This is my favorite Assassin's Creed game since Brotherhood. The game takes some of the mechanics from Assassin's Creed 3 (which I hated) and improves them slightly, but the atmosphere and story this time around is much better and really sucks you in. While the series still suffers from boring filler missions, the games mechanics make them fun enough. In my opinion, the game really shines during the naval battles and pirate ship everything. Going from land to sea is seamless and easy, and your pirate crew sets the mood perfectly by cheering for the captain (you). They sing shanties while sailing to really bring the mood home. When you engage in battle, it is completely dynamic and increases immersion. When you can board an enemy ship, everything feels very dynamic which makes the experience feel authentic and makes you feel like you really accomplished something cool. After every battle you feel like a badass.

The same can't really be said for the land fights though. The series has been making the stealth portions easier and easier, and the laughable ease of Assassin's Creed 3 remains fully intact. At least this time around, most of the bushes you hide in actually conceal you. You can still run right into an enemies face, then jump into a bush and they will act like they were "just seeing things", which is mood killing. If you played AC3, you know all about the land combat.

This game is great solely because of the pirate theme and what they have done with naval battles. It feels like it is being tacked onto the Assassin's Creed brand in order to boost sales when it should have been a fresh new IP that could take full advantage of the amazing ideas introduced. The game gets an 8 from me because the pirate aspects truly hold the game up that much.

It's just not ground breaking and awesome like the old ones. The story line is different and will play out to be nice, but side quests...Really? I liked to collect optional stuff from each zone, yet it netted me nothing (I don't really like that i only get 1% when i complete a zone). Outside story mode this game has nothing to offer in terms of gamplay. Pirating is fun for a while, but since you blunder basically same resources (Women, new ships, slaves, art, gold yarrr???) all over...You are not feeling like a pirate.

Quick fire round to pro´s and con´s.

    Pro´s:
    - Setting is not limited to cities only like older releases
    - Pirate setting is done nicely, you are spending time on a vessel
    - Crafting got useful again and ship customization looks awesome
    - Sneaking, fighting got updated amongst other things.

    Cons:
    - The "Real life" story is left out for good part of the game
    - You don't really have a clue about the grand schemes, so you are not pursuing a goal.
    - Little to no graphical improvements (Well they don't even need to those, but added them anyway. Game looks awesome!)
    - Characters are uninteresting
    - Optional stuff is optional...And useless. Why collect 15 fragments that will not grant you anything expect 0,5 progress sync story.
    - I´m pretty sure i have seen some character models in AC 1 3 as major storyline...
    - You need to wait a long time until story kicks in. Don't get bored until then.

Same mistakes were made again like AC3. Soulness and Nonsense game story is boring. Ubisoft must understand that, last two games is not AC game. Maybe expansion pack of rookie assasins but, i didnt see any assasins whole two games. they need to get rid of being "callofdutiism". they didnt mess up any game like this, even PoP series.

Still this game has some magic, even with it's flaws.
AC titles have always been full of details and this one it's way the better by this criteria. Some missions are boring, and the achievement madness is still there.
Gameplay is good because it may totally be affected by one fundamental thing: the way you want to play it. You can win missions in a ton of ways, and you may enjoy the aspects of game the way you prefer. The game is incredibly polished, and the story BEHIND what's going on in the caribbean (if you don't know, every AC game is set on a double world, the present and the past) keeps you there wanting to get new material and unveil the facts you are still not aware of. In the game itself you'll find many many things to do, and most importantly, you'll see BEAUTY... Yes, i mean it. Frankly, i'm a huge fan of pirate themed stuff. I played every game on this theme, and while every each one had it's pro and cons, none had the thing that i enjoyed the most on this title: The feeling of being deep in the pirate era: the landscapes of the isles, are them big and covered with vegetation or loose low sand ones... the pirate crew singing pirate-ish songs (or not, while you can mute them with a screamed order!) while cruising through the waves of an late foggy dawn... Cruising your ship in a huge storm or through a placid clear sea... all these things are priceless.

