    2. Biggest incompetence I saw. They created a fresh start server for new players. At some point they were supposed to close it and transfer it to the normal server regarding to their statement. We already pass the date and has been weeks. They are not able to transfer characters from fresh server to normal server. What is the result? We are locked in the empty server, not able to find party for any content and paying for nothing. No apology, no compensation. I was able to count only around 10 of the same people every day... so if you would like to pay for playing on a dead server this is the way.

I .. was curious about gaming. Wanted to see what all game genres have to offer
So i wanted to start with MMOs. Since well.. MMOs have this weird "fantasy" to people playing games. and archeage was free and "Sandbox"
so i started it with my friends. We played. Began as a cool "oh look im grinding like that meme Lol" and then it became a "I need to finish it as soon as i can" thing. ... Something was off and i jsut wanted to finish it. Learn about it and move on.
I did the "open world raids" . lol. that **** everytime it came. Cause i thought we were living in a world. Where if we did not defend against the dark , we would loose land and people..... turns out it was a daily .... for 1 of the currencies that archeage had.
And then there was a Open world WAR between 2 lands. I thought it was an actual war.. turns out that too... was a PvP daily. where you were awarded for participation.

and so i played this game. Left the dailies.just.. focused on what i could do. me alone. Always. Cause thats how games are made. You can just enjoy yourself..... turns out nothing was made for fun.

Ok i will give archeage this. the Trade runs , the dungeons , the PvP ,the crafting , the housing , and the farming were fun. But dont be fooled.
Just because i named so many things. Doesn't mean you could do them
You see. Dungeons needed gear. Which needed money
Trade runs , crafting , farming required Labour.. you got 2500 labour each day... to put that in standard terms.. Each of those. if you went to do these and ONLY these activities. You could only do it for 1hr.. maybe 30mins.... cause each action in one of these activites cost 100 labour and ONLY gave any reward after 1 day.... to make you come back.
Housing.. required land , and resouces (that need either labour or gold..and if trade runs etc took labour and gear took gold.... what will you do)
    PvP , needed gear.

BUT THE GREATES PROBLEM... all of archeage's best activities.. which ... were **** not even close to a basic game back in 1999. Could only be done for either an hour and then you would run out (seriously , they put limits on DUNGEONS>.. and dungeons didn;t even give any reward that people used.. hell it was pointless) or depended on the randomness of the people... which... ofc.. were the retarded minmaxers who only came to do dailies and logged out. .... but somehow did the dailies for THE ENTIER DAY.. cause dailies were on a timer. Each was an event.. and so they had to wait for the entire day.

And so i roamed. Because without gold and labor.. what would i do.. and so i thought i would find something in the open world. **** NOTHING... NOTHING
such a big ass proclamation... about "open world" and "sandbox" and its just a bunch of localized interactions where everyone is herded like sheep.
and the open world PVE.. **** THAT. **** IT. You would want to "fight" an npc. or have it not throw telegraphs atall like WoW.. but nOoooooooo. Ofc not. Its like they made it to torture players

and then.. the comunity... Its helpful it is... if you ask the questions that everyone asks. Otherwise they are a bunch of **** retards who will bite the first person "talking **** aka the truth about their game. and ofc.. this game's fun is literally in their head. how could they not bite. If the spell broke they would probably not find a reason to live anymore .

7 years.. I thought i was wrong... cause "maybe i ask too much of games. Maybe Unreal Tournament 1999 and **** like halo were.. anomalies" ..... NOPE. apparently meta critic knows.

So thats why i made a profile today. I... dont care for this. too much. but to just see so many people are not just blaming "p2w" like a retard but actually talking about how bad the games mechanics were... it helps

and so.. i would just like to tell you....... stay away.. its a trap. Its literally not a game. it keeps you engaged in a sense but telling you , you still haven't had fun.

    Dont **** touch it.

also have you read the positive reviews , who talks like that "best game" "Amazing" **** you... never have i once used expressions like "best game" GO **** YOURSELF. Its painfully obvious they are paid

The three of us started playing with this game and we really enjoyed it. After a while, we realized that this was not only a pay to win game but also a pay to play game, which is a bit sad, but this game is a good "little trial" version of the unchained version.

Amazing game, Personally the best mmoprg for me, recently most p2w elements were complete removed and added a new gear and system where you can progress fast and enjoy the game. This game is better if you come to play with friends, solo might seem too tiring for a new player

For me it feels like a very old game, especially when coming from Elderscrolls and Gw2. The character textures and appearance is very good but the buildings and plants and world around feels very clunky and old looking. Kinda blocky buildings etc. Cities are empty, npcs standing in clusters doing nothing and huge spaces where the is no life whatsoever. You very rarely hear your own characters voice, so there is a lot of reading text boxes. The interface is buggy and problematic, I tried to enlarge my skill bar so I could better use it and half of my lower skill bar disappeared under the screen. Trying to move the skill bars using shift and left click didn't work for me most of the time either.
The game-play is very old time, fetch quests. BUT I did like some of the main stories, the best being the warborn. Unfortunately the main stories end at level 30 and while you continue the 'substitute' main story and sidequests, they are pretty bland and typical of older games. Its a hard slog getting from 30 to 50 even using xp potions I must say.
I believe the server must be very quiet, the trade-broker on both the NA and EU had very little armor and weapons for sale as opposed to most the MMO's I've played. Luckily every few levels the game rewards your character with a set of new armor. I liked the armor styles but was disappointed to see there was no way to preview the armor before buying, who would spend a fortune on a new armor from the broker without previewing?

Sad to see there was no in-game stylist, this would have kept me playing for longer having more cosmetic options. Especially as I am happy to be a paying player. But not so keen to pay real world money for changing my look on top of a monthly fee.

I found the crafting and building systems unneccessarily complicated and impractical. For all the different materials needed for crafting and building, its a wonder there isn't a material storage system implemented into the game as there is in other mmos.

Im glad I gave Archeage another look but feel very sorry that it doesn't live up to the hype from launch or even from reading others reviews.

Id like to see them properly introduce flying and even allowing people the chance to own and train their own dragons, the dragon system is very exclusive, cash shop and guild reliant. What a shame for us casual players eh?

I experienced PVP sometimes when out leveling my character, because the maps are so empty I really didn't have to worry about being constantly killed when doing quests in danger zones. Quite funny really cause I was expecting it.

Personally I think they should scrap this game, take their ideas and build it again using a better engine with better graphics and better and more simple systems implemented. Update and improve is necessary for this game to compete with the other great and formidable mmo's out there.

Most of the "Pay-to-Win" aspects of the game have been eliminated--there is a monthly subscription that adds a substantial boost to crafting potential.

It was a good game until the ascension patch. It went vertiginously downhill from there.
The P2W features made an even bigger breach between its F2P counterpart when the Eternal grade gear arrived.

