Single player is full of incorrect facts, example being the heavy water production in Norway, why couldn’t DICEEA just follow the proper historical events? That would be so much better.
I was so looking forward to the heavy water mission, playing the role of Norwegian heroes, boy what a disappointment.
Instead we play the role of ONE girl called Solveig, who take on a whole German army

I was so looking forward to the heavy water mission, playing the role of Norwegian heroes, boy what a disappointment.
Instead we play the role of ONE girl called Solveig, who take on a whole German army by herself. Seems DICE and EA wants to change history because of "Political correctness", it’s sad and weak. It would be like they made a game with flat earth.
In single player the gameplay feels like your common DoomWolfensteinDukenukem or any other first-person shooter gameplay from 1990s-2010s, where you solo a bunch of stuff yourself, simply boring.
Also, what’s with the damn voices? Why on earth do we have to listen to a foreign language? It’s not like I’m going to read damn subtitles while I’m in a firefight!
However, the major player base is going to play multiplayer, so that might be the reason why single player is such a mess.

Multiplayer is ok, not much to say really, it’s same as before with a little more BF3 feel. However, the classes should be a bit more balanced, seems medic has a huge disadvantage over long range combat maps at the moment.
Rumor has it that BF 5 has a matchmaking system and is supposed to balance players? If so, that is very good, it isn’t fun meeting a team of players who play videogames as a job, just imagine racing a F1 driver...And since the last patch multiplayer has been an enjoyment, with good balance, hope it lasts.
I don’t understand the complaint that there are female characters however, you could just choose not to play as one, but yeah, their screams are a bit annoying.

The customizing of your weapons is poorly implemented. Cosmetic unlocks that don't impact the performance of the gun? Why have them in the game?!

Strange netcode makes it feel like you're getting hit by a wall of enemy fire, while from their perspective, they're hitting you with a long, sustained rifle burst to take you down. It makes for an odd experience.

    Lots of bugs.

For a AAA game, this game sure doesn't live up to it.

The game is devoid of content and starving for more big maps. Suppression effect is gone which negates the whole machine gunner/support class except for being a moving bullet dispenser.

The only positives are 3D-spotting is kept to a minimum, graphics and sound are great and fortifications are awesome.

To EA/Dice’s credit - technically the game runs fine, looks good enough and plays like a fast BF game - more CoD like but in a bad way.

Long time BF fan, disappointed by the art and design direction Dice has chosen to follow.

There's not even a report button in the game! The only other title where I saw more hackers than on this Battlefield was GTA V.

It should be noted though that the negative scores (2.9 average as of November 2021) are representative of the state of the game upon release, where the initial maps were quite bad (as in different from previous WWII games) and some people were angry because there were women in game (go figure). The current state of the game is pretty much on the same level as Battlefield 1 which has a 7.1 average user score.

-Battle Royale muerto.

Shooting mechanics are polished and rewarding. Visually, the game is good. Far Cry 5 is better looking and runs a whole lot better

Shooting mechanics are polished and rewarding. Visually, the game is good. Far Cry 5 is better looking and runs a whole lot better (although that's a different beast, being singleplayer/co-op). Just saying.

A proper single-player campaign is extremely important to me. Battlefield has never had a genuinely amazing one. The stupid war stories of BF1 and BFV are dreadful stealth missions that follow a pattern for each segment. It's repetitive and half-assed. I found 2D sprites for trees on one level, and I assume those kinds of cheap shortcuts were used in all the levels. The singleplayer is pointless, but it shouldn't be! They could have made it robust and unique. The cinematic capabilities of their engine are obvious, but wasted here. It's all about pushing that yearly title and getting those pre-orders. EA, you suck real bad.

The multiplayer is still at 64-players. Squad is at 80 players, and may be pushing to 100-player servers. The maps feel empty a lot of the time to me. Just a big cat and mouse mess. They did put in some game-modes that establish a front line. That is essential to promote objective-based teamplay. Good job there. I had fun in the Grand Operations! The good news is there are no DLCs. The bad news is by the time they release enough content to have a full game, it'll be time for the next release and everyone will abandon BFV!

We have to get out of this yearly release schedule. The fans will be excited to play a game as good as BF3 for a few years while DICE develops a complete product for 3 years or so.

    Good ☻
Visually.. good.. not much improvement over BF1. Brighter color palette
Gameplay is clean and rewarding for the most part

Performance problems. Very CPU intensive game, no my computer is not a "potato."
Basically no single-player. It's so bad that it might as well not be there.
No story, just little made up PC culture mini stories presented poorly
    PC culture invaded the game
    Bad marketing
Incomplete game upon release. Next cycle will render any updates in 2019 pointless because another game will be coming out and BFV will be abandoned
Historically makes no sense and ignores all the big, well-known battles. They made up "lesser-known" stories to try and be unique. Just give us D-Day in Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Siege of Stalingrad, and even the Pacific theater with the crisp modern visuals and audio.

