The game is great! I'm having fun playing with my friends and guild members, it's perhaps the best MMO I've ever played (and I played a lot of MMO)... But God Damn that the team behind it does not know how to manage servers.

For god sake, they didn't learn any lessons from Official Western Release date. It still has the same queuing, crashing, disconnecting problems. At the moment I'm writing this, we are at D-Day+6 of Unchained release and they still can't put the money to increase servers' capacity.

Brace yourself to face 2, 3 sometime even 4 or 5 hours of queing to get in the game. I'm not even exagerating!

And this is without taking consideration that you may (WILL)) experience crashing and getting disconnected "By the Gods" (as the in-game message wants to say.

Not even Black Desert which is the most Graphically demanding MMO at the moment had half of ArcheAge Unchained problems in it's first week.

The game is not playable at the moment, it's like if Gamigo is expecting the Hype to worn out so they won't have to invest money on upgrading their servers. Well... with this behavior of them, they are right to think that. Players are going to get discouraged and will eventually leave the game after 2-3 weeks if the Team behind the game does not give a damn about the experience of their consummers.

You really, REALLY think that one will expect the new Dev team to look what was wrong with the game in 2013 and bring the correction to avoid repeating the same mistakes... Nothing of that happens with Unchained.

They did got rid of 95% of the P2W elements of the game, I can give them that. But the connectivity problem makes the game unplayable at this moment.

If you still want to purchase it, consider the game to be in an Alpha State!

This is one of the better mmos out on the market right now, and with the no pay to win it only gets better. I have never been in such a open world that lets you do so much!

This is exactly how I'd want a Final Fantasy MMO to be like - seamless large open world with various options of travel (e.g. Mount, Airship, Boat, Ship, etc.) in which the game doesn't feel restricted as zones with loading screens between each. Can't wait to peel away the layers to see what else this gem truly has to offer. I am a fan of both Tab-Targeting and Action Combat, so the Tab-system of the combat within Archeage doesn't bother me at all, especially considering that it's pretty fast paced. It's a game that can be played for story, player vs. player combat and most important, interactive environments & housing to roleplay upon with other fellow players (making guild-play more entertaining). It may not be the classic MMORPG I am yearning (looking at you Pantheon), but it's enough to satisfy my exploratory itch. - 7.5/10; A Fun Modern Open-World MMORPG, However, we need more players! Such a great game is getting overlooked. I have to wait hours just to get a dungeon going, which is sad. Please buy and play with us, we need you all!

(NOTE: If you have played less than 5 hours, don't review this game. Mixed reviews because of people who are not patient enough to wait for queue time, with no gameplay experience to truly determine if this is a good game or not. My queue times are around 10 minutes, but I end up playing for hours, so it isn't a problem at all; seems a lot are just impatient. If you are someone still deciding, if it weren't for impatience, the overall review would be around 75%-80% - around the level of quality I rate this game. No MMO is perfect upon release, so don't mind the bs that's flooding this page.)

    THE BEGINNER BASICS

ArcheAge Unchained is, like the original ArcheAge that released back in 2013, an open-world MMORPG with all the trimmings. Though there are some tweaks, additions, and deletions coming with the 6.0 update (which AAU is based on) the base gameplay in AAU will be familiar to anyone who has played ArcheAge in the past. It isn’t a complete carbon copy and a couple of big changes coming into the game are enhanced graphics and a new skill tree, the Swiftblade.

The graphics improvement is first noticed at the character creation screen. You have six races split among the games two factions to pick from. All races have both male and female models, with all six starting skill sets available to everyone. Once those choices are out of the way, there is a myriad of sliders to adjust as you individualize your characters look. The enhanced graphics make the time spent in the creator well worth it.

As you enter the game proper your first handful of levels will fly by as you work through the tutorial quests. The flexibility I had in pairing my race to my first skill set continues here. There are a total of twelve skill sets in ArcheAge Unchained, and by level 15 you must choose two more to complete your class. Not all classes are equal but your final decision isn’t set in stone, so feel free to experiment to find a combination of skill sets that suit your play-style. Many of the skills can be used to create combos, where skills further down your rotation are buffed by the skills used before them. No matter what your resulting class – there are over 200 unique choices – all weapons and armor are equippable. Each piece of gear comes with additional combat modifiers (clubs do additional damage against plate armor for example) so your choices once again add another layer to your character’s survivability and usefulness in combat.

Speaking of combat, we are looking at some old fashioned tab-targeting here. I personally find both action combat and tab-target have their strengths and weaknesses, so as long as AAU does it well tab-target combat isn’t a negative, but your own personal opinion on the matter may be different. I haven’t made it too far into AAU, but so far the targeting is working just fine. One nice touch is the animations as my dwarf attacks. He doesn’t just stand there flat-footed while swinging away. Instead, each swing of his sword has him jumping and twisting. It adds weight to the attacks, making them much closer to action combat movements than the typical tab target swipes.

    P-VP-VE

There is a lot of player versus player action for those looking for it but ArcheAge Unchained also offers a bevy of PvE as well. There is guild vs guild combat in Castle siege, and world bosses are in highly contested areas. Naval battles (yes, there are ships) are a constant theme and you can even go pirate to attack trade ships of both factions. And of course, you can just run around randomly killing other players. All low-level areas (lvl 30 and below) are safe zones, and even some of the contested zones will have times of peace. Dungeons can be found across all stages of character leveling, and there are even end game dungeons and raids. Some of the PvE content is located in contested areas, so avoiding PvP all together is pretty difficult.

