Where the game shines is in its siege warfare tactics and deformable terrain. These elements add enough flavor to the gameplay that fans will find the game an enjoyable romp both online and offline.
-
The heroes are interesting, the story entertaining, and the battles get adrenaline pumping.
-
The game's built-in zerg rush prevention is refreshing and invites strategic creativity, but the pathfinding (and the formation-breaking aggression) bring it right back down to earth. There are so many other places to go for your RTS jones that it's difficult to look past the aggravations.
-
Uninspired design, however, keeps this title firmly lodged in the B-class of RTSs. [Aug 2004, p.106]
-
Play MagazineIronically, some of the most enjoyable levels were the sub-missions, where just your heroes and a small band of troops must crawl through monster-infested caverns. [July 2004, p.75]
-
Primal tries to interest gamers with its Viking and fortress theme, but without smooth camera controls and decent pathfinding, the effort feels a bit wasted.
-
Computer Games MagazineWhat makes the name so highly appropriate...is the constant assault that the game wages on your patience and sanity. [Sept 2004, p.68]