Same BF gameplay since BF3, epic graphics @ Nvidia GF RTX but I give it a score of no more than four out of ten for all that marxist BS they served in terms of the story. One simply does not mess with the essence and facts of WW2. They even included Marx portraits ingame. The DICE developers should get a serious treatment before its too late for them.

Battlefield V is unfinished, broken, and lacks any and all vision. Mechanically it's a leap in the right direction and an improvement upon its predecessors. Mechanically it's a leap in the right direction and an improvement upon its predecessors. Gun game, animations, and the general feel and control are all visibly the best the franchise has seen, but that's about as far as the improvements stretch. Visually this game looks incredible on PC, and was designed from the ground up to utilize Nvidia's RTX technology. The problem is that when scaled to consoles, BFV is a clear visible step backwards compared to BF1. Lighting is almost broken, since it's either too bright or too dark, and everything has a sort of overexposure look to it that makes visibility a hassle and nothing short of rage inducing. Shadows are basically a wormhole into the dark abyss, and enemies sitting two feet away are seemingly invisible. Recent updates made this slightly better, but your mileage may very. Overall, the LODs are also noticeably less detailed on console compared to BF1, with muddy textures and steady pop in that both deceives and distracts you. You'll proceed to engage enemies, only to find that they were behind cover that hadn't rendered in yet upon getting closer. Vegetation also looks bad, not decent, not mediocre, literally terrible. Trees and bushes use mesh patterns, and a lot of the time trees won't render fully. Vegetation also takes a sort of blocky 2D appearance at range.

The single player experience on BFV is a souless heap of **** with paper thin, shallow characters that aren't developed to any capacity to make you care about them, and they're accompanied by terrible, cringe worthy writing and typical war cliches. The gameplay doesn't get much better, since most missions revolve around you using one man army like stealth tactics around an open area, completing fetch or destroy objectives while taking out seemingly mindless AI.

Multiplayer is just a giant meh-fest of lost potential. There's a great game somewhere lost in this experience, but its muddled by bugs, lack of content, and forgettable maps. Weapon and class balance is at the worst the franchise has seen, and that's not the result of a faster TTK. Hit detection, server performance, and overall netcode are also subpar, with consoles only featuring 30Hz servers, There's no custom servers, no RSP, and the customization is rather shallow, which leads into my next point below in the next paragraph. This is the only game I've played where I'll steadily deal 130-150 damage on an enemy, only for him to magically 1 frame me. People only have 100 health, but you can sponge 150+ damage into them and still get killed in a single frame by them. It's broken, and the recent "fixes" didn't fix anything. This game is just a mess.

BFV has the worst progression system of any shooter I've played. The in-game economy is just God awful, and everything is an unnecessary grind. There's very little meaningful customization, and what is there is mostly aesthetic. Unlocking the same couple of skins for each weapon requires a constant grind of tedious assignments like "kill 10 enemies in 1 life while attacking objectives while shooting from the hip", along with a general side objective like "get 60 kills" or "deal 2000 damage". What does this unlock? Why, a muzzle, or a stock, and a muzzle or a stock in one color no less. To unlock full sets, you need to keep completing samey tedious assignments. To add insult to injury, the max level cap is just level 50. Compare that to BF1's base 100 or BF4's 140, and you get my point. The amount of company count, BFV's in-game currency you unlock is very minuscule as well, and unlocking items as small as a grip cost 1500cc on the low end, which is comical. No doubt this is so EA can inject microtransactions or collect on the premium sale of coin. Things like complete outfits, which STILL require tedious assignments to even unlock cost upwards of 15,000cc. You get my point, progression sucks.

Combined Arms is a travesty and a huge embarrassment to DICE as a studio. It's go here and kill these people co-op on multiplayer maps with mindless bots that sponge bullets and magically 1 hit you. It's dull, mindless, and I don't understand why it was ever even delayed to begin with. Funnier yet, the cutscenes have sound bugs or appear blurry leading into the missions, which is just further lack of polish on a feature that was delayed 3 months; pitiful.

Overall, this game is bad. It's agenda pushing single player experience is dull with no soul, the multiplayer is broken, unfinished, starving of content, bug filled, and lacking of any polish, and the co-op is literally just a huge "f@ck you" and cherry on top of this whole ****ty experience.

I love Battlefield, but it's sad to see such a pathetic low after so many highs. What the hell went wrong?

Single shot riles are massively under powered. For example: You can shoot an enemy with a bolt action rifle 3 times in the chest and not kill them. I've had similar situations with head shots.