If i where to compare this game with other titles, i really would say this game should be put in the league of Skyrim, while being HUGELY better. Since the latter is aswell a game for exploration, history and arcade combat, i think the comparison should be true. This game won't leave you disappointed if you are seeking for something beautiful to try. Still, if you already played earlyer AC games and are seeking for something dramatically new, then you may not find it. The work have been done in other directions, clearly.

For those arguing this is a bad port, you may not listen to them. Yes, this title may be ported, but you would not see that. This game is well ported, no bugs or annoying feature, and i won't say more.

MULTYPLAYER: the multyplayer mode it's quite chaotic. Since i've not tried that deeply i'll only say that there have clearly been done a lot of work around it. It has potential.

GAME CONS: While being an huge game full of content, as someone said sometimes it feels repetitive. You don't see this only in the scripted missions which are very similar most of the time, but also in the models. I believe that both the necessity to sell it for consoles and the vastness of things to be crafted and polished, led to a general lacking of variety in each one of the many aspects of the game (ship models for example).

GENERAL CONS: Game has it's downs too. For instance Ubisoft force you to start the game through his annoying "Uplay" service, (yet if you want to play it offline you can, but without the special content you may have bought; "hey ubisoft, i've payed for it, what do you mean i cant unlock it offline? are you mocking me?" I won't argue politics here, i will only say that i had to literally fight with the Uplay software to make it work, since it was not working in the beginning (some conflicts with system files). Also, the game is clearly full of buyable content, making you wonder how much of it would be in the game itself if this marketing trend where not so fully adopted by the company.

BIGGEST CON of the game, to me, was the general feeling that the lack of modding support, make this a ruined masterpiece. It's like you wonder if something like this game could be modded to be enriched, or converted into a simulation game... This game is so near to what i've always dreamed about, that it frustrates me so much. Why so few ships? Why fantasy ships? Why frigate on spanish army? Where are the Dutch, the French and the portuguese? Why wheren't you able to put accourate historically ships ingame? are you kidding, ship rams? Why can't i switch a captured ship with mine? Why so limited access to the ship itself? why only 5 things to trade? Why aren't there different types of cannonballs? You'll keep asking yourself these questions againg and againg.

but you will enjoy the game nonetheless.

9 out of 10 for me. (I am really surprised myself to have found a game so entertaining).

I would really like to see me being able to sail the distant lands on my own doing whatever i want I'm a pirate after all! This game reminds me of Far Cry 3 a lot as some systems are similar. You have similar 'quick travel' options, you can create stuff from hides, hunt animals and tag enemies similarly. There are some minor glitches that we can look past, but I have been detected by enemies a few times and had to do it all over again.

Sailing the ship can be fun but I was looking forward for bigger interaction. I haven't finished the game yet, but so far I find my pirates rather useless. They do help during ship vs ship battles, but you can't really use them elsewhere (yet?). I remember calling assassins in AC:B to aid me in combat a lot, but in Black Flag you have more 'stealth' missions. Hiding in bushes for a minute or so, so you can learn enemies path to know when it's time to move. Sailing the ship is okay, but I think they should let you scroll out further to really see what's going on around you.

Overall I give this game 8/10. It's fun to play and I'm looking forward to finish it soon, which I usually don't do with most new games.

There were tons of control related glitches, mostly pertaining to the fact it was a poorly done port from the console, i believe. This was after the game had been out for a while and had all the DLC out, so it's like they didn't even care to patch it to full functionality.
AC4, however, exhibited none of these technical flaws so far. I've played the game about 38 hours and have been having a great time. I havent had any crashes, lock ups, frame rate drops (the settings are all on ultra/high) and things are great. I love pirate games like the classic sid meirs (sp?) pirates! game from early 90s on the com64. It's rare to find a good pirate game, and this has tons to do.
I love upgrading and customizing my ship, weapons, clothing etc to fit my playstyle, and just sailing around the huge sandbox attacking ships is also fun.
There are some things that could be improved, but for what it is (a console port) it is awesome. The people that are saying it's the same as AC3 with pirates are being ridiculous. Of course a lot of the same things from other AC games are going to be in it, it's another installment of the AC franchise. If they changed how everything worked people would cry about that. If you read most of the reviews, the complaints are petty. It runs great on my mid-level machine maxed out, plays better than the last AC, and is Pirates!!!

