Other then the que's(which will be fixed with time) this game is exactly what the NA needed instead of all these WoW clones we get an awesome game! The graphic are decent, the game play is great and the PvP is even better. Try this game and see for yourself.

Pretty decent game, if you can get in of course (it's more popular than expected apparently). The cash shop is fair, you can pay for slightly faster progression but you can't pay for better equipment. Quests are standard MMO fare but crafting, trading and open world PVP are far superior to many other games.

I Haven't enjoyed an MMO this much since UO! Headstart has its problems... we're talking queues here, but the gameplay is an absolute delight once you actually get onto a server!

I'm hooked. It's theme park elements introduce the sandbox elements as well as intended. Crafting is big and purposeful. The world is immersive, dangerous, and beautiful.

Really an awesome all-around sandbox style mmo. A lot of fun. Sure some hiccups but great nonetheless.
The fact that you can pvp, go fishing, own a house, own a farm or just quest makes it heads and shoulders above everything else that's out there. To top if off, it's a beautifully rendered game. Very enjoyable.

ArcheAge is a really strong game with sandbox elements and interesting combat mechacis. It's probably the most solid "virtual world MMO out there.

Don't pay any attention to the retards reviewing here because they don't understand MMO launches - they're not even scoring the game.

Gameplay is great IF YOU KNOW WHAT A SANDBOX MMO IS. There's a vast amount of things to do and I haven't ran into any bugged quests or glitches yet (Level 48 of 50 presently). There's ships to sail, open world PvP, trading, light PvE content. Make no mistake though, this is a full on PvP game at its center.

This game has great attention to detail. Animations are lifelike, dynamic seasons and weather.

Some things folks may not like: This game requires a subscription. Sure, you can opt to pay as a F2P user, but you are throttled way back and will be used as cannon fodder until you pay. Think of the pay options in AA to be more like older try before you buy style of pay models. You can play for free, but until you pay for it you will never amount to anything... which is fine by me.

Lots of kids and freeloaders will not like this system... but then again, AA is not a game for casuals or for people who don't have an income. It is insanely time-intensive and you have to invest time and effort to get things done. F2P users rarely like to invest anything into any game... and as we have seen so far, they don't generally like it because... well, this isn't a freeware carebear simulator like they're used to.

Overall, I love this game... There's a lot to do and if you can afford $15 a month, it is a truly awesome experience. If you refuse to buy a patron pass (monthly sub), you will be farmed, you won't own land, your gear will be 10 levels behind everything else in the game that drops and you can't even use the auction house to fix that problem. If you want a F2P game... go play something like Rift or SWTOR. In those games you have a chance at being somebody. In AA, you will be farmed, you will die a lot and there is nothing you can do about it until you stop whining and sub like everyone else.

Okay so let me point something out here guys.
the company that is releasing the English version of this game is not responsible for patches that you don't like, rather they are responsible for the servers and translation on the game. The original game came from Korea.
So if you have any complaints, go learn Korean and talk to the actual game developers.

I've now played for a few weeks and I'm still loving it. The issues are sorted out now mostly and the game is settling into a nice rhythm.

This is not Rift and it's not WoW. It's more like Eve Online but in a fantasy world. The "end game" is the player economy: Trading/PVPing over limited wealth and resources. Trade is difficult as you need to transport goods as well as craft them.

The "end game" is the player economy: Trading/PVPing over limited wealth and resources. Trade is difficult as you need to transport goods as well as craft them. The aim should be to move from lugging everything around yourself to mass production and carrying vehicles as well as other players.

As a free to player it's a fully fledged linear themepark MMO like WoW and Rift though you can't own land and have limited trade ability. As a Patron you can own land and trade freely opening the game up as a non linear "sandbox" experience.

Patron status (subscription) does not give you free land just the ability to purchase and use land. Giving land to Patron's would be tantamount to pay to win as the game is meant to be driven by players selling to players.

Patrons definitely get major economic advantages over non patrons however this isn't a pay to win system as you can purchase patron status with in game gold via purchasing Apex (game credits) off other players.

If you don't like crafting and player economies, if you don't like PVP, if you want to spend most of your time solo gaming this isn't the game for you.

Essentially where ESO is a Themepark in a sandbox skin, ArcheAge is a snandbox in a themepark skin. Deceptively linear to new comers who then get very annoyed with it's sandbox non linear player based gameplay later on.

It's clear that the developers want this game to succeed.

It's big, beautiful and better than ESO, that's for sure. I'm still playing for free and don't see why so many people think it's "pay2win." You can have a lot of fun as a free player and not even think about paying unless you want to get serious about playing the game. At which point... why wouldn't you pay?

I think people are misunderstanding what is necessary to run an MMO. It's hard, expensive and time consuming. There must be incentive to pay, and I honestly wish more games would go back to an exclusive subscription plan. As someone who played Ultima, EVE and City of Heroes for several years, I don't see why you shouldn't expect to dish out for the full experience. Don't be afraid to pay for a game you like, and you will be rewarded for it. Stop expecting great MMOs to be free, and you might actually have some fun.

ArcheAge as a game is something completely new, yet very recognizeable. One can follow the good old quest hubs along with instances, groups and eventually arenas, like in many other MMO's. Or you can do whatever you want to once the tutorial is completed, and this kind of freedom (building houses, joining pirate guilds, becoming an outlaw or even prison escaping) is an immersion few other MMORPG's has succeeded to achieve. Guild Wars 2 tried, but was more a theme park pretending to be a sandbox, with no real "randomness" to the system at all.

This game is moreso not more pay to win than other games. Yes, you can buy mounts, just like in other MMO's. Yes, you have the possibility to buy potions that replenish your "labor points" (used for crafting and the likes) if you want to. That is IF you spend the majority of time crafting rather than pvp'ing, exploring and questing. There is therefore no real way to pay for "winning" as there is nothing to win.

The biggest gripe of disappointment comes from how Trion managed the game, the servers and how the paying customers were, and still are treated, which is totally justifiable. A terrible launch of a fantastic game, by a company I did NOT expect such utter greed from.

Give ArcheAge a chance and I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed. That is, if you make it past the 4+ hour queue.

I can see people disliking this game because they can't get into it. You have to be kind, rude, bastard, lovely.. all the things in this game. If you can't pull that out, you may fail miserably. It is a brand new WILD WEST! This game allows people to be true pirates, cheat and scam in anyway (that game mechanics allow) and also you can choose to be the hero.

This game is the best thing happened in MMO genre in ages. There is so much to do that it is almost hard to stay questing and leveling up (questing is fastest way to level up). You can get xp from pretty much every thing you do, craft, mine, harvest.. you name it. The housing system is interesting and well thought out. Farming plants etc is great and I especially love how you have to find your secret location to plant some trees and hope no one will find and steal them (if you don't have your own secure farm). Guard them and when the time is right harvest them.

Also there is no end game, not in pve nor pvp (...well the pvp is kind of a end game). You just do what you want, be the biggest bastard or the greatest hero out there!

THIS GAME IS NOT PAY TO WIN. PLAY IT FIRST BEFORE JUDGING!

I cant understand all the whining about pay to win, this game has nothing to do with pay to win elements. There is none! YES founders got houses first, but it does not mean you will never get one. You can earn gold in so many ways in this game that eventually you are able to buy the house or even find a location. HOUSE does not equal = WIN. YOU DON'T NEED A HOUSE!

After the glut of endless WOW clones that force you into narrow mazes and dangle carrots you can't avoid, Archeage comes along and gives the player the freedom to explore at their own pace in any way they like. You can choose to follow the scripted story, but you certainly don't have to. You can build your character to suit your style of play in a system that offers huge customization, choosing from a large number of classes, three of which you can combine to create one of some 120 different classes, each with unique underlying skills that make it possible that your character won't be just like anyone elses.

