This game so far is great! I really like the new way they took the combat, and pretty cool take on the ATB system. The updated / streamlined way they handled the alchemy I'm enjoying. The one thing I'll take a point off for is the lack of an English dub it just makes me sad, hopefully with the new found success this particular entry Is having they will have the money to include one next time. I miss my Atelie dubs : -( . Expand

I bet these are only reasons why this game sold out better than Atelier Sophie. Expand

Great graphical improvement, faster and more dynamic battle system, overall and upgrade for the Atelier series, this game is a console port, so it's best played with a controller, make sure to have that in mind before playing.

The PC port is poor. Has optimization and performance issues (even on a GTX 1060) despite it looking like a PS3 game (and having ridiculously low resolution shadows and ambient occlusion), no proper Keyboard/Mouse support, barebones options menu, game physics have issues above 30FPS, and the game has crashing issues on some setups (Specifically with AMD graphics cards).

Total waste of money. I wish I could return the game. The game play is confusing (battle system, alchemy etc.) and the characters are flat and boring. Score 4 only for the graphics, but really not worth the money at all! the whole game is not enjoyable at all.

The worst RPG. It has a lot of flaws and most can't be ignored. Or i'm just stupid.

There is still much room for improvement in the gameplay of the 'Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout'. Its characteristic alchemy system and leisure daily life are very suitable for players who have not play this game.

If like me you tried to get into the series in the past but couldn't... GIVE THIS ONE A CHANCE!

I saw some gameplay from this on YouTube on an unrelated commentary video and was so interested, I did some research and discovered it was Ryza. I was surprised when I saw it was an Atelier game and put it in my wishlist but had my reservations due to past experiences with the series. I always found it too cute, too girly and too confusing in previous games on PS Now. After reading reviews and seeing more gameplay, I decided to wait for a sale to try it out, it sounded like if any Atelier game was going to appeal to me it would be this one.

Two days ago it went on sale so I bought it and have played 12 hours so far. This is THE BEST JRPG I've played since Persona 5. The writing is fantastic and has kept every minute very interesting, entertaining and had me laughing out loud to the excellent dialogue. The characters are brilliant and fit perfectly with the game's theme and story. The mechanics are tight, intuitive and fun with plenty of scope to experiment and lots of variety to keep things interesting. The soundtrack is great and voice acting is enjoyable too (although there is no English dub so you will be reading subs).

Some complaints I've read are from long-time fans of the series who don't like the hand-holding and the overly long tutorial but being new to the series I actually appreciated the slow learning curve and was never bored, overwhelmed or stuck reading pages of information. The tutorial is done well (although I'll admit it does restrict you in a very linear fashion so on a 2nd playthrough I could see this being frustrating). However, Persona does the same thing and won't let you do ANYTHING for a much longer amount of time, at least with this game you are free to explore and gather very early on and will even get some side quests too whilst it is still guiding through the first steps main story arc.

The game looks gorgeous and runs smooth as butter. The controls feel great (I only wish there was a way to change the gamepad button for sprinting). I was very happy once I turned off auto camera rotate, adjusted sensitivity to max and turned on minimap rotation. I would highly recommend this game to any JRPG fan who appreciates good story, great mechanics and fun characters. I honestly think they completely NAILED it with this game and I'm looking forward to playing everything it has to offer!

Amazing game that is very engaging.

The story is excellent, the character building is excellent, gameplay is very fun, crafting systems extremely fun and engaging, a great artstyle that can be built on, good voice acting, and just an amazing experience.

If you like storytelling games and character driven games, these are the games for you!

A versatile addition to the series, Atelier Ryza offers new and engaging features, though it does need some tweaking in regards to overleveling.

Atelier Ryza is a great game slightly marred by a poor port, lack of enemy variety, and hard-to-find ingredients. But anyone who likes crafting games absolutely owes it to themselves to play this, as it's a huge amount of fun.
