Weak, gun system is boring you have to ''grind'' alot. What made this game near unplayable to me was the fact that this is a multiplayer game rather than a single player one. I don't have friends leave me alone i am not socializing. Jokes aside game is just made for two people and you feel it in every way every corner which is bothersome.

Yes, there are a few bugs here are there, but nothing game-breaking. Usually minor visual glitches. Expand

Worst Dead Space game. But still, overhated. It still got good art, designs, interesting crafting system, and pretty neat action.

A decent game to play in co-op mode. The shooting was pretty great. The weapon upgrade mechanic took some understanding and it could have been made a bit simpler. And the arc for carver was pretty great as well. But overall a decent experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge Dead Space fan, I must admit that Dead Space 3 was not what I was expecting.
It broke my heart to give it a 7 but it can't be helped.

    New Features:
1.- New store interface and Crafting system:
For some reason that I cannot comprehend, they completely changed store. No more nodes and credits. Plus, ammo now is generic. Which it's broken considering all the weapons you can get now. They took what made DS different and added pretty generic shooter stuff. Now you have to craft a bunch of resources in order to get upgrades for your suit or just craft ammo/medkits. But don’t worry, your Scavenger Bug will do all the hard work. Regarding weapons, you will also need some weapon parts and circuits. That you’ll find throughout the game. They’re treated as collectibles so don’t worry about getting them as random loot.

    2.- Crouch and Cover system
Only useful with human enemies. Trust me, you will not use these against necromorphs. Can’t say much about this cause I’m not into many third person shooters. But I think it… Works? Idk honestly.

3.- Auto saves: As you read, you cannot manually save anymore. There’s autosave now.
Which unfortunately only works on the main missions. So if you wanna do some side missions, you must finish them and then continue the main one til the game saves. If you don’t, the only thing that’s gonna save, it’s your inventory. Not your progress since the last checkpoint.

4.- Co-op mode: For the first time in the series, Dead Space 3 introduced this to team up with a friend and play the entire campaign this way.
You may have not noticed this, but if you look closely while playing in single player mode, the campaign was meant to be played this way. All the puzzles are proof of this. As a single-player enjoyer, I find this is such a shame. What developers tried to say here was that if you wanna get a full experience, stop being a loner and get some friends.
Since in co-op mode there are exclusive dialogues, side missions, cutscenes, “mechanics”, etc. All of these are not available in single player mode. It would've been much better if they also had allowed us to play this in mode but with an AI partner. Mainly because you cannot complete 100% of this game if you don't play in this mode.

    Now the usual stuff:
1.- Story: I think it’s ok. Just ok. Both endings from the main game and DLC were pretty decent. Not gonna talk much about this cause you know, spoilers.
The only thing that I wanna complain, it’s about the poor development of the antagonist. I don’t even know his name and it doesn’t matter. He is the leader of some unitologist faction, who believe that the necromorphs are holy creatures that can bring about a new form of existence. Throughout the game, he only gives speeches and fails miserably trying to kill Isaac.
In the end, he fulfilled his life purpose and died in the most pathetic way. You don’t even fight him once. And he doesn’t return in the DLC. Instead, we got a random dude with no background story or even a name.

2.- Gameplay: It’s focused more on action than horror was the first thing I noticed in the first chapters. Last chapters and DLC became a little, just a little more focused on horror.
From there onwards, just the usual stuff: Solve puzzles, fight necromorphs, human enemies, some bosses (one of them like 2-3 times), quicktime events, etc.
Impossible difficulty felt the same as usual.
However, side missions felt generic as hell. All of them have basically the same premise: Face waves of enemies to get tons of resources.
Also final bosses in both main game and DLC ending were disappointing. Especially the main game boss.
But at the end, gameplay was fun. Took me almost 35 hours to finish with a 93,8 % completed on Impossible difficulty. And yes, this percentage is all you can get in single player mode.

3.- Visuals: I definitely loved visuals in this game. Even though my PC is not that great, I could enjoy some spectacular views.
Last levels and DLC visuals looked terrific too. Truly beautiful. The game's environments are also diverse, ranging from the spaceship corridors to the ice planet of Tau Volantis. Speaking of it, each area felt unique and distinct, and the game's use of color and lighting helps to create a haunting and unsettling atmosphere. I think this is the only thing in the game that definitely deserves a 10/10.

4.- Audio: Audio design, voice acting and soundtrack were just fine. Nothing remarkable imo.

5.- Technical: It was technically a solid game with no significant frame rate drops or performance issues. The only issue I had noticed was some bugs from Chapter 9 onwards, where enemies got stuck in the environment or were just running to the wall. Other minor visual bugs as well.

So overall, DS3 was an ok game. It wasn't what we expected, but it wasn't a bad game either.

I finnished 1 and 2, but this one is not worth your time if you want to take this game seriously, it feels like a parody from dead space itself, for some reason they put drama in it wich doesn't even make sense in the story, it feels like a joke, the game itself is not that bad, but the story is a mess and takes you out of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All right follow-up of the previous games.

Dead Space 3 is an example of a game where the concept gets a little old. While still a good game, the main idea of Dead Space is not really present anymore and it feels more like a standalone game, with tight bonds to the original. Don’t get me wrong, I can absolutely understand that three games on the USG Ishmura, with the same plot and environment will get old even faster, but in my opinion, Dead Space 3 was not necessary.

Still, after what I just said, the story of this game is fairly decent. After discovering the fate of the USG Ishimura in the first game, getting to know the Marker and its capabilities in the second game, you now search for the origins of the Marker on the frozen planet Tau Volantis in search of answers in Dead Space 3.

