I don`t get it why everybody seems to hate CoH 2. All in all its a good rts and the issues, which are in the game get fixed with the new patches (e.g.: leader-boards, more maps).

    Pros:
+ graphics you need a very good PC to run this on ultra)
    + sound
    + gameplay

    Cons
    - currently only automatch available
    - not

Still a few balancing issues to be sorted i think, and im sure we'll see countless patches like we did for the first one, its not grabbing me like the first one did

My opinion is if you've never played a COH game then get the first one with all the add on's and if youve bought the first one and are a fan of the game then this is just about worth a buy,.

Company of Heroes 2 is an odd game to review. It works really well, but is honestly just a large expansion of one of the best RTS' of all time, Company of Heroes. If you're dying for more COH then this is worth the purchase, if not, spend your money elsewhere.

Excellent game overall. The campaign was fun and brutal with a more appealing story than COH1. Best part about the game so far is the Theater of War mode, which adds even more missions than the campaign with varied gameplay and challenge.

This game is such a great MP game. It is a pity there are only 2 factions to play with, but the gameplay is awesome, everything you expect from a RTS. 4v4 games are just grand.

CoH 2 plays like, and feels like the first one, which I love.
Since it has the same feel and play-style as the first one, I can't help but rate it at least an 8.

However, there are a lot of things I feel that are wrong with the game; I don't think the flaws should impact your decision to buy it.

The game definitely feels incomplete with the lack of sandbags (only conscripts can build sandbags, which have a set size and do not allow you to make a continuous line like barbed wire; They are frustrating to place, and still are difficult to have a squad be completely in hard cover. The Germans have ZERO sandbag emplacements and their only somewhat defensive emplacement is a bunker. The lack of tank traps and sandbags are very aggravating, ESPECIALLY when the game has virtually no natural hard cover (compared to the first one). Oh, and since you can't build tank traps, you can't prevent tanks from destroying your sandbags.

They have done quite a bit of fixing to the balancing of units, but it's not enough to change the fact that Russians are an infantry team, and Germans are an armoured team. The German command trees are terrible, and have ZERO special infantry units.

Snow maps are absolutely terrible, and the whole blizzard thing should be completely redone. It just pauses the game if you go infantry, and since you can't build tank traps, vehicles run over the firepits all the time. They get destroyed too easily and still cost 100 manpower.

The bulletin/perk system is silly, considering 9/10 times, the perks that you'll unlock have virtually no impact on the game. 2% increased accuracy?; completely unnoticeable....especially when you have to play dozens of games to unlock it.

I don't want to rant too much, especially since I started off this review as a rating of 9, then I gradually started realizing more and more flaws with the game.

    HOWEVER...

The game is new, and still has a LOT of time for improvement and perhaps they'll add more emplacements with updates. I'm also excited for when they release some expansion packs, which will hopefully have more units. Despite everything negative I've said about this game, I would still recommend it, and would definitely buy it.

I am extremely happy that relic was brave enough to create the storyline of the game in contrast to what many would expect a simple good vs. evil scheme. I completely cannot agree with those saying that the game is historically incorrect. It is meticulously accurate acknowledging the subtleties of the whole eastern front. It does show courageous and brave Russian who died fighting the Nazi regime the worst of all if anybody needs a comparison. The game’s ending clearly shows that good and honest Russian war-hero-soldier-correspondent survives and is able to tell his story it happens in 1952 a year before Stalin’s death. It is the story of many brave people who died not only from the hands of the Nazi Wehrmaht and SS, but also often due to terrible terror sweeping through Stalin controlled Red Army. It does not mean that Russian war effort is underappreciated everybody knows that it was the Red Army who engaged and defeated the major part of Hitler’s army. It was possible because of their ingenuity and devotion to the cause all portrayed in the game. However, it would be an understatement to say that Stalin’s regime was a lot different to Hitler’s. Both regimes were inhumane in the way they treated human life. I especially appreciate the part with Polish Home Army and Ania the part of WW2 history which is rarely heard of. To conclude, I have to say THANK YOU RELIC (and SEGA) for producing COH2 and for the honest way of dealing with the difficult eastern front subject. I hope that such approach to history will be the only way of retelling it in games in the future. I must admit, though, that it would be nice to see some western front stories narrated in a similar way, as many of them are unpleasantly black and white. Expand

I do not rate games based on their launch, the beauty of PC is the healing virtues of time (think Total War). You must compare this game with COH 1 to understand it the best. I have over 1200 hours logged on the first COH, and as I sit here to write there are so many things that COH 2 does better.

