I thought this game would be awful. Let's get the bad out of the way. It's not Dead Space and it isn't scary. It's not Dead Space and it isn't scary. While the gameplay itself works fine for a port (no wonky mouse issues, or poor performance), the menu is literally broken. I have no mouse cursor on the menu overlay. Sometimes there is a phantom mouse and I can still select things blindly, but sometimes there is no mouse interaction at all. Utilizing the arrow keys doesn't work either. For some reason, when this happens, you can hammer Enter repeatedly and eventually get a response from the game. Very strange. Other people have mentioned this, as well as being bounced to desktop while game is running. I think both are the same issue and have to do with the game losing focus in the menu screens.

Technical issues aside, the lack of the scares you WANT from a Dead Space title, the story is also very stupid. Toss in micro-pay and Origin and now you have all the elements necessary to create an incredibly steaming pile of $%^&.

Now, I won't deny that it is the sum of all those terrible things...but damn if it doesn't still manage to be fun. Game has a lot of atmosphere, they have really nailed that over the shoulder perspective, and the combat is streamlined and perfected. Game looks incredible. I don't blame the developer for not supporting DX11...as it doesn't really bring that much to the table anyway.

I think what I would recommend to most people, is to wait 6-9 months until it drops to 19.99 or 29.99. If you want another Dead Space, but thought Dead Space 2 jumped the shark: Don't get this game. If you are looking to drop your dime on a horror title, this isn't the one.

I know I am making this game sound really bad...and it genuinely is...but I'm just trying to be honest. And if I have to be honest, it still manages to be a really fun ride. Maybe this game has some sort of subliminal messaging going on. Is that what's up with the menu screen? Jokes aside, like a glossy sub-B movie that is entirely aware that it's a C or a D but pulls out all the stops in the presentation and the presentation is pretty exceptional.

I'll just say, that at this precise moment it really deserves the 7 it's getting. Hell, it can probably go higher after a few patches. Time will tell. In short, the graphics are more than satisfactory, the writing and voice acting is excellent and immersive, the story CAN get a little cliche and vague at times, but it seems as a logical evolution of previous installments. In short, the graphics are more than satisfactory, the writing and voice acting is excellent and immersive, the story CAN get a little cliche and vague at times, but it seems as a logical evolution of previous installments. Now one thing that everyone is mentioning is the dynamic of the gameplay. It's a tad more faster paced than the DS1 2, the enemies are more aggressive and faster, while the ammo is scarce at best (though that could be a matter of Difficulty). The overall atmosphere feels the same, the gritty, bloodstained corridors, the unidentifiable noises and the ever-familiar vent-scares are there, though how well they actually work with the more aggressive gameplay, that is up to each individual gamer's taste. If i had one thing to complain about, it would be the feeling of playing an unfinished product. There are some bits here and there, that feel very unpolished and even laughable, which, for me, ruins the whole experience. In summation: It's not the shiniest addition to a franchise, but it's a very good game in its own right. Expand

But back to what this game was supposed to be, it was supposed to be a sci-fi survivor horror game, the horror is largely missing due to predictability. If you have played Dead Space 1 and/or 2 you pretty much know when it is going to get busy, there are a few moments but they are far and few between. There is more of "aaaugh not this again..." rather than the "f%&k this s/&t AAAAAAGR" followed by what you think is a minor heart attact you so enjoyed from DS 1 2.

The survival element is somewhat gone too, in D 1 2 resource managment was key (on normal and up difficulty) you cringed every time you had to spend a medkit, or when your inventory was already full and you had to drop something, often running back to the suit station to deposit something in the safe. But now, resources are still somewhat scarce, (playthrough on hard difficulty) but you have in-game purchases (refered to as mirco-transactions by some) and you can actually by resources to make medkits and ammo for real money ?!?.

Now I know in-game purchases is a thing that will stay, and I would have no issue if you could only buy, let say guns and suits, or even gun parts and suits. But part of the survival aspect I so loved was that..."yikes I only have 5 shots left with my line gun" feeling. No you do not have to use in-game purchases, but the fact that you know that it is there removed some of that hoooly crap feeling.

Positive things: 1) Gone is specialized ammunition, there is only one ammo type for all guns.
    2) Weapons crafting is a good thing, only carry two weapons.. but they can have 2 guns in one
(my favorite was linegun with a shutgun under it)

    Negative:

    1) Suits are now merely cosmetic, no modifiers or increased inventory space. (All upgrades are now contained in the RIG, but inventory is not one of them)
    2) Somewhat predictable storyline, not always, but yeah.
    3) Enemies are the same, no new editions 'cept for you know, bosses.
    4) Keymapping and "minigames" (hacking doors and such) are clealy designed for consoles. But it is not that bad, just a pet peeve of mine.

There's nothing wrong with this game, it is still as good and as scary as its predecessors. It is much more of an action, shooting gallery than Dead Space 2, however that didn't spoil the game for me at all.

That being said, the game does have its flaws. The voice acting is a bit of a mixed bag, as is the story in general. It isn't bad, really, it just isn't as good as you want it to be. There are also pretty much the exact same enemies so far that have been in the series from the start. This was disappointing, but not too terrible as the enemies are on the whole well done despite their familiarity. None of my complaints about the game in any way diminishes what is an otherwise excellent entry ino the series. The game itself runs excellently, with the engine smooth and stable. There aren't even any clipping errors to be found. Very well polished in that regard. As a final note, the DLC is in NO WAY pushed on you. It isn't needed to progress through the game at all, nor do I feel like I am missing out on anything by not buying it. No worries there.