I have found the game to be extremely frustrating due to the poor control design. Unfortunately, since the story is not that great the only thing that could save this game is the game play, but you need intuitive controls for that. If this had been the first attempt of a company at a game maybe I could be a bit more forgiving. Anybody who picks this game up, I can assure will thoroughly enjoy it, and another great thing that Ubisoft did was, instead of making the pirates how most people view them, they made them exactly how they were in the Golden Ages.

What really pisses me off is all of the people who are giving this game negative reviews. I can assure you that not one of the negative reviews is actually about what the game brings to the table, which is WHAT REVIEWS ARE, they are not about you not being able to run the game. People are complaining saying "Oh, this game sucks, nothing to see here, it doesn't even run properly." Wrong, actually these people just have terrible graphics cards and need to stop crying and get their parents to buy them a new PC. I can run this game fully maxed constant 60 fps. Then you have some people who say this game has terrible graphics and rate it with 0. I don't know if these people are delusional, playing on low settings on a 240p monitor, or just feel the need to cry about something because of their terrible childhoods.

To anyone who is contemplating on purchasing this game, it is a must, and I can assure you that as long as you aren't a child, mentally retarded, or like to complain because your upset with your current life status, then you will have some of the most fun you ever will with a game in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

The first person view and Abstergo as entertainment company made me want to ragequit the game instantly and play AC2 thinking that AC4 was a baaaad nightmare that never happened.

Ac3 was really bad and empty, AC4 is a total Lie. If someone is thinking about buying it, wait till its on Steam sale for 3 bucks, more than that its worthless.

Definetly, Ubisoft is sick with the call of duty fever, yearly releases and yearly deceptions, i have no more hope on Assassins creed anymore.
Also started the Aveline DLC on AC4 and after 10 minutes it was totally boring and uninstalled the whole game.

Assassins creed died with Ezio Auditore. It's not worth to play the 3rd or even this new one.

AC1 was like: wow it has potential, will look for the future
AC2 was like: oh my god this is the best series
AC:B was like: oh my god this is the best series, second part
AC:R was like: not as good as previous games, but its okay. (they should have explained better what happened with Lucy at the beginning of the game)

AC3 was like: what am i playing? i have the feeling that im not understanding anything

    AC4 was like: Assassin's Creed R.I.P. 2013

It is hard to like the game after you lose all your save progress. UPlay killed my save game. After looking online, this problem is very widespread and they have all sorts of suggestions on how to prevent future saved game loses. If they know this is a problem, then they either need to fix it or implement their own suggestions so that people stop losing all of their progress.

This is were the game flourishes, ship combat is so well refined and not to mention my favorite part is ship boarding, when you attack a ship enough its disabled and you can board it and slaughter its crew, THIS IS SO FUN!

The sound is ok, I found a few times where the sound of a sword hitting an enemy what out of time with the action itself, and the sword sounds are much quieter then what they usually are, the musics pretty good, there are some new animations which give a feel of "A new assassin".

The story seems ok so far, nothing special but walking around in Abstergo Industries is nice because god rays nice colour pallet Nice Place.

I was planning on giving this game a 9.5/10 only because of the screen tearing im getting, I run the game on a gtx 670 and am playing it at optimal settings for my PC and if I enable V Sync that just drops my frame rate harder then the anchors in the game, the reason im giving it a 10 is to offset all the haters, this game is a massive UP for the series, it took a small element from AC3 and made it the sole chemistry for AC4, ships.

