Assassin's Creed: Valhalla seems so worried about disrespecting your money that it will instead flagrantly disrespect your time. Needs the middle 20-30 hours chopped out of it.

A glitchy game with a beautiful open world, combat that becomes pretty boring and tedious, and a great story that ends up being really anticlimactic. It is a pretty decent game that had the potential to be one of the greatest games I've ever played.

Gameplay is on the whole other level compared to odyssey, graphics is good but story is so good that the game would be better without it. It's boring, i finished it and i didn't even noticed until i checked achievements on Uplay.

Okay, this game is really good : great open-world, multiple side-quests - it's a well made singleplayer rpg. The problem is... that it is not an Assassin's Creed game. Stealth? Forget about it. Parkour is non-existent. Of course, you can climb on the tower etc. but your character will just get stuck, glitch and you will be detected. Okay then, what about assassinations? If you want to assassinate anyone in this game, you have to be either on at least their level, or have a special skill, that you can unlock in a skill tree. Look , i am not saying that this game is bad, it is just not good Assassin's Creed game. Expand

ASSASSIN'S CREED VALHALLA is a beautiful looking game that suffers from possibly the worst controls in gaming history, the incompatibility of the ASSASSIN'S CREED series and too much excess baggage. Let me explain:
Firstly the CONTROLS: Eivor (player character can either be male or female) controls like a fully loaded Mack truck hauling 3 equally loaded trailers driven by a drunk. But
ASSASSIN'S CREED VALHALLA is a beautiful looking game that suffers from possibly the worst controls in gaming history, the incompatibility of the ASSASSIN'S CREED series and too much excess baggage. Let me explain:
Firstly the CONTROLS: Eivor (player character can either be male or female) controls like a fully loaded Mack truck hauling 3 equally loaded trailers driven by a drunk. But somehow we are supposed to believe that s/he can gracefully scale walls the best ninja wouldn't be able to? Combat is clunky and unresponsive, but the worst offender is the climbing mechanic: shift utilizes an UNintelligent system where the AI assumes what you wish to do - which at least in my case was wrong 95% of the time. Trying to climb down something or getting off something has a 90-10 chance of success. The controls are atrocious! Whoever came up with these should be flayed alive. Add the console-friendly menus to the mix and embrace the suck.
Second issue: IDENTITY CRISIS. The latest ASSASSIN'S CREED games, ORIGINS, ODYSSEY and VALHALLA (probably the preceding ones, too, but I haven't played them) suffer from an identity problem, that is ASSASSIN'S CREED itself. While the original lore of assassins versus Templars draws form the Crusades, the later games' attempt to justify the excursions into Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and per-medieval Viking Age falls flat on its face and is totally unbelievable and outright ridiculous. The ASSASSIN's CREED game mechanics also don't work with the setting itself, a Viking using stealth?! It just doesn't mesh. The last 3 ASSASSIN'S CREED games should not have the AC name and should ditch all AC elements.
Third: EXCESS BAGGAGE: Ubisoft, drop the present timeline with Layla Hassan and the Animus already!!! It's immersion breaking (a deathblow to any Open World game!), the character is annoying and uninteresting. I always skip her dialogues and hit the Animus as soon as the game lets me, which at the first interruption works relatively fast, but later you need to do some quests. Ditch this, or at least let us decide if we want to have this or not (like the gender selection at the beginning it could be an option). There are also lots of annoying cutscenes that drag on which cannot be skipped and a lot of filler content that is just bloating.
There are also several bugs (many MANY crashes, synchronization issues with the forced use of the Ubisoft Connect Program), even over half a year after the game's release. At times my long boat would flip over and become unmaneuverable until I quit out and reloaded the game. Couple that with horrendously long load times and you can imagine how much fun that was.
When the game works properly and you've made it past the annoying cutscenes and Layla sequence and reach England, VALHALLA shines: it is one of the most beautiful looking Open Worlds, hands down. You can get some mileage out of it simply by exploring the vast area. Sailing down the rivers while mist engulfs you is just pure atmosphere and makes you feel like in the movie The 13th Warrior.
I also like the branching skill tree a lot - not overly complex but not too simple either, which allow different play styles (full out assault, bows or stealth assassinations) or mix them to your heart's content.
Unfortunately after a while repetition sets in. And grinding. The world is divided in Power Levels (you gain Power Levels by upgrading your gear and weapons and by investing in the skill tree). However some neighboring regions have such a steep rise in Power Level that hours of grinding and collecting ore, ingots and leather becomes mandatory. Many game mechanics that start out to be fun (raids) soon become tedious and repetitive as well. And once you've uncovered the entire map there's little to keep you playing on. The missions are not very varied either, ranging from fetch quests (a lot of them) to assassinations.
Overall VALHALLA is the best looking AC game with beautiful locations and vistas to behold, but it offers too little innovations to be compelling in the long run - let's face it, Ubisoft has been making the same game over and over and over again with ROGUE, UNITY, SYNDICATE, ORIGINS, ODYSSEY and now with VALHALLA, it just comes with a different paint job. Also Eivor (either gender) is a very bland character compared to ODYSSEY's Kassandra. It's just slightly above average and the fun factor is like a roller coaster ride with ups and downs and unfortunately more downs than ups, especially if you played previous entries in the series.
Oh, and then there's the overly long load times that don't seem to be justified. Also at each startup of the game you are informed about how this game was created by a team of ultra-woke loons of many genders, faiths and nationalities - yes, the cringe-worthy screen greets you every time you start the game and takes a chunk out of your time as well.

