What do you do when all writing conventions have already been subverted but you want to tell a cohesive story? Well you have to be double subversive, which this game mostly pulls off.     Absoluta maravilla de novela visual y, desde mi punto de vista, el mejor Danganronpa de los tres, perfecciona la mayoría de mecánicas del anterior juego pero no intenta arreglar o cambiar lo que no necesita ser cambiado o arreglado, por lo que la esencia no se pierde.

    La historia tiene algunas cosas malas, particularmente cuando se explica lo que pasa fuera del juego de matar, que es su parte más débil, ya que la historia puede llegar a tener bastantes agujeros de guion con el anterior juego.
    Aun con todo, es un muy buen juego y su protagonista, Hajime Hinata, es el mejor protagonista de Danganronpa, nadie me convencerá de lo contrario.    … Expand

    What it did right?

    - I like the setting.

    - I think the cases themselves were interesting (outside of the trial)
    - The little extras like the pet system were welcome.
    - I feel it was better balanced with free time.

    Where it failed:

    - Mystery games need to follow a internally logical pattern. The first game did (mostly). This did not.
    - The logical issues aren't just limited to the trial (where they're most offensive), but also the gifting system as well.
    - Excessive player annoyances makes for annoyed players. Balance is needed.
    - Very sexist. And gross about it. For the love of god please spend 5 mins in the presence of a woman you didn't pay for.

    Conclusion: If a game is presented as a puzzle/mystery and makes no logical sense (considering the internal logic), it fails at the genre. Being forced to follow a guide because the writer lacks the skills to pull off the heist sours the experience. There should NOT be a need to trial and error your way through the Non-Stop debate portion. The player should be able to reach conclusions using logic and evidence. Trial and error makes the conclusions unsatisfying as you didn't earn them. So I leave this game in the middle-ground. There were things I enjoyed a lot, and things that I hated a lot.     I never thought I would like this as much as the first game but boy was I wrong. The authors are geniuses. Gonna buy the 3rd part for sure.

    Честно говоря, мне эта часть понравилась больше первой, но есть одна маленькая проблема. Разрабы испортили сцены казни, из-за чего мне очень обидно. А так, игра в пару раз голов выше своей предшественницы!

    While its a strong followup to the original game, with more developed characters and well though out mystery. It still suffers from some issues old and new, namely that the whole game feels incredibly padded with mini-games and extensions to create a feel of it being just as long as the first title but with more polish to it.     Overall my favorite game in the series. It has by far the best trials and overall the best twists.

    Even if I prefer the crew from the next game, this game's rival is one of the most intriguing characters in all of video games, a very unique and well thought out personality.     While the twists never reach DRV3's levels of mindblowing insanity, they're the most consistent. They all fit the narrative and improve the overall experience.

    This game is FRICKING awesome. Sequel is recommendable, but in my mind, only for players who has finished the 1st game: "Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc". Just buy it and play :D (review from january 2021)

    The Characters: The characters in danganronpa 2 are great, my favourite characters in the franchise are on it, however the worst characters in the franchise are also on it, some of them are either fantastic or complete garbage, compared to danganronpa 1 where there wasnt any bad characters, everyone had their moment to shine and be a good character, and its own way. this inconsistency in the characters is what takes a bit of the greatness of the game for me, since most of the times you can only really feel encouraged to solve the murders of your friends if you are actually considering them as friends, but characters like Hiyoko Saionji make you feel like even if they have a good story and potentially a good friendship if you are willing to be spend time with them, because of their overall rudeness and overbearing personalities, it just isnt worth the effort, so you say F that character and procede to be less and less attached to the overall cast.

    The Character Designs: They are just as good as danganronpa 1. The designs are full of personality, intriguing, beautiful and maintain and further the ground for new possibilities while asserting that danganronpa style
    The Character Development: that here is one of the problems that would get even worse with Danganronpa V3, id say about half or maybe more get a great development but some characters are either outshined and intentionally dumbed down for no reason whatsoever, characters that just repeat the same quote or just behave the exact same way with no change whatsoever, characters that are completely outshined by fan service, this is a delicate part because the game tries too hard to give justification for the fan service, which just ends up being awkward at the end, specially when the whole development of this character in question is completely destroyed by the fanservice.

    The Gameplay: While there is a significant improvement in the Trial session from Danganronpa 1 to Danganronpa 2, the games are more engaging, less luck or quick thinking and more assembling the right pieces and more inner thinking, which is the right way for a game like this, in the school life the gameplay is significantly worse, i dont know why the game turned into a 2D environment where you can only walk left and right, its definitely the worst aspect of the gameplay, so much so that it has been changed in danganronpa V3, it just takes the feeling of freedom that you had in Danganronpa 1 where you could move freely in the environment, here it feels downgraded and just really bad.

