    In its launch the game has innumerable errors and bugs, clearly not finished. They have ruined a classic censoring symbols and flags. The study does not allow refund for pre purchases made on the Kalypso website.

    Textures aren't remastered by hand, but simply upscaled with an AI-model, probably ESRGAN. On the one hand, AI provides astonishing results, and this game is probably the first commercial one, that totally relies on this feature. Therefore they should give the open source authors more credit. On the other hand, you can easily spot the artifacts of this method: washed out/unreadable text onTextures aren't remastered by hand, but simply upscaled with an AI-model, probably ESRGAN. On the one hand, AI provides astonishing results, and this game is probably the first commercial one, that totally relies on this feature. Therefore they should give the open source authors more credit. On the other hand, you can easily spot the artifacts of this method: washed out/unreadable text on posters etc, problems with transparancy, homogeneous hatchings, frayed edges and general look like an oil-painting. Unfortunately combined with the other issues already mentioned by other reviewers the overall impression is not good at all. I remember that the "no sound" bug was already in the original version, so I suppose they kept most of the source base. An outdated source code architecture could also explain the constant fps drops. 5 points because your budget is low, i really love this game and i suppose your intentions were good.… Expand

    I won't speak about the absurd censorship but the game itself, how could it has so many bugs? Characters not responding, audio missing, black square appearing around some lights, etc...
    I was waiting for this game and I'm so disappointed, I wish I could have a refund.

    not a remake but a rethinking
    same bugs, same problems
    do not advice to waste your money on that, better play original Commandos 2 with mods.

Even more a pity it is how there are even more bugs and glitches than in the original commandos 2 version, more censorship and overall a more worse playing experience than the original one. In the third mission I was compromised. A lot of enemies came. Game startedThere I was, extremely hopeful for a remaster with upgraded graphics as Commandos 2 has a link to a nostalgian youth for me.     OMFG the field of view is terrible. While the resolution in the HD Remaster is better than in the original, the field of view is retarded. At first I thought the game's default zoom setting was 100% zoomed-in, but no, this was maximum zoom-out. LOL.

    In the HD Remaster you can see about 0.1% of the entire map, while in the original version made a million years ago you can see a much    OMFG the field of view is terrible.     I don't remember seeing so many bugs in any of my videogames before. And I've only done 3 main missions so far. There are visual bugs, there are bugs in gameplay, there are few things I'm used used to do in original game, but can't do anymore. There has been few crashes as well.

    Other thing is the overwhelming censorship in this game that is really disappointing. Not only swastikas, but    I don't remember seeing so many bugs in any of my videogames before. And I've only done 3 main missions so far. There are visual bugs, there are bugs in gameplay, there are few things I'm used used to do in original game, but can't do anymore. There has been few crashes as well.

    Other thing is the overwhelming censorship in this game that is really disappointing. Not only swastikas, but japanese rising sun symbols are censored too. It is a game based on real history - how does it make any sense to censor history? It's absurd!

    And at last, the game seems to be not optimized well. It's basically 20 year old game with new skins but it takes ages to load the main menu and load to the game. Loading quicksaves takes less time though.

    Don't get me wrong, It is playable, but you would get far better gaming experience playing the original game.

    I really wish that dev's would fix the game and lose the ridiculous censorship over time, but my hopes aren't too high.    … Expand

    What is the shameful censorship? Where are the symbols of Nazi Germany? Where are the burning bodies? What a disgraceful thing it is to follow tolerant trends!!! a huge number of bugs. It feels like the developers forgot that this game could only be popular among people who remember the original game

    Whitewashing history deserves no credit. Especially as the original game didn't and there were plenty more people directly affected by the Nazis around back when that game came out too, and none of them found the game offensive.

    I do not tolerate any sort of censorship. And this is history here, why are you trying to hide it? There's no excuses to it. NO TOLERANCE FOR CENSORSHIP.

    Don't buy this crap, if you want a "commandos" game go buy "Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun", it's awesome.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This release is an abomination, imagine you are going to the cinema and viewing an old restored movie about WWII. Hitler moustache has been shaved, the Swastikas have been erased, and people when killed don't bleed, is like watching a Teletubbies show, all because it has been censored, to reach political correctness, this is completely absurd, this is not the game I did like when I was Kid.     Do not censor games. Just don't. HD Remastering should not just mean a retexturing of a game. Would have been great to actually fix some of the problems and introduce new optional features. So many good examples out there. Also, DO NOT CENSOR GAMES.

    Pathetic remaster. Poor graphics, poor animations, tons of bugs and censorships. Don't buy this piece of garbage, you are better off with the original version.

    ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE remaster of otherwise amazing game. March 2022 and the game is still beyond broken, with some horrible gamebreaking bugs. Just to list a few:

    1. Game crashes frequently when trying to quickload a save 2. Characters float around when trying to use aim + shoot while moving. Once my commando even teleported outside the map boundaries and couldnt get him back. Had to    ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE remaster of otherwise amazing game. March 2022 and the game is still beyond broken, with some horrible gamebreaking bugs. Just to list a few:

    1. Game crashes frequently when trying to quickload a save
    2. Characters float around when trying to use aim + shoot while moving. Once my commando even teleported outside the map boundaries and couldnt get him back. Had to reload save and game crashed.
    3. Characters getting stuck in vehicles with no way of getting them out.
    4. Tanks not able to shoot, even they should be able to. Even game tells you that you can shoot in tank.
    5. Enemy corpses standing in T position instead of lying dead on the ground.
    6. Controls are a mess.
    7. In Mission 2, after clearing entire map of enemies and doing all objectives, the door to imprisoned allied captain was bugged and couldnt open it. Had to restart the mission and lost an HOUR of game progress.
    8. In Mission 3, my character got stuck in a baloon, had to get him killed to get him out of there (what a joke!!!)

    There is even a typo in a trophy/achievement!!! "TRAGET" BURMA instead of TARGET. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!! Horrible remaster, just a cashgrab. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    … Expand

    Is a shame this went out like this, the new looks is bad and does not improve much to justify the purchase.
    But the most annoying part of this version is the censorship. They butcher an old game with the excuse of "not encourage racism", I mean the WW2 ended up 75 years ago, and they cannot show the historical accuracy they displayed in the original version?

    Commandos 2 HD has had a fresh lick of paint and a nice polish but that's about it. It would have been nice to bring something new to the table in terms additional missions or new commandos. In today's world of video games, It just does not hold up against its peers. I do look forward to the planned 3rd installment they have mentioned. This is also due out on consoles in spring 2020 and hopefully, this title will have more modern bells and whistles attached to make it more appealing.
