Considering this game is a complete rip-off of Soul Reaver one might expect that they could produce a better story considering the Legacy of Kain series (of which Soul Reaver is a part) has the best story in gaming history.

So to sum up, fun but not a game of the year.

My overall experience with Darksiders was enjoyable. The aspects of the game that it took from previous titles such as Zelda and God of War were all well implemented. While the game may not be as good as the titles it takes mechanics from, it is a decent title that I would recommend picking up.

I found the game very-very easy. If you use dash and stone skin you will kick-asses all the game, I lose only 1 heal bar vs The Destroyer-Abbadon in Apocalypsis (only lose the bar because I suck in "pressing bottons mini-games").

Well, I use two post-procesing forced into the game: FXAA (max quality) and morphological filtering, force AA edge dected (multisample) at 8qX (that is 16x in nVidias) and Texture Ultra quality (with AMD optimacer). V-Sync at 58 frames (you know, new patch in Catalys AMD allow you to fix V-sync frames to a minimun of 55 and a maximun of 95).

Doing this the game improve a lot. GRAPICS AND EFFECT AT MAMMOTH LVLS. Really impressive the good optimization of this game, a 2010 game support so hard-core high-end set up is impressive.

Most of the game is not fight at all. Puzzles are stupidly easy and they only made you lose a lot of time (and fun).

Maybe people said this game is hard because they tried to block in fights (there is a small dealy in blocks) so you have to be very, very acuarate and wait the exact moment, or just dash an hit. I calculate that for every counter I can made 4 slash. Just dash and slash :D. Very easy game. (Yeah, I have the madman trophy in the Witcher II, so this is a chesse eating game).

    Solid 7 game:
Grapics: 7 (with forces AA improve to a 10, for 2010 standars)
    Sounds: 7
    Fun lvl: 7
    Difficult: 1
Puzzle solve: -1000 (very boring part of the game, at least 10 hours of the game is solving puzzles)

Slasher with an open world create a perfect combination, as evidenced by the Darksiders. The game has very nice, varied fairy-tale graphics and nice soundtrack. An interesting character leveling. I think this game is one of the best slashers on the market.

As a slasher it really does grate in terms of... well... slashing. Killing enemies is rewarding, and finishers feel really good, even though the secondary weapons weren't really comfortable in use, and made me use only that huge sword. But that's not the last of "it-could-have-been-done-better". Some of the ranged weapons became useless after half an hour of having them in the inventory, and War's horse felt balky. Anyways the storyline and fun Darksiders gave me make me want to go, try the sequel. I'm actually on my way to do that, and I hope it got away from it's predecessor's flaws. Expand

The game doesn't dish out anything original really so you might not be impressed if you have played a ton of video games on the Xbox already. I just got my Xbox about 6 months ago and I think this is one of the better games for this system if you like a challenge, but not too much of a challenge. Other than a couple of REALLY tedious challenge type battles the game is awesome. Controls are a bit off sometimes. And there seems to be a delay with jumping so if you are running towards a cliff you will end up falling off a few times until you get used to jumping a little bit sooner. If it were not for the small negative things I posted this game would have gotten a 10 and that is not counting the dated looking graphics. This game should NOT be getting a 10 as it is not the same caliber as a perfect game and whoever is giving this game a 0 and saying that it is linear is full of crap. Final Fantasy was linear. This game is like Zelda or Metroid in some ways. If you like God of War, Metroid or Zelda try this one out. Just don't have the expectation that this game is as polished as those titles. The World Map design is perfect! 9/10... there are some bad checkpoints and fast travel points... the fast travel mechanic is really cool and creative... respect to Devs team sadly there is no hint system, if you are lost in the map or confused or can't figure how to kill certain enemy or boss... you either gonna die a lot trying to figure it out on your own or just Google it because "Watcher" is useless lol... Watcher is waste feature to be honest most of the puzzles are really really cool and enjoyable... but still there are few annoying ones

(don't mind many of the reviewers who complain that the game is too hard or unbalanced when they are playing on the hardest difficulty, maybe the game can improve on the doability of the difficulty levels but if you are signing up for the hardest level then expect the hardest gameplay where you WILL struggle).
I combines and improves some of the Dark Soul series game features such as the ability to invest all of your souls at once, the leveling is a lot more streamlined which can be a CON I suppose as well.

    CONS:
While the list of cons might be a bit longer it is meant as a general feedback to an extent for the devs as well as for the people who want to lay the game and what they can expect.
The level design while great and colorful can sometimes feel the same and you can get lost in the colors and labyrinthine design.
There is a lack of customizations in some area. Another point is that he game could have always used a lot more banter to fill in the exploration and a bit deeper lore presentation.
Not all weapons feel that cool which is to be expected I suppose but I wish there was more variety between the weapons that you are actually going to use for balance purposes.