However, after mastering the ships controls and a few upgrades, something clicked. The naval combat in this game is amazing fun. It just works and if you're not overly cautious you can find yourself in some tight scrapes and the battles can be thrilling. It's pure arcade, but not dumbed down, it's masterfully designed for sheer enjoyment.
I also noticed many user reviews claiming "poor console port" then only siting control issues. Yes this game was designed to be played using a console controller, a great deal of third person games are. If you enjoy this type of game why not buy a controller? Cheaper than most hi-end gaming mice. Is mouse and keyboard sacrosanct or something? We get a superior version of a console game to play on pc, we're not losing we're gaining. I only have sympathy for this kind of bleating when a game that plays better with mouse and keyboard, like Skyrim for instance, is shackled with an unwieldy console menu system or something of that sort. Otherwise, just buy a bloody controller.

This game has also made great improvements on the sailing mechanic that was in AC3 and now it's mandatory, unlike in AC3 where it was merely a gimmick to collect more useless money. Speaking of money, it also has use now, since ship upgrades are expensive and add to game play, rather than idiotic city improvements or home decorating. I've heard that there are technical issues, but those aren't fair to judge a game by since my computer ran it perfectly fine. However, one thing that can't be excused is that most of the land missions are a little boring when compared to naval missions, since tailing or eavesdropping missions can be annoying to play. This time around in the present you are a silent protagonist working for Abstergo Entertainment, a mega corporation which is using the memories of Desmond to make AC4. The present day has its own set of collectibles, and the crew that was working with Desmond also makes much welcomed appearances in the story. To wrap things up, the environments are pretty, sailing is fun, there is a lot of exploration, and I personally had great fun with it and so might you. Expand

For a game that seems confident that you can play to your style, I've never had to restart, reload and repeat so many missions because one tiny little detail sent the entire situation out of control, and almost 99% of that was because of the game's ridiculously irritating control system which is equally likely to send you in the wrong direction as the right one.

I think most gamers who visit Metacritic have learnt to ignore the typical fools who give ridiculously low scores due to inadequate hardware or pirate versions of the game that either don't work properly or are simply not up to date.

For those that want the typically honest, straight-up review from myself, pull up chair for a simple one.

Combine the "I fancy messing around for a while" freedom of GTA with the beauty and crafting of Far Cry 3 and the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean oh, and add the usual Assassin's Creed and you've got Black Flag.

Up until this point, Assassin's Creed has pretty much been the same old thing; which is not a problem for those of you who, like me, enjoy the games. But, to be honest, after a hour or two of ACIII I'd had enough, the enjoyment I had from the first two games was completely gone. Ubisift must of detected this stale feedback of ACIII and obviously decided to really mix things up, and wow, what a result!

So, you've got your usual Assassin's Creed gameplay, you know, running around towns, killing guards, blah blah blah, and then you've got what is, quite literally, the best depiction of naval adventure and battle that's ever graced a computer. Once you've completed the introductory bits (usual AC sort of stuff) you basically get your own warship and crew and then you choose to do whatever it is you want to do, be it following the game or not.

Sailing, treasure hunting, swimming, diving, harpooning, bar brawls...........and on, and on.....

Assassin's Creed Black Flag simply puts the fun back into AC, fun that left the series after ACII.

Oh, and if you've got a decent rig (GTX 670+) then you're in for a visual masterpiece. The towns look better, the shadows are better, the animation is better, the details are better and the water? Well, it's spectacular, combined with very good time of day lighting and outstanding weather effects. Audio is also extremely good. The PC version (which already far surpasses what the PS4/XBox One can achieve) is also receiving a Physx patch for even more effects.

With an i7@4.2Ghz, GTX 680 and 12GB RAM, I'm running it completely maxed (apart from High Env quality and Low God rays) at 2560x1440 and it runs at a smooth frame rate; granted, not 60fps solid, but a very acceptable and more than playable 40-45fps.