Scopes light you up like a Christmas Tree. The moment you look down your sight, every person facing your direction can see you a mile away. Totally defeats the point of stealth.

Grenades do nothing. You might as well be throwing pineapples.

Lots of aspects of the game are still unfinished.

Painting your weapon... just why? Stupid idea.

You cant change the past but sure can lie about it for you're own politically motivated agenda thats Dice's new moto, if featuring woman so prominently on the front lines of WW2 when it was almost entirely made up of men is not enough, then rewriting history so that the bravery and actions of 2 commandos squads is completely cut out of an historic military operation so all their work is shown to be done by a single girl up against hundreds of German solders, this is just disgusting taking creative liberties is a common practice to help fit the story being told around a movie, game or a book, but the changes made would be like saying the Normandy landing where lead by woman which we all know is not true.

Visually the game is as great as Battlefield 1 and plays very much the same except multiplayer has had many changes to create more of a general challenge to normal playstyles, while creating a more of a demand for squad diversity of classes to succeed.

Don't buy this game so you don't fund companies who call their fan base 'uneducated' for pointing out the obvious lies, women didn't server on the front lines in anywhere near the number of men that were fighting and they certainly didn't let men or woman with prophetic arms fight and those handicapped people with missing arms certainly couldn't fire rifles effectively so they would be a liability, and DICE say its 'authentic'.

I have been a huge fan of the Battlefield series since the original Battlefield 1942. Despite the liberties taken with WW1, BF1 was hugely fun and had awesome atmosphere, tone, and look to it. Battlefield V is a game that has had a huge amount of work put into it, and it looks good, it's just been pushed in the wrong direction.

The gameplay and graphics, while pretty objectively good in a vacuum, looks and feels extremely 'cartoony' because of certain choices with the gameplay mechanics, and visuals, the overly saturated colors. Little things in the visuals really bother me because you see them in front of you constantly. Their fictionalized military emblems they plaster everywhere is practically condescending. I need a stylized, completely made up ‘minimalist’ Union Jack inspired logo painted on all my guns when I play as the British? For what? So I don't forget which team I'm on? My character constantly 'looks at' "ammo" magazines in game that have yellow bullet silhouette graphics painted on them so I don't forget 'this is ammo'? This doesn't feel like Battlefield nor a game for gamers. This feels and looks almost like an oversaturated and condescending mobile phone game or Fortnight.

The fortifications building ability is a neat idea but again it doesn't feel like Battlefield, it feels like I'm playing Minecraft.
Also the spawn menu map is too 'messy' and 'busy' and I dislike the new color and design choices. BF1 pretty much nailed how a spawn menu should look, crisp and easy to make quick decisions.

While I can understand them wanting to avoid the arguably overused classic battle scenarios of WWII such as Omaha Beach, they should have realized that the last time some of us played these was perhaps over a decade ago with some of the original COD, MOH, and Battlefield games. I would have very gladly welcomed the chance to experience these classic battles once again in Battlefield style with a kickass modern day game engine. A huge opportunity was wasted here.

The shoehorning of 'politically correct' elements of the game was pushed way too far as evidenced by the over the top reveal trailer, and the developer's subsequent comments and disrespect for the core audience of the game. In addition to this they didn't even stand their ground and instead backpedaled somewhat on their aggressive PC agenda. This shows they listened to some of the criticism they received and made some adjustments, but not enough.

EA/Dice also haven’t done enough to address cheating in their games. BF1 after being out for well over 2 years now, still suffers from rampant cheating (especially on servers in Asia). I don’t recall encountering and cheating while playing BFV, but I’ve read reports that the exact same sort of cheating that still goes on in BF1 is already happening in BFV. I don’t understand exactly how it all works, but there has to be a better way of dealing with it. Fairfight seems to help somewhat but it isn’t enough.
Aside from the fact that EA/Dice’s could do more, I’m shocked at the stats I see on some servers, with messages sometimes stating something like 30 people have been banned in the last 24 hours, and that’s only the ones that are caught by Fairfight. This seems to be the biggest problem in Asia (where I play).

I will give EA/Dice big kudos for the player and weapon customization they implemented into the game, it's along the lines of what I had always thought they were going to do in BF1 but never did. That's about the most positive thing I can say for the game. It's still not enough to save it though...

It is with great sorrow that I sadly won't be purchasing this game after trying it out on Origin Premium Access. The game looks and feels like COD crossed with Fortnight with a little Minecraft mixed in, a far cry from what I expect a Battlefield game to be. I'll stick with Battlefield 1 for now. Disappointed.

I don't hate women and I don't mind them being int the game but this makes me pissed how non accurate and shoved in this is, permanently in every tank there is a women for now cuz I just sold my game to someone and don't know about the update yet, this has come to the point I found Cod WW2 a game I disliked became better, I'm not a Nazi, yet they mention a swastika and don't show it, either don't mention it like CoD or show the accuracy.

