feed to his employers (although sometimes they sort of forget about this) but everyone, including Jensen, has to go to their desktop PC to read their emails, and lots of people don't bother locking their computers. People carry 'pocket secretaries' that are basically pagers and which hold a maximum of 4 messages on them, and everyone is constantly sending each other passwords and keycodes. There are old-timey news stands, but they dispense newspapers on LCD screens so... newspapers are like single-use iPads now?

Homes and offices have computers that you can either hack into, or log into with passwords found on other computers or on those 'pocket secretaries'. These provide some backstory, but I soon stopped caring what was in them apart from door codes, which save you from having to hack locked doors. The hacking minigame is terrible, your success being far too heavily reliant on luck. The occasional 'Conversation' mini-game is also dull and confusing, and it's hard to know how much your choices actually affect the story, if at all. I've only played through DXHR once (which was enough), but I doubt that any of my choices could have made any difference to the overarching plot, driven as it is by decisions that Jensen makes with no input from the player.

Sometimes it feels like the game is just messing with you. If you try using a takedown move on a boss, the boss will overpower and kill you. One cutscene clearly shows your aircraft's parachute fail to deploy and the aircraft crash into the sea, but you start the next section on the helipad anyway, with no mention of how you got out of the sea.

You can drag unconscious guards around, contorting their ragdoll bodies to fit into ventilation ducts, and they won't wake up - but if one of their buddies comes and shakes them by the shoulder, they get right back up into the fray as if nothing happened, even if your non-lethal takedown clearly broke their arm. These ventilation ducts offer shortcuts around levels, which NPCs can neither enter nor comprehend; they will watch you go into one, fire at the vent you went into and then just assume you've gone, until you pop up at another vent and the peekaboo process starts again.

Some things about the game just seem poorly implemented. For instance, it took me a while to realise that the (controller-only) quick-selection wheel highlights a primary weapon, a secondary weapon AND a consumable as you go round it, rather than just the one you end on - and accidentally drinking an alcoholic drink that temporarily blurs your vision can easily get you killed. Dead and unconscious bodies remain searchable even after you have looted them, meaning that if you take down a group of enemies their bodies can cover up weapons that they drop, preventing you from picking the weapons up without laboriously rearranging the bodies. It's strange design choices like that, that make the game feel rushed and untested, even 10 years after its release.

The main conflict of the story every intrigue spinning around is "are implants good or dangerous?" Not a difficult choice, but look what developers did there. They actually made a strong point for every point of view which reflects in actions of main heroes. Bravo! Now about small pluses: Main hero looks and talks badass! Cool close fight and other animations which integrity I desire in lots of games. Disadvantages be: unlegible vague graphics with poor choice of colors (yellow everywhere, either Detroit or China or else), Character with full HP dies falling from the height of a first floor without an upgrade, shots in zoom of automatic weapons is too bright that you can't see anything behind the fire which makes it bad weapon on last difficulty (because no crosshair on last dif.). Only the pistol has armor breaking upgrade besides the plasma gun that you'll not see until the end, which makes pistol the best weapon here. Loading screens and transitions between the locations on lift are ve-e-ery long like in the previous chapter. Also the story and text on computers or books is boring. Only the ending is cool. It's okay, at best. It's visually pretty dull, with dark and yellow-tinted cities and office buildings making up 100% of the experience, but not in an interesting cyberpunk way in an empty playground way. The stealth gameplay is okay but overall pretty simple and dull, gunplay feels limp, and the main story has very little of substance going on. Ultimately I did not enjoy it very much.