If you're a Dead Space fan, buy the game. If you're a fan of 3rd person shooters, this is a no-brainer. I wouldn't recommend it to those who aren't fans of the series and genre, though, as DS3 won't make any converts out of non-believers.

Let me start by saying THE ONLY shortcoming DS3 or DS2 have had to DS1 was less focus on elaborate and sadistic/sick dead sequences. Usually your head just gets ripped off, body decapitated, maybe a necromorph throws up in your face, but you won't see them pick you up and dismember you piece-by-piece then crawl into your empty neck socket and lumber your corpse around the room. Usually your head just gets ripped off, body decapitated, maybe a necromorph throws up in your face, but you won't see them pick you up and dismember you piece-by-piece then crawl into your empty neck socket and lumber your corpse around the room. I loved that about DS1 but I find that stuff more funny in a twisted way than scary.
-I don't understand people saying that DS3 is any different than DS1 or 2. It's not really anymore of an action game than it adding more elaborate action sequences here and there, which by no means are placed in a way that constantly interrupts the gameplay. DS1 was scary for about the first couple hours until killing monsters became a natural and simple process, there were no more scares to be had. If your idea of scary is a Disney park ride where arbitrary props pop out of the walls to scare you, then you need to go ride those some more and put down your controller. The only thing that makes any of these games "scary" is the slight adrenaline rush received by having to kill swarms of weird moving monsters before you get surrounded and mutilated. I'm sorry but after 3 installments of the game, even if DS1 had anything resembling scary it would have worn off by now for returning players, which is precisely why DS3 does not try to scare and instead throws more monsters at you. -Yes ammo management is less of a pain. If you like scrounging for ammo, they have a game mode for this. Yes there are many powerful weapons which can make it easier. If you like just simple weapons, there is also a game mode included for this. If you played the game on anything other than impossible, you should also put down your controller, none of the DS installments were incredibly difficult even on the hardest setting, especially with a mouse/pad instead of a analog stick at your disposal. -For me Dead Space was about the shooting aspect which DS3 delivers more so than any of the previous ones. It's really just a logical step forward from DS2 same as DS2 was to the original. They took the existing concepts and added on top of them. More items, more weapons, more monsters (but many of the same ones as well), a bit more story and a bit more action sequences. And that's not to say the action sequences felt alien to the rest of the gameplay, they felt very fluid and tied very well into the rest. DS3 still captures the remoteness of space, the feeling of claustrophobia, the sterile and industrial approach to space stations that DS1 and 2 had.
-DS3 allows you to backtrack more which is an attempt to make the game feel less linear, which it accomplishes as well as one could expect for a game that does not try to be a RPG. It also accomplishes making the various space stations and locations you visit seem real, and the scenarios Isaac encounters also more realistic. You can space jump and explore the outside of the space station, for example. -DS3 still offers the hallway crawling and zero-G experiences DS1 and 2 had. You still chop limbs off of the enemies, you still prioritize targets and you still have to watch your back. It's not incredibly difficult but it's enough to avoid being over tedious, while still offering enough of a challenge to keep you interested. YMMV if you play on any mode other than impossible. I suspect many of the reviewers here giving DS3 negative reviews did not play it on impossible.
-DS3 DOES NOT COMPARE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM TO THE DEBAUCLE OF THE LATEST RESIDENT EVIL. Anyone attempting to argue this in their review should offer you an immediate clue to skip their review; they are stupid and their reviews are stupid. The differences between DS3 and previous installments also are not analogous to the differences between RE6 and 5. In fact it's almost the opposite of what everyone is complaining about.
-Bottom line: Dead Space cannot continue to be "scary" to returning veterans, it's a futile and impossible venture. Once you get used to the monsters popping out in front of you, it stops being scary. Once you get used to slaying necromorphs and playing with their dead bodies, they are no longer scary. DS3 attempts to keep you glued to the seat via fast paced shooting, fast paced action, rolling gameplay that does not feel choppy or inconsistent. -If you enjoyed becoming better and faster at dispatching necromorphs, watching badguys meet their untimely end, and getting revenge on unitologists, then DS3 is the game for you. If you like cheap thrills which get boring after an hour of playing, I would tell you to go play DS1 but honestly even DS1 was never that either. Some people here complaining about DS3 should go back and play DS1 again and see that it's no longer scary. This is as much a Dead Space as the first or second. Do not be fooled.

Everything else is top notch the graphics are up to par with Dead Space 2 (and this game is a straight console port so not much can be expected in the graphics department).
The atmosphere is quite less horrifying for Dead Space 3, but I would assume that's because the previous dead space games were still a 'shock' for Isaac Clarke. The atmosphere could have been better, but it's not game-breaking.
The gameplay itself is even better than before the crafting system is really fun and gives hours upon hours of experimenting and limb-cutting action. Dead Space 3 does a fantastic job continuing the journey of Isaac Clark to a climactic (if not entirely unbelievable) finish. I was definitely challenged, but not frustratingly so, which is more than I canDead Space 3 does a fantastic job continuing the journey of Isaac Clark to a climactic (if not entirely unbelievable) finish. There's a lot of hate towards this game right now, and I have no idea why. I played through the first two Dead Space games on the hard difficulty, and decided to do the same with DS3. I was definitely challenged, but not frustratingly so, which is more than I can say for Dead Space 2. In fact, I think DS3 is actually better at balancing challenge and fun, as DS2 was focused more on overwhelming the player with enemies, where in DS3 the enemies are still in great numbers, but not as much as the first two games.