It's a re-skin of the previous 2 AC games. Combat is the same, stealth is the same, everything is the same except new gear, dual wield, character customization like tattoos and hair. The new features would be worthy of a DLC, not a stand alone game.

Story is typical of Ubisoft. Interesting setting, but bland content. Shallow or simply uninteresting characters, conflicts and events.

Sure, the whole setting and map is impressive as always. Ubisoft's environment artists are always top notch - 10/10.

But still. Cringy voice acting. I honestly cannot understand why Ubisoft can't hire decent actors in any of their games.

It's the same game. If you expect something different, you'll be disappointed.

I snuck up behind a guy, and there was no way to assassinate him, in my assassins' creed game. I also accidentally pushed a few of the VIKING GUARDS into the water, and promptly watched them drown like a 5 year old with Cerebral Palsy. My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is at least a little bit of a letdown.

This has been my favorite setting for a AC game since black flag. If it wasn't for the NUMEROUS game breaking bugs and additional chunkiness that this game has, I would be rating it much higher. The PC port is also pretty horrendous. I'm using a 3080 and I'm still getting about an average of 70-80 frames.

I'm consistently fighting with controls, dealing with a **** load of bugs, and in general experiencing frustration on a regular basis. I wish I could rate this game much higher, but in its current state (2 weeks after release) it needs a **** load of work.

Before AC: Vahalla, I hadn't purchased an AC game since black flag, and I will likely won't be purchasing any additional Ubisoft games until they actually properly test their games. This performance is honestly shameful for a AAA studio.

Looking past this though this is another decent Assassins Creed experience that will provide over 80 hours of content. However, if you enjoyed the previous two titles Origins and Odyssey then this game is going to feel like a downgrade in many ways.

Some returning features or new features that the game has included are assassinating bosses, kill conversations, speech checks, mini-games, dual-wielding different weapons, and raiding. Some of these are very welcome additions that make the game feel fresh. Some removed features or features I wish didn't return are killing civilians will desynchronize you instead of increase your bounty, no bounty system, reduced gear/weapon system, less gear variety/customization, combat is very janky, only one finisher animation per weapon, AI is considerably worse than previous titles, stat tree forces you to grab stats you don't want to get the ones you do want, and gear acquired in some locations cannot be kept when returning to the normal area.