While searching for those answers, you must fight your way trough many Necromorphs but also, humans…. This was very disappointing for me. Like I said, I can understand that you don’t make the same game thrice and need some new ideas, but the introduction of regular human enemies in great numbers, kills of all the ties with Dead Space for me. And although I can still enjoy the game, I sometimes forgot that I was playing the horror survival game Dead Space instead of Call of Duty. I would have preferred some new, wicked and lost Necromorphs instead. We got some of those, yes, but the focus on the human enemies shifted a bit too much in my opinion.

Dead Space 3 offers some new game modes like Survival and Permadeath to add some challenge to the game. This is a nice addition.

I really like the graphics in Dead Space 3. The character and suit models are nicely polished and the Necromorphs look great. Because this game is set on a frozen planet, the snow, snowstorm and cold effects are really well done.

The sound design is a little less impressive than the other games and ambient music is now playing when walking towards your next goal.

In this game, you can also craft items from parts and scrap that you find lying around. I must say that this feature is nicely done and adds some more “survival” to the game.

In the end, I had fun with Dead Space 3, although, it did not feel that special or glorious anymore. It was just all right and it added a nice piece of the story to the series.

Objectively speaking, Dead Space 3 is the worst game in the main Dead Space trilogy. Subjectively speaking, it's my favourite of the trilogy from a pure gameplay standpoint. It would be insulting to call this game a survival horror, as it is more a survival action game with a horror setting. Almost every aspect of this game can be described as fun but flawed. A bit of a disappointment after the amazing first two games in the series. In doing so, this game ended up being plenty fun and gruesome, but sadly not very scary. And that'sA bit of a disappointment after the amazing first two games in the series. The game is relatively monotonous and drawn-out, elements of horror appear only occasionally. The pace and new storytelling style ruined the atmosphere of the first two games. However, the weapon crafting system is a great innovation that adds replay value to the game. Co-op only improves this side of the game.

And of course the fact that the series ended at a cliffhanger. I guess I could make a point that a lot of the game doesn't take place within cramped space ships, but rather huge, lit-up environments.

it makes you think what the core idea for the franchise was in the first place, which was that you're alone in a desolate and claustrophobic spaceship in the middle of nowhere hunted by space-zombies that can pop out of anywhere at any time, with industrial equipment as your main means of defense against them while suffering from dementia.

Expand

Dead Space 3 many tiny rooms with waves of Xenomorphs is overkill and comes across cheap, lazy, boring and grindy.

The cool part of this game was customizing weapon loadouts. They added a fun new dodge mechanic and added fun new EVA sections. Story I didn't really give a crap, because it doesn't really go anywhere. As for the new characters live die who cares. Visually I still think the game looks cool, but everything else as not aged well.

Corporate greed, the billion different sub currencies, the ingame shop in a single player driven game? The forced co-op? The game is literally the same game as Dead Space 2, which is sad because DS2 was an amazing game. And the game is no longer atmospherically scary, but jump scare ridden trash. Every single time I got scared in DS2 was because the atmosphere was too unnerving and always made you feel on edge, but in DS3, it is completely gone, the atmosphere is just sad and not scary. The environment is bland, not too many different areas, most of the side missions were weak, not engaging, the weapon blueprints and upgrade scheme felt tacked on, Visceral wanted to make a good game, it shows. But, EA as it is, did not want to make the game good, just mediocre. The enemies were butchered and were mostly boring to fight over and over again while you're using telekinesis on doors and **** like that. And speaking of opening doors with telekinesis, the game has a sound bug where after you open that said door, the game will play a sound. But, there is a catch; the sound never **** ends. So you have to patch the game yourself via a fan modder. EA, or Visceral for that matter did not give a **** about that issue and left it in for the PC release. Overall, a mediocre action game. Not even a scary game, and I'd go as far as to say that the game reminded me of Gears of War even. Trash. Don't play it. Waiting for the fourth game for the next generation. Gun upgrades were interesting, but some of that required purchasing (real money)of certain blue prints which is shocking, let alone the upgrade pieces(chips) - god awful - the implementation of such an pay to win system, just like a number of other games of the time (like Deus ex mankind Divided) were a cash grab!

This, let alone the boring linear story which is nothing like the unusual story in it's siblings - Deadspace 2 had more than this, and even that was quite shallow.

Deadspace 3 is the dead, cold and dark Mausoleum of a once great studio - RIP Visceral game, we will remember what good you did, we will! That wont be Deadspace 3 - it has no soul and no passion; it's just an animated turd.

It does look pretty and may be worth vacantly playing through on co-op with a friend, whilst you talk about things that interest you in life. This is not worth greater than £5 - maybe 10 if you played Deadspace and want to follow it - but it is a complete let down in every way in comparison to it's predecessors.

Admittedly, Dead Space 3 sometimes succeeds in making my heart beats a little faster, but by the 50th time I had to shoot my way out of a horde of Necromorphs, I was not scared anymore. I was annoyed.

I can honestly say by the end I was bored and it was a struggle to finish it. The biggest issue for me was all the damn mini games and puzzles, they completely killed the atmosphere and pace of the game, at one point I was playing cargo Tetris for about 5 minutes. I also hated the set pieces with one shot mechanics, it got pretty tiresome having my toe clip a boulder and my whole body exploding into a 1000 pieces making me have to start from the beginning.

I also didn't like the new crafting system, it just felt like a downgrade to the old system, I never felt like I had enough resources to build anything and by the end of the game I hadn't been able to craft hardly any of the weapons whereas in previous games I got to try them all out. Of the few I did manage to try they all felt so underwhelming mostly due to how slow they were (even when fully upgraded), coupled with the fact that all the new enemy types were extremely fast and in much higher numbers than previous games I found myself getting swarmed on if I used anything that wasn't fully automatic.

