The concept is fantastic - it transforms your music collection into a colorful and interactive rollercoaster ride. However, it is worth mentioning that the game requires offline music to fully enjoy this mesmerizing experience, which might be a drawback for some users.

Despite that limitation, the gameplay itself is a blast. Audiosurf combines the joy of listening to your favorite tracks with the thrill of arcade-style gameplay, creating a captivating fusion that keeps you hooked for hours. It's an excellent way to unwind and immerse yourself in a mesmerizing world of sound and color.

The game's mechanics are simple yet engaging. As your chosen song plays, you navigate a futuristic spaceship-like vehicle along a pulsating track. Your objective is to collect blocks or match colored gems according to the beats and tempo of the music. The rhythmic synchronization between your movements and the music creates a captivating sense of flow and achievement.

"Audiosurf" boasts a user-friendly interface, making it easy to pick up and play. It caters to a wide range of music genres, ensuring that players can enjoy their preferred tracks while exploring various gameplay modes. The game's adaptive level generation means that no two rides are the same, enhancing replayability and keeping things fresh.

However, it's essential to note that "Audiosurf" doesn't offer the depth or complexity of some larger-scale games. It leans more towards a casual gaming experience, making it perfect for quick sessions or relaxing moments.

In summary, "Audiosurf" is a gem of a game that brings your music to life in an interactive and visually mesmerizing manner. Though the requirement for offline music may be a drawback for some, the gameplay experience is well worth it. So, if you're looking for a fun and engaging way to enjoy your music collection, give "Audiosurf" a try – it's a great little thing that packs a lot of enjoyment!

The game is a little broken because when you want to score high on the leader board, you just pick an incredible long and difficult song, name it whatever song you want, and the game will post your score in the appropriate track leader board.

The animations are cool and the sync between the music and the pathway is pretty well done. I enjoy playing it when I am bored or waiting on something else to download.

For the low price, it is worth it!

Best game out of the 2 audiosurfs, to say sadly, Audiosurf 2 wasn't cutting the edge as most.

Audiosurf is a game that is satisfying to play for 2-8 hours, but is not a game that you play because it's an amazing game.

Audiosurf is a great game. Simple as that.

It has simple mechanics which are easy to get used to, and its one of those games that any Music fan would enjoy. You choose from your own music library and it makes song maps based on the song. Its definitely one of those games to play when you just want to chill out to some music and maybe play something casual whilst doing so.

A really little nice game that you can get for really cheap on steam ( it is often on sales). It's play based on your musics, and it is quite satisfying, especially since there is quite a few modes that allow different gameplay. The look of the game is simple, but efficient. A must have for those who like music or that want a little game for their spare time

Fun, colourful, fast paced and down right addictive. Audiosurf is cheap and a must have for music lovers everywhere. The bpm time up so well with the game play that it just puts a big ol' grin on my face!

Is your house buried in snow? Or are you bored and you have nothing else to play? Then this is your game. While listening to your own music, you gather colored blocks to earn a high score to beat friends or even get on the global leaderboard on the games website. If you get the wrong colors, the screen shakes, resets your ship, and you lose points. Overall its fun and good time wasting game.

Its a fun game if you listen to a lot of music. Truly I actually only bought it about a month ago and it can get boring if you are used to other games. I still enjoyed it just not as much and not as long. I will continue playing it though as a relaxation game. It was fun but I might get the second one because it is more advanced and higher graphics it seems.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought this game when it first came out in the year 2008. It cost 19.90 USD then, and I got it at full price (there wasn't so much discounts on steam back then). Was I skeptical? Yes, I was. I was skeptical because the concept of this game seems simplistic. Of course, this game has convinced me after a while that I have made the correct investment by paying for it at full price.

What this game appears to be is that it converts sound files (music files such as .mp3 ones) into a linear ongoing track of some sort. You get to control a small little car-like vehicle, though the only movement you can perform are sideways. The speed of your little car-like thingy is determined by the pace of your music, which is represented by the color of the track you are riding on. I won't go into detail on the blocks and game play, but that's basically it.

In short, this game lets you ride the music.

And yes, you can ride on almost any musical file you've loaded into the game, and this is what make this game great and worthwhile.

There is one particular game mode which I like - mono. It's basically a no-brainer where you simply hit the color blocks and avoid the grey blocks as you move forward along the track. It's a splendid mode relax yourself with, especially after a day of tiring work when all you want is some of your favorite music and soothing gameplay.

I got it at 2008, and it's 2014 now. Years passed, and many parts of my life have changed. Still, what remained the same is that, after all these years, I will still give new music a run or two here, in audiosurf.

Oh and did I mention that I am still getting e-mails from audiosurf's scoreboard saying that I have been dethroned? Yeah, it's nice to see these e-mails amidst all those work mails and all.

This music game is as fun as you make it. If you give it the time to play by adding your music then the game will be truly worth the money. The game is fun and quick to play and can never get boring as you repeat the music over and over and it never gets boring.

I will admit the fun comes from trying many of your favourite songs; and the speed of your ship and the length of the route all depend on the way the track is arranged and it’s really done very well. The main downside to the game for me comes down to the general interface being quite clunky, but overall it provides a lot of fun! Expand

Weird idea... play racing tetris which dynamically changes based on the tunes you feed it. A really novel and fun idea, but once the novelty wears off there's not a lot of substance under the skin.

Call it a game, call it an interactive screen saver, none the less it is an enjoyable way to listen to music. Many complain about it's simplicity but that's the beauty of it really. The fact that it can make a track to a very under the radar song and still show you who else plays/listens to it.

Most people play the mono style which is simply dodge the gray blocks and grab the colored ones.

THe one thing this game could have would be a more consistant level builder that made block grabbing a bit more interesting. Sometimes tracks will have a corkscrew in them which is fun, but only once per track on some tracks on some songs only. It would be great to have these show up more than once and even add in flips and other interesting track variations.

While not perfect, the game is certainly worth the price you pay. It isn't complex, it isn't stressful like other indie rhythm games, its just right.

  1. At the very worst, it's an ingenious multimedia toy that'll have you dusting off the untouched corners of your MP3 collection for a few happy evenings. But for those twitching fingers that still enjoy the thrill of the high score, Audiosurf has the potential to become a bite-sized obsession thanks to its quick fix gameplay and infinite musical possibilities.