First, it doesn't matter what people say, the graphics are better, with more dynamic physics, albeit on the more arcade style which looks cooler. The HUD is so much more useful allowing much greater control over units and keeping on top of game events macro is easier.

Thank the Lord there are no more micro exploits that ruined the old game (or just made skill gaps crazy). 7 years of the old game got a lot of these vets use to crap like blocking bridges with tank traps and kt carcasses, so yeah that is definitely better. No more cloaked snipers and vehicles spying on your army from behind hedgerows or sneaking in the middle of your troops. If you love cramped and funneled fighting I am sure there will be maps made to bring back the INfamous Hochwald Gap and the Schledt, two of the most unbalanced maps people are hopelessly addicted two from the old game.

The true sight is brilliant and allows for much more creative defensive styles. Also, weather is a nice twist with a dash of realism to spice the game up over the last one.

I mostly hear about how Germans are OP, but I play as the Russians 90% of the time, and I have won over 80% of my matches, so it goes both ways based in skill and luck.

Let us not forget that the original CoH was just the Americans and Wehrmacht, so I expect to see expansion packs in the future.

This game loses score because they have gone absolutely overboard with skins and commander trees to nickel and dime all their customers. Plus the multiplayer has gone the COD route and levels no longer equal skill. The way the lobby operates, you will never know if you are about to get a beat down from a practiced team of friends with mics or face up against noobs. Plus, there is too much dropping and lag issues right now.

Thus I give this game an 8 out of 10, but in two years I expect to give it a 10 out of 10.

BAD: The game lacks content badly, and the new commanders are fairly boring and homogeneous compared to the ones from Company of Heroes 1. Additionally, the use of the same old engine with slightly beefed up graphics has caused a performance dive.

Wait to buy it if you don't have a high-end PC. If you do have one and are hungry for a new RTS to play, it's worth the purchase.

It was smooth, balanced, well crafted, innovative, addictive and downright amazing.

For CoH2, I expected more of the same. Before I played it, I honestly thought Russians were just getting all patriotic and whiny about the plot. After playing most of the campaign, I gotta admit the criticism is well founded. Russians are stereotypical EVIL in this game. It's like a cold war spy movie. The Russian officers gladly kill every surviving solider after a heroic defensive battle, JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT.

Nazis in CoH2 however seem to be good, upstanding citizens - I have yet to see a single nazi war crime in the game. While playing one can only conclude that your guys are fighting for the wrong side. Anyway, story sucks and is written by someone who has no idea what Russia in WWII was all about. Enough about it.

Graphics are pretty, squads work well, campaign maps are well-made. The same features that make CoH special are still there, but newly added features are rather uninteresting. The Russian winter is represented by jumps from bonfire to bonfire. Neither very interesting in terms of game play, nor historically correct: Standing right next to a huge bonfire on the front line of a war where the enemy has artillery and snipers doesn't seem like the best idea to me.

The game is not a bad game - it's relatively fun to play, looks good and never crashed for me. However it fails to add anything, and the story is downright idiotic. More missions have been published as DLC, but I can't say I'm hankering for more of CoH2.

Single player campaign is good, it's not as good as the original game. it's done in the same vein. The multiplayer is where this game really shines - particularly co-op for me personally. With the warspoils updates it's finally got a fair system for getting loot like commanders and skins. Pick this up cheap and get thousands of hours worth of play.