The complaints about boring, repetitive side missions in DS3 are completely unwarranted. Each mission offers great nuggets of the DS story, and all of them feature custom VO work, unique combat situations, and in some cases other little gems. They aren't any more repetitive than all Dead Space games are repetitive; yes, you're going to be shooting necromorphs while traversing corridors... that's what every one of these games has been about, and Dead Space 3 doesn't change that.

If you came to Dead Space 3 expecting a different game, you came with bad expectations; Dead Space 3 is just as much Dead Space as the first two games. There are some great jump scares, fantastic zero-G areas to explore, some messed-up new enemies, and more Unitologists screwing everything up. However, Visceral has really streamlined the ammo and upgrade systems in this game, and thrown in something more complex, but also more fun.

The ability to gather resources to craft different weapon combos is awesome. There are in-game purchases available to boost your resources, but these are completely unneeded as the game throws plenty of resources your way. In fact, I was able to buy two of the DLC resource packs (the normal pack and the "elite" pack) using currency that I found in game before I finished it! Being able to create your own weapons truly allows you to play the game as you see fit, whether it's up close and personal or as far away as possible.

I should mention that all of my experience was from playing the game solo, which works almost perfectly in DS3. There are a couple awkward moments that were obviously intended for co-op, where your partner is next to you one second, then suddenly somewhere else, but those are few and far between. In addition to it's side missions, DS3 also offers co-op only missions, so there is no shortage of content whether you want to play alone or with a friend.

In summary, DS3 is everything that was great about the first two games, with a bit more action and a focus on customization. It's still scary, it's still brutal, and it kicks the action up to a whole new level with it's crazy ending. I can't wait to play it with a friend.

Crafting and suit upgrades are much improved, having to get all the different parts to gain access to the better upgrades and weapons gives an incentive to search the environment and do the side missions. The story is good too, yet different in the way it's very group based, kind of like how Alien is set out. However, you can see most of the plot events coming from a mile off in a clichéd way, and the main villain isn't really that scary and let's Isaac get away most of the time. Co-op is incredibly well implemented too, and doesn't interfere if you want a single player experience. There's also a lot of backtracking through samey environments, and apart from one or two side missions, the rest are just simple loot hunts where you only gain from it if you invest in making a weapon. The enemies are exactly the same from Dead Space 2, except re-skinned and ever so slight changes in behaviour. If you're looking through the real, claustrophobic thrill then Dead Space 3 lacks that slightly compared to 1 2, due to the fact there aren't many claustrophobic settings and psychological twists. I'm not taking the microtransactions into account because they are completely optional purchases and don't affect the epic gameplay whatsoever. Expand

I absolutely loved the first two Dead Space games. They are practically my religion. I've played DS1 13 times and DS2 9 times. DS3 is everything it should have been. I loved the weapon crafting, although I found myself longing to just recreate the classic weapons, which I did The co-op was not forced, and the levels were less linear and the monster design was fantastic, even if limited to only a few new additions to the necro library. The dessicated versions of slashers and leapers were very creepy and OMG the Feeders. Anyone who was not genuinely creeped out by Feeders wasn't playing the same game I was. I'm a hardened DS veteran and those guys gave me the heebeejeebees. ---For those who complain that the game wasn't survival enough for you, or was too much this or that, Visceral/EA included "Pure Survival" and "Classic" modes where you can play by your own playstyle. The only problem with their implementation of these is that they are NG+ modes, and they should have been available as difficulties from the start. At least pure survival, since that's the most oft-read complaint about the newer DS games. "Too actiony!" they say. You can't be afraid of something you understand. Xenomorphs weren't scary after the first Alien film, so James Cameron gave us Aliens. DS2 was the Aliens to DS1's Alien, and now we have a departure and reimagining of many aspects of the game in DS3's "The Thing" (a la John Carpenter). They nailed it. My only gripes are with the autosave feature (I lost progress due to a poorly timed crash a couple times) and that the last couple chapters leading up to the end were a bit drawn out. The game might have been a bit punchier with 17 chapters instead of 19, but I'm not complaining. The final areas are visually stunning and anyone who thinks Visceral and EA were making "an easy cash grab" obviously don't understand the work that goes into making those amazing set pieces. I've met the devs and they poured their soul into this game, and it shows. 10/10 exceeded expectations. Would recommend and will play again. Expand

What it is: very similar to DS2, but with a few more enemy types, coop, side missions crafting, a roll move that doesn't dramatically change the game and a longer play time. The downside is that after 3 games it is hard to create novel situations from where necromorphs come from. I recommend veteran dead space players start on Hard difficulty, as normal and easy are far too easy. Expand

There's life in Dead Space yet!
The third installment had its highs and its lows, though in my opinion more of the former. Admittedly the game is more action orientated, especially in co-op, with flash mobs of necromorphs coming in waves at you needing less "strategic dismemberment" and more balls-to-the-walls rapid fire and explosions.

They added a roll feature to try to make it like gears of war so you can dodge the groups of necromorphs sprinting at you, there's country music playing, the entire time I was like wtf. Weapon crafting is so much worse and the menu purposely is not visible so you have to spend more hours on the game. All the original weapons now suck even with upgrades and there's soooo many medkits so looting has become a complete bore.

