    an overall great game. it was a lot like arkham asylum but that isn't really a bad thing. this game exceeded my expectations and built on an already great game.

    I avoided this game for a decade because I thought I'm not gonna enjoy it. I was wrong. This game has one of the best combat mechanics I've ever witnessed, beautiful world and interesting characters. Can't wait to try out Arkham Knight next.

    I loved the first game. This game was good, not the best, but not bad either. Everything was somewhat alright.
    One thing tho, this game is far better than the games we are getting these days. Back then devs had the balls to do some **** Now all we have are **** devs.

    From start to finish 45 hours in a week did get all the thropies too oh god this game was great gave me motivation on gym too for more than two months story was amazing gameplay was fluent puzzles was just the right amount of challanging

    Ich hatte leider mit meinem alten PC einen unlösbaren Bug, sodass ich das Spiel erst Jahre später auf meinem neuen PC Spielen konnte. Und es ist ein tolles Spiel, so viel kann man direkt sagen. Die Story ist super, die Bosskämpfe Spaßig und das Spiel ist allgemein ziemlich gut.
    Nur leider ist das Spiel nicht so gut für den PC optimiert.     Overall a fantastic sequel to Arkham Asylum. It takes the same gameplay and applies it to a new story set in a more open setting. Arkham City is a gated-off part of Gotham that was made into a maximum security prison (basically like Manhattan in Escape from New York). The world isn't very big but it basically functions as an open world with side quests and collectibles while the main questOverall a fantastic sequel to Arkham Asylum. It takes the same gameplay and applies it to a new story set in a more open setting. Arkham City is a gated-off part of Gotham that was made into a maximum security prison (basically like Manhattan in Escape from New York). The world isn't very big but it basically functions as an open world with side quests and collectibles while the main quest sends Batman around the map to explore the interior "dungeons".
    This is the main difference in design compared to Asylum, which was more of a metriodvania where the exteriors functioned as a hub. Sure the hub had some collectibles, secrets and fights, but you spent the absolute majority of the time in the different interior levels. In Arkham City, you spend the majority in the open world (at least if you do the side quests).
    When it comes to combat it's basically an improved version of the one in Asylum, which is great. The only thing that annoyed me was not being able to cancel takeout animations if someone is attacking me. It's like Batman has the reflexes of a bat except when he's in the middle of finishing someone off. Then he needs 5 seconds where he can't interrupt what he's doing. Otherwise, the combat is extremely fluid and responsive.
    I also love the fact that the stealth gameplay isn't slow. It feels just as great as in Asylum to quickly jump down, take someone out and then disappear leaving the rest scared. But I think Asylums level design was better at encouraging stealth while City favored brawls a bit more. The open world also doesn't feel designed with stealth in mind but this is also somewhat true for the dungeons. Compared to Asylum, City's dungeons are more focused on complex ways of traversal with gadgets and then rooms with brawls, than the methodical hunting Batman does in Asylum. The mechanics are there though, this is just my experience of the level design.
    My big gripe with the game is that the story isn't written in a way to encourage exploration since Batman is always on a literal timer in the story (not mechanically but narratively). As I was playing the main quest I found no motivation to stop and do silly riddles while Batman/Gotham was on the verge of death/collapse, it just didn't make any sense to me. So I finished the main quest and put the game down but after a week I felt the need to return and do the side quests. It was nice that the game allowed me to return after the credits and story wise I still think it makes sense for Batman to tie up the loose ends.
    The side quests themselves were fine. Some endings hinted towards a sequel (Mysterious Watcher and Identity Thief) so it'll be interesting to see if they are resolved in Arkham Knight.    … Expand

    You play as both Batman and Catwoman in this game, and it feels amazing to be able to explore the massive city freely with them, soaring from rooftop to rooftop. There are tons of Riddler trophies and challenging riddles behind them, the vast number of gameplay mechanics makes the game a true pioneer for future games to adapt from.