The setting of the game is very interesting and I was hoping for another amazing experience like in Origins and Odyssey (post-launch) but it's clear that the developers were trying to mix both the old and new Assassin's Creed games together in Valhalla. Sadly this meant removing much of what made the new games extremely fun and replacing it with dated mechanics. If I had to sum the game up in one sentence it's "1 step forward, 2 steps back".

The story was rich and deep and I loved the hallucinations of the other world Bayek had. The story had meaning and direction and felt very original as a refresh to the AC Franchise. So when Odyssey came out I was so excited I was hoping for more of the same on a different package but was disappointed its not that Odyssey is a bad game same like Valhalla it just feels like its lacking in many aspects that Origin's did so well almost like a step back in many ways in trying different formulas instead of sticking to what worked. Valhalla is the same as Odyssey and Origins in that aspect. The game feels like it lacks something. 12 hours in and the world feels bland and empty unlike Origin's the combat feels repetitive, worse than the last 2. The story is stronger than Odyssey but it has no depth. Overall is a good time waster game looks decent but this shouldn't have been called Assassin's Creed game, Ubisoft should have just made a different game based on Vikings because this really doesn't feel anything at all Like and Assassin's Creed game. Valhalla struggles to balance out an Open World with Story and Loot. You have much fewer weapons and armor to loot and one of the core mechanics "raiding" isn't fully fleshed out yet. You get resources only once and it feels more like a "what could have been but isn't" scenario. Horrible Face Animations and weird character movement are one of the points why Mass Effect Andromeda got beaten up pretty hard and i am wondering why almost no one is acknowledging this problem in Valhalla too. Emotionless and dull, that is how every scene between characters are looking.
Assassins in this game are only appearing as a visual "pleaser" but have for the first half no impact in the game or story whatsoever. Probably just to shut down those "It's not an Assassins Game" critics. It doesn't feel like an Assassin Game and also most of the time not like a Vikings Game. You get some little treats of those things here and there but this game is just another bland "Ubisoft Open World" game. At this point i'm just getting tired of the Ubisoft Bullcrap they put out since Origins. Origins was new and refreshing and bumped up my expectations for the Assassins Series again but with Odyssey and Valhalla it went down pretty fast. You can't expect me to praise a game or give credits to it when they just slapped another "theme" on their game and called it a day. Origins had a lot of unique Buildings and i'm missing that in Valhalla. Almost every Church in Valhalla is from the same "Preset" just add a little bit of fire or cracked wooden stuff here and there and here you go. I wish Ubisoft would go back to their former self and at least "try" again.

A lot of the writing is excellent but what really killed it for me is the ending. A series of totally irrational, incredibly stupid out of character choices and some cutscene deaths. I'm supposedly an assassin with a raven I can see through with the council of numerous battlefield veterans but apparently we're all too stupid to scout ahead. Use my raven to scout (the raven is worthless all through the game) or just go to assassinate the one guy I'm here to kill. Nope - leave the army behind, take a handful of people into an obvious trap, etc etc.

Stuff like that. Hey, this seems like a great time to ask some intelligent questions! Nope. Not an option. How about I tell this person the incredibly relevant and important info I know about what's going on? Nope. Then you can't make some incredibly stupid choices later!