Now to the Gameplay I've been bothered by LOTS of bugs and some parts of gameplay are **** , Single player feels more free choice on one only but basically all are terrible, this is too much much of a generic large battle shooter.

Even though I'm not in the the military or a WW2 veteran, this game is just disrespectful.

I love Battlefield games and it has always been my favorite online shooter franchise, but in the recent years the quality of these games have dropped dramatically. I blame the EA for this quality drop, because they don't give DICE enough time to develop their games, but instead they're forced to put out one new game each year. 1 year is simply not enough to make a good, high quality game and its showing here in the Battlefield 5.

These are the words Im hearing since release of this game and after 10 hour trial I will tell you one thing: These are sweet little lies.

    Best Battlefield?

Objectively no but if you havent played previous BF titles probably you will be impressed about destruction, vehicles, classes and other many many things BF is known for.
BF:V compared to previous BF has less content at launch, less weapons (weapons copied from BF1 arent counting in overall) and majority of things that DICE was advertising (Battle Royale for example) will come in March (almost 5 months after release!).
In this "best Battlefield" game vehicles are trash. If you were dreaming about destroying enemy team with mighty Tiger tank you will be dissapointed. Tanks are paper made and the only way to survive in them is camping because assault soldier equiped with panzerfaust will destroy you pretty fast before you will escape.
Medic class is now useless because now every squadmate (not teammate - keep that in mind) can revive you and its killing the whole idea of this class. The worse thing is that now you can keep small medkit for bad moments and you dont need medic for this because you can pick up it from supply station or just spawn with it.
Big ammo and medic boxes are useless, Its not filled with limited count of ammo pouches but with only one. When somebody will take ammo from this everybody else need to wait in line for new ammo to spawn..... no words. Faster way to refill ammo is just asking someone to drop you ammo pouch. Boxes are waste of time.

    "Most tactical and hardcore BF"
    "Teamplay focused"

No, no, no, no. No matter how people who dont know how BF looked before 2010 will be repeating this heresies it still wont be tactical as BF2 or 2142. BF:V hasnt commander mode, hasnt enchanced order system, has only 4 player squads (its too little, BF2 haD 6 and even BF1 which is named as casual had 5 person squads!).
Remember good old times when you were under heavy fire and your squad leader asked commander for artillery support or doing the sabotage in enemy base by destroying his artillery or UAV as special ops? That was tactical and teambased game. "V" is not even close to this with only "attack" or "defend" order and V1 rocket falling from the sky. If for you teamplay is just sprinting with some random people from flag to flag which we had in BF3, BF4 and BF1 you probably believed in game marketing.
Ah, I forgot about some stupid mechanic in game that breaks balancing. When some team is losing its getting capture flag time buff and its tickets will be bleeding slower.... no words. Once I had game when we were losing 100-400 and we won 0-70! *another game praising opinion*

Hardcore? I can say only "maybe". We are living in times where when game has things like weapon recoil or faster TTK than Overwatch is instantly called hardcore xD
I like weapon recoil in this game but we have problem - with red dot sights (in WW2 lulz) recoil is smaller and even handless person can control it. With iron sights weapon is harder to control.
The second thing wrong with this are red dot sights in World War 2 game. I know that this technology was used during this war in planes but facts are facts and these sights were introduced for infantry in late 80s. The only reason they are in BF:V is making the aiming easier and *profanity* casual.
Faster TTK was good idea but in BFV its very bad cause broken TTD, You die too fast. When you start to taking hits its impossible to do anything because you die in a second. No possibility to find out from where enemy is shooting. Game feels like CoD now....
Here is no 3D spotting which is the greatest thing in this game. But wait. Spotting now is completely gone! Only sniper can now spot with his periscope or flare gun. You cannot spot enemy tank as regular soldier to warn you teammates because spot will not appear on minimap. Teamplay focused as hell...

Now some cries about WW2 and overall war athmosphere feeling.
Do you remember epic operations in BF1? Do you remember when DICE said about GREAT OPERATIONS in BFV? Yeah? Now imagine BF1 without epic charges after taking sector, without epic music, epic miracle wins with armored train or blimp. These are grand operations in BFV. No feeling of "great" in this.
Game hasnt athmosphere of WW2. Its soulless and sometimes they are almost putting political correctness in your mouth.... it even not feels like war anymore. The militaristic feel that we can remember from previous BF titles flies away... now its something similiar to Fortnite (cause of battle royale mechanics and neuter customisation without authentic uniforms and insignias). Im not even writing about things like women in airborne troops because other people wrote enough about this

Overall I can say that Battlefield V is not Battlefield anymore.... EA and DICE killed it completely.

