So good I bought it three times!
After seeing me play the Steam version both my Kids (5 & 7) wanted me to get this for their Switches.
The game is beautiful looking, charming and with a great soundtrack. As others have mentioned the game is a throwback to the platformers of the 90's so you will see inspiration from all your favourites like Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Kirby etc, however

As others have mentioned the game is a throwback to the platformers of the 90's so you will see inspiration from all your favourites like Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Kirby etc, however I also felt there was a Little Big Planet vibe as well showing some more modern inspirations.

The game has plenty of varied locations and the game play is different enough in each level to keep you entertained with some levels stepping very much outside the traditional 2D platformer genre.

Whilst there is nothing genre defining in this game, its cute graphical style, relaxing soundtrack and familiar game play mean you cant help but enjoy yourself. Its not overly challenging as an adult, although I did find that a few of the final levels required a number of tries and both the Candy boss and the final boss were more challenging than any of the others. Younger kids might find some of the levels frustrating but I would say no more so that I did as a kid playing this style of game in the 90's however kids games tend to be a little more forgiving now.

There are a few niggling issues, the odd buggy space where something might not quite work as it should but nothing that spoils the experience.
The Gems seem arbitrary and I can't figure out how many i need for an extra life or what the purpose of having the differ denominations of gems is rather than just one type, but again this didn't impact my experience negatively.

Thoroughly recommend for anyone who enjoys platformers, and think its a great wholesome, fun and charming game for the kids.

    Ayo the clown,
    no clowning around
Ayo the clown is a nearly 5 hour long 2d platformer where you play as ayo the clown, someone snatched your pup up and you have to rescue them… Youll go across 8 different worlds with 8 different themes.. at first it seems like a simple easy kids game.. and there are even difficulty settings to give you more checkpoints, youll simply be jumpingaround,

Youll go across 8 different worlds with 8 different themes.. at first it seems like a simple easy kids game.. and there are even difficulty settings to give you more checkpoints, youll simply be jumpingaround, collecting gems, and dealing withenemeis, hopping on their heads or smacking them with balloon swords, but as the game goes on youll unlock new abilities, eventually floating with a balloon to reach higher places, the game does get more and more challenging, but its never an annoying challenge.. leaving ayo the clown to be more than just osme generic platformer, it feels and sounds like a Mario meets littlebigplanet game, the care andpolish here is way more than I expected it to be, and again, with the new themes they do more than just change skins, each worlds levels feel unique to that world, a new gimmick to deal with.. and each world does end in a pretty basic, cheap at times but super beatable boss battle… with the gems you collect youre able to upgrade your chratcer, like having a larger balloon to float with, or more hearts,
My biggest issue with ayo the clown though,, is that for one it’s a clown.. clowns are just weird, but for 2 osme mechanics here just feel awkward and never feel like they want to work right, such as sliding, or wall jumping.. tankfully these things are never needed during a boss battle, but yoll rarely be able to just flow through a section, having to retry the slide or wall jump, practically every time..
Overall though Ayo the Clown was a pleasant surprise, this is a far better game than it has any right to be..
    I give Ayo the clown
    A 7/10

Cute and precious, well worked, bugless movement, nice plot. I can call this game as ART. I reccomend it to you if you want to play a cute platformer.

If you’re desperate for a platformer, you might find some redeeming qualities here. Overall, the game took me under 5 hours to beat, but completionists might need an extra few hours. This game could have been something exceptional, and hopefully, the devs take this criticism as an opportunity to add more polish to the game with future updates.
