This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All the people complaining about how their favorite gun being gone knows nothing about game design or balance. The game was getting too large and had too many op weapons. With this new dlc it gives the game life and hope for the future. The new raid guns are AMAZING and the new exotics are some of the best we have seen in a while. The new stasis subclass is great and is better now that they have released some patches . The removal of some guns has helped pvp quite a bit and I am starting to see new guns being used. If they don't change the system the game will get bland and boring. The steps Bungie has taken ensures that the game will get updates frequently and keep things balanced. The loot pool will get bigger over time we already have a pretty dissent loot pool as it is with lots of weapons feeling viable in end game content. The new raid is rewarding and challenging and some new content on Europa with a story that I am actually interested in makes this one of my favorite destiny dlcs of all time. Keep on crying about your weapons being gone and I will enjoy the game like a regular person. (PS all the salty people are warlocks don't listen to them) Expand

Epic bosses, good storyline, new subclasses, huge amount of new weapons and armor, great new destinations (Europa and Cosmodrome) and masterpiecie music. All and more means great game and hundred of hours spent in it. Dont forget that more content is coming already. So i would give this game 9/10 if i would be a reviewer but i am huge fanboy so im giving 10/10. Se you guardians!!!

Really happy with Europa, and there's still tonnes to do after 2 days. The darkness subclass is the main draw, but there are a few cool new weapons. If you're relatively new please ignore the raging hardcores..

If you don't like Destiny, you still won't. If you do however, especially the lore and PvE aspect is amazing in Beyond Light. Load times (at least on PS4) are greatly improved with the new systems and the lighting looks better than ever! If you have an issue with lack of new loot, that might be a problem but I personally don't mind because the introduction Stasis is amazing and makes up for it.

If we talk about the scale, Europe is simply huge and full of various technocratic surprises like< for example, old Clovis Bray laboratories etc. Cosmodrome - to me, as a player who has not played the first part, this location has always seemed like something very cool but unattainable, and now I can really visit it!!! And the fact that I myself am from Russia adds some magical charm. Hats off to the talent of your location designers.

In the context of PVP - of course, stasis subclasses and their abilities are a little unbalanced, but that's to be expected. No complaints.

In general, as a big fan of the game and a veteran of the second part, playing from the release on PC and XBox, I am very pleased. Great addon.

I sincerely do not understand the general vine of the majority of players who, after 2 hours of playing, shout that there is no content, and so on. In reality, Destiny 2's biggest problem is a toxic community that is always unhappy with everything.

Stasis is great, and even though it feels a bit OP in PVP, I think that it can't fully replace some of the benefits the light power give, due to the fact that it is more CC less damage focus.

The DLC massively improves the UI aspects of the game and the new subclasses are a lot of fun. The reason why I put a 9, was because I’m taking into account just the DLC, I am not including sunsetting because that was just collateral damage that pretty much hit beyond light pretty hard and is tanking the reviews and I would agree with you, if u don’t like the DLC but giving low ratings for a DLC that came out after sunsetting isn’t the DLCs fault but instead Bungie’s for poor game management. The pve with stasis feels amazing, the story is excellent but extremely short (2-3) hours and the stasis in pvp is an absolute mayhem and is 10/10 when u freeze someone and the 0/10 when u get frozen cus it makes u feel like auto closing the game. If I purely base the DLC, it would be a 9/10 but because sunsetting really **** over a lot of weapons, I would have to rate it a 7/10 if it includes sunsetting. Price tag is a little bit hefty ($40 includes no seasons) would recommend to the average player and dedicated players. If you play a little bit here and there it wouldn’t be worth paying $40 and you would most likely feel ripped off. Expand

This next part is free to play, but since this is what new players will experience first starting this expansion, I will talk about it for a bit. I played through the campaign for new players, this takes place on The Cosmodrome. The experience for new players has improved by a lot. It's a lot less confusing than before, they did a great job on the game design here. This is the time for new players to jump in and experience D2.