    Admittedly, the game starts off slow, but it builds up intensity once firearms are introduced, as it significantly ramps up the difficulty and encourages a more strategic playstyle that requires better use of your entire arsenal instead of a brute force "button-mashing" approach.

    The cutscenes really carry this game as everyone feels genuine and in character. It is as if you are watching an actual movie unfold before you, whilst being part of the action itself. Much of the lore you'd never see in cinema is introduced in this game, which exposes more of the Batman universe to those who do not really read the comics.

    Sadly, if I must point out a negative, it would be that the game is relatively short and shallow, although that is somewhat rectified with side content that you may choose to engage in. Despite the large map, there isn't much to do besides finishing off inconsequential side missions and collecting hundreds of Riddler trophies for no meaningful reward.

    Overall, an 8 out of 10 is a fair rating for this game. It could have easily been a 9 if the side missions had decent storylines that justified exploring every nook and cranny. But there is simply no incentive whatsoever to do anything more than the main storyline and the Catwoman and Harley Quinn DLCs. You're better off watching playthroughs of the side missions instead to avoid the stress.    … Expand

    First of all, the story of the game is not bad and the atmosphere of the game is nice, but the city is not lively as an effect of the story selection. The mechanics and animations in the game are great, fighting with the enemies is enjoyable, but the boss battles are not that good. Overall the game is excellent my rating is 90/100

Batman Arkham City is what I call "the game that makes you feel the experience of living in a new world" (also applies to Red Dead Redemption, for example). I really recommend this game and so IMaybe it's a 9, not a 10, but it's a great game, an amazing experience. The city, the music, the dialogue, the characters, the script, you feel like you really are Batman. It looks 500% Batman. Batman Arkham City is what I call "the game that makes you feel the experience of living in a new world" (also applies to Red Dead Redemption, for example). I really recommend this game and so I start looking forward to the next one as the ending allows for making a lot of new stories for an upcoming game in the series.… Expand

    Not recommended unless you are a huge Batman fan. The action gameplay is ok, but nothing spectacular. The story, the level design, the side missions, and all of the optional content are all really bad IMO. I was stuck multiple times because the game requires you to backtrack through a specific path without letting you know clearly enough. Это прямое продолжение предыдущей части 2009 года - Arkham Asylum. Вторая часть,кратко говоря, то же,только лучше. Что нового? Теперь появился полноценный открытый мир,хоть и не большой,но зато насыщенный. Появились дополнительные квесты, и это не простоBatman:Arkham City - Прекрасное продолжение первой части и лучшая игра 2011 года.(Да,она мне понравилась больше,чем Skyrim и L.A. Noire). Это прямое продолжение предыдущей части 2009 года - Arkham Asylum. Вторая часть,кратко говоря, то же,только лучше. Что нового? Теперь появился полноценный открытый мир,хоть и не большой,но зато насыщенный. Появились дополнительные квесты, и это не просто собирательство,как загадочник в предыдущей части(который,кстати,остался и его загадок стало в 2 раза больше), но и другие квесты,которые очень интересны и сделаны не просто,чтобы было. Они уникальны и ничем не уступают основной компании. Некоторые из них,даже остаются нераскрытыми и продолжаются в следующей части. Появился ещё один играбельный персонаж: Женщина кошка,а так же в испытаниях можно сыграть за Робина и Найтвинга. И ещё много других изменений в геймплейном плане. Это часть,по моему, во всём лучше предыдущей. Сюжет стал более интересным,разветвлённым и я реально переживал за бэтмэна по мере прохождения, хоть и знал, что он не умрёт. Появился русский язык,появились неожиданные повороты в сюжете, и даже не один. Атмосфера стала ещё мрачнее,хоть и потеряла свой комиксный стиль. Единственное,что было в предыдущей части, но не было в этой - это офигенные моменты с пугалом,здесь есть что-то подобное в одном из квестов, но это совсем не то. Но в целом это почти идеальная игра про бэтмэна. Если бы не 2 минуса.
    1)Головоломок загадочника стало в 2 раза больше,чем в предыдущей части.Их же,конечно,можно не собирать,но я из тех людей,кто любит проходить игры на 100%, причём, нас награждают за собирание всех этих трофеев и загадок,но этого стало настолько много,что замучаешься всё это собирать. Причём,некоторые из загадок довольно сложны, и приходится помучится.
    2)Оптимизация. Довольно часто проседал ФПС на пустом месте. Не знаю, в чём дело,но в двух последующих частях всё было нормально. Не знаю,может я что-то не так настроил,но факт остаётся фактом.
    Итог: Достойное продолжение , которое кое-что потеряла от оригинала,но в целом стала намного лучше во всех отношениях.