Overall it just felt like a different game with totally different pacing and I didn't enjoy it, even though the story was good, the visuals were improved and technically it was the best of the bunch. The core of the game was just rotten and it didn't feel like Dead Space to me, it really felt like they'd tried to emulate a different game from that time period instead of just continuing to make their own game.

Am I late to the party? I love the atmosphere, game play and environment design, but the save system sucks all the fun out of the game. I've got maybe an hour or two at a time to play, but the DS3 save system punishes players with limited time. In the end it's unlikely I'll even finish the game and even more unlikely to buy any future sequels...which is a shame.

This game is an insult to Dead Space and horror fans in general. In EA's attempt to appeal to a broader audience, they might have as well handed Visceral games a shovel and and told them at gun point to start digging their own grave next to the other corpse's (i;e, west wood studios).

The game has the worst start to a game that I've played. it goes against everything that dead space stands for. You fight zombies. Not the necromorphs from the first and second games. Plain zombies. second is you are given an abundance of supplies. no need to worry about health and ammo until later. They remove the disturbing and unsettling soundtracks and add them in later. Anndddd they have you fight humans and add a crouch system.

Another thing is that they add nothing to the combat. Apart from the secondary weapon modes they add nothing. The only new and significant thing they add is the Crafting which was done well. A single weapon can be changed into something completely different. I started with an smg and now have a revolver that shoots electricity and has a second barrel that has rapid fire. The store and old BENCH system is gone. No more power nodes. Instead you collect materials around the world to upgrade weapons or build new ones. You also use crafting to upgrade your RIG for more HP and armor. You can Also craft ammo and health kits along with other supplies.

Gameplay is exactly the same as Dead space 2 . All too familiar enemy types make a comeback, with the only difference being a texture change. Apart from the axe wielding zombies and replacing the necro-babies with dogs, everything is the same in the combat Hell, they even use the same model for the Hunter/Regenerater from the first game .

Side missions are a new addition to the game that promise an expanded story and a chance at more supplies and loot. But too many of them are needlessly drawn out and only make more questions than answers. And the Save system in horrible. There are two different saves in this game. They replace the manual save systems with Checkpoints and auto saves. But the two are completely different . Check points are places you will respawn if you die. But they do not save you progress if you quit. Thats what Auto saves are for. And they are so few and spread out. I kept dying the the start of the game and getting thrown back to a save that was made 15 minutes ago.

horror is toned down significantly in exchange for in your face combat. The story is uninspiring. Overall not the worst game, Only redeemed by the awesome visuals and crafting system, Just an unworthy successor to the franchise.

This first game was one of the scariest thing I've ever experienced and the second one was a great game but I did find my self scared a jump scare or two got me but that was it. This game had quite a lot of attempts at scare but, much like the second, not many got pass.

I played it twice, and second time in NewGame+ so I had my weapons all power up from the first run. Still some of it was infuriatingly harsh. Some of those abseils up the cliffs were painful rinse and repeat coz you keep dying. Some of the bigger monsters won't go down, so I had to google for the technique. Puzzles for opening doors were nightmarish, meaning up to thirty times to get it open.

To add to the trouble I didn't understand hacking until much later on. It was the way it was explained in DS2 when I first came across hacking. From what it said I thought you had to hit mouse at only certain times. That was when both the dial lit up thick blue AND the mouse pointer was in a thin part of the edge of the dial. Sometimes hacks were taking me twenty minutes. Imagine my distress when I hacked, opened a door and died. Had to hack again.

My first run through of DS3 was brutal and barbaric. I was playing on hard setting but it was un-really difficult. I died so many times I lost count. Anyway it took me about forty hours to play. One particular side-mission I set off on with a checkpoint, and I was five hours playing before I got another. That is true. I just kept dying.

The weapon crafting system is complicated beyond belief. The reality is you craft something and hope for the best. My first build I chose a high damage weapon and built it. Fine it had a bit of kick, but there was no warning of the characteristic of the weapon. The clip held six rounds - basically useless. The re-load was diabolically slow. The projectile was like a wide band of energy, so much of it was wasted on one target. Then there was the slow speed of the projectile. Not exaggerating when I say some monsters could walk out the path of it.

Now I think I have the general idea of the weapon crafting. However I need that first play, not a vague feeling after two plays. I suffered terribly having not upgraded my weapons for quite some time at first.

The real option of course is to turn down the difficulty. Guess who forgot all about that; yes me.

I have to say that I am pleased that there is the odd other user reviewer that has mention it gets distressing. To those reviewers, I respect you for your honesty.

If Dead Space had always been a co-op series then that would be fair enough but it's not and this seems unfair on people only playing for single-player. Which is the majority of people given it started out as single-player only. There are also microtransactions in Dead Space 3 which really shouldn't be in a console game at all.

Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are still as good now as they were when they were originally released. Unfortunately Dead Space 3 isn't on the same level as they are.

Ditching some of the pure horror elements of the franchise was appropriate for the story and setting of the game and it actually outshines DS1&2 in some areas. Environments are detailed and beautifully realized. Level design is great and offers some non-linear elements that reward you for exploration. There is also a very deep weapon and equipment customization system that allows you to gather a wide range of resources use them to create and upgrade. You are required to manage resources wisely to advance.

