    I really wanted to love Big Hops, since it’s clearly made by folks who share my fondness for the 3D platformer genre. But while that passion has birthed a terrific moveset, Big Hops is ultimately a selection of great mechanics in search of a tighter, more focused game.

    Big Hops features excellently designed core systems, but ultimately doesn’t do enough to truly motivate players to keep going. If you’re here purely for flashy 3D platforming, you’ll have a great time hopping through cozy, colorful environments, but those seeking tight level design, a compelling narrative, or long-term depth will hear a less pleasant croak. In the end, it’s a very typical debut 3D platformer, brimming with potential and clear learning moments for Luckshot Games.

    Big Hops has plenty to celebrate and reasons to check it out, but it is also worth remembering that it's quite the traditional and familiar 3D platformer in many respects.

    Big Hops’ influences are obvious, but the way that it builds on them is what makes the game special.