The average player that doesn't rush through the missions should take about 5-6 hours to get through the main campaign. This might seem a bit short, but there's plenty of stuff to do afterwards (hunting exotics, hunting stasis customization items, and more)

Environments are stunning, new enemy types, ~10 new exotics, new subclasses/abilities, new ways to customize subclasses, dynamic weather and much more. I tried out the supers on Warlock and Titan, and they are very unique and a lot of fun. Although it seems like they do not have a lot of depth at first, later you can unlock ways to customize your stasis subclass. The way to customize stasis is superior to how the original subclasses are customized, there's a lot more freedom.

Its too early to talk about endgame, since the raid will come out in a bit more than 1 week. But it's looking very promising so far. There's also lots of stuff on the roadmap planned, so we haven't seen everything this expansion has to offer just yet. Definitely recommend picking this dlc up.

The last several years of content have been removed or sunset, massively simplifying what was becoming an increasingly inaccessible game. If you previously didn't like Destiny, well... you still won't.
But as far as the looter shooter genre goes, this is the game. Bungie has years of experience in making some of the most influential shooters of the last 20 years, and all that skill and love comes into play here. The game feels great, load times are massively improved after the vaulting of stale content, and there's a whole lot of new places to explore and adventures to go on. For the first time since perhaps the launch of Destiny 2, we finally have an expansion that really feels like it's moving the universe forward on both a mechanical and narrative level.

D1 had many instances of sunsetting weapons and even some vaulting. This concept is not new to the destiny universe, where suddenly people are against it. Next, we come with how people are comparing this expansion to forsaken. Forsaken was a huge update for destiny 2, and was made in completely different circumstances compared to beyond light. This is the first bungie only expansion destiny has recieved and for a solo attempt, this is a great expansion. Forsaken had huge content due to assistance from teams like vicarious visions, which is currently unrealistic to expect from beyond light, where bungie is flying solo. Not only that, bungie has stated that this expansion will kick off with the season 12 event and the launch of the deep stone crypt raid. Its been annoying to me seeing the **** from the community. Not only this, but the loss of pvp maps and gambit maps isnt a huge deal breaker. While yes, theres a big portion of the community that plays pvp, it ultimately makes up such a small percentage of what destiny really is. Id prefer tons of cooperative PvE mechanics than tons of PvP maps and gamemodes, because thats what destiny is: a cooperative looter shooter. Expand

Many of the negative comments towards beyond light is due to “lack of content” and “is this it?” Type of comments. Beyond Light is a true sign of initiative from Bungie. They’ve really dived into the theme of building something up so effectively over time. In the first week, we discovered darkness and what exactly we could die with it along with learning about Clovis. Then when the raid launched, we found out there was so much more going on with Stasis, Clovis, and even the Fallen Houses. The raid as a matter of a fact has got to be one of if not the best bungie has made on a fun, exciting, action packed, loot filled, insane journey for every fire team to tackle. It honestly made me think back to when Kings Fall was launched. It was so hard for me and several teams but it honestly helped bring out the fun in it. Deep Stone Crypt has plenty of secrets, loot, challenges, and plenty more to entertain yourself with in the long run. All nuking a space station along with the fact of going into space to stop a fallen eco from rescuing Taniks was so badass.

After Deep Stone Crypt was completed, so much was unlocked. The Clovis bray A.I, Lamment, New secrets to discover, new aspects, so much! There’s still even more to come as well which is insane to think about. The point is, time. Time is what an MMORPG Thrives on because it’s not a simple singlet player or once done, done forever game where everything is put on a platter in your eyes. You have to look around and discover things over time. I take into consideration some annoyance factors such as sun setting, not as many things but that leaves room for new things to come in. Better things. This is why I believe beyond light deserves more respect than some are giving it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll try to hit as many points as I can with this without spoiling much, however I can't promise their won't be spoilers moving forward. I like this expansion. It's not the best Destiny 2 expansion, but it's still pretty good. A few of the gripes I've seen are weapon sunsetting and the DCV. However, I don't agree that that should be judged in Beyond Light. This is a Destiny issue, it has nothing to do with Beyond Light. Did they mess up? Yes. But that's an issue that should be disconnected from Beyond Light. I loved the characters of this expansion. The Stranger and Variks were really good, Eramis was good, and over all this expansion had good character moments, by Destiny standards at least. Drifter and Eris were a bit wasted, but that's not too much of a loss. Stasis is really fun to play around with, but I understand the PVP side of things can get frustrating. I don't play a lot of PVP, so I can't complain too much. The story over all was fun and enjoyable. Shorter than Forsaken, but that is to be expected. Lost Sectors finally have a use other than one off quests. The end game content was descent AFTER the worlds first race. Speaking of which, I have not played the raid yet, but from what I have seen, it looks really good. Atraks-1 should have been the final boss instead of Taniks, but that's only nitpicking. The content over all was good, but maybe not enough to justify such a big purge of things. Over all: I understand why people are angry, but I think the sheer amount of good content is enough to make me happy. Sunsetting and DCV are not a Beyond Light thing. It's a Destiny thing. This could have happened during any expansion, it just so happened to happen with this one. Expand