It's true that right now there are large lines waiting to get into this game. Until enough servers are brought on line to handle the games huge popularity, this is the games largest problem. The claims that the game is pay to win is strictly the opinion of the under ten year old crowd. "Winning" in this perfectly open sandbox with a huge world to explore is the perspective of someone immature and too slow witted to understand that a game like this is not "won:- it is a world to live in and explore and enjoy. This sandbox is about the journey.

There are several aspects of Archeage that raise it up above all other modern MMOs for me as a long time player of these things. As a gaming conceptual designer myself, I look for a game design that offers creative, thinking choices. I don't want to be told what to do, I want to decide what direction I go, myself.

    1. While the game has an excellent, deep class creation system and a fine combat system for pvp, that is only a small fraction of "what there is to do" in this game.

    2. The system's economy, crafting system and natural environment used to acquire raw materials are the best I've very seen in a PC game. There is so very much to create, and there is such a variety of types of crafting that it's a whole game unto itself.

    3. The water/seafaring elements and the air travel offer the best looking and feeling environments of any PC game I've played. Finding undersea shipwrecks and flying onto otherwise unreachable peaks have never felt so adventuresome in any other game. The simple amount of custom detail in the world is beyond belief.

    4. Cities are truly remarkable in the attention to details. This game is a roleplayer's paradise, as it'squite possible to get lost in the endless streets, all of which have custom shops, vast numbers of nocs ad even explorable rooftops with interesting and varied architecture. When I was sent on a quest to find some hidden harpy nesting areas up in the city rooftops, it felt like a real mystery, with hundreds of rooftops and ledges and nooks and crannies. Capturing this sense of real space up above the action areas below made the city seem remarkably real. It's very sad that so many players rush through the quests in their mad race to try and reach level 50 that they miss the entire point of the journey- and those are exactly the people blabbering about this beautiful masterpiece of a game being a "pay to win". Winning in ArcheAge simply requires slowing down, opening your eyes and looking at the world around you.

    5. The world is truly magnificent to look at. Where a game like Skyrim has moments that are pretty, everything about ArcheAge is not only beautiful, but also aesthetically tasteful. The characters have grace when they stand. They not only look fantastic in a photo, but they move with a wonderful, realistic sense of romantic realism, which Skyrim lacked. It's not just the technology- it's also endless attention to being perfect on the part of the designers. It's good taste. The mountains in ArcheAge seem real, and they don't feel like they are blocking off areas- they seem natural.

    6. There are no artificial boundaries. You can see everywhere. There aren't transitions. Some places are crystal clear and you can see for miles, but some islands are jungle like and thick with mists so you can't see ten feet. It's wonderful.

    7. There is no lag on my medium quality machine. I don't know how this is possible, but this game runs perfectly- in all it's beauty and with a whole world to explore at the same time there are thousands of others on too. It is a remarkable achievement in this regard.

    8. Housing is robust and not an afterthought. There are tons and tons of furnishings. Much you can make. There is a whole island where you can buy stuff for your house, and like old UO from ages ago, land is at a premium, making housing valuable.

ArcheAge is designed for creative, thinking players.

Other than the questing, which of course is themepark style, the rest of the world is yours to craft, claim, and conquer. First off I would like to address the basics. The graphics are stunning for a massive game such as Archeage, running on Cryengine 3™. The game features the latest Direct X 11 tech, with good sliders and optimization, so you can get the game looking great, and performing just as well. The sound gets the job done, with a great subtle touch of harmonious music, which seems to come from a good composer. Combat is standard tab targeting affair with GCD's, etc. It has an old school feel to it, but when you add in cry engine 3 that old school feel is still very much alive and even more fluid than ever by utilizing smooth animations. Questing is centered around different hubs in and out of zones, standard mmo practice, but don't let that deter you. They have created a system which allows you to turn in quest early (not a good idea), or you can overachieve them by performing a few extra kills, or tasks (highly recommended), which in turn grant more exp. One of the bigger factors of the game revolves around PvP (which is absolutely incredible) as two factions at war are in a constant struggle to claim dominance. You will fight on the land, you will fight in the air, and you will fight in the vast ocean as you help your faction rid its foe. Kills grant honor points which can be spent on purchasing various things, most of which are unique only to the honor system. A simple trek across the ocean with some friends seeking sunken treasure, can lead to being raided by pirates (which is a third faction, more on that soon*). You never really feel safe outside of your home continent, which in turn creates a feeling of suspense, you never know when someone is out to get you. Now don't get me wrong this can lead to some frustrating moments for some, such as making a trade run across the ocean only to be raided for your trade pack and lose all that hard earned potential profit, but that is the beauty of this game. Bad luck can instantaneously shift into great fortune, for example, let's say you are with your guild mates and you lose a couple trade packs to some pirates, you put up a good fight, but the battle is lost and now you all are left empty handed. Sadly making your way back home, you encounter a merchant ship loaded with trade packs, but heavily unguarded, being upset from being raided you decide to get some revenge on this poor soul. After sending him to Davy Jones Locker, all of those precious trade packs are yours for the taking. So this run you lost a couple packs, but on the way back you ended up looting double what you originally had. These kind of player interactions is what makes this game so intriguing. You seriously never know what will happen on any given day whilst out braving the waters. This game doesn't stop at questing and pvp, not even close. The amount of things to craft, gather, and collect can seem overwhelming at times due to the labor point system. Which is a system set in place that limits someones ability to farm materials for hours on end flooding the market, and creating more opportunities for gold sellers. The system that is set up works like this, just about everything you do non combat and quest related takes labor points. For example, say you find an aspen tree growing illegally (Yes there is illegal crops/farms, which can get you thrown in jail if caught stealing crops) in order to cut the tree down you will need to spend a few labor points, in this case given an aspen tree, it will be around 10 points. The people who enjoy the game enough to subscribe monthly are given patron status which nets you 10 labor points every 5 minutes while online, and 5 points every 5 minutes while offline. Free to play users will get 5 labor points every 5 minutes only while online. Upon hearing about this system prior to actually playing the game, i will say i was turned off. I decided to overlook this feature and try the game anyhow, and boy am i glad i did. This system has many great uses to help stop gold farmers in their tracks. Will it completely prevent gold selling? No, of course not but it is a great system in place to make it much harder for them. If you are a patron, you will notice labor points are not actually that big of a deal, because whenever you are running low on them, you can take a break and do some questing, pvp, trade runs, etc, and before you know it you are back to nice comfortable amount ready to start burning through them once again. There is so much more to this review i feel i could take up pages and minutes of your time, but the bottom line is this folks. If you yearn for the old days of SWG, and even Ultima online, this is the game you want to grab some buddies, get some coffee & snacks, and prepare to lose yourself in this vast, seemingly unparalleled virtual world.
TLDR; Play this game! *No room to cover the pirates

If your bread and butter is theme park MMOs, avoid this title. There's a questline that will take you to 50, but it's only there to get you to 50 easily. If any of this sounds interesting, its a game to try out.

Been playing since earliest beta and still enjoying every bit of the game. 90% of these negative reviews are somewhat of a joke and flat out inaccurate. A lot of angries who aren't into PvP clearly and write hilarious reviews, so if that's not what you're into, possibly avoid. All aside, a game you can really get into and enjoy, just not for everybody.

The *GAME* itself, once you make it through the insanely long queue, is amazing. As a 17-year veteran of Mmorpgs, I can honestly say that this is the freshest experience I've had in many years. I get the giddy old-school vibe I received from DAOC. The world is highly interactive and feels like you're a citizen in a virtual world, not just a human behind a computer screen. I haven't made it too crazy-far yet, but I really like what I see.

I am giving this game a 10-star review to try to help counteract the immature 0 star reviews. My honest feeling so far, based on quality of gaming experience, is a solid 8.5/10.

There is nothing in this game that's pay-to-win and anyone that tells you differently does not know the definition of pay-to-win. Crippling free players and making them go through ridiculous loops in order to progress is an example of pay-to-win; not labor boost potions (that have a 12 hour cooldown) and patron status that give paying customers more labor points that you yourself already regenerate at a moderate speed and the former of which you can buy with in-game currency! Not to mention, everyone has a 2000 labor point cap so it's not like you can even stack them up even if you had thousands of dollars to spend.