The first Dead Space was good, the second they improved on it and it was critically acclaimed. I don't know what posseses them to change the gameplay. Some games shouldn't be changed, like you don't change Super Mario. Dead Space could've been one of the greater trilogys ever but EA screwed up they'll never get those fans back. Those are my only pieces of constructive criticism, other than make an open world dead space game The movement controls are slightly refined from dead space 2, the new weapon crafting system makes Isaac seem more like an engineer, crafting also ads the possibility for a huge amount of different weapons, being able to roam around the complex down on the planet and go between ships in space makes a nice addition to the dead space world. You can have a weapon add on that automatically picks up ammo. Would be nice to have that for the other items also. I love the story. It does go with the dead space world, so at times it's a bit predictable, but it kept me interested enough that the first day I got it I played 15 hours straight. Over all, they continued to achieve what makes dead space great as a solo horror game, and they co-op is outstanding! Resident evil takes the credit for starting the co-op in horror games, but how Visceral uses it, and doesn't makes the co-op like playing a different dead space game. However stacked against what this game has going for it and other games out there right now a user score of 5.7 out of 10 is ridiculous.

The crafting system is amazing and addictive, it's so much fun experimenting. You know that when you're making a new weapon or tweaking it a few times an hour they did it right. I was skeptical about them adding soldiers to fight with but I really gotta say it's an welcome change of pace. How many hours of necromorphs can we fight without expecting EA to add a different dimension of enemy, I gotta say the soldiers are a welcome addition. EA has fixed some of the frustrating issues plaguing the previous games like making the zero-g space areas easier to navigate and placing more oxygen tanks around just in case. Also universal ammo is a good thing, it would be impossible for the crafting system to work without it.

In closing DS3 is at its core still DS, its lost that atmosphere but lets face it DS1 and DS2 really set the bar at the ceiling. EA has tried its best to add some new vigor into the series while fixing some haunting issues of the predecessors, overall this is still dead space it's not some game we've seen a million iterations of which mean its keeps a special place in my heart as a true DS fan!

There are a lot of people who just heard what another people talked about this game and they just took their conclusions without any chances.

I think the DEMO didn't make any justice on this one.

    I loved.

There are lots of homages to THE THING (the movie with Kurt Russell) I just love it.

Very immersive and graphics on PC VERSION are something like NEXT GEN. If you turn off your V SYNC ON in game and turn it on NVIDIA or ATI control panel you will see how good is that. FRAME RATE is everything. The story is passable, but it doesn't interfere at all on your immersion.

I just loved the variety of stuff that you can do, and the craft weapons are pretty good though.

The best thing is to play this SOLO. CO OP seems to be pretty easy and takes off every exile sensation that we had on DS1 and DS2.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the Dead Space franchise. The first game was something special. I enjoy films like Aliens, Event Horizon, The Thing etc. It was nice to see a developer be so inspired by those films and atmospheres. The second one took it a step further and was brilliant. The first game had horror. The second game had terror. The third game? Well lets just say its action. I understand how a developer can't do more of the same but why the hell can't they at least PUSH the envelope and make the action meld with more horror? A good example is the Awakened DLC. Now the enemies in that game were horror! throw those in 3 with the bloody necromorphs from the first two games and I really wouldn't have had any problem. The problem though is adding the crouching, shooting gallery mechanics and bum rushing enemies that block corridors. It really broke the game for me. Not to mention lack of exploration this time round. Sure we go through many environments but its mostly backtracking. I liked the space parts the most but the rest of it was pretty lacking. I was also annoyed *SPOILER* that you don't get to go to the moon..instead you fight the moon. Really? now whole moons are bosses? that was the stupidest part of the whole game. What is this Mass Effect 3? Death Star? The boss just looked laughable though I liked the chaotic environment. Story was weak this time round..instead of Isaac worrying about his missing girlfriend we got Carver who has to be the worst companion character right next to Aliens: Colonial Marines companion. Guy has tourettes. I didn't even bother with the co-op. Finally the last gripe was the weapon crafting system. I utterly hated this. I miss the old weapons. Should have kept those and just allowed upgrades instead of crafting new weapons. Don't see the point? other then giving us some hard work to do. Breaks up the pacing and obviously was put in to keep the player from noticing the short levels. On the plus side some of the enemy designs were great (The DLC Awakened being the best), graphics are always top notch, sound design was good (though I noticed on headphones it veers towards the left side...a bug?) ----------If your a fan of the series I recommend it and the DLC Awakened is brilliant up until the silly ending. I don't really know where else they can take it. I am so tired of those monsters attack the Earth plot lines.. 7/10 Expand

I think this is probably the best Dead Space game in the series. I liked the story line, the graphics, and the challenging aspects of the game. Yet, I can understand the negative reviews, because I have had similar problems with all of the Dead Space games: e.g, you can't walk fast or jump, the weapons are especially wimpy, the lags in the action, etc. Still, I recommend this game highly.

Now the only thing that kept me playing this game was the weapon crafting system. I can only say it's probably the best weapon crafting mechanism I've ever experienced. It was truly genius. It gets even better if you're crafting with your co-op buddy, since you can exchange awesome weapon ideas. Honestly, I probably spent a good 20% or more of the time at the crafting bench, just fiddling around trying to make the most badazz weapon. If I were to be truly honest, this game should have been called "weapon crafters" because that's how much I enjoyed the weapon crafting.

I gotta admit the weapon crafting system has a bit of a learning curve, and it was overwhelming to learn at first so me and my partner just completely ignored it for like half a chapter of the game.