This game would have been better with 0 Assassins Creed stuff too it, no main story. Just two Viking brothers going to settle England. The mechanics for that are excellent. The character lines are often brilliant - the story is absolutely not. The ending makes me miss Mass Effect 3s ending pre-patch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my first game in AC universe after Assassin's Creed II and be honest i really disapointed. General idea is great, vikings, Odin and all other things allways in top charts. But after Witcher this game looks like a cheap copy. Let's say i went to quest location not strait but thry the village where i found infor that one of NPCs works for both sides, after you comming to quest zone where you see this NPC and in dialogue you still do not have any option to say that he is traitor. After some time information about that will appear and you will even have a quest to confirm that. Seriously is it so hard to add additional triggers. Or let's say you are cleaning some village from enemies and next time when you will pass thru you char will say like: "I should be carefull here, there is guards.". I not a big fan of "next gen" graphic but i think it's not ok when fire and birds looks like a gif picture in game, which is cost more that 50$. Story is predictable like a movie from 80's. Amount of bugs just horrible. In my case i faced not working triggers, NPCs have been stuck on the way or just in hills. In case of my friend he went to Asgard earlier than should, died there several times and decided to go back to increase his lvl. But after that game just crashes and he is not able to play it again and support told to start game from begining. Rly? All locations are big but empty. With maximum settings i can see proper and biutiful world just i several meters around me. In my region this game cost 27$ and i think this can be fare price for such quality but i cannot say that this is real triple A game. Expand

Starts of great, but game just drags. If you need your rpg fix, play it. the first 20-30 hours, its worth the price. But after that it just gets grindy.
I dont mind the game being long, but the game gets repetitive on the tasks you do to progress the story.

They get some points for trying with the world events as they are mostly unique and some are even interesting. But the sheer massive size of the game worlds (yes there are several different playable areas) really starts to bog things down.

They end up suffering from the exact same issue: they've got a bad case of the way-the-hell-too-big-itis. No matter how engaging or interesting they can make the world events (as I said some are actually fun, but others suck hard, like cairn stacking), there are so damn many of them it can't help but get bogged down in repetition.

There is really no one thing that drags the game down per say, but it does suffer from death by a thousand tiny cuts. There are a lot of little changes they made that are very questionable as well. Unnecessary combat tweaks (which in my opinion they basically already had nailed in Origins), the annoying and repetitive raids on Abbeys, etc.

And my all time least favorite move on Ubisoft's part in the last several years: their insistence on making everything an RPG and failing to write actual characters, instead pretending to give players choice while being able to cop out of having to write real protagonists (I am of course speaking of their ironclad insistence on keeping both male and female protags an option.) In a franchise like AC, it is far better to have one well written protagonist of a particular gender whether male or female.

To sum it up, they tried to appease the masses at the cost of staying true to the soul of the franchise and the game has suffered for it. They really NEED to pair the next game down and prune a lot of the fat that has crept in lately. I don't have much faith that they will though.

Story is ok..first game in years I just couldn't finish, due to boring, dark and depressing story and a serious lack of incentive..

    No armour and weapon drops?
No armour /weapon rewards for big kills?
Feck all armour designs especially light leather armours for sneaky builds.
No dismantling No arrow crafting No transmogrification NPC's actually have better gear No reward in exploring.
No replay value World events incredibly lame Bugs crashes and more bugs
No decent music playing Disappointing customisation options-hair styles are all butch, too many tattoos not enough feminine hairstyles
    Skill Tree-awful awful awful
Raiding-repetitive...well vikings..I'm so over that, they were a nasty bloodthirsty bunch of criminals really Chasing things on rooftops Mini map compass location Poor bird has been downgraded
Killing bosses for no reward (other than to make the world a better place)
No darts-where are my assassin tools? I miss them so much.
Awful finishers happening ALL THE TIME..hate that..no quiet 'Im just walking thru town minding my own business assassinations', no double assassinations..big pause when assassinating, quick time events on assassinating.. No decent light armour in cash shop either

Thats it- its an ok game with some terrible systems dragging it down. It's better to play it in a linear fashion and forget about exploring and hunting down bad guys, its not worth the time and effort.

    1. The sound is abysmal. Very low bitrate and it sounds atrocious.
    2. So many bugs it is insane. Reload savegames to fix bugs or just try to ignore them. But its bugs bugs bugs.
    3. The ending does not make sense at all. The King kills some of your friends, then he turns out to be the leader of The Order and because he is happy the order is destroyed you let him live out his days in exile. Riiiiiight.
    4. Have I mentioned the bugs already?
    5. The animus stuff is getting boring. Make a game without it. Nobody cares for it.
    6. Please, don't release your next AC game before enough time has been given to fix the loads of bugs.
    7. Also, don't cheap out on game size. I rather have better audio and more GB to download then this piece of junk.
    8. Such a waste of potential. The setting is nice, the world looks amazing but it can not compensate for all the stuff thats wrong with.