The same is true after pressing quit. The game is stuck at a black loading screen for a minute.

I've tried everything I found on the internet, but nothing solved it.

The game functions more like Call of Duty than Battlefield with focus on on-foot twitch-shooting rather than tactics and vehicles. That makes the game very shallow and not what I've looked forwards in a Battlefield game.

Dice started trend towards CoD-like features in BF1 but this is where they went all in with it. I'm also pissed off that EA gave some people who paid for it a significant head start in multiplayer. Weapons are often too powerful and should be rebalanced. Maps design is not quite what I've come to expect and like in Battlefield games such as Bad Company 2 and infantry clearly has the advantage in BFV where as vehicles and planes suffer. Distances are quite small sometimes as a result.

Furthermore historical revisionism in this game is just mind boggling. Especially when we consider that Dice and EA are marketing the game as "historically accurate" and "window to the unseen and untold stories of WW2". Had they actually done that it would have featured e.g. German, Finnish, Italian or Japanese perspective to the WW2 which could have been interesting.

Instead we now see e.g. 15 year girl act as a replacement to a squad of Norwegian commandos, depiction of British soldiers who volunteered for SBS as lowly criminals and French army as highly incompetent and racist (through e.g. "bigotry of low expectations" and "not giving deserved recognition") towards their colonial volunteer infantry from West Africa. This all is just ridiculous and washes away the actual valuable contributions of e.g. women who worked as nurses and or at ammunition factories.

From technical perspective this is the prettiest Battlefield game up to date. It sounds good (although I must add that voice acting in this game especially for Germans is quite bad and cartoonish) and runs mostly right apart from the continuing issues of DirectX 12 renderer. I'd like to see Vulkan API support in Frostbite engine and thus in future Battlefield games. There are some bugs but nothing in the scale of BF4 when that game launched. I wasn't able to test the RTX features.

Technical mastery doesn't save poor gameplay, poor writing which pushes far-left talking points and identity politics, lack of content, bad PR with the community, and just the fact that this isn't very exciting Battlefield game. Despite promises to show something new and interesting BFV just doesn't do anything significantly different than previous Battlefield games. People are better off playing Battlefield 3, 4, 1 and/or Bad Company 2 which are mostly bug fixed and have more interesting content and gameplay options.

DICE has clearly lost their way, and I don't think EA is all to blame - There are game play decisions that simply don't make sense. BF as we knew it is completely dead. This is a mix up of the worst of BF and COD in one package.

Its an cheap rip-off from operations in BF1, that deliverd so much more satisfaction! Break-through is definitely the most intens. Its like rush, but then with much less objectives.

All because EA is pushing DICE to make a microtransaction delivery system, not a real substantial game that the fans will enjoy. It's a real shame because you can still see the passion some people at DICE are pouring into the game. It shines through the cracks of the **** plastered front EA has covered DICE with.

Go play Apex Legends if you want a well made, well-executed game. Sure it's not an epic historical shooter, but god damn it's so much better than what Battlefield provides currently. Play it now while you still have time, before the corruption of EA kills that too.

Man, I tried to like this game...I tried so hard but i'm sad to say, its garbage, complette and utter garbage.

Let's start with immersion and maps. Or I should rather say lack of immersion.
This just doesnt FEEL like a WW2 battlefield. It feels generic bordering on absurd sometimes.
Take the skins for example, nothing knocks you out of immersion faster than getting killed by a guy that looks like he came straight out of phantom of the opera. Or the steampunk like gasmask skins...they're just ridiculous. And dont even get me started on running into a japanese woman on provence ... i mean, come on, its just absurd. Im not expecting 100% historical accuracy from a battlefield game. BF1 did this right, it felt authentic and real. The maps are just bland, there are a couple of good ones but none are really memorable. The only one that really stands out is Iwo Jima, that ones amazing but everything else is garbage. Its a damn WW2 shooter, give us WW2 location not these nondescript generic locations nobody cares about.

Next up the clunky menu and "progression", more absurdity.
Every tank for every single faction has a different progression tree. So you may level your Tiger Tank specs to max but still sit at 1 for the Churchill. Not to mention the vehicle progression creating a SERIOUS handicap for new players. You run into somebody with the exact same tank and engage in 1v1 you will loose and theres nothing you can do about it except run. This, to some extent, also holds true for infantry.
The customization is super clunky just like the entire menu system.

    Gunplay
Oh gunplay...What baffles me about BF5 is how they could get it so utterly wrong after achieving almost perfection in BF1. The guns in BF5 feel like paintball guns. That starts with the sound and ends with the damage they do. They just dont feel right, or powerful.

