Jan 8, 2024Cookie Cutter is a good Metroidvania, elevated by some pretty stellar graphics. Don't expect to walk through this one - the game raises the difficulty in response to your character powering up. A lot of value here for the asking price.

Dec 15, 2023Despite some occasional frustrations, Cookie Cutter is a gory, gorgeous, and bloody good Metroidvania.

Dec 24, 2023Cookie Cutter is a video game made of contrasts. On the one hand we have Cherry, a completely crazy, foul-mouthed, vulgar, violent protagonist, perfectly aware of being a stick of dynamite thrown towards the brutal destruction of all his enemies. On the other hand, there is a virtual world that sometimes can't match the novelty of his protagonist. Net of this we have a very entertaining combat system, with excellent battles against bosses and a good average quality of the design of enemies.

Jan 23, 2024If you are a Metroidvania fan, you can give Cookie Cutter a chance and immerse yourself in its colourful world with plenty of gore. But keep in mind that there are some features that fail in terms of gameplay mechanics.

Feb 5, 2024Cookie Cutter stays true to the tried and tested metroidvania recipe. It does not try to do anything different in that respect, meaning fans of the genre know exactly what to be expecting with the game’s level design and progression. Where Cookie Cutter does stand out is more with its eccentric and loud visual design and fluid animation. Combat is a lot of fun due to how smooth it is. There have been a few melee-focused metroidvanias in the past and Cookie Cutter is a welcome addition to that group, bringing with it a violent and bloody adventure that is full of hi-octane encounters and great platforming controls that make up for the lack of innovation, varied environments and slight frustrations it brings to the genre.

Jan 10, 2024Cookie Cutter is an interesting metroidvania, but with some contrasts. On the one hand we have Cherry, with her vulgar and violent personality, a remarkable artistic section and a varied group of charismatic NPCs. But on the other hand, Subcult Joint's work can't escape the typical tropes of the genre. It is a game that, at the end of the day, is built on the guidelines of a genre that borders on over-exploitation. Even so, it is still a very fun video game that stands out for several reasons. In other words, it is not a perfect or revolutionary title, but it is one that is worth giving a chance.