The Boss Fights have more creativity to approach them especially Mr. Freeze. There are 3 playable Characters(Batman,Catwoman,Robin) that are all very different.     A good game that was made worse by its open world. It didn't add anything of worth to the game, but an illusion of bigger scale.
    Regardless of the boring transversal between missions, it's still a worthy sequel.

    Loved this game as a kid so I replayed it not long ago and it's aight, it has memorable characters and it is entertaining enough but the plot and gameplay weren't as interesting as I thought back then.

    The gameplay is fine but it did got a bit repetitive and while a big open world setting is a fun idea and you get some entertaining sidequests, batman just isn't the type of character where you can do a lot whithin that setting, it's mostly used for combat and riddler puzzles making the world a bit of a chore to complete, the game is also too easy, even on hard it was hardly a challenge except for the more stealthier sections which were by far the best parts of the game.

    The story starts of as interesting with an antagonist that knows your identity and a secret plan to discover but by the end the payoff for both of these concept just felt wasted as they didn't do much with them. Hugo Strange is one of the most underwhelming antagonists I've came across in a while and by the end he leaves little to no impression and that's including another antagonist but I guess that would be spoiling the story. I will say the final confrontation at the end while hasn't have a lot to do with the original conflict was still a much better payoff and a much more satisfying way to end the story.

    So yeah a bit disappointed when i came back to give this another go but definitely not bad especially for a super hero game.    … Expand

    Almost 10 years since it's release and this game still holds up a special place in my heart. The gameplay, story, soundtrack, characters and even the secondary missions is so amazing and definitely memorable.