I have no idea why all these people are lashing out at this game (maybe because servers are queued up at the moment) but this game is without a doubt the best mmo in the industry right now. There's so much more emphasis on player interactions and the world than any other mmo has to offer at the moment, and it has been a blast to play. It really is the mmo I've been waiting for. I would have rated it a 9/10 if not for all these idiots that haven't even played the game and are slapping a 0 rating on it for no god damn reason. Do yourself a favor and disregard all these nonsensical negative reviews, and play the game and see for yourself.

They can steal your trees, but if they get caught, they get in court. This game is awesome! And in no way Pay2Win, you can get everything in-game as you can in the cash shop, even more in-game. The Cash shop is mainly for cosmetics, and then there's a few things you can exchange in game gold to cash shop, and buy Patron and APEX!

This game is easy to pick up, but very hard to master! Making it something to work for and enjoy along the way. One thing I have loved about this game is that it gives you so many options to choose your path and create your way... Whether that be through trade routes, renting or selling land, being a pirate, PVP, stealing or committing crime, questing, grinding, crafting, stealthy missions or simply taking on adventure you can become somewhat unique.

I guarantee after finishing your early quests and becoming familiar with how the game works you will enjoy yourself for countless hours.

This game is the closest thing to a spiritual successor to Ultima Online you're going to get in a current game, and a ton of EVE online players are switching to Archeage due to it's incredibly deep resource gathering and crafting system as well as player run economy and trade runs.

The PVP is awesome - open world PVP, the crime system is fun. If you do crime and get caught, you will go before a jury of other players that decide your fate and the amount of jail time you receive. Yes, the land is finite (as it should be in any game with a player run economy) *GASP* land is actually worth something? My lord!! what shall we ever do. If you wanted a game that you simply zone into an instance to place a home, go play another game. Homes and farms in this game exist in the ever evolving game world as they should in an open sandbox game such as this.

Ultimately- this game is just fun. I haven't had more fun in an MMO since Ultima Onlne and for any old UO players - please give it a chance. It's not exactly the same but you will find alot of similarities and many new things that are welcome in my mind as well.

Also- for those QQing about not being able to do anything without subscribing... this isn't true. You need to be a patron to place and own land. There are a few other benefits as well. This doesn't mean that you can't play the game for free perfectly fine until you decide whether or not you want to subscribe or continue as F2P. Many people I play with pay their monthly fees with gold as an alternative option if you are really that cheap. Spending 15 dollars a month on an MMO subscription is cheaper than buying a new release game (at 60 bucks a pop) every few months.

Anyways... download the client and give the game a chance. It's free.. what have you got to lose?

Pay to win? You can buy everything that sells in the cash shop for gold and myself personally, in 2 weeks of playing this game, have made enough gold to buy 6 months worth of patron. I've also been able to buy land, boats, farmers cart, and lots of other things all from starting as f2p player. But yes, there is a cash shop. Lots of games nowadays have cash shops, and the ones that don't still have tons of real money transactions that go on behind the scenes. whether players realize it or not.

Typical MMO that offers nothing new? Probably the silliest thing I've read, considering 99.9 percent of mmos out there are exactly the same and Archeage is one of the few that actually offers NEW experiences that are fun and interesting. I could list out all of the things in Archeage that are completely new to mmos but its just too long...

Anyways, I really love this game. I think its the most fun I've had in an mmo since EQ1. The only real downside, as others have said, is the problem with hackers/botters. They're making what would already be difficult (getting land), into an impossible task for some. Trion has stated that they have some things in the works to alleviate this problem so hopefully they know what they're doing. Either way, if the game dies tommorow, I'll walk away from it feeling positive about it because I've just had so much fun.

I'm reading so much bad about this game but I'm thinking initial problems have been ironed out, one major issue I've come to read about which has stuck with the game, is the idea that it had become pay to win. I'll admit, wielding a creditcard speeds up things, since you can translate that into in-game gold. But that's not different from any other MMO, where gold is attainable through either official in-game sources ( like here ) or via outside sources. Paying a monthly fee gives you a worthwhile edge If you plan to invest a lot of time in the game, and the monthly fee can be attained by buying a certain item from in-game currency, so total free to play with the same edge as people who paid the monthly fee is attainable. For casual gamers I think pure free to play is certainly possible. There are some tips on Youtube videos I'd advice to check out when you start out, but finding out yourself mite be the way to go for you. I'm experiencing the game from the youngest European server. I think this has a say on how I experience the game, hardcore people aren't yet at top gear and I'm guessing it'll still take some time to get there . For me it has been a pleasure all the way, I think I've spent a bit above 100 hours currently. I hope to see more people giving the game great reviews, because It's very obvious the game has taken big hits from the early days, and people who haven't tried the game think it's not the good game it actually is.

Want to PvP? Yes. Want to farm? Yes. Want to trade? Yes. Want to own and decorate your house? Yes. Place your house in an organic, non-snap on way? Yes. Want to roleplay in a deep lore-set environment? Yes. Want to explore gorgeous fantasy scenery? Hell Yes.

I've been playing ArcheAge since late Alpha, and while it has had its growing pains it's one of the best MMOs on the market right now. I'm at 16 years of Ultima Online and I've hardly touched UO since AA came out. The housing is great, the skill trees are pretty interesting and combine in many ways, the ships are fantastic...

It's just an overall great game.

This game is amazing. most of these negative reviews are from the past. The game got new developers and this game is no more pay to win than WoW. Amazing game, Personally the best mmoprg for me, recently most p2w elements were complete removed and added a new gear and system where you can progress fast and enjoy the game. This game is better if you come to play with friends, solo might seem too tiring for a new player

This game is getting alot of bad reviews due to people been unhappy with the quality of the support and servers on launch. This is ridiculous, every mmo has a bad launch. This doesn't make it a bad game, as give it a week everything will be stable. If we were to judge the game as it was in my experience in the head start. All the negative, and in my opinion biased and unfair reviews that are bashing this game really helped to motivate me. As an individual who just spent 12 hours playing this game after finding out about it a few days ago, i can say i'm very impressed.

While questing is completely theme park, the later openness of the world and the complexity of the housing and farm system seem very promising. It's not going to be a game for everyone, and if what people are saying regarding the buggy head start phase that sucks, but other than a 2 hour log in queue (which on launch day, isn't incredibly insane) i haven't had a bad experience with this game, and i'll undoubtedly continue to play it.

just keep in mind that I don't think the game functions very well on a f2p model, and I've personally chosen to support it on a sub, the extra labor points are a huge help, and i think its worth it for a game already fleshed out with so much content on launch. And people whining about pay to win don't know what they're talking about, most the stuff you can buy related to cosmetics, with only a few crafting items that do things like instantly provide labor points existing on the real money market; those function off a cool down I think so you cant spam them.

It's not a full 10 stars cause hey, the game does have some issues I hope will be iron out with time. I've noticed some weird texture issues in places and their is a clipping or a rubber-banding effect sometimes when i dash. That being said I've really enjoyed my play so far, and am super excited for end game content.

This is wrong, Everything you can get in the Marketplace is obtainable in the game for free if you choose to get it.

Either way! Let start! Why do I give the game a 9.

    1. I'm not rating the game on how the launch is going, cause as most mmo veterans know, 99% of all launches will be horrible, people will scream for compensation etc. Only thing I wish was allot better was Scapes, his doing a Really bad Community manager job, his not posting any info to us for like 8-12 hours apart, and we have 0 info on whats going to happen in the future.

2.The game it self, is Incredible. Why is it Incredible? well the graphics , when you enter the game for the first time, you will see huge mountains, lush fields, and mind blowing lighting from the Cryengine 3 Archeage is running.
The flow of the game is incredible.