The problems with the DS3 lie along two lines. First, the developers seem to think you constantly need hordes of enemies to shoot at and this can lead to sections of the game were the action is Call of Duty style over the top. Over the course of an almost 20 hr campaign this can get exhausting and even dull. There should be some quieter moments to allow you to explore the large environments, provide exposition or allow for character interaction. Second, while the overall plot is pretty good, the story pacing can sometimes drag and instead of progressing it can belabor the same points. Also, The characters outside of Isaac and Ellie are poorly developed and their actions are sometimes hard to understand.

Overall the experience could best be described as "Bioschock 2 in space" and it should be enjoyed on those terms instead of being compared to its predecessors.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dead Space 3, well, is a good enough game, although not as good as Dead Space 1&2. Due to the greedy EA's policy, the game has been split up on several DLCs. While many of those DLCs have just minor effect on the game play, the biggest one, the "Awakening", is a *direct sequel* to the main plot of the game. Got it? EA is trying to sell the part of the game that should have been included in the minimum package! Disgusting!
Also, so named additional missions are almost identical from geometrical point of view. I mean, they are very, very similar to each one; the only difference is just enemies and loot. Meh.
The giant spider boss is too enduring, and he is almost the only one boss in the game! Meh, once again.
Bottom line: buy the game at your own risk. I'd recommend to buy a GOTY/DC/Gold/Platinum version (if they will ever appear) of the game, including at least the "Awakening" DLC. Otherwise, you'll just miss the final part of the game.

There's some good things it retains and improves from the rest of the series, but there's also so many things that should NOT have been done that drags the game down to being the worst of the series by far.

Dead Space 3 has the great production values, general creepiness and atmosphere it's become known for, but what it fails to recapture from prior games is the actual fear. Encounters feel as if theyv'e been designed to just give the player a shooting gallery, not scares, and it doesn't even do that very well in most cases. This wouldn't be so bad if it also retained the feeling that you're always short of resources, but you never really are, they are plentiful even on harder difficulties, especially once you make it a little ways into the game. You also seem to be able to go through old areas after loading a game and find new items from places you've already looted, which is ridiculous.

The addition of "human enemies" also feels very tacked on, like some suit at EA figured it should be more like Call of Duty. Story-wise it's plausible, but feels totally out of place and it's not done well. The ability to crouch and roll just seems wrong for a veteran of the series and both are useless. The human enemies are also dumber than a sack of hammers in terms of their AI.

Speaking of EA suits (i.e. people that are dumber than a sack of hammers), another major issue is DLC and micro-transactions being thrown in the player's face while IN THE GAME. The awesome real-time interfaces Dead Space uses should not have be marred with constant reminders that you can be nickel and dimed for content that should have been included in the inital price. This is just tacky, and a huge immersion breaker.

The good things are that the controls are as tight as ever, from general movement, shooting and zero G. The combat itself is just as fun as it always was and of course visually it's the most stunning of the series. The games "weapon crafting" system, is for the most part well done, with lots of combinations of all your favorites. I don't find the addition of co-op to be a bad thing since it's already going with direction they took with the encounter design. The game is a fairly good length, but I really don't like when a game includes "co-op only" content. I didn't find QTE style events too annoying, they were done fairly well. I found the story to be decent and the all the extra audio and text logs to be worth the time to listen to and read.

All-in-all it's a step back for the series, but it's still worth your time if you can buy it on sale. Hopefully we'll get a sequel or reboot in the future that takes the game back to its root and not more towards the mindless recycled shooter genre.

As for DS3, it's clearly obvious that the franchise is moving away from survival-horror to action. After all it is essential for a franchise to innovate and explore new directions, especially since the scare factor has a tendency to fade anyway. However Dead Space 3 does not innovate or explore anything really new and worst of all it looses it's roots and originality. Nearly everything that made the previous games so great is either gone or broken. The scariness of space was replaced by a planet. Character development and interactions were replaced by more characters with zero development. Badass Ellie was replaced by cleavage Ellie. Story twists, tensions and dementia were replaced by boring romantic complications, jealousy and predictability. In Dead Space 3 there are no surprises, just things waiting to happen. Everything from gameplay to characters and story feel like a generic mainstream action flick made to please the widest audience. This game could have been great but instead settled to be an okay Dead Space game and an okay action game.To Visceral : stay true to the DS2 formula which is to expand and slightly reshape the core. To EA : I hope you haven't killed this franchise, 'cause I want DS4. The only things from DS3 I want to see in DS4 are the alien story line, Carver and the weapon customization.

The storyline was fine, but certainly became a little weaker towards the ending. The game also offers optional side objectives and co-op objectives which can offer more insight into the back story and some extra supplies and upgrades. The crafting menu to me made the game a little easier since you could just make ammo and med packs opposed to frightfully walking to corridors wondering when you will come across another.

Overall despite losing my progress and kicking me back a few chapters at one point, I really enjoyed my experience with Dead Space 3 and look forward to seeing where the universe is heading next.