    I can't believe people voting this a 0, but I guess there are haters everywhere. Yes the game was a month late, yes DX11 features will slow down your game, when it should, in fact, speed it up, yes there is SecuRom, and yes its on GWFL. However, none of that really matters, a month later? Who fricking cares, yes I had some of it spoiled, but I should have kept away from the batman forums… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman: Arkham City çok başarılı bir oyun. Batman sever biri olarak bu kadar kaliteli bir Batman oyunu oynamak benim için ayrı keyifli oldu. Hikayesini anlatarak başlayayım. Oyun Arkham Asylum'ın hemen sonrasını konu alıyor. Arkham Asylum'da Joker'in alt edilmesinden sonra bunu kendine mal eden Arkham Asylum'ın müdürü Quincy Sharp Gotham'ın yeni belediye başkanı seçilir. Başkan seçildikten sonra Arkham Asylum'ı yıktığını söyleyen Sharp yeni bir projeyi tanıtır. Bu projeye göre Gotham'ın bir kısmı duvarla çevrilip şehrin geri kalanından izole edilecek ve bu bölgede suçlular kalacaktır. Burada suçlular serbestçe hareket edebilecek fakat bölgeden kaçmaya çalışan suçlular bölgenin güvenliğini sağlamak ile görevli olan TYGER adındaki güvenlik görevlileri tarafından etkisiz hale getirilecektir. Arkham City projesinden 1 sene sonra Bruce Wayne bir basın açıklaması yapar ve Arkham City'nin çok tehlikeli bir proje olduğunu, insanlara zarar vereceğini söyler. Bu basın açıklamasını gerçekleştirirken Bruce Wayne, Hugo Strange'in adamları tarafından tutuklanır ve diğer mahkumların yanına gönderilir. Olay örgüsü oyuncuyu içine çektiği gibi Joker ve Harley Quinn gibi karakterlerin de iyi işlenmiş olması hikayeyi zenginleştirmiş. Sunum olarak da oyunu oldukça başarılı buldum, ara sahneler de genel olarak çok kaliteli. Oynanış ise muhtemelen bu oyunun en güçlü kısmı. Bu oyun benim gördüğüm en akıcı ve keyifli dövüş mekaniklerine sahip. Dövüş mekanikleri ve farklı silahları/hareketleri kullanarak kombolar yapmak o kadar keyifli ki bir savaşa girdiğim zaman bitmesini hiç istemiyordum resmen. Oyunda ilerledikçe dövüşlerde kullanabileceğimiz farklı silahlar ve yetenek ağacından da farklı hareketler açabiliyoruz, bu da oynanışı çeşitlendiriyor. Oyunda Catwoman'ı da kontrol edebiliyoruz ve bu karakterin de kendine özel hareketleri, silahları ve komboları var, yani oynanış anlamında da Catwoman'ı oynadığımız bölümler yeni bir soluk getiriyor oyuna. Catwoman bölümleri dışında genel olarak diğer bölüm tasarımları da oldukça iyi ve atmosfer içine çekiyor. Gotham'da dolaşmak çok eğlenceli ve şehir o kadar iyi dizayn edilmiş ki şehirde Batman ile dolaşmak çok rahat ve pratik. Pero en si no es una mala entrega de esta saga Batman Arkham. Se nota rápidamente todas esas mecánicas y variantes a las que nos tiene acostumbrados los juegos de Warner pero en mi opinión esta entrega no destaca pese a esto sino que han sabido adaptar y contar una buena historia relacionada con el personaje.     Once again we have Batman pitted against Joker, and this    I just finished playing Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition and I absolutely loved it. Batman has always been an interesting character and the Arkhamverse is able to bring out the joy of being the caped crusader. While Batman: Arkham Asylum was a great game in itself, after playing this game Asylum just seems like a demo.

    Once again we have Batman pitted against Joker, and this time he's dying because of the Venom that he had taken in a huge dose in the boss level of Arkham Asylum. And he tricked Batman into catching him and injecting him with his blood, such that Batman also gets infected. Joker also sent his blood into all the hospitals of Gotham, which could cause everyone to die. Meanwhile the events take place in Arkham City, a prototype city that is set up by Wayne Enterprises.

    Unlike the previous game, we are already given many gadgets. We have to either discover the other ones later on or they are occasionally disabled to add to the challenge. Some levels also require to use a huge arsenal of gadgets and strategies like in battling Mr Freeze or Clayface. We also get to control Catwoman. She's hard to adapt to in the beginning, but eventually you get the hang of it.

    The only problem I had was that there was too much to do here, unlike Arkham Asylum where I could at least keep track of the events. I didn't even get the time to play the extra stories of Nightwing and attempting the challenges since I had other games to play, and I didn't want to waste time here since I had already completed the story. But these are just subjective opinions. I'm really happy I got this game on Epic when it was given out. Now that I have completed it I will try out Arkham Knight next and tell how I felt playing that game.    … Expand