Anyway i was attracted by the setting of this game and for this price i decided to try it.
The game sadly is a console hard port, and this ends ofc to have no graphic options and controls developed for a joypad in mind, which is the main and prolly only issue of this game for the pc release.
All the options and menus are not pc friendly, but they are not too bad at the end.
Controls are customizable to a point where game is enjoyable, anyway when needed to use ranged weapons aiming is a bit a pain, very imprecise compared to any fps game, but especially when you wanna select multi targets to be hit, you need to press 3 buttons to perform the action which is really far from something logical.
At the end on some fights you are fighting your controls more then the bosses.
Weird that it result quite hard to correctly aim with ranged weapons, which should be the easy part playing with a mouse in theory, but for some reason in this game even if changing settings the controls about it remain quite crap.
Anyway beside the aiming issue playing with a mouse, generally the melee fights are enjoyable, fast, and you can control your toon very well.
The graphics are bit dated, prolly it was not the best even at release, no AA etc, but i have to tell generally the palette, level design and mobs models are nice and got style and personality so its pleasing under this aspect.
Also the cutscenes are appealing and nice to see, the audio is good, voice acting bit better then usual, music nothing impressive but generally nice (the game comes with the soundtrack stand alone as bonus content actually).
Game is very fast peace on combat but its not a hack n' slash fest, you will spend a lot of time solving "puzzles" to go on, there are a good number of hidden "chests" etc to discover.
Some of the puzzles are quite interesting, some are also not so easy to solve if you wanna skip the internet guides and find yourself what to do, but some other goodies are bit weird and non-sense, so about that i can tell as average the puzzle side of the game is quite good and interesting, but sometimes its a bit frustrating or just impossible to figure out if not destroying or trying to interact with every single object present in a level.
The game is linear but the level design is good, most levels are quite big and you are free to roam into them, especially for puzzle solving you will find yourself moving a lot and backtracking is a must in this game, as many areas/rooms are not accessible without items you will find later in the game.
This backtracking actually adds a bit of longevity and its not bad as idea as you will have portals zones in every area to choose where to go instantly, but it can be a bit tedious sometimes.
Weapons have a level up system and can be upgraded during game, also your character will gain new combat moves and abilities / items.
About that i can tell the game requires a bit of grinding cause to level up weapons and especially to gain "credits" to buy upgrades you will need more then once to backtrack and kill a lot of trash mobs which respawns in the old zones, this adds again some longevity but its not very fun after a bit.
At the end im pleased with this game, its fun, combat is overall nice and most of the puzzles are involving, also i consider that ive spent actually less then 10 euros.
Only im complaining to the controls which could have been a lot better without the need of an incredible re-work i guess.
Ive wrote this review mostly cause i think a game like this , with a minor work on the pc release to rework controls (also graphic options but its less important) could have been really another level and its a shame to see most of the games ported in the last years to be hard ported without any upgrade, at the end pc gamers are paying the full price for a new game (at release i mean ofc), so some minor changes / customization to the menu and controls should be included in the porting.

It's not a bad game at all, it just feels as though it tries to appear as though it's more than it is: A basic hack and slash game with a few upgrades. If that's what you want then you can do a lot worse, if you want a 3rd person melee game that does more try Batman Arkham City/Island.

I love action games, especially dark ones, like God of War, Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry. I thought I would like Darksiders too but I was wrong.

Design: The game tried so hard to be badass and funny that I couldn't help but cringe at the cutscenes. Story: Plot is too predictable from the start. Graphics: VERY dated for a 2010 game. I think it is even worse than some 2007 games.

Music: I don't even know it exists.

Control: What a convoluted mess. After hours I still couldn't figure out which button I should press during a battle so I got killed. And I played it with a controller! Not to mention the narrow POV, garbage camera, and on top of that no R3 to centre camera function! Are you kidding me?

The game is not bad if you can ignore the horrible controls though I don't know why I should play it when there are much better action games out there.

Well first storyline was great. Music was great effects gameplay i can say it was good. Only thing i didn't like about the game was that it has no game+. Also some puzzles were boring and fights were let's just say they had overpowered enemies. Either way i liked it. I recommend playing it.

The worst part of this game is rewarding the players for smashing junk. Since "souls" = currency with which to buy upgrades and weapons to achieve the better equipment one is almost required to smash every little object out there. And since when does a derelict automobile have a soul to gather anyway?

This game also tries to mimic the overall game-play of the Soul Reaver series and at that it fails miserably. The game is by no means terrible. But it certainly isn't anything more than barely average.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is like a shiny apple you see in a store, which you buy and start to eat. The first few bites are very delicious - the graphic, the hack-and-slash feeling, the sounds, all feel very nice. But, when you bite deeper you find out a squashed part - in order to master the game, you need to master its controls, and the controls are so numerous, and so poorly ported from console, that they incur a heavy strain on the average player.
Then you bite even deeper - you encounter the first true boss, Tiamat- and you find a rotten part. There is nothing that prepares you for this boss, and the tactics, while very easy conceptually, are just very hard to implement properly. Moreover, if you fail to do proper tactics immediately, it becomes exponentially harder to finish this boss.
Nevertheless, you decide to take one more bite, but you find worms crawling in the deep core of the game. The number of controls one needs to master to advance through the game increases by every "level", and the inability to see the "health" of a boss, or in that sense any indicator that you are doing any damage to the boss, is extremely frustrating ! This is particularly frustrating on the worm boss, where you run in circles, shooting at the boss, for a random amount of time, until the boss falls dead ? This is an insult to any mature player in my opinion.
Overall, this game had a lot of potential, maybe this potential is fulfilled in the console game, but the PC version is just frustrating to play...