    3. The questing. The quests in AA isn't anything special, the story quests ends suddenly at level 28-31 and your left to complete non story quests. But there are quests to take you all the way to max level. Pretty easy and can be done in 30-50 hours , depending on your play style and hardcoreness.

4.Sandbox, well what is a sandbox? Well I define a sandbox game as giving me the options to do what I please at any level and can still have fun. This is the part that makes Archeage stand out from the other mmos. Lets say at level 12, you want to look at crafting and farming? well just do it, Place your farm(you need to be a paying costumer), or be a risk taker and plant a secret farm and see if your able to collect on it! You can build a house at level 12, you can build a boat! you can craft armor sets , or any other craft able item as long as you take your time and skill it up.

You can run around for hours, exploring the mountains, trying to find peoples secret farms, and steal it from them! you can try to swim out in the ocean and island jump and try to find treasures on the ocean floor!. The game gives you All the choices in the world.

5.Paying costumer, for Farms / houses etc. Well as XLgames (the developer) has stated, that owning land is not supposed to be for everyone. That means there are a limited places to put down your farms and houses. That opens for a Rel-estate selling etc driving the economy. That basically means if F2p players would have the chance to plant there wouldn't be a single spot left. EVEN THO, Trion/XLgames screwed up big time on the launch not restricting every account to 1 house only the first week or so. so most plots are taken, there are more plots available just not in the ocean zones ;P

The game over all is good, people who cry about Pay 2 win etc, have most likely just read what other people has said, or they just don't pay money to play games that costs ALLOT of make. The cash shop does not give a single advantage and well they are pretty much just trolling, and mad About the QUE.

Give AA 2-3 more weeks and the dust has settled and all the crying spoiled kids has moved to another game.

SO a Sum up! IF you like huge games, with massive pvp battles, farming, 120 class etc, Go give AA a try, play it for free, and if you like it, and plan to stick with it, go subscribe, then you can play the game to its fullest!

    Hope this helpes!

Seeing as this is an mmorpg I'm assuming putting time in is something you plan to do, otherwise, don't play an mmorpg and expect to be successful economically.

That is the only con in my opinion. It is a rather small con to me as well.

The queue complainers seem to have not been around for the release of a large budget mmo before so in my eyes their opinion can sort of be disregarded. Queues are to be expected at certain times of the day until players settle in to the game. Queues will dwindle down, they always do. Its launch week guys, come on.

With all of that said, this is the best mmorpg I've seen released in year. I'm a big mmo fan, played all the popular titles and I'd say most of the underground ones. This is the first mmo to give me the wonder and urge to play as UO and vanilla-BC wow. Aside from the farming/housing and naval warfare, this game makes me feel like I'm playing a shinier vanilla wow. Take that as you will. Some may say its bad. It may be exactly what others are looking for. If it is, give this game a go and see for yourself.

Want to know what ArcheAge is really like? Avoid metacritic. Go to places like the ArcheAge reddit, Massively, and others to clue in on what the game is like. For what its worth, I'll throw my two cents.

ArcheAge is the first MMO to actually pull me in and keep me engaged. Its very similar to Eve-online in structure, yet has a traditional MMO/questing backdrop. The entire world is open and seamless - hardly any instances or loading screens. Exploration is a huge factor. The combat system is standard, mundane even.. but it has a pretty good feel to the animations and the combo system combined with the great class system make it fun. Like EvE, certain regions are more dangerous than others - open PvP zones.

I'm just going to address all the complaints people have on here with the hard facts. You'll have to determine yourself if you can trust the review spam.

Pay to win: Have you ever noticed, EVERY single F2P game ever released has an onslaught of people with no access to a credit card complaining about pay to win? These are people who eat their cake and yet want it too - people who want the entire game to be free and otherwise wouldn't have even bothered looking at all if it had a paywall. Its the same situation for ArcheAge. It really isn't pay to win. Free players can literally do anything, even OWN PATRON STATUS (which buffs labor generation, shorter queues, allows you to own land, and sell on the auction house) if they buy patron status using 2 APEX - think PLEX from EvE Online. If you are a half decent trader, quester, or high level player this really isn't that hard to get. APEX currently costs around 38 gold to get. Just spending a few short hours getting to level 10 hanging around in starting zones and I'm already at 1.5 gold. And I've not even touched stuff that makes you rich, like trading (up to 11g+ per run).

So does the labor generation make it pay to win? Not really. If you are questing, your labor spend is going to be so low that you'll never run out of labor. Labor is mostly a drain if you get heavy into vocational activities, such a farming, building houses, mining, etc. And even then there are potions you can buy with in-game gold to boost your labor. Questing followed by PvP/Endgame raids is the bread and butter of any MMO, and ArcheAge is fully featured and not stunted at all when it comes to this for all players. Owning land isn't necessary at all to play the game, its just a nice perk of being a paying member and it lets you plant farms that can't get uprooted (that you can use for crafting). I don't think its unreasonable to have to pay $15/mo for the ability to get serious into vocational activities, and you don't even need to do that if you make enough money in-game to pay for it yourself.

Servers: Yes the server situation is **** but its the same for every MMO launch. They can't just open a ton of new servers because then servers would be a ghost town in two months - this is bad since you can't merge servers in ArcheAge due to each server being a persistent world with player own homes, land, territory, etc. The queues will die down after a week or two.

Whining of founders packages being worth less than starter packages: I don't really see it. A founder who paid $150 got 11,000 gold, a handful of exclusive items and EARLY ACCESS TO THE GAME FOR MONTHS and patron status for months. Meanwhile people can buy a $150 starter package right now, that only gets you 1,500 gold, but a bunch of vanity items (potentially) worth more than 11,000 gold and patron status. The former gave you early access and the choice of what to spend all your gold on, the latter only gives a small amount of gold and a bunch of items you probably don't need. Where are the founders getting screwed again?

So, if anyone's gotten this far into the review good job. Look over the actual facts before you trust metacritic user reviews. Look over the features of the game, and the above information if it sounds like its for you. Personally, paying $15/mo and nothing else for one of the best MMO's I've played that has made me actually want to stick around is a steal. Even if you can't afford to pay anything for ArcheAge there is a ton of unrestricted value here for free players - ALL of PvE and PvP features are completely free to access right out of the gate for all players. There's no leveling grind that is unbearable to work with if you are free (all players level at the same rate and its just like a normal MMO here), there are no items that make you win that you can only get with $$$, there is no restricted quests/raids/content (other than owning land) between free or paid. The only thing paid players get over free in gameplay is the ability to own land, and able to do vocational activities more intensely. Why is that so bad?

    2. Queue times. Shame on trion for being so slow to add servers. BUT understand at least they're trying not to spam servers and end up with ghost servers.

    3. Labor makes the player driven economy work. Those stating removing labor is the thing to do, don't even try and state why removing labor won't completely destroy the economy that is COMPLETELY BUILT AROUND HAVING LABOR BEING A LIMITED AMOUNT.
Diablo 3 Auction house DIED because constant printing of gear, without any limits. Its a fundamental economic value, IF YOU WANT A GOOD ECONOMY YOU CAN'T HAVE INFINITE PRODUCTION.

    4. Those stating its a PVP farm free players game, seem to be dumber than a box of rocks. Free or not, if you have even an ounce of intelligence, you'd understand going into a WAR ZONE (they label what status the zone is at VERY WELL) is going to get you killed. Simple concept right? I guess reading is to much to ask. And makes the game horrible when it requires you to read a big banner.

The game is gorgeous and gliding is just fantastic. Enemies, animations, the environment, lighting, all look really good, shiny, and realistic. Each zone is unique but the flow is natural for the most part. It does have roads and "passes" that you generally enter a zone with. BUT it doesn't take too much effort to find a pass up a mountain and glide off from the top to your destination in the next zone, and NO Loading screens.