I started this game at the NA Launch. The gear gap is one of the worst I've experienced in an MMO, especially in terms of crafting and the RNG factor is ridiculous when you are spending in game currency and energy to upgrade weapons and armor, only to have a very, very high chance of failure. The gear gap is one of the worst I've experienced in an MMO, especially in terms of crafting and the RNG factor is ridiculous when you are spending in game currency and energy to upgrade weapons and armor, only to have a very, very high chance of failure. The pvp factor is fine, but open world pvp does need to have limits and even up to the current changes, there's very little done to manage it. Basically, if you don't mind grinding daily for currency, or paying IRL money for patron while buying apex to sell on the auction house to line your pockets (or several alt accounts to bot for you), this is the game for you. Expect to have high geared players block content, and weasel out exploits that have yet to be fixed.

Also, since the server merges, there's very little land on either continents, so that may be a problem if you need to farm in order to produce gold.

DDOS seems to be a frequent problem as well. Many players have connectivity issues, and FPS loss is a constant frustration during content.

To be honest, there needs to be a gear/weapon cap at celestial or divine, as well as a class re-balance. There's a ton of players who have voiced their concerns over these common issues and XL has yet to listen.

Now, on to the positives: The game, overall, is very aesthetically pleasing. There is a lack of underwater life, unlike BDO, but otherwise, it is a pretty game. Prior to the server merge, farming was a good way to have an income to buy APEX, and ultimately, patron. The selection of mounts are fun, and the costumes are usually something to look forward to, especially during annual events. You also have a chance to buy marketplace items on the auction house for gold instead of loyalty or credits. Pets are also a fun addition and can be helpful during PVE. You also have a choice to change professions and classes to suit your play style.

    That said, I think this game would be worth sticking with if;
    1. Classes/abilities were better balanced.
    2. They establish a gear cap that's manageable for players without having to break into one's bank account, and rework the RNG mechanic for upgrading said gear.
    3. Shut down servers and actually address the issues and exploits that have been reported (especially LOS attacks and pulling through walls)
    4. Rework the faction guards to where they are faster and deadlier to opposing factions and players who "Purple", i.e. turning instantly aggro on PK'ers while in a base or town. That includes Diamond Shores.
    5. Open more protected farm land, especially in merged servers. Remove un-built buildings within a time period. (It sucks, especially if you're saving a spot for a guild member but you always have the option of building on the land then selling it to them for a copper.) And limit the amount of land one can own in a region. This could possibly put a stop to land barons who take up 20 plots of land just for decorations.
    6. Rework the justice system. No more trials, and infamy points can only be reduced by time served, pots of forgiveness (limited), and/or paying a fine. (Also portals are disabled within a certain distance of the jail.)
    7. Cool down between combat and the use of gliders need to be addressed as well.
    8. Rework of the collision physics in the game. This can address the problem with people blocking pathways to traders and roadways. This might take the fun out of scooping someone up on a long-board or car and moving them to an unsafe area, but over all, it will take away the headache that, again, many players face with large groups, or needing to afk for a short while. BDO's collision physics are spot on, even if you get bumped into and your bust jiggles like pudding pop. Ships and buildings should still have a hard collision however. Besides, they can re-establish the afk timer, as they have done in the past.

Granted, these are only suggestions, and alterations and think tanks on the subject are welcome. I ended up leaving the game in November after years, so I'm by no means new. I enjoy pvp as much as pve, and have seen games come and go. It would be great to see XL pay attention to players on NA/EU and their concerns. There's still a lot of money they can make from their cash shops and subscriptions.

The amount of randomness required to progress your character are so prehistoric its like being vaulted back into 2005. Trion, the North American publisher of the game admits to having no actual control over any content that gets pushed into the region. And XL treats the north american and european versions of the game extremely bad. Most Other korean developers of mmos have gotten over this xenophobic approach to development yet it still seems XL holds onto its ideas of a Korea First focus in the game.

The game has 120 possible classes, yet everyone mostly plays 1 Dark Runner because after 2 years it hasn't been balanced.
The quests are somewhat engaging but thats only if you get filled in on the lore ahead of time, the writing and delivery of that lore is terrible in the game outside of a few cutscenes which can be jolting as they don't fit with the direction or path of your character.
The PVE elements of the game are terrible. They require no thought outside of a handful of bosses with 1 shot mechanics, everything else outside of that handful are pinatas. PVE requires no thought, you stand in 1 spot and press 1 dps skill as fast as you can.
PVP elements of the game are terrible. As the game is pay to win, most of the skill factor in the game goes out the window as you can simply wash away any amount of bad skill with spending money on the strongest gear.

The Naval combat while fun, doesn't really have any meaning, as having your ship destroyed gives no real consequence, and in most cases the actual ship combat can be ignored by simply jumping onto enemy ships with masses of players or pulling them off with spells as players have the ability to move faster than ships.....why even bother having a ship out at that point?

The housing system, while a good idea on paper, is a terrible idea in practice, as it limits the amount of players who can actually join the game for that experience. Land isn't instanced or limited by amounts you can own.

That being said, the actual game mechanics shoot themselves in the foot when the game allows you the ability for free, to create as many alternate characters as you can in a world that has limited space. Which means a single player can own an entire area of a map again blocking any new player from setting any property there. That kind of stuff used to matter in the beginning of the game when it released and had a future. But since the mistakes have piled on patch after patch, bug after bug, mistake after mistake most of the population of the game is gone.
Most notably the European population of the game on all but 1 server have vanished.
As far as the players that remained after, most if not all of the organized gaming communities have left, and I'd wager to say most people left still playing have either invested so much into the game they don't want to quit, or are new players that don't have a clue about the games traps.

Oh and I almost forgot the most important part, the game encourages you to be a heel to other players rewards it, causing all of those problems mentioned above to be amplified by 1000. Griefing etc have no real consequences.

That being said, Stay away from this game and avoid it like ebola. Let it rot with all the other korean cash grab imports that settle their way over to other countries only to be shut down a few years later.

I am not talking about the subscription fee. You pay that to have the right to own land, but to craft anything without the prospect of spending years to create a top-tier item, you will need to pour cash into the game.

The most despicable pay2win aspect is Labor Points. You generate a small amount if you have a subscription and even less if you do not. Want to mine that ore node? Got enough Labour Points? No, tough! Pay for more.

Moving on from the crafting system, there is literally no end-game, none. A handful of badly designed dungeons.

Not that this review really matters now, the server populations dropped off sharply after a few months, requiring server merges. I popped on a few days ago to see where the game was at. Dead, mostly.

I've been playing ArcheAge since late Alpha, and while it has had its growing pains it's one of the best MMOs on the market right now. I'm at 16 years of Ultima Online and I've hardly touched UO since AA came out. The housing is great, the skill trees are pretty interesting and combine in many ways, the ships are fantastic...

It's just an overall great game.

    The good:
    * Non-instanced player-owned housing
    * Extremely deep harvest/craft/trade system
    * Hardcore PVP
    * Triple-class character system

    The bad:

Archeage has well polished pvp mechanics and a metric ton of stuff to do. Stuff includes land based, oceanic, and transcontinental trade routes as well as building your own farms, housing areas, and finding other ways to make landmasses productive for you and your group. It also has some of the most amusing naval combat put into an MMO to date.

