The simplest way to put this is: if you enjoyed Portal and would like more logic puzzles — and don’t mind swapping your portal gun for a paint gun — then this is likely to be right up your alley. Some elements are a bit more threatening than Portal (i.e., foes that will pursue you), but they can be stopped reasonably easily (at least for a moment). The narration also provides an amusing overarching story, which is a nice little addition. Certainly worth a play if you enjoy puzzle games and like the vibe of Portal.

ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard builds on its Portal-inspired foundation with clever, color-based puzzle design and strong level construction. The minimalist narrative stays out of the way, letting the mechanics take center stage, and that’s where the game truly shines. While visual variety is limited and checkpoint placement could be more forgiving, the core gameplay loop remains engaging and rewarding. For fans of first-person puzzle games, it’s an easy recommendation.

Overall, the puzzles are clever, increasingly challenging, and packed with humor and personality. Yes, ChromaGun 2 Dye Hard takes a page out of the Portal handbook, but it does it respectfully well.

Does it ever come close to matching Portal? Obviously not. But it doesn’t need to, either. Chromagun 2 may not do a whole lot new, but the fact that so many other games are out there now that are also copying Portal makes that easier to forgive.

ChromaGun 2 is a little overstuffed at times, but the central puzzle mechanic is good fun and mostly results in well-thought-out puzzles.