Crafting is huge, the best gear is crafted and can be purchased with large sums of gold. Making gold is your key to success in this game (as opposed to raiding in most other MMOs). You can literally get the best gear by focusing all of your efforts on becoming the best fisherman ever and selling your wares to then buy the best gear with gold. No other game affords this freedom in the same way. This world feels realistic, despite being virtual and though limitations (Labor) exist and you may have to go through a bit of grinding to get to where you want to be, it will pay off.

Some features that I don't like would be generic quests, although I am used to these and it really is just an excuse for combat. This is not a PvE centered game though, I am level 35 and haven't done a single quest in 5 levels. The Combat is fun ( it's tab target) but I have come to realize that tab target is my preferred combat style. Aiming isn't something I find to be fun in general. That being said, it is different than say, WoW, due to the complexity of the Combo system. The Combo system and slightly longer cooldowns will require more thinking on the fly as to how to best use the skills available to you. It adds an apsect of "Tact" that is missing from certain tab target rpgs where you constantly rotate the same skills.

I could go on about the awesome farming, Trial system, piracy, Trade pack runs (intense), class building and others. The point is, while this game won't be for the instant gratification crowd, nor will it be for Action lovers. This is still very much an RPG, but one that excels in playing the role YOU want to play, not the role the game has designed for your class or profession. Player interactions are the end game, which leaves much replay-ability in it's design. You won't get sick of running the same dungeons over and over, because your experience will never be the same each time you login.

I haven't put a dollar into the game, and a few friends and I are having a blast leveling. The quests at times feel like they just hand xp everywhere, other times offers variations of things to do, places to see. The places to see are absolutely gorgeous. Never a dull area to look at.

I've touched on crafting, and its complex. Haven't seen a system like this since Star Wars Galaxies "Nilla". This brings in a sense of achievement when leveling the profession you desire to become. I've contemplated the very odd life of "maybe all i want to do is own a farm and farm for other players." This really sucks you into the atmosphere of the game. Granted to do this, it is going to cost a little real cash. However, $ didnt stop me from playing masterpiece games of old such as Ultima Online, which had very similar design qualities as Archeage, only with a sub. I paid that $15 sub for 4 years, and all I did in that game was bake.

If you are looking for a very immersive world, with great combat gameplay, a deep level of customization and a lot of pretty "oo's" and "aw's" then Archeage is the title you've been waiting for. The only gripe I have for the game is not being able to move through other players while questing. I do get stuck in a crowd a lot, but its easy to get out with a glider. Just a minor annoyance. Archeage stands as a testament to the original MMO models: "sandbox" with other people. 9/10.

Trion can not open a massive amount of servers due to the fact there is not instanced land. The land is an important part of the economy, and is limited in how much there is, land is a commodity. Trion can not just flood servers full of land into the game for it's initial rush. If Trion was to do that, the land would be purchased, and then in the future, when the honeymoon/rush if over and server merges had to happen, some people would lose the land. Remember, land is high value in ArcheAge. To lose your land would be a huge blow to a player who had worked hard to get and keep their land.

The people whining are those in a queue, which I admit is long at this time, and to impatient to wait to enter the game.

Those who are Patrons (subscribers who pay the monthly fee for the game), do get priority over those who are F2P. There is still a queue even for Patrons as the game is in it's FIRST week of release.

ArcheAge is a fantastic game undeserving of these bad angry people who are upset they have to wait in a queue for a new MMO.

The CS has been lacking, and yes, there have been issues, the queue being one of them, BUT, the game is really good.

There are quite a few people waiting the 3000 queue to play in different servers which doubles my queue time for them.

Apart from that, this is the most fun mmorpg I have played!!! There are many great features, starting: 'Be who you want'. You can be who you want, there are over 100 classes due to mix and match, when you reach level 10 and have selected 3 skillsets you will be given a class that you are. For example Archer, Battle~(warrior) and sorcerer will make something different from archer, shadowplay and occultism. There is more to 'be who you want to be' than that. The game offers many different jobs, you can be a jury, farmer, ferryman and charge people money for your services! That's not it though, there is a lot more.

Next, combat! I think the combat system is the typical button mashing abilities but that gameplay does not bore me, the moves you pull of are satisfying in a way for, some of them look flashy and scream out to the mob 'You're going to be my B***h'. There are many skillsets so there will be MANY different abilities and each character you have will be different.

You can also fly in this game and have mounts! Unlike in many games you get them pretty early and the first one for free! There are items for mounts too and you have the ability to level them (Which leads to people running in circles, increasing queue time). You also get a glider, free of charge and it's really great to see this in a game, you get it early, for free and it looks magnificent, gliding through the air.

Do not let the negativity blind you, the barrier for the queue may be a strong one, but when you are past it, the world which will unfold in front of you is a beautiful one.

To be honest the levelling is to lvl 30 is quite tedious but the game really opens up after that. The patron system is how the game is meant to be played(15$ a month sub)
It allows land ownership, labour point regen the way it’s meant to be (Labour points are used in basically every part of the game, especially crafting) and most importantly you don’t share queue times with Free-to-Players ,enabling you to log on immediately.

From a paying person standpoint, this is a great game, from a non paying standpoint, you won’t get everything out this game, and why should you.Cheapskates need not apply here.

The game is stunning and a fresh breath of air in the MMO genre. It offers freedom that no other mmo outside of Eve or Ultima Online has. The class system is wide open. The crafting and trading in this game is what inspires the awesome PVP. The player ran economy goes far beyond what a simple auction house does in every other MMO.

Really cool game, slow publisher. Trion Worlds, Inc. was not prepared for the launch of this game at all. Really low queues for practically two weeks, solutions for issues with Patron status (Payment method) delays 3 entirely days, and when they fix them, there's no refund of wasted days. Maybe they are good, but i have not this impression.

Because of server issues during those days the money they spend was a waste, hence all the hate. I've been playing the game 3 days and just canceled my 2x wow accounts.

Pros: water/pirate/ship battles. a real crafting system that's viable at higher tier, ground mounts and flying glider combination is awesome, class type combinations are great ( not sure how that works at top tier yet), land restrictions and taxes force farming in unprotected land which adds another dimension to the game, package runs are hilariously fun, a trial system for bad behavior (which acts as comic relief in chat), ALMOST NO LOADING SCREENS.

cons: crappy quest system, game mechanics for combat are too run of the mill. very close to wow, not as good as guild wars 2. Graphic effects are pretty much rift-ish. This is the one topic i was disappointed to not see a major improvement.

THIS IS THE ONE TIME CRITIC REVIEWS ARE DEAD ON!
DO NOT PASS ON THIS GAME! Its the best thing that happened to the mmo genre. Finally a close to real sandbox experience in a fantasy mmo. Play it for free first and make your own judgement.

Really enjoying ArcheAge so far and its class system. Just like ever past MMO the 1st few weeks the game going to have issues which most the reviewers before fail to realize and its hardly P2W since everything offered on the CS has a similar item in game or can be crafted. Yes LP pots are a CS item but can be bought with gold if its being sold on the AH.

    I do recommend playing as a f2p

Now I have to agree the queue times ARE insane.
However, if you pay for this game (14 bucks a month I believe? ) you can simply skip the queue or get the paying users queue which is like.. 1 minute max?
If you decide to pay 1 month you can get gold in game and buy a new month with ingame currency which you get from farming questing etc.

The game itself is REALLY fun, the questing is a bit boring but hey it's questing, next to questing there are MANY ways to level up - crafting gives loads of XP , mining does, logging does etc. etc. etc.

Now the PVP in this game is insanely fun, you can steal peoples valuable tradepacks which give you gold! They will be angry but hey... **** them right?
You are able to build farms, houses, ships, bigger ships, castles ! It's amazing!
There is so much to do and it is so very well put together.

Try this game for 1 month is my advice and look through the little bugs or delays as of which your paid acc will be activated (between 1 minute and 2 hours)
And you will have a great game to play which keeps you busy for a very very very long time.

The community you had at the beginning of wow? that's here now the social part - its really fun.