The bad: Unlike in the beta and the Korean release the claimable land zones do not change size based on population, they are absolutely static. This creates massive inflation on land values that just doesn't exist in the same fashion on the original release. Want anything in a safe zone? Be prepared to bleed gold. The LP system directly punishes both paying subscribers and their FTP crowd, Labor is required to build/do most things that generate income such as trade runs, ftp only get 5 per 5 minutes while online, subscribers get 10 per 5 minutes while online and 5 per 5 minutes while offline. Your play time will be punished.

The Ugly; Mass normilization of specialty items such as the nearly unique ships, hang gliders, and mounts. Paying RL cash for in game power (reforging), and the community (At least on the west, dear bloody god do they have problems on Calleil before it merged. East was livable.) If you ever wanted to see people tear each other apart for utterly zero reason, here's a great example what not to do. Use your guild as a MLM scheme, set up a pyramid scheme, deliberately steal in bulk from members land and tell them "Oh well" when they can't afford to maintain their claim.

You won't be able to compete in the game.
The only way to compete is unfortunately the term every one knows... Pay2Win. This game is a total gambling game with your money. Isn't online gambling illegal? That is what this is!

I have no objects buying costumes and pretty stuff in games. The problem is buying the items to be able to compete. These items are related to increasing the odds of your gambling chance at successfully regrading your equipment. Regrading your equipment will increase how powerful the item is. There is 12 grades to all your gear. Each grade gets harder and harder to regrade to the next level. They sell Charms for real life money in the game that raises the chance you might increase the grade of the item. Problem is it is a gamble with low odds of succeeding. The other problem is besides not regrading up.... the item can regrade down and you threw away all that money and did not get anything. It gets worst.... You can even destroy your gear if a regrade fails. This can get quite expensive with all the gear a person has. This doesn't just stop at player gear. All the boat items in the game can be regraded as well as pet gear in the game.

All your gear will have item sockets as well that you can gamble on actually adding a gem to. You can always get the first gem in, but after that it is a gamble if you can add more gems. The gem will either not go in and break, and or destroy all the gems already in the item. This happens quite often.

I'm sure by now every one knows this game has a PvP focus, which is great....

No skill is taken into account into the PvP of this game. This game is all about your Gear Score, which is a cumulative total of the points your gear is worth. The game takes a massive amount of gold to really be competitive in the game. There is an item that you will be tempted to buy with real money from Trion called an Apex. You can sell this item to real players for serious amount of gold. You need this serious amount of gold for crafting ingredients, and regrade, and socketing, etc, etc... You can earn gold in the game, but to earn the kind of gold you can get from easily buying and selling an apex in game will take days upon days, if not weeks for newer characters that don't have ways to easily transport tradepacks in the game to make gold. You can't earn gold from killing monsters in the game. Yes... you cannot earn gold from killing monsters in the game. You can get what they call a loot bag from monsters in the game. This loot bag can then be opened to get a paltry amount of gold. Even then your limited to the amount of these bags you can open. There is a labor system in the game. Most activities in the game take labor. Combat doesn't take labor. Opening Coin Purses(loot bags), crafting, farming, and regrading. These all take labor and you have a small limited pool of labor that regenerates slowly by being in the game. Don't worry though you can spend real life money to buy Labor regeneration potions.

I have unfortunately spent an embarrassing amount of money in the game I feel and I could not compete with any one in the dominate faction. There is a snowball effect to the game when one side is dominating the other side. There are world bosses that only the strong can take down, and all these world bosses can be interrupted by the apposing faction. While on my server it is so bad the faction i'm in can't compete and can't challenge the other factions at these world bosses to get the sweet loots. This loot you get from the world bosses allows you to craft even more powerful items in the game making you even stronger, making the other faction even weaker.

Earning money in the game can be very hard as well when the dominate faction can essentially kill you and take all your hardwork crafting tradepacks, which is what will earn you some gold. You need to sell about 50 trade packs to be able to earn as much gold as a Apex can sell for. You can only carry 1 tradepack at a time, but various carts and boats you can craft will allow you to carry more. Basic Cart 2, upgraded 4, and pay2win cart 6. There is a boat you can build that will allow you to transport 20 packs, but good luck surviving out in open water to transport these packs in an unrestricted pvp zone. Remember you can only move one pack at a time on your back. These packs all take ingredients and labor to make. All the ingredients you farm on land and harvest using labor. If you can find land to own, you need to be a subscriber to own land. I was quite the land baron in the game and had a ton of land. Also to keep your land you need to pay taxes in the game every week. You need to make tax certificates from using your labor.

I can only leave a 5000 character long review, and I have allot more I could say. Unfortunately this game is the most pay2win game ever.

This is the standard that all MMOs should be measured against.
Be what you want to be in a game that is too beautiful to bear.
Want to PvP? Yes. Want to farm? Yes. Want to trade? Yes. Want to own and decorate your house? Yes. Place your house in an organic, non-snap on way? Yes. Want to roleplay in a deep lore-set environment? Yes. Want to explore gorgeous fantasy scenery? Hell Yes.

The idea had potential but both XL and Trion fell into the "do what we know sells" trap and churned out yet another "Korean grinder". Pretty graphics (but nothing that hasn't been done before and done better) but that is about the only positive. PvP is based solely on gear and if you're a flavor of the month (right now its Dark Runner or some other Battlerage-based spec), then raw numbers, and the actual ability of players to think is at the bottom of the heap. Plus with sieges and every other in-game event tied to the clock you can forget about using sneakiness to attack when the numbers are more even or to simply wear down a dominate faction.

As to the PvE.... might as well forget it now. Sure you start out following a quest line that sounds promising (if rather overblown) at first there are enough quests with okay rewards that you don't have to grind a thousand and 1 monsters to progress. But by the time you hit 40 that all dries up as the quests peter out (to the point of there being zero in Auroria - the "end game" continent), the rewards fall flat (basically you're using level 40 gear at 50), and its all the same "go kill X mobs then come back". On top of that the dungeons do nothing to break the monotony; they're really just mobs with more hp that hit harder with a few bosses with unavoidable/ unresistable stuns plus automatic-kill attacks mixed in. Oh and rewards that unless you're really into to the RNG and grind-game that is Arche Age crafting make you wonder why you bothered. Of course that assumes you can even find a group to do the dungeons with at a level when they're supposed to be meaningful. Most of the time you're left waiting for some level 50+ player looking to get their daily mentor quests done to take you along for an ultra-boring zerg since the game lacks even a remote resemblance of a Looking for Group tool. Much less something on the level of the polished system that WoW reached despite being years older.

Speaking of which, when you compared Arche Age to that much older game you see a glaring difference.
WoW might be older and its graphics dated (but then again they're also true to the Warcraft games looks) but its clear that Blizzard actually put enough money and time into each aspect of the game to make them enjoyable. While XL dumped everything into the graphics and naval aspects and just assumed those and throwing around "PvP" and "sandbox" in the ads would be enough.

