Cross Blitz is a beautifully made deck builder that feels not only incredibly inventive, but also mechanically dense, and just very satisfying to sink into. On top of that, the looks are exceptionally charming, the music is good, and the vibes are just on point. If you love a good deckbuilder, then you’ll love this, but the campaign modes also mean that this could be the one that grabs you if you’ve only ever bounced off of others due to the roguelike focus.

Cross Blitz has only gotten better since I first played it in Early Access, improving upon its unique and fun-to-play core mechanics with over five hundred cards and even more ways to play. While the AI can seem to slow down during a match, creating a bit of a tedious drag, it was not enough to prevent my enjoyment of the game, which I easily recommend to anyone looking for a new Slay the Spire type deck builder with its own unique flavor.

Cross Blitz is a deckbuilder with a great look and a cast of fun characters. It’s challenging, and every time you play, creating your own deck makes it feel unique.

Cross Blitz is an RPG deckbuilder with two souls: the narrative mode Fables, structured on a hexagonal map with events and turn-based card battles, and Tusk Tales, a Slay the Spire-style roguelite with branching paths, relics, and permanent upgrades. Combat takes place on eight slots per side, where positioning determines attack and defense trajectories. Mana grows each turn, enabling increasingly powerful play curves. Over five hundred cards, synergistic abilities, distinct archetypes, and variable enemy decks make deck building strategic and highly experimental.

While I’m a bit surprised by the fact Cross Blitz still has more story to tell, I’d also be lying if I said I wasn’t a fan of the game. I had no real familiarity with the developer, Tako Boy Studios, before playing this game, but now I’m definitely a fan. This is a robust, complex and challenging digital card game, and one I’d be happy to play on consoles. Here’s hoping it finds a satisfying way to end this journey sometime very soon.

Cross Blitz delivers a fun and unique card game experience. While there are a few struggles with the difficulty curve, the overall presentation and gameplay are fun and varied, offering lots of replayability. [Early Access Score = 70]

Currently in Early Access, Cross Blitz’s two modes deliver a lot of deckbuilding enjoyment, whether you are tackling the pair of plot lines or the game’s roguelike component. Yes, the sporadic difficulty spikes are vexing as you face foes equipped with commanding cards. Developer Tako Boy wanted to remind us that sporadically, the deck is stacked against us. [Early Access Provisional Score = 78]