Also: it's not pay 2 win, if people are claiming that it is , they need to look up what it means. there is no way you can pay to get ANY sort of priveledge.
    my 2 cents.

This game reminds me quite a bit of the old Ultima Online type of gameplay and pvp is far from fair or balanced. This game is based on group pvp and poltics. House building and life being unfair. If you aren't interested in this type of game play and earning(and being able to lose what you earned) then don't play it. But the old school gaming population has been crying for a game like this for years and this game delivers that experience. The best part of the justice system where you can have a trial among your peers. Are some jurors corrupt? yep! Is it fair? Nope. Is life fair? No.

If you like sand box work for what you earn and defend it type games this is the game for you. If you want an easy game with little challenge then this won't be your cup of tea. For what it is it delivers and is a really interesting experience if you enjoyed games like Shadowblade or Ultima Online(pre-Tram).

Yes there is a little pay to win if you want to craft and be part of the economy. However, I don't see that deserving of a bad rating. Yes Queues are bad right now again that's every MMO. All the reviews here that are bad are complaining about things that are minor as this game and the game world is really fun for the sandbox players. It's the same as any game, F2P is a taste of the game. If you want to full experience pay for it. If you don't like the game don't pay... When I like a game I don't mind giving money to a publisher to support it.

I do understand that it might take longer for a new mmo player but come on.. This game is **** worth it..

The game puts you in risky situations all the time, you have to think about what you are doing.

Me (lvl 50) and two friends (lvl 44) were on a smaller boat (harpoon clipper) today and saw a big ship (Galleon) comming in to shore to trade in precious tradepacks, we hooked ourselfs into the galleon and boarded their ship, this ended up becomming an epic battle. We killed them all took their tradepacks and sailed away on their Galleon :).

I cannot believe how whiny people of today is... Imagine WoW being released now... The stuff we had to put up with during wow launch were 100x worse. Ofc with good reason, but ffs... People need to stop spilling their words of nonsense if they got nothing else than whine in their heads.

I paid $15 for my initial month of patron, again a few weeks after launch, and still managed to get a house, a 16x16 farm, and several 8x8s (the extras are on alts, more on that later!). Those that are complaining about land, sure its crowded and getting a house can be a chore but they are out there. The landgrab bot complaints are **** People just assume that someone beat them to the punch must have botted/cheated. Yes, land is competitive, as it should be its a valuable commodity that can make you wealthy. I used in game money to purchase extra character slots ( an in game cash item that can be sold for in game currency) I then leveled those alts to get the 8x8 farms and placed them as close to my mains farms ( all characters on your account can use each others farms/houses) So I use my main to farm all of the characters farms. I then sell the materials I grow for gold, and keep a little on the side for trade runs myself. I have used in game currency to pay for my patron status by buying in game "Apex" . This game with about 4-5 hours worth of farming/driving a farm cart will pay for its own subscription. How anyone can think that is P2W is ridiculous. There are no combat advantages sold, no in game bonuses that cant be purchased with in game currency. This is the best reiteration of the F2P model I have been apart of. Sure the server downtime sucks ass, but I bet it'll get better. I am a patient grown ass man with a job, two kids and a wife. This game, is easy on the budget, the eyes, and I have fun playing it. Thats not even mentioning the insane character models, the ship to ship combat, the vehicles, the scenery, all the methods of making gold, like deep sea diving for pearls and sunken ships. I won't even delve into the PVP because its the **** My only gripe is with some aspects of the PVP in fact. In some arenas it is damn near impossible to close with an Archer based character nor is there ANY cover to break LOS. I have a WoW account with 9-90s, and WoD pre-ordered, I am seriously considering selling it so I can put it towards ArcheAge. Its a great game, I enjoy it and I will continue to play it. Expand

However, we have had GM's on my sever EVERYDAY for the past week for 8 hours at a time asking telling us "if you see any bots or hacks report them in faction so I can investigate". They have been clearing out tons of cheaters. They are doing MAC bans as well. For most players that means no more Archeage. For the gold selling companies they will spoof their MAC and be back unfortunately. But only to get banned again.

As for the hacks. Yes, there are hacks in this game. I'm not a computer guy so I can't really offer any insight into how this is occurring but i can summarize what I have read about it. Too much of the game is client side, essentially. And the server side program doesn't do the appropriate checks that it should do in order to detect the hacks. Also I read that the hackshield is a piece of junk and doesn't work at all.

From my perspective playing the game. I have not come across any hacks at all thus far. I have read about the hacks that are available. I know for sure that some hacks, like the teleport hack, is being detected and those players have had MAC bans. I have read about several other hacks I know that many of them ARE BEING DETECTED NOW. But for me I haven't been effected by them at all. I haven't witnessed them during my gameplay at all. I play about 5 hours a day since head start too. No hacks seen for me. I know that they definitely do exist though.

Disregard any review that says "pay2win" because it isn't really pay to win it is pay to have land or houses which don't give significant open world advantages it just speeds up the game play a little. The in game shop isn't pay to win either because the items inside it don't give players extra stats just an extra resource or two if you are desperate and if you play all aspects of the game you won't be desperate. The bots are a problem but bots are hard to get rid of once you have them unless you take down servers and do it that way but players moan like little bit*h*s if the servers go down for even an hour so there is no way to win. The biggest problem with the game isn't in game or even part of the game... it's Trion. Trion just keeps getting things wrong and messing around with things that don't need to be changed as well as not checking patches before releasing them. A majority of the reviews on here are people raging about Trion or about the servers at the very start/launch of the game which to me is just stupid because you can't dump on a game and how it plays just because the developers are being idiots behind the scenes. if a review has a number lower than 8 on here it is probably a child raging about P2W or how they get "ganked" in PvP. Good game, bad devs. Expand

When I joined, there were still a small amount of land left in Windscour, but I hadn't decided if I wanted to subscribe to the game or not, so I got 0 land from the initial start. When I joined, there were still a small amount of land left in Windscour, but I hadn't decided if I wanted to subscribe to the game or not, so I got 0 land from the initial start. As of right now, I own one thatched farmhouse (Largest farm area in the game + house) 3 houses, and 2 16x16 farms.

First, the negative points brought up by others:

There is no land that you can get for free anymore, that was for those who paid for headstart, and Trion reimbursed everyone due to issues with headstart (free subscriptions). If you can't get land, I am sorry, you don't want it bad enough. If you work at earning money over at least one whole day or at most a week, you can buy land. People are spamming chat channels all the time trying to sell, and if you join a guild (Do NOT play this game solo, you will be crippled and it will be no fun) most guilds will have members who sell at a discounted rate to guild members who have been around for awhile. Heck, I know a guild mate specifically sought out guild mates who were subscribers but didn't have land yet, and sold them land for less than 1/4 the going rate. No, you don't get land for free, but isn't it more satisfying to know that you worked for this land, that fantasy of working your job and saving up money until you can stare at a patch of dirt and go "This is MINE." IMO, it is progression and a goal to work towards.

Now, to you PvE'ers out there: The dungeons DO suck. Everyone who has complained about the "massive bugginess" in this game, I would say they exaggerate if not for the dungeons. The open world isn't too buggy, you get the rare falling through the world bug that exists in many games, and I do think this game will crash to desktop slightly more often than others. But I digress. There are two endgame dungeon in this game currently (5 and 10 man), and you can bug out every single boss of the first, and I don't know of a full run that's been completed of the second. I know that my guild will do runs of the first with only 3-4 people in them because with the bosses bugged it doesn't matter, it just takes a little longer. The dungeons are largely seen as that place you go for gear to PvP. (Or that rare pet drop off the last boss)
There is very little for a PvE person to do in this game, except for the owning a farm/crafting, which in itself is very rewarding but not even really PvE. I see it as economic PvP, as the entire economy is player controlled. Even item buying/selling/trading is a PvP interaction as most big ticket items will be sold outside of the AH and through chat channels as the AH takes a 10% cut.