First of all its clear that all the Russians who claim that they never burnt down their own house's during the war, they clearly need to read a real history book not a doctored one about how awesome the soviets are I'm not saying they burned them with people inside but has ANYONE HEARD OF A SCORCHED EARTH POLICY? You know when you deny the enemy vital supplies and positions and defences by destroying farms, homesteads, equipment, roads, rails, telephone lines, you know anything VALUBALE? Its been documented that the Soviets destroyed vast tracts of land to deny the Nazi's anything that they could use against them. It shames me that we are willing to forget the inconvenient parts of history like what happened to the Poles both in the east and west, (yes in the west we didn't include the Poles in the World War II victory parade in London because we were afraid of the Russians in 1946). Its a travesty what happened to the Polish people and the distorted view of history that both this game and the people who have commented here only shows an ignorance to the real facts of World War II. No this is not a pro Nazi-Rant, they didn't get anywhere near what they deserved, but don't sit there and type pro-soviet crap under the guise of the game being pro-Nazi propaganda the game is nothing of the sort. And it personally angers me that the Russians get up on there high horse when they signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler in 1939 then invaded Poland and then Invaded Finland but in 1941 when the Germans invaded acted like they were standing on the moral high ground? But that's lost to history isn't it cant have anyone catching on to it not just being simply Good vs. Bad and nothing else at stake. AND THAT spits in the face of EVERY veteran that served. Remember the lessons they had to die to teach us people. Expand

The game is more arcade than strategy one. As a fan of Combat Mission series and reality in games, this game seems to be an arcade for teenagers, not a strategy game for history passionates.

Company of Heroes 2 is a game with alot of potential. Unfortunately the developers are more interested in bleeding you dry in addon content that does nothing to enrich the game. A poor balance leaves most Russian players wondering why they even bother to sign in. skip this title and save yourself hours of wondering why Relic hates the East.

I'd say yes, content wise CoH was better since by the time CoH2 came out, we had so many expansions/expandalones and mods out there that individuals were left unsatisfied in the end. One thing I do miss was the actual trees in the original CoH which took a bit of thought in response for your opponents actions. A couple of the generals in CoH2 aren't even worth using really.

Now then again me and probably everyone else was thinking it would be great to play as soviets, and as we found out about COH2 it was a really great news. Now when comparing both games you don't need to be a pro in games, all you need to is to play both games, and then you see how bad COH 2 is. It is just bad game, thats all.

First thing when i installed it on my laptop, I was surprised that it was lagging on lowest settings, (even though i can play original COH on medium-high settings) and it looked disgusting.

Second - interface, who created it I do not know, but i know that the team responsible for it probably never even played RTS before, or are completely incompetent when it comes to design, very very amateur work. so much unecessary stuff is cramped on your screen. Cursor animations are horrible, it would suit for 2000s game or so, but not COH, come on.

Comand trees are gone, you have only one choice between three commanders, and then 5 of their abilities (and they do have similar abilities between them, and at least one is completely passive).

Every game feels the same, you have to be completely aggressive all the time.

Anyways most of the things have been explained by other people. Conclusion, I am not recommending this game. It very average game - kind of like a cheap remake, when a crappy company would copy a great and succesful product. Thats what COH2 is to COH. Do not bother buying it, enjoy COH, like I am. Peace

The biggest issue I have with COH2 and SEGA in general as of late is their DLC faction whoring. COH2 has had several pieces of DLC. They released three standalone multiplayer factions.

The issue I have with this is that the US forces cost $10 and then they released Ardennes Assault which was $30 if I am not mistaken. We are getting content sold to us piecemeal as opposed to past expansions which offered a full campaign in addition to factions.

The OKW also released which are still incredibly OP and broken. If you are playing US its damned near impossible to win against the OKW. The US lack any significant means to counter the game breaking King Tiger. In the past COH you had access to a M26 Pershing. But if you want that here? Pay SEGA and Relic to get that. Hell even two Jackson TD's can't destroy a King Tiger. If you want to play a better balanced game play COH 1 with the Blitzkrieg mod or hell even the Eastern Front mod for COH 1 is better balanced.

If you want to play a better balanced game play COH 1 with the Blitzkrieg mod or even the Eastern Front mod for COH 1 is better balanced.

