Only the diehards will appreciate the detail and complexity, while the rest of us only see the flaws.
-
No other game to date comes this close to replicating what it would be like to explore a truly seamless universe.
-
Its got its flaws and it's share of bugs, but being able to have free reign almost cancels them out.
-
If I found myself completely without a life, with hours and hours on my hands with nothing else to do, then the universe of BCM would be a great escape.
-
One of the most interesting gameplay experiences in recent memory. If you enjoy freeform play in a universe where you're just one of many players, it's worth a look.
-
Computer Gaming WorldA game you'll probably either love or loathe. [Apr 2002, p.104]
-
PC GamerIts incredible depth certainly nets the game some major kudos, but there's a serious caveat in the near absence of any structured gameplay. [Dec 2001, p.100]
-
Tends to be dry, unpolished, buggy, and difficult to learn. It's a game that reaches for the stars, gets well underway, and yet in the end only makes it as far as the moon.
-
If you are, in fact, able to stomach the lack of atmosphere, master the interface and make your way through the lulls in gameplay there is plenty of gaming muscle here, assuming you have the imagination (and the patience) to explore the game's wide range of possibilities.