    The Trials: The most important part of any danganronpa game, the trials in this game are still fantastic, however, the mastermind behind each trial is way more predictable than in the first game, while the trials had a huge amount of complexity added to them, the overall mystery of the person who done it is way easier to discover, which ultimately decreases the quality of the trials, it doesnt matter how complex it is, if you still can predict who the blackened is in the first 10 minutes of trial than certainly you didnt do a great job, or at least not a great job as you did in Danganronpa 1.

    The Biggest Danganronpa Problem: While this may seem like a pretty exaggerated title it certaintly stands up for its name, im talking about every single last chapter in the danganronpa franchise, whenever you discover who the mastermind is, this starts a huge, and i mean huge, 3 hours + of info dump on your head, lets not forget that behind that huge info dump after you uncover the mastermind you also have to UNCOVER the mastermind in the first place, so you are already thinking about that, then you have to go to the trial that uncovers the mastermind, and you got my point, its a huge info dump that the game does not prepare you and it is roughly 5-6 hours of complete reading and understanding of the game, which exhausts ANYONE and this UNFORTUNATELY increases with each passing game, the info dump gets longer and well, less interesting.

    Overall Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a phenomenal game, the trials are great, the characters are great, its certaintly a great sequel to Danganronpa 1, the gameplay is way better in the trials and has a lot of improvements, however the game still has a lot of issues, some of it they created it out of nowhere, and some of them who werent issues in the first game but started to become issues in the 2nd and 3rd installments of the series.    … Expand

    Well if you thought no game could out do the first Danganronpa...think again! Again presents a brilliant story that keeps you at the edge of your seat and puzzles that are fun to play and yet make you think. A really good second installment in the series.

    Keeps you on your feet and continues to grow on you as you go on. I remember thinking I could never like this game as much as the first but as I continued it got better and better. This will grow on you.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is the second major installment in the franchise and, in many ways, follows naturally and sequentially in the footsteps ofDanganronpa, as a franchise, is both incredibly nuanced and somewhat formulaic. It defines and breaks cliches and genre norms while acknowledging that it is doing so. The series is very meta and self-aware, sometimes confusingly so. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is the second major installment in the franchise and, in many ways, follows naturally and sequentially in the footsteps of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, most notably the general concept is the same with a few recurring characters and ultimately the same universe. The art style and especially the soundtrack are excellent and fit the personality of the series so well, one that is somewhere between comicality and edginess. Story-wise, Danganronpa 2 is quite ensnaring: while dialogue may be a little stilted at times, the broader arcs and journeys of the characters and the world keep twisting and rewriting expectations.

    As the second game in a series, Danganronpa 2 is almost exclusively an improvement, touching upon QOL and mechanical frustrations of the first game. Despite being a sequel, Danganronpa 2 still works independently from the first game, as no single element is reliant on having played its predecessor. Danganronpa 2 may be a visual novel, but it also offers many other gameplay styles within its bounds. It has shooter elements, a rhythm game, an escape room, and several other mini-games. This constant change in gameplay allows for the gameplay to not feel too stiff but sometimes feeling underdeveloped. Since there are so many different mechanics that fit into the game, the game can often feel overburdened with explanations and tutorials. If there is any particular aspect that the player likes, they will likely not be satisfied, given their smaller presence. The changing gameplay prevents the more niche mechanics from being grown accustomed to or to fully explored. However, this also means that there is likely some mechanic or gameplay element that the player will enjoy. Once the player passes certain checkpoints in the story, alternative game modes are unlocked, some of which are more fleshed out than others. These are ultimately unrewarding, as the player can experience the game to its fullest without them. They make some aspects of the post-game easier but create additional hours of grinding as well. They are inoffensive things in theory but add an unnecessary amount of hassle for those trying to 100% the game.

    Returning to the game's story and ideas, one can't help but admire many of the areas that Danganronpa 2 treads. Each murder and the corresponding trial is incredibly well written and tightly constructed, providing novel settings, lasting impacts, and well-paced setups. Danganronpa is a unique series in that, on the premise, any character could die off at any moment, something the series continues to test. Many of the deaths and the relationships developed within the game feel meaningful, and at least within just this game, there are real stakes at play. Some aspects of the game may seem and feel a little rough around the edges, but narrative-wise, this game is tight. Some complaints have been levied as to how the game tackles its ending and being a sequel. However, I feel that such aspects fit in line with the series' goals and tones.

