Epic RPG fun. This entry into the series is more focused than its predecessor, the narrative elements are stronger and the player is presented with some genuinely interesting and meaningful choices throughout. That said the Avernum games have always leant more towards the hack 'n' slash end of the spectrum so don't expect deep branching NPC dialogue trees. The series is Epic RPG fun. The series is still heavily concentrated on combat and dungeon delving and that's the way I like it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another great game by Vogel. In this installment of Avernum you get to play on the side of the Empire for the first time ever. A fantastic story with witty dialogue, fans of Vogel will not be disappointed. The new engine also looks better than ever.

My only complaint would be that the skill tree seems to be getting dumbed down every time the graphics get more impressive... that, and the sound track, but the latter is no surprise for anyone who's ever played a game by Vogel.

  1. I have to say that the game, while rich in plot and story, lacks in visuals and sound, may be enjoyed by few. I would like to see the folks at Spiderweb software be given a big budget and let loose.
  2. All we can say is that this certainly ought to please hardcore RPG players and veteran nostalgists alike.
