Apr 1, 2021I like the idea of creating a title that feels like a less complicated version of Civilization, but it seems easy to create a game that dumbs things down too much. It was hard for me to get immersed in ruling my kingdom in Conqueror 940 AD since the gameplay was so barebones. At times, it almost felt like I was feeling out a spreadsheet rather than ruling a kingdom. It's possible to take something like Crusader Kings 3 and make it more accessible for a general audience, but Conquerer 940 AD's buttons and toggles don't make for an exciting game of political intrigue.

Mar 31, 2021Conqueror 940 AD does have an interesting set up and it is actually quite a bit of fun to watch as the kingdom goes from an empty field to a capable world power. Trading resources and earning money is also a pretty strategic and well made mechanic, but ultimately Conqueror 940 AD is simply too slow without enough to do to make that a more palatable pace of play. All but the most devoted strategy game players will more than likely grow bored quickly, so Conqueror 940 AD remains a recommendation only for those must interested in strategy games as a default.

Jun 1, 2021It feels that the experience is always a small step away from becoming something more stimulating. It has the right ideas, but as a turn-based game, Conqueror 940 AD fails to add the addictive element. After too short a time it becomes predictable and rote, and the player is left with the feeling that the entire game was a wait loop of choices without any truly challenging or dramatic moments.