Now, as for the P2W controversy: I am somewhat undecided about the greediness of Trion, but I do not think it is destroying the game (yet).
People call the newest cash shop boxes that drop rare mats to be Trion taking the game P2W. However, since they have released, all players can buy these formerly prohibitively expensive mats at 1/5 the price on the AH. In other words, all players and F2P players can access crafting much, much more easily than before. Since the introduction I, myself have taken up Leatherworking more fullheartedly and I am at nearly 60k proficiency.
Additionally, more players have access to fishing boats and farm wagons, which while some argue will add inflation to the game, I think there are enough gold sinks and checks in place to stop it from being a real issue. (Regrading gear to improve its stats can sink you several hundred gold to the abyss, and its not just a crafter thing, you regrade good drops from dungeons as well, etc, also that 10% Auction house fee, 500g certificates for fishing license/black arrow mount etc from vendors, seed/livestock costs, list continues)
How I see it: As long as there ARE players willing to sink money into the game, since nearly every item is tradeable, you will never feel the need to P2W. Things only available in the cash shop are mostly on the AH for 10g, which is less than half an hour's work. IF those with money stop spending money on the game, I could see it developing into an issue (less being put on AH turns into prohibitive prices) but as of right now, I feel no pressure whatsoever to drop cash. Even the subscription can be bought with in game gold via Apex, which I feel is highly overlooked.

Finally, the good points I feel need no explanation: Own land! Big world! Huge Ocean! Lots of PvP! Huge focus on economics! Huge diversity of classes! Player interactions are THE focus of the game. Join a guild or quit, honestly. Or revel in being an outcast and acknowledge that the odds are stacked against you, I can totally see that too. But you can find enough hype of this on the website. It has its good and its bad, but I have been an AA addict for awhile now.

Right after becoming patron (paying a 15 usd fee monthly) changes everything. Yes, you can play it for free but people expects to have the same benefits than a patron. Patrons can have lands, sell things on the AH, get twice as much labor when being online (labor points are required for almost everything on this game) and get some labor when being offline.

Trion has been fighting back bots and exploiters since day 1 and I think thats the main reason why I would definitely keep playing this game (I played lineage 2 for about 6 years and that was a bot fest). You can't get rid of all bots but you can see how they try.

About most other complains... getting land is not impossible but people expects it to be easy and a right. All online competitive games require being good or the best at doing so. If you cant beat people grabbing land since day one you must buy it from them. It took me some days to understand how to get them (practicing with an 8x8 spot) and after that I grab lands 1/4 times.

People giving low scores due to getting killed on an open pvp world.... or not grabbing land on a non-instanced housing system should learn to spend less time whining and more time working to get things. Is like whining for not getting a job on real life due to people having all jobs you would like to have.

Overall archeage is a good open-world MMO experience with a lot of different options in where and how you can play.

I would recommend anyone interested in open-world PvP try it out (emphasis on open world). However, like any "free to play" MMO and most MMOs in general, there is no even playing field. Higher geared players will have a big advantage over lower gear which is just a fact of the game design.

I wouldn't call the game mature yet because there is still a lot of aspects that could be greatly improved but so far they have done well to address the countless problems from queues, bots, hacking, inflation, and other issues. Unlike most other games I have played, the developers and publishers of Archeage are fairly responsive to the player base.

Character create was definitely an eye opener very fibrant colors and fantastic graphics and so many customization options. After an hour of playing I noticed the questing was very linear, kill 10 cows and collect 3 flowers however the combat was incredibilty entertaining and was having a lot of fun playing.

Currently only level 41 so I haven't experienced the endgame yet however I have reached the point in the game where both factions are in the same zones and PvP is inevitable, this is the main reason I began playing this game for the PvP aspect and finally I was able to test out how my character faired against others.

The character I decided to play was a "Blighter" Battlerage, Defence, Shadowplay, the main reason I decided to play this was that I wanted to play a tank like character with sustianable damage and stuns to be competitive during PvP play.

The only downside to Archeage is the in game store plays a huge role, players can become very rich from buying and selling things they purchase from the store which in some cases people would class this as Pay2Win because doing this allows playing to get good items faster than normal.

This review is based solely on my opinion I have given Archeage an 8/10 as personally I am enjoying the game and the amount of customziation available for the builds and how you wish to play your character, also the amount of open world available in astounding.

I made an account simply to add my opinion to this game.

Archeage isn't perfect, it has flaws like any other game. Those being the queue time (~30mins) and a questing system that is a tad dull, but that aside I love this game. It has stuff we haven't seen before! I feel as if this game is a social experience more than anything else because it is too difficult to do everything solo,

It has stuff we haven't seen before! I feel as if this game is a social experience more than anything else because it is too difficult to do everything solo, which facilitates more guilds and interaction between players.
There is not enough land for everyone to have mansions, and that's good because it forces people to work together. People need to join guilds, to interact in order to find a place they can be proud of!

The biggest hiccup this game has had is the presence of pay to win features, although I don't think they are represented fairly. Nothing is locked off from Free to plays that cant be achieved through working together (getting land) or putting a bit of time into the game (LP & Auction house). The game allows people who subscribe to benefit from it, of course they have an advantage over free to plays, but that is a necessary sacrifice in order to ship a free to play game.

In essence this game isn't a 10/10, its an enjoyable experience that encompasses allot of what we have not seen recently in the MMO genre. When there is so much you can take away from this game I implore you to give this game a chance as I can assure you it is well worth your time!

I feel the majority of complaints come from people that paid the $50-150 to get into headstart and met long queue's cause everyone had the same idea, that and the fact they are not treated like gods in a f2p game for playing.

The quest line is good, the variety of class roles are endless and the farming/crafting/housing is new and unique, definitely a new addition to an mmo -- It's far to early to be giving reviews on games like this, wait a few more weeks..

Land ownership - Great anyone can own land start a freaken family system.
Labor bonus - Buy yourself some labor pots 3-4 Gold in AH ( thats dirt cheap you should have 400+ gold ____________at lvl 50 )
Increase max labor - you should never cap your labor in this game EVER.
Post auctions - Stops gold farming, buy a apex not to hard to do and buy AH powers.
10% bonus to experience gains - oooo a steroid that wont matter in 5-6 months when people are
    _________________________ are end game anyways.

Im giving this a 8 mostly because of how trion handles things. its not uncommon for them to be this way. we have seen this through rift. their server handling isnt the best. knowing that people were going to have 3+ hour login ques in open beta they should have done major upgrades to accommodate this unless they expect the game to die in the next 3-4 months which it will more then likely wont considering in Korea this games been public for almost 3 years.

the best way i have to describe this is a very PvP based economy and a pretty decent skill cap being that macros are not a thing. End game oriented until people hit end game things wont settle down. You will always have something to do.

    Building Gallions / Pearls
farming mats for buildings/ castles / boats / cars / gear ( best gear is crafted )
    trade runs
trying to gain land on the PVP continent with a guild
    large scale PvP
    Blood lusting
    pirating
    Arenas

The game may not have been launched in the US as well as everyone hoped but things will slowly get better.

That being said this game is very very group oriented dont expect to be able to win 1 v 2's or anything in end game. No classes are specifically better then the rest. they have tons of different comboing effects. if you're a solo player dont expect to get a gallion let alone be able to use one in PvP they take 12 + people to effectively use.

    Cons to this game

    long que times
about 1/8th of the community screaming " PAY TO WIN " because they cant just go make their own house and cry in it alone.

The best gliders are still crafted not bought and the potions are just boosters not game changing. The key to this game is a join a guild and share/pool resources so you all get stuff. To give this game a 0 is silly its truly a great game once you get over the fact that you cant get everything in one day. Patience pays off greatly in this game. The pvp is fantastic, the freedom is amazing, the class system is insane (in a good way), the pve is good. As I said the only downside even as a patron is the labor system its kind of annoying but not a game breaker nor is the cash shop. Expand

Now, despite this general overview that the game is p2w and that it is almost impossible for a person trying the game for free to have a chance of triumphing over the others, know that most, if not all MMO's find a way to make a person invest into their cash shop.
    Archeage is no different, BUT...
Frugality aside, once you do apply for a patron status, a whole new game opens up to you.