Granted it was content few people even wanted to play... it's still like removing tons of furniture from a room and now it just feels empty.

The endgame content is more or less a joke. People were quick to celebrate the Raid as being one of the best while infact it's just a bunch of really good set pieces with theoretically some good encounters that instead are just annoying instant-death mechanics with no real danger or skill requirement. The final boss of the raid is honestly a joke... of all things they could do and even hinted at... they did what they did. It's a travesty because it marks just how creatively bankrupt some of the people at Bungie are.

The raid is already boring after 3 weeks and this is going to be the only new endgame content until they reintroduce a Destiny1 raid sometime next year. It's no shock that the playerbase has already fallen back down to Pre-DLC numbers.

PvP is a travesty. Probably the worst PvP I've ever played in any game. The new abilities create some interesting options on paper but in reality exasperate existing issues while creating all new ones. Such as the Matchmaking. Never before have I seen such a mess where almost every single game is a lopsided joke round. Or how the lag can randomly make your shots do nothing or even an enemy lag teleporting around with virtual impunity.

I just cannot recommend Destiny2 anymore.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (End of BL Campaign Spoilers) I'm going to go out of my way to make my opinion heard to hopefully bring about real change with Bungie and the way that things have been going on since their split with Activision and the previous two expansions. Firstly, would I recommend Destiny 2 as a whole? Yes, since Forsaken the game has gotten so much better than it was at launch and now it is free completely to pick up. However, with the vaulting of content in Beyond Light, almost all of the free content has been wiped out of the game. It's worth noting I have many, many hours in both Destiny games because I love the gameplay, loot, raid experience, etc. that Bungie RARELY fails to deliver on. This is sadly not so true here. In this DLC we have lost so much content, and it hasn't been replaced with content that is fun. The story to Beyond Light, definitely solid and a little weaker than Forsaken and Taken King, but it is not at all as poorly told as Shadowkeep. Things end on a cohesive and somewhat tragic note as we see Eramis betrayed by both the light and the dark. It's honestly sad and I hope that in the upcoming raid, she has some part to play. The one thing that I've always hated about Destiny expansions is the fact that in D2, most antagonists in the DLC's stories, aren't in the raids. Why is this? Moving on from story. Gameplay is still very good and the main reason I constantly come back to Destiny after all these years. The thing that needs the most improvement by far, is stasis. I played through the story solo and there is some shameless story length padding when the power level of every mission will be higher than you unless you want to grind powerful drops in order to hope to be close enough to do the mission. Now, back to my problems with stasis. Considering almost every mission excluding Glassway as I was not too underleveled to do that) is incredibly higher power level than you, getting hit with stasis, to put it bluntly, **** sucks. If you get frozen then you have to hold a button to get out of it, but it damages you. WTF? I'm already frozen and being shot at, meaning I'm taking damage. How are you going to go and make me take more damage from trying to be granted the ability to move again? Remove this please, Bungie. All that aside, my first playthrough was **** miserable, as I played on launch day, struggled on the missions, as mentioned, hated using the same Forsaken blues that didn't change, etc. In conclusion, Bungie, bring back the **** you vaulted. Optimize the game better for consoles instead of removing content as a way to fix it. Clean up the code. Add more strikes, more crucible maps, more gambit maps, and no more of these high power level missions that excede mine by a **** load. The loot pool is just as boring as it usually is for me in D2 because, quite simply, and factually so this can't be debated by fanboys and girls alike, the pool is just older weapons and the 30 new weapons. Almost 3/4 of your guns and armor have been removed and it was not a good idea. You've been able to pull this off in the past because there were so many weapons and it wasn't a permanent and consistent plan to remove people's guns that they spend time grinding for. The lack of planets is very hard to avoid noticing. This content may not have been your greatest, but it was ours. WE **** PAID FOR IT. We never payed for it to be removed and replaced with quite simply, not enough content. You should not remove 4 planets from the game and replace it with 2 reskinned ones from D1 and 1 new planet. There isn't enough content there to replace that which we lost. Same with the raids. Please Bungie, bring back all of the planets, raids, strikes, weapons, armor, and quests. I still love you guys and this game as it was apart of my childhood and is apart of me now. 6.5/10. Here are all the points listed in terms of how I came up with this score.
1- The soundtrack is **** incredible as always.
2- Europa and it's weather is also **** incredible. I loved experiencing it the first time around.
3- The campaign was very close to the lore and I felt hardly any disconnects.
4- The stasis abilities are amazing and I can't wait to get the new aspects and fragments for it to make them even more fleshed out.
5- The Salvation's Grip and its associated exotic quest were such a blast to go through and the weapon is so much fun to use.
6- A bonus point to hopefully encourage Bungie to get rid of sunsetting, and make Witch Queen and Lightfall the best expansions that Destiny fans and devs alike have ever seen.
.5- This would be 7 points if it weren't for the fact that they removed over $40 of content and replaced it with what is $20 and sold it as $40. Also, the season pass and microtransactions that are half-assed and don't even look good until an event comes around.