I played through dead space, dead space 2(my favourite), dead space 3, dead space extraction, and the dead space mobile. I love this franchise but I am sad to say that this game was disappointing.
-Gameplay = The gameplay was solid, I did like Isaac (Or Carver) roll and crouch which gave me more flexibility . Okay sure it did made it less scarier and made it more action. Only problem though, there was really no point in rolling unless to go slightly faster which was comically. I didn't really like the shift from horror to action which pretty much what caused the game to fail. The game didn't feel intense or worst case no fun at all, in the previous titles you felt like a badass but could get killed easily. The new gun crafting is a neat idea but it wasn't well implemented. The two weapon slots made me very angry because I was so use to Dead Space 2. This is where the biggest problem lies, the game's own gun play was BORING. Universal ammo clip?!?!?! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!? TWO WEAPON SLOTS?!? When I first played the demo I thought the ammo clip was there for the demo purpose but dear god it wasn't. This is where I began to hate this game. The side missions were a neat distraction from the main plot. It is a welcome addition, gave it us more to do and more insight on Isaac's location. Now the co-op is something most people were pissed about but it wasn't that bad. It made the game a whole lot easier and less scarier but it was fun playing with my friend and had a blast. The extra dialogue scenes, and missions made it worth while.
    7/10
-Graphics = This is part confused. I couldn't tell if the game looked worse or better than Dead Space 2. Don't get me wrong the game is very beautiful and has an amazing backdrops. It was character models that looked low resolution. Isaac looked a lot better in the Dead Space 2(not because of age or whatever conditions he was in) the model looked rather unfinished. Ellie Langford looks really weird in this title which I am not surprise if you experienced the Nicole face change from DS1 to DS2. In short, the models looked unfinished and some low res textures and lightning but the environment and interiors were well done. 7/10
-Story = OH boy... The story was nothing special; actually it might have made me truly hate this game. The story is no brainier, UInitologists are acting as stupid and blind as ever(damn bastards) doing dumb things and the main antagonist was an buffoon. He was so cliche, there was so many instances where he could have taken down Isaac but he doesn't; he just talks. He has no depth to his character at all, he was just your blind Unitologist baddie number 1. The characters in DS2 weren't the best but it got the job done. This time Isaac was more of a dick who didn't give a crap about anyone except Ellie and later Carver. Carver was my favourite character here, sure he was an a-hole towards you but he begins to trust you(if you played the co-op). He starts out as an dick then a sarcastic a-hole(which was kind of funny). The thing that was soo disappoint about this character was that his family just died and they explain it in one line. There goes any more plot development for the character. Every one else I didn't care for or hated. Maybe the other character I might have liked was that scientist lady(I forgot her name because the characters were flat and uninteresting and died off too quickly and abruptly). I HATE ELLIE LANGFORD, how can you make a character who could have had potential as a strong female heroine in DS2 and make her the most annoying person in DS3. In DS2 she was someone who didn't trust anybody because it almost got her killed and knows how to fight back. She talks back at Isaac and becomes like your best friend in this sick world. In DS3 all she does is whine and do nothing, she is more a plot device to drive Isaac to do things. Her boyfriend is dumb ass and hated him; that's it.
3/10(I would have given this a more worse score if it weren't the fact I love the DS universe and its lore)
-Music = none of the soundtrack stand out and memorable. The typical jump scares sound affects(weren't even scary). The sound and music was just there. Had some dramatic music in there which was nice. 5/10
-Lasting appeal - The game was fairly short and even shorter with co-op. The gun play made it super easy because you can make your game into a most over powered cheap weapon. I had to limit myself to use a plasma cutter and a one random weapon. The side missions were a good additions and the DLC was solid.
In conclusion, I didn't like this game that much compare to DS2 and hope this franchise gets revived. It needs to go back to its roots.

I had a hard time with crafting and thus only used the plasma cutter for most of the game until I finally managed to craft a decent weapon. The difficulty of this game is also much more lax than in the previous games- ammo and health were plentiful, and I could just craft myself more if I wanted to.

What does the game do right? The storyline is decent and the characters are fine. The rapid changes in environments from the first few levels were fantastic, until you actually get to Tau Volantis. From that point on, it becomes a redundant trudge through the same environment over and over again. But, for those first few levels, you really hit some pulse-pounding scenes. Also, getting to finally dismember Unitologists? That's definitely a bonus- those guys have had it coming since the first game. It was a joy to finally give them what's for. The crafting system, mentioned earlier, is great when you can actually get it to work effectively (I stumbled across many, many weapon combinations that were plain useless). Finally, the end game- the last few levels turn into an altogether different game. At the end, I finally got powerful weapons crafted, powerful upgrades, and felt like deity that laid the smack down upon anyone stupid enough to mess with me. The difficulty plummeted at this point as I laid waste to everything. Was it fun? Yes. Was it Dead Space? No.

Standardized Ammo was, unfortunately, a bad move. It took away much of the strategy that the first game had in the sense of ammo conservation. Basically the game was won as soon as you found a shotgun mod and combined it with an assault weapon of choice.

    SPOILER HERE:

There is a section where at least 2 regenerators attack. Difficult usually, but once you get a shotgun you can blast legs off nice and easy.

Okay gameplay, nice story. Do not like the weapon system that much. I like to cut monsters in half or to blow them up and i saved up for an awesome gun, or actually a couple and found them disappointing. The Graphics was disappointing as well. Looked like something from 2005. But it was okay to play. Luckily i got it cheap on Humblebundle.com :D

The optional missions are hit and miss as far as the amount of depth they add to the experience. The voice-acting was pretty good for the most part, and the script seemed to be on-par with previous games. As far as the weapon system goes, I liked the system in dead space 1 and 2 better. Back when you had multiple ammo types you had to be more tactical with what type of gun you wanted to use and when. Now everything has the same ammo and you can beat the whole game with the same gun. It also breaks immersion to have all guns utilize the same ammo. The music in this game is pretty good overall, although for some reason you only get to hear the best songs on the soundtrack on the end credits. Something that I had a problem with was the volume control. You can turn down specific types of volume in the options menu (i.e. voice, effects, music, etc). This works fine for the large stretches of regular gameplay. But the game turns everything back to full whenever there is a cutscene and the sound effects are too loud. The battles are predictable and more of an annoyance than something to scare or challenge you. Really? Another battle where you're going to send 20 different guys at me as soon as I pick up the key item? That definitely made the game drag at times. On the whole the game was enjoyable at times, but seemed to have a whole lot of filler, especially in the first few hours. If this was a smaller game studio I would rate the game higher, but EA has enough people working on these projects that someone should have said something about how repetitive the battles were. I give this one a 6, worth playing if you can get it cheap. Definitely don't spend more than $10 on it though. Expand

For one, it feels like every other action game you've ever played before. Admittedly, I played on the easiest setting because I'm too old to feel frustrated (and don't really need a "challenge" to enjoy a game), but even on the easiest settings there were some pretty annoying baddies. It sorta felt like I was in Dawn of the Dead, haha. On that note, I wasn't a fan of how the enemies were placed or were popped out. I can't think of any moment that made me jump, and being attacked by an enemy that spawned a mile back is somewhat obnoxious.