    The game uses its anime style to both intensify and subdue the drama of events. Even going as far as to imply that in the game's world, our real world is to them what animation is for us. The cut scenes, settings, and models do feel a little janky and slightly off-kilter at first, but with enough time, one learns to love them. The pink blood serves to make things tamer, but it also prevents the series from becoming derailed by trying to emulate real blood in such a non-real circumstance. It is interesting to note, as well, that in-universe, the characters perceive the blood as red, which leads to some questions about color theory and perception in the game's world. Each character has so much personality and thought imbued into their design that it is hard not to become attached to members of the cast, and likely harder when they leave.

    Overall, this game is tight and rewarding. It may get to you, and breaks might be needed, despite how appealing it is to keep playing. Despite its name, Danganronpa 2 can be depressing and quite dismal at times, so much so that it can get to the player, or at least it got to me. I suffered several deep depressive episodes in part because of this game, and such experiences were debilitating and disheartening. After taking some breaks, I returned to the game and found some degree of peace within my former turmoil. This game may have been the catalyst for one of my deep plunges, but it also helped bring me motivation and joy through and through. I recommend this game, even if you haven't played the first or are familiar with the series.    … Expand

They really knocked this game right out of the park. Only negative I would say that they messed up is that if you want to know the whole story then you need to watch Danganronpa 3 Future, Despair, and Hope Arc, so if you'reDanganronpa v2 Is how to you do a sequel. This game has amazing characters, great plot, crazy twists, and continues the game on with the characters from the first game. They really knocked this game right out of the park. Only negative I would say that they messed up is that if you want to know the whole story then you need to watch Danganronpa 3 Future, Despair, and Hope Arc, so if you're not into anime then you might not enjoy that part but if you are then I would 100% recommend this game.

    Better than first game. Characters better then in first game, trials and investigations also. Island as a place for story very good idea, in first game in building was stifling, this like restrict events, actions. Island, sun, warm - this another atmosphere then in first game and I like this.

    The soundtrack is awesome despite being essentially the same from the first game. The graphics are good considering when the game was first released.
    Basically, DR2 ended up being way better than DR 1 in my opinion. The plot has bad moments, but the good ones are so good that I honestly couldn't give it anything below 10. If you liked the first game, I'm sure you'll love this one.    … Expand

    While the plot is interesting and presentation is up to snuff, the characters are a noted step down from the prior game. Cases are pretty good but the emotional weight behind them are also lacking. Found it hard to care about what was happening to the characters. Some minigame additions were annoying and unnecessary.
    Came into this game on a high and left feeling mediocre.

    Even better than the first one. An ambitious game with a great story, unique art style, and excellent music. While it has some of the same issues as the first one with some parts unbalanced with here being much more visual novel than video game and some of the puzzles are not great, it is still a must have for any vita owners. The characters are great and the story is even better than theEven better than the first one. An ambitious game with a great story, unique art style, and excellent music. While it has some of the same issues as the first one with some parts unbalanced with here being much more visual novel than video game and some of the puzzles are not great, it is still a must have for any vita owners. The characters are great and the story is even better than the prequel although I do think the ending to this one is more cheesy.     Danganronpa 2 retains the prequel's theme of characters getting murdered and then having to find the culprit behind their deaths. However, although the story is great, the gameplay is sadly not.

    Essentially, DGR 2 is a really, REALLY slow burn, and I can't say that I recommend it unless you have no better game to play. I wasn't able to get through the game quickly because I'd constantly get bored and have to take breaks. You need to have an insane amount of patience to get through this game.

    Like the prequel, the Class Trials are lackluster and are a total chore to go through. You will also encounter impossible questions that require trial and error instead of logic. Other players gave this game ratings of 10, but that's because they totally pretend that the minigames don't exist. DGR 2 should've provided an option to skip the minigames and it would have made the game so much better.

    In any case, I have to give two ratings for this game. For the story, it's a 9. It's done well enough that it could be its own Hollywood movie. But for the gameplay, it's a 3 or less. The minigames are primitive, confusing, and don't contribute anything but unnecessary game time.

    (Either way, if you beat this game and feel like you want more, don't go straight to playing Danganronpa 3. There is a canon spin-off shooter game and also an anime that comes chronologically before that sequel. Consult Wikipedia for more info.)    … Expand

    Danganronpa 2 faz quase que literalmente tudo melhor que seu antecessor, com exceção apenas a ambientação que não é tão claustrofóbica quanto a do primeiro, e ao "Logic Dive", um mini game durante os julgamentos que na maioria das vezes te entrega respostas óbvias e chega a ser frustrante.     Danganronpa 2 is a sequel adhering to the motto, Don’t change, just improve. Some of the same problem areas are still present, but much has been smoothed out or enhanced for a superior entry over what was already a good first effort.

    Being a visual novel/puzzle game, it might be difficult to recommend to other people, but for fans of Phoenix Wright or Aviary Attorney, this game is right up your alley.