Just make sure to disable VSync in game and run D3DOverrider, forcing VSync and TB.

I don't often give 10/10 for anything in life, but when there's nothing else quite like Black Flag available, it is truly epic.

the gameplay is mostly fun. the games stealth system is greatly improved over AC3, but it still needs tweaking and it isnt as good as its supposed to be. the game has a lot of stealth, and the system just doesnt feel built for it sometimes. still some stealth missions are fun. the combat system is great. its fun and cool and the fighting animations are great. animations in general are top notch! from climbing to running the games animations are amazing. the graphics are also amazing, and its one of the best looking games ive seen. the engine isnt as powerfull as cryengine, but the game is so well made that it still looks spectacular. the sea, sunsets, citys and jungles all look amazing. jungles in particular have tons of detail, and the lighting there is great. the game in general is extremely detailed, much more than other games. given that this game is also so huge, there was a lot of effort built into it. naval combat is also great and fun. boarding ships does get repetetive though. even so its still fun. the draw distance is also spectacular. weather effects are, again, some of the best ive seen, especially the waves. the music in the game is mostly good and fits the game. when your crew starts singing its also pretty fun. the parkour system is overall great. you do stumble to your death for no reason some times, but overall it works pretty good. parkour on your boat is a bit annoying. underwater segments are also great and cool.
EXPLORATION is a huge part of the game, and it is done masterfully. you allways want to find new locations and explore. finding collectibles in the game is also fun. in most games i dont care about collectibles, but in AC4 they are done really good. tailing missions and evesdrop missions are still in the game, and theyre annoying as ever.

overall this game is amazing and i cant praise it more. exploration is really fun, the design is great and the story is good. this is the ultimate pirate game. i highly recomend it!!!!!!!!

My only complaint is I wish there was more to the world, it's big geographically but feels stale...they're getting close though if they keep up with this trend and hopefully with a more interactive real world story arc the next game could be truly fantastic.

Oh and my five year old pc plays this just fine, not sure where the technical complaints are coming from really.

Horribly casual, good-looking game. ACIV pretty much typifies what's wrong with the pastime of video gaming today -- über casual, semi-interactive gameplay layered under pretty visuals. Only recommended for gamers who got into the pastime around the time the Nintendo Wii appeared. For anyone else, get your friend(s) to play it while you watch, drunk!

It gives you sea sickness after playing... you just can`t figure out if you are throwing up because of the stupid game or because of the fact that everything keeps moving after you close the game.

Since AC2, all those games are getting worse! Only bought it because it was almost free in Humble Bundle. Well. If you are looking for a good game, try something else.

Caveat emptor- let the buyer beware.