Buy this game in a sale and don't believe all the bought higher ratings.

Let's start with pros - the game looks gorgeous and most of the time runs nicely. I also really like these small eyeball movements and facial expressions of the main characters (others dont have any expressions so such things like screaming only comes to opening mouth for them). But that's all.
Now for the cons - The game been crashing for me everyday at least once dropping me back to the desktop. If i were lucky enough to play for some time, sooner or later i came onto some kind of bug or error that blocked the progress - NPC i should be following stands like a statue, script didn't triggers even tho i am in a correct possition, or Quest started without it's objective and i couldn't end it (the one with the barrier). That alone had a massive impact on my enjoyment with the game.
Next up - Plot. The game's being set in RPG genre. Yes Eivor is cool and easy to identify with but the whole story is boring and unnecessarily stretched out. Not a single decision has a impact on story. Everything comes to go to point X and kill bunch of NPC's - all the time. Eivor is a viking right? Forget about sneaking then. Ubisoft was promising 'getting back to the roots of the series' with sneaking within monks - yes you can actually do it. Is there a reason you should do it for? Not at all. 99% of the time you have to use violence (call your crew and raid the place) in order to open up a way to your goal. All this 'assassin's vs templars' plot could be easly removed from the game and nothing would happen.
The whole 'settlement' thing also does very little for the game. I only returned there whenever the main story ordered me to do so. Of course you can upgrade the gear there (that also has very little impact for the game - you can literarlly go with your starting eq and you'll be fine) or give back gathered collectibles in return for more minningless items.
Birds fly with 15 FPS (even if you're right next to them) witch makes them look hillarious.
Sounds are compressed 'to save up some disk space' but they sound just awfully. I also can't remember a single musical background.
The game is clearly designed to take at least 50 hours if you rush it, so that the regular player will have to buy at least two months of ubisoft+ to finish it. In my honest opinion - less hours but better narration or gameplay is worth more than gigantic world filled with boring activities.
It doesn't deserve more than 7. It's an okay game but nothing besides that - not a good Assassin's Creed game nor a game about Vikings.

W porównaniu do poprzedniej części: nieco mniej przyjemna rozgrywka, ładniejsza grafika, brudniejszy klimat, bardziej nużące i powtarzalne czynności, głupsza fabuła.

And, from my own experience, it seems to be a pattern throughout all of the AC games: they start out strong and slowly fade away towards the end once all of the routines settle in.

The story is alright, but nothing too exciting. Usual Ubisoft problems there: boring dialogues and poor animation. World events it's the only breath of fresh air in this entry. Most of them seem fun and interesting, although they lack in depth and duration. I've stumbled upon a few quest-breaking bugs with World Events as well.

Speaking of bugs, there's quite a few. Although sometimes it's difficult to say whether something is a bug or it's a poor game design. Abilities require some serious rebalancing, I ended up using only one ability (the one with the harpoon) as it was dealing much more damage than all the other ones. Skill tree was rather annoying with all the sub-nodes to unlock, as unlocking them didn't add anywhere nearly enough difference to actually notice during gameplay.

Visually the game looks like Odyssey, in the best-case scenarios that is. But in most cases, it actually looks worse. Very disappointing in that regard.

And gear and weapons... Oh boy, that was one of the stupidest changes they introduced. The gear system is basically non-existent. I ended up using the first gear set (Berserk) I got at the very beginning of the game throughout the rest of it. Other gear sets had weak buffs and looked much worse next to my upgraded gear. Same with weapons: tons of shields, barely any interesting weapons. I found a badass axe at the beginning of the game and used it for the whole game as I couldn't find anything better.