    When I finished Batman: Arkham Asylum, I was clear that this was the best Batman game ever released, so I didn't expect Arkham City to beat the previous episode. But I was wrong and Batman: Arkham City is even better. The developers probably already had a plan to continue at that time, because what they prepared for us here several times surpasses the previous part. But I was wrong and Batman: Arkham City is even better. The developers probably already had a plan to continue at that time, because what they prepared for us here several times surpasses the previous part. Batman is back in all his beauty with the Joker. I've already praised both of these characters enough in Arkham Asylum, and it's not different here in Arkham City. Harley Quinn is also back, along with a few new characters, such as Penguin and Hugo Strange. They also do not lag behind and are quality characters. What I praised in the previous part was that the game had a perfect atmosphere. It is also here and is perhaps even better, because this time we have not only a small insane asylum, but the whole city, which is already bigger and therefore we have a greater opportunity, with the fact that there are still secondary tasks. The story is excellent and is even better than the one from the previous part. I would also like to mention the battles themselves, which are even better and especially with Catwomen you will massacre enemas like butter. Again, I try to avoid spoilers, but right at the beginning we get the opportunity to play for Catwoman and I can gladly tell you that this is not the last time we get the opportunity to play for this character. Catwoman is terribly OP and she plays with her better in my opinion than under Batman, but that's purely my opinion and I'm a little away from the main topic. So apart from the new playable character, the story is even better than the one from the previous game, and will we even see a few, say, battered moments of Batman, which I might compare a little to Far Cry? That sounds pretty crazy, doesn't it? You better not take the comparison seriously and just take it that there are parts in the game in the style of Scarecrow's passages from the previous part, they are just even better here. In short, the game takes what worked in the previous one and improves it to the maximum and adds a few new features. An excellent game for me and perfection for Batman fans. I recommend it, especially to Batman fans, but I also believe that ordinary players will enjoy the game.… Expand

    Story telling is excellent. Boss fights are bests in series. Combat mechanics are perfect. Traveling got better. Probably the most fun you can get on a Batman game.

    Unbelievable story, great acting and dubbing. A lot of different characters from the DC Comics universe introduced. Cool soundtrack. Great feeling of progression all along the game. A lot of winks of eye to the franchise's fans. Missions and opponents are varied. Bossfights are just awesome. Gadgets and their improvements are interesting.     The story and voice acting are fantastic, with Mark Hamill's Joker stealing the show once again. The game looked nice, even though I don't have a very fast PC, and am running it on the lowest settings.

    Takes everything from the original and improves on it, (except the Riddler trophies). The storyline is amazing, with a bold twist right at the end. The boss fights are fun once again, with the Mr. Freeze fight being one of the best in gaming history. The gliding is enough fun that it makes moving from one side of the map to another less distracting. Some of the side missions can be annoying and most of them have anticlimactic endings. Most annoyingly are the Riddler trophies which feel more like a chore than anything else.     One of my all-time favorite game. It improves on everything from Arkham Asylum. The combat is better, the stealth is better and the gliding is better. The story is a bit less focused but that's partly because they make use of so many Batman villains in the story which is a good thing.

    One of the greatest (if not the greatest) superhero stories i have seen in this medium up there with Marvel's Spider-man. Smart additions to the gameplay with improved smooth, free flowing combat and a rich, dark and gritty gotham city makes this game far ahead of its time. Absolute classic.

    Best game of the trilogy and the one that I remember I like more. The story it's still good and the gameplay was improved.

    Though the ending is surprising, in a way, the story isn't the main focus of Batman: Arkham City. Exploring and adventuring come first, you have so much to do that you that the hours just slip by you. Yes, the boss fights are probably too easy, the narrative too short, the framerate goes down on occasion and not all the players will appreciate searching through every nook and cranny to find trophies. But it's all up to you and Arkham City offers a variety that not a lot of new games have nowadays.

    The developers should be proud for Arkham City and its precise portrayal of Gotham's mood- at least accordingly to recent films and comic books. A gothic atmosphere is undoubtedly dominant, as the majestic architecture of neoclassical buildings shadows the industrialization and the bright lights of a contemporary metropolis.

    It's hard to create an extraordinary game but to recognize it is quite simple. Arkham City with its cinematic appearance towers high above the rest with its production values. [Dec 2011]
