Don't get me wrong, I played it for five hours yesterday and I had a blast. I turned everything up to ultra and I only noticed frame drops twice, and then just for a tenth of a second. The guns look awesome, the environment is fantastic, draw distance is fine, all the models look really good. I really really enjoyed it, but I'm not going to play it again until they fix it.

The issue is they really didn't look at any of the systems that VR is providing that people like. They've implemented a ton of stuff that's just bad:1) If you want push to move (like you play on a monitor) you can only walk directly in the way you are staring. Which is really stupid. No strafing, no backpedaling, nothing. The direction you move should be tied to the direction you point with your left hand.2) You can only teleport somewhere you can see. On the screen, no strafing, no backpedaling. No sideways, nothing.3) Hit detection with the environment is terrible, it would be impossible to play with just teleport (because you can't teleport to a ton of places) and impossible to play with just move, because you can't change levels or Jump.4) You can't use Move + Teleport, or Move + Jump because they use the same stick... holding move makes you move, which messes up your teleport/jumping target. For instance, the the first area there's a gun chest on top of the building with the shield vendor in it. It proved impossible to get to that chest using ANY of the choices for movement. 5) Targeting is terrible. There are no scopes, at all. I got a sniper rifle that was nearly 99% accurate and placed the recticle on a marauders head. The open space between the lines is the variable area in which the bullet should land. I filled that area with his head, and had head overlapping on all sides. Bang, Miss. Over and over. Maybe one in three or four connects. You could argue that it's hipfire, but that should be represented in the reticle. Also it seemed like a lot of guns fired consistently high and to the left.
6) With your movement and targeting so crappy, the monsters should absolutely murder you. But no. They're still one headshot from a sniper rifle away from death... but you are a God. Unless you get surrounded by four Bullymongs you hardly ever use your shield. And if you crouch behind something you're nearly invincible. Ground zero grenade doesn't even drop my shield. I died twice in five hours and I was completely screwing around. The berserker melee guys might as well be pelting you with wet noodles.7) By far the weirdest thing, and it's something I've never seen in any video game ever. The buttons move around. Grenade was right hand B button, until I got my robot, then grenade was right hand A button. Until I got my bullet time, then grenade was on b again, and robot was trackpad and right grip. There were also buttons that did multiple things. Left hand B was bullet time and options menu on press, inventory screen on hold. Note: this is even worse than it sounds. And you cannot remap any of the buttons, and you get a total of two options. And both suck.
So. The game is great... I'm going to play a ton of it. But it's completely busted. Maybe in Dec?… Expand