    Planes
Lets get one thing straight, planes in BF1 were OP as hell, against a competent pilot the only thing that could get him out of the sky was another competent pilot in a fighter. going 50-1 in the attack plane was way too easy. That being said, in BF5 they went the exact opposite way where planes just feel like a total joke. Again, they lack gravitas and just dont feel impactful. And the planes are where the progression system hurts most, the difference between a fully specced plane and one without specs is tremendous and makes for an extremely frustrating experience for new players.

Overall it feels like a design by committee game where they took some ideas that somebody thought were a good idea on paper and just threw them together and came up with this mess, I doesnt feel like a passion project but more along the lines of "OK, EA says we have to make another battlefield now so might as well get to it". I'm not even gonna get into the whole "alternate" history thing...

Maybe for the next one DICE/EA should actually listen to the gamers and not the managers who try to pander to a crowd that wont play the game to begin with.

Funny annecdote here, i havent played a CoD game since World at War but the combat in warzone actually feels a lot more battlefield like than BF5 does, try wrapping your head around that.

Gun play is awful, most weapons in the game feels the same, behave in same manner - be it machine gun or machine pistol. Except semi-auto/bolt-action stuff they all do no damage past 30 meters, yet accurate as laser beams and have almost to no recoil. What the hell, DICE? And my personal favorite is the scopes, 3x looks ok and not out of place, but come on, collimator sights and holo?

Balance is completely busted, aircraft is dominating everything and you do not even need a shred of skill to kill someone with it, game now spot targets for you to bomb, very convenient, and the only reliable way to shoot it down is another plane.
Same goes with tanks, the only way to kill them is explosive charges or another tank, since grenade launchers are useless. You can also try stationary defence guns to take vehicles out, but they will probably shoot you first.
Maps were never a strong side of battlefield games for me, though there is a handful of good maps in each game, but i don't like any in this game at all, i play only large game modes and it seems maps were designed with only conquest mode in mind, they are not balanced in other modes at all. They look really great, but terrible to play on.
I have nothing to say about sound in this game, it's great, but not it's enough to make this game good.
We have incompetent developers who do not know what are they doing and which auditory their managers are targeting with their game, combine that with bugs which they are slow or unlikely to fix, and with each update introducing more of them, sometimes experience breaking (like you can't unlock anything and get credits from ranking up), how can anyone like that mess? DICE is steadily declining and quality of their games too. I can't rate it high, this is sub-par quality product, even after a year since release.

There were a lot of women involved in helping in WW2 but not actionally fighting. If you make a fictional game or a modern game it is awesome to have representation in the game but since Battlefield is focused more on realism they managed to ruin the immersion after playing a while. Of course they also managed to mess up uniforms. They added ridiculous uniforms as payed content along the way. This also managed to ruin immersion a lot. Battlefield used to be realistic and immersive. Now I feel it is pretty much the same game as the competition. There were also lots of bugs and there is a very small difference between BF1 and BFV. I feel they redid the menus, player skins, added a few maps and a couple of single player missions (which are total garbage compared to BF1) and sell it as a new game. They did the same thing they do every year with FIFA. All of the above would have been fine if they would have kept their promises to build this game as a platform. The Soviet Union (I'm not a fan of Soviets, quite the opposite, but I'm being objective here) had the most casualties (both military and civilians) and they were and integral part in winning the European war but they aren't even part of this game. They gave us a shell of a game, not historically accurate, a lot of unfulfilled promises and a big bag of bugs to endure. For all of the above this gets a 3/10 in my book. Expand

Over all the game feels like its early access and doesn't even look anywhere completed. For a sad excuse of a early access game that they claim as a fully finished project the state of the game is horrible.

The game is super buggy. I found myself being stuck between pebbles and broken terrain ad having to re-deploy. There were game modes that bugged out and would never end. The netcode took a step backwards compared to BF1. The menus are an absolute mess, requiring you to go back and forth, clicking on this and that. Even the in game “quit” button still does not work, a known problem from BF1.

I will admit that the game sounds, graphics and visuals are amazing. The actual gameplay is a decent step forward. But at the end of the day, it is still a mess. I keep asking myself, why does EA keep making the same mistakes over and over.

It changes historical battles/missions just to be 'politically correct' which is ridiculous when they could've included women in realistic true to history roles & made it much more immersive & gritty. The game feels & is incomplete, with barely any content coming to the game in future. The game has far too many reused assests & has really no feeling of ww2. This game screams missed potential.

Edit: modifying my original review to provide more detail on my opinion based on level 25, most of that time spent playing support.

    What's great:
The environments look fantastic. Sounds are amazing. I enjoy the new fortification mechanic for the support class building, though it largely seems unnecessary and at times can be a hindrance to your team.