As someone who has never actually played an Assassin's Creed game before and someone who has recently completed both Splinter Cell: Blacklist and FarCry 3 (both from Ubisoft) within the past 6 months, to me, Assassin's Creed IV really does nothing new, judging by the heavily borrowed concepts from the 2 aforementioned games. Despite the mostly unoriginal campaign, the graphics are pretty good and the PC port as a whole is decent, with the exception of the Abstergo entertainment FPS parts of the campaign.
Starting with the gameplay, Assassin's Creed IV does barely anything new and what it provides is essentially the same seen in some of Ubisoft's other IPs. Examples of what Black Flag 'borrows' can be seen through none other than the crafting, hunting, assassinating, body hiding, climbing and looting mechanics. Crafting, hunting and looting mechanics within Black Flag are pretty much identical to that seen in FarCry 3- you craft holsters to hold more weapons, pouches for ammo etc. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS FARCRY 3. Hunting is also pretty much the same, down to the animations and cutscenes for skinning the corpses of the animals (this time around, they let you skip the cutscene, which is a positive). Onto the assassinating, climbing and body hiding mechanics, they are so similar to those seen in Splinter Cell: Blacklist, that it may as well be a reskin of the game, but with hidden blades or swords sometimes. I don't have a problem with iterating gameplay features, but when these mechanics are so similar to games that the same publisher have the rights to or even released within the same year, I feel cheated. Also, the freerunning system felt like cheating the game- kind of like how Sonic is jokingly called 'press W to win', AC4's freerunning could be compared to 'press shift-W to win'.
However, the seemingly more original gameplay from Black Flag comes in the form of its combat and naval aspects. The actual combat of the game is very well done, with a free-flowing combat system which makes fights seem very fluid and satisfying. It's somewhat similar to melee combat in Sleeping Dogs. The naval combat is enthralling and engaging. From the previews of the ship combat, I was worried that the naval elements were just going to be the worst parts of the game. Fortunately, they are surprisingly fun- much thanks to the execution of the concept which makes the ship handling feel adequate and exciting.
The actual PC port is quite well done- plenty of options for users, fully rebindable keys, reasonable controls that actually work very well and the performance is fine (on an ATi Radeon 5800), so long as you leave ambient occlusion on SSAO, shadows not on soft, motion blur off and the antialiasing off (AA made my game extremely laggy and blurry), the game will run fine. It may not have run as well for me as the game is Nvidia optimised, so keep that in mind if you have a Nvidia card. The actual game's graphics are very nice, but in my opinion, does not qualify as 'next-gen'. The graphics are on a similar level to Tomb Raider (2013), but I subjectively think that Tomb Raider has better graphics, again, maybe because that game was AMD optimised so I was able to play it on relatively higher settings. I personally expected next-gen to be on a similar level to Crysis 3, but that may be asking too much.
If you are looking for a decent PC port, you are in luck. However, if you are seeking a game which has original gameplay, you are looking in the wrong place. Assassin's Creed IV is a good-looking (but not quite next-gen in my opinion) game which has diverse gameplay features, but most of which are unashamedly 'borrowed' from Ubisoft's other IPs, making it seem as if they are merely sticking to a formula to make money.

The naval part of the game is very shallow yet probably the best part about the game. Enemy ships have a single hit location and once you've damaged it enough you can board it. Sounds arcade-ish? You're right, it is. The waters are littered with floating cargo and survivors, and I mean LITTERED. They're everywhere. Enemy ships pop in large amounts so if you're in the mood for some pirating, you can literaly hang around outside any harbour and shoot anything that moves... and there's a lot of movement. Too much to be honest. The boarding is incredibly boring and repetitive, so you'll soon resort to settle for half the loot and just sink the bastards. With a few upgrades you can sink 2-3 ships in the same time that one boarding sequence takes so you'll actually earn a lot more that way. The only reason to board is to heal your ship mid-combat.

Otherwise the game is more or less like the prequel.

When it comes to naval battle's it really does show this game off. I did enjoy how well the combat mechanics worked, very fluid and smooth, and very easy to understand. However I would have liked if they would have implemented a free motion camera to view ship distance from shores in case you're a clumsy driver like my self.

They have now limited the weapon use and got rid of hammers, daggers, and other weapons leaves you with only swords, hidden blades (wich sucks in ac4) and pistols.

With almost no health you manage it to climb the ship mast and just before you reach the flag the protagonist jumps randomly down the mast and kills himself. Those moments have been frustrating to me. I can not imagine how a reviewer could give this game almost the same or even better score than GTA-V got.

Not that this franchise ever had a satisfying story it was always more about the characters. That being said I never connected with this character, previous protagonists especially Ezio had a personal matter setting them off into the world, this guy just wants to earn some money. I mean, that's nice for him but it doesn't make me sympathize or immerse.

