Pretty amazing darn sp campaign, my only gripe is that again Relic manages to paint Soviets as bad ish while the Germans are the victims (It may very well have been true during the German retreat and when finally mas produced t34/84s started kicking the germans butt) but it was ze Germans who broke a peace treaty and attacked Russia and Killed god knows how many at first) but that asidePretty amazing darn sp campaign, my only gripe is that again Relic manages to paint Soviets as bad ish while the Germans are the victims (It may very well have been true during the German retreat and when finally mas produced t34/84s started kicking the germans butt) but it was ze Germans who broke a peace treaty and attacked Russia and Killed god knows how many at first) but that aside the game is indeed a very good sp rts experience... very funnily enough it reminded of playing warcraft 3 and frozen throne while playing it...... maybe my brain is experiencing glitches :0 Expand

Again the effort that is has gone into making this is significant. Relic have much to be proud of.
This is a single player struggle- and i mean struggle for once you are concerned about every soldier lost as it will effect you going forward. Although there are ways around it the games save system is rigid and designed to enforce discipline. This is not a game for simple impatient types-

This an old fashion struggle for real strategy gamers.

The game itself, is a good strategic rts. You do not build a ton of units and swarm an enemy base, you use cover and fight meter by meter gaining ground to push to the enemy base. This xpack added a conquest style map system, reminiscent of the dune 2 planetary map where you could select your missions.

I would give this an 8 out of 10 if not for Relics shameful dlc grab. Lots of dlc,

I would give this an 8 out of 10 if not for Relics shameful dlc grab. Lots of dlc, albiet not required, it is still something to consider. I got the xpack, on sale for 15 dollars, and it was worth about that price. Its not bad but its not "Great". The dlc grab is really turning me off but I love the game. CoH1, DoW2, and CoH2 are all good games.

Unbelievable. I just got the Ardennes Assault DLC to COH2 for sale today, and right after the tutorial, I'm faced with the options of selecting 3 of 4 commanders to START the campaign. The 4th commander is a $5 DLC purchase. Are you kidding me Sega? DLC within DLC!?!

Don't buy this $44 DLC unless it's on a massive sale.

Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault for me it's a great come back and I'm sure COH fan's will be happy with this game returning, My only complaint is it with sega I feel they are getting greedy for the prices of game and dlc's.

At first the game was brilliant (i'm talking about the beta), but then after playing the game where the Soviets were portrayed as the evil ones in the war and the poor Germans against them really made me hate the game. Goebbels would be proud...
I was still willing to give the multiplayer a chance, but that failed me too due to the lack of balance and constant buffing some type of German

I was still willing to give the multiplayer a chance, but that failed me too due to the lack of balance and constant buffing some type of German soldiers or vehicles. But that's not it. The DLCs that are game changing are really unbalanced. They are overpriced and overpowered.
This game is a complete disappointment for me and many other Company of Heroes fans. Don't buy this unless its on 80% off or you know history well.

Relic continues polishing and clarifying his great jewel and it is the turn to the campaign mode. After successive expansions, DLCs and contributions from the community, it is hard to believe that they will get a surprise.

After playing the first Company of Heroes and really enjoying it I purchased the second version expecting big things.

The first game seemed to nail the allowable zoom so that it could be played like a strategy but the second is only focused on zooming in as far as possible so you can relieve yourself to the level of detail the designers went to looking at the sky and trees and the snow falling. This makes your units more like a series of linked first person shooters stitched together in the map operating independently of each other to create an unplayable Frankenstein monster of a strategy game.

The structures seemed to look better in the first i.e. the HQ for one and the units deploy from the place where you expect as opposed to wandering on from any number of positions on the map only delaying deployment further.

Adding more playable countries sounded great but it actually made the game more confusing as allot of the options in the first were removed such as the snipers, tank traps and machine gun emplacements which were key in holding territories. This just made me more frustrated as the zoom was so far in its impossible to move your troops in a meaningful way to use them as a replacement to the original defences.

The new game map is tacky and overly colourful and the transition button is non existent in some campaign's.

I would have been more happy to have just purchase a multi-player map update for the first than to have paid money for this piece of crap which seems to have in every way possible made a beta version which pales by comparison to the first and yet I still desperately want to find a reason to like it but unfortunately I find playability to be of paramount importance and level of detail should come second in strategy games.

This was my pick for favorite game in the last half of 2014. Simply unbelievable in its difficulty, execution and replayability. It's not for those who like their hand held or "on-rails" games.

If you are into RTS campaigns against the computer then this is for you. Don't despair as it will slap you hard for even trying to play a little bit safe. Risk is rewarded and often a huge

Great strategic action, made better by the addition of an open campaign. Some tutorials would have been nice. [Issue#257, p.71]

I really doubted the single player campaign in CoH2 could surprise me in any way, but the introduction of the strategic map made Ardennes Assault worthy of even being sold as a separate game. I’m impressed. [01/2015, p.56]

This new addition costs as much as the core game and lacks multiplayer, but if you're happy stomping AI then the long, rewarding campaign will see you right. [Feb 2015, p.79]