Bottom line, I would recommend this game only if you've got a co-op buddy. Story is also more complete that way. Single player seems like something is missing.

It is mostly a fps in a horror setting, though the story was quite interesting aswell: it makes the flow of the game make sense and gives you purpose, namely to save earth, yourself and your friends.

Graphics and audio are solid in my opinion. Gameplay is easy to understand. The only thing that I didn't get right away was making weapons yourself, but you'll figure that out soon enough.
Weapon making is a fun bonus, that gives you plenty of ways to kill the enemy.

I played every sidemission except 1 or 2, and the game took me 21 hours to finish, not counting reloads of course.

The only thing that bugged me a little was the save system: it uses checkpoints, though it also saves when you quit the game. Problem is that though it saves the game upon quitting, it only seems to save your inventory, location wise I seemed to be set back a bit. This isn't a major problem, and didn't spoil the gaming experience.

A nice touch is the locator device that shows which way to go, makes it a hell of a lot less frustrating.

So all in all this game is about an 7,5 to an 8

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game certainly isn't as good as the first two, but definitely not the 5/10 everyone seems to think. I thought it was a 7.5 but I'm rounding up to an 8 for this review. The gameplay is definitely Dead Space. I went into this game unsure of how it would play due to the crouch/roll/sprint additions. However you still slow down aiming in, reloading is the same, guns feel the same, etc. Crouch and roll are kind of redundant; I really never found myself crouching, and I did use roll but not all that often. The weapon crafting system is easily the best part of the game with enough combinations to keep you occupied through multiple playthroughs (if you so desire). Even though the gameplay and crafting are good, the game has obvious flaws. The characters are EXTREMELY generic and the story is predictable. I anticipated Ellie's new boyfriend dying the second he was introduced. Also, if you aren't doing co-op, you barely ever see Carver. Some of the heart-to-heart conversations Isaac and Carver have are a 10 out of 10 on the cheese factor, with the cherry on top being cheesy background music. The game doesn't explore Carver's character beyond face value which is a huge fault of the writers. I played most of the game on co-op except for the last level. My friend and I played on hard and it was really easy; only died a handful of times. But after I started playing solo, I noticed how much more difficult it was. Dead Space is known for gradually increasing the difficulty of the game as you progress further and further, and assuming you are playing solo this one is no exception. However if you're doing co-op, it's honestly a cakewalk... The story was okay, but also disappointing. This was supposed to be the game that explained everything. It did, but just in a very disappointing way. I found myself saying "really, a network of moons?" as if that was the best they could come up with. The first two games built up to this one and it really didn't deliver in that regard. But to be fair, most games/movies/whatever that fall into the same pattern of relying on an iteration to explain, all at once, a lot of mystery that was introduced previously do tend to be disappointing. So despite all these cons, why am I still giving this game such a high score? Because I can overlook its faults and recognize what it does right. The gameplay is solid which is an important aspect. I cannot say enough good things about the ingenuity of the crafting system. It gets harder and harder just like the first two. This game clearly is not a survival horror game and should not be treated as such; it is an action game with horror/suspense elements. The other two were the reverse, and I think that angered a lot of players. So when you analyze it on its own terms for what it is, the game REALLY isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Expand

I find it rather believable that the protagonist in this installment has more soldier class than engineer class given his fighting experiences in the two previous games. I would call him a veteran.

I like the additional PC settings. One of the best looking Dead Space games to date. I like the resource gathering. It's a neat addition (won't spoil past this). My only complaint is the lack of ammo variety.

I give this game full score.

Outstanding game. Personally, I started with Dead Space 2 and thought it was good, but had no urge to replay it. I then backtracked to Dead Space 1 and found it too old and clunky. And if you judge the game on it's own merits, maybe you'll be like me with over a hundred hours replaying this on the harder game modes that open up after you finish your first run. The voice acting was superb, the story was engrossing and even the text logs captured my attention. The cut scenes don't bog the game down. The quick time events are fun. And the game can be mastered. Right now I'm working on the hardcore mode where if you die, you have to start over... from the beginning. While some complain the monsters are too tough, the fact is I can get almost to the snow suit without even dying once. You just gotta stop shooting mindlessly, keep your cool and take careful aim at the limbs. Use your stasis liberally and you will see how this game teaches you to become an excellent shot. Pay attention to your scavenger bot radar too and put them down in the prime spots and your weapon upgrades you build with the resources will make you king of the hill. I personally liked the scavenging part a lot. It's a big part of the game and if you like that kind of thing, you will rake in the resources and find you can get some seriously powerful weapons. If you try to stick to the main path and avoid the looking around, the monsters will overcome you because you're using weak weapons. Obviously by my score, you can guess I like this game, but this is honestly the best shooter I've played. Ever. Expand