As a cherry on top this game coming from a franchise which used to proud itself in its presentation of history contains almost no historical facts at all. Like, in the first 2 cities you have maybe 3 or 4 buildings you can check in the animus and that's pretty much it. All in all, this game made me really sad because of its pampering to the lowest common denominator.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Assassin's Creed IV Black-flag is very ambitious game that has a definite requirement for a good computer but if you play with a good PC the game play is very similar to Assassin's Creed 3 for it's ground combat it has the same annoying boss that are extremely difficult to fight no mater your strategy I find it way easier to shoot the person in the face and end the fight anti climatically. the naval combat is a huge upgrade from the hell of AC3 It is vary well polished but it still surprises me that Rogue was able to make it better. it's fluent and fast pace and really makes you want to be a pirate and take on a huge Man"o War for all it's metal. The story was huge disappointment Edward never seamed to show compassion for what was supposes to be heart throbbing moments only once did I really feel that there was one moment where I wanted revenge. then the fact that you don't become An official Assassin till the last three sequences, It's not called Pirates Creed it's called Assassin's Creed I expect to be an Assassin most of the game or a least more of a purpose then a pirate sailing around and stealing loot. I would have no problem if leading up to when you became an Assassin but change/ add more after that I don't care if I have let's say 22 sequences I loved playing the game and wanted more when it was over so give me more please. I think the game is a great sequel that has amazing graphics but needed more story to developed you as an Assassin, over all a very good game and very enjoyable Expand

Oddly, the rendered cut scenes seem to improve as the game progresses; advancements in tech during development? Don't listen to reviews complaining about low FPS, they are reviewing their own hardware and not the game. A game with less detail, fewer polygons, smaller textures, fewer models, less physics, etc. will have higher FPS on the same hardware. It has nothing to do with optimization and everything to do with there being more eye-candy. Tearing is eliminated with V-Sync. The open world and the ships are a beautiful work of art.

SEQUEL: This is the first Assassin's Creed game I have ever played, so I cannot compare the previous version with this one. There are negative reviews here saying it's just like the previous one, but with pirates and some improvements... Do they know what a sequel is?

GLITCHES/CRASHES: There were a couple of crashes though, and probably related to my multiple monitor setup and using V-Sync with monitors of different refresh rates... Don't judge me! It's as stable as my other games played the same way. Some "glitches" seemed intentional because it's supposed to be a "simulation", not real. Play Saints Row IV and you'll see what I mean by intentional glitches for effect.

CONTROLS: This is the only reason the game doesn't get a 10 for me. The "E" key is used for so many things it gets frustrating. Hiding in the bushes with a fresh corpse I just assassinated and another soon to be in front of me, I am faced with a few options for the "E" key: Assassinate, Whistle, Loot, and Carry. There are 4 things at the same time, and the "E" key can handle two because it will distinguish between holding and just typing "E". I was forced to loot my corpses to get that option removed, sometimes that didn't go so well. Also, running... I want to run, not climb every damn thing and slow me down. Maybe there is a way to run normal separate from free run that I haven't discovered yet, but if there isn't there should be. They would have to assign more keys to fix this, and they cannot do that on consoles. They would have to resort to some sort of selection cycling. But listen to what the complaint is... I have too many things my character can do. That's what makes it awesome.

The outside world in the big office building is a little distracting. I'd rather just do the "simulation" the entire time, but maybe that's part of the Assassin's Creed theme that makes it a sequel? Anyway, the whole office and hacking computers could be dumped. It's extra, and a distraction from the real game. No points lost for having extra.

After reading the first part of my review, you may be wondering how it got such a high score from me: It blew me away. The waves, the ships, the weather, epic sea battles, sword fights, guns, stealth, beautiful story line, excellent voice acting, harpoon fishing, swimming combined with spelunking, diving, treasure maps, cut scenes, huge open world map, beautiful imagery, this game has even more than that. The amount of work put into this... It is a masterpiece. I have 83 games in my steam inventory alone. I also use Origin and Uplay, and some games overlap. But of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of video games I have played in my life, this one is way up there with the wow factor. Amazed it was on sale for under $10. It rivals games I have bought for magnitudes more money. As with every purchase you make, buy it on sale. It's dumb to pay full price for anything.