Overall experience was very mediocre. The game feels extremely rushed into release and unimaginative. Like with pretty much all of the previous AC games, they could do a much better job if only they invested a decent amount of time into development. 3 years of development is a joke, regardless of how many studios were involved.

Oh, birds and flames at half the framerate are still there ;)

Loved the game for the first 30-40 hours even though this is probably the most buggy singleplayer game I have ever played. The combat is so underwhelming and the sound design is AWFUL. The story delivery (character expressions and voice acting) and the cinematic experience is the typical ubisoft mediocrity. It had a few good moments but they were far too rare. But I still had a great time exploring the world and farming resources. But the moment I got tired of exploring, is the moment where the game started to drag and become annoying.

Some Story arcs were really good. But most of the later arcs felt so unnecessary and fillerish. The story could have moved on to the Sigurd arc without any of these later arcs. It felt like an actual chore to play-through the story in the 2nd half.

Also the ending felt so lacking that I didn't even realize that it was supposed to be the end.

The game has a really good OST but it is so under-used and miss-used. Story raid music for example where Einar selvik's osts start to play are so good but they are added so quietly that you can barely hear them in the raid.

I just wish the story would have been only half as long. That would have made the game a much better experience.

I'm glad that I'm done with the game.

Looks like Ubisoft has been learning by its mistake in the previous games and perfecting on each realease. From this new trilogy (Origins, Odyssey and now, Valhalla) Valhalla is the best one among them.

Valhalla has great campaign story, really long campaign lenght by the way even though is shorter in map size and less "RPG" than Odyssey for example. Story is interesting and has some very well developed characters (Eivor being the best)

In Valhalla, Ubisoft removed the grindy mechanics found in previous games (Origins and Odyssey) and brought back some of the good old stealth that made the series famous. There are some story arcs in the major cities that brought back ACII vibes, and it's really well done.

England's landscape is a delight. Green pastures, forests, swamps everything is nicely done.

Now for the bad parts: Game has some visual bugs (I played on PC on ultra), flickering, bugs where characters go under the ground, npcs running to the wall (enemies included), a very annoying bug when you load and your characters becomes drunk (also happens when you die and respawn which is even more annoying), I also had some crashes, all the crashes happened during quests, so once again, really really annoying. Fortunately, I didn't have game breaking bugs.

NPCs face models is really terrible, if you played the previous games you already know, it's the same engine so no enhancements, all npcs look terrible expect for the major one (3 or 4) and Eivor that is really well made.
Game has some 1999 fire effects it's ridiculous. Unbelievable, because water effects are so, so good and fire effects sucks. The major problem is that you interact a lot with fire during gameplay so it's really concerning.
Enemy AI still bad, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Microtransactions. I can't say much because I didn't even open the store during my gameplay, you don't really need to and you don't feel compelled to, at least I didn't. From what I see in microtransactions store you'll find, clothing, weapons, mounts, exp boost, etc.
Like I said, it didn't bother me because I didn't feel the need to use, but microtransactions in a single player game is always bad, so that's a no-no.

Ubisoft will probably change engine for the next trilogy (as this one is most likely finished). If they fix those bad parts IMO (characters face models, AI, etc) the next Assassin's Creed might be even greater than this one, which is totally possible.

Barely any story, and the settlement-making aspect is not enough to make up for the fact that not much else is new. It’s a fine AC game - just much more boring than what I expected after a two year wait. Lots of bugs and crashes. The graphics and designs are quite nice, the world itself is well built.

4 game freezes in the past 24 hours, a bugged romance quest that has been highlighted to the developers for over a month with no fix along with numerous other open world bugs certainly takes the shine off however.

The exploration can become very repetitive - find house, find crack in wall, shoot lock from door, enter house, find chest, repeat. This certainly takes away from the immersion when you are in the middle of a raid/battle and have to take a quick pause to solve a mini "puzzle". These puzzles being trickier and less frequent would have been welcomed, stick to kicking doors off during raids and battles and leave the puzzles for sneak elements of the game.