My advice - play it if you're bored but don't waste money on it. You'll just end up asking yourself why you bothered while waiting for something better to come along.

I'm reading so much bad about this game but I'm thinking initial problems have been ironed out, one major issue I've come to read about which has stuck with the game, is the idea that it had become pay to win. I'll admit, wielding a creditcard speeds up things, since you can translate that into in-game gold. But that's not different from any other MMO, where gold is attainable through either official in-game sources ( like here ) or via outside sources. Paying a monthly fee gives you a worthwhile edge If you plan to invest a lot of time in the game, and the monthly fee can be attained by buying a certain item from in-game currency, so total free to play with the same edge as people who paid the monthly fee is attainable. For casual gamers I think pure free to play is certainly possible. There are some tips on Youtube videos I'd advice to check out when you start out, but finding out yourself mite be the way to go for you. I'm experiencing the game from the youngest European server. I think this has a say on how I experience the game, hardcore people aren't yet at top gear and I'm guessing it'll still take some time to get there . For me it has been a pleasure all the way, I think I've spent a bit above 100 hours currently. I hope to see more people giving the game great reviews, because It's very obvious the game has taken big hits from the early days, and people who haven't tried the game think it's not the good game it actually is.

Some facts why this game is broken and why it is the publisher's fault:
    1) Labor point regeneration system only regenerates a suitable amount while being online: Forces you to afk-farm or buy labor pots from the cash shop.
    2) Rare items for crafting high tier equipment only available in cash shop. Which makes the endgame essentially a game of $$$.
    3) They didn't even try to fix the land-grab bot problem by changing the land claim methods or system which made cheaters insanely rich and ruined the whole economy.
    4) Economy in the game (which is a huge aspect in a game of trades and piracy) went to **** even further after introducing boxes in the cash shop which gave you randomly very expensive items: Killed the economy because everybody had to find new ways to make money which got torn apart by the publishers once again.
    5) Server merges now which nullified all the effort of getting a castle for your guild or a huge lot with a big farm. Best way to kill the playerbase.

The list gets bigger and bigger but I'm too lazy to list it all.
Best MMO, worst publisher. Such a shame.

It was actually very fun... for a while.

    My Cons:
The Labor system sucks the joy out of the game.
    The community is largely toxic.
Pay to win big time. (Gold spammers are in heaven.)
Hacking is really bad and obvious.
Devs don't care, Trion does not care.
Combat is boring and lackluster button mashing.
PvP is very unbalanced gear & skill wise.
The economy is terrible and constantly in huge swings.
    Few dungeons, limited rewards.
End game becomes a grind in a very limited area.
You cant customize your characters body, only the face/hair.
Crafted end game armor thats basically plate on a swimsuit. (and not even that great looking)
You cant dye a majority of the armor so your stuck on the color it comes in typically.
Farming takes up hours and hours and hours and is boring to tears.
The castles sieges are stupid, you pay a lot of gold for the right to siege (1 guild at a time) on a very limited twice a month basis. Guilds have been known to bid on their own siege rights.
The criminal justice system is basically a good way to get picked on and works backwards, punish them and their entire guild hunts yours down, they get out of jail in 10 minuets and keep your stuff.
    Sound is generic and repetitive.
Crafting is a gamble, grind, money, and labor sink. (Unless you pay to win!)

I would rather do just about anything else.

Sea combat in this game is the best that I've seen, however, any hope for a bit of enjoyment is ruined by the greedy developers. I will update if they decide to start accepting player feedback, but at the moment, it seems like they have their wads of money shoved firmly in their ears.

    1. Sea combat is good, however, like the rest of the game it is plagued with hackers. This brings me into the gear system.
    2. The gear system may sound interesting, you regrade items from basic all the way to legendary, which improves stats. Each regrade after unique has the ability to degrade the item back to arcane, and regrading any item is expensive. That means, that an item that has reached it's full level potential is VERY VERY valuable. To put it in perspective, I could buy a bow at normal level for 200g. If I regrade it all the way to max level, suddenly it becomes worth 20,000g (if it is a good bow to begin with). This sounds interesting right?
Well, it's broken. RNG Rolls are stored prior to when you actually take the risk. THAT MEANS: If you were to regrade, it would already know whether or not you were going to fail BEFORE you regraded. This is literally a stupid way for this system to work, and I can't justify why ANY developer would create it that way. There are hacks that allow you to see whether or not you fail or succeed, letting you choose the times where it says that you succeed. Therefore, hackers can always get their items to max level without risking degrade. This system applies not only to weapons and armor, but to boat components. Players with Hacks can now out manuever and out gun everyone else not only in 1v1, but at sea.
    3. Shakey business practice: XL Games has never released any information on the drop rates, or regrade rates, which illicites a feeling of sketchy practice. It is literally in the company's best interest to hide their abysmal RNG so that players continue to spend more and more money. Seeing how just about every single feature in the game is based on RNG, this can be problematic.
    4. Market place scams: XL Games Sells good and useful items on the marketplace for people willing to spend actual money or buy APEX using an obscene amount of gold. The problem? They always beef up the items on initial sale only to nerf them down the road. That means you may be sold on an item that you believe to be worthwhile only to have it be completely useless once they nerf it.
    5. Hacking not only affects regrades, but land placement and other features. Regrades are the most harmful to th e community because having fully upgraded gear means you can literally 1 hit anyone at max level. Yet, even though hacking is a problem, the stupid developers made it IMPOSSIBLE TO REPORT PLAYERS FOR HACKING. Whenever a player regrades, you can see if they got a success on global. Everyone watched a player achieve 4 successful regrades within the time it would normally take to use 1, instantaneously. We couldn't even report him for hacking because there is no feature for it.
    6. There are no GMs present, ever.
    7. Players are leaving in mass exodus
    8. Labor system is **** basically encouraging you to not play the game.
    9. f2p is a lie, it is p2w
    10. When leveling I was always told "The game opens up at 50" What it opens up to, is a bunch of events that funnel the entire player base into a certain area. The events are not exciting, they are just as monotonous as the rest of the game. It is one big player farm. You can farm in Hasla, or you can farm in the library. You are exposed to just how shallow the player pool is, when every day you see the same players doing the same events.

The money greedy developer RUINED a completely good concept. The Korean version of the game shows blatant favoritism. It's clear that XL games just wanted to port to the US so that they could milk us of all our money and then throw us in the garbage. At it's current state, people are leaving, and the ones that are staying are only doing so because they're attached to their current gear. I've talked to many players and they are ready to leave at the next failed update, which at this point is bound to happen. This game is a scam, and I can't recommend it to anyone. I had a lot of fun in alpha, but I was also blind to the shady business practices that the developers use. Trion got a screwy deal, with not being able to update... but they are equally at fault. This game needs to crash and burn so that something with better execution can take it's place. There is a need for a game that is similar to archeage, save the ****

open world battleground like Mistmerrow and Halcyona are incredibly fun, the battles at Sea, chasing player driven merchant ships to kill them all and claim their loot (never went fishing, but i sold a lot of marlins and sailfishes from other player's fishing boats ) or killing the Abyssal Kraken.. That's fun, deadly, rewarding.