Destiny 2 for PC was at first a very unique and interesting approach to the looter shooter genre. Over the last few years, the game has had a few major bumps in the road, and ever since Beyond Lights announcement, we the player base were assured by Bungie that these issues would be addressed in what would be a significant overhaul of the core game and its gameplay mechanics. Sadly that wasDestiny 2 for PC was at first a very unique and interesting approach to the looter shooter genre. Over the last few years, the game has had a few major bumps in the road, and ever since Beyond Lights announcement, we the player base were assured by Bungie that these issues would be addressed in what would be a significant overhaul of the core game and its gameplay mechanics. Sadly that was nothing short of a flat-out lie, seeing how none of the major issues plaguing the community for the last two years been fixed but somehow in some cases made worse.

Destiny 2 Beyond Light has a very engaging and interesting story taking place on the mysterious ice moon of Europa. Over the course of the story, the player is introduced to familiar and returning characters, new powers, and the dark secrets left behind by the golden age legend of Cloves Bray. If I were to simply judge the story and its post-campaign content I would give it an 8/10. Although interesting and a very welcome improvement, I found the overall campaign way too short and a few of the main missions a bit repetitive. However, the main campaign is only a small fraction of what Destiny has now become.

Once the player completes the story and post-campaign missions, that's it. Literally, that's it, there is no content nor worth wild activity to do after completing the main storyline. This is an area that Bungie has become known for and at this time gives no signs of improving. This is due to one of the biggest changes to D2, the removal or vaulting of destinations such as Mars, IO, and Titian. This has led to one of the oddest things to come out of the Beyond Light expansion other than the removal of destinations, was the removal of strikes and other PvE activities such as raids and dungeons. Strikes at one point had some of the best loot an average player could get outside of raids and dungeons whiles earning ep, materials, and other loot related objects. But this was quickly changed as exclusive loot from these strikes became near impossible to get, and by the time anyone received this loot, it was already phased out. Now although there are a few strikes remaining in the game, none of them have loot worth a dam, and the new strikes that were said to come out with the launch of Beyond light or to be added during season 13 (the current season) such as Will of Crota, The Devil's Lair, or Fallen S.A.B.E.R have yet to drop.

As for dungeon’s and raids, truth be told I was never a fan of these activities seeing how a raid or dungeon could take upwards of five hours for the hope of getting an exclusive weapon or armor piece. However, that being said credit where credit is due. Both the Prophecy dungeon and the Deep Stone Crypt raid are very well done providing both story and challenge with decanting rewards both throughout the activities and the end. The only issue I have is that the Deep Stone Crypt raid can be a bit intimidating to first-time raid players and I find that the puzzle system is way too complex for that reason.