In any case, I really, really enjoyed the crafting portion. They definitely should have fleshed it out a bit more and given the player a little bit more information (for example, having actual numbers for each stat rather than just a meter), but otherwise, I had a lot of fun mixing and matching and crafting weapons that I liked. (I was a little sad, though, that the regular cutter wasn't as awesome as it was in the first DS.) And, the crafting system felt intuitive, for the most part, and seemed very much to fall in line with Isaac's character.

Along those lines, I felt the story was a bit... meh. It started strong, but quickly fell into generic dialogue and plot lines. The ending was a small surprise, but only in what the end boss actually is. (I won't actually spoil it for you if you haven't played it.) The voice acting was good, though, I just felt their lines were a bit weak, which then translated into somewhat weak characters, almost like it was written with the idea of over-acting in mind.

I also enjoyed the various locales. I'm a huge fan of areas that make you feel the vastness of the scenery, in this case outer space and the ice planet. To be sure, the graphics and detail were really enjoyable. I would have liked to have spent more time on the planet since the other two were primarily in space (you're in space for at least 30-40% of the start of the game), but that's more of a personal preference and really didn't affect how much I enjoyed the game.

In any case, all that being said, I am a fan of running around and shooting space zombies. That never really gets old. And, to loop it back in with my initial statement, I am far more an action-horror guy than a survival-horror guy, so although I enjoyed DS3 more than DS1, DS1 was an overall better game in its category.

Right as the game begins, it's made pretty clear that Dead Space 3 is no longer even attempting to be a horror game as you're thrown into the action and start off by doing a bit of cover-based shooting against enemy soldiers. Needless to say, this opening section didn't instil much confidence for the rest of the game. After this thankfully brief shooting gallery, DS3 remembers it's roots and soon enough you're blowing limbs off necromorphs left and right.

The story isn't much to write home about: after a run-in with the fanatical Unitology cult, Isaac must travel with a small group of cardboard-cut-out stereotypes to the planet of Tau Volantis and stop the necromorph infestation one and for all. The plot unfolds in a fairly predicable manner, with several plot twists that range from cliché to nonsensical. Some effort is made to introduce character conflict between Isaac and some of his fellow crew members, but there's very little reason given for us to actually care about the characters aside from some generic dialogue. As in previous games, DS3 lacks a convincing antagonist; opting instead to just make the usual psychopath/religious fanatic who's evil for no better reason than “the plot demands it”. The voice acting is above-average for a video game, but is nothing special.

The overall gameplay is fairly similar to previous Dead Space games: mainly involving over-the-shoulder shooting as well as some light RPG progression. The RPG elements take the form of various upgrades you can give your suit although they're all bog-standard: better armour, better health, more air etc. The one major new addition to the combat is weapon crafting, which allows the player to scavenge various parts from the levels and use then to create and buy weaponry, rather than the credits system from previous games. The system works well and allows plenty room for experimentation, although some combinations can totally break the game: I found using a hovering saw with an under-slung explosive charge launcher could pulverise just about anything the game could throw at me. Overall though, the crafting has an appropriate survival feel to it and is much more involving than DS1 and 2's standard shop system. However, all this is negated by a universal-ammo system: previous games would often force you to adapt to weapons you weren't necessarily comfortable with by limiting ammo for your other weapons, making for a more intense experience. Dead Space 3 on the other hand uses generic "ammo clips" that were so ubiquitous that I never even came close to running out of ammo, ultimately de-fanging what little tension the game initially has. From a technical perspective, Dead Space 3 is absolutely top-notch. The sounds design remains some of the finest in modern triple-A gaming and the grimy visuals effectively paint a bleak, almost post-apocalyptic dystopian future, low texture quality notwithstanding.

Ultimately, as a third-person shooter, Dead Space 3 succeeds admirably but as a horror game it barely conjures up even a few tense moments. As a thought-provoking story, it's down there with a generic cinema blockbuster.

Dead Space 3 does many things very well, but seems to have fallen short on exactly those strengths that made this franchise unique. Dead Space 3 has turned the franchise into a very straightforward 3rd person shooter, with some scary moments.

Gameplay-wise, Dead Space 3 offers a revamped Weapon system, where players can create completely custom weapons that combine any two weapon types, most of which we have seen before, and some of which are brand new. While heralded by many reviewers as a great feature, it actually manages to completely destroy one of the principles that made Dead Space what it was: surviving on the bare minimum, being short on everything, having to adapt your playstyle to availability of Shops, ammo and weaponry. No more of this with the new Bench, you will have the most destructive weapon you could possibly build, within the first few hours of play.

And of course it IS fun to play around with the bench and blast away the uglies. But it gets boring very quickly, and then you realize the new customization options completely destroy the game's feel of tension and fear. It gets worse, though. At some point you have the materials you need to start upgrading your already overpowered weaponry through Circuits, to ensure the need to progress slowly and with care is now completely obliterated.