In PVP sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. Gear impacts a lot on what you can do, but you can get very far with an intelligent build (120 "classes" in wich invest 28 specialization points means you can do very good / horrible builds) and a well tought gear.

Patron is necessary to get an edge on the game, but you're not forced to pay for it: with a good economy, after some months you can play patron for free. Yes, retaining also your real life.

Not only PVP, Sea and Battlegrounds, the game is also about crafting in a way so meagniful you've never seen in any other mmo. That's also one of the game problems, the end game gear is quite nearly impossible to craft: but you can decide where you will get.

Combat pets and mounts have ability and gear. They must be levelled up. Some can also be morphed to a much powerfull variant. They are not "an ability" but "an object".

Ships and Veicles, you can have them as well as an house and some fields to cultivate or.. well do whathever makes money.

And the glider, or a Pegasus mount. To fly. Well, glide down...

There is a lot to do out there. You don't really even need to quest to level up.

    THE BAD:
The "regrading" mechanics: you have to empower (regrade) your gear. YOU WILL DO IT. and you will suffer : gear is going to downgrade or destroy. And you have to start over again and again... and again. This is frustrating. So much.

Game is Gear dependant. A lot.

I came into the game pretty excited for an MMO with "sandbox housing," only to realize that it was neither sandbox, nor was there housing. I camped expiring lots for 2 weeks before logging in at 6am with a friend to pick up a spot, only to make an enemy out of the guy that had 7 houses nearby and wanted mine for his 8th. When I wanted to upgrade from a 16x16 to a 24x24 farmhouse, I couldn't find a spot outside of the farmhouse-only plots thanks to cutthroat housing practices, while farmhouse-only areas had people that placed their houses square in the middle of multiple plots, taking 2x,3x, sometimes even 4x as much space as they needed, and screwing everyone else. Never mind the stupid labor system, the TS tree debacle, the coin purse exploit, the 3k gold I had taken away because someone bought items I listed on the AH with stolen/farmed/exploited gold.

Seriously, this game is so bad. The story is boring, the pay2win aspect runs incredibly deep, and the biggest thing going in the game (player housing) is impossible to find. When they released Auroria, it was full within an hour or 2. It's just an overall terrible game.

    Ah... Arche Age.

This game does not kid about how Open-World it is, here you will experience almost no load screens, except for the occasional dungeons.

This game has boats. BOATS! You can sail the seas as an explorer, trade with different continents and cities, pillage and plunder as a pirate.

What more could make it better you ask? Houses! You can actually make houses! Be it the small little cute house you dreamed to have or the big costly mansion you wished you had. You can make it!

In this game there is economy, where you make stuff at one place and sell it in to another. You can actually be a trader you wished of becoming!

It goes deeper, this game has Professions, which basically enables you to be anything you want to be in the game! "Animal Husbandry?" Yep! "Weapon Smith?!" Uhuh! "Carpenter!?! Yes, and many more!

Now it's time to open the box shall we? :)

    *Ta Da!*

PvP? Pfffft... It's all about gear and 90% of all skills are homing, there is no such thing as 'actual skills' in this game. It's all about the running around pressing buttons! With Pay to Win armor and gear!

Lets say you're an average player, with his average gear, but actually has 'skills'.

Gear score : 2,800 for example. Yes there is such a thing as 'Gear score' in this game, anything higher than 3,500 and most probably 9/10 you can't win.

There are even people up to 6,000 Gear score, they won't be able to tell you the story of how they go their gear. Each piece costing 67,000 gold or more, you got helmet to graves, plus weapons and regrades. They have this mystical bank where you put real money and gold comes outside the other end. *wink wink* gold sellers *wink wink*

Okay let's say you've geared up now, you finally have 3,000 - 4,000 gear score woot! The guy I mentioned above will rek you no matter how good at PvP you are. A guy with full set Delphinad armor and an Ayanad weapon can't be taken on by 10 people.

Well at least there are houses you may say, you are wrong, you cannot build freely, you require Patron status to do that, which basically means you have to pay. Or at least grind out the entire month for it in game and loose all touch with life outside a game.

Let's say you payed or actually grinded for Patron status, "Can I build a house now?" No, no you can't, you gotta wait in line behind hundreds of people who haven't even gotten land yet. Even though there is an abundance of space and actual land in the game, only 10%% is allowed to be used for housing, you can't just build anywhere, so trash your dreams of making a house near a water fall on a cliff or on top of a hill.

Well at least I can be anything I want to be, is probably what's left of what you are thinking. Wrong! Remember energy the thing we hate so much about facebook games? Well Arche Age has it, except it goes under the name 'Labor'. Each and everything you do requires labor, which more or less hinders you from actually doing anything. The thing is people with Patron status gets twice the amount you get per 5 minutes you are in game of labor, and the same amount you get when you are online when they are offline. FYI you don't get labor offline as a non-Patron.

The only good thing about this game is the economy, not the economy in general, but the trading. Making it here, selling it there. THAT'S IT.

So if you wanna be a tradesman and go #jobsimulator go ahead be my guest, play this game.

But if you want PvP you're better off buying GW2 which has the best PvP and combat out there.

Trust me, I'm a F2P player, and I know the thought of buying an MMO is awful. But if you like PvP and actual skills can win the game, Guild Wars 2 is for you.

Overall archeage is a good open-world MMO experience with a lot of different options in where and how you can play.

I would recommend anyone interested in open-world PvP try it out (emphasis on open world). However, like any "free to play" MMO and most MMOs in general, there is no even playing field. Higher geared players will have a big advantage over lower gear which is just a fact of the game design.

I wouldn't call the game mature yet because there is still a lot of aspects that could be greatly improved but so far they have done well to address the countless problems from queues, bots, hacking, inflation, and other issues. Unlike most other games I have played, the developers and publishers of Archeage are fairly responsive to the player base.

It starts out as a decent open class system questing MMO, which goes on for about 40 levels (or ~200 hours). Suddenly, the game becomes about literally farming. Raise animals, raise plants, ship their products across the map to get money and experience. There is no end-game, aside from a handful of grindy dungeons for which parties are rare and the rewards are inconsistent.

Pirating in ArcheAge is clearly the best part of the experience, allowing for separate dynamic rolls like boarding party, captain, cannoneer, radar operator, small craft operator, harpoon operator, etc. Most of these rolls can be filled by a player of any level, which is a great way to get your more casual friends involved. Pirating when it goes well is a brilliant experience, but groups for doing so are usually cloistered, elitist, and the game's massive gear depravity/dependence virtually nullifies the importance of every roll except boarding party, captain, and harpooner.

Furthermore, trading has become significantly less frequent as the current (1.7) patch's focusing is aimed toward indefinite PvE farming. This was a huge waste of potential, where the game's most promising feature could have been expanded instead.