Visiting establishments outside of quests feels quite empty and hollow, further the game has taken the realistic approach to England for the time period (small wood and dirt establishments with the occasional impressive cathedral). The usual ubisoft coins & helix credit cash grab are present.

Suggest waiting for the price to drop and patches to be released.

Except for some exceptions, the game does not really try to tell us who the vikings were, like the history channels' TV show as a good example in that sense. The story itself takes place in what is today England and the protagonist is not really a true viking, but more of a member of a secret order for (modern) liberalism and tolerance. The vikings saw the Christians as their Ragnarök, and those Christians -were- their Apocalypse, they brought an end of their pagan culture, with the help of the cross and the sword. Some modern Norwegians have rebelled against this act of erasing the Native Norwegian pagan culture, it even got expressed in arts and music, in the black metal scene for example. Ubisoft are pretending to represent a part of history, but they are legitimizing only a flat view of it, players who only play this game would not learn a lot about viking history, or what Valhalla could mean for these warriors. What made this game so boring I stopped playing it after 23h was the fighting system. It is so dynamic and thrilling you could almost mistaken it for minecrafts fighting system. I simply enjoyed exploring the beautiful and vast worlds of ancient Egypt and Greece. Well, plus / minus the stories were not bad, albeit they were simple. And now we have Valhalla... beautiful graphics? Yes, there is, but it's already 2023, so it should already be just norm. Music? Yes, it's just yes. Story? It is on about the same level as the previous ones, but a little more interesting. There are also a lot of side quests, but almost all of them are five minutes long.
Now about what I didn’t like, and what made me quit the game, after a certain point:
A lot of small bugs... ugly and uneven animations... disastrously stupid AI of enemies... Catastrophically disgusting and hacky DLCs... transformation of authenticity into a donation dump of hundreds of tasteless and unnecessary items for the Vikings era... constant changes by the company of various interesting things which were found in the game by the players (as soon as something appears on YouTube, it is deleted by the company).
But the strongest rejection for me personally was the combination of the terrible appearance of the map and the stub of the "scanning eye" with the fact that these maps are simply incredibly huge. I suddenly realized that I didn't want to explore this World IN THIS way. I don't want to spend SO much time on this using a very unpleasant scanner tool that worked fine before in Origins and Odyssey.
For me personally, they killed the franchise with their Valhalla game. Rest in peace Assassin's Creed.

    TLDR :

    Music&Sound: 9
    Story: 1

    Total: 7+

Overall a fun game, with beautiful gameplay and really good graphics if it was not for one HUGE problem: the story is PURE WOKE.

I really appreciate the idea of treating the story of viking invasion of England, but all the elements which were added together with it have absolutely no logical tie with history, to the point of sometimes being ridicolous: let's start from the first problem: the idea of pairing Normans with Assassin Creed's narrative -thereby being anti-templar and anti-christianism- is so against historical truth to the point of ludicrousness.

Viking's original religion was in no way a bad copy of the Mujaheeddins, in fact the whole idea that vikings believed that they were fighting to be the best warriors in order to ascend to the Walls of Allah (Wall-Allah or Valhalla) has no logical tie with history : pre-christian Scandinavians believed that fire was the spirit of divine and by the time that they were invading England, the Norwegians had become the Normans thanks to French influence, hence adopted Christianism as their religion and latin as their tongue. I would expect that from a French software house this would be a very much known things, but as it seems wether France has forgotten its history or no-one inside this company is effectively French.

The only vikings who did believe in Valhalla were those enslaved by saracinians and working for them as pirates in the mediterranean.

Had one read even the most vague book of history, he would know that one of the greatest kings of the Norman-English kingdom in fact later on led the crusades PRECISELY WITH THE TEMPLARS, his name was Richard the Lionheart.

So the entire script behind this game looks like an attempt from really non-french and non-european people to cancel European culture.