    What's annoying:
Going prone seems to have changed somehow. Now instead of your character simply resting on the ground wherever you plop down, your character model interacts with the environment. This means that in times of frenetic action, flinging yourself to the ground can place you in greater danger as your body might slide unexpectedly or the environment may push your prone body for several seconds requiring you to wait that additional time before you can open fire. This same collision mechanic can affect you while moving around on uneven surfaces while prone and you can find yourself being 'shoved' about by unseen forces at the most inopportune times. Best case scenario the shoving restricts your ability to deploy a bipod or even return fire and worst case you can be shoved off edges of surfaces entirely resulting more exposure to danger.

The shared weapon pool between all factions also rubs me the wrong way. I can appreciate the argument that it is 'no fun' to not be able to work on unlocking and progressing your desired weapon, and that in the actual events it wasn't unheard of for enemy weapons to be 'captured' and used. Unfortunately it's just another small ding to the immersion that the franchise once offered. Personally I would much rather face off against foes wielding the weapons they would have been issued for the era.

Another issue that I have with the weapons is the lack of interesting weapons and weapon specializations. Each class sports a single iconic WW2 weapon a the end of the class progression chain, however the amount of time needed to unlock that single weapon is quite long. I've been playing nightly since the Origin Premium access launch and have yet to unlock the MG42 even after spending all of my time playing as support.

    Single Player:
Oh boy, what happened here? I was surprised to discover that the Wehrmacht possessed cloaking devices during WW2. How on earth did they lose the war with this kind of technology? On every map enemy infantry appear and vanish repeatedly, bounce up and down as though they are sporting some kind of rocket equipped footwear and operate vehicles while in stealth mode. I burst into uncontrollable laughter the first time a troop transport blew by me with no driver, then stopped abruptly and dumped out a dozen german soldiers who milled about the back of the truck while my AI compatriots and I mowed them down like cattle.

    Overall:
It just feels, off. Battlefield 1, while not my favorite entry in the franchise at least felt cohesive and appropriate for the time it attempted to represent, the abundance of automatic weapons notwithstanding. This time around however, I don't really feel like I'm anywhere in particular. There is no obvious anchor to WW2 here based on what we have come to expect from a WW2 game and that is what I think bothers me most. All of the dings to cohesiveness, from the random and sometimes inappropriate uniforms, the shared weapon access between factions, to the lack of emotional connection to the settings depicted amount to something that feels more like a game with WW1-WW2 weaponry rather than a game set in WW2.

    Disclaimer:

Artists, you did a great job. This game looks and sounds fantastic. Developers, I'm sure you did your best given the time you were allotted. It's unfortunate this didn't get more time to bake, it could have been great.

Singleplayer as multiplayer feel wrong and somewhat unrealistic due to constant things that are in the wrong place and feel wrong. I feel like they take the word historic as serious as in their last games: not the least bit. They didn't try out something, they made it a bland Battlething (insert random number) puked out by dice.

    Singleplayer:
Weapons that don't belong on a certain battlefield or theatre of war at all are combined with unrealistic war stories that grandfather made up.
You are left alone in a somewhat open level with enemies all over the place that somehow thought it was wise to build weapon caches all around the map and don't even guard them at all. You can stealth, wich is mostly somewhat boring or you can shoot your way through wich is also kind of bland since it feels like playing an arena shooter with bots. There is no smart or good use of scripting to shake things up or make some missions more interesting. And the alone part bothers me, except for some special cases wars were not won by one man commandos, wars were won by platoons of soldiers taking objectives. The story snippets are nice and some are inspired by certain historic events that may have happened...but I think people wich really have fought there would be unhappy with how it's told.

    Multiplayer:
Battliefield finally somewhat feels like the thing Dice wants it to be: another COD game. It's fast and you need to constantly be on the move otherwise you will die. Teamplay is seldom really there and you don't really need it, they patched that out with Battlefield 3 I guess. I hoped that the voice chat would make the game a bit more about teamplay, but it is only used to yell at your teammates or to troll with horrible music. The game is riddled with bugs. i kind of hated most shooters that tried to implement weaponresting for their unreliabilities with that feature. I was surprised that Dice had their problems with it also, and it has cost me my life countless times. And I wouldn't have a problem if girls or people that really feel like girls could play female characters, but I find it confusing to see that 50% of the team is composed of females. There may have been woman in the war, some even fighting, but....next stop Battlefield 6 - weird panzer girls anime ****