Otherwise, the game is chore-ish at best, requiring hours to just complete money making tasks, which are not fun in the slightest. Its something to do with friends or while listening to an audio book. Its like the MMO equivalent of Cookie Clicker, but it is not an idle game and it is not about min-maxing industry. The game's focus is on repeating similarly menial tasks ad infinitum until you don't want to get out of bed in the morning and face another few hours of grind.

Abuse of cosmetic item drop boxes for cash is rampant. Player purchase a box for real life dollars and each box has an extremly low drop rate, with best reported drops around 1 in 8 chance, dropping to such abysmal rates as 1 in 100. Most free to play games selling cosmetic items actually let you buy cosmetic items, not simply have a random chance of getting them. In this way, the publisher exploits the addictive nature of the MMO.

I would recommend this game for leveling up with a friend, its as good as any other MMO for that. Its something to do. But most other MMOs, even free ones, have some kind of meat past that point. ArcheAge offers practically no endgame despite being in development for years and having been released in US beta for about two years. This is not acceptable for a released MMO title which is making good revenue. The developers seem to have given up and reverted to a cell phone game style pay to pay model.

But it failed miserably. Instead of a refreshing new take on the MMO genre you get WoW 1.0 with a tiny dash of novelty that doesn't make up for how boring this game is.

From the beginning you are greeted by the same old way of doing things - Animated over-the-top intro, character creation with 4 races split up into 4 races and marginal appearance options (Don't let the amount of sliders fool you, you can basically just change the face of your character and pick from a dozen or so hairstyles) and then you're thrown into the world.

Instantly you will get the "same old" feeling as you start in a regular starting area full of copy/paste monsters, unvoiced standard NPC's and bad localisation. Conversation options? Not in this game. Active combat? Nu-uh! Quests apart from "Get this and come back" or "Kill 10 Y and come back"? Nope!

You stand in front of enemies unleashing your attacks, moving around just to strafe a bit. Your skillbar looks like a blast from the past and the general UI could as well be from the early 2000s.

On top of that, the game tries to present you with an open class system that is just a way to rename the classic triad into 120 different options. Yes, you can mix and match, but in the end you won't do anything more than in the early days of WoW, Guild Wars or any other MMO of that era.

Now comes the big thing we all looked forward to: The building system.
It's nothing. Star Wars galaxies did it better, and that's saying something.
There are some areas in the game where you can put premade houses. No individuality apart from interior objects. You can farm on your own land and move some basic town services there, but that's it. Everquest Landmark, Oort, Rust and a dozen others offer more individuality than this. If you want that typ of game, go download Neocron from 2002 (!!!).

On top of that, the game is F2P with a strong incentive to pay - Labor points. This system lets you use up "Labor points" for everything from looting a monster to harvesting resources. You regenerate those at a very slow pace in F2P (5 min for 5 labor) and a slightly more speedy pace in subscription mode (5 min for 10 labor). In payed mode, you regenerate while online.
    Let me rephrase that.
In F2P this game ENCOURAGES going AFK.
    Encourages! Going! AFK!
To do stuff like looting or harvesting!

Stay away from this game. If you want a good standard MMO experience, there are far better options out there.
You like the eastern style F2P? Lineage is superior.
You want to build stuff? Go check out Oort, Everquest next or any of the dozen other games like this.
You want a standard MMO? WoW basic is F2P now too.

While not required to play the game, land ownership is a huge part of gaining access to many gameplay features. Trion ignored numerous warnings during testing that scarceness of available land and exploitative land hording would be huge problems in release.

Obscene economy inflation, anemic loot drop rates and labor point generation, and demoralizing RNG failures at every turn are sucking the soul out of this game for the few diehard founders pack players that remain.

The only thing that will likely save this game is a total reboot as done for FFXIV. Square Enix had that kind of commitment and courage, does Trion? I doubt it. Trion will likely follow in the footsteps of Funcom soon to exit the MMORPG development field for good.

Also, there are many pay to win aspects in the game, like the APEX system. The game tends to dry very quick if you can't put a large amount of cash into the game.

What ultimately pushed me away from the game is the PvP. It is 100% gear based. Since the PvP affects many of the trade and other aspects, its really something that you can't get away from. You forced to spend all of your gold buying gear or risk being killed.

The game is fun at first something, but it quickly goes down hill. It is not a game worth playing in the long run.

It's basically Diablo 3 when it was tanking but with a far worse end game.

If there was a game of the century to avoid, folks, it's this one. Do not touch this one with a 10 ft pole. If you know people playing it (like I did), do everything in your power to get them to quit (like I did).

Just go look at the forums and you'll have all your answers. You can't post though, not until your level 15 of course. Of course as a new player, good luck getting any help then on the forums as the actual game is write off. The chat is filled with gold spam while a good chunk of the players are absolute losers.

The one positive thing to come out of all this though, the game is on track to die by Jan or Feb as predicted. Don't expect Trion to keep their servers up, not when they are losing money hand over fist due to their bad management.

Not that this is a surprise.. catering to those who spend money; however, Trions behavior (yet again) takes this to a whole new level.

Confirmed in-game (and out of game treatment) include:

    - Unbanning players for certain hacks whereas other players have been perma-banned for using the same hack. The player was unbanned as they were a friend of someone who spent thousands on the game. We know this because the player actually streamed their hack on twitch.

    - The player in question getting people's forum posts removed (that don't violate any rules) within minutes of complaining. Again we know this because the player bragged about it, and also bragging about "being close someone at Trion"

    - Same player getting accounts banned from the game within minutes because they simply had a problem with them. Yet again, the player bragging about it.

The player or user in question? "Sorcerer" Naming and shaming is the best way to remove the cancers from the game before it has any hopes of getting better.

Draw your own conclusions, but my advise, stay far away until the game gets a complete overhaul . This is about as poorly run game as you can get.

In a spam of almost 3 month, over 1000 hours, 50k gold I bought thru sites I was able to get the highest grade of weapons currently available thru crafting. Something that is almost impossible for anyone without patronage and the use of illegal sites that sells gold can get in that amount of time I got the best armor and 2H great axe, unless your ready to grind 3 months for only one piece of gear or weapon , don't brother, quest gear can be good and is aright but never comes close to crafted items, You get the feel if you aren't the monthly sub to need to pretty much only use certain classes although their endless amounts of classes unless you can top tier items which as I said is very taxing for f2p gamers, even with a sub for the game, you are climbing a mountain that XLgames only makes higher and higher for you to get what you want so you can freely and truly have the feeling that you can be anything you want to be in the game. Leveling is a joke. I hit the cap in less then a week. The grind begins when you hit max level with every skill you wish to pursue but it only turns to a chore by the fact that if you want to further develop a skill you need to send time attaining gold, problem is that the game is not even finished a third of the map wasn't done at launch, now part of it is up but only a part not all of it. Fishing is the only real way of making a profit without have to spend too much gold and time on packs and worrying about the economy which a first it sounds like a good idea have a changing economy based on the laws of supply and demand but some time is wasted on these things unless you get a merchant ship which, good luck getting without a army of people helping you, Or you buy the damn thing from someone that can. Even with all my gold this was one part that was even hard for me, but I got one in the end took 2 weeks of endless runs for the necessary items to get this damn thing. I was very happy when I did get all on my own though, only reason this game is not lower then a 4 for me is cause of the naval combat and ships that the devs actually took their time to make , sailing is fun and pirating the other continent is really fun, unless you have people from your continent pking other people of your faction which you can do in certain parts of the world that you will need to go thru in order to get most out of commerce.