Where Dead Space 1 offered a quality storyline like few games can and have done, Dead Space 3 has reduced the story to a bare necessity to justify the large amount of content it has. Because yes, there are many levels to play and places to discover, though all of them are fairly linear and offer little in terms of surprise or shock.

In conclusion, I feel it is safe to say that Dead Space 3 is a very solid 3rd person action game, but no longer a very solid Survival Horror game. If you are looking for and expecting the latter like most players of the franchise, this can be a bit unsettling.

    - They also did coop in my opinion awesomely. You weren't forced to restart a mission just because someone wanted to play with you, the drop in and drop out system at the checkpoints were very convenient.

My expectations were big for Dead Space 3, even if the game didn't seem spooky anymore and well, you know, EA was in charge. I really appreciated the first 2 games and I wanted to see the finally. I got what I wanted, but at a certain price..

First things first, Dead Space 3 was developed for consoles and unfortunately for us PC gamers, it's a straight port. The controls are awful and absolutely not intuitive. A good example would be the key to exit menus, sometimes it's TAB, sometimes ESC. I strongly recommend re-mapping the hot-keys unless you want your hand to feel like a spider on the keyboard. The graphics are the same as on console and they're aren't any fancy settings like FOV. I don't understand why EA would put zero effort in the PC version of a game they want to sell massively and be successful. It's like EA still doesn't care about PC Gamers and think they are a minority.

At least EA did us a favor, they added micro-transactions to the game, cause hey, we love micro-transactions, don't we.. Not only is there micro-transactions, co op was added to the game! But don't worry, not the lame local co op were you get to play with your friend on the couch and have a great time. Instead, both have to pay for the game, full price and play online on stable servers. Thank you EA for your generosity, kindness and openness to customer feedback!

For the core game-play itself, it's not that bad. You can only carry two guns with you, instead of four, but the dismemberment still feels good and that's important for a third game in a franchise that's about killing alien zombies. The Necromorphs also still feel dangerous and scary, that last aspect being a concern for a lot of players before release. Visceral Games decided to renew the crafting system or as they call it the "bench". You can now create your own weapons and items from materials which are scavenged by bots you send out. It's a fun addition, but I had so many health packs I never felt I needed to make some until the very end. Another poor aspect of the game-play were boss fights. They were completely unoriginal and way too simple, including the finally. Developers seem to have a hard time making good boss fights these days. If your going to have boss fights in your game, at least make them fun and challenging or don't put them at all.

The last aspect that I haven't talked about is the reason why I bought the game: the story. The background story, the main plot, is the best part of the game and it's what saves it. If you are a Dead Space fan like me, you've always wanted to know the truth behind those Markers and that Visceral Games delivered. There is only one thing that bothered me in the story: the relationship between Isaac and Ellie. In the first game, our favorite engineer is in love with his girlfriend Nicole and misses her terribly. In the second game we meet Ellie, but Clarke has visions of Nicole and is still clearly in love with her. Nothing special happens between Ellie and Isaac, they simply help each other out. Now apparently, we haven't seen Ellie since, but we are heartbroken and miss her terribly. I don't get the sudden change. The whole story I never bit the new romance. It's like they completely forgot about Nicole and replaced her with Ellie. Isaac doesn't even mention her once or think about her, even if she was a very important character in the first two games.

Dead Space 3 is exactly like one of it's horrible creatures: the transformation from console to PC was horrible, it's hungry for you(or your money), it's not too friendly about having fun with someone else, the flesh around it is rotten and you can't feel much compassion for it, but at it's core, it is what it is, a Dead Space game. That's what saved it, but to get there, I had to go through a lot of rotten flesh and that's a hard price to pay(apart from the 60$) just to have a bit of fun and learn the truth. I would only recommend the game to real Dead Space fans, that have played both first games and I also suggest you wait for the price to lower(around 20$). EA should leave this franchise alone for a couple of years, before it completely decays. I know there's a DLC for the game, but that should of not even existed. Maybe EA is using the Dead Space games to pass subliminal messages to players: "Make us whole EA, make us whole!", but so far I don't think that's working out too good for them.

    Verdict
A good Dead Space game at it's core, but the flesh around it leaves a bitter taste.

Weapon crafting system almost nice, but too obviously just a plot to convince people to throw away money to build their perfect weapon, along with an overly long and infinite achievement list to unlock certain weapon parts and armor, again to push no bully the gamer which already purchased the game with an AAA price tag to throw even more money towards EA.

Worse still, all the hallucination scenes and the last game chapters were seemingly ripped off the base game and tacked on a DLC to gaugue more money from the players, giving the story an odd pace on both the base game with its non-ending, and the 'expansion'.

The franchise would deserve a better number, but unfortunately it has to be averaged with EA's low rating, making it deserve no more than a 5.