Never played DS1 or DS2. However, I read the plots and watched the movies before going into Dead Space 3. I'm one of those random few (apparently) that actually enjoy games like RE5, LP2 and BL2. In short, I'm a coop whore. If you're not, good for you and this review is not for you. I've already completed the game with a friend and I will say that as a coop game, DS3 is a good game. In short, I'm a coop whore. If you're not, good for you and this review is not for you. I've already completed the game with a friend and I will say that as a coop game, DS3 is a good game. The visuals are pretty intense and I don't even want to know what the texture budget was. There are some minor plot holes and some surprises, but I couldn't help feeling that some of the plot seemed ripped out of the Mass Effect or Halo series. Its got all the hallmarks of a "massive race intent on harvesting all life and wiping the galaxy clean". Its passable for a single game but it leaves one to wonder how it will damage the series as a whole. As for gameplay, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Coop partner and I would cover each other through many events. The coop missions, which have one player hallucinating and seeing out-of-place objects, was a very nice touch. "Dude, do you see the presents and birthday cake!?" "Um... no... I see a crate... with blood on it. Its like every other crate we've seen" "So you don't also see the big banner that says 'happy birthday'?" "Nope." It is a conversation I will not soon forget. As far as the bench system is concerned, it is a nice touch but I found myself wanting more suit upgrades. The weapons are very customizable but the suits upgrade are pretty basic. For anyone wondering, the suits themselves are cosmetic only and have no effect on the game. Suit upgrades transfer between suits automatically. The one downside of the bench system is that in coop games, one partner may find themselves waiting on the other. A more user friendly interface for the bench (showing all upgrade menus, etc.) at once would've streamlined the process.

I will admit that the space interior and exterior environments in the first half of the chapters were the best in the game. Aside from the fact that half of the crew must have spent most of their lives in the many elevators (loading screens) in the game, it all felt connected and that you were actually in a game world. The planet side chapters often felt disconnected even though there was no clear cut-off or drop-in moment aside from when you arrive. I could have done without the rappel mountain sequences. If they would have made the entire game take place in space, I wouldn't have minded.

As far as difficulty (on normal), in coop it didn't seem insurmountable except for one long occasion in the second to last chapter when waves of enemies pour in. However, that same room/environment is reused three times in that chapter so the attack doesn't come as a surprise. The last chapters reuse a lot of the environment and feels a little rushed.

For the record, I was also not a fan of the last boss. It seemed nearly identical to the last boss in Mass Effect 2. Big boss, weak points, and done. I don't want to penalize the entire game though for one weak boss considering I was pleased with a majority of the game.

For this PC version, I will say I'm not a fan of Origin but it isn't very bothersome in this game and I've learned to loathe it less. EA has made some good strides in recent years, but they seem to be spending too much on games and betting too much at the Craps table. That argument applies to Dead Space 3 as well. The game has incredibly high productions values, but it makes you wonder where they could have walled the garden a bit more and spent less. Betting that your game will sell more than five million copies to turn a profit is a tough sell. I hope they will continue with their plans for a Dead Space 4 (albeit reign it in) and retain coop but only time will tell.

I am looking forward to working my way through pure survival mode next in coop.

This time EA did it right. Dead Space 3 is better than the previous one. And it should be rated higher not lower because of a reasonable difficulty. You can always feel free to play it hard if you like the challenge. The gameplay in Dead Space 3 is greatly improved. In overall Dead Space 3 is a mighty action horror adventure video game.

You can customize your weapons in all possible ways and there is more action. To get the most of the game I recommend playing in 3D. Although 3D Vision rates this game poor in terms of 3D compatibility, you can enjoy almost perfect 3D effects with Helix tweak. Games like this are "born" to be played in 3D. Space walks look amazing in 3 dimensions a really immersing experience. I finished the game yesterday and it left me satisfied, especially the ending. Well done EA. I'm looking forward to the DLC. Dead Space is one of my favorite franchises. I've enjoyed all three games. They have their differences and play styles, but overall it was a great experience. Coop and weapons crafting was a nice addition. Also, Dead Space 3 is one of the most visually stunning games I've ever seen. The micro transaction portion of the game is my only complaint, but other than that, it's a blast!

My issues with this game are small but not irrelevant. The game makes everything a slug fest and lots of bullet sponges in the game. That said the game is still Dead Space and makes a logical conclusion. The game is much more action oriented but that is not a bad thing. Playing this series back to back reveals a deep story that is well told. While I found 3 to be fun its not a total cake walk. The biggest issue for me is the lack of strategy, especially in the later parts of the game. While it is a fitting conclusion to the trilogy, one is left with the hope that Dead Space 4 will be more survival and horror and less survival.

All in all I would say that if you can accept the the story will progress logically with the desperation disappearing a little in each game it will make the story more understandable. To not follow the progression of the story will lead to disappointment. Personally I really liked the game but the game play itself was altered in a way that was not as much fun as the predecessors but was still fun.

Also the DLC, while short, is the real ending that should have been in this game. While there is a feeling of conclusion you have to wait until the 20 some minutes of credits roll to know that the ending is not the ending and leads to the Awakened DLC. The Awakened DLC should have been the ending in the game, not what was in the base game. In many ways the DLC redeems the game and sets, in a significant way, the setting for Dead Space 4.

The jump scares are no longer effective, the mood is disrupted by the redundancy of environments. The game depends on weapon crafting too much- if you're not 'good' at it, you will really suffer. I had a hard time with crafting and thus only used the plasma cutter for most of the game until I finally managed to craft a decent weapon. The difficulty of this game is also much more lax than in the previous games- ammo and health were plentiful, and I could just craft myself more if I wanted to.

What does the game do right? The storyline is decent and the characters are fine. The rapid changes in environments from the first few levels were fantastic, until you actually get to Tau Volantis. From that point on, it becomes a redundant trudge through the same environment over and over again. But, for those first few levels, you really hit some pulse-pounding scenes. Also, getting to finally dismember Unitologists? That's definitely a bonus- those guys have had it coming since the first game. It was a joy to finally give them what's for. The crafting system, mentioned earlier, is great when you can actually get it to work effectively (I stumbled across many, many weapon combinations that were plain useless). Finally, the end game- the last few levels turn into an altogether different game. At the end, I finally got powerful weapons crafted, powerful upgrades, and felt like deity that laid the smack down upon anyone stupid enough to mess with me. The difficulty plummeted at this point as I laid waste to everything. Was it fun? Yes. Was it Dead Space? No.