To end this, the critics reviews are completely trash this is PAY TO WIN game don't let no one tell you otherwise, If you were hoping for a game where you can have fun farmvilling, you might be ok if you want to spend a little cash, but if you want to make a good PVX character forget it as I have mentioned all the p2w gamers have the land and AH and crafted items which are hard nonetheless with everything you buy to get so your stuck with a few range, sleath, aoe magic battle skills that are effective in battle, overall this game is not one to waste your time and money, this game is very incomplete and even if you play the Korean version you will see that the developers in that game which has been around longer then the NA version has the same core issues they just left the thing as is and only have added more stuff you can buy add-on for ships and new ships and a few world bosses but they don't seem to care about fixing anything. Only how they get a few more bucks off of you, so don't think they will fix the NA version either, in the story they quit at level 35, their is not conclusion at all they literally just quit the story not happens nothing at all , and the rest of the game is the same way. The only thing they managed to get right is the complex crafting systems which is the craziest I have seen in any mmo. This is Hyuna from the Callei server saying this is it for me , Black Desert is going in for closed beta, get yourself a Korean vpn so you can play it.

Right after becoming patron (paying a 15 usd fee monthly) changes everything. Yes, you can play it for free but people expects to have the same benefits than a patron. Patrons can have lands, sell things on the AH, get twice as much labor when being online (labor points are required for almost everything on this game) and get some labor when being offline.

Trion has been fighting back bots and exploiters since day 1 and I think thats the main reason why I would definitely keep playing this game (I played lineage 2 for about 6 years and that was a bot fest). You can't get rid of all bots but you can see how they try.

About most other complains... getting land is not impossible but people expects it to be easy and a right. All online competitive games require being good or the best at doing so. If you cant beat people grabbing land since day one you must buy it from them. It took me some days to understand how to get them (practicing with an 8x8 spot) and after that I grab lands 1/4 times.

People giving low scores due to getting killed on an open pvp world.... or not grabbing land on a non-instanced housing system should learn to spend less time whining and more time working to get things. Is like whining for not getting a job on real life due to people having all jobs you would like to have.

Ok, so first off let me start off with this: if you believe this is a casual game where becoming great at the game is an easy task or is something that you can accel at from the get-go, then this game might not be for you. HOWEVER, if you are the type of person that is really into the essence of MMO - Role Playing Games, then you have found yourself something that is quite tuned towards your taste.

Why do I say that? Because ArcheAge is a game that isn't all about combat, it isn't solely about being that unkillable person or going into dungeons killing mobs left and right. If anything, it excels at being a living, breathing world, a world more akin to that idea of a "virtual world". Here, economy has a major influence on everything, causing events ranging from large fishing expeditions of many vessels, to pirates and robbers preying on merchant ships and land-bound traders, to whole embargoes player-made preventing people from crossing regional borders. Not only that, but to experience the most out of this game, combat is not the only true "skill" you need. You need to be a good investor, knowing the market for goods and knowing when it's right to buy and sell, or be a good farmer, knowing exactly which crops sell for the most profit, or you can also be an illegal farm hunter, rewarding yourself with the riches of the land brought about by others bypassing the process, or perhaps even a pirate, where your riches are parallel to the amount of skill and patience between you and your fellow raiders.

Needless to say however, ArcheAge definitely has its flaws. Approaching it's second year of existence in Korea and not even a third of a year old in North America and Europe, ArcheAge is a still-growing, developing game made by, and let me put this in emphasis, "XL GAMES". Many reviewers out here like to blame Trion for any bad customer service, regardless of the fact that they are only the publisher of the game, not the developers. The only thing that Trion did was acquire the marketing license for western markets, so only if you have any monetary concerns should you be speaking to them about issues. Now, for the NA release, there are issues, some with latency, others with bots (which, in fact, have actually been reduced considerably) and in-game marketing issues, apart from land grabs and gold-purchase spam, which when you put everything together really don't amount to much unless you are "that" type of person who easily gets fed up with everything (which sadly many active gamers are :o). Now don't get me wrong, these problems do indeed hinder the game, but only to a certain extent, having really no major impact on the actual experience. *NOTE: recent server maintenance has caused long queue times, but remember that this is still a fresh game, and that having hordes of people trying to log on at the same time is inevitable.

Open-PVP regions, ranging from war-zones to the open ocean are what gives ArcheAge a highly dynamic feel. WIth members from both opposing factions able to attack you at a moments notice when it's not peacetime, you will always be wary and watch your back. Originally when I began questing in these areas, I was very frustrated as I kept dying all the time. However, when I played with my friend, we were able to go into 2v1's against max-leveled people and manage victory time and time again, and when we died, we somehow always got a laugh, because if you don't die to a mob, you don't really lose anything, save perhaps a minute or two of travel time and a tiny chink of repair costs for your armor (the durability of which is very high, so repairing is not that big of an issue, either.)

With a fun, dynamic class system in which you can switch skills any time and be max levelled in all trees and play up to three at a time, you can play as a healer, dps, and tank at the same time (though I do suggest specializing, hehe). I've run into my fair share of magical kiritos flailing their dual swords around and casting their magic only to be crowd controlled to oblivion whilst taking katanas or a nodachi to the back several times over. But besides that, the social aspect is beautiful. Often times you will see full raids of 50 players or multiple raids of hundreds all going for some objective, from world-bosses to sieges, warzones, and battles where literally hundreds of enemy mobs spawn, fighting them until we get overrun horribly, then counterattack and beat them, only to have crazy bosses spawn and wreck face all over again.

That being said, ArcheAge is a great game for those who are willing to take the time to really dig around all aspects, whether it be combat, crafting, literal "adventuring", or simple socializing. Sure it has its fair share of kinks and issues, but are things that are quite frankly easy to work around. Place any cynicism aside, let your inner curiosity take over, and have fun in this quite enjoyable MMORPG. ;)

But; in the zone I started in, there are huge numbers of high lvl players fighting right next to three of the npcs needed for the starting quests. In a starting city area, mind you. The one time I was able to overcome the lag enough to target anything in the mob it said I had targeted a 'lvl40 practice dummy'.

What this meant was after the 4 minute process of logging into the game I had to wait another 3 to 10 minutes for actual npc characters to load. Some of them became targetable before they appeared, but others didn't.

Any quest involving a cutscene in the towns just kicks you out of the game due to the serious amount of lag. Once you get past the 4 minute login again, there is a better chance you will get to see the cutscene again.

Of course, all this is moot anyway, since the game has been down for server maintenance for the last 16 hours.

All in all, it's not something I see spending money on.