Unimpressive story, and the feel of the traditional Dead Space gameplay has been turned on it's head. If I didn't love the lore of the series so much (which is more a credit to the previous games than this one) this game would be getting a lower score. It feels that Dead Space franchise has lost its originality in the 3rd part, cause now it is played as every other multi-platform action game with covers and roll-overs, while keeping all of the own series issues: narrow corridors, lots of identical small rooms where nothing happens, millions of doors that lock down right after your back and lame camerawork with Isaak's back covering half of the screen most of the time PS. Oh, and we were fooled when told that we may get the same experience in single player as with partner there are some areas for co-op missions that are forbidden in singleplayer mode same way as unique items stashed there.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the Dead Space franchise. The first game was something special. I enjoy films like Aliens, Event Horizon, The Thing etc. It was nice to see a developer be so inspired by those films and atmospheres. The second one took it a step further and was brilliant. The first game had horror. The second game had terror. The third game? Well lets just say its action. I understand how a developer can't do more of the same but why the hell can't they at least PUSH the envelope and make the action meld with more horror? A good example is the Awakened DLC. Now the enemies in that game were horror! throw those in 3 with the bloody necromorphs from the first two games and I really wouldn't have had any problem. The problem though is adding the crouching, shooting gallery mechanics and bum rushing enemies that block corridors. It really broke the game for me. Not to mention lack of exploration this time round. Sure we go through many environments but its mostly backtracking. I liked the space parts the most but the rest of it was pretty lacking. I was also annoyed *SPOILER* that you don't get to go to the moon..instead you fight the moon. Really? now whole moons are bosses? that was the stupidest part of the whole game. What is this Mass Effect 3? Death Star? The boss just looked laughable though I liked the chaotic environment. Story was weak this time round..instead of Isaac worrying about his missing girlfriend we got Carver who has to be the worst companion character right next to Aliens: Colonial Marines companion. Guy has tourettes. I didn't even bother with the co-op. Finally the last gripe was the weapon crafting system. I utterly hated this. I miss the old weapons. Should have kept those and just allowed upgrades instead of crafting new weapons. Don't see the point? other then giving us some hard work to do. Breaks up the pacing and obviously was put in to keep the player from noticing the short levels. On the plus side some of the enemy designs were great (The DLC Awakened being the best), graphics are always top notch, sound design was good (though I noticed on headphones it veers towards the left side...a bug?) ----------If your a fan of the series I recommend it and the DLC Awakened is brilliant up until the silly ending. I don't really know where else they can take it. I am so tired of those monsters attack the Earth plot lines.. 7/10 Expand

I think this is probably the best Dead Space game in the series. I liked the story line, the graphics, and the challenging aspects of the game. Yet, I can understand the negative reviews, because I have had similar problems with all of the Dead Space games: e.g, you can't walk fast or jump, the weapons are especially wimpy, the lags in the action, etc. Still, I recommend this game highly.

Monsters have become more alien/mutant in nature, and thus lose the human aspect that made them so terrifying to begin with. The genre has essentially changed from survival/horror to action/third person shooter. To say that the game was not scary is a serious overstatement. It is NOT a horror game, but tries to sell as one. -1 for extremely terrible and unimaginative plot. The amount of brilliance and resources invested into the creation of this story is painfully mediocre, and makes me feel as if this game wasn't design to win "game of the year" but to rake in more money by flying on the tailwind of the series. Not only is the storytelling quality "just bad", the characters are extremely bland and generic. Absolutely nothing unique or interesting about any of them. Nothing memorable. -1 for AWFUL audio. In general. I should make a strong point here. The choice of sound for the monsters is not very... complementary. Something that's supposed to be scary, intimidating, or at least somewhat threatening should not be making gurgling fish noises. Also, many times monsters won't make any initial sounds upon spawning; they were designed to sneak up on you as silently as possible and then make their presence known when you turn around. The choice of music was also quite absurd, and would have been inappropriate for the game regardless of whether or not it was an action or a horror genre.
-1 for repetitive, unoriginal, and at times, boring environment. There's a lot of blood to go around, that was present in both DS1 and DS2. But DS3 presents it in a way that isn't scary AT ALL. It's as if the exact same blood splatter trail was used every time a body was supposedly dragged across the room.

IN CONCLUSION: As an action game, it isn't the worst I've ever seen. It tries really hard to mimic Mass Effect and Halo. The weapons customization feature was somewhat enjoyable. Overall, this was a very unimpressive experience.

Sadly, the game doesn't do much to make you care about pretty much anything that is going on. There is some kind of lover's spat or love triangle situation going on. There is some dude named Carver who jumps in and out if you are playing single player, which just makes no sense. Why does he keep running off? Oh, because this isn't co-op. That makes complete sense in the story. "I'll meet you there", says Carver. "Why not go together if we are going to the same place anyway?", asks Isaac. "Cause you are lonely and have no friends!", exclaims Carver before he runs off, disappears, and does nothing useful. Speaking of not making sense, the story doesn't. At least not to me. It could also be that, like I said, the game just doesn't make you care enough to look into it too much. The crafting and scavenging mechanics were actually a pleasant surprise to me, although the former created the necessary evil of universal ammo eliminating those times where you are scrambling to switch weapons or swinging away in melee. The combat is still satisfying and very much visceral (haha get it? I suck) with a few more interesting enemies and some not-so-interesting enemies thrown into the mix. I never found myself using the cover system as it was complete garbage. They would have been better off leaving out the knee-high crates. The ending left me with a feeling of nothingness because, to be honest, I didn't really care about any of the characters or the plot by that point anymore. The lore of the game died to me but, hell, at least I have a ton of different weapons to shoot and plenty of cool aliens to kill. That's enough to get it a 6 in my book, but no more. Expand

In short, the graphics are more than satisfactory, the writing and voice acting is excellent and immersive, the story CAN get a little cliche and vague at times, but it seems as a logical evolution of previous installments. Now one thing that everyone is mentioning is the dynamic of the gameplay. It's a tad more faster paced than the DS1 2, the enemies are more aggressive and faster, while the ammo is scarce at best (though that could be a matter of Difficulty). The overall atmosphere feels the same, the gritty, bloodstained corridors, the unidentifiable noises and the ever-familiar vent-scares are there, though how well they actually work with the more aggressive gameplay, that is up to each individual gamer's taste. If i had one thing to complain about, it would be the feeling of playing an unfinished product. There are some bits here and there, that feel very unpolished and even laughable, which, for me, ruins the whole experience.
