The graphics are amazing, but the game play is no different than any other FPS released over the last couple of years. Is anyone else getting tired of playing the same game just repackaged and sold as something else?

Looks nice, but other than that it's a generic shooter with a couple of interesting features that are badly implemented. Although the game was obviously rushed, I struggle to imagine what could possibly have prompted such a pathetic ending, which kicks you out of the game just as it looks like it's about to get interesting. Overall I say don't believe the hype. This game is fun but it gets boring very fast. The only thing that stops you from regretting buying it is the awesome map editor it comes with. Expand

Unbelievably, Crytek has not pandered to the console generation crowd. This is a pure PC FPS in the finest tradition of Far Cry, Stalker, Rainbow Six, Half life, and even Doom. The shooting is hard. If you aren't aiming properly you are going to miss at medium-long ranges. That's what's happening with people that claim it takes a whole clip to take down an enemy. Out of every ten rounds wildly sprayed about will 5 actually hit (probably in the legs and arms), and chances are a silencer is being used, and silencers halve the weapon damage at close range and completely eliminating it at long range. If you want to take down soldiers with COD speed, you need to remove your silencer, go prone, and preferably attach a scope. Then switch to single shot and use maximum strength for good measure to steady your aim. Oh yeah and if your target is moving you have to lead to account for the fact the game models bullet travel time. It's a little more complicated than the run and gun you usually see, and I applaud Crytek for including great feeling shooting mechanics. The AI here sets the bar for all other shooters to come. The sense that you are fighting coordinated enemy squads which flank, retreat and lay down suppressive fire is not reviled anywhere else. By comparison the other big FPS released recently doesn't even seem to do anything but suicide rush. Sure there are bugs, but on Delta prepare to be outsmarted and outfought on a fair basis - you never feel the AI is cheating. The suit powers are amazingly well balanced and supremely useful. Using the mouse button menu to switch powers was a stroke of genius. There is nothing like using maximum speed to run up to a soldier, grab him, and use max strength you throw him off a cliff. Pure unadulterated awesome sauce. The linear sections of the endgame perhaps don't have the sense of gameplay innovation that the first 2/3rds do, but this is made up with some incredible environments and enemies which I don't want to spoil. Storywise . . . well it's no HL2 or Stalker, and it never claimed to be. The story is unpretentious, workmanlike and does its job motivating you and keeping you on track. The only other game in recent memory that comes close to Crysis is Stalker, with its open environments and incredible atmosphere. Both are masterpieces, but Stalker's initial bugs hold it back from being my GOTY pick. Ultimately, as others have stated, Crysis like no other game offers you a blank canvas on which you can paint your unique brand of mayhem and destruction. With Crysis your creativity is the limiting factor. Expand

I agree with one comment that the combatants seem a bit too clairvoyant sometimes and can spot and shoot you through thick brush from 100 meters away, but can't seem to find you on the other side of a building. The nanosuit is innovative, but frustrating. The speed boost is perplexingly short and the inadequate amount of charge the suit has makes multitasking with the suit enhancements impossible. The disadvantages implemented for certain advantages are nonsensical. Silencing a weapon makes it ridiculously impotent and is hardly realistic. Running the game is a challenge as well, but the flexibility of the video settings can make for a playable mode for a decent system. For my FX55, 2GB RAM, 8800GTS I run at 1600x1200, no AA, all medium settings and manage only about 15-30 FPS. Running AA at any resolution greatly reduces the framerate. But overall, this game is very addictive and worth the buy, especially considering the rarity of non-linear shooters. Expand

Graphically stunning, more impressively so when taking into account the sweeping vistas beyond the detailed foreground. Compare this with COD4 where the environment is largely urban, the draw distance therefore much shorter. Unfortunately the game does not live up to its true potential on DX9, and is hampered by the recognized performance issues of Vista if running on DX10. Be wary of reviews moaning about graphics issues, render problems etc, on a properly specced, drivered machine, the game runs very clean, surprisingly so. Crysis has the fun of full control of every combat encounter, reminiscent of the potential of Deus Ex 1, well engineered, engaging fire fights (if you choose to play them as such), and finally outstanding eye candy throughout. Graphics are jaw-dropping, gameplay is fluid and satisfying, and the game is actually engaging in the sense that you'll get into your on-screen character's skin and feel the rush of sneaking up to the enemy in complete silence, all senses wide awake. The sound is also unrivalled, with very sharp use of muffling and echo that makes it all totally immersive. I had to pause the game at one particular point : I had just fired a rocket at a distant helicopter from a ledge, jumped down and landed in a small pond. The very moment I went underwater, my teammates' chatter was muted but I could still hear the muffled gunfire and most importantly, the loud rumble of that damn helicopter blowing up. I was constantly relying on sound cues to track enemies and map my surroundings. Finally the game itself flowed gracefully from one scene to the next. It was almost Halo-like in its pace and carefully dosed excitement. I only have one point of criticism and that is the little interlude in the alien ship, floating in a disorienting anti-gravity hell overfilled with annoying jellyfish-like beasties. That part felt very stressful and out of place, but it only made the escape that much more liberating. Overall, it's the most fun I've had in a long time, and the first FPS I've played through in one sitting since Quake 2. Expand

Just massive overhype. As many of the other reviewers said, its pretty, but EVERYTHING else is just plain wrong or bad. The gameplay is lousy, the story is non existent, and there are so many blatant ripoffs of other games in it, that its basically nothing but a showcase for CryTek's artiistic flair. It is open-ended, it can be played in any number of fashions, be it stealth mode, or run and gun, and above all else, it's fun. The story may be cliched, but executed very nicely nonetheless. Really, nothing much different than how HL2, Halo, or any other number of FPS games stories have played out. So if we are going to fault Crysis for that, then get in line and start docking points for the rest of those games too. The AI is something else people may take issue with, but please name me one game, just one game, of this caliber, of this level of technical brilliance, this OPEN-ENDED, that has AI which supercedes this. People can't, and yet they have this unrealistic expectation when it comes to Crysis. I guess that's because it's the most realistic looking game of all time, the best physics of all time, and if I may be so bold, the 5.1 surround sound also sounds very immersive as well, so perhaps the AI may be lacking in light of these other achievements, but even then, it's better than any AI to date for a game of this type/scale.