The AA forums had a thread chronicling these problems--over thirty serious, debilitating problems--in just the first few months; and of course this thread was deleted. Innocent players are banned, while guilty players run impunity. Players are leaving in mass, and empty cities and trade runs have replaced the previously everyday server ques. Only the innocent and hopeful remain.

Sadly, the developers seem to have no intention on addressing these problems, but instead continue to intentionally add to the chaos, by introducing item after item in the cash shop, and thus invalidating previous hard work by dedicated players.

Like many others, I started out optimistic, then shifted to dealing and coping with the many many issues, and only too late accepted the truth. This game was a lie from the start, and the only smart move is to cut one's losses and move on as soon as you can.

I used the word stumbling, because it looks like they can't even pick themselves up once they have fallen, launch bugs were just the beginning with patron going out to F2P and P2P player which wasn't intended. They soon after rectified the issue by completely disabling patron, but it took 11 days until I received mine, but that's just the start of Trion's disaster. It doesn't get any better when we soon after Auroria release find out that Trion don't use private test servers to test patches before release and were all locked out for 14 hours of the latest expansion, those who disconnected 15 minutes after release were able to stay in granted they didn't disconnect. NA seen the worst of that as the issue was fixed by the time EU seen Auroria release, but many and I'd say over 80% missed out on participating in crucial castle grabbing, which has a great impact on Archeage, due to been unable to log-in for 10 hours while the server was left online which is by far the biggest disappointment in Trion and another 4 while servers went offline for a hot fix.

Moving onto the game play, Archeage isn't well known for its PvE content, it's lack of effort is abysmal, but it makes up for it in other areas like crafting which will keep you hooked for hours on end as it's a true grind, world boss as-well, being apart of the main guild in Enla and having Kraken on farm status was exciting it was solid!, until we came across another bug, a severe loot bug, which made the corpses of the defeated boss unable to loot and soon after disappear, it has happen on more occasions than not and resulted us in gaining nothing, a bug like this shouldn't exist at all as it's game breaking.

The PvP is entertaining granted you are well equipped as it's a mix of paper, scissors and rock mechanics, with are very much impacted by your gear as I have solo'd 4 people at once, it's fun personally, but come late game if you didn't grind the gear train then you can be assured you won't enjoy PvP. It's nice that they are focused highly on world PvP as it's usually missed on most modern day MMO's and in a game like this it beats doing one verse one arena as Archeage's main focus is built around world PvP, so you can say balance wasn't considered which once again in this game is fine; i'm not one for normalization.

What lets Archeage down though is it's rampant blatantly obvious rampant of bugs, hacks and exploits. There's a range from teleportation, no fall damage to gold generating hacks and APEX/ RNG chest exploits which have been around since launch and only become aware of by Trion with-in the last week, the economy is ruined beyond repair.

Fortunately this has been the only Trion published game I have played, but it will most definitely be the last. Having stated all the issues with Trion's/XL games Archeage you are made feeling like you're dealing with Infestation's SS Hammer point all over again and it makes you glad were put in the hands of known companies like EA/Ubisoft.

Leaving advice is it isn't worth your time or money.

    Graphics: 7/10
    Gameplay 4/10
    PvP: 9/10
    PvE 2/10
    Trion/XL games management 1/10

TL:DR Hacks, exploits, bugs, bad management all round from Trion and XL games, great PvP and abysmal PvE.

This game seemed interesting. You can combine different skill sets to make your own "class", etc. Lovely idea! The combat is supposed to be at least slightly skill-based in that you can dodge/avoid/move instead of the stand-and-push-buttons of MMOs of yesteryear. Great!

Didn't get to experience any of it. There is NO Y-AXIS INVERSION option. I repeat, you cannot invert the Y-axis of

Didn't get to experience any of it. There is NO Y-AXIS INVERSION option. I repeat, you cannot invert the Y-axis of your mouse, which is something that's been available on every game since mouses were invented, I thought.

There is a way to do it by downloading 3rd-party options or messing about with registries or something, but like hell if I'm going to bother. I didn't even finish the first quest. My experience with this game was four hours of downloading it, half an hour of installing it, five minutes in character creation, three minutes of going through the game options in minute detail, two minutes of idling while I googled where I could find the damn "invert mouse" option, and then quitting and writing this review.

You may realize it sooner or later (I did only after 2 months of playing) that this game is a maze meant for you to stay at the same place forever. No progression at all at the end-game due to the worst RNG possible.
You can only progress if you toss A LOT OF MONEY at it. And i'm saying something like +10.000,00 dollars (I just did the math).
Someday you will see that doing trade-runs

Someday you will see that doing trade-runs and farming gold is not fun, and the gold you make doesn't allows you to do nothing at all.
Don't fall for this cash-grab game.

Bad game, dated combat system, no endgame content at all, dungeons are simplistic and buged, no raids, arena 1x1 totaly unbalanced, 5x5 too, cant even call that a battlegound.

Typical asian grinding and RNG, dont waste your time.

Pay to the actual win. Welcome to the meta of unfair advantages in pvp, insane power scaling with absolutely no way to fight someone equal to you in terms of pure stats. I was one of those guys that wrecked everyone underneath him with his full craft, top tier gear and I tried once playing on an alt without any of that. Even cheating by giving my alt money from my main I had insane problems with making any progress whatsoever, and every day at level 50 felt like there was no game there. There just wasnt anything for me to do, or to progress even with a guild. The game is stomp people for fun at the end by waving your money in their face. Thats all you have to look forward to in this missed opportunity of a game. Expand

It doesn't have the longevity that an MMO should have. People will play until end game, but why do you want to play anymore of it? You have everything already because of how linear the questing is, and the only thing left for players to do is to build a house, but there is no reason for it anyway because it contains minimalistic interactivity. The combat is mediocre at best taking after pretty much every MMO nowadays just without the charm. The environments are dull, and the enemies are like something you would find out of Wizard 101, including their AI. Also, as is with many free to play games, there is an in game shop where you can buy currency to purchase in game items. In most games this would be really fair, take War Thunder for example, but in this game, you can have exclusive items TOP TIER items when you get to level 30, which is 20 levels below max. This game is not worth anyone's time unless they just want to get through the tedious questing to see why everyone says this game is great, because you won't find that answer while going through your questing phase, and you will most certainly never find that answer after end game. Best Pay2Win simulator you can ever get. When you get in the game forces you to PAY. You can't craft, you can't farm, you can't build a house without subscribe. Don't pay any penny on this game unless you are Chinese gold farmer.

What ArcheAge presents, past the horror of the chilling launch, is an open world full of opportunities and challenges as we have not seen for a too-long time demonstrating that the real MMORPG, those based on persistence and interaction, have not disappeared.

Don’t let your judgment be clouded by other people’s opinions influenced by terrible server problems they encountered when ArcheAge was launched. It’s a really good, beautiful game. [Dec 2014, p.76]

ArcheAge is one of the best free-to-play games to be released this year, with a near endless amount of content awaiting eager adventurers.