But, it does have some issues that seemed to take away from my complete (3 game) Dead Space experience. First, I have no problem with built in Cooperative play, as an option. I think it's a perfect feature but I do have an issue with it when it affects my solo-play's achievement record. Choosing to play solo and not being able to complete the game with an 100% achievement record is just as annoying as paying for a game that doesn't really work in the first place. (i.e. Star Wars: TFU2 for PC and it's cut-scene perma-crash halfway through the game that's never getting patched.) Having artifacts and collectibles locked away and inaccesible to a solo player who made the decision to play the 'single player version' of the game, from the onset, makes me want to write this public review instead of finding someone to group with. "...Just move the missing collectibles back into the solo game or de-list them from the overall game achievements. Consider solo and co-op 2 different and distinct games all together, simple."
Lastly, Ellie. What can I say. But, for one of the main reasons to push on through to the end and try to save the day, in Dead Space 2, with that rare but endearing Kyle Kataarn/Jan Ord (SW: Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast) relationship being hollowed out from the start of Dead Space 3. She immediately lost her "Peng" factor both in graphical display and story. I just couldn't bring myself to care if she made it out of any particular predicament, in the later chapters through to the end of the game, or not. Honestly, the entire cast didn't strike a single cord. "They were there, then they were gone. Ah well, shoot and scoot." All that being said, I still give Dead Space 3 a solid 8 out of 10 for my opening comments but wonder if a future Dead Space 4 can make things right for me or kill the franchise, in my eyes. (Customizable suits mix and match from available list, texture and color choice would be a nice addition for DS-4.)

It's just as scary as its previous installments, and is very exciting. Tons of necromorphs that launch themselves at you, wave after wave. The weapon crafting system is ingenious. Some of the most engaging boss battles ever.

People really, really need to quit crying about the "change of genre", away from horror. This is a fantastic game and deserves at *least* an 8.0 score. I can't wait until Dead Space 4.

I have scored the previous two Dead Space games a perfect 10 as they are, for me, the benchmark of true horror and action. No game has ever come close to scaring me, depressing me or entertaining me quite like Dead Space (I was hoping Aliens Colonial Marines was a contender).

So, in Dead Space 3, we got more action, more exploration, more weapon options (Oh how I love the weapon customisation) and more set pieces. The entire game plays out like a Hollywood summer blockbuster that has you glued from start to finish. I've heard some true fans say the horror is lacking and I will be honest, it is... but this is partly down to the planet environment 50% of the game is set on (no spoilers).

Well, apart from the horror that is lacking, this is still a Dead Space game. The franchise has had to evolve and the horror that I think was so sinister and gruesome in the second could not be differentiated anymore. It is that simple! So, the game had to freshen up others wise, we would be playing Dead Space 2.5. They knew the series in that respect had gone has far as the material would allow so the change in emphases from horror to action was the only alternative and it was a big risk that paid off.

Dead Space 3 requires attention. There are moments of pure silence where you stop and just stare as you float around the destroyed ships and spack stations. These moments are often visited after main missions have been completed and they break up the onslaught of killing enemies. They are needed and they are a great diversion as they offer weapon upgrades, parts, optional missions and even some missions where a coop friend can just jump in for a one off mission. I literally found myself saying "that's a good idea" on more than one occasion and I respect a developer that takes time to offer any kind of replay value with extra missions and looting (provided they don't feel tact on).

All in all, product value; Dead Space 3 took me around 18 hours to complete on medium difficulty. I died a handful of times, completed all optional objectives (the one near the end regarding the expedition dig was amazing and for the optional missions alone I would have paid a DLC fee), and went back for weapon upgrades in hidden and previously locked areas which was worth it. I paid £22.99 for this on release day as it was on sale and it was worth every penny. One day I may even revist this game....

    - Yes, if you were a fan of the previous Dead Spaces, you would most likely hate and dislike this new inclusion in the series.
    - It lacks horror, it has obvious jump scares and does almost nothing which would give you the same creepiness and it just doesn't have the same as previous Dead Spaces to say the least

    - It is very obvious that they either took or were forced by EA to take the safe side and choose the one which would give them the most profit which is an action shooter game (as if we didn't have enough of them), and in this genre I would say they did fine, they had weapon customization, engaging enemies, a couple pleasant boss fights.
    - They also did coop in my opinion awesomely. You weren't forced to restart a mission just because someone wanted to play with you, the drop in and drop out system at the checkpoints were very convenient.
    - This game is an action/shooter rather than the previous in the past horror/survival/shooter sort of genre
    - 7/10 because I have not played the previous and see this as an action shooter with horror elements and it seems like it did fine in the genre