Huge queue, game is mediocre and you can not return the game if you write the support based on the above points. Attention rip off.

It's completely open world and you can walk/swim/glide anywhere you want to in the game. Has an open market in game where you can sell items, and the land you obtain for farms and housing is actually out in the world. This game is like a breath of fresh air and there is nothing to spend real world dollars as of writing this review except cosmetics. Highly recommend you play this game. You get to level 30 in an hour or two then the grind to 55 starts. This is a game with a bit of pvp in it so if that is your thing this game is a 10, if not then this game is an 8 and still worth your time. Expand

Queue times, wait times for peace zones, exploits, constant PvP, no explanation how to play the game.

Progression is slow and difficult due to the above.

I'd rather play a game that waits for me, not the other way around.

Terrible game, terrible company. Pre-ordered this and couldn't play because queues were always over 4 hours in the first week, so I politely requested a refund and received an instant permanent account ban for my trouble.

Game was great until I was forced into PvP. PvP 100% sucks all the fun out of this game for me, Why? Well for one thing I have latency disadvantage playing in Australia. and for second; Unless you have mates to pvp with you'll 100% always be out numbered.

You cannot play this game solo in any way shape or form because you straight up cannot get anything meaningful done without friends.

I wouldn't say I wasted my money since I did get decent play time out of the game for $20AUD but at the same time... I now have no way to play so all my effort was for nothing.

TL:DR: the game could have been great but its implementation and management makes it awful. At the moment I do not recommend at all this game.

EDIT: I'm downgrading the score from 2 to 0: the support system in this game non-existent. It's been 4 weeks I've posted a tickets regarding a pack i bought with the game. So far no answers. Don't buy this game. Here is why imo: Pros: -

    Here is why imo:

    Pros:
    - The skill & class system: imo that's one of the great thing about this game. You have to choose 3 skillsets out of 12. To each combo (220 at total) corresponds a class.
Needless to say that with that many possible permutation, you will find a class that fits your playstyle.
Not all classes are truly viable as the differents roles (melee, physival ranged, magical ranges, healer, etc) are all reliant on specific skillsets (ex: Battlerage for melee, Archery for physical ranged) and these skillsets are reliant on 1 stat (ex: strength for melee and agility for physical ranged).
So for some combos you either have to mix stats and have an overall average output on all skills OR conentrate on 1 stat and have a great output on some skills and a poor one on others but fear not because each role still have plenty of perfectly viable classes to choose from.
    - Combat system: the skill combo system makes that the use of certain skills in succession will enhance your output by either buffing you or debuffing your target(s). As you have several combos to choose from, you can adapt on the fly if your previous combo streak got interrupted and some of your skills are still in CD.
    - Sandbox MMO: if you want to do more that fights, you can. You can build your own houses and farms, you can go in fishing expeditions or trading between continents, etc... lots of activities.

    Cons:
    - This is GrindFest Central. Forget about the usual MMO cycles of reaching max level and then grinding for the best (or close to) gear but then being able to relax until the next expack. Here it's a constant grind if you want to keep up with the rest. that also make it next to impossible to catch up with older players as they continue to advance as you try to catch up.
    - The gear improvement system: the gear improvement system is complicated as hell and NOT EXPLAINED AT ALL INGAME (or at least not until it's too late). Seriously: if you want to play this game, google everything you can to understand how it works.
    - The amount of possible alts: You cannot have more 6 alts per account AND only 2 alts slots are available at start, afterward you have buy expansion scrolls WHICH DOES NOT EXIST YET!
And when i say 6 possible alts, i do not mean 6 alts per server, i mean 6 alts ACROSS ALL SEVERS!
The other possibility of course is buying another account (you can have up to 3 account overall).
    - Only buy the base version of the game, do not spend any moeny the "improved packs" as 1 - the goodies from that pack will only be avaiable on 1 character, not account wide and 2 - the pack will automatically be bound to your 1st created character (even if the game is bought directly from Gamico website), which means that if you delete your 1st toon because you want to reroll, you lose the goodies.
    - If you delete a character, you have to wait a long time: 1 day at lvl 15, 1 WEEK (!!) at lvl 55. Why? if know, please tell me.
    - The suport system is non-existent. Personnally i have open a tickets 3 weeks ago and I still don't have any answers, most likely because their support team is way understaffed.

So all in all, its core is the one of a great game if you don't mind the constant grind, but Gamico's cheap implementation is really nullifuing everything as far as I'm concerned.
They did remove the P2W component that is prevailing in Archeage but seeing their cashgrab attitude mzkes me think it'll come back at some points.

There have been multiple exploits and they have failed to ban the players and/or unbanned players when they clearly exploited. We started as a three man unit with my friends, after playing the free version. We are really enjoying it, there are a lot of options in it, you can have a house, a lot of pets, you can fly, trade, of course you can also pvp. However, after each update it was difficult to start the game, once I had to restore an earlier version of windows because of this and it's kinda laggy.

We already pass the date and has been weeks. They are not able to transfer characters from fresh server to normal server. What is the result? We are locked in the empty server, not able to find party for any content and paying for nothing. No apology, no compensation. I was able to count only around 10 of the same people every day... so if you would like to pay for playing on a dead server this is the way.