The campaign is bugged throughout and is not accurate at all. I could not progress in Nordlys because the second mission simply would not load; all I got was a bluish white snowy abyss around which I could move my camera, complete with the health bar and the BF1 bayonet permanently stuck to the HUD. The cutscenes run unstably at 30 FPS, and I have a GTX 1070 as well as an i9. As for historical accuracy, there is none. Apparently a Norwegian lone skier completed Operation Gunnerside all by her lonesome. This is not even to mention that the USSR is not even in the vanilla version of the game, although apperently it will be added as a DLC much like the Russian Empire in BF1. Also I saw people saying that "This is the way DICE envision WW2, they purposefully made small stories without large battles,". But I do not want small stories. I want at least some large battles with hundreds of soldiers running around. From the campaign, it seems that the way DICE envisions WW2 is that it was some small conflict in which effectively infiltrators and partisans won the war. If DICE really wanted to create an alternate appearance to WW2 , then they should have marketed like Battlefield 2142, not as a realistic game like BF1. But I do have to give them the due respect, that they will allow a campaign for the opposite side, something which was not done in BF1. We will just have to wait and see what will happen with that.
I have not played multiplayer as much as I wanted to because of how bland it became. The maps are not even comparable in size or structure to those in BF1. The gunplay is essentially like that of COD. The bolt action rifles are useless on some maps along with SLRs. They did add better gameplay mechanics, like greater squad integration, building fortifications, and realistic responses to nearby explosions, such as the shock wave knocking you over momentarily. I also am not against the customisation options of the soldiers, like allowing people to play as women, even though these things in general seem to have been initiated by some "progressives" and SJWs. On a side note I honestly do not understand why people do not like being allowed to play as women; in BF1 you were forced to play as a woman if you wanted to be a rifleman for the Russian Empire and no one said anything then.
But these cool things do not change the fact that each class has about 5 weapons to chose from. I have yet to encounter bugs in the multiplayer side of things, but I have heard people have experienced them there too.
All in all for an apparently complete AAA game price, we get an incomplete and deficient shooter. Maybe one day we will get to see it in its full glory, but I would expect this to take months to remedy, or longer if DICE are stubborn enough with their politicised views. I do not even know what happened to DICE. BF1 had its problems at launch, but they were not nearly as bad as this.

What disappointed me the most were the guns in the game. There are very few of them to begin with (one of my favorite bf game was bf4 that had almost 80 guns at launch, this game had like 30), and missing some of the most iconic WWII weapons. There's also very little customization---not for the benefit of realism, because in the game you can slap a nydar shotgun sight on almost every rifle or smg, like that was a normal thing back in the day. How about porting the barrel, tuning the recoil spring and bolt for faster or slower cyclic rate, trading rpm for recoil etc. People have been chopping barrels and stocks, attaching diy wooden foregrips, extended magazines or making semiauto handguns fully automatic since the great depression days, just look at John Dillenger's full auto 1911 in 38 super, it was criminally awesome. but none of these cool stuff was in a game that should have them for the sake of gameplay while maintaining realism. Instead they were just too busy putting micro transaction and cosmetics in the game like that could count towards having content. Expand

So I just played through BFV operation Nordlys, and it is a steaming pile of **** Firstly I fell down what looked like 50-75 meters and landed on solid ice, but that's okay because I'm wearing skis, which means that I can't take damage from falling. Then i try to stealthily complete the mission which went well until the game decided that this was not a stealth mission by announcing my presence through a cut scene.
Then the game tells me to follow my mother which it forces me to do since i cant run, crouch or anything else to make it more immersive.
I also have to destroy some power transformers or whatever, and these come with a self destruct lever, how user friendly. No TNT, no grenades nothing, just a lever.
Then I get casually thrown of a bridge and it bruises my chin a little bit, what is this pile of garbage.

The hypothermia system is also garbage. The devs have not put in the effort to make her clothes look wet after falling in the river, what is this?

I do like the game but this mission has completely destroyed all immersion I might hope to have.

Weapons like the MG42 did actual damage and was accurate (like its supposed to) while you were using a bipod.

Now, a few upadates later, the game is completely ruined. Guns feel like peashooters. The damage is horrible and make the game unplayable for me. You can get killed while using an bipod on a LMG by a greasegun or sten from long distance while shooting your entire ammo at them. It makes no sense at all. Not only LMG's have this problem, Nearly every weapon that should do a fair amount of damage (like the STG for example) are wortheless.

Until this is fixed and you don't need an entire magazine to kill someone, stay away from this game.

You would think after BF1 making a similar WW2 game would have been a no-brainer. Apparently it was EA and Dice who lacked any form of higher brain functions.

It’s far from being ideal but all the glitches and shortcomings don’t ruin the overall fun of Battlefield V’s multiplayer experience. Although the single player portion of the game is not bad at all, I would have been disappointed if I bought the game just for it. [13/2018, p.56]

In Battlefield V we got back to WW2, but with refined gunplay and death system which works great. There are also little problems such as low number of maps and stability issues, that are taking the fun away, but nothing that can't be fixed.

A great World War II shooter that will grow and improve. Do not buy the game because of its singleplayer, but if you consider the campaign a bonus to the multiplayer, you will be satisfied. [Issue#291]