You may try and alt tab out of the game to check a walk through but if you do that when you re-enter the game, it will most likely crash to desktop. If you like to collect screenshots go ahead and try, but then you'll crash to desktop. If you like to open up the steam dashboard in game you can give that a go too! Just be ready to crash to desktop. Over all it was a game I could have at least tried to like but the bugs and crashes just tried my patience to much. I don't have much gaming time anymore and I'd much rather use it playing a game that can actually perform on a pc. Expand

A very poorly done port. Horrible controls, no graphics options and crashes constantly. I write this as a warning; do not buy this game.

i dont really like hack and slay games but dark souls was my game of the year.. so i thought i will try this game out it just feels bad to me combat is very boring you just spam your X key xbox controller till the enemy dies you can jump around so you wont get hit but overall it just feels repetetive to me. dark souls for example is known to be hard... but its actually not hard becausei dont really like hack and slay games but dark souls was my game of the year.. so i thought i will try this game out it just feels bad to me combat is very boring you just spam your X key xbox controller till the enemy dies you can jump around so you wont get hit but overall it just feels repetetive to me. dark souls for example is known to be hard... but its actually not hard because every time you die its your fault while in darksiders its just a grindfest of 100 mobs attacking you and you spamming your x and rb key well story: i heard the story would be great and epic but i didnt got hooked by it. maybe some teens will enjoy this more than me. I dont recommend it but if you enjoy grindfest games where you spam 1 key till the end try it out Expand

It was fun at early stages of the game; the hack and slash combat system was great and intense. Then fun quickly diminished with countless platform puzzle solving. Granted, the puzzles weren't hard, but they paused the monster killing spree excitment. And then the story send you back to places you already visited to collect seven shards for story to continue. I collected few shards until I got fed up with this boring-visit-again trick just to add more gameplay hour. My patience ran out and alt+F4 and uninstalled this crap game. Expand

Nordic Games (the developers of this game) basically said: Hey, God of War sold extremely good on Playstation. There is no game like that for other platforms, lets make one to grab some money.
And that's probably it, a very God of War inspired game which feels very unpolished and rushed. The combat system is vastly unsatisfying, as much as is the weapons in this game and upgrades. Boss

Boss Fights are extremely boring if someone is hoping for interesting Boss Battles. Not much creativity in this game, most ideas came from God of War. Furthermore they tried to add some Adventure elements like semi-open world and puzzles which are also unsatisfying and dull. Literally they tried to mix God of War and Zelda.
Lastly the plot, it was merely angels vs demons fight on the third realm called Earth which is populated by humans. And you play as one of the 4 horsemen called War (wow they didn't even tried to mask it as their own game). The cut scenes, voice acting and story telling is one of the worst I have ever seen in a triple A game of the 2010's. Well hopefully the plot gets more interesting by the end of the game, but ruined by the subhumanly bad voice acting & cutscenes. Don't buy this game even if it's on sale, use your money for charity or buy an Indie game instead.
The only ones who can love this game are people who never owned a Playstation or played God of War and other Hack & Slay games exclusive on Playstation.

The term "console port" gets thrown around all too much these days, but in this games case it is completely accurate. This is a console port in all its faded glory, straight from controller to keyboard with little adjustment to gameplay, menu's, maps, inventory screens or even graphics selections and options. If you want to play this game, play it on a console.

This is the worst console port I have ever played. I have not even SEEN the first mob in game because my camera is stuck facing down. I have unplugged one, the other, and BOTH of my USB-360 controllers and still, the camera is stuck. I saw one review that said, "I wish Steam gave refunds." To that, I agree. Expand

Played this expecting something worth my time but I was wrong. Boring linear game play, and almost no character progression, not exactly a recipe for a winner. I wasn't able to play much of it which that in itself says it all. I know some people will say, "how do you know if you didn't even play all the way through." and to that I say, you don't have yourself locked into torturous humanPlayed this expecting something worth my time but I was wrong. PC answer to God of War is not without flaws but the lack of competition on the PC platform makes Darksiders an unconditional winner. Be warned - No fun without a joypad! Forget about playing Darksiders with a keyboard and mouse only. [Issue#197]

Not the most innovative of games, but give Darksiders a go and you'll most likely be pleasantly surprised. [Issue#246, p.106]

Sure, you've seen it all somewhere before, but Darksiders manages to tie together just about every adventure-game idiom and make it all work.