I have played some AC games way back in the day on PS3. This is a free drop from Ubisoft Connect. The fundimental flaw of all AC games is that I am playing a game within a game. I played more than 100 hours in this game. I liked a lot of things, battles, pumping the ship and pumping the character. The weak points of this game are graphics, plot and sound. Mostly I am pleased with this game.

Most overrated Creed for me. I dont have the Assasin feeling from this one it just feels very not assasin. Naval combat gets boring after like hour and two. Still an assassins creed, some good characters and fun to play through just not as good as previous titles.

By far the best assassin's creed game. The pirate ship mechanics are unique and fun to play.

Neden bu oyuna bu kadar çoşuluyor anlamıyorum. Hayır yani 3. oyunda gemi mekaniklerinin aynısı var. Üstüne eklediği birkaç şey dışında hiçbir şey yok, ama insanlar 3'ü sevmeyip bunu seviyorlar.

Good game but bad assassin's creed game. Tying your shoes is more difficult than this game and there is no downside to being combat centered instead of stealth approach

While the story and on foot gameplay didn't engage me, the ship gameplay and combat made for a solid time waster of a game. Chill to just wander around the map collecting stuff.

There is a very minor optimization problem, but it can be overlooked..

6/10 Expand

Gave this game a 2 because:
    1. The game is unoptimized for PC, constant tearing, and FPS drop.
    2. The story is fine. It isn't that unique cause the characters you kill, They say something that sound really boring. 3. Stealth is dumbed-down into a point where trailing missions are actually fun than just killing people with your sword. 4. Gameplay is the same, except Ubisoft made it

    3. Stealth is dumbed-down into a point where trailing missions are actually fun than just killing people with your sword.
    4. Gameplay is the same, except Ubisoft made it worse. The animators created the worst finishing moves and attacking moves in the history of gaming. Kenway just stabs a British Soldier with the worst sound fx i also heard. Just a stab to the right and a stab to the left. In AC3, there are variety of choices in the game to kill your guy, and amazing animations. It doesn't get me bored unlike in AC4.
    5. Trailing Missions: This is explained by videogamedunkey, where half of the game is just trailing missions, It's generic, and boring. You just follow this dude, kill or tail another guy.
    6. Optional Objectives. This mechanic really annoyed me throughout the AC franchise playthrough, Ubisoft said it is "Optional" so it is up to the player if they want to do it or not. But Ubisoft shames them with a 50% Sync rate. It feels like you are being forced to do the Optional Objectives, and those objectives are really frusturating to the point where you just said: **** you ****ersoft, I'm doing it my way."

    And conclusion:
The game is really boring and the same, there's nothing unique and it feels generic. Ubisoft didn't add anything new to the game, while the Game Critics sits there and start writing a review for a game that didn't even come out yet. It took me 3 days to beat the game because it just felt boring.

AC4 is one of those "if they gave it one-two more years, it would've been a masterpiece" situations. This is pretty much the best Assassin's Creed game of the pre-Unity generation, combining great story, a lived-in open world and innovation to create a uniquely fun action experience. A good assassin, with a good plot, is held in one breath, a large world of beautiful locations.

Didn't like many aspects on gameplay, too much tailing and boring puzzles, but the thematic and all the ambience was really cool, a plus for pirate's songs.

    说实话,这一部不错的刺客信条,海战与海盗元素十分新颖。 但任务很无聊,画质很不好,优化太烂。

Ironically enough for a game which centers around the concept of genetic ancestry, however, it continually lets itself down by refusing to break away from its own tired and worn-out heritage,

Fans that were bummed out by Assassin’s Creed III will most likely find Black Flag to be a welcoming return to what they love about the series, with a great story, amazingly crafted world and smart additions to the sailing that make it a refreshing part of the Assassin’s Creed formula.

Makes up for the failings of AC3, delivering a fantastic, engaging open world experience. [Jan 2014, p.78]
