The best part about CoH is the attention to detail. Having troops realistically seeking cover, rolling on the ground, having chunks of earth being blown off of the map, it just makes you feel really there.

Another amazing RTS by Relic. I've got a few hundred hours clocked into the game, and still love to play it. It takes a bit to master, but once you do it's insane fun. And to Jon D, a 57mm AT gun would easily pierce the front armor of the Tiger. They are much higher velocity than tank guns. Besides, it's not like the Tiger was armored like a battleship.

I used to love the old close combat series and strategy-wise this game falls short, just another pretty resource management RTS. I watched a Tiger get blown up by frontal hits from an allied anti-tank weapon, I'm sorry but that is not realistic. Absolutely stunning. By far the best RTS I've played in years. Believe the hype, this game delivers. Well balanced, immersive gameplay, interesting new tactical and strategic elements, and it even lives up to the often aspired to but seldom achieved goal of making the action the focus, and not the resource gathering/base building. Do NOT believe the absurd negative reviews (a 1?! Seriously, are you on drugs, or merely bitter?) that some have given. Or at the very least, read them for content. Some thought they were buying yet another WWII first person shooter (as if the world needed another), and others are curmudgeony tabletop gamers who are cranky that the developers took game mechanics and balance into consideration first, and trivial details like the horizontal movment limits of an M-4 Sherman's main gun were secondary. If you need to learn about history, you obviously don't go to an RTS for it (unless you're some sort of idiot). Read a book, or at the very least tune in to a documentary. If you're coming to CoH looking for an outstanding and genre defining real time strategy game...then you've come to the right place! Expand

A great looking RTS game that's somewhat different from a lot of those out there. But still, I'm probably being generous giving it a seven for couple of reasons. But still, I'm probably being generous giving it a seven for couple of reasons. The biggest problem is the micro-management required for a lot of your units, which can be hell in the heat of battle. Guns won't point and fire in the right direction unless you tell them to, while your infantry won't automatically throw those sticky bombs at an enemy tank unless you tell them to--and you have to repeatedly do so--even though their rifles have no visible effect on armour. Locating your units can be a pain too, and since this game limits you to the number of units available more than most RTS do, every unit counts. There are also various niggling problems, like base placement and unit movements. Once my rangers got trapped in a building and couldn't get out - I eventually had to shell the area (and lose half the unit) before they crawled out from the rubble... Tanks also have a nasty habit of running into each other, and that's bad when you're under fire. Enemy's AI rather good, especially with flanking your troops. That would've been great it it weren't for the fact that all this micro-managing really puts you in a disadvantage. And with the opponent in CoH playing quite aggressively, things can get really frustrating at times. Wasn't expecting this to be historically authentic and that proved true, though it didn't really matter to me. Still, wish the game had offered more campaigns rather than just Normandy, and more variety of gameplay as the story unfolds instead of the same old thing over and over. Expand

This is by far the best quality RTS I have ever played. Tons of fun, and the expansion is due this fall!!! The game is available on STEAM now too. If you don't know about STEAM it lets you download the game to any PC at any time, so if you reinstalled your OS or upgraded your PC you don't need to track down those scratched DVD's or anything. Highly recommend CoH!

This is a solid 9. It would have been a 10 if there was the German campaign to defend as well as the American campaign to attack. The graphics, the sound the AI, all is excellent. This is fast paced gaming, A way to find your units just a little quicker would have been welcome, but really, this is the best WWII RTS Game out there by a long long way!

Ok for all of those negative reviews lets get some things straight here... The game is similar to Dawn of War but NOT the same thing. Company of Heroes is a fast paced, intense, TACTICAL game. Dawn of war is more about spamming mass units and attacking in big waves. I tried Faces of War (which people seem to compare Company of Heroes to), it

The gameplay is incredible. For all you people that complained on here previously about not being able to play as the axis...umm there's multiplayer. With custom mods out there that are good overall and fantastic custom maps, the online gameplay will give you and your friends hours and hours of entertainment.

I gave this game an 8 because the graphics, physics, and sound are all awsome, they could not be better, the firefights can be huge and absolutely amazing to watch and play, and the destructible environments only adds to this. The only problem that I had was that you had to do everything, your troops would not act on their own.

My goodness! Everybody is talking about this game being so great and stuff. But for me its not.I Think its overrated. Sure its got some of the best graphics to date, but thats about it. This game cannot beat Starcraft, Warcraft , Warhammer etc... First and foremost, a lot of people is saying that the game is balanced, well of course its balanced! its only got 2 factions for cry'n out loud. Its not going to be hard to balance it out. And they'd get laughed upon if they cant even balance 2 opposing sides. Second, its got no air units which is really disappoining. WW2 involves lots of air battles, and COH doesnt have them? Third, you can only play the Allied campaign, another serious drawback. Fourth, there is only 2 factions, where are the British,Soviets and the Italians? Didnt they play major roles in WW2? Not so realistic as some people say it is. Fifth is that it is very repetetive, I got tired playing it after 2 weeks since you can only play Allies and Axis. And people should be true to them selves and not copy the reviews of others. Some people give the game a high score just because some people have given the the same. Maybe it does deserve a high score but not past 8.3. But I gave it a flat 5 because of the 5 reasons that I've posted here. Actually its 4 + 1 because it does have great sounds. I do love Relics games especially warhammer. But I'm really disappointed at CoH, really... And this is my review of the game. Expand

Neither are CoH's gfx all that good when compared to FoW's nor does the physics based gameplay come EVEN close to that experienced in FoW. All the talk about a great single player campaign is nothing but a mediocre drudge through the same D Day attack and the follow up. The transformation from a idyllic little town into a heap of crushed buildings and burned out husks of vehicles can be shocking. Seeing and hearing major explosions that cause bodies (and bits of bodies) to fly across the screen along with rubble from a nearby building simply puts you more into the battle than any RTS in memory.