The reasons why I am awarding this a 7, still, are purely in order to award the visible effort of non-politicised developers who worked hard to bring very good graphics, music and a very solid and fun gameplay, otherwise the storyline itself could be simply thrown in the trash like the entire Assassin Creed saga.

Please bring back REALLY French narrative and not this protestant/woke/leftist/nazi-like ridicolous stuff in Ubisoft. Thank you.

For a Long time, I have been an AC fan, my First AC game was in fact AC1 on the PS3, It was also the first game I paid for after saving a lot of my parents' lunch money. I spent and enjoyed my time in that game so much. At the time I never knew there was a sequel, so seeing the box for the first time had me surprised and gitty. So I saved and bought that one too and AC II blew my perspective of games out of my mind. So years went on, I Played AC Brotherhood and Revelations, Waited for ACIII and was also amazed by it. AC Black Flag wasn't bad too and then came AC UNITY, and the Last AC Game I played, Syndicate.

Then something changed, something I've been noticing ever since Unity, The Helix Credits the weirdly marketed content, well that didn't matter because a New AC game was coming out. To my surprise, It wasn't an AC game at all. It was some RPG, Damage based game with soft stealth...This is where my Disolvement of this franchise began and it continued for more than Half a Decade. AC in my Eyes was truly dead.

But why am I playing Valhalla then, I like it don't I, oh yes I do. No, I hate this game right down to its core. Let me tell you why?

-Stealth mechanics are some really basic implementations complemented by rubbish-looking animations.
-Poorly Reused assets, I understand that reusing assets is a normal thing in the game industry but Ubisoft literally used pretty much every asset they made over the 5 years and used it right in front of your face. Literally, the first female character you meet uses assets from Odyssey.
-Poor Combat Mechanics, The combat is a hack and slash with glorified finishers. It feels like a High budget mobile game.
-Animation Feedback, I don't know who did the animations but it all feels so generic there is nothing that feels high quality anymore.
-Character, Eivor is a boring character with a cheap past to make him/her important.
-Boring level Design, Are We still claiming things to see things? Damn. It's understandable that you want the player out there in the world but who cares if there aren't interesting things to do?

AC Valhalla uses every trend, marketability, lazy development trend, and modern gaming feature in existence to make sure that it makes money.
And funny enough people like this. I get it people like content, but is quantity really good as quality?
Personally no that's why I've waited for so long.

So if every single thing about this game is designed so cheaply, why am I playing it, why are other people playing it?

For me at least I am playing it so I get to see where the franchise is and what exactly not to do If I ever Work for Ubisoft or make a game myself.

For other people, it may seem normal for Assassin's Creed to be like this as it made it easier for them to play. Sadly for veterans like me, we are not so fooled.

Anyway, I am going to rate this what it feels like after playing a bit of it.
If I ever finish this game I will update but after playing I guess over 10 hours it feels like a 5/10. This is not an AC game. It is half of something like it was made in such a rush.

I'm going to be here a while...Oh did I mention this game also tried to destroy my PC by running in unlocked mode and in 4K on start-up, I mean geez Ubisoft, It's bad enough that this game sucks, now you want to suddenly test my PC's hardware on 100% Utilization across the board.

    Definitely don't do that again.

Which is a shame, because i can see a good game beneath it all, but a lot of the games elements are half baked, sometimes systems in place don't work properly, mostly stealth and climbing: You will find Eivor getting detected through walls or by enemies far beyond range of sight, parkour is frustrating; most of the time Eivor will jump down or go to a wrong place, ignoring player input.
Game looks and sounds beautiful, it's the best part of the entire experience, alongside exploration. Maybe if the game focused on what made the AC franchise great and tried to improve its original parts, instead of focusing on whats popular, the game could have been good, great even. But as it stands, Valhalla overstays its welcome by beign a 300h+ game to fully complete, filled with content and systems that are not compelling enough to justify this sort of game time.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