Overall Destiny 2 Beyond light is an okay expansion on its own, it is a massive improvement over Shadowkeep but in the end, I have to grade the game as a whole and seeing how Bungie has not fixed any of the games major issues such as the current train wreck that classes balancing, the current PvP meta that still focuses more on time to kill and overpowered ability builds rather than skill or game proficiency, the unacceptable poor execution of sunsetting, the clear lack of playtesting or any game testing before release, and the number of cheaters/hackers still present in PvP modes after the expansion makes giving the current state of Destiny 2 anything more than a 4/10 very difficult.

If Bungie wishes to truly fix the current state of Destiny 2, the only recommendation this reviewer can give is a complete overhaul of games PvP mechanics in order to build a proper meta and class balancing system rather than encouraging the player base to play this broken aspect of the game, a clear dived between PC and console versions of the game rather than adapting the console version to “work” on PC, a true sunsetting system in order to phase out overused and broken weapon archetypes, and to add proper seasons and in-game events rather than fetch quest events like activities such as The Dawning and boring gird seasons such the current Season 13 Season of the Hunt.

You are paying more to get less.

'The slow but steady removal of contents' is now the grand trend of Destiny 2. I cannot quite comprehend the reason why; to add little or no new contents is one thing, nevertheless to delete already existing contents is something a rational mind cannot possibly understand. Yes of course, Bungie, the developers, came up with all the fancy excuses.

Yes of course, Bungie, the developers, came up with all the fancy excuses. Unfortunately, I doubt those hallow words truly convinced anyone. They were pathetic.

Don't get me wrong. I like this game. I played a lot, and still playing to some extent. However with every patch, with every new season and expansion, Bungie somehow managed to make it worse every time. It showed their utter lack of understanding of the game. I genuinely wonder if the developers have actually ever played their game. Don't even get me started on the bloody 'Sunsetting'.

The recent outrage has been sparked by Bungie's preposterous greed. I personally don't mind micro-transactions on items which do not affect the actual game play, such as aesthetic related items. However it does become an obvious problem if micro-transaction is the only 'contents' the developers are dedicated for. Minimal new contents. Re-used contents. Deleted contents. Glitches and bugs left out for eternity. Yet, more and more new items added on the micro-transaction section.

Destiny 2 is slowly dying. It is still possible to revive it, however based on what we have observed so far, I would say to have any degree of hope is simply too much of an optimism.

The 'Activision era' was far better, superior. This pretty much sums up the current state of the game.

The complete lack of content in such a beautiful landscape as it is Europa can only be described as regretful, but the most current concern would be mainly focused on the complete lack of loot for an Destiny Year Expansion, the removal of 4 planets or locations and every activity and map related to them (already PAID content btw), and a undying habit of "tell no show" for the main storyThe complete lack of content in such a beautiful landscape as it is Europa can only be described as regretful, but the most current concern would be mainly focused on the complete lack of loot for an Destiny Year Expansion, the removal of 4 planets or locations and every activity and map related to them (already PAID content btw), and a undying habit of "tell no show" for the main story arc of the expansion only leaves the music, artwork, the secondary story arc and Stasis as the worthwhile components of Beyond Light. Combining this with having more content being released ONLY for the season pass owner's (and therefore having to pay more in order to get what have usually been there without any further charges) only raises the question of "can there be any real improvement from the Activision days with what we have seen so far?" As an additional note, the continuance of the devs to leave the most powerful loot of the entire game with no matchmaking is still, for me one of the main reasons why the game can't thrive any further, as there is a considerable amount of players (just like me) that can't just put together a squad of six or three to do the activities. To encourage matchmaking for all activities could make a positive change for the better. Expand

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is worth the investment for existing fans of the genre and franchise. Otherwise, the best way to experience this expansion is through Game Pass on Xbox or PC.

Beyond Light is approaching the quality of both Forsaken and The Taken King.

Beyond Light is the first note in a dirge for Destiny 2, and major steps need to be taken by Bungie to fix the issues caused by sunsetting and content vaulting. But regardless of what Bungie’s next steps are at this point, it’s difficult to feel excitement for any future expansions given the direction Destiny 2 is headed in.