    Archeage is no different, BUT...

Frugality aside, once you do apply for a patron status, a whole new game opens up to you. What do you get for the money payed? labor points, a commodity in the game as precious, if not as precious as gold itself. The chance to enter proper guilds and team up with individuals of your liking. After all, this is a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE is it not? You're bound to need teamwork sooner or later.

The trade system is unique and the way to cash in gold through deliveries of good brings a new light to MMO economics. Rather than compete with hundreds of individuals to grind and sell respawning resources, players are all entitled to a piece of land, whether temporary or permanent if they can find it. There, players can grow their farms, essentially their wealth and way to attaining the top end gear or pool their resources together and communicate with a group of friends or guild.

Now, Free to play in this game is more of a demo than anything in my honest opinion. You can easily complete the story quests, explore, discover new things without paying a single cent. For those whom are expecting a competitve advantage in doing so is like expecting taking a tour bus to beat sports cars in a race, it simply doesn't happen. The P2W aspect is one to be expected from Korean companies in general (the most infamous being Nexon). Now for the positives, the PVP aspect and controls are beautiful. Despite latency differences, servers compensates very well with the implementation of skill queuing, allowing for players across the world to have a much more even stand point. Although individuals may feel as though they are always being 'ganged upon', the better question remains, why are you alone in a PVP zone where you know things like this would happen?
Although gear and levels play a high aspect into a competitive advantage, most of it also ultimately falls down upon your skill in game and game sense. Stupid decisions made in the open map lead to your death.

The game is definitely not sandbox, however it is certainly large enough to allow you hours of exploring and finding things or stashes which other players may have hidden throughout the expansive world. The open seas of the world, bring a new sense of adventure and danger altogether.

As a free to play person whom has since bought the patron pack and is currently having a blast, do give it the game a chance. It's not surprising that a MMO on its release started with many many problems, but now that server queues have died down and there are probably far less people bombarding the customer service, the game should be far more enjoyable.

HOWEVER, if you are the type of person that is really into the essence of MMO - Role Playing Games, thenHello, honest reviewer here currently playing in December 2014. Ok, so first off let me start off with this: if you believe this is a casual game where becoming great at the game is an easy task or is something that you can accel at from the get-go, then this game might not be for you. HOWEVER, if you are the type of person that is really into the essence of MMO - Role Playing Games, then you have found yourself something that is quite tuned towards your taste.

Why do I say that? Because ArcheAge is a game that isn't all about combat, it isn't solely about being that unkillable person or going into dungeons killing mobs left and right. If anything, it excels at being a living, breathing world, a world more akin to that idea of a "virtual world". Here, economy has a major influence on everything, causing events ranging from large fishing expeditions of many vessels, to pirates and robbers preying on merchant ships and land-bound traders, to whole embargoes player-made preventing people from crossing regional borders. Not only that, but to experience the most out of this game, combat is not the only true "skill" you need. You need to be a good investor, knowing the market for goods and knowing when it's right to buy and sell, or be a good farmer, knowing exactly which crops sell for the most profit, or you can also be an illegal farm hunter, rewarding yourself with the riches of the land brought about by others bypassing the process, or perhaps even a pirate, where your riches are parallel to the amount of skill and patience between you and your fellow raiders.

Needless to say however, ArcheAge definitely has its flaws. Approaching it's second year of existence in Korea and not even a third of a year old in North America and Europe, ArcheAge is a still-growing, developing game made by, and let me put this in emphasis, "XL GAMES". Many reviewers out here like to blame Trion for any bad customer service, regardless of the fact that they are only the publisher of the game, not the developers. The only thing that Trion did was acquire the marketing license for western markets, so only if you have any monetary concerns should you be speaking to them about issues. Now, for the NA release, there are issues, some with latency, others with bots (which, in fact, have actually been reduced considerably) and in-game marketing issues, apart from land grabs and gold-purchase spam, which when you put everything together really don't amount to much unless you are "that" type of person who easily gets fed up with everything (which sadly many active gamers are :o). Now don't get me wrong, these problems do indeed hinder the game, but only to a certain extent, having really no major impact on the actual experience. *NOTE: recent server maintenance has caused long queue times, but remember that this is still a fresh game, and that having hordes of people trying to log on at the same time is inevitable.

Open-PVP regions, ranging from war-zones to the open ocean are what gives ArcheAge a highly dynamic feel. WIth members from both opposing factions able to attack you at a moments notice when it's not peacetime, you will always be wary and watch your back. Originally when I began questing in these areas, I was very frustrated as I kept dying all the time. However, when I played with my friend, we were able to go into 2v1's against max-leveled people and manage victory time and time again, and when we died, we somehow always got a laugh, because if you don't die to a mob, you don't really lose anything, save perhaps a minute or two of travel time and a tiny chink of repair costs for your armor (the durability of which is very high, so repairing is not that big of an issue, either.)

With a fun, dynamic class system in which you can switch skills any time and be max levelled in all trees and play up to three at a time, you can play as a healer, dps, and tank at the same time (though I do suggest specializing, hehe). I've run into my fair share of magical kiritos flailing their dual swords around and casting their magic only to be crowd controlled to oblivion whilst taking katanas or a nodachi to the back several times over. But besides that, the social aspect is beautiful. Often times you will see full raids of 50 players or multiple raids of hundreds all going for some objective, from world-bosses to sieges, warzones, and battles where literally hundreds of enemy mobs spawn, fighting them until we get overrun horribly, then counterattack and beat them, only to have crazy bosses spawn and wreck face all over again.

That being said, ArcheAge is a great game for those who are willing to take the time to really dig around all aspects, whether it be combat, crafting, literal "adventuring", or simple socializing. Sure it has its fair share of kinks and issues, but are things that are quite frankly easy to work around. Place any cynicism aside, let your inner curiosity take over, and have fun in this quite enjoyable MMORPG. ;)

then October came and all began to work smoothly (for patrons).

    THE GOOD:
The game is a great hybrid Sandbox - Themepark, so you can choose how hard the sandbox part will punch in your face (because it WILL happen, but you will learn to risk only what you can afford to loose).

Relaxing but full of things to do, this game is strongly about getting a piece of land to claim your own and do PVP. Lot of PVP.

open world battleground like Mistmerrow and Halcyona are incredibly fun, the battles at Sea, chasing player driven merchant ships to kill them all and claim their loot (never went fishing, but i sold a lot of marlins and sailfishes from other player's fishing boats ) or killing the Abyssal Kraken.. That's fun, deadly, rewarding.

In PVP sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. Gear impacts a lot on what you can do, but you can get very far with an intelligent build (120 "classes" in wich invest 28 specialization points means you can do very good / horrible builds) and a well tought gear.

Patron is necessary to get an edge on the game, but you're not forced to pay for it: with a good economy, after some months you can play patron for free. Yes, retaining also your real life.

Not only PVP, Sea and Battlegrounds, the game is also about crafting in a way so meagniful you've never seen in any other mmo. That's also one of the game problems, the end game gear is quite nearly impossible to craft: but you can decide where you will get.

Combat pets and mounts have ability and gear. They must be levelled up. Some can also be morphed to a much powerfull variant. They are not "an ability" but "an object".

Ships and Veicles, you can have them as well as an house and some fields to cultivate or.. well do whathever makes money.

And the glider, or a Pegasus mount. To fly. Well, glide down...

There is a lot to do out there. You don't really even need to quest to level up.

    THE BAD:
The "regrading" mechanics: you have to empower (regrade) your gear. YOU WILL DO IT. and you will suffer : gear is going to downgrade or destroy. And you have to start over again and again... and again. This is frustrating. So much.

Game is Gear dependant. A lot.