Decent after 4 years of patching, DLC destroys the game and imbalance still present.
Multiplayer crashes and drops still affect the game like coh1. The automatch system still problematic.
Never played much of the campaign, although interesting

Finally, a game that also showcases the true sickening horrors and crimes against humanity done by the communists.

This game shows that during a war, no side has clean hands, but the Germans and Soviets absolutely had the dirtiest hands in all of human history.
This game doesn't pretend the Soviets were a "noble" force of good, it shows that the sick communists were the "better" evil at the time, and to destroy evil sometimes an unholy alliance is needed.

Great game, gritty truthful story, online play is a bit meh, Steam workshop is a savior.

Will not judge the game for the way that it treats soldiers and especially soviets (which is disgusting indeed). About the balance: well germans had better equipment and more experience at the beginning of the war. As a game it is as good as the first and I enjoyed it more cause I was more interested in the eastern warfare.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This game feels like a F2P game in some aspects like you only get 2 factions to play with, germans and russians but the russians seem underpowered compared to germans soo... i guess one viable faction.
The rest are DLC.. the commanders are also behind pay walls, (commanders give different abilities in combat like air strikes, reinforcement and so on..)
This is not a "fine" game by any

This is not a "fine" game by any means, its fun if you have the time to learn the ropes if you want to play multiplayer but if you dont plan to play MP there isnt much here since the story and campaign missions are quite boring and straight out bad. Also theres a lot of controversy about the Russian campaign, I havent looked into it personally but I believe its true.

The game is so chipped cranberry that you won't know if it was the Canadians who made it or the American sons of Sam!

The campaign completely contradicts common sense and logic! Shooting down the NKVD, KGB, AND THE MOST FAMOUS BARRAGE TROOPS! An army that apparently didn't give a damn about its own lands and homeland, and a bunch of other stuff! And yet, I'm sorry of course, but

The campaign completely contradicts common sense and logic! Shooting down the NKVD, KGB, AND THE MOST FAMOUS BARRAGE TROOPS! An army that apparently didn't give a damn about its own lands and homeland, and a bunch of other stuff!

And yet, I'm sorry of course, but maybe I didn't notice, but where is the ELEMENTARY OPPORTUNITY to order the troops to lie down, and crawl without shooting, in everything that moves? I sent fighters to the rear of the enemy, I thought everything was OK, I probably already went to the camp, and then I look, and they died.... running to the goal in full growth, and shooting (as can be seen from the replay) at the enemies passing by)

The graphics are good in principle, but still feel like a Man of War, but with stripped-down mechanics.

But the network component, I was a little amused, but the players came across normal.

AND THE MOST INCOMPREHENSIBLE THING is that when you start the game, and exit it, the Language icon in the Taskbar disappears, and the language changes! You have to go to the Windows 10 settings > Language, and there put it in English, and then in Russian....

And yes! I was offended by the game)! Thank you, developers, for what I saw, perhaps my grandfather, who burned his own fellow citizens in the villages))!

    7.5/10 good, recommended*** ( 2021 September )

    Pros:
+Single-player Campaign ingnoring the story is enjoyable including the DLC Ardennes Campaign.
+Multiplayer is fun IF you get a balanced game with no leavers/teamkillers/afk players.
    +Music
    +Sound effects
    +Voice Acting
    +Voice Lines
    +Unit models (mostly vehicles)
    +Visuals
    +"Truesight system"
+UI (could be a little bit better but still good)
    +Customisable Vehicle skins
    +Winter/Summer map themes
+Winter weather gameplay effects (frozen river-> destroy ice under vehicle-> vehicle goes diving forever)
    +5 different playable factions (2 axis (1 basegame, 1 DLC), 3 allied (1 basegame, 2 DLC))
    +Steamworkshop (Modding)
    +Co-Op maps
+Can buy some of the DLC items without spending money just by playing (but at a slow rate)
    +Matchmaking (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 / PvP, PvE)
    +Leaderboards