BUT!! General gameplay was very, very sound, and as a Dead Space fan, looking for the issues.. I'm happy with the game's overall quality. Combat is still stressful with many necromorphs taking to running and/or being thrown at you in packs, rather then one by one, now trying to get in your face even more then they already were. The detail is also amazing.. but that doesn't make a game. Story wise... Well the DLC "Awakened" was much better I gotta say.. Main characters seem, distant throughout the story, their development rushed and their impending "crash" all too expected and hurried along. At least in Awakened we got the audio logs and notes from those as everyone started to kill each other and fall apart, see them cut themselves and go mad, FEEL the human element again, realize that people are being hurt by this.. Even the main characters became so much more, REAL.. Rather then just talking to you at checkpoints, there's rather constant chatter between them, keeping each other updated, LIKE PEOPLE WOULD BE DOING. In most of the regular game, I often felt like the characters were tools for moving you along in the plot, yet the heart was, there enough to make you feel like you were watching a movie.. Still though, I found myself replaying levels for fun, honing my skills and trying to earn the parts I needed to add another gun to the collection. The online community is generally very friendly, so it's worth mentioning. I must stress however for those craving horror, Awakened IS the way. Many complain of it's shortness and enemy's, "cheating", even the reused map segments, but here's the truth. It's short, yea, but it's GOOOOOOD. The human element is back, and it's scary as HELL. DS3 had a noticeable lack of hallucinations, but the extension was ripe with them, and if a nightmares being able to teliport, causing you to panic in claustrophobia, or multiplying when you kill them, making you fearful if your actions are meaningless, or a boss that follows you throughout the game, popping in every so often to say "hi, how's it going? Like how you can't hurt me? No? How about my causal stroll as I come ever closer before vanishing?", if this is cheating, then horror games just ain't for you. (Sigh) Overall? If you like Dead Space, get it, you're not gonna be disappointed, but cross your fingers and make sure EA gets the point about this being a horror game. Help fund Dead Space 4 and making sure it'll make your skin CRAWL (PS- The reused map segments are as if they were trying to say "hey, you won, now RUN THE FK AWAY" The landscape has been remodeled, making it look like it's the fking apocalypse, and the white snow is crimson as your hallucinations kick back in, so you'll hardly even notice with the map's new fresh coat of blood EVERYWHERE.

I really did like the fact that I no longer had to purchase suits like in previous games; as often they were stupidly expensive, and in the long term would often get you killed just because they sent you broke. The whole experience revolves around flexibility and customization. I'll admit that personally I enjoyed the plot line, but I see why people didn't like it as much, as it can be a bit unengaging.

I haven't managed to play too much of the co-op missions, but from what I can tell so far by it is that it really brings a new experience to the table. But for those just looking for the "classic" dead space feel, this game really delivers, with fast paced action scenes, a whole new array of enemies to fight, and with this new customized weapons system a whole new level of strategy in order to survive.

I really enjoyed the additional missions which they added as an option. You really get to explore the world left behind by the previous human that were here on the planet and dive right into other narratives, whilst also picking up a new set of incredibly valuable parts for later constructions.

If you played the previous games, and are looking for another thrilling experience, this is definitely a must.

The weapons parts can be combined in nearly infinite ways and specific parts work well with other parts, others not so well. There are bar graph indicators that should predict how fast or powerful a combination of parts will be but "fast" on one rifle frame is different on another, even though the bar graph might be equal. So it falls in part to trial and error but that's not bad, it keeps your interest in trying newer and innovative combinations to achieve the ultimate rate of fire, or damage or capacity.

Also of interest is that you must collect enough different resources, different metals and such, before you can begin crafting advanced weapons. By default the player will find one scavenger bot (you will be wise to search carefully for the other hidden two) that scavenge resources along with you. These scavenger bots are the only way to collect Ration Seals, a perk put in the game by the publisher that can be redeemed for the most powerful and exclusive weapons parts. These most powerful weapons parts result only by deploying your bots to scavenge as often as possible.

And here's the cheat: the game is set up to condition you to only release the bots when you hear a sound cue signaling an area that is presumed to be rich in resources. But the fact is that the assignment of Ration Seals to any and every given area is completely random so it is safe and in fact wise to re-deploy your bots within minutes of their return from a scavenge mission, without regard to the sound cue. Only in this way will you receive a surplus of Ration Seals great enough to afford the most powerful weapons.

IMO as a PC game, this installment is better than DS1 but not as good as DS2. The DS1 voice acting was rather wooden and, of course the protagonist never spoke at all. It was a poor port; even with the correct vSync settings the mouse still lagged noticeably.

Here in DS3, they introduced some new and formidable necromorphs but chose a love triangle as the central sub-plot and took the whole feel of the game into the realm of Michael Bay/Mission Impossible, a realm that often made my eyes roll but nothing is perfect . IMO DS2 was the best overall but this one is still a lot of fun and well worth playing, especially these days when it is priced under $10.

I can honestly say by the end I was bored and it was a struggle to finish it. The biggest issue for me was all the damn mini games and puzzles, they completely killed the atmosphere and pace of the game, at one point I was playing cargo Tetris for about 5 minutes. I also hated the set pieces with one shot mechanics, it got pretty tiresome having my toe clip a boulder and my whole body exploding into a 1000 pieces making me have to start from the beginning.

I also didn't like the new crafting system, it just felt like a downgrade to the old system, I never felt like I had enough resources to build anything and by the end of the game I hadn't been able to craft hardly any of the weapons whereas in previous games I got to try them all out. Of the few I did manage to try they all felt so underwhelming mostly due to how slow they were (even when fully upgraded), coupled with the fact that all the new enemy types were extremely fast and in much higher numbers than previous games I found myself getting swarmed on if I used anything that wasn't fully automatic.

Overall it just felt like a different game with totally different pacing and I didn't enjoy it, even though the story was good, the visuals were improved and technically it was the best of the bunch. The core of the game was just rotten and it didn't feel like Dead Space to me, it really felt like they'd tried to emulate a different game from that time period instead of just continuing to make their own game.
