I had the pleasure to play this one with friends and it was lots of fun. Pickens approves and tries to crawl out of his dungeon to find more games.

Crawl is not only a well designed game full of entertainment for a party of four, but it also has such potent style that it stands out from the crowd in every way. Even while it's only in early access, the game could stand as a full release, ripe with content and fluid gameplay.

As it is, here's what our top three elements of Crawl are:

Aesthetics: Not only is it beautiful but the sound design and music is ingenious. It seriously never gets much better than this; the consistency between each aesthetic style is striking, making the player want to stay in as long as they can endure.

Content Diversity: It's fantastic to see so much content already and they're updating it with more by the week. Player advancement leads to many different paths, which allows for a large span of strategies, which in our book is great design.

Game Balance: Even the player that has been in last place has a chance of redemption throughout the entirety of the game. This not only allows for more strategies, but more importantly it allows for every player to have fun regardless of their status in each game.

All in all there's very little that we can say bad about Crawl other than we want to see the finished version. It still runs the risk of losing it's strong game balance with the release of additional content, but we have our hopes that it will remain strong.

    Oh. Em. Gee.

Here is a game that will leave you and your 3 friends in tears and drenched in sweat after just 20 minutes. Pick your deity, upgrade your minions, and murder your friends. The game is easy to pick up, and an absolute pleasure to play.

It's worth 10 for sure even as early access , but let's hope they will add more content and proper multiplayer. I wish for more bosses, currently we only have two and one is in development.

Despite the rather lacklustre name, Crawl isn't your typical dungeon crawler: firstly, you're able to play this with mates on the couch for some local multiplayer and while one of you traipses around the dungeon as the Hero, the other three get to be the monsters you have to fight and the traps you have to dodge. Throw in a whole bunch of monsters to choose from, chilling voice acting and a top-notch soundtrack, and there's a lot to like about this game. Crawl does have minor drawbacks which makes the game a bit difficult for newcomers, but they aren't serious enough to prevent me from recommending this game. Expand

Solid gameplay with several dozen monsters with wildly varying play styles. Human characters likewise have many weapon and equipment choices that greatly impact how one plays their character without encumbering the flow of the game in the slightest.

When engaging in local multiplayer the different aspects come together to form a unique and unrivaled experience that I highly recommend.

The only point of criticism I could possible deliver is that with only 3 different boss monsters with fixed arenas the end game sequence can become a bit repetitive after awhile, but it is a minor point that my gaming group has been able to overcome.

Also the narration and ambient music for this game is A+ and on point.

Pretty much the perfect game to play with two to three friends. More bosses would be welcome but its already filled with unlockable gods, creatures, traps and items and never gets boring.

An intense and pretty game dragged down by repetitiveness and scarcity of bosses. [07/2017, p.62]

It's a good dungeon crawler, but it really shines when played with friends. Together with its remarkable audiovisual presentation, it's a very solid choice.