    Cons:
-The game is now officialy abandoned by the developers. Balancing is done by the "balance team" (forum warriors/streamers)
    -Balance (FUBAR)
Multiplayer was left in sadly in an unbalanced state. Overall the game is balanced around VOCAL forum posters and steamers. Allied infantry squads generally have more members, also have the best indirect fire and support weapons. Assuming equal skill if you are new or want easier and more forgiving games play as allied, but if you want a challenge play as axis.
    -one shot squad/unit wipe mechanics
    -disconnecting players (common)
    -leaver players (common)
    -teamkiller players (uncommon)
    -afk players (rare)
    -crashes (rare)
    -sync error (very rare)
-few maps (not all maps available in matchmaking)
-bugs (some not fixed since alpha, rare example: your unit becomes uncontrollable)
-main menu performace issues (pcgaming wiki has a workaround)
-ingame performance issues (pcgaming wiki has a workaround)
-***overpriced (only recommended when at least 75% off sale or more)
    -many DLC-s
-pay to win elements (content locked behind paywall)
-no Co-Op campaign, no custom campaigns
    -No LAN
    -No Direct Connect
Neutral: RNG (shots sometimes miss, or in case of vehicles does not deal damage)

Having played the original for 7 long years I must say that it has to be the longest, continuously played game of my life. 2 succeeding PC builds always had it installed. I had my doubts with Relic but this one is A-OK. The gameplay is not as unpredictable and as positively protracted as the first which takes away a little bit of excitement but you still get loads of fun, explosions and other good stuff in its place. Let's hope the patches improve the balance just a bit more as the high population count of units is an issue. I don't think all the negative reviews accurately portray this still good game so don't let the naysayers discourage you. If you want a very good RTS, this is definitely worth your time and money.

This game presents the history of the Soviet Union as it was. The USSR was an occupation and carried out genocide of its own and foreign peoples both before and after the war. In Russia, they do not teach history and rewrite it instead. It's so good that now Ukraine is denazifying Russia. As we can see, in the new war, the tactics of meat assaults have not changed.

It is more strategic and with reduced population cap, requires you to make a decision on what units you want to make up your army. You can't have everything. This requires you play strategically. Instead of simply overwhelming your opponent when you are ahead. Best RTS of all time even better than the original. After 7 years this game is still getting balance patches and updates to keep it fresh and fun! Ive been playing this game almost everyday for the past 7 years. And 6 years of COH1 before that. Expand

Unfortunately CH2 is a brutal downgrade with the previous game, the campaign is horrible and doesn't even bring immersiveness and impact as brought by the company of heroes 1. The Command Selection( CH1 ) was much better than what the devs decided to put in the game, they just let me down in that aspect and didn't make the game more complicated they made the game more tiring because of the amount of times you'll have to farm xp to receive "boxes" to unlock those perks that you will use in battle and in my view this all worked because they just wanted to focus on Online.
We in the game have two military divisions one nazi and one soviet completely useless compared to "dlcs" they bring to unlock campaigns and in this again the company of heroes 2 fails completely. This only served to extort money on the strength of the company of heroes fans. You have a store built into the game to buy "skins" for your units. "pls kill me" The units that DLCS offer are Overpower that shouldn't have been "dlc's" but the base of the game, the campaign itself is very poorly crafted.
There are many other negative points in the game that leave something to be desired, it even makes me want to buy the company of heroes 1 bundle again. But I have the only positive point that at least you can play with a friend or against a friend, it's the only positive thing this game has. Because the Multiplayer of Company of heroes 1 was much more complicated to access or connect to the servers because of the trash application they were using at the time.

Relic Entertainment cleared the hurdle the original game set as far as I'm concerned. Tweaking, remoulding and teasing out the underlying systems of the original, and then layering things like cold weather, may not set the world on fire like the original Company of Heroes did but it's still a solid strategy game and with the right support and continued release of content I can see it living on for quite some time.

Everything its predecessor was: an intense and enjoyable RTS that gives you the feeling of really being an armchair general. It is just unfortunate that after waiting so long for a sequel, it doesn't offer too much in the way of innovation.
